Since the first industrial revolutions, industries and consumers are following the linear economy model of the value creation that starts with the extraction of resources and end with waste disposal. The industries concerned only with resource utilization for conversion raw material in goods and making profit. In the present scenario of the environment and endless utilization of natural resources, the circular economy for the textile and apparel chain very important. This paper covers the present linear economy of the Ethiopian textile and apparel chain with the possibility of circular economy ecosystem in the chain on the basis of basic principles and important factors, which can affect the implementation of circular economy in the Ethiopian textile market. The focus on fundamentals of circular economy in the context of Ethiopian textile and apparel chain, and representation of present scenario of the process and various factors associated with the value chain from raw material to end user. The ultimate aim of circular economy is to maintain the quality and quantity of material, with minimum possible environmental impact and resource utilization to maintain the value of materials as high as possible, with minimum environmental impact. In the Ethiopian textile sector needs improvement in textile production process as well as effective use of poor quality raw material and sorting of non reusable resources. Ethiopia is contributing in US and Europe textile market and possible use of recycled textile material can heavily impact on the global textile waste problems.

This lecture evaluates achievements and challenges of the industrial development strategy of Ethiopia. During the study, the researcher undertook a literature review and collected primary data from government officials and secondary data from national reports. The discourse in the literature and findings of different empirical studies were reviewed and triangulated with the content of the interviews that were held with key informants. Three major obstacles must be overcome in order to make industrial policy in developing countries more successful: bad economic advice, development agencies and private consultancies, which say that they have identified the best practice and can provide you with a golden ticket to economic prosperity and the allure of FDI. The success of industrial policy in developing countries will be greatly enhanced by recognition of the wealth latent in their own national value chains and of their right and responsibility to limit foreign presence when it infringes on their capacity to build an economy, which serves their populations’ needs (Janoo, 2016:1). The findings of the study showed that the strategy has resulted in good growth of the industry sector, brought remarkable improvements, and contributed to the development of the national economy. Nevertheless, the study leads to the conclusion that the strategy is not effective in bringing structural change in the economy. Moreover, if structural change is desired in a manner that allows industry to take the lead in the economy, Ethiopia still needs to invest in a number of areas for the realization of this goal. Investments to increase the agricultural productivity, enhancing forward and back ward linkages of the manufacturing sector, tapping into the mining sector, linking research and development works and improving the overall business and investment climate are recommended to enhance the effectiveness of the Industrial development strategy. Credit and capital markets are vital to industrialisation. The lecture is based on Misgana Tekle’s 2015 AAU MPA thesis

The determinants of FDI include any host country’s situations that affect the inflow of FDI, like market size, the economic growth rate, real growth domestic product, infrastructure, natural resource, the political situation etc. In recent years, Ethiopia has started encouraging the inflow of FDI by improving the investment climate and by providing different incentive packages. The focus of this review is to identify the major determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ethiopia. The results show that variables like real growth domestic product, liberalization, exchange rate devaluation, and trade openness are significant and have a positive correlation with the inflow of FDI in Ethiopia. On the other hand, variables like inflation, poor infrastructure, the volatile and high lending interest rate havea significant and negative association with the inflow of foreign direct investment. Finally, the study recommends possible intervention of the government through infrastructure development and formulation of sound fiscal and monetary policies to control the negative impact of inflation, interest rate and other macro variables.

Disinformation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is a global phenomenon. It constitutes a threat to the values protected under the law, health in particular. The primary issue tackled in “Disinformation regarding COVID-19 in the light of priorities of the European Commission and the legal regulations binding and currently drafted in Poland” paper is an attempt at answering the following question: Is eliminating COVID-19 disinformation from public space possible in light of the priorities of the European Commission and the legal regulations already effective and currently being drafted in Poland? The analyses conducted under the paper lead to the conclusions that the provisions currently regulating freedom of expression theoretically constitute a basis for eliminating disinformation from public space but are, in practice, not very effective. This leads to the need for searching for other, more effective legal instruments in this field, both on the level of European Union law making and...
