How to Choose the Right Informative Topic

Half the battle of presenting a speech or writing an essay is choosing the right topic. Choosing a good informative speech topic or informative essay topic can keep your audience entertained, your reader interested, and your own work process more enjoyable. Here are a few tips to help you choose a topic:

Know your audience or reader: Your informative presentation ā€“ whether through speech or essay ā€“ should cover a subject not already well known to your audience, but still relevant to them. If you do choose a topic they’re familiar with, then present new and exciting information. Consider the age, knowledge level, and interests of your audience when preparing your informational speech or essay.

Consider your own interests: Think of your own passions and areas of expertise that you think people could benefit from learning more about. Choosing a topic you care about will help your speech or essay be better received. Your passion will keep them engaged and curious to learn more.

Consider length requirements : How much time are you allotted for your informative speech? What is the page requirement for your informative essay? You should be able to thoroughly cover the topic in the amount of time you are given. If you don’t think you have enough knowledge or personal interest to talk about illegal drug use among teens, saving money as a college student, or another informative topic for 20 minutes, you may need to consider a different subject.

The good news is that there are countless options available. Below are lists of informative topics for speeches and essays. Remember that, in order to choose the best informative topic for you, you need to consider your audience, your interests, and your time and length requirements. Then, customize the central idea to suit your situation.

Picking Your Topic

At first glance, an informative speech may seem like the simplest type of presentation . The basis of an informative speech is to introduce a topic to the audience and then describe or explain it . It sounds fairly straightforward, but special care must be given to selecting a topic or the entire speech may not be well received.

Informative speeches can easily become boring for an audience for several reasons. First, the speaker should be sure not to present a topic which is already well known, or the audience will quickly lose interest. The topic should be something the audience has never encountered, or at least include new and exciting information on a familiar topic. Speakers should remember, when preparing the speech, that their own level of interest will become apparent during delivery of the presentation. In other words, if the speaker is bored by the topic, the audience will feel bored as well.

Knowing the audience is a primary factor in choosing an informative speech topic. The speaker should consider the age, knowledge level, subculture, and other demographics of his listeners when preparing the speech. It is important to present information which is neither too elementary nor too difficult for the audience to comprehend. The chosen topic should reflect the interests of the audience, and should be intriguing to them without rehashing information they already know. For example, college students may be interested in a topic on alcohol use, but they are already very familiar with a topic like the dangers of drinking and driving. In this case the speaker might concentrate his topic on the health benefits of red wine. This way, he has chosen a topic which interests the audience, but is likely to present new information which will not bore his listeners.

Finally, speakers should consider time limits when choosing an informative speech topic. A topic should be covered thoroughly enough that the audience feels as if most of their questions on the topic have been answered. On the other hand, a tight time restriction may prevent the speaker from adequately covering a very intricate topic. When time is limited, a subject which requires lengthy explanation should be avoided. The audience should leave an informative speech feeling as if they’ve gained new insight on a topic. It is good if they are interested in doing their own research to learn more about the subject, but they should never leave the presentation feeling confused or unclear about what they have just heard.

Informative Speech Idea In 5 Steps

1. step one – make a list.

Make a short list of your personal interests and informative speech topic ideas. To help you determine your interests on an informative speech topic, think about your favorite objects, products, people, animals, events, places, processes, procedures, concepts, policies, theories, and so on. Answer these important questions:

  • Is there something you love to talk about, always have wanted to research?
  • What interests you very much, or do you like or love at first glance?
  • Do you have developed special skills in personal or professional life?
  • What interesting informative topics do you know a lot of or want to know more about?
  • What are some personal or professional experiences and skills in certain situations related to your favorite subjects?
  • Can you reveal hidden secrets, new perspectives or insights on some topics?

2. Step Two – Analyze Your Audience

Determine the interests and needs of your audience. What do they want to learn? Can you teach them on a subject you like?

3. Step Three – Check Your Interests

Review the short list of your interests and make a decision. Choose the informative speech topic that is also interesting to your audience. Take care of their interests, questions and needs.

4. Step Four – Research and Write

Research  just one new single aspect  of that informative speech idea. Look for valuable or amazing information that surprises your listeners. Fresh data, facts, intelligence, and advice will catch their attention immediately! To help you researching: look for new facts, figures, stories, statistics, surveys, personal experiences, professional experiences, quotations, comparisons and contrasts.

5. Step Five – Add Help Props

Demonstrate steps, stages, pros and cons, and remarkable effects by the use of public speaking software or other visual aids , that display the material you want them to be understood or remembered.

1. Speeches About Objects 2. Speeches About Processes 3. Speeches About Events 4. Speeches About Concepts

112 Persuasive Speech Topics That Are Actually Engaging

Whatā€™s covered:, how to pick an awesome persuasive speech topic, 112 engaging persuasive speech topics, tips for preparing your persuasive speech.

Writing a stellar persuasive speech requires a carefully crafted argument that will resonate with your audience to sway them to your side. This feat can be challenging to accomplish, but an engaging, thought-provoking speech topic is an excellent place to start.

When it comes time to select a topic for your persuasive speech, you may feel overwhelmed by all the options to choose fromā€”or your brain may be drawing a completely blank slate. If youā€™re having trouble thinking of the perfect topic, donā€™t worry. Weā€™re here to help!

In this post, weā€™re sharing how to choose the perfect persuasive speech topic and tips to prepare for your speech. Plus, youā€™ll find 112 persuasive speech topics that you can take directly from us or use as creative inspiration for your own ideas!

Choose Something Youā€™re Passionate About

Itā€™s much easier to write, research, and deliver a speech about a cause you care about. Even if itā€™s challenging to find a topic that completely sparks your interest, try to choose a topic that aligns with your passions.

However, keep in mind that not everyone has the same interests as you. Try to choose a general topic to grab the attention of the majority of your audience, but one thatā€™s specific enough to keep them engaged.

For example, suppose youā€™re giving a persuasive speech about book censorship. In that case, itā€™s probably too niche to talk about why ā€œTo Kill a Mockingbirdā€ shouldnā€™t be censored (even if itā€™s your favorite book), and itā€™s too broad to talk about media censorship in general.

Steer Clear of Cliches

Have you already heard a persuasive speech topic presented dozens of times? If so, itā€™s probably not an excellent choice for your speechā€”even if itā€™s an issue youā€™re incredibly passionate about.

Although polarizing topics like abortion and climate control are important to discuss, they arenā€™t great persuasive speech topics. Most people have already formed an opinion on these topics, which will either cause them to tune out or have a negative impression of your speech.

Instead, choose topics that are fresh, unique, and new. If your audience has never heard your idea presented before, they will be more open to your argument and engaged in your speech.

Have a Clear Side of Opposition

For a persuasive speech to be engaging, there must be a clear side of opposition. To help determine the arguability of your topic, ask yourself: ā€œIf I presented my viewpoint on this topic to a group of peers, would someone disagree with me?ā€ If the answer is yes, then youā€™ve chosen a great topic!

Now that weā€™ve laid the groundwork for what it takes to choose a great persuasive speech topic, here are over one hundred options for you to choose from.

Speech on Cruelty Towards Animals

Cruelty towards animals is a grave issue that demands your attention. Itā€™s about the harsh treatment that our innocent furry friends often face.

You might see it around you, perhaps without realizing what it truly means. Itā€™s time to understand and act against it.

1-minute Speech on Cruelty Towards Animals

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I stand before you today to talk about a problem that breaks my heart ā€“ cruelty towards animals.

Imagine if you were hurt by someone bigger and stronger than you. It would be scary, right? Thatā€™s how animals feel when people are cruel to them. They canā€™t speak or ask for help. They can only suffer in silence.

But we can help them! We can be their voice. We can stop others from being cruel to them. We can tell people that itā€™s wrong to hurt animals. We can show them that animals have feelings too.

Remember, every time we are kind to an animal, we make the world a better place. So letā€™s promise today to be kind to all animals. Letā€™s promise to stop cruelty towards animals. Because animals are our friends, and friends should never be hurt.

2-minute Speech on Cruelty Towards Animals

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, today Iā€™m here to talk about a topic that affects us all. Itā€™s about the way we treat our fellow creatures, the animals. You see, animals are not just creatures; they are our friends, our helpers, and an essential part of our world. But, sadly, not everyone treats them with the kindness they deserve.

First, letā€™s talk about what animal cruelty is. Itā€™s when a person hurts an animal or does not care for an animalā€™s needs, like food, water, shelter, and love. Itā€™s not just hitting an animal; itā€™s also leaving a pet without food or water or keeping it in a place where it canā€™t move around. Can you imagine being stuck in a tiny space with no food or water? Itā€™s not a nice thought, is it?

Now, you might wonder, why should we care? Well, animals, like us, can feel pain. They can feel happy or sad, just like we do. When we hurt them, they feel it, and itā€™s not fair. They have as much right to live a happy life as we do. After all, they were here on this Earth long before we were.

So, what can we do to stop animal cruelty? Itā€™s simple. We can start by treating animals with kindness. If you have a pet, make sure it has food, water, and a safe place to live. If you see an animal in pain, try to help it or tell an adult who can. And remember, animals are not toys. They are living beings who deserve respect.

We can also teach others about animal cruelty. Tell your friends, your family, and your teachers. The more people know, the more they can help. And if you see someone being mean to an animal, donā€™t be afraid to speak up. Itā€™s not always easy, but itā€™s the right thing to do.

Trump rambles, slurs his way through Elon Musk interview. It was an unmitigated disaster.

For a fascism-curious billionaire who loves cuddling up to right-wing loons, Elon Musk sure is good at making right-wing politicians look stupid.

animal speech topic

Former President Donald Trump had loudly trumpeted a planned Monday night interview with Musk that would stream on X. But much like the disastrous X-platformed launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantisā€™ presidential campaign , the Musk/Trump interview failed to launch , leaving social media users laughing at the collective incompetence.

Since Vice President Kamala Harris rose to the top of the Democratic presidential ticket last month, Trumpā€™s reelection campaign has been flailing . His childish attacks against her arenā€™t working. His racist comments about her mixed-race heritage have repelled all but his most loyal supporters. His vice presidential pick, JD Vance, becomes less likable every time he speaks .

So his answer, weirdly, was to sit down with Musk and talk to what would undoubtedly be a very online audience that doesnā€™t represent the broader electorate. Had the conversation gone off without a hitch, it still would have been odd and largely useless for Trumpā€™s effort to halt Harrisā€™ momentum.

Trump's interview with Elon Musk was an unmitigated disaster

But the online interview went off (the rails) with a multitude of hitches. X users erupted with either frustration or laughter as the planned start time passed, and nothing could be accessed. It took more than 40 minutes before the interview could start and be heard by anyone. It was amateur hour, the last thing a campaign struggling to project competence needed.

In May 2023, when DeSantis' presidential campaign premiered with a glitch-tastic interview with Musk on what was then called Twitter, Trump mocked the debacle , writing on social media: ā€œWow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!ā€

On behalf of DeSantis, allow me to say this: HAH!

Forget the glitches, Trump's X interview got worse when he started talking

Of course, things didnā€™t get better for Trump once the interview was able to proceed.Ā

Trump says AI did it: Trump blames Harris' crowds on AI, so let's all assume everything we don't like is fake!

He was rambling, babbling on about crowd sizes and immigration and President Joe Biden and whatever else seemed to pass through his mind. He was also badly slurring his words , raising questions about his health, and doing nothing to knock down rising concerns about his age and well-being.

He sounded like a disoriented, racist Daffy Duck.

Elon Musk is no Barbara Walters ā€“ his interview skills stink

Musk, meanwhile, has the interviewing skills of a stoned introvert. He did little but cheerlead Trump and agree with every bizarro thing that fell out of his mouth, while occasionally going on the kind of odd right-wing tangents youā€™d expect from a man too rich to ever be told to pipe down.

Iā€™m not going to quote anything Trump said in the interview because it was either too stupid to merit transcription or a mere repetition of the nonsense he spouts at every rally he holds.

Harris can beat Trump: I was wrong about Kamala Harris. And that's a huge problem for Donald Trump

A big part of Trumpā€™s problem right now is he has become almost unbearably boring. Build a wall. Drill, baby, drill. Marxist, socialist something-something. Harris only recently became Black. Blah, blah, blah.

Musk gave Trump the same gift he gave Ron DeSantis. Whomp whomp.

So for Trump, sitting down with a rich weirdo few people like and slurring his way through an interview that failed to launch was, in the words of one Donald J. Trump, ā€œa DISASTER!ā€

Musk, with his social-media ineptness and unmerited sense of self-importance, made DeSantis look like a fool. And now heā€™s done the same to Trump.

Heck, if Musk keeps this up, I might start to like him.

Trump Says Some Migrants Are ā€˜Not Peopleā€™ and Predicts a ā€˜Blood Bathā€™ if He Loses

In a caustic and discursive speech in Ohio, former President Donald J. Trump once again doubled down on a doomsday vision of the United States.

Donald Trump, seen from behind and at a distance, speaks to a large crowd from behind a lectern.

Former President Donald J. Trump , at an event on Saturday ostensibly meant to boost his preferred candidate in Ohioā€™s Republican Senate primary race, gave a freewheeling speech in which he used dehumanizing language to describe immigrants, maintained a steady stream of insults and vulgarities and predicted that the United States would never have another election if he did not win in November.

With his general-election matchup against President Biden in clear view, Mr. Trump once more doubled down on the doomsday vision of the country that has animated his third presidential campaign and energized his base during the Republican primary.

The dark view resurfaced throughout his speech. While discussing the U.S. economy and its auto industry, Mr. Trump promised to place tariffs on cars manufactured abroad if he won in November. He added: ā€œNow, if I donā€™t get elected, itā€™s going to be a blood bath for the whole ā€” thatā€™s going to be the least of it. Itā€™s going to be a blood bath for the country.ā€

For nearly 90 minutes outside the Dayton International Airport in Vandalia, Ohio, Mr. Trump delivered a discursive speech, replete with attacks and caustic rhetoric. He noted several times that he was having difficulty reading the teleprompter.

The former president opened his speech by praising the people serving sentences in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Mr. Trump, who faces criminal charges tied to his efforts to overturn his election loss, called them ā€œhostagesā€ and ā€œunbelievable patriots,ā€ commended their spirit and vowed to help them if elected in November. He also repeated his false claims that the 2020 election was stolen, which have been discredited by a mountain of evidence .

If he did not win this yearā€™s presidential election, Mr. Trump said, ā€œI donā€™t think youā€™re going to have another election, or certainly not an election thatā€™s meaningful.ā€
