2. Why is the habit of reading declining?

The habit of reading is gradually declining. The advent of the internet is often described as the reason behind the changing habits of reading. Nowadays, most people go to the internet for information rather than reading books. The deterioration in reading habits can also lead to a decline in the world’s cultural development. Hence, people should give reading the importance it deserves. Accordingly, people are becoming lazier and not wanting to read as they find it a waste of time. The students nowadays find newspapers to be boring and they perceive mobile applications of new channels to be the ultimate source of news information.

3. What are the difficulties you will face if you don’t read?

If a student is unwilling to read and speak English or any other languages they intend to learn, then he or she will never be able to be creative and innovative in their approach to any other aspect of life. Reading opens up with the mind of the people and leads them to understand the concept of vocabulary and innovation. A lot of students struggle with their vocabulary and grammar. All of this is just done to help the students improve their speaking ability and experience. If you don't read then you won't be able to write good English literature answers in school as you won't be able to manage the content well.

Good Habits Essay – 1

Introduction:.

A habit is something that you often do and almost without thinking, especially something that is hard to stop doing. The easier it is to fall for bad habits, the harder it is to develop good ones.

Way back in 1735, Benjamin Franklin, in his book (Poor Richard’s Almanac), wrote a very beautiful quote- “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” This quote is one of the finest examples of a good habit. Waking up early provides freshness to the body and peace to the mind.

However, the current scenario is quite the opposite. People stay up late at night and wake up even later. This reduces the efficiency of the mind and body, and as a result, the person becomes lethargic.

All of us have habits, be it good or bad. Depending on person to person, it can be classified into two categories: Good habits and bad habits. These habits are developed from different sources. Most of the habits that we have has been inculcated in early age itself. Drinking water, taking breakfast, lunch, and dinner, taking naps and sleeping at nights are habits, based on instinct.

We have no control over thirst, hunger, and sleep. We search for water when we are thirsty, look for food when hungry, and lie down when sleepy. These are, therefore, Inborn habits. Other than this, there are many man-made habits like brushing your teeth, taking a bath, wearing clothes, combing your hair, cleaning your room, etc. which help a man to look neat and clean. Good habits help us in leading a better life.

List of various good habits:

There are various good habits which must be followed in life. Some of them are

  • Punctuality

1. Disciplined Daily Schedule

Following a disciplined daily schedule or routine helps in leading a healthy and a life full of contentment. For example: Brushing teeth, eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner on time, sleeping at a time are the little things that mark a great difference. One must drink lots of water and maintain a health regimen such as walking or jogging in the evening or morning.

A proper schedule keeps the body fit, and a healthy body is a key to a healthy mind. Apart from a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen, sleep is very crucial for us. So, we must ensure that we give our body a good eight to ten hours of sleep minimum every night.

Going to sleep early can relieve tension from the mind and help the body to wake up fresh and alert the next morning to face a new day.

2. Punctuality, Promptness, and Regularity

The second good habit necessary for success in life is punctuality, which is essential in every sphere of life. Punctuality is an etiquette that encourages a person to perform a task on time. In simple words, a punctual person is someone who knows the true value of time. It helps in building the integrity of a person. A punctual person can be described as a person who is always on time, in arrival and departure, and in meeting deadlines for tasks and assignments.

Regularity in the study, work, and schedules make people look up to the person as a credible and sincere worker who will deliver the work on time. It does not just help in earning respect but also opens doors for numerous opportunities.

3. Honesty and Truthfulness

Honesty is a very important good habit in everyone’s life. It shapes the character of a human being. Honesty can be developed in many ways. Sometimes by saying the truth, by admitting to faults, by accepting and rectifying mistakes when corrected, by refraining from gossip, slander, and misrepresentation of facts, and sometimes by self-analysis and self-improvement.

It creates a reputation. It not just increases our respect in the eyes of others but also in our own. It entrusts credibility to our efforts and creates respect for our beliefs. Honesty brings trust, and trust brings happiness.

Honesty creates a stress-free environment. It keeps our mind relaxed and conscience clear. Telling lies and indulging in dishonest activities make it far difficult for our minds to relax. A dishonest person is always bothered about something or the other. He always feels tensed and anxious if someone or the other will get to know about his lies.

Honest people are daring, polite, and confident. They can easily face any challenges of life, whereas dishonest people are cowardice, unsure, and hesitant.

4. Kindness

One of the most beautiful habits is kindness. Our purpose in living in a society is to help our fellow citizens. In order to lead a successful life, goodness of heart must be imbibed within.

Goodness and kindness are two branches of the same tree. It is very essential for human beings to be kind, generous, helpful, and friendly to others. We should always spread our hands in order to help those in need. It provides fulfillment. People with a good kind heart can be truly successful in life. Philanthropy, kindness, and help must be done selflessly without the expectation of any reward in return.

5. Hard work and Perseverance

We all must have heard that hard work is the key to success. In today’s world, there is huge competition in every aspect of life. One must be sincere and dedicated to his work in order to succeed in life. Hard-work is incomplete without Perseverance. The goal should be to excel but without harming others and also to put in maximum effort in work given to bring the best output and results. One must work hard and never give up because today or tomorrow, it pays off positively.

Importance of Good habit:

A man with good habits plays an important role in the development of the nation. He is an asset. If we once allow a bad habit to grow, it becomes a part of our nature. Accordingly, we should form good habits such as reading, studying, morning walking, waking up early, eating healthy foods, etc. Moreover, we should stay away from bad habits such as smoking, procrastination, etc. With time, habits change into character. Our impression on someone is the reflection of our actions. We should try to develop a habit of positive thinking to be tension free.

Conclusion:

Good habits are the building blocks of a better world. Without good habits, life is meaningless. It leads to self-development and that of society. It is human nature that we tend to have bad influences much more easily than good ones. If we inculcate good habits in our children from the very beginning, then only they will be able to differentiate between good ones and bad ones. Kindness, hard work, honesty, and punctuality are some of the most essential good habits every person should have. It brings a sense of contentment, happiness, prosperity, and success to the person. We, as a person, must inculcate these habits in our child, which will help in building a better society, surroundings, nation, and eventually, a better world.

Good Habits Essay – 2

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. ”

These are the famous opening lines of a very popular childhood rhyme that most of us have grown up hearing or singing or reading. Yet these lines are not merely jingles. They are very valuable as they tell us about the importance of good habits.

Good habits are the keystone of success. Without good habits a person cannot mentally, morally or physically develop. Good habits shape our lives and our actions. They instil discipline and order into our lives and guide us on the path of success and achievements.

Various Good Habits

Some key good habits which must be followed in life are:  discipline, punctuality, honesty, industriousness, and kindness to others.

Proper and Disciplined Daily Schedule

Maintaining an orderly schedule in our daily lives is a very good and essential habit. One must eat healthy food at regular intervals in the day in the form of three to four meals where possible, drink lots of water and maintain a health regimen such as walking or jogging or running outdoors.

This schedule will keep the body fit and a healthy body is the key to a healthy mind as it ensures a healthy life. Apart from a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen, sleep is very essential for the body and thus we must ensure that we get a good eight to ten hours of sleep minimum every night.

Going to sleep early can relax the mind and body and enable us to wake up fresh and alert the next morning to face a new day.

Punctuality, Promptness and Regularity

The next good habit necessary for success in life is punctuality. This is essential in every sphere of life. It means maintaining time. A punctual person is always on time, in arrival and departure and in meeting deadlines for tasks and assignments.

Punctuality instills respect in others because it evokes admiration and bears testimony to the persons’ genuine interest and sincerity in the work. Regularity in study, work and schedules makes people look up to the person as a reliable and sincere worker who will deliver the goods on time.

It increases professional and personal respect. Thus more and more opportunities to shine can come our way.

Honesty and Truthfulness

Honesty is an indispensable good habit in everyone’s life because it is the shaping factor of human being’s character. Honesty can be instilled in many ways— by saying the truth, by admitting to faults, by accepting and rectifying mistakes when corrected, by refraining from gossip, slander and misrepresentation of facts, by self-analysis and self-improvement. Honesty increases our respect in the eyes of others.

It creates goodwill and enhances our reputation. It lends credibility to our actions and creates respect for our opinions.

On the personal level it keeps our minds stress-free and our conscience clear because telling lies and indulging in dishonest actions and practices make it for difficult for our minds to relax since we are always bothered about somebody coming to know the truth behind our subterfuge.

Honest people are thus daring, courageous and confident. They can easily face the challenges of life.

Hard work and Perseverance

In today’s world of cut-throat competition in every aspect of life, one must be sincere and hard working to succeed in life. Hard work is incomplete without perseverance. One must work hard to the best of his or her ability and also work with sincerity and dedication.

The aim must be to excel, to show that one is better than the rest and also to put in maximum effort in the work given for best output and results.

Whether it is in studies or jobs, industriousness and sincerity is the best habit a person can cultivate. It pays off positively in the long run.

Kindness and Philanthropy

The purpose of living in a society is to help your fellow-citizen. In all religious texts also the moral advice given is “Love and help your neighbour and fellow man.” In order to be successful in life, goodness of heart must be imbibed within.

Goodness and kindness go hand in hand. Thus it is very essential for human beings to be kind, charitable, helpful and friendly to others. Whether it is a stray homeless hungry animal or a poor sick and ailing person, we must have an ingrained habit of being kind and helpful to those in needs.

Only people with a good kind heart can be truly successful in life. Charity, kindness and help must be done selflessly without the expectation of any reward in return. Only then are we blessed by God.

God habits are very important in life. They are essential for success, peace of mind and for building a better society. Our children will learn good habits from us and make the world a better place in the future.

If we look at the scenario today, we see how the fast-food market is increasing at a rapid rate. With the onset of food delivery apps and more, people now like having junk food more. In addition, junk food is also tastier and easier to prepare.

However, just to satisfy our taste buds we are risking our health. You may feel more satisfied after having junk food but that is just the feeling of fullness and nothing else. Consumption of junk food leads to poor concentration. Moreover, you may also get digestive problems as junk food does not have fiber which helps indigestion.

Essay On Food In 10 Lines, Short and Long Paragraphs For Children

Priyadarshika

Key Points To Remember When Writing An Essay On Food For Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on food for kids, a paragraph on food for children, short essay on food in english for kids, long essay on importance of food for children, what will your child learn from the essay on food.

Food is the fuel that keeps us running throughout the day, and it also supports the body’s metabolic process and ensures we remain healthy. Children need to understand the importance of food to build healthy eating habits in the long term. They also need to learn that the body needs energy from healthy food to conduct day-to-day activities. Writing an essay on food in English is a great way to get kids acquainted with important information on the different food categories and their role in our diets. In this blog, we have put together a few examples of essays on food for classes 1, 2 & 3 that are easy to understand and informative.

Food is critical for the survival of every living being on earth. Here are some important to keep in mind when writing a food essay:

  • Long essays on foods require the students to memorise important facts about food groups and nutrients.
  • Always add an introductory and concluding paragraph for a long format.
  • An essay should reflect a healthy attitude towards food and eating.

An essay about food for class 1 and class 2 can be short and focus on simple ideas children have about food. Here is an example of a few lines on food:

  • Food is the substance we eat every day for energy and strength.
  • There are many different types of food, such as fruits, vegetables, rice, and pasta.
  • We need to eat a variety of foods to get all the essential nutrients the body needs.
  • Not eating a healthy and balanced diet leads to weakness and deficiency diseases.
  • All children love eating delicious food, although sometimes it may not be beneficial.
  • We must eat more natural foods and less junk to maintain good health.
  • Food is divided into categories such as grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
  • Different food category gives different types of nutrition the body needs.
  • Junk food is tasty, but it is also harmful to our health.
  • To stay healthy and fit, we must consume a balanced diet and little junk.

Younger kids are expected to write small paragraphs initially on the given topic for a better understanding of the subject. Here is an example of a short paragraph about food:

Food is one of the most basic needs for all human beings, apart from clothes and shelter. It is necessary to give us the energy to function and maintain the bodily process that keeps us alive. To stay healthy, eating various foods that provide essential nutrition for the body is crucial. The body needs carbohydrates, proteins, fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to maintain all the organs functioning well. Excess junk deprives us of healthy nutrition, leading to obesity and deficiency diseases. The best diet balances different types of food and minimises junk.

A short essay should be easy to write once they have mastered paragraph essays. Here’s an essay on food for classes 1, 2 and 3:

Food is like breathing; we take it for granted as we get to eat a meal three times a day and snacks in between. But, the reality is that this is one of the basic necessities for which we work really hard every day. We often go for the food we find tasty and pleasing without considering its nutritional content. The main goal of eating food is to provide the body with all the essential nutrients it needs to function correctly. Therefore we must eat a balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Different food groups contain varying levels of essential nutrients, so eating various foods is crucial to get all the nutrients. Our diets should have grains for carbohydrates, seeds, pulses, and meats for protein, fruits, and vegetables for vitamins, minerals, and fibres, and dairy for important fats and protein. A balanced diet is a way to lead a healthy and happy life.

A long essay for class 3 is a bit more advanced as it involves balancing facts with a good narrative. Here is an example of an extended food essay:

Food constitutes different types of stuff we eat that are sourced from plants and animals. Humans are omnivores and consume a broad range of food items sourced from agricultural fields, forests, oceans, and farms. Food provides the energy to a person for proper physical and mental functioning, and every nutrient helps build and repair the body.

The food we eat can be broadly categorised as fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. These categories of foods contain all the nutrients the body needs. For example, grains are a source of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, while meats are a great source of protein and micronutrients. It is important to consume all the food categories as part of a balanced diet to maintain good health and growth.

Carbohydrates in food give us the energy that is needed to perform everyday activities. Proteins are essential for the growth and repair of the body after injury or exercise. Fats are a dense source of energy and a medium for absorbing several fat-soluble nutrients. Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients needed for all kinds of cellular processes. It is believed that a good diet consists of high protein, fats, and a good amount of carbohydrates, while fruits and vegetables give vitamins and minerals.

In today’s time, people consume plenty of fast food and junk food which consists of high sugar, high sodium, and trans fats, which are all unhealthy. Eating excess junk food makes people feel full and avoid eating other nutritious foods that the body requires. Eating junk food is harmful as it leads to obesity and other health problems in the long run.

Ideally, people should eat healthy foods from a wide source and avoid junk altogether. But since fast food is part of our modern world, it can be consumed in low quantities but not at the expense of healthy foods.

Why Is Food Important??

Here are some of the reasons food is important:

  • Gives Energy: The average adult needs around 2000 calories a day. Food groups such as carbohydrates and fats are broken down by the body to produce energy.
  • Promotes Growth: Proteins are needed for the body to build new cells and tissue, which promotes growth.
  • Builds Immunity: Vitamin C and other nutrients are necessary to defend the body against the attack of diseases.
  • Builds Bones and Muscles: In adults, proteins and calcium help strengthen bones and balances muscles density.
  • Maintaining Body Weight: A balanced diet is needed to maintain a healthy and functioning body, and it is crucial to maintain a balanced body-height-weight ratio.

Election Live Updates: Trump Continues Personal Attacks Against Harris

At a rally in Pennsylvania intended to focus on his economic policy initiatives, Donald Trump ignored his advisers and veered again into personal insults of his opponent.

Donald Trump stands in a corridor in front of an American flag.

Here’s the latest on the presidential race.

Former President Donald J. Trump campaigned in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Saturday, in a rally meant to be framed around economic policy, a day after Vice President Kamala Harris laid out her own economic vision .

Mr. Trump has cast the election as a referendum on the economic stewardship of Ms. Harris and President Biden. But while polls show that many voters see Mr. Trump as better able to address inflation, he has passed up opportunities to discuss the issue in depth and instead veered into personal attacks and tangents.

That tendency was on display in Pennsylvania, where Mr. Trump suggested without evidence that Ms. Harris had orchestrated Mr. Biden’s exit from the race and that the president “hates” the vice president.

The event offered a test of whether Mr. Trump can recalibrate his approach to taking on Ms. Harris, whose running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, held a rally on Saturday in La Vista, Neb., a suburb of Omaha. Nebraska is reliably Republican but awards an electoral vote to the top vote-getter in each congressional district, and Omaha’s district has leaned Democratic in recent polling.

Both campaigns are particularly focused on Pennsylvania, a swing state that could decide the election. Ms. Harris, Mr. Walz and their spouses will embark on a bus tour of the western part of the state on Sunday, in part to champion the Biden administration’s efforts to reduce inflation. On Monday, Mr. Trump will rally in York, Pa., while his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, will speak at a manufacturing facility in Philadelphia.

Here’s what else to know:

Democratic convention: Delegates and party leaders will fete Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz as the Democratic Party’s nominees at their convention beginning Monday in Chicago. At their events the same day, Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance will try to maintain their share of the spotlight when much attention will be on Mr. Biden’s speech at the convention, the beginning of his goodbye to politics .

Swing states back in play: Four diverse swing states that seemed to be drifting toward Mr. Trump when Mr. Biden was in the race are now in play for Democrats, according to polling from The New York Times and Siena College . In Arizona, Ms. Harris has established a four-percentage-point lead on Mr. Trump, the surveys found, while she leads by two points in North Carolina; Mr. Trump has a one-point lead in Nevada and a four-point lead in Georgia. Overall, the two candidates are tied across the four states, according to the polling.

Fall ad buy: The Harris campaign said it was reserving $370 million in advertising to begin after Labor Day and run through Election Day. Only $170 million had been reserved for television, according to the campaign, reflecting the desire to reach voters on their devices as television audiences shrink. A group backed by progressive donors is also investing about $15 million into radio advertisements primarily aimed at Black and Hispanic voters in swing states. It may be the largest radio ad campaign of this cycle so far.

Trump on medals: Mr. Trump said that the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a civilian award, was “much better” than the Medal of Honor, the military’s highest honor for service members. Democrats were quick to criticize his comments, arguing that he exhibited a pattern of disdaining service members.

A Trump-Harris debate: Mr. Trump pulled in Tulsi Gabbard , a former Democrat who once eviscerated Ms. Harris on a debate stage, to help him prepare for the face-off, which is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern time on Sept. 10. The vice president participated in a mock presidential debate at Howard University on Monday and at least one other since then, according to several people briefed on her preparations. Here’s how to watch the debate that ABC is hosting.

Reporting from San Francisco and Sacramento

Willie Brown to Donald Trump: Mention my name again and get sued.

Willie Brown, the former mayor of San Francisco, had a message for former President Donald J. Trump on Saturday afternoon: Keep my name out of your mouth or get sued.

He stood with his longtime lawyer, Joe Cotchett, on a sidewalk in downtown San Francisco, outside John’s Grill, the Saturday spot on Mr. Brown’s lunchtime rotation, and told reporters that he would sue Mr. Trump for slander and defamation if he repeated his concocted helicopter story one more time.

“He’s never brought a lawsuit in his life,” Mr. Cotchett said of Mr. Brown. “But you know who’s pushing him to it? A guy by the name of Trump.”

Mr. Trump and Mr. Brown have been verbally sparring since Mr. Trump falsely claimed at a news conference on Aug. 8 at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida that he had once nearly died in a helicopter ride with Mr. Brown .

Mr. Trump also said that Mr. Brown, who dated Vice President Kamala Harris in 1994 and 1995, said “terrible things” about Ms. Harris just before they almost plummeted to their deaths.

“He was not a fan of hers very much, at that point,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Brown promptly called the tale a lie — saying he had never ridden in a helicopter with Mr. Trump and had never told him disparaging things about Ms. Harris. In fact, he repeatedly told reporters that he respected her and desperately hoped that she would beat the man with whom he had never ridden in a helicopter.

Mr. Trump repeated his claims on his social media site, Truth Social, and threatened to sue The New York Times for reporting that the helicopter story was made up. “Now Willie Brown doesn’t remember?” Trump wrote.

That’s when Nate Holden, a former Los Angeles city councilman and state senator, said he had taken a rocky helicopter ride with Mr. Trump in 1990 and speculated that the former president might have confused him with Mr. Brown. Both California politicians are Black.

Mr. Trump has not spoken about the helicopter incident since Mr. Holden came forward. But Mr. Brown and Mr. Cotchett said they wanted to make sure that he stayed quiet.

Asked whether he wanted an apology from Mr. Trump, Mr. Brown said he would rather not hear from him at all.

“No, I don’t want his apology,” Mr. Brown said. “I don’t want him to mention my name.”

When asked to comment, a spokesman for Mr. Trump pointed to the former president’s threat to sue The Times but did not address what Mr. Brown said.

Mr. Holden on Saturday applauded Mr. Brown’s legal threat.

“If he’s propagating a lie, he should be held accountable,” Mr. Holden said of Mr. Trump in a telephone interview on Saturday from his home in Los Angeles. “I’m 95 years old, and Willie is 90, and he made the assumption we wouldn’t be here anymore, and nobody would challenge it. Well, we’re alive and well.”

Reporting from La Vista, Neb.

Tim Walz plays up his Nebraska roots at rally near Omaha.

Cinnamon rolls and chili. The Yale of the Midwest. A runza.

Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, back home in Nebraska on Saturday, delivered his usual appeals to joy and freedom, along with some jabs at former President Donald J. Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio. But this time, he added a flex of his Nebraska roots and his knowledge of the state’s culture.

Mr. Walz spoke of growing up in the tiny village of Butte, graduating from Chadron State College — “the Yale of the Midwest,” he said to laughs — and serving in the state’s Army National Guard, in which he enlisted at 17. He was introduced by one of his former high school students in the state and had former Butte classmates in the audience.

“We have a slogan here — Nebraska, it is not for everyone,” he told a boisterous audience at a theater in La Vista, Neb., a suburb of Omaha. “Well, it certainly ain’t for Donald Trump, I’ll tell you that much.”

The stop in his home state offered Mr. Walz another chance to reach rural, working-class and moderate voters, as he and Vice President Kamala Harris cast themselves as fighters for the middle class.

Nebraska is one of two states (along with Maine) that award an electoral vote to the winner of each congressional district. A presidential candidate can lose the state and still earn electoral votes there.

Nebraska is solidly Republican, but its Second District, which encompasses Omaha and is known as Nebraska’s blue dot, is a swing region that voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and Joseph R. Biden Jr. in 2020. Mr. Biden won with 56.4 percent of the vote .

In the spring, Nebraska Republicans, under pressure from Mr. Trump; the state’s governor, Jim Pillen; and conservative activists, renewed an effort to move to a “winner-take-all” system in presidential elections. State legislators overwhelmingly voted against the proposal.

Mr. Vance is expected at a fund-raiser in Omaha this month.

“It is not just symbolic,” Pete Festersen, the president of the Omaha City Council, said of Mr. Walz’s stop in the state. “It shows they can compete through the Midwest and certainly for our electoral vote and that can make a difference this election.”

In a statement, Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, criticized Mr. Walz’s platform and record, saying that Mr. Walz and Ms. Harris had “nothing to offer the American people other than their radical, Communist ideas.”

Mr. Walz was born in West Point , a rural town of roughly 3,500 people northwest of Omaha, and spent much of his younger days in Butte and Valentine, Neb. His mother was a community activist and his father a public school administrator, and he became a high school teacher and coach in Nebraska after a year of teaching in China. He met his wife, Gwen, also a teacher, at the Nebraska school, and the two moved to her native Minnesota in 1996.

Onstage, Mr. Walz joked that Mr. Vance would probably call a runza — a bread pocket filled with beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, and a regional specialty — “a Hot Pocket.” He said his parents and the communities he grew up in taught him to “show generosity towards your neighbor,” to “work for the common good” and that chili and cinnamon rolls — a sweet and spicy favorite in Nebraska — is a good combination.

He pledged that a Harris administration would cut taxes — and “not for the billionaires” — lower the cost for rent and prescription drugs and work to provide families relief from medical debt. He argued that it was the Harris-Walz campaign that embodied small-town values.

“As we are running on these values, let’s take them to the White House,” he said.

Trump concluded his remarks at his rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., just over 100 minutes into his speech. The crowd had been thinning out toward the end of his speech, despite being nearly full when he took the stage.

Trump asked the crowd to thank the Supreme Court, whom he heaped praise on for handing down decisions he supported. He argued that Harris supports expanding the court by adding justices. President Biden has proposed reforms to the court, including term limits and an enforceable code of ethics but not adding any justices. Harris has not endorsed an expansion of the court, but she has previously expressed openness to the idea of adding judges.

Trump has now argued that Kamala Harris’s economic agenda is extreme in multiple ways. “This is communist; this is Marxist; this is fascist,” he said. The Trump campaign has recently seized on her promise to fight corporate “price gouging” on groceries, a proposal that polls well with swing voters, as a radical left proposal. Whether that policy would actually lower consumer prices may be more complicated .

Trump again attacked Kamala Harris’s laugh as crazy, his first personal attack against the vice president at this rally. In recent campaign events, his advisers and some Republican observers have argued that Trump should stick to his message on poll-tested policy issues rather than personal attacks against his Democratic rival.

At his last two events this week — a speech in Asheville, N.C., and a news conference in Bedminster, N.J. — he strayed from delivering his economic agenda to insult Harris, which he said he was “entitled” to do.

Former President Trump continues his string of personal attacks. First, he cited someone who called Vice President Kamala Harris “beautiful.” Then he said, “I am much better looking than her.”

Trump argued that Kamala Harris turned down Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania as her running mate “because he’s Jewish.” Shapiro faced a campaign from pro-Palestinian activists and some progressives who sought to derail his candidacy because of his support of Israel. Trump defended Shapiro against critics but also said, “I don’t think he’s a good person,” and he again said that Jews who vote for Democrats “should have their head examined.”

Trump said polls suggested he was at “93 percent” although it was not clear what that number was referring to. The former president said he responded by saying: “So why are we having an election? They didn’t have an election. Why are we having an election?”

Trump has tried to label Harris’s replacing Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee as a “threat to democracy” in his bid to brush off criticism. Democrats have accused Trump of subverting democracy after his role in spurring the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the Capitol.

Trump mocked Harris’s recent assertion that in a second term he would impose taxes on a variety of consumer goods. Instead, he accused her of hoping to raise taxes on Americans, adding that he would lower taxes. The Harris campaign has argued that Trump’s proposal to impose a blanket tariff of up to 20 percent on imported goods would amount to a tax increase on working families.

Tim Walz’s speech to a loud and boisterous crowd in La Vista, Neb., carried his usual appeals to joy and his jabs at Donald Trump and JD Vance, though with a side flex of his deep Nebraska roots. Walz spoke of growing up in the tiny village of Butte and serving in the state’s National Guard. He said that he and Kamala Harris embodied American small-town values and that they would fight for the middle class.

Trump took the stage at his rally in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to a rowdy welcome from a crowd that interrupted him with supporting chants. The venue, Mohegan Sun arena, seats around 8,000 people, and was nearly full. He began his speech by asserting that “Joe Biden hates” Kamala Harris. There is no evidence to support this claim.

In La Vista, Neb., Tim Walz takes the lectern to loud applause. The Minnesota governor and vice-presidential candidate tells the audience it’s good to be home in the state where he grew up. “Things got pretty exciting for me over the last 10 days — not just for me,” he says.

Hundreds of people have packed into the Astro Theater in La Vista, Neb., near Omaha, where Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota is returning to his Nebraska roots. Walz, who was born in the small town of West Point and spent years as a high school teacher and coach in his home state, will be introduced by his former high school geography student, Aubrianna Faustman, according to campaign officials.

Election officials in Michigan have disqualified Cornel West, the long-shot independent presidential candidate, from appearing on the battleground state's November election ballot. They said that the notary listed on West’s affidavit omitted required information, along with stamping the wrong sheet of paper. West’s campaign was given a week to address the concerns, but never responded.

The oversights were flagged by Mark Brewer, an election law expert and former Michigan Democratic Party chairman. He said on X that "every candidate must follow the rules in order to appear on the Michigan ballot and Cornel West is no exception.” Across the country, Democrats have engineered a series of legal and procedural moves to block ballot access for independent and third-party candidates amid concerns that they could be spoilers in a close election.

This is the correct decision: every candidate must follow the rules in order to appear on the Michigan ballot and Cornel West is no exception https://t.co/Y7gI4AldsA — Mark Brewer (@MarkBrewerDems) August 16, 2024

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, a nonpartisan veterans organization, issued a statement condemning Donald Trump’s comments that the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a civilian award, was “much better” than the Medal of Honor because service members who receive the nation’s highest military honor are often severely wounded or dead. Criticizing the remarks as “asinine” and crass, the organization’s head, Al Lipphardt, said the remarks made him question whether Trump had the “seriousness and discernment” necessary to serve as commander in chief.

Harris Campaign Reserves $370 Million for Swing-State Fall Ad Blitz

Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign announced on Saturday that it was reserving $370 million in advertising to begin after Labor Day and run through the November election, including $200 million on digital ads.

The Harris campaign said it believed this was the largest digital ad reservation ever in American politics, reflecting the need to reach voters on their phones and other devices. Just $170 million is being reserved so far on television, as traditional television audiences continue to fragment and shrink.

“This is a modern campaign in 2024 and we’re not just stuck in the times of old, where 80 percent of the budget has to be on television,” Quentin Fulks, Ms. Harris’s principal deputy campaign manager, said in an interview.

The Harris campaign did not say how much it would spend in each state. But it said its purchases of television advertising would total twice what President Biden’s 2020 campaign spent in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, four times what he spent in Georgia and six times what he spent in Nevada, the least populous of the battleground states.

The Harris campaign is advertising now in seven swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — as part of a $150 million summer ad blitz. Mr. Fulks said advertising would continue in all of those states as well as nationally.

For now, Mr. Fulks said the campaign was focused on “aggressively defining” Ms. Harris in her early weeks as a presidential candidate.

“We have to make sure that voters know her,” he said, “and at the same time, we have to make sure that we’re drawing a contrast with Trump.”

By booking early, the Harris team said it would be able to secure the best spots on the most viewed programs this fall, including college football, N.F.L., baseball, basketball and hockey broadcasts. In a memo, the campaign specifically listed ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Abbott Elementary” and the season premiere of “Golden Bachelorette,” as well as CBS’s “Survivor,” among the shows on which it was reserving ads.

The Harris campaign also said it would place ads on Fox News during the day, when the network has a “more moderate audience,” according to the memo, describing this as a strategy to reach supporters of former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, who was the runner-up in the Republican primary race, and “other conservative-leaning independents.”

Former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign has so far reserved advertising past Labor Day in just two states, booking $44 million in television time in Pennsylvania and Georgia, according to AdImpact, the media tracking service. Mr. Trump had $327 million in the bank combined with the Republican Party and their shared accounts entering August, not far behind the Harris campaign and the Democratic Party’s combined $377 million, so much more advertising is expected.

“The fact that we are beating them to the punch is certainly an advantage,” said Rob Flaherty, Ms. Harris’s deputy campaign manager, citing both the pricing and availability of ads.

The initial Harris reservation emphasizes digital advertising far more than the Biden campaign’s first fall purchase did four years ago. Then, the Biden camp announced a $280 million initial reservation, with nearly 80 percent on television. Now, the Harris campaign is setting aside 46 percent of its initial reservation on traditional television and the majority on digital and streaming services.

Despite the focus on battleground states, the Harris team said it would also spend more than $10 million on national TV, as such ads can be booked to “play at the moments of highest viewership,” according to the memo.

Of course, the difference between digital and television is increasingly blurred as a growing number of Americans watch television programs through streaming platforms like Hulu, Roku, YouTube and Paramount+, all of which are part of the Harris digital reservation.

The Harris campaign said its $200 million in digital bookings did not include a host of other online advertising, including through search and some social media and display ads.

The campaign’s ad blitz comes on top of $250 million in reservations previously announced by Future Forward , the leading pro-Harris super PAC, which began buying time at the beginning of the year.

All told, that means that voters in the most contested states will be inundated with at least $620 million in pro-Harris and anti-Trump advertising from just those two groups over the final stretch of the campaign.

Television ads that are reserved in advance can be canceled, but campaigns are typically leery of doing so because it invites critical news coverage.

A lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump sent a cease and desist letter demanding that the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group, stop running a television ad critical of Trump’s campaign team on Fox News in West Palm, Fla., the television market of Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago. The letter claims that the ad, called “Failures,” includes defamatory statements suggesting that Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, Trump’s top advisers, had failed to prepare for President Biden’s withdrawal from the race and were trying to keep Trump from looking at what they were spending on the campaign. The group, which received the letter on Friday, the day it started running the ad, says it plans to continue airing it this weekend.

Along with buying airtime on Fox News where Trump lives, the Lincoln Project has aimed ads at smartphones of people who are at two of Trump’s clubs, Mar-a-Lago in Florida and Bedminster in New Jersey, with geofencing technology that uses GPS and radio frequency identifiers to target electronic devices in a specific area. It’s part of what the group refers to as its “Audience of One” strategy, a nod to Trump’s voracious viewing habits when it comes to Fox News and social media.

Katie Rogers

Katie Rogers

Katie Rogers covers the Biden White House and Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign. She reported from Washington.

Biden’s goodbye to politics will begin in earnest with his convention speech.

President Biden’s goodbye to a half century in national politics will begin in earnest on Monday.

When he takes the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago that evening, Mr. Biden will establish his time in office and his political legacy as the foundation for the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris, the new Democratic nominee.

According to Biden aides who previewed the themes of the president’s remarks, he will say that she is the best person to finish a campaign he started — one that remains rooted in protecting democratic ideals and preventing a second term for former President Donald J. Trump, the Republican nominee. The aides spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to detail the plans.

It will be a bittersweet moment for Mr. Biden, who left the race and turned the keys of his campaign over to Ms. Harris less than a month ago. Since then, she has headlined packed rallies and delivered forceful campaign speeches, and the president has largely receded from center stage.

But Mr. Biden, who is supportive of Ms. Harris and appreciates the momentum around her, the aides said, plans to ramp up his campaign schedule. He has also been focused on sealing up his legacy as a one-term president — but one who pulled the nation out of an economic spiral during the coronavirus pandemic, a point he will make in his speech.

On Friday, Mr. Biden left Washington for Camp David for the weekend; he was scheduled to workshop his speech with Mike Donilon, a close adviser, and Vinay Reddy, his chief speechwriter.

In his speech, the president will also frame Ms. Harris’s campaign as continuing policies and ideals he has long championed. Mr. Biden’s remarks will make the case that “democracy prevailed” with his election in 2020. A win for Ms. Harris and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, in November will mean that “democracy is preserved.”

Before Mr. Biden speaks, the first lady, Jill Biden, is scheduled to deliver brief remarks. Dr. Biden’s time in office was spent supporting cancer-research initiatives and military families. She also lent her platform to many of the administration’s broader efforts, including a coronavirus vaccine campaign, and much of her time was spent on the campaign trail and at fund-raising events in support of her husband’s re-election effort.

The Biden aides said that organizers of the convention would work to recognize the president’s legacy throughout the week. Delegates will receive goody bags in which officials with the United Center, the host venue, included coffee beans for a “cup of Joe” as a tribute to Mr. Biden.

Several Biden family members are expected to join the president and first lady at the convention on Monday. The family is not expected to stay throughout the week. Mr. Biden wants to speak and then hand off the convention to Ms. Harris and Mr. Walz, the aides said. The digital banners in the convention that day will call back to Mr. Biden by displaying messages like “Spread the faith” and “History is in your hands” before going dark and converting to messages associated with Ms. Harris.

Other speakers on Monday include Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee. Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, is scheduled to speak on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with their schedule.

The rest of Mr. Biden’s time in office, the Biden aides said, would be spent working to cut costs and implement legislation, and would include a packed foreign policy agenda.

The latest New York Times/Siena College polls show Vice President Kamala Harris with a slight lead in North Carolina, a state that President Biden lost in 2020 and where former President Donald J. Trump has run well ahead in 2024. Yesterday, my colleague Maya King and I reported on renewed hopes among Democrats there that they could win North Carolina for the first time since 2008.

The Teamsters union said Kamala Harris had accepted its offer meet with its leaders.

Vice President Kamala Harris accepted an offer from the leadership of the Teamsters union to meet for a round-table discussion, according to the union.

A date has not yet been scheduled for the discussion with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a powerful union with about 1.3 million members. Ms. Harris has tried to shore up support from unions, a key voting bloc with outsize influence in battleground states including Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Other large labor organizations like the United Automobile Workers and the A.F.L.-C.I.O. have lined up behind Ms. Harris. The Teamsters, which endorsed President Biden in 2020, has not endorsed a presidential candidate in this election.

“We look forward to Vice President Harris joining a round-table of rank-and-file Teamsters to discuss the issues of importance to workers,” Kara Deniz, a Teamsters spokeswoman, said in a statement on Friday.

The Harris campaign confirmed that she accepted the union’s offer, saying the vice president plans “to discuss her record of fighting for Teamsters and their families and to highlight her vision for the future,” according to Lauren Hitt, a Harris campaign spokeswoman.

Sean O’Brien, president of the Teamsters, spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last month, which prompted criticism among union members. He also requested a speaking slot at the Democratic convention, which begins on Monday in Chicago. A final list of speakers has not been released.

On Tuesday, the Teamsters’ National Black Caucus endorsed Ms. Harris’s campaign, setting it apart from the overall union.

Mr. Biden has often claimed he leads the most pro-union administration in the country’s history. Ms. Harris, as Mr. Biden’s governing partner, has benefited from that impression, as the Black caucus cited Mr. Biden’s position on labor in its endorsement.

The Teamsters inched toward at least a break with Mr. Trump, if not an endorsement of Ms. Harris. The former president, during a discussion with Elon Musk, recently voiced support for firing striking workers . The Teamsters responded on social media with a line from Mr. O’Brien’s speech at the Republican convention: “Companies fire workers who try to join unions and hide behind toothless laws that are meant to protect working people but are manipulated to benefit corporations. This is economic terrorism.”

Mr. O’Brien has previously indicated he would be open to endorsing Mr. Trump, whom he met privately with earlier in the year. Mr. Trump has tried to earn support from unions, which historically are a Democratic constituency.

Erica L. Green reported from Raleigh, N.C., and Jim Tankersley and Nicholas Nehamas from Washington.

Harris lays out her economic vision, casting Trump’s as backward-looking.

Kamala harris outlines her plan for an ‘opportunity economy’, vice president kamala harris presented her economic agenda, which included lowering the cost of food, drugs, housing and other living expenses, during a speech in raleigh, n.c., on friday..

As president, I will be laser focused on creating opportunities for the middle class that advance their economic security, stability and dignity. Together, we will build what I call an opportunity economy. An economy where everyone can compete and have a real chance to succeed. Everyone, regardless of who they are or where they start, has an opportunity to build wealth for themselves and their children. Many of the big food companies are seeing their highest profits in two decades. Look, I know most businesses are creating jobs, contributing to our economy and playing by the rules. But some are not, and that’s just not right. And we need to take action when that is the case. And by the end of my first term, we will end America’s housing shortage by building three million new homes and rentals that are affordable for the middle class.

Vice President Kamala Harris unspooled her economic agenda on Friday in her first major policy address, casting her vision as one for the future and former President Donald J. Trump’s as of the past, as she argued that she would improve the lives of middle-class Americans and benefit generations of their descendants.

In a roughly 30-minute speech in Raleigh, N.C., she painted a sharp contrast between herself and Mr. Trump, who has spent more time attacking President Biden’s economic policies than laying out his own.

“This election, I do strongly believe, is about two very different visions for our nation,” Ms. Harris said. “One — ours — focused on the future and the other focused on the past. We see that contrast clearly in many ways, including when it comes to how we think about the economy.”

The speech reflected her fight with Mr. Trump over how to frame the economic debate in the election. While she tries to make it a choice between competing policy agendas, with diverging possible effects on workers, families and the nation’s economic health, Mr. Trump has tried to present the issue as a referendum on the economic stewardship of Ms. Harris and Mr. Biden. Mr. Trump has focused particularly on the surge of inflation on the Biden administration’s watch.

In her speech, Ms. Harris emphasized middle-class Americans’ everyday experiences, like sitting at the kitchen table paying their bills or browsing grocery-store shelves. She detailed how she would build what she called an “opportunity economy” that would lower the cost of living, provide economic security and remove barriers to building generational wealth.

“As president, I will be laser-focused on creating opportunities for the middle class that advance their economic security, stability and dignity,” she said as she ticked through an economic policy plan released by her campaign on Friday.

Ms. Harris delivered her remarks at the Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence, an automotive training facility at Wake Tech Community College, before a crowd of about 250 people. It was a more intimate setting than her mass rallies on the campaign trail in recent weeks, signaling a desire to convey a serious policy focus as her already truncated timeline to reach American voters enters a critical stage.

She was introduced by a local business owner, Michael De Los Santos, who runs Mike D’s BBQ in Durham. “As parents, we’re always thinking about the future, and we want a world where our children can thrive,” Mr. De Los Santos said. “Raising a family is hard work, and working hard is hard work. Doing both can feel impossible, and we need leaders that understand that.”

Ms. Harris’s speech put on display her efforts to unpack policy by personalizing its impact . As Mr. Biden struggled to communicate his legislative accomplishments over the past two years, she increasingly became a key messenger for the administration on domestic policy.

In Raleigh, Ms. Harris recounted working at a McDonald’s to earn “spending money” as a young woman, while many of her colleagues tried to support families on paltry wages. And before she discussed her policy plans to lower rents and reduce prices of starter homes, she described watching her mother save for more than a decade to afford their first home.

Ms. Harris emphasized the cost of housing as a barrier to economic prosperity. She proposed giving first-time home buyers up to $25,000 in down payment assistance and called for the construction of three million housing units that would be affordable for the middle class.

But she also emphasized the importance of being able to pursue homeownership.

“It’s more than a financial transaction,” she said. “It’s so much more than that. It’s more than a house. Homeownership and what that means, it’s a symbol of the pride that comes with hard work. It’s financial security. It represents what you will be able to do for your children.”

Much of Ms. Harris’s agenda represents an expansion of policies proposed by Mr. Biden in his latest presidential budget and during his re-election campaign.

Those measures would generally require legislation from Congress, no sure thing in a divided nation. And she and her aides have laid out few details of how her administration would pay for the substantial spending increases and tax cuts her plan calls for.

Ms. Harris said during her remarks that she would release more details of her plan in the coming weeks. But she elaborated on some of its more elusive and controversial aspects, such as pursuing a federal ban on “price gouging on food” and penalizing businesses.

“I know most businesses are creating jobs, contributing to our economy and playing by the rules, but some are not,” Ms. Harris said. “And that’s just not right and we need to take action when that is the case.”

Even before Ms. Harris released her policy plan, Mr. Trump accused her of promoting a dangerously left-wing agenda — particularly her call for a federal ban on price-gouging on groceries — and tried to tie her to autocrats from Latin America like Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela. A similar strategy proved somewhat effective for Republicans in 2020.

On Friday, the Trump campaign called the vice president “Comrade Kamala” and said she had gone “full communist” in a news release.

Kevin Hassett, who previously served as the chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers during Mr. Trump’s presidency, told reporters on Friday that Ms. Harris’s plan to curb price-gouging was tantamount to having the government set prices, which he said would lead to the types of “food shortages, and even famine” that had plagued socialist countries.

Mr. Hassett also criticized Ms. Harris’s economic agenda as a return to left-wing policy positions that she had spent the last several weeks distancing herself from. Ms. Harris’s “roll toward the middle is completely over,” he said during a call hosted by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee.

He and Trump campaign officials declined to answer questions about Mr. Trump’s economic policy proposals, including a blanket tariff of up to 20 percent on imported goods, which Ms. Harris has argued amounts to a tax increase on working families.

Polling has found broad support for bringing down the costs of necessities like food, housing and health care, and progressive groups have cheered Ms. Harris’s policies.

As part of her strategy — and in a break of sorts from Mr. Biden — Ms. Harris is spending relatively little time celebrating progress in the economy under their administration.

She is not, for example, boasting that grocery price increases have slowed drastically over the last year. Instead, she is acknowledging consumer frustration with elevated price levels and pledging to fight to bring costs down if elected.

Many of Ms. Harris’s proposals seemed designed to appeal to working- and middle-class families, younger people and those without generational wealth, who are more likely to be Black or Hispanic, and from rural areas.

Among the measures are a new $6,000 tax credit for parents with a child in the first year of life and a $2,000 cap on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for all Americans. She is also calling for $40 billion worth of tax incentives for developers who build starter homes, according to economic advisers to her campaign.

Mr. Trump, for his part, has focused on inflation, contrasting the high prices under Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris with the relatively low inflation the country experienced when he was president.

Ms. Harris, he told reporters in New Jersey on Thursday, “just declared that tackling inflation will be a Day 1 priority. For her, it is going to be Day 1, but Day 1 really for Kamala was 3.5 years ago. Where has she been and why hasn’t she done it?”

He has also sought to minimize the record job gains and strong economic growth under the two Democrats, and to play down the pandemic recession that began at the end of his term.

But instead of fighting Mr. Trump directly over whether the administration bears blame for high price growth, Ms. Harris has largely cast her economic gaze forward.

She has repeatedly cited economists who warn that Mr. Trump’s plans, including his broad tariffs proposal, could reignite an inflation rate that has finally cooled over the last year. On Friday, Ms. Harris pointed to Mr. Trump’s record of giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans.

“I think that if you want to know who someone cares about,” she said, “look who they fight for.”

Chris Cameron was aboard JD Vance’s campaign plane during the midair emergency.

JD Vance’s campaign plane made an emergency landing in Milwaukee.

A chartered campaign plane carrying Senator JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, was forced to make an emergency landing in Milwaukee on Friday shortly after takeoff because of a door malfunction on the aircraft, a campaign spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman, Taylor Van Kirk, said that the aircraft, a Boeing 737-86J that the campaign refers to as Trump Force Two, returned to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, where the problem was quickly resolved before the flight continued to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

“The pilot advised there was a malfunction with the door seal,” Ms. Van Kirk said in a statement.

It was the second time in a week that one of the Trump campaign’s planes had a mechanical issue. Last Friday, former President Donald J. Trump’s Boeing 757 had to divert to Billings, Mont., while he was en route to a rally in Bozeman, Mont., because of an unspecified issue. He completed the journey on a charter aircraft.

This week, Mr. Vance went to Wisconsin to deliver remarks to the Milwaukee Police Association, a union of about 1,500 members that endorsed the Republican ticket.

He was traveling with his wife, Usha, along with a group of advisers, Secret Service agents and journalists, including a reporter from The New York Times — and his German shepherd, Atlas. The flight landed around 4 p.m. Eastern time near Cincinnati, where the Vances live.

About four minutes after the plane took off from Milwaukee, the pilot asked passengers over the intercom to fasten their seatbelts and said that the plane would be immediately returning to the airport. Secret Service agents aboard the plane reacted with confusion and laughter, and it was not immediately clear to some passengers that there was an emergency until after the plane had landed.

After landing, the plane remained on the tarmac for just under an hour. The pilot apologized over the intercom for causing “elevated heart rates.”

The Federal Aviation Administration referred questions on Friday to the Trump-Vance campaign about the emergency landing and the diversion of Mr. Trump’s plane one week earlier.

The plane used by Mr. Vance is 22 years old, according to public aviation records. The charter company that operates the aircraft did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The emergency landing was at least the third mishap involving a Trump campaign plane this year.

In May, Mr. Trump’s ubiquitous Boeing 757, called Trump Force One, clipped a parked plane as it was taxiing at a Florida airport. It was not clear whether Mr. Trump was aboard the aircraft at the time of the incident. A few days later, he was seen traveling aboard a considerably smaller private jet to Cincinnati for a fund-raiser.

How to watch the first Harris-Trump debate.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump will meet for the first time in a televised debate on ABC in September, a critical test in a fluid campaign that should draw tens of millions of viewers and that once had appeared to be in doubt.

Mr. Trump had committed to the debate in May but wavered after President Biden, following a disastrous debate performance in late June, withdrew from the race in July.

When is it?

The debate is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern time on Sept. 10, less than a week before early voting begins in Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state. It will run for 90 minutes.

Where is it?

The National Constitution Center in Philadelphia will host the debate.

Where can I watch it?

ABC will broadcast the debate, which it is producing in conjunction with its Philadelphia affiliate, WPVI-TV . ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu will stream the debate.

Who are the moderators?

David Muir, the anchor of “World News Tonight,” and Linsey Davis, anchor of “ABC News Live Prime,” will be the moderators.

What are the debate rules?

ABC has not yet announced the rules or whether there will be an in-person audience. During the CNN debate in June, there was no audience. The network, trying to prevent the candidates from interrupting each other, muted Mr. Trump’s and Mr. Biden’s microphones when it was not their turn to speak.

Will there be a second debate between these candidates?

That is also not clear. Mr. Trump has said that he had agreed to two other debates , with NBC News and Fox News, while a spokesman for the Harris-Walz campaign said that Ms. Harris would debate Mr. Trump one more time in October assuming that he shows up for the ABC News debate.
