Learn more about what comes with the kit .

Our Defensive Driving safety training course is regulation aligned. Each class contains sections on proper vehicle care, law and controls, weather conditions, preparedness, and more.

This presentation includes intermittent practice quiz questions to prepare for the final written exam included with the course. In addition to the written exam, this course also includes a checklist for employers to use when administering a practical exam. Though we include some basic traffic and driving laws, you will still need to familiarize yourself with all other applicable federal, state, provincial, territorial, and local laws and regulations.

Estimated Training Length: Because everyone learns and progresses at different speeds, the amount of time you spend taking this training will vary. However, the estimated time for this training is 120 – 150 min.

Intended Audience:

OSHA Requirements: This course meets the following OSHA Requirements:

  • General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act

Not quite what you need ? We also offer an online defensive driving training course as well as corporate broadcast licenses so that you can make the training materials available on your network to branches across the country.

online safety training

Online Training

Our online trainings are great for those who want to learn at their own pace and on their own time. Online trainings can be completed from any location, eliminating the need for expensive seminars.

Employers can assign employees specific trainings and keep track of their progress and exam scores. We also offer group trainings , company accounts , and even bulk discounts for businesses.

Currently Viewing: Training Kit

Our kits are the perfect resource for those who want the freedom of training employees themselves. Unlike traditional trainings that are taken once, the kit offers a complete initial training as well as activities and materials to train employees long after they’ve been certified.

These materials include practical evaluations, exams, toolbox trainings, accident profiles, ect.

This is the current option

train the trainer safety training

Train the Trainer

Train-the-trainer courses allow employers to take full control of the training process. Employees who take these courses are fully certified to use the training kit and train others.

This means that employers can hold training seminars and courses without the need for third-party trainers. We will also include a training presentation and materials to train others.

USA Aligned

Our Hard Hat Training training kit materials give you everything you need to be regulation aligned. We’ve spent years fine tuning these to make sure it contains the latest requirements, safety regulations, and hazards that come with operating equipment.

Our courses are written and regularly audited to meet the applicable OSHA, EECO, HHS, STC, MSHA and more standards. To learn what standards this course meets, see the course description tab. We list all applicable standards in the standards section.

Our Hard Hat Training Series Training Kits are used all over the world –Canada, South America, Europe, Africa, and more… Our training kits are completely customizable , you can add, edit or remove anything in the training program to make it fit any international safety training standards that you are needing. It only takes minutes to get the training materials ready to use.

Online Safety Training FAQs

What does each online class cover.

Generally speaking, each course covers the following: 1. Overview of the Course/Introduction to the Equipment 2. Anatomy, including pre-shift inspections 3. Stability Principles 4. Common Hazards/Accident Profiles 5. Safe Operation 6. Rigging and Hand Signals (for crane courses only).

How long is the course?

Trainees go at their own pace, but in general each class (including the exam) takes anywhere from 2 to 2.5 hours. We recommend planning for two or more so you don’t end up rushing through the exam.

Are these courses OSHA-aligned?

All of our Hard Hat Training online courses were built and continue to be updated by our trainers and inspectors using OSHA and ANSI guidelines. But it is important to understand that by OSHA-aligned, we mean it follows to the best of our ability the best practices and safety principles put forth by OSHA. In an online format, it is not possible to cover every code for every situation or hazard across every industry. For this reason, our safety training solutions are tools to further knowledge and help employers train and/or certify their crew. But just because a course or program is OSHA-aligned it does not necessarily mean a company as a whole will be aligned or avoid citation if OSHA were to audit them. There is so much more that goes into collective company alignment with OSHA. For example, workers need to be observed applying in the field what they learned in the classroom. This observation/practical exam should be done by trainers, supervisors, or other designated competent persons. Whether you use our training kits or online courses, we provide guides to help employers do this. Other things that need to be done for ultimate alignment may include but are not limited to: addressing with your crew any gaps in the training or additional hazards or principles specific to your work situation; creating, training on, and enforcing and abiding by written safety programs (also known as plans or procedures); and performing regular inspections and risk assessments.

Are the e-learning classes up-to-date with OSHA standards?

Yes, all of our Hard Hat Training online courses are up-to-date with the latest OSHA standards. As standards change, we make changes to the courses. If you purchase any of our online courses outright, though, it will then be your responsibility to update the course in accordance with any changes to the standard.

Does this course certify or qualify me?

There is a lot of confusion among operators and even companies about what it means to be certified or qualified. Simply put, no, a course does not certify anyone, only an employer does. Or, in other words, because it is the employer’s responsibility to make sure an employee is properly trained, it is also his or her responsibility to say when the employee is “certified,” “qualified,” or “competent.” The online courses, like our training kits on CD or USB Drive or even live training via a 3rd party, is just a tool to help them in doing so.

According to OSHA, all operators of heavy equipment must receive operator training. Proper training must include a classroom portion including a written exam, as well as a practical hands-on portion/exam wherein the operator is observed operating the machine. The online course satisfies the required classroom portion of the training. Upon completion of the course and written exam, the safety administrator of the company will receive a checklist which can be used to observe the trainee on the machine. When done successfully, the administrator signs the bottom of the form. At this point, unless further training is required by your employer, you have done everything required by OSHA to be considered by your employer as “certified,” “qualified,” or “competent.”

If I pass this class and exam can I take my certification and get a job anywhere?

See “Does this course certify me?” This will depend on your employer. Remember, it is their responsibility to see that you are trained and if there is ever an accident, it is they who will have to prove to OSHA that they trained you sufficiently. Because of this, while some smaller businesses may simply accept your certificate and a copy of your test, more often than not they will require you to go through their own training program. This is their right to do so. It is their further responsibility to train you in accordance with the job, site, equipment, etc. Having said that, we have fielded many calls from potential employers who wanted to learn more about the classroom portion of the training we offered. After hearing our explanation, they accepted the online class as satisfying the classroom portion of the required training and proceeded to do their own practical.

How long is the training good for?

OSHA standards dictate that safety certification needs to be completed at least once every three years. Since no online course can provide “certification,” these courses will combine with your onsite practical training to fulfill OSHA’s requirements for up to three years. Having said that, refresher training is required sooner if an employee changes sites or jobs, is asked to operate a different type of the equipment, is involved in a near-miss or accident, or is observed operating the machine in a dangerous manner.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes, upon successful completion of the course and exam, you will have immediate electronic access to your test, a certificate, and a checklist you can use for the practical hands-on portion of the training. Simply print them off.

How many people can use this course? Can I play it for several employees at the same time?

When a course is assigned to an employee, only that employee can take the course. There are many reasons for this, but most importantly the course is designed to train that one employee per OSHA regulations. Also, there is a final written exam at the end that will be linked to the trainee assigned. OSHA requires proof of training and if multiple people were to sit in on that one course, they would not get credit for taking it.

Can I customize the classes?

Your business’s learning portal can be completely customized for your employees including colors and logo. Additionally, if you purchase our courses outright to be used on your own company LMS (learning management system), you also get the right to rebuild them and customize them to meet your own needs. If you have Adobe Captivate, which we use to build our courses, customization is even easier.

Are SCORM/Tin Can options available for use on our own company LMS?

All of our online courses are designed to be SCORM-compatible and can be easily uploaded to your company’s current SCORM-friendly LMS. You can license their use annually or purchase them outright. Licensing or purchasing them outright does not, however, give you the right to resell or distribute our courses to parties other than those whom you are training.

If we buy or license the eLearning courses for use on our own LMS, can you customize them for us?

Yes, we have done and continue to do this for clients. Pricing depends on the extent of customization requested. Please contact us for a quote.

Can I resell these trainings?

We do have resale options available. Contact us regarding resale opportunities.

How do I Look Up My OSHA Alignment Safety Certification?

So, you have already purchased a course from us, taken the online training, and passed the certifaction exam with flying colors. Now what? Most people want to print off a copy of thier OSHA Alignment Safety Certification and keep it for your records. Learn how to do that .

Defensive Driving Monthly Training Topic Ryder Safety & Loss Prevention * Proprietary and Confidential * Introduction According to the National Safety Council ... – PowerPoint PPT presentation

  • Monthly Training Topic
  • Ryder Safety Loss Prevention
  • According to the National Safety Council
  • Every accident in which a driver is involved shall be considered preventable unless there was no action, which the driver could have reasonably taken to avoid the accident and that, his actions in no way contributed to the occurrence of the accident. The driver must drive in such a way that he commits no errors himself and so control his vehicle to make due allowance for the condition of the road, the weather or the traffic, and so that mistakes of other drivers do not involve him in any accident.
  • A preventable collision is defined as Any accident involving a vehicle which results in property damage and/or personal injury, regardless of who was injured, what property was damaged, to what extent, or where it occurred, in which the driver in question failed to exercise every reasonable precaution to prevent the accident.
  • Number of fatal crashes has decreased approximately 15 over a 15 year period
  • Some major causes of motor vehicle collisions are Distracted Driving, Driver Fatigue, Drunk Driving, Speeding and Aggressive Driving
  • More than 2 million people are injured in traffic crashes/collisions each year
  • More than 33,000 people die in traffic crashes/collisions each year. This comes down to approximately 100 people/ day, 15 people/ hour, 1 person every 5 minutes
  • Motor Vehicle Collisions are the number one cause of occupational deaths
  • Defensive Driving is a form of training that goes beyond mastery of the rules of the road and the basic mechanics of driving.
  • The goal is to reduce the risk of driving by anticipating dangerous situations, despite adverse conditions or the mistakes of others. This can be achieved through adherence to a variety of general rules, as well as the practice certain driving techniques.
  • The driver must operate in such a way that he/she
  • Commits no errors himself
  • Controls his vehicle to make due allowance for the condition(s) of the road, the weather or the traffic
  • Controls his vehicle to make due allowance to avoid the mistakes made by others
  • If a driver is only paying attention to his/her own skills, he/she is
  • Driving offensively, not defensively. Am offensive driver is not a safe driver.
  • The next several slides will present some information on ways to drive defensively. Each slide will cover the following topics
  • Avoiding Distractions
  • Recognizing Hazards
  • Speed Management
  • Space Management
  • Communication
  • Emergency Maneuvers and Escape Routes
  • A defensive driver will avoid all distractions while operating his/her vehicle. Driving should be the ONLY task on the drivers mind while operating a vehicle.
  • Different Types of Driver Distractions
  • Rubbernecking
  • Driver fatigue
  • Talking on a cell phone
  • Talking with passengers
  • Using the radio
  • Using a map/GPS
  • Eating and drinking
  • It is also important to recognize these distractions in other drivers. You must assume that the other drivers are not paying attention. Distracted and inattentive drivers are your toughest safety challenge. Get in the habit of recognizing the actions of inattentive/distracted drivers. Think ahead and ask yourself What if?
  • Your vehicle has 6 sides
  • A defensive driver knows what is going on in front of, behind, both sides, above of and underneath of the vehicle at all times. Make a habit of constantly scanning the environment around your vehicle. This is referred to as a visual scan
  • Components of a visual scan
  • Area of sight around all 6 sides of your vehicle
  • Use your mirrors - keep them clean and properly adjusted
  • Use distance scanning when applicable - looking 1 or 2 blocks ahead will give you additional time to respond to and react to a hazard (it will also help reduce fatigue
  • Critical times for enhanced scanning Crosswalks, intersections, school zones
  • Speeding is defined as
  • Traveling over the posted speed limit
  • Traveling too fast for conditions
  • The consequences of excessive speed
  • Accidents are more likely to happen
  • Damage is more costly
  • Fatalities are more common
  • A common belief is if vehicle is going slower than the vehicles around them, this will contribute to accidents.
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has documented studies that illustrate that this is not the case.
  • The fact is that as speed increases - so does the severity of the accident.
  • Most of us understand that as vehicle speed increases so does the distance required to stop the vehicle.
  • Managing the space in front of your vehicle to allow sufficient stopping distance is a critical part of defensive driving.
  • Total Stopping Distance Includes
  • Driver Perception Time
  • The time it takes the driver to see the hazard, and the brain to recognize that it is a hazard. This perception time can be as long as ¼ to ¾ of a second.
  • Driver Reaction Time
  • The time it takes the body takes to move the foot from accelerator to brake pedal. The reaction time can also be as long as ¼ to ¾ of a second.
  • Vehicle Braking Time
  • The time is takes for the vehicle to stop once applied
  • Communication Communicate your actions clearly and early
  • Always use your signaling devices to communicate your intentions
  • Right and left turn signals
  • Gently use your horn
  • Use your lights (even in daytime and especially in rain, fog, snow, etc.)
  • Allow others the space and time to react to your signals. Understand the other driver may not see your signals immediately. Give others time to notice the signal and react accordingly
  • Emergency situations happen suddenly and unexpectedly. A defensive driver will find and use the best escape path possible. Remember to not panic or slam on your brakes.
  • If an emergency maneuver is required, there are typically two possible routes
  • Another traffic lane
  • Road shoulder or ditch
  • Three typical emergency situations are
  • Oncoming traffic
  • Stopped or converging traffic
  • A front tire blowout
  • Always have an escape route
  • Plan ahead and be aware of possible hazards that could cause you to take action.
  • Identify areas, or actions that could help you avoid hazards and put distance between you and dangerous situations.
  • Always allow yourself enough space to react and adapt to changing traffic situations.
  • Always remember, YOU are a PROFESSIONAL DRIVER. You have years of experience and have received training and information that allows you to recognize and react to dangerous situations and hazards on the road.
  • It is not realistic to assume that other motorists are able to recognize the same hazards and have the same knowledge and ability to react to them.
  • As a professional driver, it is your job to always drive defensively
  • True or False? Defensive Driving is a form of training that goes beyond mastery of the rules of the road and the basic mechanics of driving.
  • True or False? A defensive driver has absolutely no responsibility if another driver makes a mistake.
  • What type of driver only pays attention to his/her own skills?
  • Defensive Driver
  • Offensive Driver
  • Good Driver
  • None of the above
  • How can a vehicle operator drive defensively?
  • Avoiding distractions
  • Recognizing hazards
  • Managing their speed and space
  • Communicating with other drivers on the road
  • All of the above
  • True or False? It is important to recognize distractions in other drivers.
  • Your vehicle has _____ sides.
  • True or False? You are breaking the law if you travel 1mph over the speed limit
  • What components make up a vehicle stopping distance?
  • Driver perception time, driver reaction time, vehicle stopping distance
  • Driver perception time, driver mental time, vehicle stopping distance
  • Driver perception time, driver reaction time, vehicle braking distance
  • True or False? It is important to communicate your intentions clearly and early to allow others the time needed to react.

Important information for candidates before and during the exam

Before your driving school can register you for the theoretical driving test, the following requirements must be met:

  •     Application for a driver's license at the responsible driving license authority or the driving license office
  •     Attendance of the legally prescribed number of theory lessons at your driving school

We will need the following documents from you at the test date:

  • Identity card or passport (mandatory for applicants from countries outside the EU)
  • Proof of training from the driving school regarding the theory lessons attended (if required and not already sent to us by the driving school )
  • Voucher for the fee paid on the FE voucher purchase (available only in german language)

You can take the theory test at one of our more than 30 locations in Hesse - certainly also in your area. We offer the exam in the following languages: German, English, French, Greek, High Arabic, Italian, Croatian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

Try to arrive on time, well rested and without rushing to the appointment. If you are paying the test fee yourself, please remember to purchase the necessary voucher in advance under FE voucher purchase (available only in german language) . After we have checked your identity using your ID and the examiner has allocated you the test station, you can answer the questions as usual while practicing on the computer. Please enter your e-mail address for the transmission of results at the latest during the exam. As soon as you have submitted the questionnaire, we will evaluate your answers and you will receive your result directly on the screen. If you have passed the test, you will receive your results report by eMail, which will serve as proof for your driving school and yourself that you have successfully passed the theoretical driving test.

You have passed the theory test, completed the practical training at your driving school and reached the minimum age - then your driving school can register you for the practical driving test at TÜV Hessen. Our tip: Practice with your driving instructor under exam conditions in the last few driving lessons before the appointment.

We require the following documents from you at the examination date:

  • Identity card or passport (mandatory for applicants from EU countries)
  • Proof of training from your driving school as confirmation of the minimum practical training (if not already sent to us by the driving school)
  • If necessary: Glasses or contact lenses!
  • If applicable, proof of shifting competence (if not already sent to us by the driving school)
  • Suitable protective clothing for two-wheeler tests
  • Voucher for the fee paid on FE voucher purchase (only in german language)

As with the theory test, you should also be well rested and arrive at the agreed location on time for the practical test. The TÜV Hessen examiner will introduce himself to you there. You will then take your time to adjust yourself in the driver's seat (setting the interior and exterior mirrors, seat distance to the steering wheel, backrest angle, head restraints, fastening the seat belt). The test lasts approx. 55 minutes and the route is set by the examiner. If you are paying the test fee yourself, please remember to purchase the required voucher in advance under FE voucher purchase (available only in german language)

The nationwide Corona Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance, which was originally due to remain in force until April 7, 2023, was repealed on February 2. Even though masks are no longer mandatory, we would like to draw your attention to the BMAS recommendations for avoiding respiratory infections such as influenza, flu-like infections and COVID-19 at work or during theoretical and practical driving tests:

Respiratory infections, which are transmitted via droplets and aerosols, regularly spread rapidly, especially during the heating season. This applies not only to COVID-19, but also to influenza and flu-like infections. It is therefore recommended that proven protective measures continue to be implemented during driving tests even after the SARS-CoV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Ordinance ceases to apply on 2 February 2023 in order to avoid infection and minimize staff absences due to illness.

These include, above all, the AHA+L rule (keep your distance, observe hygiene, wear (respiratory) masks, ventilate properly). During the practical driving test in particular, those involved in the test sit together in a very confined space. In order to avoid infecting other people if the minimum distance of 1.50 m is not observed or if they are indoors, people who show typical cold symptoms such as coughing or sniffles should wear medical face masks or respirators.

We want to avoid absences due to illness at all costs and protect everyone involved. Ultimately, we also want to be able to continue to meet all examination dates.

We are arriving in Frankfurt at 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday and will be renting a car to visit relatives in Hannover for 4 days before heading to Brugge, Belgium . The only time we truly "need" a car is in Hannover because we will be touring the countryside with my cousin and his family, and their car will not hold all of us. But then, my husband and I did some research on trains vs. cars , and with four train tickets, it still ends up being cheaper to rent a car all the way to Brugge, even paying the extra $150 Euro to drop it off there instead of back at the Frankfurt airport.

But of course now I am doubting myself and wondering if the thing to do would be taking the train in all directions and renting a car for 4 days in Hannover...my husband found that renting a car for a week is the same price as 4 days, so again we are back to the car idea...there is still time to change things if I heard another, better idea.

I really appreciate all the experts on these forums and I'm willing to put up with the occasional troll post in order to find out helpful hints, so thanks for all the interest and advice!

so what will be your exact itinerary?

defensive driving course powerpoint presentation

Just to make sure, have you checked the train fares using www.bahn.de? Other and for some strange reason very popular sites (Raileurope, Eurail) often add a lot of surcharges.

A family CAN travel between FRA and Hannover for 40€ on a "Happy Weekend" ticket - takes about 5+ hours using regional trains, plan on 3 changes of train for these. Discount fares on high-speed trains (around 3 hours, 0-2 changes of train) for 2 adults and 2 kids (up to age 14) run 49-79€ TOTAL for a sample travel date of Sept. 23 (What's your date? That matters when it comes to price) right now at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en , the German railways itinerary page.

For the same sample date, I see fares of 59€ to 79€ for the whole family for your trip to Brugge. So I suspect the train fares you were looking at were the inflated Raileurope fares - correct? Check the German Railways (DB page) for your specific dates and you'll probably find something good!

Oh, I am really confused now...I just looked on the http://www.bahn.de and plugged in our date of July 28th and it showed tickets of 129 Euro each?? Surely that can't be right. It is entirely possible we have been looking in all the wrong places.

I do know that we will be tired from the air travel and won't want to transfer trains, so if anyone is looking for fares for me (danke!!) we are wanting the fastest option.

What the price of train tickets will be will depend on the ages of your children, so no one can really help you without knowing that.

defensive driving course powerpoint presentation

July 28th is too close. You probably won't get any discounted tickets anymore. Russ' prices referred to a later travel date in september.

You can always wait and buy the ticket on the spot once you're there (172€) or get the Happy Weekend fare and ride the slow trains (40€.) That's what I'd do.

But for the trip to Bruges, you have much more control over making your train departure time, and the savings fare makes a lot more sense. Again, buy now.
