సినీ నటులు నవదీప్‌ (navdeep), బిందు మాధవి (bindu madhavi) ప్రధాన పాత్రల్లో దర్శకుడు శ్రీప్రవీణ్‌ కుమార్‌ తెరకెక్కించిన వెబ్‌ సిరీస్‌.. ‘న్యూసెన్స్‌: సీజన్‌ 1’. మీడియా నేపథ్యంలో రూపొందిన ఈ సిరీస్‌ టీజర్‌, ట్రైలర్లు ప్రేక్షకుల్లో ఆసక్తి రేకెత్తించాయి. అలా అంచనాల నడుమ ఓటీటీ ‘ఆహా’లో ఇటీవల విడుదలై సందడి చేస్తోన్న ఈ సిరీస్‌ కథా కమామిషు ఏంటో చూద్దాం (newsense web series review)..

ఇదీ కథ: మదనపల్లి బ్యాక్‌డ్రాప్‌లో తెరకెక్కిందీ కథ. స్థానిక రిపోర్టర్‌ శివ (నవదీప్‌), ఇతర విలేకర్లు.. ఇటు అధికార పార్టీ నాయకులతో, ఇటు ప్రతిపక్ష నాయకులతో స్నేహపూర్వకంగా ఉంటారు. ఆమ్యామ్యాలకు అలవాటుపడతారు. మరోవైపు, తన వ్యవసాయ భూమిని ఫలానా వ్యక్తి కబ్జా చేశాడంటూ అదే గ్రామానికి చెందిన ఓ వృద్ధుడు.. ఎమ్మార్వో ఆఫీసు చుట్టూ తిరిగి తిరిగి విసిగిపోతాడు. అక్కడ న్యాయం జరగదని భావిస్తాడు. దాంతో.. విలేకరులకు చెబితే వాళ్లు వార్త రాస్తారని, అది ప్రచురితమైతే తనకు ఏదో విధంగా న్యాయం జరుగుతుందని తెలుసుకుంటాడు. అలా తమను సంప్రదించిన వృద్ధుడికి ఆ జర్నలిస్టులు న్యాయం చేయగలిగారా? రాజకీయ నాయకుల అండ ఉన్న వారు తమ ఊరికి కొత్తగా వచ్చిన ఎస్‌.ఐ.కు ఎందుకు భయపడాల్సి వచ్చింది? స్థానిక రిపోర్టర్‌గా ఉండే తన ప్రేయసి నీల (బిందు మాధవి)ని హైదరాబాద్‌లోని హెడ్‌ ఆఫీసుకి పంపిస్తానన్న శివ మాట నిలబెట్టుకున్నాడా? తదితర ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానాన్ని తెరపై చూసి తెలుసుకుంటేనే బాగుంటుంది (newsense review).

ఎలా ఉందంటే: మీడియా ఇతివృత్తంతో సినిమాలే చాలా తక్కువ సంఖ్యలో తెరకెక్కాయి. వెబ్‌ సిరీస్‌ విషయంలో అది ఇంకా తక్కువనే చెప్పాలి. సామాజిక అంశాల ప్రస్తావన, స్కామ్‌లు, ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్‌ తదితర కోణాలుండడంతో ఆ సజ్జెక్ట్‌పై ప్రేక్షకుల్లో ఆసక్తి ఎప్పుడూ ఉంటుంది. ఆ క్రమంలోనే 6 ఎపిసోడ్లతో కూడిన ఈ ‘న్యూసెన్స్‌: సీజన్‌ 1’ తీసుకొచ్చారు దర్శకుడు శ్రీప్రవీణ్‌ కుమార్‌. అయితే, ఇది ప్రస్తుతం కథ కాదు. పీరియాడికల్‌ కాన్సెప్ట్‌తో.. 90ల్లో విలేకర్లు, రాజకీయ నాయకుల మధ్య ఎలాంటి సత్సంబంధాలు ఉండేవన్న విషయాన్ని తెరపైకి తీసుకొచ్చారు. మదనపల్లి చుట్టూ ఆ స్టోరీ నడిపించారు. రిపోర్టర్‌ శివపై ఓ ముఠా దాడి చేసే సన్నివేశంతో సిరీస్‌ ప్రారంభంలోనే ప్రేక్షకుల్లో ఉత్కంఠ పెంచిన దర్శకుడు దాన్ని ఆఖరి వరకు ఆ స్థాయి టెంపోను కొనసాగించలేకపోయారు. తెరపై కనిపించే ప్రతి పాత్ర బ్యాక్‌గ్రౌండ్‌ వివరిస్తూ సన్నివేశాలను సుదీర్ఘంగా తెరకెక్కించారు. హీరో ఇంట్రడక్షన్‌ సీన్‌ విషయంలో.. సామాన్యులకు అండగా నిలిచి వారికి న్యాయం చేసేందుకు శివ ఏదైనా సంచలన వార్త రాసుంటాడని, అందుకే అతడిపై దాడి జరిగిందనుకునే అవకాశం ఉంటుంది. ‘మన ఆలోచన కరెక్ట్‌ అవుతుంది’ అని అనుకుంటూ సిరీస్‌ను ఆసక్తిగా చూడడం ప్రారంభిస్తే ఆడియన్స్‌కు నిరాశే ఎదురవుతుంది. ఎందుకంటే.. ఊహించనిది అక్కడ జరుగుతుంది. అలా.. శివ, ఇతర విలేకరుల పాత్రల పరిచయం, భూ వివాదం ఎదుర్కొనే వృద్ధుడు ప్రెస్‌క్లబ్‌ చుట్టూ తిరగడాన్ని చూపిస్తూనే స్థానిక రాజకీయాలను తెరపైకి తీసుకొచ్చారు. ఆయా పొలిటికల్‌ సీన్లలో పెద్దగా సంఘర్షణ కనిపించదు.

నిరక్షరాస్యుడైన పెద్దాయన చెప్పులు అరిగేలా తిరుగుతుంటే లోలోపల న్యాయం చేయాలనున్నా పైకి మాత్రం శివ అందుకు భిన్నంగా ప్రవరిస్తాడు. సంబంధిత షాట్‌ గమనిస్తే.. తనకు ఆసక్తికర ఫ్లాష్‌బ్యాక్‌ ఉందని అర్థమవుతుంది. తల్లి సెంటిమెంట్‌ను ఎలివేట్‌ చేస్తూ శివ గతాన్ని చూపించిన తీరు మెప్పిస్తుంది. పలు సందర్భాల్లో తన తల్లికి జరిగిన అవమానం వల్లే తాను అలా ప్రవరిస్తున్నాడా?ఇంకేదైనా కారణం ఉందా? అనేదానికి సీజన్‌ 2లోనే సరైన సమాధానం దొరుకుతుందేమో. రాజకీయ నాయకుల నిర్లక్ష్యం వల్లే తన తాత చనిపోయాడని ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేసినందుకు కోపోద్రిక్తుడైన ఓ వ్యక్తి బాలిక చేతిని కాలుస్తాడు. సంబంధిత ఘటన గురించి బాలిక వివరించగా శివ న్యాయం చేస్తాడనే ప్రేక్షకులు ఆశిస్తారు. కానీ, దర్శకుడు ట్విస్ట్‌ ఇచ్చి.. మరోసారి అసలు శివ ఎందుకు అలా ప్రవర్తిస్తున్నాడో తెలుసుకోవాలనే ఉత్సుకత పెంచారు. సీరియస్‌ మూడ్‌లోనే తీసుకెళ్లకుండా అప్పుడప్పుడూ శివ- నీల మధ్య రొమాంటిక్‌ కోణాల్ని ఆవిష్కరించారు. ఇద్దరి మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. అయితే, మరో నాయికా పాత్రను జోడించి ట్రయాంగిల్‌ లవ్‌స్టోరీగా చూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. పోలీసు అధికారి పాత్ర రాకతో సిరీస్‌ మరింత ఆసక్తికరంగా మారుతుంది. తన ఊరి నుంచి వేరే ఊరికి ఆ అధికారిని ట్రాన్స్‌ఫర్‌ చేయించే ప్రయత్నం చేయాలనుకున్న శివ గెలిచాడా? అప్పటి వరకు స్నేహంగా ఉన్న మీడియా మిత్రుడే నీలను ఎందుకు సమస్యల్లో చిక్కుకొనేలా చేశాడు? ఇలాంటి ప్రశ్నలన్నింటికీ జవాబు చెప్పకుండా సీజన్‌ 1ని ముగించి.. సీజన్‌ 2 కోసం ఎదురుచూసేలా చేశారు (newsense web series review). 

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే: రిపోర్టర్‌ శివ పాత్ర కోసం నవదీప్‌ పడిన శ్రమ తెరపై స్పష్టంగా కనిపిస్తుంది. నెగెటివ్‌ షేడ్స్‌ ఉన్న ఆ క్యారెక్టర్‌కు పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశాడు. చిత్తూరు యాసతో ఆకట్టుకుంటాడు. స్క్రీన్‌ స్పేస్‌ తక్కువే అయినా బిందు మాధవి తన నటనతో అలరిస్తుంది. ఇతరులు తమ తమ పాత్రలకు న్యాయం చేశారు. సన్నివేశానికి తగ్గట్టు సురేశ్‌ బొబ్బిలి అందించిన నేపథ్య సంగీతం బాగుంది. మదనపల్లి వాతావరణాన్ని చూపించడంలో సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్లు మంచి మార్కులు కొట్టేశారు. పలు సీన్లను ఎడిట్‌ చేస్తే బాగుండేది. జయసింహ రాసిన ‘న్యూస్‌ రాసే వాడి చేతిలోనే చరిత్ర ఉంటుంది’లాంటి సంభాషణలు మెప్పిస్తాయి. ‘గాయం 2’, ‘కాళిచరణ్‌’ తదితర సినిమాను తెరకెక్కించిన శ్రీప్రవీణ్‌ కుమార్‌ ఈ సిరీస్‌తో తన దారి ప్రత్యేకమైందని నిరూపించారు (newsense web series review).

Newsense Web Series Review: All the MLA’s men

In the pilot episode of Newsense , you see an old couple approach a senior reporter at the Press Club of Madanapalle to share their grievances against their land getting usurped by goons. The reporter assures them that their issue will be brought to light in the papers. One immediately anticipates the following scene or the resultant pay-off to be about the old couple getting justice, thanks to the help of the just and altruistic fourth estate. But this sort of assumption, on par with most of the stories set in the world of journalism earlier, is not only quashed by the makers of Newsense but also completely turned upside down. The treatment of this one particular subplot also holds true for the series at large.

Newsense actually lives up to the premise and the promise it presents its viewers with, as we witness the story’s unabashedly grey tonalities hit home and ring deep. Telugu cinema has particularly found ethical ambiguity hard to crack, with its audiences often getting shortchanged with portrayals of its grey, anti-hero protagonists. Think of Nani in Mohan Krishna Indraganti’s V, or more recently, Ravi Teja’s character in Sudheer Varma’s Ravanasura . The purportedly satanic disposition of these characters is swiftly undone by a tragic backstory to anticlimactic effect, with a thoroughly risk-averse treatment opted in order to not alienate its viewers too much.

Newsense , an OTT endeavour, is a refreshing departure on multiple levels. There are no preachy, moralising positions ever taken in the series, but its takeaways and clapbacks, on who is wrong and who is wronged, are crystal clear. One is also bound to assume that the dark portrayal of journalists in Newsense will feed to certain confirmation bias, only to receive a humbling surprise through its subversive storytelling.

Unlike most journalism stories, Newsense rarely incorporates certain newsroom-isms into its storytelling. There is no B-Roll of newspapers being printed or cameras being adjusted, so to speak. In fact, the motley bunch of journalists in the series don’t even belong to the same media organisation. A good chunk of the story takes place in the press club of Madanapalle, a small town in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, their adda that also doubles up as an epicenter of their less-than-ethical activities. The story uses journalism as a lens (pun intended) to unflinchingly zoom in and out of the various power-brokers of this particular region. One is tempted to paraphrase Hamlet after watching practically every character embody a flawed personality…“Something is rotten in the town of Madanapalle.” 

At the heart of Newsense lies Shiva (Navdeep), a man whose conscience rarely emerges to the fore. His traumatic past has made him internalise the tenets of adavi neethi (Law of the Jungle) into his outlook, firmly believing that one who does not prey has no choice but to get preyed upon. The victims of the series, be it a woman searching for her missing husband or a girl with a hand burned by a politician for vandalising their party’s cutout, remain as victims from start to finish, as a stark reminder of the comatose conscience of the journalists in the series, and the way they shirk their responsibilities in favour of protecting their status quo. There is a recurring visual of the series’ five reporters exchanging envelopes of money for their unethical deeds. It reminds you so much of Chiranjeevi’s “ lancham, lancham, lancham ” monologue from the penultimate court scene in Tagore (2003). Not remaining too far behind in its subtextualisation, we do get to see a poster of Tagore at a tea stall in Newsense , along with some other era-appropriate references to the Mega Star (the series is set in the early 2000s). 

Writer Priyadarshini Ram, director Sri Prawin Kumar and cinematographers Anantnag Kavuri, Vedaraman and Prasanna jointly adopt a documentary style to tell the story of Newsense , which makes the story all the more effective. Newsense ’s biggest strength is its depiction of Madanapalle, the town really comes alive as the series’ second protagonist after Shiva. Beyond the Rayalaseema setting and one off-hand reference to red sandalwood, the series brings flashbacks from Pushpa: The Rise in a big way as we see SI Edwin, a righteous cop, and an outsider to boot, enter the scene in the latter portions of the series. Unlike Pushpa , where you root for Pushparaj and not Shekawat, the entry of Edwin brings you relief, as he sets ahead to make things right, angering everybody, most of all the journalists. 

The series’s biggest undoing is also one of its many smaller merits. Newsense never sticks to the format of a limited series, as we see many threads hang loose. The viewers never get the closure they are supposed to get in a series. There are too many questions, all of which are hastily tied up and shut tight in its last episode. But considering how the makers of the series have already shot most of the second season along with the first season, I am inclined to give a certain benefit of the doubt and look forward to how things shape up. Here’s me hoping that the dots Newsense has neatly etched in its first season are deftly joined in its second.

ప్రస్తుతం ప్రముఖ ఓటిటి మాధ్యమం ఆహా లో పలు సిరీస్ లు అలానే సినిమాలు ఆడియన్స్ ని ఎప్పటికప్పుడు ఆకట్టుకుంటూ మంచి ఎంటర్టైన్మెంట్ ని అందిస్తున్నాయి. ఇక తాజాగా నవదీప్, బిందు మాధవి జంటగా యాక్షన్ థ్రిల్లింగ్ అంశాలతో తెరకెక్కిన న్యూసెన్స్ అనే వెబ్ సిరీస్ ఆహా ఆడియన్స్ ముందుకి వచ్చింది. మరి దీని సమీక్ష ఇప్పుడు చూద్దాం.

ఈ మూవీ 2000 సంవత్సరంలో మదనపల్లె ప్రెస్ క్లబ్ లో కొందరు ఫ్రీ లాన్స్ జర్నలిస్టుల తో ప్రారంభం అవుతుంది. అక్కడి స్థానిక రాజకీయ నాయకుల నుండి ముడుపులు తీసుకుని వాస్తవాలని దాచిపెట్టి వారు అవాస్తవాలు రాస్తుంటారు. వారిలో శివ (నవదీప్) ఒక ఫ్రీ లాన్స్ జర్నలిస్ట్ గా పనిచేస్తుంటాడు. అవతలి వారు ఎంత ఇబ్బందిపడిన డబ్బులకోసం అతడు తప్పుడు వార్తలు మాత్రమే రాస్తూనే ఉంటాడు. అయితే అతను స్థానిక న్యూస్ ఛానల్ రిపోర్టర్ నీల (బిందు మాధవి)కి మాత్రం తలవంచుతాడు. అంతా సజావుగానే సాగుతుంది అనుకున్న సమయంలో మధనపల్లె కి చెందిన ఎస్సై ఎడ్విన్ (నంద గోపాల్) ఆ ఫ్రీ లాన్స్ జర్నలిస్టుల వలన తలనొప్పులు ఎదుర్కొంటూ ఉంటాడు. మరి ఆ తరువాత ఏమి జరిగింది, వారిని అతడు పట్టుకున్నాడా లేదా అనేది మొత్తం న్యూసెన్స్ సీజన్ 1 లో చూడాల్సిందే.

ప్లస్ పాయింట్స్ :

ఈ స్టోరీ కోసం తీసుకున్న బేసిక్ అయితే ఎంతో బాగుంది. అటువంటి సెన్సిటివ్ టాపిక్ ని తీసుకుని కథని రాసుకోవడం నిజంగా గ్రేట్. ఈ సిరీస్ లో కొన్ని కీలక సన్నివేశాలు జర్నలిజం మీడియాలోని కొన్ని చీకటి కోణాల్ని బాగా చూపిస్తుంది. ఇక మరికొన్ని సీన్స్ అయితే ఆడియన్స్ ని షాక్ కి గురి చేస్తాయి. ఏ విధంగా కొందరు రాజకీయ నాయకులు జర్నలిస్టులని మీడియాని తమ స్వార్ధం కోసం వాడుకుంటున్నారు అనేది చూడవచ్చు. నవదీప్ తన పాత్రలో ఎంతో పవర్ఫుల్ గా నటించడంతో పాటు సహజ నటన కనబరిచాడు. నిజానికి అటువంటి పాత్ర చేయడం అంత సులువు కాదు. కానీ అతడు కొన్ని సీన్స్ లో మరింతగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. నటి బిందు మాధవికి తక్కువగా స్క్రీన్ టైం ఉన్నప్పటికీ కూడా ఉన్నంతలో తను బాగా పెర్ఫార్మ్ చేసింది. ఎస్సై నందగోపాల్ గా ఎంట్రీ ఇచ్చిన ఎడ్విన్ పాత్ర కూడా ఎంతో ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్ గా ఉంటుంది. ఈ సీజన్ లో అతడిని స్క్రీన్ టైం తక్కువే ఉన్నప్పటికీ వ్యంగ్యంతో కూడిన తన నటనతో బాగా ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. ఇక ఇతర పాత్రధారులు కూడా అలరించారు.

మైనస్ పాయింట్స్ :

మంచి కథ ఉన్నప్పటికి దానిని ఆడియన్స్ కి కనెక్ట్ చేసేలా కథనం రాసుకోవడంలో ఈ సిరీస్ యొక్క దర్శకుడు కొంత విఫలం అయ్యారు అనే చెప్పాలి. మరింత గ్రిప్పింగ్ గా స్క్రీన్ ప్లే రాసుకుని ఉంటె బాగుండేదనిపిస్తుంది. చాలా సీన్స్ ల్యాగ్ గా అనిపిస్తాయి. అలానే కథనం చాలా చోట్ల నెమ్మదిస్తుంది. ఈ న్యూసెన్స్ సిరీస్ పేపర్ లో రాసుకున్న పరంగా బాగున్నా, దానిని స్క్రీన్ పై ఆడియన్స్ కి ఆకట్టుకునేలా మాత్రం లేదు. కథ యొక్క ప్రారంభంలోనే ఫ్రీ లాన్స్ జర్నలిస్టులు డబ్బుల కోసం ఎథిక్స్ లేకుండా ఎంత దారుణంగా వర్క్ చేస్తారు అనేటువంటి ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్ సీన్స్ చూపించేసారు. ఆ తరువాత చాలా సన్నివేశాలు ఆకట్టుకోవు. సెకండ్ హాఫ్ లో వచ్చే కొన్ని సీన్స్ మాత్రం ఇంట్రెస్టింగ్ గానే ఉంటాయి. మొత్తంగా దీనిని రెండు సీజన్స్ గా రిలీజ్ చేయాలనుకున్న మేకర్స్, ఫస్ట్ సీజన్ తో మాత్రం డిజప్పాయింట్ చేసారు. దానితో సెకండ్ సీజన్ పై పెద్దగా ఆసక్తి ఏర్పడదు. ఇక కథ ఉన్నంత బలంగా కథనం బలంగా లేకపోవడం పెద్ద మైనస్.

సాంకేతిక వర్గం :

సురేష్ బొబ్బిలి బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ బాగుంది. అనంతనాగ్ కావూరి, వేదరామన్, ప్రసన్న సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ చక్కగా ఉంది. కిరణ్ మామిడి యొక్క ఆర్ట్ వర్క్ 2000 ల కాలాన్ని చాలా చక్కగా ప్రతిబింబిస్తుంది. ప్రొడక్షన్ వాల్యూస్ బాగున్నాయి. అనవసరమైన ల్యాగ్ ని తొలగించడానికి ఎడిటింగ్ టీమ్ మరింత కృషి చేసి ఉండాల్సింది. ఇక దర్శకుడు శ్రీ ప్రవీణ్ విషయానికి వస్తే అతడు కేవలం పర్వాలేదనిపంచే అవుట్ పుట్ మాత్రమే ఆడించగలిగారు. ప్రియదర్శి రామ్ కథలో స్పార్క్ ఉంది, కానీ అతని స్క్రీన్ ప్లేలో పంచ్ లేదు. దర్శకుడు మరియు స్క్రీన్‌ప్లే రచయిత కథనంపై మరింత పని చేసి ఉంటే బాగుండేది ఉండేది. ఇక డైలాగ్స్ నీట్ గా రాసారు, కొన్ని అయితే ఆలోచింపజేసేలా ఉన్నాయి.

మొత్తంగా అయితే న్యూసెన్స్ సీజన్ 1 పాక్షికంగా మాత్రమే ఆడియన్స్ ని ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. నటుడు నవదీప్ పెర్ఫార్మన్స్, కొన్ని కీలక సీన్స్ మాత్రమే బాగుంటాయి. కథనం ఆకట్టుకోకపోవడంతో చాలా వరకు సిరీస్ బోరింగ్ గా అనిపిస్థాయి. ఇక ఎండింగ్ కూడా పెద్దగా ఆకట్టుకోదు. మేకర్స్ బాగానే ప్రయత్నించినప్పటికీ కూడా ఓవరాల్ గా మాత్రం న్యూసెన్స్ వెబ్ సిరీస్ సీజన్ 1 కేవలం పర్వాలేదు అని మాత్రమే అనిపిస్తుంది మనకి.

Newsense Web Series: What's Behind

Bindu Madhavi, Navadeep's Newsense webseries is generating immense interest as it is inspired by the real-life happenings in the world of stringers in the Madanapalle Press Club in Andhra Pradesh in the early 90s. The webseries trailer and teaser got a good response and it is streaming on Aha Video. Let us find out how Newsense excited movie lovers.

Newsense: Story Review

Newsense story highlighted how the press and the journalists functioned in the 80s. It is all about the real-life happenings around four decades back in Madanapalle, Hyderabad. Shiva (Navadeep) is a reporter associated with the Press Club, Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh. People of Madanapalle trust the media and come to them for solutions to their problems as their last resort.

To find out how Shiva solved them and how TV anchor Neela (Bindu Madhavi) , a college friend of Shiva connected to it and the latest developments, watch Newsense.

Newsense: Artists Review

Navadeep is good in the role of the reporter. He showed intensity in his eyes and showed the right kind of body language. But at times he turned expressionless and at other times he came with a single expression. Bindu Madhavi is ok in her role as a TV reporter. Others performed according to their roles.

Newsense: Technical Review

Newsense story penned by journalist Priyadarshini Ram and Sri Pravin is inspired by real-life incidents. He tried to show how the media functioned during the 70s-90s. The narration starts in an interesting manner but from then on Sri Pravin loses steam as he drags each and every scene in his quest to highlight each and every character and episode. There are six episodes in the webseries and none of the episodes have any interesting twists and turns.

One gets a feeling that Sri Pravin got carried away with the happenings in the 80s that he tried to narrate each and every minute detail and this dragged the film and with no real twists and turns the narration turned routine. Screenplay and direction turned routine and monotonous and within minutes into the story, viewers will lose interest.

Suresh Bobbili's background music is ok and is in sync with the story. The cinematography of Anant Nag Kavuri captured the village atmosphere in a beautiful and realistic way. He showed the village atmosphere quite well. Srinivas Baiynaboyina's editing left a lot to be desired. There are lot of drags and repetitive scenes and this slowed the pace of the narration and ended up testing the patience of the viewers. Dialogues penned by Jayasimha are natural and ok.  Production values of TG. Vishwa Prasad's People Media Factory is ok.

Altogether, the Newsense webseries is a routine political drama with a rural backdrop. The premise selected by Sri Pravin generated interest and the presence of Navadeep and Bindu Madhavi increased the curiosity. Though Sri Pravin tried to expose the nexus of politicians and the media and other influential parties, he failed to increase the intensity. The. lackluster screenplay and direction and no real twists and turns in the script ended up irritating viewers. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 1.5 rating to Newsense.

తెలుగులో మీడియా బ్యాక్‌డ్రాప్‌లో చాలా త‌క్కువ‌గా సినిమాలు, సిరీస్‌లు వ‌చ్చాయి. రిలీజ్‌కు ముందు నుంచే న్యూసెన్స్ సిరీస్ ప‌ట్ల టాలీవుడ్ ప్రేక్ష‌కుల్లో ఆస‌క్తి నెల‌కొన‌డానికి అదొక ప్ర‌ధాన కార‌ణ‌మైంది.

మ‌ద‌న‌ప‌ల్లి ప్రాంతంలో 1990 టైమ్‌లో జ‌రిగిన కొన్ని వాస్త‌వ ఘ‌ట‌న‌ల నుంచి స్ఫూర్తి పొందుతూ ఈ సిరీస్ క‌థ‌ను రాసుకున్న‌ట్లు ప్ర‌మోష‌న్స్‌లో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు తెలిపాడు. ప్రాంతాన్ని మార్చ‌కుండా మ‌ద‌న‌ప‌ల్లి నేప‌థ్యంలోనే సిరీస్‌ను న‌డిపించ‌డం ప్ల‌స్స‌యింది. . ప్ర‌ధాన పాత్ర‌ధారుల డైలాగ్స్ మొత్తం చిత్తూరు యాస‌లోనే వినిపిస్తుంటాయి.

నాచుర‌ల్ డైలాగ్స్‌తో క‌థ‌లో లీన‌మ‌య్యేలా చేశాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. హీరో నిరంత‌రం హీరో ఏదో సంఘ‌ర్ష‌ణ‌లో క‌నిపించ‌డం, లోప‌ల మంచిత‌నం ఉన్నా దానికి ముసుగు వేస్తూ బ‌త‌క‌డానికి చేసే పోరాటం చుట్టూ అల్లుకున్న సీన్స్ బాగున్నాయి. ఈ మీడియా క‌థ‌లో అంత‌ర్లీనంగా మ‌ద‌ర్ సెంటిమెంట్ చూపించిన‌ తీరు మెప్పించింది. మీడియా నేప‌థ్యం ఒక్క‌టే కాకుండా పాల‌కుల‌ను న‌మ్మి ప్ర‌భుత్వ అధికారులు, ప్ర‌జ‌లు ఎలా మోస‌పోతుంటారో సందేశాత్మ‌కంగా ఈ సిరీస్‌లో చూపించారు.

ఆరు ఎపిసోడ్స్‌తో న్యూసెన్స్ ఫ‌స్ట్ సీజ‌న్‌ను న‌డిపించారు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌. క‌థ మొద‌లైన తీరు బాగున్నా...చివ‌రి వ‌ర‌కు అదే ఇంటెన్సిటీతో న‌డినిపించ‌లేక‌పోయారు. ఒకే పాయింట్ చుట్టూ తిరుగుతున్న అనుభూతి క‌లుగుతుంది. హీరో క్యారెక్ట‌ర్ ద్వారా ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు ఏం చెప్పాల‌నుకుంటున్న‌డ‌న్న‌దానిలో క్లారిటీ మిస్స‌యింది.

రిపీటెడ్ సీన్స్ వ‌చ్చి ఇబ్బందిపెడుతుంటాయి. పొలిటిక‌ల్ సీన్స్‌లో డ్రామా స‌రిగా పండ‌లేదు. శివ‌, బిందుమాధ‌వి త‌ప్ప మిగిలిన పాత్ర‌ధారుల యాక్టింగ్ చాలా చోట్ల ఆర్టిఫిషియ‌ల్‌గా ఉంది. ఎస్ఐ ఎడ్విన్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్ ఎంట‌రైన త‌ర్వాతే సిరీస్ కాస్త ఆస‌క్తిక‌రంగా మారింది. ఫ‌స్ట్ సీజ‌న్ ఎండింగ్ కూడా ప్రాప‌ర్‌గా లేదు. సెకండ్ సీజ‌న్ ప‌ట్ల క్యూరియాసిటీ రేకెత్తించే పాయింట్ ఒక్క‌టి క‌నిపించ‌లేదు.

న‌వ‌దీప్ నాచుర‌ల్‌ యాక్టింగ్ ...

శివ అనే జ‌ర్న‌లిస్ట్‌గా సీరియ‌స్‌గా సాగే పాత్ర‌లో న‌వ‌దీప్ యాక్టింగ్ బాగుంది. సినిమాల్లో చేసిన పాత్ర‌ల‌కు భిన్నంగా కొత్త‌గా క‌నిపించాడు. ఇంటెన్స్ రోల్‌లో ఒదిగిపోయాడు. లీలాగా బిందుమాధ‌వి పాత్ర‌కు ఫ‌స్ట్ సీజ‌న్‌లో పెద్ద‌గా ఇంపార్టెన్స్ లేదు. శివ ఫ్రెండ్స్ యాక్టింగ్, వారి డైలాగ్స్ కొన్ని చోట్ల ఆక‌ట్టుకున్నాయి.

న్యూసెన్స్ టైటిల్‌కు త‌గ్గ‌ట్లుగానే అర్థం, ప‌ర్థం లేకుండా ఆరు ఎపిసోడ్స్‌తో సిరీస్‌ను సాగ‌దీసిన ఫీలింగ్ క‌లిగింది. చిత్తూరు నేప‌థ్యం, యాస‌తో పాటు న‌వ‌దీప్ యాక్టింగ్ ఈ సిరీస్‌లో పెద్ద రిలీఫ్‌గా చెప్ప‌వ‌చ్చు. రాత బాగున్నా తీత‌లోనే చాలా లోపాలు క‌నిపించాయి.

Newsense review: Navdeep, Bindu Madhavi excel in a nail-biting drama centring on rural politics

Sri Prawin Kumar’s gripping narrative is complemented by commendable performances, top-notch cinematography and music score

Shiva is a streetsmart journalist in Madanapalli, who manipulates events in and around his village for monetary benefits. He is in love with another local journo Neela and cleverly rises the ranks while staying in the good books of two local leaders - Nagi Reddy, Karunakar Reddy. While Shiva’s conscience keeps haunting him now and then, his survival instincts get the better of him. When a new SI Edwin enters the town, Shiva’s life is set to undergo a drastic change.

Rayalaseema is among the many regions that have been mischievously stereotyped, reduced to a backdrop for faction wars in mainstream Telugu cinema over the years. There’ve only been a handful of attempts to challenge that perception. If Allu Arjun’s Pushpa was a welcome step in that direction, aha’s latest show Newsense, set in Madanapalli, too makes a conscious effort to stay true to the spirit of the soil and doesn’t use heroism as an excuse to glorify violence.

Newsense is, in fact, a refreshing attempt at decoding the dark truths beneath the media-political nexus in small towns. Priyadarshini Ram, the writer, creates a web of complex characters that can’t be slotted as black or white and instead he highlights the circumstances under which they’re forced to take their decisions. Neither does the show try to glorify nor undermine the police force, the media or politicians but it merely tries to provide a holistic picture of grassroots problems.

The protagonist Shiva, a media person, isn’t a hero by any means - he doesn’t try to be a saviour and is satisfied with his survival. While he has a clear understanding of right and wrong, he prefers to be wise, even if it means manipulating people and suppressing the truth. In short, he’s a politician at heart but a journalist by profession. The show goes back and forth between his past and present to explain his behaviour.

The six-episode series doesn’t offer easy solutions and looks at multiple layers, and perspectives to every situation - common man, media, cops and politicians. As a viewer, you empathise with the woes of the ordinary folk and the treatment is quite believable. Be it the elderly man who loses his life with the unavailability of a bus or the farmer who fights for his land illegally occupied by miscreants or the woman who keeps searching for her missing husband, you root for them.

Even though there are several events and subplots, the narration doesn’t lose direction and the director Sri Prawin Kumar adopts an understated, matter-of-factly approach in his execution. While there’s no preaching in most scenarios, Prawin uses Jayasimha’s dialogues to good effect and makes a viewer introspect on issues without spoon-feeding the obvious.

If the first four episodes set a strong foundation for the drama, the final set of episodes leaves you with a great aftertaste and a perfect hook for the next season. With the arrival of a newly appointed cop in the fifth episode, the cherries on the cake are the cinematic highs that the creator generates out of the character’s ego clashes with the natives (although the no-nonsense attitude reminds you of the Fahadh Faasil act in Pushpa).

Without diluting the drama and the tension around the rural politics, there’s enough space to breathe with the raw humour in the Chittoor slang, focusing on the little pleasures of the residents. The romance segments between Navdeep, and Bindu Madhavi are written flavourfully with an element of mischief. The creators hint at a romantic triangle in the coming season, but this is still good fun while it lasts.

While Jayasimha, Priyadarshini Ram, and Sri Prawin take care of the basics - the writing, the treatment and the conviction in the storytelling - the true surprise package is the visual finesse. In a rare scenario for a Telugu web show, the makers employ three cinematographers (Anantnag Kavuri, Vedaraman, Prasanna) and the result is surprisingly consistent and stunning. Exquisite framing and smart lighting, aesthetic sense in a variety of backdrops elevate simple sequences to great heights.

Suresh Bobbili is in fine form with the background score, he doesn’t try to overpower the situation and understands the mood of the show well. The only song in Newsense - a laidback romance track Myneeru Pillagada (sung superbly by Hari Teja) - arrives quite unexpectedly and Navdeep-Bindu Madhavi’s terrific chemistry beautifies it further.

Navdeep gets a tailormade role with several grey shades (that he embraces with aplomb) and is quite convincing as a shrewd small-town journo. Bindu Madhavi is a natural as a quirky yet ambitious television presenter and her classy costume styling contributes to the appeal of the show. Beyond the big names, it’s the supporting cast that holds the show together - Nanda Gopal, Katta Anthony, Shelly Nabu Kumar are spectacular in their brief segments. Nalla Sreedhar Reddy, Mahima Srinivas, Venkataramana Ayyagari and others make an impact too.

Newsense is a classy, well-made show that sets a tall standard for quality storytelling in the Telugu OTT space. From the dialogues to the screenplay, performances and the execution with terrific technical finesse, the team does complete justice to the material. There’s every reason for us to look forward to the second season of this Sri Prawin Kumar directorial.

OTT Watchlist: 'Newsense' Proves To Be Intense

When people think of journalism, they often associate it with bringing the truth to the world after verifying all the facts.

However, in the series Newsense, Shiva, a reporter from Republic TV (played by Navdeep), expects "respect" from others in his job. This raises the question of what happens when journalists abuse their authority and respect to hide the larger truth.

The show, directed by Sri Prawin Kumar, delves into the world of political journalism in Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, from the early 90s to 2000.

The storyline, based on real events witnessed by senior Telugu journalist Priyadarshini Ram, exposes the efforts of journalists to conceal the unsavory side of politics from the public.

The series presents a nuanced view of the issues, painting a world of corrupt politicians, dishonest media, corrupt police, and innocent civilians in shades of grey.

The show intertwines various narratives, including a love story and the involvement of Ishaan in an extremist group.

It raises questions about what is more important for a reporter: the truth or doing the right thing? Shiva, who is shaped by his upbringing and the way society treats him, is often unsure about whether to reveal the truth or make ethical/moral compromises.

Bindu Madhavi delivers a measured performance as Neela, a political journalist, who maintains a commanding screen presence and adds depth to the storyline.

Navdeep's portrayal of Shiva as an ethically ambiguous journalist is compelling, and the romance between Shiva and Neela adds heartwarming moments to the narrative. The rest of the cast also plays their parts well.

Despite the flaws, the show sheds light on the issues that existed in the 90s and early 2000s and continue to persist today.

The captivating background score by Suresh Bobbili contributes to the larger story, and the show leaves the audience wondering how the long-standing romanticization of political journalism will be addressed.

In summary, Newsense lifts the curtain on the grim reality of political journalism, exposing the harsh truths that still exist today.

న్యూస్, న్యూసెస్... ఈ రెండు పదాల మధ్య వ్యత్యాసం చాలా ఉంది. న్యూస్ రాసే జర్నలిస్టులు న్యూసెస్ క్రియేట్ చేస్తే? ఈ నేపథ్యంలో రూపొందిన సిరీస్ ఆహా ఓటీటీలో స్ట్రీమింగ్ అవుతోంది. నవదీప్ (Navdeep), బిందు మాధవి జంటగా నటించారు. ఈ సిరీస్  ఎలా ఉందంటే? (Newsense AHA web series review)

కథ (Newsense Web Series Story) : మదనపల్లిలో శివ (నవదీప్) జర్నలిస్ట్. అతని ప్రేయసి నీల (బిందు మాధవి) కూడా జర్నలిస్టే. ఆ ఏరియాలో జర్నలిస్టులంతా కలిసి ఓ గ్రూపుగా ఏర్పడతారు. రాజకీయ నాయకుల దగ్గర డబ్బులు తీసుకుని వార్తలు రాస్తుంటారు. భూకబ్జాలు, మిస్సింగ్ కేసులు, నాటు తుపాకుల దందా... ఏ విషయంలో అయినా సరే వాస్తవాలను దాచి, డబ్బుకు దాసోహం అంటూ నచ్చిన వార్తలు రాయడమే వృత్తిగా పెట్టుకుంటారు. అందువల్ల, ఎవరెవరికి అన్యాయం జరిగింది? ఎస్సై ఎడ్విన్ (నంద గోపాల్) రాకతో జర్నలిస్టులు ఎటువంటి సమస్యలు ఎదుర్కొన్నారు? అంతకు ముందు శివపై దాడి చేసింది ఎవరు? శివ గతం ఏమిటి? అనేది సిరీస్ చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి. 

విశ్లేషణ (Newsense AHA Review) : మదనపల్లి నేపథ్యంలో 'న్యూసెన్స్' తీశారు. అయితే, చూస్తున్నంత సేపు 'మన ఊరిలోనూ ఈ విధంగా జరిగింది' అనుకునేలా సన్నివేశాలను రూపొందించారు. అదీ 'న్యూసెస్' ప్రత్యేకత! సమాజంలో మంచి, చెడు ఉన్నట్లు... జర్నలిస్టుల్లోనూ రెండు రకాలు ఉండొచ్చు. 'న్యూసెన్స్'లో, ఈ సీజన్ వరకూ కేవలం గ్రే షేడ్స్ మాత్రమే చూపించారు. అదీ చాలా సహజంగా తీశారు.

'న్యూసెస్' ప్రారంభమే సిరీస్ చూడటం స్టార్ట్ చేసిన వీక్షకుల్ని మదనపల్లిలోకి తీసుకు వెళుతుంది. మన ఏరియాలో జరుగుతున్న తీరును మన కళ్ళ ముందు ఆవిష్కరిస్తున్నట్లు అనిపిస్తుంది. కెమెరా వర్క్, ఆర్ట్ డైరెక్షన్, సురేష్ బొబ్బిలి నేపథ్య సంగీతం అంత చక్కగా ఉన్నాయి. ప్రొడక్షన్ డిజైన్ & వేల్యూస్ చాలా బావున్నాయి. ఒక్కో ఎపిసోడ్ ఆసక్తి కలిగించడానికి కారణం టెక్నికల్ సపోర్ట్ మాత్రమే కాదు... రైటింగ్ మెయిన్ రీజన్!

కథగా చూస్తే 'న్యూసెన్స్' సిరీస్ అసంపూర్తిగా ముగుస్తుంది. అసలు కథ ఇంకా మొదలు కానే కాలేదు. కేవలం పాత్రలను, పరిస్థితులను మాత్రమే పరిచయం చేశారు. కొన్నిచోట్ల నిడివి ఎక్కువైన, సన్నివేశాలను సాగదీస్తున్న ఫీలింగ్ కలుగుతుంది. అయినా సరే తర్వాత ఏం జరుగుతుంది? అని చూసేలా చేసిన ఘనత నటీనటులది, మరీ ముఖ్యంగా రచయితది!

'న్యూసెస్'లో క్యారెక్టర్లు చాలా ఉన్నాయ్! వాటిని ఎస్టాబ్లిష్ చేయడానికి రచయిత ప్రియదర్శిని రామ్ టైమ్ తీసుకున్నారు. కానీ, ఒక్కో పాత్రకూ ఒక్కో కథను క్రియేట్ చేశారు. ఉదాహరణకు... రాజకీయ నాయకుల నుంచి అందరూ శివతో ఆప్యాయంగా మాట్లాడతారు. అఫ్ కోర్స్... భయానికి, గౌరవానికి మధ్య అతనితో చెప్పించారు. జర్నలిస్ట్ కాబట్టి భయపడుతున్నారని! అదే సమయంలో శివ తల్లిని చులకనగా చూస్తారు. కుమారుడిని ఆస్పత్రికి తీసుకువెళితే డబ్బులు లేక వైద్యునికి లైంగిక సుఖం అందించడానికి అంగీకరిస్తుందామె! ఇంకో సందర్భంలో సరైన ఇల్లు లేదని పెళ్ళాం చేత తిట్లు తింటున్న తోటి జర్నలిస్ట్ కోసం భూ కబ్జా అవకాశాన్ని శివ తమకు అనుకూలంగా ఉపయోగించుకుంటాడు. రెండొందల కోసం ఓ మహిళకు అక్రమ సంబంధం అంతకడుతూ న్యూస్ రాస్తాడొకడు. అవన్నీ చూస్తే అవసరం కోసం దారులు తొక్కే పాత్రలు తప్ప హీరోలు, విలన్లు లేరీ నాటకంలో అనిపిస్తుంది. 

'న్యూసెన్స్'లోకి తొంగి చూస్తే... ప్రతి పాత్ర వెనుక బరువైన భావోద్వేగం ఉంటుంది. భూ కబ్జాలు, హత్యలు, ఎత్తుకు పైఎత్తు వేసే రాజకీయ నాయకుల క్రీడ... ఇలా చాలా పలు అంశాలను స్పృశించారు. నేటివిటీకి దగ్గరగా సిరీస్ తెరకెక్కించిన దర్శకుడు, నిడివి విషయంలో ఇంకా జాగ్రత్త  వహిస్తే బావుండేది. అసలు కథలోకి వెళ్లకుండా కేవలం క్యారెక్టర్స్ ఇంట్రడ్యూస్ చేసి వదిలేయడం మెయిన్ మైనస్. 

నటీనటులు ఎలా చేశారు? : నవదీప్ మంచి నటుడు. సరైన క్యారెక్టర్ పడితే ఎంత అద్భుతంగా చేస్తాడనేది చెప్పడానికి 'న్యూసెన్స్' మంచి ఉదాహరణ. చాలా సీన్లలో కళ్ళతో నటించారు. పైకి ఫ్రీగా ఉంటున్నా... తల్లి విషయంలో మనకు తెలిసిన ఓ ఆలోచన అతని మనసులో ఉందని కొన్ని సన్నివేశాల్లో చక్కగా చూపించారు. రెండో సీజన్ చూస్తే... తల్లీ కొడుకుల మధ్య అనుబంధం, భావోద్వేగ ప్రయాణం మరింత ఉండొచ్చు. తల్లిగా షెల్లీ నబు కుమార్ నటన ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. 

బిందు మాధవి స్క్రీన్ టైమ్ తక్కువ. కానీ, పాత్రకు పర్ఫెక్ట్ యాప్ట్! నవదీప్, బిందు మాధవి మధ్య కెమిస్ట్రీ చక్కగా కుదిరింది. వీళ్లిద్దరికీ తోడు మహిమా శ్రీనివాస్ కూడా తోడు కావడంతో సీజన్ 2లో ట్రయాంగిల్ లవ్ స్టోరీ చూడొచ్చు! ఎడ్విన్ పాత్రలో ప్రేక్షకులకు గుర్తుండేలా నంద గోపాల్ నటించారు. అయ్యప్ప పాత్రలో కట్టా ఆంటోనీ కూడా! మిగతా నటీనటులు కూడా చక్కగా చేశారు.

చివరగా చెప్పేది ఏంటంటే? : 'న్యూసెస్'... నేటివిటీకి దగ్గరగా, మన ఊరిలో కథను చూసినట్టు అనిపించే సిరీస్. సహజత్వంతో కూడిన నవదీప్, బిందు మాధవి, నంద గోపాల్ నటన ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. అసలు కథను దాచి సిరీస్ అసంపూర్తిగా శుభం కార్డు వేయడం కాస్త అసంతృప్తిని మిగులుస్తుంది. అయితే, పిక్చర్ అభీ బాకీ హై దోస్త్! 

జర్నలిస్ట్ శివ, పోలీస్ ఎడ్విన్ మధ్య పోరు ఎలా ఉండబోతుంది? రేణుక (శ్వేతా చౌదరి) భర్తను ఎందుకు చంపేశారు? రాబోయే ఎన్నికల్లో మదనపల్లి జర్నలిస్టులు ఎవరికి సపోర్ట్ చేస్తారు? శివ మీద సువర్చల (మహిమా శ్రీనివాస్) మనసు పడిన విషయం అతనికి, నీలాకు తెలిసిందా? తమిళనాడు నుంచి వచ్చిన మనుషులు తనపై ఎటాక్ చేయడానికి కారణం ఎవరో శివ తెలుసుకున్నాడా? రాజకీయ నాయకుడి దగ్గరకు నీల ఎందుకు వెళ్ళింది? రెండో సీజన్ కోసం చాలా విషయాలు బాకీ ఉన్నాయి!

The 84-minute Pixar movie on Disney+, from feature directorial debutant Enrico Casarosa, is inspired by his own childhood — Luca is dedicated to Casarosa's best friend Alberto Surace, whose name he lends to the deuteragonist and the title protagonist's best friend — in the Italian Riviera in the 1970s and 1980s. It's set in a world that takes after the 1950s and the 1960s, for Casarosa doesn't feel as nostalgic (yet) about the eighties. But Luca 's is also a fantasy world. The aforementioned Luca (voiced by Jacob Tremblay, from Room) and Alberto (Jack Dylan Grazer, from Shazam!) are actually “sea monsters”, feared and hunted by the humans who live above the surface. Though technically, they are shapeshifting amphibians, that become fish in water, and human on land.
