PowerPoints are all the rager.
Gen Z’s idea of “work-life balance” was stifled during the COVID-19 lockdown — and now their parties even feature PowerPoint presentations.
A PowerPoint party is pretty self-explanatory: People get together and show each other PP presentations on a topic of their choosing for “fun.”
The, um, point is for friends to get to know each other’s silly, niche interests and funny thoughts.
The get-togethers rose in popularity during the pandemic, but they’re still a big hit among Gen Z today — despite utilizing something seen regularly in corporate environments.
Searching for PowerPoint parties on TikTok will bring up an endless stream of examples, with topics including A-list actor Pedro Pascal , “ Things that give me the ick ” and a meta presentation of “guessing what PowerPoint everyone prepared.”
It’s such a common occurrence that Cosmopolitan even put out a list of “55 PowerPoint Night Ideas to Spice Up Your Next at-Home Hang.” Some examples include Disney Channel movie supremacy, the most iconic set of twins in history, and the best chain restaurant and why.
People tend to be quite split on whether they find PowerPoint parties fun.
McCall Mirabella told CNN that she asked all her friends to prepare a PowerPoint for her recent 21st birthday celebration — and she loved it.
“They’re so unserious,” she told the outlet of PP nights she’s attended and hosted. “Most of the time, people are left crying from laughing so hard, or bent over wheezing.”
Others disagree, thinking we should leave the PowerPoints in the office — and not bring them into the home.
“I love my friends, and also I absolutely do not want to do this with any of them,” Emily Stewart of Business Insider wrote about the “weird” craze. “Must we turn something we do at work into something we do in our personal lives? Just hanging out without a plan is fine and pleasant.”
Why Gen Z is so infatuated with PowerPoints as a fun pastime isn’t exactly clear.
Perhaps their work and personal lives are blurred due to remote work, or maybe they’re just used to interacting via technology rather than in person.

2024 Kentucky Derby results, winner: Mystik Dan takes 150th Run for the Roses by a nose in epic photo finish
Trainer kenny mcpeek and jockey brian hernandez jr. also won the kentucky oaks on friday at churchill downs.
Mystik Dan has won the 150th Kentucky Derby in a photo finish. Mystik Dan just barely beat out Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose in a photo finish as all three reached the finish line.
This is now the 26th time that the Kentucky Derby has been decided by the length of a neck or less, and Mystik Dan reached the winner's circle in one of the most thrilling finishes in recent memory at Churchill Downs.
Mystik Dan took the lead down the backstretch and it looked like no horse would be able to catch him, but that's when both Sierra Leone and Forever Young made their move. As Mystik Dan began to slow a bit nearing the finish line, the two horses -- seemingly pinned to one another -- made the hard sprint to the finish line and nearly stole the victory away.
Trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. also won the Kentucky Oaks on Friday at Churchill Downs, making them just the second tandem to accomplish the feat.
In the immediate aftermath of the race, McPeek gave all the credit to Hernandez. McPeek said Hernandez has flown under the radar for a while, but those days are gone now.
"Brian just did an amazing job," McPeek told NBC in a on-track interview. "Just a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant jockey and ride. I mean, the draw helped us from the beginning. We talked about that. ... Brian is amazing. Probably one of the most underrated riders in racing, but not anymore."
Because of the razor-thin margin of victory, everyone had to wait several minutes for an official winner to be declared. Hernandez described that anticipation as "the longest few minutes I've ever felt in my life." Hernandez also said winning the Kentucky Derby fulfills a childhood dream for him.
"This is a lifetime achievement," Hernandez said. "This goes to our whole family. We've worked all our lives for this. It's hard to describe what kind of feeling this is. I told myself I was never going to step into the Derby winner's circle until I could do it on the back of a horse. To be able to live that dream from when I was a six-year-old kid riding my bike around my grandparents' farm telling them I was going to win the Kentucky Derby one day. Here we are."
Race favorite Fierceness started out strong, running with the leaders early. But down the stretch, he faded quickly to back and finished a disappointing 15th.
Check out the full results below. CBS Sports was with you the entire way on Saturday bringing you all the results and highlights from the Kentucky Derby. Thanks for stopping by.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Euphoria” Is a Good Jab, Not a Knockout Punch
Kendrick lands some solid punches on Drake, but he fails to deliver a knockout blow.
The best rappers approach diss tracks like they’re boxing. They strike with jabs—quick but forceful disses that’ll make the opposition tense if landed correctly. Next, they work the body as they bob and weave, talking about details that ruffle feathers, while reaffirming their power, moral compass, and status over an opponent. A knockout blow, within the span of four to five minutes, is a must. It should linger for ten seconds after it lands, like a referee’s count, as the listener begins to realize it’s a decisive blow. A good knockout lowers the plane of the opposition. They might have been big—that’s why they’re in the battle in the first place—but the myth around them has been swatted away like a fly in Central Park.
Consider Pusha-T’s “The Story of Adidon.” In that monumental blow towards Drake’s legacy, and his status as a titan of strategy, Push starts with precise jabs. “Your father walked away at five hell of a dad thing,” he snarls, with snot coming out of his nose. The revelation of Drake “hiding a child” is a big, sweeping hook. And the knockout shot is well known to everyone; making fun of Noah “40” Shebib for having Multiple Sclerosis and saying that he could expire any moment was like the infamous “down goes Frazier!” announcement. Whatever you think of that below-the-belt line, and Pusha-T’s general detective work on that song, “The Story of Adidon” is a perfect round of boxing: impeccably timed, concise, and tantalizingly skillful.
View this video on YouTube
Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar doesn’t quite have that science figured out. There’s something clarifying about his flaws as an emcee when you see him struggle with a knockout punch like this song should be. Despite all of his lecturing and professorial intensity, Lamar doesn’t contain enough economical brevity or cocksure swagger to land a fatal blow on “Euphoria.” The six-minute diss track, released Tuesday morning, has uppercuts that do land. He raps with force, and the hate that he has for Drake is palpable. “I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress,” he says, reminding us all that hating is a lost art in the world. A lot of his stabs at Drake are disrespectful and personal—at once point he calls Drake’s crew “OV-ho niggas”—but Kendrick’s flow, which can be disjointed and chaotic at times, holds him back from creating a song that is audacious but abridged.
In the first minute of the song, Kendrick uses his “PRIDE” flow, which sounds like he’s reading a children’s book, all drawn out and patient. Then he changes direction, using his theatrical voice to switch the tenor and atmosphere of the song. It’s quite like Kendrick in general—throwing density at you in an effort to overwhelm, putting all of his force out there. If that is compelling to you, then it works, and has worked for you throughout his career. But it doesn’t make for a spectacular diss track. “Euphoria” is closer to a less-charismatic version of “You Gotta Love It,” Cam’ron’s hilarious but entirely too lengthy diss towards Jay-Z, than it is to the intimidating mastery of “Story of Adidon” or “Hit Em Up.”
The insults are there, to be certain. Drake’s racial identity as a Black, Jewish Canadian is prevalent on the song, with Kendrick saying that he does not want to hear Drake saying “nigga” anymore in a melodic flow that sounds like a demonic lullaby. Disgruntlements like this are fair game to be rapped about on wax—Drake, the son of a Black musician from Memphis and Jewish florist from Toronto, has consistently made his complicated upbringing, compelling identity, and dubious relationship with Blackness a part of his music and story—but by the end of the song, it doesn’t feel like you just saw a great boxing performance.
“Euphoria” doesn’t have the showmanship; it doesn’t have the conceit—the negative and livewire expression—that you need. Where 2Pac said, “That’s why I fucked your bitch, you fat motherfucker,” Kendrick is saying, “I make music that electrify 'em, you make music that pacify 'em.” That underlines the main issue with this beef: these guys don’t have all that much to say to each other. It is not Biggie and Pac, who were competing over pride, women, violence, money. Jay-Z and Nas were trying to vie for the heart of New York. Jadakiss was tired of 50 Cent’s seemingly unmovable force. Drake is a pop star who can rap, a fan of hip-hop who can sing. Kendrick Lamar is a bare-knuckles poet, someone who I imagine raps without even hearing a beat. “Euphoria” is not whimsical, nor fanciful enough. It’s far messier, full of air punches, and sexless. It’s not rap as a wrestling performance, it’s rap as fan service for the types of people who view Drake as just a famous pop star, and not a model of eccentric Black pop.
Kendrick Lamar is not 2Pac, even if he’d like to be. He’s more in line with the Freestyle Fellowship crowd than Pac, who makes better use of negative space, gravitational songwriting, and unfiltered charisma. That’s abundantly clear here. The love of Pac is all around Kendrick—from his dislike of Drake buying the fallen rapper’s ring, to his ties with Los Angeles County, to his habit of calling himself a messiah—but the more he tries to go nuclear, the less he sounds like him.
