Being a professional content creator is expensive. Not only do you need a high-end camera with accompanying equipment, you also need a beefy computer with enough processing power to handle all of your high-res footage. Apple loyalists of late could choose between the 24-inch iMac all-in-one ($1,299) , the compact Mac Mini ($699) , or the ridiculously expensive Mac Pro ($6,000) . But with the new Mac Studio on the scene, there's now a near-perfect middle ground.

The Mac Studio comes with two processor choices: the M1 Max or M1 Ultra . Both are markedly more powerful than Apple's cheaper desktop Macs and even surpass the expensive Mac Pro. The Mac Studio starts at $2,000 and isn't what I'd call “cheap,” but you'll be hard-pressed to find an equivalent this powerful and compact for a similar price.

This is a review of the Mac Studio, but I talk about the Studio Display as well. It's Apple's new external monitor. Both are designed to be used together for the Full Apple Experience , but you can also use any display with the Mac Studio, and you can connect the Studio Display to most computers (some features are limited on Windows).

The Mac Studio is … dense. At nearly 6 pounds, it's heavier than my Chihuahua. When WIRED reviews editor Julian Chokkattu came over to help me film a video, he took one look at it and exclaimed, “ THAT'S the Mac Studio?!” It's surprisingly chunky.

Compared to the Mac Mini, the Mac Studio is more than 2 inches taller and 3 pounds heavier. Apple managed to keep its footprint at 7.7 inches, so it won't take up more space; just make some vertical room for it. Thankfully, it fits perfectly under the Studio Display.

front and rear view of Apple Mac Studio desktop computer showing ports

There are a few reasons why this silver machine is such a chonker. The outside is home to so many ports you'll wonder if it's really made by Apple . On the front are two USB-C ports and an SD card slot, while the back houses four Thunderbolt ports, an HDMI, two USB-A, a headphone jack, a 10-gigabyte Ethernet port, a built-in speaker, and the power outlet. Ports are seriously awesome , and I'm glad I don't need to attach dongles to the Mac Studio.

I do wish it stayed put a little better. There's a very thin plasticky ring on the bottom, and if you're using it on a glass desk like I am, the Mac Studio has a tendency to slide around when you're plugging things in or unplugging things from it. You have to apply a bit of pressure to make sure cables click in, so I often had to hold the machine down with one hand to keep it from sliding off the desk. It's a minor nitpick.

Apple M1 Ultra CPU

OK, forgive me for some number-speak . Remember how you can choose between an M1 Max processor and an M1 Ultra? Well, Apple says the M1 Max nets up to 50 percent faster CPU performance than a Mac Pro, with graphics performance that's more than three times faster. The M1 Ultra, which consists of two M1 Max chips fused together, offers up to 90 percent faster CPU performance than the Mac Pro and 80 percent faster graphics. You can also configure the Mac Studio with up to 8 terabytes of storage on both models.

Sure, the Mac Pro offers up modularity, but … wait, what's the point of the Mac Pro now? For what it's worth, Apple teased that it's working on a new Mac Pro it will likely debut at the end of the year if not in 2023. For now, the Mac Studio is everything nearly any power user will need.

Apple sent me the Mac Studio with the M1 Max for testing (with a 32-core GPU and 64-GB unified memory). That goes for $2,599 without counting storage upgrades. I am not a creative professional. My daily workflow includes browsing the web, typing words, and … emails. Overkill is an understatement. So I handed the Mac Studio over to a professional video maker to stress-test it.

We imported multiple streams of RED raw footage (about 40 gigabytes at about a 12:1 compression) into Final Cut Pro to edit. From there, we applied 3D tracking and tons of color correction, while also keeping it set to “best quality” (instead of “best performance”), which maintained the playback at full resolution. The M1 Max handled all of it like a champ. It was stutter-free, and the fans never kicked in. He even said it outpaced the $24,000 Mac Pro he uses as his daily machine. Comparatively, he has managed to work on a MacBook Pro with a standard M1 processor but did run into limitations that affected his workflow. The Mac Studio and the M1 Max never skipped a beat.

If that still leaves you wondering which processor you should opt for, let me help. Most power users will be more than satisfied with the M1 Max, especially at its $2,000 price. But if you work with content that requires a lot (and I mean a lot ) of intensive computer processing work, like high-level graphics or visual effects, then paying $4,000 for the M1 Ultra might make sense (and you probably know who you are). It's still much more stomachable than the Mac Pro's MSRP.

Apple Studio Display displaying paint blobs in many colors

It's natural to eye the Studio Display to pair with your Mac Studio. You need a display, after all. But do you need one that costs $1,599? I am not sure I can help you say no. It's really, really nice. The 27-inch size is spacious enough for juggling multiple apps at the same time, and the 5K resolution is stunningly sharp.

It also includes a 12-megapixel camera (sadly, no webcam privacy cover), along with built-in mics and speakers. The Mac Studio’s speaker sits in the back of the machine, and the audio tends to sound hollow. It doesn't hold a candle to the six-speaker system on the Studio Display, which is super clear and rich.

This monitor also includes a chip you'll find in the current-gen iPad—the A13 Bionic. It helps improve the webcam image quality and also drives features like Center Stage, which automatically keeps you in the frame during video calls, as well as “Hey Siri" functionality.

Placing your Studio Display near a window? I highly recommend the $300 upgrade to the nano-texture glass. My desk is near a window that gets a lot of sunlight, and I haven't experienced any type of glare during my time with this monitor. It's just a shame you have to pay to upgrade from the default tilt-adjustable stand to a tilt- and height-adjustable stand (an extra $400). You also annoyingly have to choose whether you want a stand or VESA mount adapter at checkout—Apple, just include both like nearly every other external monitor!

Like the Mac Studio, the Studio Display isn't for everyone. Most people don't need a $1,599 monitor. But if you do want a really accurate and sharp display and don't want to spend the $4,999 Apple charges for the Pro Display XDR, this is your middle ground. The downside? There's no HDR here, so colors look slightly more saturated and contrasty compared to the even and neutral tones on the XDR.

The Mac Studio is the beefy upgrade that power users have been craving, and it won't break the bank. And there's a good chance you can save $2,000 and stick with the base chip. That way, you can use that cash to splurge on a Studio Display.

Introducing Apple’s Mac Studio and Studio Display

Apple has introduced an entirely new category of Mac with the Mac Studio, best partnered with the new Studio Display (sold separately).

Announced at Apple’s March 2022 “Peek Performance” event, the Mac Studio offers power, energy efficiency, and an array of ports in one neat little package. The new desktop device isn’t quite a Mac Pro but offers more than a Mac mini, placing it somewhere in the middle of the non-portable Mac pack.

Along with the new Studio Display, Apple is marketing the Mac Studio to—as you might have guessed—studios, which is a broad term that seems to mean any workplace that uses computers. Let’s discuss the Studio range in greater detail.

Mac Studio Features and Price

Apple offers two options and starting prices for the Mac Studio based on the chip you choose:

  • Mac Studio M1 Max starts at $1,999
  • Mac Studio M1 Ultra starts at $3,999

Aside from performance and the inclusion of a front Thunderbolt 4 port in place of USB-C on the Ultra model, most of the starting specs match.

The Mac Studio relies on a double-sided blower—a fancy fan setup—to quietly cool your device and keep it running smoothly. Low noise, energy efficiency, and “outrageous performance” seem to be the hallmarks of the new desktop machine. The performance of some past Apple products has certainly caused outrage, so the description may be fitting. If you’re a fan of the control room setup, you can connect up to four Studio Displays to your Mac, along with one 4K TV.

The Mac Studio also supports up to 8TB of SSD storage, but such a spacious hard drive comes with an additional $2,200 price tag. When you add a lot of upgrades to the Mac Studio, the cost rapidly swells to astronomical numbers. See, Apple, we can do hyperbole too.

Now let’s talk ports and the new M1 Ultra silicon chip.

Apple Mac Studio Ports

Here’s a list of all the ports included in the Apple Mac Studio:

  • 4x Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • 1x Ethernet 10 Gigabit port
  • 2x USB-A ports
  • 1x HDMI port
  • 1x Audio jack
  • 2x USB-C ports, or Thunderbolt 4 for the m1 Ultra model (on the front)
  • SDXC card slot (on the front)

As you can see, the Mac Studio offers plenty of ports to help you weather any workplace storm.

Apple M1 Ultra Silicon Features

With the release of Mac Studio also comes the latest addition to the Apple silicon M1 range : the M1 Ultra. The new product uses a method dubbed Ultra Fusion to connect two chips in order to provide faster performance—and apparently the product delivers.

The M1 Ultra boasts a 20-core CPU and 64-GPU while remaining energy efficient. Future benchmarks will indicate whether Apple’s new chip lives up to the marketing hype.

Apple Studio Display Features and Price

Apple’s Studio Display starts at $1,599 and offers most of the features you’d expect from a pro display:

  • 27-inch active area
  • 5K Retina resolution
  • Three-mic array
  • Six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio
  • 3x USB-C ports
  • Thunderbolt port with 96W power output for charging other devices
  • Height-adjustable stand and mount adapter options

To accompany the new Studio range, Apple also announced silver-and-black versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. And the new products look super slick.

The Mac Studio and Studio Display Release Dates

Apple is already accepting pre-orders for the Mac Studio and Studio Display and will begin shipping the items on March 18, 2022.

If you’re searching for a Mac that provides a bit more power than some other desktop devices on offer, the new Mac Studio may be worth a look. In all likelihood, you won’t even need to be in a studio to enjoy the product. Couple the new Mac with a Studio Display, and you’ll have yourself a formidable workstation that will utterly outrage your rivals.

During the event, Apple also hinted at a future announcement of a new Mac Pro, which will no doubt come with more hyperbolic descriptions surrounding look, performance, and features.

M2 Pro Mac mini vs Mac Studio - compared

Wesley Hilliard's Avatar

Mac Studio next to the Intel Mac mini

mac studio presentation

Apple announced a spec-bumped Mac mini lineup that supports the M2 and M2 Pro processors on January 17. It is the first time the higher chip configuration has come to the tiny desktop, thus providing users with more options from low-end to high-end desktops.

In order to compare the two machines, we've configured the Mac mini with 32GB of RAM so it is closer to the entry Mac Studio in specs and price. Customers in the market for either computer will still have a $300 price difference that can be used for accessories, a storage bump, or more computing power.

M2 Mac mini

M2 Mac mini

Apple's 2023 Mac mini can be configured with up to a 19-core GPU.

Apple Mac Studio

Apple's Mac Studio can be configured with up to a 64-core GPU.

And yes, we're aware that the above image shows an Intel Mac mini. The case dimensions haven't changed through the transition to Apple Silicon , but the front LED is now at the bottom.

The M2 Pro hasn't been officially benchmarked yet, so a one-for-one comparison isn't possible. However, each model has clear pros and cons even without benchmarking. There are unverifiable benchmarks floating around we'll get to later.

Here's how the M2 Pro Mac mini with 32GB of RAM and 512GB of storage compares to the M1 Max Mac Studio with 32GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - specifications

The spec-to-spec comparison looks close, at least on paper. However, a customer's choice between the two will come down to priorities and use cases.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - design

Apple didn't change the design of the Mac mini for the 2023 chip update. So, that means it retains the same square shape as its previous generations.

The biggest differences between the Mac mini and Mac Studio are their height and internal volume. The Mac Studio is larger overall, so it has more ports and more capability for cooling.

However, that size and improved cooling aren't necessarily a net positive. Mac Studio users have stated that the cooling fan runs continuously, even without a load. While the fan might be very quiet, this can be a problem for some users.

The size of the fan and complexity of the cooling system is much greater in the Mac Studio as well. However, how this affects performance between the two is yet to be determined. The Mac mini doesn't have access to the more powerful M2 Max, which is likely due to the limited cooling.

The compact size of the Mac mini also means it can be more easily stored in more locations. It is also much more portable and can slip into a backpack for travel.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - performance

An alleged Geekbench score for the M2 Pro Mac mini has a single-core score of 1952, and a multi-core score of 15013. That's higher than the M1 Max Mac Studio by a significant margin, which scored 1727 single-core and 12643 multi-core.

If these numbers are accurate, then Apple's 12-core M2 Pro Mac mini with 16GB of RAM was able to outperform the base model Mac Studio. However, benchmark scores aren't everything and only give us a general view of performance.

The M2 Pro can't compete with the higher-end M1 Max

The baseline M2 Pro processor has a 10-core CPU and a 16-core GPU with a 16-core Neural Engine. That's compared to the M1 Max with a 10-core CPU and a 24-core GPU with a 16-core Neural Engine.

We've configured both machines with 32GB of RAM. However, the memory bandwidth is doubled on the M1 Max processor at 400GB/s versus 200GB/s for the M2 Pro.

The Media engine is also more powerful on the M1 Max because it simply has twice as many encode and decode engines. The Media Engine for the M2 Pro is improved over the M1 Pro, but not by enough to overcome the M1 Max's 2x performance.

Apple doesn't offer any hard numbers, but it has compared these machines to a similar Intel iMac with a Core-i7 processor. The Mac Studio with M1 Max saw a 2.5x CPU performance increase over that iMac, while the Mac mini with M2 Pro is closer to 2x for certain tasks like compiling code.

The M2 Pro with a 19-core GPU is said to be 2.5x more powerful at graphics tasks like gaming or image rendering over the M1 processor. The M1 Max with a 32-core GPU is rated at 4x more GPU performance over the M1, so at 16-cores, it may have comparable performance to the maxed-out M2 Pro graphics. For our comparison, the 16-core GPU will be less performant in the M2 Pro, but not by much.

Note that these are estimations provided by Apple PR, and true performance won't be understood until testing is performed. Again, if the price is no object and maximum performance is the goal, then the Mac Studio wins in this department regardless of benchmark results due to the higher available configurations.

Although, if initial benchmarks are accurate, then the M2 Pro Mac mini offers more power per dollar than the $2,000 Mac Studio. That's an important factor for customers looking to spend less than $2,000 on a desktop.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - ports

The Mac Studio's size gives it plenty of space for ports in both the front and the back of the machine. Apple didn't change anything about the Mac mini's port configuration, but it did bring back the four Thunderbolt 4 ports for the higher-end chipset.

Base model Mac Studio users get four Thunderbolt 4 ports, 10Gb Ethernet, two USB-A, HDMI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack in the rear. The front has two USB-C ports and an SDXC card slot. It supports four Pro Display XDRs and one 4K monitor over HDMI simultaneously.

Mac mini versus Mac Studio ports and design

The M2 Pro Mac mini gets four Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, two USB-A, Ethernet, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It supports two Pro Display XDRs and one 4K monitor over HDMI.

The M2 Pro processor does bring some new advantages that the Mac Studio doesn't have in terms of connectivity. The HDMI port has been upgraded to support higher resolutions and frame rates, depending on the monitors in use.

The M2 Pro Mac mini supports either a single 8K monitor at 60Hz or a single 4K monitor at 240Hz over HDMI. If a 6K monitor is connected over Thunderbolt, it can also run a 4K display at 144Hz over HDMI.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - configurations

We're comparing specific models of the Mac Studio and Mac mini. However, there is a range of configurations for each model.

The M2 Pro Mac mini with 32GB of RAM is a mid-tier configuration, while the Mac Studio we're comparing it to is the base model. That means customers interested in the Mac mini can actually reduce its price significantly by reducing the RAM or chipset configuration based on their needs.

The Mac mini's lower price leaves more room for accessories

On the other hand, customers can also increase the storage of the Mac mini to 1TB and still come in $100 lower than the Mac Studio. Those looking for absolute power without a price as a consideration can look to the Mac Studio, but otherwise, the Mac mini fits in a wider range of use cases and prices.

Both machines can be configured with up to 8TB of storage. The Mac Studio with M1 Max can have up to 64GB of RAM versus the Mac mini maxing out at 32GB of RAM.

M2 Pro Mac mini versus Mac Studio - pricing

The M2 Pro Mac mini configuration we've selected is priced at $1,699 . The Mac Studio baseline configuration is $1,999, although exclusive Mac Studio deals are bringing the price down to $1,845 at press time.

That $300 difference might be enough to convince most to select the Mac mini for its lower price. Unless you work in high-resolution media like 4K HDR video, you're not likely to notice a large difference in performance between the two machines.

Customers also have the option of bumping the Mac mini CPU up to 12 cores for a total price of $1,999, which adds two efficiency cores that the Mac Studio doesn't have in the M1 Max base chipset. It will mean a small gain in performance for certain tasks but won't likely be overly noticeable in day-to-day operations.

As always, the decision comes down to the user's needs. If you needed a Mac Studio before, that likely hasn't changed.

For those on the fence, the Mac mini is much more capable than before at a better price.

To make it a more Apples to Apples comparison you should check the 10Gbe Ethernet option on the Mini.  Then both machines are closer in specs.  With that option the M2 Pro mini is $1,799 vs the $1,999 base of the Studio.

It's sort of odd they didn't also update the Studio offerings. Perhaps they will skip the M2 and go directly to the M3 @ 3nm.  It's entirely possible the M2 Max Macbook will be faster/more feature complete than any Studio other than the Ultra version. After reviewing the specs on the M2 Max Macbook, it sort of obsoletes the Max version of the Studio. For now.

Other difference: you can Velcro a mini to the back of a display to get an upgradable iMac.   The studio wasn’t updated as they don’t have an M2 ultra chip yet. PS: that is a huge suck of a price jump to add 16GB of RAM.

I think the demarcation is to only get the Studio if you need more than the Mac mini offers. So, if you need more 32 GB of RAM, more than 20 GPU cores, your decision is made. Decision will be easier when the Studio ships with the M2 Max/Ultra. The only thing we don't know yet is how loud the M2 Pro mini will be. That could change things for some people. People should just wait for 4k 240 Hz and 8k 60 Hz to come to the Studio before making a decision.

After reviewing the specs on the M2 Max Macbook, it sort of obsoletes the Max version of the Studio. For now. I'm guessing it's because the Ultra isn't ready yet. It may be two Maxes glued together, but actually building the package is probably a bit more complicated than that. I'd expect the Ultra later in the year, maybe around April-May. Depending on when they do the iPad Air update, which I'd also expect to see in the next few months. Disclaimer: I'm not a pundit. I have no connections. I'm just making random guesses based on past experience. I didn't even know there was an announcement this morning until I saw it on news sites.

Mac Mini vs. Mac Studio Buyer's Guide

In 2023, Apple updated the Mac Studio with the M2 Max and ‌M2‌ Ultra chips, with the latter being the most powerful Apple silicon chip to date. Earlier this year, Apple refreshed the Mac mini with the ‌M2‌ and ‌M2‌ Pro chips, meaning that the ‌Mac Studio‌ faces a formidable competitor that offers "Pro" capabilities at a substantially lower price point.

mac studio vs mac mini

Comparing the Mac Mini and the Mac Studio

The ‌Mac mini‌ and the ‌Mac Studio‌ share some fundamental features, including a familiar, boxy silver aluminum design, Apple silicon chipsets, and two USB-A ports. That being said, the two machines have much more in contrast than they do in common, including different chip options, memory capacities, ports, and external display support capabilities.

Key Differences

Desktop apple silicon chips compared.

While we don't yet have benchmarks for the ‌M2‌ Ultra, it is still worth comparing the ‌M2‌, ‌M2‌ Pro, and ‌M2‌ Max to the M1 Ultra to get a sense of how their performance scales. Benchmark scores for the ‌M2‌ Ultra are likely to be around 20 to 30 percent better than the ‌M1 Ultra‌.

In single-core tasks, the ‌M2‌ and ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌ models perform very similarly to the ‌M2‌ Max and ‌M2‌ Ultra ‌Mac Studio‌. Yet in multi-core and GPU tasks, the ‌Mac Studio‌ makes considerable strides ahead of the ‌Mac mini‌, scaling as one would expect. Users who need maximum GPU performance, in particular, should buy the ‌Mac Studio‌ over the ‌Mac mini‌.

See the approximate Geekbench 5 scores for each ‌Mac mini‌ and ‌Mac Studio‌ below (‌M1 Ultra‌ in place of ‌M2‌ Ultra until benchmarks are available):

  • ‌M2‌: ~2,000
  • ‌M2‌ Pro: ~2,000
  • ‌M2‌ Max: ~2,700
  • ‌M1 Ultra‌: ~1,750

Metal GPU Scores

  • ‌M2‌: ~30,500
  • ‌M2‌ Pro: ~52,700
  • ‌M2‌ Max: ~64,700
  • ‌M1 Ultra‌: ~94,500
  • ‌M2‌: ~9,000
  • ‌M2‌ Pro: ~14,200
  • ‌M2‌ Max: ~14,400
  • ‌M1 Ultra‌: ~23,350

Unless you plan on buying the ‌M2‌ Ultra ‌Mac Studio‌ with a focus on multi-core and GPU performance, the ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌ should be the best all-round choice in terms of performance for most users.

If you need more than 32GB of memory, the ‌Mac Studio‌ can provide greater quantities up to 192GB. Likewise, the ‌Mac mini‌'s memory bandwidth maxes out at 200GB/s memory bandwidth. The ‌Mac Studio‌, on the other hand, offers up to 400GB/s or 800GB/s memory bandwidth. As such, if you need extreme quantities of memory and a large amount of memory bandwidth for professional tasks, only the ‌Mac Studio‌ can meet these requirements. It is still worth noting that the ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌'s 32GB memory option, along with 200GB/s memory bandwidth, should be more than enough for most users.

Ports and External Display Support

The ‌Mac Studio‌ offers a more versatile selection of ports, with two extra Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports and a SDXC card slot compared to the ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌, which could be an important consideration for users with a lot of peripherals.

The ‌Mac mini‌ can only support up to three external displays with the ‌M2‌ Pro chip, whereas the ‌Mac Studio‌ can support up to eight 4K displays, six 6K displays, or three 8K displays.

Final Thoughts

To some extent, purchasing decisions should be driven by budget, but it is worth bearing in mind that any savings on the desktop computer itself can be put toward a good external display such as Apple's Studio Display, which starts from $1,599. For example, an ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌ paired with a Studio Display comes to $2,898, which is just $899 more than a lone base model ‌Mac Studio‌ and $1,101 less than the ‌M2‌ Ultra ‌Mac Studio‌ with no display.

  • You need a high-level of performance and versatility at a comparatively low price
  • You prefer a smaller desktop machine
  • You need extreme multi-core CPU or GPU performance
  • You need more than 32GB of memory and high memory bandwidth
  • You need more than four Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports
  • You need support for more than three external displays
  • You need a built-in SDXC card slot (UHS-II)

You should only consider the ‌Mac Studio‌ if you have a professional workflow that can leverage the extreme power of the ‌M2‌ Max or ‌M2‌ Ultra, as well as its additional ports and memory options. If you need the ‌Mac Studio‌, you will likely know that you are looking for a highly powerful machine that is capable of supporting specific intense workflows. Most customers should choose the ‌M2‌ Pro ‌Mac mini‌ over the ‌M2‌ Max ‌Mac Studio‌, saving $700 when looking at the base models. There will likely still be substantial savings when it comes to custom configurations.

I'd argue Mac Studio is the middle ground choice. Mac mini is the lower ground (I hate calling it "low end" because it can handle serious workloads in certain areas) and Mac Pro is the "no limits" high ground.

Mac mini is capable of handling less-demanding workloads. Mac Studio is a mid-ranged system that is capable of handling demanding workloads. Mac Pro is a "no limits" system, capable of handling the most demanding workloads.

I need to say that I am confused now. Nothing negative, just not very clear. We now have Mac Mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro. How to really understand it?

The 7 biggest announcements from Apple’s Peek Performance event

Apple’s event showed off a monitor with an iphone cpu inside.

By Kim Lyons , Mitchell Clark , and Richard Lawler

Apple has just finished its Peek Performance event, where it introduced a new version of the iPhone SE with its latest mobile processor and 5G, a new desktop Mac aimed at creative professionals, and an external monitor that doesn’t have a $5,000 starting price ( finally ). If you’re looking for a quick round-up, here are the biggest announcements Apple made in its hour-long presentation.

Apple now has four chips in its M1 lineup.

Apple M1 Ultra

Apple announced a new addition to its Apple Silicon lineup, with the M1 Ultra. The TL;DR is that it’s basically two M1 Max chips put together, supporting up to 128GB of RAM. Apple says it’s eight times faster than the standard M1 chip. The M1 Ultra will be available in the Mac Studio and likely in the Mac Pro that Apple teased as an upcoming announcement. Speaking of...

The M1 Ultra Mac Studio starts at $3,999, and includes two more Thunderbolt ports on the front — the ports on the front of the M1 Max version are “just” USB C.

Apple announces the Mac Studio

The Mac Studio is the latest entry in Apple’s Mac lineup — it’s basically like a Mac Mini aimed at creative professionals, with tons of I/O (it has at least four Thunderbolt ports and an SD card slot on the front), cooling, and processing power. The M1 Max version starts at $1,999, and the M1 Ultra version starts at $3,999 .

The Studio Display is significantly less expensive than the Pro Display XDR.

Apple’s 27-inch 5K Studio Display costs $1,599, and it has an iPhone chip inside

The Studio Display has a 27-inch, 5K screen encased in an aluminum enclosure. The display can reach up to 600 nits of brightness, supports P3 wide color, and works with macOS’s TrueTone feature. Above the screen is a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera for video conferencing. Apple’s first new prosumer monitor in years is available to order now, with shipments starting on March 18th.

Apple has a few stand options, but the built-in one is free.

... and it actually comes with a stand

Yes, that $1,599 price point gets you a monitor that can actually stand on its own. Though if you want height adjustment, Apple’s upgrade stand option is $400.

iPhone SE (2022)

Apple’s new iPhone SE has 5G and an A15 Bionic CPU

The new iPhone SE brings the advanced features of Apple’s newest A15 CPU to a cheaper, smaller package with a price that starts at $429. Apple seemed to downplay the SE’s new 5G radio and instead focused on the fact that you can get an experience similar to its pricier iPhone 13 devices in the same 4.7-inch package — including Touch ID — when it launches on March 18th.

The iPad Air now has the Mac’s processor.

The new iPad Air has an M1 chip inside

A year and a half after its last update, the iPad Air has another new version, but this time, the improvements are mostly internal. Now it’s home to an eight-core M1 chip like the iPad Pro, 5G on cellular-equipped models, and a 12MP front-facing camera.

iOS 15.4 is coming out next week

You can use Face ID with your mask on (if you’ve got a newer iPhone, that is)!

Apple TV Plus announces Friday Night Baseball

Apple’s streaming service will feature two Major League Baseball games on Friday nights during the regular season. In the US and Canada, there’s also a new 24/7 MLB livestream with replays, news, highlights, and analysis, plus on-demand highlights and a new MLB Big Inning live show.

The regular and Pro iPhones both get green finishes.

Now you can get the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro in green

The iPhone 13 lineup has a new green colorway, while the Pro phones will come in an “alpine green.” Expect preorders starting Friday, availability starting March 18th.

The 27-inch iMac is no more

The discontinuation of the 27-inch, Intel-based iMac wasn’t explicitly announced on stage, but they’ve disappeared from Apple’s store. It seems like now you have to choose between a Studio setup or the M1 iMac with a 24-inch screen .

Update March 8th, 4:38PM ET: Added information about the Studio Display’s stand, iOS 15.4’s release date, and the 27-inch iMac.

Vision Pro ‘one the the biggest steps’ for mainstream XR adoption, says Job Simulator studio

Avatar for Zac Hall

Apple Vision Pro may be taking a backseat while the M4 iPad Pro has its day in the sun, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t big things brewing for the premium mixed reality headset. GamesIndustry.biz has interviewed Owlchemy Labs CEO Andrew Eiche about their experience bringing Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator to Apple Vision Pro, and their perspective on its role in the world is clear.

Andrew Eiche on the viability of Apple Vision Pro :

“I see it as one of the biggest steps towards mainstream adoption. I think there’s still a lot of things that we have to figure out to get there. But as far as friction [goes], which is one of the biggest things that we fight in XR… It’s one of the lowest friction devices. You put it on, there’s no room setup, it’s not yelling at you to draw circles or whatever, it just runs the apps. There’s no caveats to it. “And I think that, thinking strategically, that’s really important to have a headset that you could just put on, it auto adjusts the lenses, it logs you in, it does everything.”

Eiche also argues that it’s more important to consider if mixed reality development is on the right path to mainstream adoption rather than if we’ve arrived there yet.

“For many of us it’s there, but it’s not there for the mainstream yet. But we’re starting to see chipping away at that broader problem. So, I think, as developers and enthusiasts, you always want your eye on mainstream adoption but we need to be less worried about ‘Are we there yet?’ and more worried about ‘Are we on a path to get there?’

He also likens the arrival of ChatGPT as something that “everyone just f***ing gets” as if it arrived overnight, but in reality AI development has been going on for 50 years.

Eiche goes on to say that “we’re just so used to not watching technology evolve, because it happens behind [the scenes] and then it gets productised and sent out as this great thing… And I think VR is one of the few cases where we’ve been so openly involved in watching every single step that we’re like, ‘But I love it, it should be here now!’ And it’s like… just wait!”

All in all, the head of the studio behind some of the most popular VR games sees a lot of upside with the existence of Apple Vision Pro as it exists today. You can read the full piece here .

How to Record Discord Audio [2024 Full Guide]

Key takeaways:.

・To record Discord audio on a PC, you can always try the built-in screen recorder: Xbox Game Bar. However, if you want advanced features like the ability to record multiple sources without a time limit, you can try EaseUS RecExperts .

・Craig Bot is a good choice when you want to record Discord audio on a phone, whether it’s an Android phone or iPhone.

・Recording Discord audio on PS5 can be troublesome, but OBS Studio can help you with this.

How to Record Discord Audio on PC

If you are using Discord on a computer, say a Windows computer running Windows 10 or later, you can try two recorders to capture the streaming audio. Let’s check out the two tools below.

Record Discord Audio via EaseUS RecExperts

・ Compatible with: Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & macOS 10.13 or later

・ Editor’s opinion: This recorder is suitable for those users who want to record Discord for as long as they want with an easy and comprehensive recorder.

EaseUS RecExperts is the most recommended Discord audio recorder for computer users. It is compatible with Windows and Mac. It is capable of recording streaming platforms. For instance, it can record Discord, Netflix, and record YouTube audio etc.

It also offers a noise-reduction function to record Discord audio clearly. There’s no time limitation on your recordings. After recording, you can save and export it in MP3, AAC, WAV, etc.

Let’s take a Windows computer as an example to show you how to use RecExperts.

Steps to record Discord audio with EaseUS RecExperts

Step 1. Launch Discord and play whatever you want to record. Then, install and launch EaseUS RecExperts.

Step 2. Click “Audio” (the speaker sign) from the left side of the interface. Select the audio source from the “System sound” or the “Microphone”. You can also record them both.

Step 3. After that, hit the orange “REC” button to start recording. To finish it, you just click on the red square icon from the recording taskbar. Then, you will be led to the “Recordings” list. You can edit or manage the recordings here.

Record Discord Audio with Xbox Game Bar

・ Compatible with: Windows 11, 10

・ Editor’s opinion: This recorder is suitable for those who need a basic screen recording function and don’t want to download things.

As EaseUS RecExperts requires downloading, some people may not want it. In this case, you can try the built-in screen recording tool on Windows 10 and later. It records computer audio from any source for free. No installation is required.

One thing to note is that Xbox only offers basic recording functions. Also, it has a recording time limit of up to 2 hours. If it meets your needs, you can record Discord audio with it by following the steps below.

How to record Discord audio with Xbox Game Bar

Step 1. Change the audio recording setting on your computer by clicking “Windows Settings” > “Gaming” > “Captures” and toggle on the “Capture audio when recording a game” option.

Step 2. Change the audio capturing setting in the Xbox Game Bar by pressing “Windows” + “G” on your keyboard and clicking “Settings” > “Widgets” > “All (Game, enabled mic, apps, system)”. Also, you need to make sure the “System Sounds” is not muted from the top menu.

Step 3. Play whatever you want to record on Discord and go back to the main interface of Xbox Game Bar. Then, click “Capture” > “Start recording” to begin.

Step 4. Click on “Stop recording” from the taskbar to finish the recording process. Then, you can click to check your recordings in the Xbox Game Bar.

How to Record Discord Audio on Phones

Some people like using Discord on their mobile phones. In this part, we will show you how to record Discord audio on a phone. This method is applicable to both Android and iPhone. Let’s dive in!

Record Discord Audio with Craig Bot

・ Compatible with: Android, iOS

・ Editor’s opinion: For most Android and iPhone users, this is the best choice for recording Discord audio.

To record Discord audio on iPhone and Android phone, we will need a tool called Craig Bot. This will activate the inbuilt audio recording function on Discord. With this, you can capture audio from Discord without downloading anything on your phone.

One thing to note is that this method requires you to invite your mobile on the Craig official website from the desktop. The operation is quite simple. Now, let’s check the details below.

Steps to record Discord audio with Craig Bot

Step 1. Log in to your Discord account to create a Discord server. Then, visit Craig’s official website.

Step 2. Select “Invite Craig to your Discord server” and choose the server you want to record on. Then, click “authorize” to continue.

Step 3. Type “/join” into the chat box and hit “Send”. Then, choose the channel you want to record in.

Step 4. Enter “/stop” in the chat box or press “Stop recording” to pause or stop your recording. Then, you can select “Download recordings” to save them.

How to Record Discord Audio on Mac

If you want to record Discord audio on a Mac computer, try Audacity and GeForce Experience. Below is the detailed tutorial.

Record Discord Audio Using Audacity

・ Compatible with: macOS X 10.7 or later

・ Editor’s opinion: To record Discord audio in various formats on a Mac computer, you can always trust Audacity .

Another Discord audio recording option is Audacity. You can use it on your Mac computer. It allows users to capture the audio they want in high quality. Moreover, Audacity supports all major audio formats, including WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG, and much more.

It also offers audio-editing functions, suitable for producing music, podcasts, or playing audio files. Now, let’s see how to use it to record audio from Discord.

Step 1. Open Audacity on your Mac and select “Audacity” from the top-most left corner of the home screen.

Step 2. Choose “Preferences” from the dropdown menu and go to “Devices”. Then, you need to select the recording device as your microphone.

Step 3. Join a Discord channel and select the red recording button in Audacity. The recording will start now.

Record Discord Audio via GeForce Experience

・ Compatible with: Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7

・ Editor’s opinion: This tool not only records Discord audio but also speeds up your device for a better and smoother experience.

GeForce Experience is helpful in capturing and sharing videos, screenshots, and live streams with others. Also, it keeps your drivers up to date and optimizes your game settings on your Mac computer.

One thing to note is that, if you want to capture the Discord audio successfully, you have to have both Discord and your system output be the same. Then, check the steps to record Discord audio with GeForce Experience below now.

How to record Discord audio with GeForce Experience

Step 1. Go to Discord > “User settings” > “Voice & Video” and check if the input device and output device are workable.

Step 2. Open the “share” overlay by pressing “Alt + Z” on your keyboard. Then, click the “Microphone” > the “Settings” in the drop-down to select the audio source you want to record.

Step 3. Click on “Record” from the overlay and choose “Start” to begin. You can also press “Alt + F9” to start recording.

How to Record Discord Audio on PS5

PS5 Control doesn’t offer an audio recording feature for Discord. This part gives you another tool to record Discord audio.

Record Discord Audio with OBS

・ Compatible with: Windows 10 20H2 (64 bit)

・ Editor’s opinion: This free tool is commonly used in audio and screen recording. It is best for those who want a real free recorder.

As we mentioned above, PS5 Control doesn’t support audio-recording for Discord. In this case, you will need a third-party recorder called OBS Studio. This is an open-source screen recorder. It is totally free to use.

Compatible with almost all devices, OBS helps record Discord audio on PS5. However, you need to connect the PS5 to your computer first.

Stage 1. Connect PS5 to your computer

Step 1. Disable HDCP in the “Setting” of your PS5 and take your first HDMI cable and plug it into the “IN” port of the capture card, and the other needs to plug into PS5. Then take the second HDMI into the “OUT” port.

Step 2. Connect your capture card to your computer.

Stage 2. Record Discord audio on PS5 with OBS

Step 1. Open OBS and go to “Settings”.

Step 2. Navigate “Capture” > “Audio” to set the Desktop Audio to “Default”. Then, hit on “Apply” > “OK” to save the settings.

Step 3. Now, you can click the “start recording” option on the main interface. Finish the recording by clicking “Stop recording”.

How to Choose A Suitable Discord Audio Recorder

To choose a Discord audio recorder, you need to check if it meets the standards below.

Function: The tool you choose must support audio recording and needs to be compatible with Discord. It means you need a streaming audio recorder.

Price: If the tool you find is not free to use, make sure the performance is worth the price you pay for.

After-sale service: It is normal for you to encounter some issues when using the recorder. A good after-sale service can solve many problems quickly.

Interface: You need a recorder with an easy-to-use and intuitive interface. Otherwise, it will take you a lot of time to get used to it.

The Bottom Line

After recording this article, you must have known some feasible ways to record Discord audio on PCs and mobile phones. These methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Choose the one based on your needs.

EU and UNDP support Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’s communities to address the challenges of war: outcomes of the Local Development Forum

This gathering convened representatives from local authorities, the police, the State Emergency Service and the public sector to delineate pathways for further community -led recovery.

DNIPRO, 14 December 2023 — The United Nations Development Program me (UNDP) in Ukraine and the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Administration organized the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Local Development Forum with financial support from the European Union (EU).

The forum featured four panel discussions, focusing on enhancing community security measures in host communities, transitioning from emergency response to long-term recovery and development, fostering new socio-economic opportunities and reintegrating veterans. It particularly emphasized engaging displaced public organizations in the region ’ s recovery and development processes.

Over 100 representatives from local authorities, the police, the State Emergency Service and the public sector participated in the event.

Serhii Lysak, the H ead of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast S tate A dministration, stressed that collaboration and communication are pivotal for the region ’ s communities ’ sustainable development. “ Constructive dialogue and communication expedite efforts to overcom e today’s challenges, and expand opportunities for Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’s communities ,” he said.

Stefan Schleuning, Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, underscored that communities closer to the frontline need particular attention and assistance. “These localities have borne the brunt, sheltering thousands of people affected by the war, people who have lost their homes, support and sense of safety,” he said. “Events like the Local Development Forum enable us to better understand the needs of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’s communities, and aid them to surmount difficulties caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”

Christophoros Politis, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine, lauded Dnipropetrovsk Oblast as a shining example of Ukrainian unity and unwavering support. “We at UNDP, and myself personally, are deeply impressed by the region’s remarkable transition from humanitarian aid to a focused effort on swift recovery and development,” he said. “This forum serves as a critical platform to collaborate on a comprehensive strategy for moving forward. Prioritizing recovery while incorporating the valuable experiences and visions of the communities themselves will be key to success.”

Following the full-scale Russian Federation invasion in Ukraine, UNDP and the EU remain actively engaged in supporting Dnipropetrovsk Oblast’ s communities. Our joint efforts span from establishing shelters for displaced persons and backing displaced public organizations to organizing inclusive leisure activities for internally displaced children and parents.

The forum was organized by the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Administration with the support of UNDP in Ukraine in the framework of “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine” project, and with financial support from the European Union.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Anna Delvey appeared at immigration court Thursday morning sporting a custom outfit created by her OutLaw agency client, SHAO New York, for their second “fashion presentation.” She staged the first last year at her East Village apartment with her business partner, Kelly Cutrone, while on house arrest.

This time, the infamous scam artist wore a custom black oversize twill suit (complete with a scarlet letter), a high-waisted pencil skirt, a white cotton button-down shirt with built-in shoulder pads and a silk velvet pussy bow tie.

The hearing was about her $10,000 bail bond, an update on the court-ordered ban on her social media and the terms of her house arrest. Sketches for the look were provided to Page Six exclusively Wednesday and included her ankle monitor.
