Do cover letters have any sway with recruiters who are hiring professional electricians?

Since the position is sensitive and requires a high level of expertise, hiring managers try to be thorough with their evaluation. As such, a well-written cover letter is a crucial part of the recruitment process as it highlights an electrician’s level of experience, knowledge, and even detail-oriented skills .

Cover letters for electrician positions may be short, but they are not necessarily easy to construct. That’s because you have limited space to fit all the relevant information potent enough to impress the hiring manager.

This article covers tips for using the right information to stand out as the best applicant when gunning for a position with a big electrical company.

With these tips, you will not only be able to condense your resume and get hiring managers to take it seriously; you are also more likely to land the job.

Header of Cover Letter

Cover letters have several sections, even though these sections are not as spelt out as you have them in modern resumes . The first section introduces you to the hiring manager, detailing personal information such as name and address.

The format of the header section is different from the others. It is usually center-aligned. As such, it is the section that first draws the attention of hiring managers, especially if you use slightly larger fonts than the rest of the cover letter.

All you need in your electrician cover letter header is listed below:

• Your full name. Ensure that your first, middle (if applicable), and last names are written in the same order as you have them on your ID card.
• Cite the abbreviated titles of the most relevant certifications you have. These may be professional certifications such as ETC, EMTC, and CEI-R or educational/managerial certifications such as BEng (Bachelor of Engineering), PMP (Project Management Professional), and CSEP ( Certified Systems Engineering Professional ).
• Include your current residential address. You may decide to use your email address if you don’t want to reveal your exact location. However, if the job position has location as one of its criteria, make sure to include your home address.
• Modern cover letters also include dates of submission in the header section.

Cover Letter Greeting

An effective cover letter greeting is more related to HR protocol than anything. There are salutations that you cannot use in a modern cover letter, and there are others that you can use but may not impress hiring managers and prompt them to read further down the cover letter.

For an electrician cover letter, the address of greeting is usually general. Unless the hiring company tells you to use a particular address, you are more likely to be favorably placed when you use ‘Dear Hiring Manager’ or ‘Dear Hiring Team.’

This address carries a formal tone because the employment process for electricians is almost always formal. As such, you have to be formal from the very beginning of the cover letter.

Without question, you cannot use ‘Dear Fellow Engineer’ or ‘Dear Fellow Electrician’ in an attempt to cozy up to the hiring manager. It never works, at least not in your favor.

Also, refrain from using the name of the hiring company. If you want to subtly tell the hiring team that you have done your research, use the name of the hiring manager. Many times, this is the person whose name is on the job advert.

Cover Letter Introduction

The Introduction section of your cover letter comes immediately after the greeting.

Unlike the format of an application letter, cover letters don’t include a separate heading detailing the purpose of the letter.

So, instead of writing ‘Application for the Position of Electrician at ABC’ after the ‘Dear Hiring Manager’ greeting, you simply introduce yourself.

Now, even though hiring managers expect a ‘simple’ introduction from you in this section, they also want to get something of a summary about who you are and what you can do.

You can think of the Introduction section of your cover letter as the Summary section of your resume.

Thus, if the hiring manager decides to read only the introduction, you would have provided enough information to convince them to approve your application.

The information you can include in the introductory section of your electrician cover letter includes:

• Your full name, certifications, and years of active experience. If age is one of the requirements of the job, hiring managers will be on the lookout for this information, so include it. It’s no surprise that this week’s The Hollywood Reporter cover story on Andy Cohen would garner some attention — in it, the Watch What Happens Live host and Bravo producer spoke candidly with Co-Editor in Chief Maer Roshan about the accusations that had been swirling around the Real Housewives franchise, from on-set sexism to racism to alcohol and drug abuse, breaking his long silence about the controversy .

“Your friendship with Mayer has been the subject of intense speculation,” Roshan noted. “People seem dubious that a straight rock star can have a close, platonic relationship with a gay TV personality.”

“Let them speculate” Cohen replied. “I honestly love John Mayer, and he loves me. But because we are so affectionate to each other, people don’t know what box to put that in. They assume we are sleeping with each other, which we are most definitely not.”

That snippet in a 5,000-word interview quickly went viral, with dozens of news outlets, from CNN to the Daily Mail to Yahoo News, picking it up. More surprisingly, the question caught the eye of a certain rock guitarist — Mayer himself — who was moved to write  THR the following response, which is printed here in full:

Hi Mr. Roshan,

I read your interview with Andy Cohen , and was intrigued by your line of questioning regarding our friendship. You posited that “your friendship with Mayer has been a subject of intense speculation. People seem dubious that a straight rock star can have a close platonic relationship with a gay TV personality.”

I think this is somewhat of a specious premise. First, there is a long and storied history of “rock stars” (not mocking, just won’t refer to myself as one) befriending gay icons and artists.

I love intelligent discourse — as I hope you’ll find this email to be — but I bristle at your selectively flimsy logic meant to coax an answer, when the premise itself is so deeply flawed, and quite possibly not even quantitatively true. 

Quite simply, if someone is dubious of a platonic relationship between a straight man and a gay man, I don’t think that shallow a view deserves clarification by anyone with self respect, be it Andy or your publication. Reinforcing the idea that any gay/straight relationship needs qualification that it’s not sexual devoids everyone involved of their dignity.

In the moments before he apparently shot himself through the left temple , Boeing whistleblower John Barnett sat in the front seat of his orange Dodge Ram truck and scrawled his final thoughts into a notebook.

“I can’t do this any longer! Enough!” he wrote, according to a suicide note obtained by The Post. “F— Boeing.”

“America,” he continued “Come together or die!! I pray the motherf—that destroyed my life pay!!! I pray Boeing pays!!! Bury me face down so Boeing and their lying-ass leaders can kiss my ass.”

Authorities say they have authenticated the handwriting as belonging to Barnett. Only his fingerprints were found on the notebook.

In the letter, Barnett also sends missives to his loved ones.

“To my family and friends, I found my purpose,” he wrote. “I’m at peace. I love you more.”

Barnett was a quality control engineer who worked for Boeing for more than three decades before retiring in 2017.

During his tenure, he says he had raised a great deal of safety complaints to his bosses which he says were unheeded, particulrlay when he worked at the company’s Charleston plant. Barnett claimed his bosses then retaliated against him and put him in a largely administrateive role.

Two years later, he told the BBC Boeing cut corners by rushing to get its 787 Dreamliner jets off the production line and into service.

Boeing has been  under heightened scrutiny  in recent months due to a myriad of issues on its planes, including in January when a door plug blew out during an Alaska Airlines flight.

Following the Jan. 5 mid-air fiasco, the Federal Aviation Administration discovered  “unacceptable” quality control issues during an audit into Boeing  and supplier Spirit AeroSystems. 

Barnett was found dead on the morning of March 9 after he failed to show up for the third day of depositions about Boeing’s safety practices.  His lawyers and family have questioned  the circumstances around the shooting, and said he didn’t seem despondent in the days leading up to the alleged suicide.

The suicide note was released by the Charleston Police Department, who have closed their investigation into his death, concluding he took his own life.

NewsNation Sends Letter to Israel ‘Demanding Access’ for Journalists in Gaza: ‘Allow the Public To See for Themselves’

N ewsNation sent a letter to the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday “demanding access” for international journalists into Gaza to cover the ongoing conflict.

“Many of you have asked about my recent criticism that Israel should allow media to be on the ground in Gaza,” said NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo on his show, Wednesday, before revealing:

NewsNation agrees, and has sent a letter demanding access. Why? The obvious. There’s no way a conflict of this magnitude should be going on without a fair appraisal from the ground, and I have to be honest, I understand why the IDF, why Israeli politicians would be concerned about people seeing what they’re doing, but that’s only more reason to have people see what they’re doing. And also, they’re worried that they may injure journalists, as they have in the past. But that is not their choice to make. That is the choice of a free media and that is a choice that we freely make. So, I encourage you, if you care about seeing the reality on the ground, figuring out how bad the suffering is, what the real numbers are, or getting close to it, let it be known that you want to see more coverage of the actual realities. The players pay attention to social media. Your voice will be heard.

In the letter, which was shown on-air during Cuomo’s show, NewsNation protested that since the beginning of Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza more than seven months ago, the world had been forced, for the most part, to rely on “social media posts by people with an obvious bias and no allegiance to traditional journalistic standards of objectivity” due to Israel’s refusal to allow international journalists into Gaza.

NewsNation argued that by “granting independent journalists access inside Gaza,” Israel “could allow the public to see for themselves what is happening with food aid intended for civilians, as well as whether Hamas tactics include operating in civilian enclaves, public infrastructure, and in and around hospital facilities.”

“We stand with our colleagues in the international journalism community who have called on the governments of Israel and Egypt to allow free and unfettered access into Gaza,” the letter declared. “We also join our colleagues in their call for adherence to international laws intended to protect non-combatants, including journalists .”

NewsNation concluded, “In short, we, as journalists, believe we have an essential role to play in the public’s right to know the details of a life-and-death struggle that will have international repercussions for years to come. We are asking your permission to allow us to fulfill that vital role.”

Biden and Trump, trading barbs, agree to 2 presidential debates, in June and September

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump on Wednesday agreed to hold two campaign debates — the first on June 27 hosted by CNN and the second on Sept. 10 hosted by ABC — setting the stage for their first presidential face-off to play out in just over a month.

The quick agreement on the timetable followed the Democrat’s announcement that he would not participate in fall presidential debates sponsored by the nonpartisan commission that has organized them for more than three decades. Biden’s campaign instead proposed that media outlets directly organize the debates between the presumptive Democratic and Republican nominees .

The debate is so unusually early on the political calendar that neither Biden nor Trump will have formally accepted his party’s nomination.

Hours later, Biden said he had accepted an invitation from CNN, adding, “Over to you, Donald.” Trump, who had insisted he would debate Biden anytime and anyplace, said on Truth Social he’d be there, too, adding, “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!” Soon after that, they agreed to the second debate on ABC.

“Trump says he’ll arrange his own transportation,” Biden wrote on X, working in a jab about the perks of incumbency. “I’ll bring my plane, too. I plan on keeping it for another four years.”

The swiftness with which the matchups came together reflects how each of the two unpopular candidates thinks he can get the better of his opponent in a head-to-head showdown. Trump and his team are convinced the debates will exacerbate voters’ concerns about Biden’s age and competence, while Biden’s team believes Trump’s often-incendiary rhetoric will remind voters of why they voted him out of the White House four years ago.

The presidential debates, always a critical moment on the political calendar, could be particularly important in a year when voters are underwhelmed with their choices and have expressed concerns about the candidates’ advanced ages — Biden is 81 and Trump 77.

Sprightly on social media, the rivals traded barbs — each claiming victory the last time they faced off in 2020.

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020, since then he hasn’t shown up for a debate,” Biden said in a post on X. “Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal.”

Trump, for his part, said Biden was the “WORST debater I have ever faced - He can’t put two sentences together!”

The June debate is likely to cap a busy and unsettled stretch, following the likely conclusion of Trump’s criminal hush money trial in New York , foreign trips by Biden to France and Italy, the end of the Supreme Court’s term, and the expected start of two criminal trials for the president’s son, Hunter Biden.

CNN said that its debate would be held at 9 p.m. ET in its Atlanta studios with no audience present in a break from recent precedent. Moderators will be anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, CNN said. ABC did not offer details on where its event would be held, but the network said it would be moderated by anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis. Disagreements about moderators and rules were some of the questions that prompted the formation of the Commission on Presidential Debates in 1987.

The two campaigns and television networks had held weeks of informal talks on ways to circumvent the commission’s grip on presidential debates following years of complaints and perceived slights, according to two people familiar with the matter who spoke about internal discussions on condition of anonymity.

Biden’s campaign had proposed excluding third-party candidates, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. , from the debates outright. Under the debate commission’s rules, Kennedy or other third-party candidates could qualify if they secured ballot access sufficient to claim 270 Electoral Votes and polled at 15% or higher in a selection of national surveys.

Both CNN and ABC announced the same qualification threshold, saying candidates will need to reach at least 15% in four separate national polls of registered or likely voters that meet their standards.

In response, Kennedy accused Biden and Trump of “trying to exclude me from their debate because they are afraid I would win.” He said, “Keeping viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy.”

The debates will be the first televised general election matchups to be hosted by individual networks. The 1960 debates, which helped show the power of the medium to influence public opinion, were hosted jointly by the leading networks of the day. Before the commission was formed in 1987, the presidential debates of 1976, 1980 and 1984 were organized by the League of Women Voters.

Plans for a vice presidential debate have yet to be announced.

Trump has been pushing for more and earlier debates, arguing voters should be able to see the two men face off well before early voting begins in September. He has even proposed a debate outside the Manhattan courthouse where he is currently on trial. He also has been taunting Biden with an empty lectern at some of his rallies.

In a memorandum to Biden campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon on Wednesday, Trump senior campaign advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles challenged Biden to agree to at least two additional debates, suggesting one be held each month, with events in June, July, August and September, in addition to a vice presidential debate.

“Additional dates will allow voters to have maximum exposure to the records and future visions of each candidate,” they wrote.

Trump later posted on Truth Social that he had agreed to a third debate, this one hosted by Fox.

“Please let this TRUTH serve to represent that I hereby accept debating Crooked Joe Biden on FoxNews. The date will be Wednesday, October 2nd. The Hosts will be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Thank you, DJT!” he wrote.

O’Malley Dillon responded with a statement accusing Trump of having “a long history of playing games with debates: complaining about the rules, breaking those rules, pulling out at the last minute, or not showing up at all.”

“No more games. No more chaos, no more debate about debates. We’ll see Donald Trump on June 27th in Atlanta – if he shows up,” she wrote.

In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt Wednesday morning, Trump had raised his own doubts about whether Biden would show, and offered his own suggestions. He said the debates “should go two hours” with both men standing, and he also pushed for larger venues.

“It’s just more exciting,” he said.

Biden’s campaign has long held a grudge against the nonpartisan commission, accusing it of failing to evenly apply its rules during the 2020 Biden-Trump matchups — most notably when it didn’t enforce its COVID-19 testing rules on Trump and his entourage.

O’Malley Dillon on Wednesday sent a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates to say that Biden’s campaign objected to its proposed debate dates in the fall, which would come after some Americans begin to vote, repeating a complaint also voiced by the Trump campaign. She also voiced frustrations over past rule violations and the commission’s insistence on holding the debates before a live audience.

“The debates should be conducted for the benefit of the American voters, watching on television and at home — not as entertainment for an in-person audience with raucous or disruptive partisans and donors,” she wrote.

There also was little love lost for the commission from Trump, who objected to technical issues at his first debate with Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016 and was upset when a 2020 debate with Biden was canceled after the Republican came down with COVID-19. The Republican National Committee had already promised not to work with the commission on the 2024 contests.

The Trump campaign issued a statement on May 1 that said of the debate schedule offered by the commission: “This is unacceptable.”

The commission said in a Wednesday statement, “The American public deserves substantive debates from the leading candidates for president and vice president.” It said its mission is “to ensure that such debates reliably take place and reach the widest television, radio and streaming audience.”
