And Next Comes L - Hyperlexia Resources

Printable Social Stories for Kids

Social stories were a total game changer for us. They have helped my son get through things like attending a funeral for the first time and managing the sensory overload that comes along with filling up the bathtub.

However, searching for the perfect social story can be quite time consuming. (Speaking from experience here).

And even then, you might not find the right social story. It might use clipart instead of real photos. It might be missing key steps like the one we had years ago that was missing the important step of flushing the toilet! It just might not be detailed enough.

Then there are social stories that are far from neurodiversity affirming and have not-so-great wording and text. Seriously, there are so many problematic social stories out there!

And sometimes you're just looking for an inexpensive or free option and it doesn't exist or is impossible to find.

So that's why you'll find tons of neurodiversity affirming social stories here (both free and paid). You'll also find tons of free options that you can use in a pinch or as inspiration to write your own. It's why you'll also find some templates for writing your own.

There are hundreds of  printable social stories for kids  below. So, you're bound to find something that fits your needs!

What is a Social Story?

Social stories are short narratives that describe a social situation, skill, event, or concept in a clear and structured way. They use illustrations or photos to support the text while explaining a particular topic in detail.

These social narratives can be used to guide a child through a new or unfamiliar situation, such as a birthday party or funeral, or teach a specific skill, such as putting on deodorant or toilet training. They can also be used to improve the understanding of different social cues and abstract social concepts.

Seriously, social stories are a great visual tool that can:

  • Teach different social skills
  • Reduce anxiety about a new or unfamiliar situation
  • Help with transitions
  • Break down a task into smaller steps
  • Improve communication (especially if they provide written scripts of things you can say)
  • ...and so much more!

For a more detailed description, as well as tips for writing your own social stories, read more here .

Social stories are a great tool to use with any child, but they are most often used with autistic kids. They're also really wonderful to use with hyperlexic kids , in particular, given that they are visual learners and that their strength is reading. So social narratives are a great way to lean into a hyperlexic child's strengths .

Now that you know what social stories are, let's take a look at some printable social story examples (some are free and some are paid).

Free Social Stories for Kids

The PBIS World Book

social story for homework

Social Stories

Why should i do it:.

  • Helps teach students routines, expectations, and behavioral standards in an alternative way
  • Reinforces correct behavior
  • Information presented in a story format
  • Provides visual examples of behavior expectations
  • Provides a more personalized and tailored behavioral intervention
  • Helps involve students in the learning process
  • Works well with students on the autism spectrum and those with ADD/ADHD

When should I do it:

  • When a student fails to grasp social norms, routines, and expectations, like walking down the hall, using restroom facilities, following lunch procedure, using manners, using greetings, asking for help properly, etc
  • When a student is on the autism spectrum or has ADD/ADHD
  • When a student is disorganized, unprepared, disheveled
  • When a student needs reinforcement of class rules, routines, procedures, etc
  • When a student lacks social skills
  • When a student does not respond to cues, redirection, refocusing, etc
  • When a student fails to complete work, homework, expectations, etc

How do I do it:

  • You can either look for a pre-made social story in the resources below or create your own using the resources below or you can take one from the resources and adapt it to your needs
  • Ask your Resource Room teacher for assistance if you need help creating a social story or getting it started
  • Create a list or outline of the steps in the routine or procedure the student needs work or reinforcement on, like behavior in the hall, using the bathroom, starting work, asking for help, etc
  • For each step of the process, develop a simple sentence to explain the step, for example “open your desk and get your book out”, or “walk to the door and knock”, etc
  • Next to each step and sentence, utilize a picture to represent the action, either a generic image or graphic, or an actual picture of the student performing that step
  • When the social story is complete, review it with the student daily before they perform that routine, procedure, or activity
  • After the student learns the social story well, have them review it on their own before they perform that routine, procedure, or activity
  • You may slowly wean the student off the social story as they consistently perform the task correctly

Teaching Social Skills with Social Stories

Teaching With Social Stories

WHAT ARE SOCIAL STORIES?

Do you use social stories in your classroom?

Social stories are simple stories that describe common situations which occur frequently in the classroom.

Social stories:

  • state a situation clearly
  • possible feelings that may occur
  • self-talk strategies that can be helpful
  • the desired outcomes.

These stories have been especially helpful for my younger students, students with autism, or students with self-regulation problems.

Over the last 20+ years of teaching, I have seen many students struggle to navigate the complex social situations in the classroom. The many transitions and social dynamics can cause “ big emotions” that can be overwhelming to their young minds if they don’t yet possess the right tools to manage them.

Social stories give students the opportunity to learn, practice, and demonstrate appropriate social skills.

social stories

HOW MUCH TIME WILL I NEED?

As the school year starts, I choose topics that are likely to be relevant, such as fire drills, bathroom expectations or walking in the hallway. We focus on one topic per week, and spend a bit of time each day reviewing the key concept.

Here’s a typical week of planning (about 20 minutes a day):

Monday  – Introduce a new topic (using a teacher script), and read a social story about it. Discuss the concepts and give students their own one-page folded mini-book versions to make.

Tuesday – Review the story using posters as a reference; students complete a journal writing template or printing task.

Wednesday – Read or perform a one-page partner play about the topic, or role play.

Thursday – Discussion: Invite students to discuss whether they have used the strategies from our social story. Complete a cut/sort activity about making good choices.

Friday – Final review of concepts in fun ways, such as using a board game, making a flip-book, or creating “brag tag” rewards for that topic. Students can bring all of their work home so parents can reinforce the concepts outside of school.

WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL STORY TOPICS?

Ideally, your topics should arise from situations that occur in your classroom. Whenever you have to help to mediate a conflict or notice students having difficulty, take a moment to make a note of it so you can make a social story about it.

Here are some of the social story topics I have covered in my own classroom:

★ I Can Use Calm Down Strategies ★ I Can Be Assertive ★ Fire Drills ★ I Can Raise My Hand (Wait To Talk) ★ I Can Clean Up Quickly ★ I Won’t Interrupt (ie. when adults are talking) ★ Losing A Game – I Can Handle It! ★ I Can Use My Inside Voice ★ Mistakes Are Okay (I Can Learn From Them) ★ Being Flexible When Plans Change ★ Taking Good Care Of Belongings ★ Personal Space ★ I Can Focus On My Tasks ★ I Can Keep Trying (Practice and Perseverance) ★ I Can Share ★ I-Feel Messages for Conflict Resolution ★ Appropriate Behavior In The Hallway ★ I Am A Problem Solver ★ I Have Good Manners ★ Following Playground Rules ★ Asking To Play ★ Including Others ★ Giving My Best Effort ★ Smooth Transitions ★ Taking Turns ★ Substitute Teachers ★ Lining Up Quietly ★ Washing Hands/Prevent Spreading Germs ★ Being Kind ★ Saying Sorry ★ Respecting Differences – culture/appearance/ability ★ Spelling Strategies – stretch the word, listen for sounds, guess and move on

HOW TO BEGIN MAKING YOUR OWN STORIES

Here’s a quick guide to creating social stories with your students:

  • Think about which social issues are causing the MOST disruption in your classroom right now.
  • Write down what the problem is, and invite an open discussion with your students to gather specific details. Brainstorm and record ideas.
  • Validate your students’ feelings when they are expressed, and then discuss the desired and expected behavior. Be sure to explain the reason for rules, such as safety or consideration for another student’s learning.
  • Turn your brainstorming notes into a “story” in either first or third person. For example: “When I am walking in the hallway it might be hard to keep my voice quiet. It’s important to be quiet so I don’t interrupt other students. When I want to shout in the hall, I can use self-talk to remind myself that others are working. My teacher and friends will be happy if I am quiet in the hallway.”
  • You can turn the story into a poster, or make it into a book with one sentence on each page.
  • Invite students to illustrate the books! Illustrations are particularly important for younger students.

AFTER THE STORY:

Reinforcing concepts.

As I mentioned above, I spend about a week on each topic. That means about 20 minutes each day talking, thinking, sharing and writing. What kind of activities can you do to reinforce these essential skills?

I have some ideas for you:

1. PARTNER PLAYS : My s tudents LOVE reading partner plays in front of the class, or in small groups. We make our stories relevant by using situations that have actually happened in class (see pictures below).

2. DISCUSSION CARDS : Whenever we have a few minutes, we grab a discussion card to have a quick talk with the class. These cards can describe a situation and ask open-ended questions about it. These cards also make great journal prompts! ( See pictures below ). They are also a great way to spontaneously review previous topics so they aren’t forgotten.

3. DESK STRIPS :  Many students benefit from having their own copy of a social story on their desk. It’s a visual reminder to make good choices and to use self-control. ( See pictures below )

4. READ AND SORT :  Social stories are straight forward by design. They state the desired behaviors clearly and succinctly. Read and Sort  activities are perfect for this kind of story; students decide if a described behavior is a good or not-so-good. ( See pictures below ).

MORE SPECIFIC ACTIVITY IDEAS

5. PRINTING:  My younger students review our topics by making their own poster. The topic is stated in a short sentence for them to print. ( See the picture below ).

6. REFERENCE POSTERS: Review each story in a single page for quick reference. These posters can be hung on the wall so you can reference them easily. ( See the picture below ).

7. JOURNAL PROMPTS: Using journal templates, invite students to write their own ideas about each social skill. ( See the picture below ).

8. REWARD COUPONS: Reinforce good choices with simple reward coupons! Students love coloring and collecting these. ( See the picture below ).

9. REMINDER WATCHES: My students love wearing paper watches and having a social skill reminder right there on their arm is a great visual reminder, especially for ideas such as interrupting or using an inside voice. ( See the picture below ).

10. GAME BOARDS: Games are a great way to reinforce ideas in a fun way. In this board game, students land on a spot and read the question. Both players discuss their ideas before moving on with the game. I often play this game in front of the whole class with the game board under a document camera so everyone can see and share ideas. ( See the picture below ).

PERSONAL CONNECTIONS

If possible, try to create or use social stories that are presented in both first person and third person. This approach allows students to view a problem in different ways and make personal connections with the experiences being described.

You can take a look at the different options I use in my classroom by clicking HERE .

class books

REVIEWING TOPICS THROUGH THE YEAR

There’s no point in teaching social skills if the the taught skills don’t transfer into my students’ everyday interactions with their peers and other people in the school. Hang the posters from each lesson on the wall so that you can refer back to them whenever a situation arises.

Having these visual reminders on the wall is so helpful, especially for little ones.

TEACHER TIP: If a student is having trouble internalizing a particular skill, I choose them to be “in charge” of making us a class poster for that topic! This makes them feel like an “expert” for that particular skill, and makes it more likely that they will focus on improving it throughout each day. Give it a try and you’ll see what I mean!

Younger students may want to use posters like the ones below as reference.

10 Free Printable Social Stories for Kids

Teaching everyday skills through stories.

Printable social stories books for kids called I Can Join an Activity, I Can Keep My Hands and Feet to Myself, and I Can Be Safe During a Fire Drill.

Social stories are a learning tool that helps communicate information to children with disabilities, including autism, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. These stories are most often used with autistic children to help them learn how to approach and act in situations like fire drills, exchanges with peers, or how to handle emotions. It’s important to have social stories for kids that you can personalize, and we’ve got you covered with a free printable bundle of 10 social stories!

Get your free printable social stories bundle by filling out our quick form.

What are social stories?

How do i use a social story.

  • What’s included in the free printable bundle of social stories for kids?

The idea is that autistic children or children with intellectual disabilities need explicit instruction in what to do in social situations because they may not read social cues. So, stories about how to introduce themselves or share can teach these skills that other kids learn more intuitively. And social stories that tell kids how to handle routines, like fire drills, can help them anticipate what’s coming up so they can respond appropriately.

Social stories need to clearly show:

  • The setting or event
  • Things that typically happen in that setting or event
  • Actions or behaviors that are expected in that setting or event

Then, the student can explain what will happen and follow the steps during the real-world event.

The key to using social stories is to present them just before the situation arises. For example, a child will review a social story about how to talk with a peer in the cafeteria before they go to the cafeteria. Then, they can apply the steps they learned, including phrases to use to start a conversation, when they go into the cafeteria.

Tips for using a social story

Personalized, relevant, and applicable social stories work best.

  • Create the story with the student, using images the student can understand and photos where appropriate.
  • Read the story just before the event that they describe.
  • Remind the student of the story’s key points. Talk about: What does the story tell us to do?

As the student learns the skill, you can phase out the story or create a more advanced story to tackle the next skill.

Social Stories for Young Children: Toddlers, Preschoolers, Kindergarteners, and Elementary Students

Benefits of social stories across age groups, for toddlers and preschoolers.

Social stories can be a powerful tool in aiding the development of interaction skills in toddlers and preschoolers. These narrative tools, including social stories for toddlers and preschool social stories, help young children understand and navigate the complex social world around them. By depicting realistic situations and behaviors, social stories for preschoolers provide clear examples of how to interact with others, manage emotions, and understand social cues. Social emotional stories for preschoolers specifically can play a crucial role in emotional development, helping children to identify and express their feelings in a healthy way.

For Kindergarten and Elementary Students

As children grow, social stories for kindergarten and elementary students continue to offer significant benefits. These stories expand on the foundational skills introduced in preschool, addressing more complex interactions and emotional challenges. Kindergarten social stories can support children in adjusting to the structured environment of school, teaching important concepts like cooperation, empathy, and personal space. For older children, social stories for elementary students can delve deeper into the nuances of etiquette, peer relationships, and self-regulation.

Crafting Social Stories for Different Needs

Addressing everyday challenges.

Creating social stories for everyday situations is a practical approach to teaching young learners how to navigate common challenges. Stories can cover scenarios like sharing toys, taking turns, and understanding personal space, making abstract social rules more concrete and understandable. These narratives are not only educational but also relatable, making learning engaging for children.

Supporting Emotional Development

Social stories are equally effective in supporting emotional development, offering a framework for children to understand their own emotions and those of others. By providing context and language around feelings and reactions, social stories can foster emotional understanding and self-regulation, critical components of social-emotional learning.

Social Story Examples for Early Learning

Social skills stories for preschoolers.

Preschoolers can benefit greatly from stories that illustrate basic concepts, such as friendship, empathy, and respect. For instance, social story examples for preschoolers might include narratives about waiting your turn to slide at the playground or using words to express feelings. These stories serve as both teaching tools and conversation starters, encouraging young children to think and talk about situations.

Social Stories for Kindergarten

For children entering kindergarten, stories can help ease the transition and prepare them for a new social environment. Kindergarten social stories might focus on classroom behavior, respecting differences, and making new friends, directly supporting kindergarten readiness by aligning with educational and societal expectations.

Social Stories for Toddlers

In the early stages of development, toddlers can start to learn about social interaction through simple stories. These narratives, focused on basic principles like kindness and sharing, lay the groundwork for more complex social learning in the future.

Implementing Social Stories in Educational Settings

In the classroom.

Teachers play a crucial role in integrating social stories into the educational process. By incorporating stories into daily routines and lessons, educators can provide consistent reinforcement of social skills and emotional understanding. Utilizing resources like free social stories for preschoolers and platforms like PlayToLearn social stories, teachers can access a wealth of materials to support diverse learning needs.

Parents can also use stories at home to further support their child's learning and development. Tips for effectively using stories include choosing stories that align with the child's current interests or challenges, reading together regularly, and discussing the story's themes and lessons. This collaborative approach not only reinforces learning but also strengthens the parent-child bond.

Social Stories for Kids Case Study: Bobby

Bobby is almost three years old. He is friendly, active, and enjoys playing with his friends at preschool. Bobby often has trouble with changes in his routine. His parents decided to move to Israel this summer, but are unsure about how to tell Bobby and help him with the difficult transition away from the only home he’s ever known.

When approaching a big transition or a challenging activity, I often recommend a social story to help introduce an idea while providing language and support. Social stories were originally developed for children with autism spectrum disorder to provide education and language for social interaction they otherwise had trouble navigating. Though that was their initial purpose, I find them a useful tool to support any child.

Having an individualized story with the child’s name, maybe even a picture or someone who looks like them, gives them automatic buy-in and ownership of an activity! Whether it’s a new idea like moving to another country or a challenging activity for them like taking turns, social stories provide individualized language and prompts that parents and caregivers can revisit to provide ongoing reinforcement.

Bobby’s parents and I worked together to create a social story about moving on Storyboard That. I explained we would pick simple pictures and words so the retelling of the story would be easy for Bobby to recall. By using simple pictures and straightforward language, Bobby will be able to “read” the book on his own or with a parent. Simple pictures let Bobby to focus on the idea instead of the details of a picture. Straightforward language allows Bobby to recall the story easily and use the language provided to discuss how he’s feeling or what comes next. We wanted to keep the story short, so it would be easy to talk about and recall. We broke the parts of their move down into six steps, focusing on positive phrasing to help keep an optimistic outlook.

Then the fun part! We designed characters on Storyboard That to look like each of the family members, using the “copy” tool to keep them consistent and quickly move them to the next cell. We used the search bar to find some of Bobby’s favorite toys (a red car and his stuffed bear) to put into the boxes. Other options to really individualize and help children get ready for changes are to include photographs of their new home or town. You can upload your own pictures to Storyboard That to use in your stories as well.

Moving Social Story | Free Social Stories for Preschoolers

The last step of the social story is working it into your everyday routine. To help a child understand a new event or to help change a behavior, consistency is key. Finding time everyday to read the story provides opportunities to discuss the activity, give support, and reinforce the behaviors you expect. It’s also helpful to leave the physical story out for a child to explore on their own. Just like adults, some children learn verbally, others learn visually. It’s important to give them as much access to the story as possible. I printed two copies of the story for Bobby’s family and laminated them. Mom and Dad gave a copy to his preschool as well, so the story and language stays the same - no matter who is talking about it with him!

Working With Groups

Individual stories are a great tool, but sometimes a group of children (or a whole class!) is having trouble with an activity. I recently wrote a social story with a preschool teacher who was frustrated at the lack of sharing in her classroom. Instead of using a particular name, since all of the kids like superheroes, we decided we would make a story about “super sharers”. This open label allows all kids in the class to participate and show how they are a super sharer. The teacher even got special superhero stickers for reinforcement when she hears a child use the phrasing in the story we wrote or sees a “super sharer” moment.

Free Super Sharer Social Story | Social Story Examples for Preschoolers

There are lots of online resources if you’re looking for inspiration (see list below) for how to start a social story. Remember some key principles as you write:

Keep language simple to promote repetition and recall.

Keep pictures lifelike and straightforward, so kids don’t get bogged down on detail.

Keep an optimistic and positive tone. Instead of “don’t hit”, try “we keep hands on our own body”.

Keep it short!

Make copies accessible to kids to explore throughout the day.

Build time into your routine to review the story each day.

Social stories are a great way to introduce new ideas, activities or solutions to difficult behaviors. Use individualized stories consistently and watch pro-social behaviors, new language, and new ideas emerge!

How to Effectively Utilize Social Stories for Behavior Management

Identify target behaviors or challenges.

Identify specific behaviors or challenges that need to be addressed through behavior management strategies. Consider behaviors that may require intervention, such as social interactions, emotional regulation, self-control, or transitions.

DEVELOP BEHAVIOR-FOCUSED SOCIAL STORIES

Develop social stories that specifically address the targeted behaviors or challenges. Write narratives that explain the expected behavior, provide clear guidelines, and offer alternative behaviors or coping strategies. Ensure the stories are age-appropriate and engaging for the students.

USE VISUALS AND PERSONALIZATION

Enhance the effectiveness of social stories by incorporating visuals, such as illustrations or photographs, to support comprehension and engagement. Personalize the stories by including the student's name, relevant settings, or familiar characters to increase relevance and connection.

TEACH ALTERNATIVE BEHAVIORS AND COPING STRATEGIES

Use social stories as a platform to explicitly teach alternative behaviors or coping strategies. Break down the desired behaviors into smaller, manageable steps and provide examples of appropriate responses in various situations. Reinforce the benefits and positive outcomes of using these strategies.

PROMOTE SELF-REGULATION AND SELF-MONITORING

Support students in developing self-regulation and self-monitoring skills through social stories. Teach them to recognize their emotions, understand triggers, and implement self-calming or problem-solving techniques. Encourage reflection and self-assessment after reading the social stories.

REINFORCE AND GENERALIZE

Provide consistent reinforcement and positive feedback when students demonstrate the targeted behaviors or use the taught coping strategies. Reinforce their efforts and progress by acknowledging their achievements. Support the generalization of these behaviors by discussing how they can be applied in different settings and situations.

How to Calm Turbulent Transitions Back to (In-Person) School

Returning back to in-person school for students with adhd and autism means disrupted routines, uncomfortable transitions, and emotional dysregulation. here, learn how parents and educators can use social stories to smooth those rough spots, especially for young children..

social story for homework

One year into distance learning, many of our children had settled into a familiar — if not altogether comfortable — groove. Some remote learners who typically struggle with friendships, emotional regulation, social cues, and relationships actually came to appreciate the break from the typical social stressors associated with school. Then — one after another — schools began to open their doors to full-time, in-person learning once again.

Many of our children are now expected to transition seamlessly back into the classroom. But when life tampers with schedules and routines , even ultimately for the child’s benefit, transitions are seldom without potholes and steep hills. Being told to abruptly stop one thing and start another is a very common trigger for problem behaviors, withdrawal, avoidance, refusal, and meltdowns, especially for children with ADHD , autism, emotional and developmental challenges, and others with similar learning profiles.

How can we, as parents and educators, help ease this transition back to school in a way that alleviates some of our kids’ unexpected behaviors and reactions while promoting appropriate social behaviors?

I recommend using social stories to prepare our children and to teach them the appropriate reactions and behaviors associated with the transition back to in-person learning.

What Are Social Stories?

Social Stories were developed and created in the early ’90s by a pediatrician named Dr. Carol Gray. Her goal was to help and support children by creating narratives that illustrate situations, problems, and ultimately, how to deal with them. Social stories are used to teach social norms, improve social skills, and reduce anxiety. Initially developed for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder , social stories have proven beneficial for many children with common anxieties and other behavioral, social, developmental, and cognitive differences.

Transitioning back to in-person learning after a year of remote education is triggering anxiety and social concerns in many families; creating and reading social stories to prepare your child may help alleviate some of the fear of the unknown.

[ Use This Free Guide to Improve Your Students’ Social Skills ]

Your social story should focus on the individualized needs of your child. For example, if your child has social anxieties or insecurities, focus on socialization during the return to school. If your child has difficulty with transitions, focus your story on navigating these changes. If your child has executive functioning challenges , organization and time management could be the focus of the story. If your child needs to focus on impulse control, your story could center on emotional regulation. Some children may require multiple stories. Every child is different, with different needs. The key is to individualize the story and focus on the child’s needs to make the story a relevant teaching tool during this period of disruption and discomfort.

How to Create Social Stories

There are various social stories apps and computer software programs, ranging from no-cost to high-cost options, designed to guide and power the creation process.

You can also create social stories using existing pictures of your child or images of a generic student going on the bus, sitting at a desk at school, socializing with friends, eating lunch, etc.

When creating a social story, it is helpful to involve the child. This allows for ownership and may increase interest, accountability, and compliance.

When creating a social story for your child or student, make sure the story:

  • has a specific goal that targets desired appropriate social behaviors,
  • is accurate and relevant to the transition back to in-person learning ,
  • is of interest to the child,
  • uses positive and descriptive language while answering where, when, who, what, and why

Bari Glazer, a special educator and autism specialist from Massachusetts, recommends that social stories include descriptive and directive sentences, along with sentences of reassurance. Additionally, Glazer stresses the importance of creating stories using the child’s current level of comprehension needs in terms of visuals, the complexity of language, the length of the overall story, and the number of words vs. white space on each page as areas of consideration.

Here is an example of a social story for an early elementary student. One sentence per page plus a visual is appropriate.

How to Use Social Stories as a Teaching Tool

When preparing and discussing the return to in-person learning, set aside some time to read the story to your child or students. Make sure the child is attentive, relaxed, ready, and open to learning. Read the book several times throughout the preparation process.

Initially, read the story as you would any other story. Glazer recommends making extra copies for others, such as grandparents and babysitters, and leaving a copy next to the child’s bed for a bedtime story. Have your child read the story to/with you. In addition, discuss personal experiences related to the social story and make connections to real-world situations.

As a supplementary activity in preparation for in-person learning, you and your child could practice role-playing and discuss fun story extensions while your provide positive feedback regarding expected behaviors and outcomes.

In the days leading to the return to in-person learning, keep the social stories accessible so that your child can review them independently. Once they are back in-person learning, they can continue to refer to expectations, solutions, and guides inside the social story as warm reminders of how prepared and ready they are to venture back to in-person learning.

The transition back to in-person school will take time — that is just a fact. Even as adults, change and transitions are difficult . As our children shift back to in-person learning, the use of social stories, continuous communication, and preparation will undoubtedly provide a sense of readiness and calm by addressing individualized and specific needs — and by demonstrating that, though transitions are tough, we are tougher.
