If, after reading through the tips and guidelines for answering the question of why you like accounting, you’re still unsure of how to construct your answer, explore some of the example answers below.

We also included two other variations of this question for more senior-level accountancy jobs: why did you choose accounting as a career, and why are you interested in accounting and finance.

Why do you want to be an accountant example answer

“What first drove me to pursue a career as a certified public accountant is my love for spending my days dealing with numbers and skills in handling financial accounts. Now that I’ve been working in the industry for the better part of five years, I’ve come to love the ease I provide businesses when it comes to managing their finances. I find it extremely rewarding to help clients organize and understand their financial records and documents because I can tell how much of a positive influence it has on their professional lives. One working relationship in particular that comes to mind was when I was assisting a restaurant in their taxes and record keeping, who later that year saw a drastic improvement in their deductions and organization. The owner of the business was so grateful for the aid, and I felt good about making a positive impact on their company.”
“I’m the kind of person who gets enjoyment out of the analysis that comes along with working in accounting. I find it interesting to consider varying aspects of a financial portfolio for cost, profit, and potential risk, and later see how my predictions ultimately faired. Throughout my last position, my supervisor noticed how much I liked analysis and put me in charge of a financial reporting team of five. This experience furthered my passion for both analytical accounting and leadership roles. I enjoy the feeling of making a difference in the company I work for.”
“One of the skills that make accounting work and tasks very enjoyable for me is bookkeeping. I think that tracking a company’s financial transactions is not only a crucial part of keeping a business on track; it’s also quite fun. When I first began working as an accountant, many of the procedures that come with bookkeeping, like payroll, were unfamiliar and presented as challenges. However, I thrive in a challenging environment and believe this only furthered my interest in it and accounting in general.”

Why did you choose accounting as a career example answer

“I chose accounting as a career because it allows me to combine my passion for helping people with my analytical skills. I believe that by providing accurate financial information and insights, I can contribute to a team making informed decisions, ultimately aiding them in achieving our goals. I also find it really satisfying to unravel complex financial data and translate it into meaningful solutions that positively impact people’s lives. Accounting’s role in maintaining financial stability and growth aligns perfectly with my desire to contribute to others’ success while utilizing my expertise in a meaningful and rewarding way.”

Why are you interested in accounting and finance answer

“I’ve always had a knack for numbers, but it’s more than that. I chose accounting and finance because I genuinely enjoy helping people navigate their financial journeys. It’s like being a financial detective , piecing together the puzzle of someone’s finances and finding ways to optimize their situation. Whether it’s a small business trying to grow or an individual planning their future, I believe my knack for numbers can make a meaningful impact. Plus, there’s a certain satisfaction in simplifying the complex and being a go-to resource for financial clarity. It’s like helping others achieve their goals, one balance sheet at a time.”

Once you’ve got a clear picture of the steps that lead you to a good answer for why you like accounting, you may still need some tips to help craft the most impressive answer.

Be honest. While you want to give the best possible answer that will land you the position you’re seeking, you never want to be insincere in your response. You shouldn’t resort to stating a reason for enjoying accounting that you think will be impressive to the interviewer.

Research the company and position you’re interviewing for. You should go into an interview for any job with some background knowledge about the company and position you’re being recruited for. When preparing for any spoken event, you should cater to the audience you’re hoping to reach. In this case, the hiring manager represents a potential employer for an accounting job.

While researching the company and position will likely be helpful for a few questions during your interview , it’ll be especially useful for considering your answer to why you like accounting. Companies will often have a professional focus and highlight their company culture , and an answer that matches these values will stand out from the competition .

Practice your answer. While many applicants will find this tip silly, it can dramatically improve your performance and relieve the pressure of an interview. That age-old saying of practice making perfect is grounded in reality.

Performing a mock interview with a friend or family member that includes the question “why do you like accounting?” can help you get comfortable with articulating your answer. Practicing with another person can be constructive for gaining objective feedback about your answers and speaking skills.

Be conversational. Other questions that you may be given might have a more serious and hard skill-based tone. When the hiring manager asks you why you like accounting, it’s an excellent opportunity to make the interview more conversational. Speaking about their passions and motivations comes naturally to a lot of people.

Be concise. Since the question of “what do you like about accounting?” is broad and open-minded, many candidates may make the mistake of giving a long-winded answer.

Even in questions that invite a longer explanation (like this one), you should try to express yourself succinctly. Avoid irrelevant details.

While your potential employer cares about your bullet point experience and skills, that’s not necessarily what they want to know more about during an interview . They’ve already become familiar with your resume and have decided to invite you to an interview based on these credentials. During the interview, they’re more interested in what makes accounting your dream job .

The purpose of an interview is to get to know you more personally and gather insight into what kind of employee you’ll be. In terms of a career in an accounting role, the question of “why do you like accounting?” is used to assess your motivations and passions are in the financial field.

In a field that can often have the stereotype of being uneventful, an interviewer can be genuinely interested in why you went into the field and what elements of it are most exciting for you. Most employers seek applicants who are passionate about the field and role they’re seeking because this type of energy makes for a productive employee.

This information can also be helpful if they decide to hire you because it gives them a good idea of what kinds of tasks you’d be suited for. People who are enthusiastic about the work they’re doing often have the best outcome.

Your answer to why you enjoy accounting says a lot about your personality, work ethic, and motivations.

The Journey to Achieving My Dream Career: Becoming an Accountant

Aubrey McClendon, an American businessman and the chief of American Energy Partners, once expressed his belief that the best way to truly understand business is to be an accountant (McClendon). The accountant profession is one that I aspire to pursue in the future. While some may view accountants as individuals solely responsible for managing cash flow, the role of an accountant encompasses a deeper understanding of business and possesses more capabilities than commonly perceived. To become a successful accountant, it is essential to be aware of the job qualifications, weigh the pros and cons, evaluate career satisfaction, and recognize the contributions made to society.

One critical step towards achieving the dream job of becoming an accountant is understanding the necessary job qualifications. When embarking on any career path, regardless of personal interest, it is crucial to familiarize oneself with the requirements and assess one’s suitability for the role. There are two primary qualifications for aspiring accountants. Firstly, honesty and loyalty are of utmost importance. While the concept of honesty may seem simple, practicing it can be challenging. A study examining undergraduate accounting students’ honesty and perceptions of dishonest behavior found that 54% of accounting students admitted to cheating in college, similar to other business majors (52% reported cheating) (source). This statistic may be disheartening to accounting educators, as it suggests that students who cheat in college are more likely to engage in dishonest behavior in their professional careers. However, I disagree with this perspective. While cheating is unacceptable and should not be condoned, it does not mean that individuals are incapable of change. Mistakes can serve as valuable learning experiences and contribute to personal growth. Honesty remains a fundamental principle for accountants, who must consistently act with professionalism and integrity. The second job requirement for accountants is obtaining a relevant accounting license. The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is a crucial credential for aspiring accountants. According to the article “Why Are You Not a CPA?” by Tapis, the CPA exam covers a wide range of topics in depth. This comprehensive exam necessitates candidates to memorize and understand a significant amount of material. I concur with the idea that the CPA license not only covers various topics but also tests candidates’ comprehensive knowledge. Drawing from my personal experience, I prepared for a similar license in Taiwan, which took me at least a year of dedication. Although I did not pass the exam, the time and effort invested were worthwhile. Earning a CPA license is a significant achievement that highlights an individual’s exceptional commitment. In my opinion, showcasing one’s skills through obtaining a CPA license can capture the attention of businesses and accounting firms, making individuals more appealing candidates.

Another aspect to consider when pursuing a career in accounting is weighing the pros and cons of this dream job. There are numerous advantages to working in an accounting-related field. One of the most significant benefits is the assurance of job stability and security. The demand for accountants remains consistently high, as organizations require financial management and compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the accounting field offers a wide range of career paths and opportunities for growth. Accountants can specialize in various areas such as auditing, taxation, or financial planning, allowing individuals to pursue their specific interests within the field. Furthermore, the profession often provides competitive salaries and benefits, ensuring financial stability and a comfortable lifestyle. On the other hand, there are also potential drawbacks to consider. The nature of accounting work can be detail-oriented and repetitive, which may become monotonous for some individuals. Additionally, the profession often requires long hours, especially during busy periods such as tax season or year-end audits. This may result in work-life balance challenges and potential burnout. Nevertheless, these drawbacks can be managed through effective time management and prioritization, allowing accountants to maintain a fulfilling personal and professional life.

In conclusion, the pursuit of a dream career as an accountant involves understanding the job qualifications, evaluating the pros and cons, assessing career satisfaction, and recognizing the impact on society. By meeting the necessary qualifications, aspiring accountants can position themselves for success in the field. Furthermore, weighing the advantages and disadvantages provides individuals with a realistic perspective on what to expect in their chosen profession. Ultimately, the role of an accountant offers numerous opportunities for growth and contribution, making it an appealing career choice for those passionate about finance and business.

One of the major advantages of being an accountant is that they are difficult to replace. According to the book “Career As a Certified Public Accountant: CPA: Crunching the Numbers and Advising Businesses and Individuals on How to Manage Their Financial Affairs,” the author emphasizes the significant benefit of this profession, stating that as long as businesses exist, accountants will always have opportunities to practice their trade. Businesses will always need the services of a trained accountant who can closely monitor their financial records, offer advice, and help maintain profitability. This makes accountants indispensable in the business world, even in the face of artificial intelligence replacing many other jobs. Additionally, one of the greatest advantages of accountants is their decision-making abilities. While decision-making processes may be similar, each accountant has their own unique approach to problem-solving and financial statement preparation.

On the other hand, there are also some disadvantages to being an accountant. One significant drawback that not many people can accept is the requirement to work overtime. In the book “Accountants with Attitude: A Career Survey of Women and Men in the Profession,” the author states that a considerable percentage of accountants work more than the standard contractual hours. During the tax season, especially in May and June, accountants often have to put in extra hours. Accounting firms require their accountants to assist clients with filing their taxes, while accountants working in companies have to handle tax filings every two months. Those who are willing to sacrifice their time with family and friends can adapt to working overtime. Personally, I believe that working overtime is not always a negative thing. It shows dedication and respect for one’s work. Although it may mean sacrificing time with loved ones, it does not mean losing everything. Doing what one is passionate about keeps motivation high and prevents boredom.

In addition to understanding the job requirements and the pros and cons, it is important to consider career satisfaction in the field of accounting. Job satisfaction encompasses factors such as salary, benefits, and more. One of the first things people are curious about is the salary. In the accounting profession, gender equality is evident in terms of wages. All genders receive equal pay, and there is no need to worry about wage discrepancies because pay is dependent on skills. According to statistics from the article “How Much Can an Accountant Expect to Get Paid?,” accountants had a median salary of $69,350 in 2017. The top 25% earned $91,770, while the bottom 25% earned $54,250. Personally, I believe the salary of an accountant is fair. I believe that the more one contributes, the more they should earn. I would compensate for any lack of experience with perseverance and hard work to earn what I deserve. In terms of job satisfaction, the book “Career As a Certified Public Accountant: CPA: Crunching the Numbers and Advising Businesses and Individuals on How to Manage Their Financial Affairs” highlights the results of their research, stating that a significant percentage of men and women find enjoyment in their job and have no regrets about choosing accountancy as a career.

The feedback received was positive. Job satisfaction is influenced by factors such as working conditions, colleagues, benefits, and more. It is crucial to have a positive level of job satisfaction in any profession. Drawing from my personal experience, I had a brief internship in the accounting department of a company. I felt satisfied with my job despite the initial challenges due to my lack of experience. My colleagues were supportive, and I learned a lot from them. Despite the challenging nature of the work, I enjoyed it and felt a positive sense of satisfaction.

A successful accountant also contributes to society. There are various ways to make such contributions, whether directly or indirectly. Accounting-related jobs contribute to society indirectly. For example, assisting people in establishing organized systems is a form of contribution. In “The Accountant Who Changed The World” article, it is mentioned that before the introduction of double-entry accounting, people used to keep diaries and only counted their money at the end of the day. This innovation allowed merchants to have a comprehensive view of their business. The system of double-entry bookkeeping was created by merchants in Venice during the 1400s, using Arabic numerals for recording. I believe that those who developed this system made a significant contribution to society. Double-entry accounting is still widely used today because of its accuracy and ability to prevent errors. Additionally, many accountants volunteer to help people with filing taxes and provide basic tax knowledge. Although this assistance may not be direct, accountants strive to help those in need to the best of their abilities.

Understanding the qualifications, advantages and disadvantages, satisfaction, and contributions associated with a job is crucial. By considering these key elements, individuals can determine whether a particular job is suitable for them or not. My dream job is to become an accountant in the future. Honestly, I never thought I would be interested in accounting until I started learning about it. I discovered a passion for accounting and set a long-term goal to achieve my dream job. In the next five years, I plan to transfer to a university that offers an accounting major and dedicate my time and effort to prepare for the CPA license. Additionally, I will seize every opportunity to learn more and expand my horizons. I firmly believe that my dream job will eventually become a reality.

Congratulations! You’ve accomplished a major milestone: graduation. And while you’re no doubt eager to get out there and conquer the career world, you’re probably every bit anxious about finding, interviewing for and landing your dream accounting job. The good news is there are a lot of great opportunities right now for finance and accounting professionals , as unemployment rates continue to remain staggeringly low .

However, finding the right talent has proven to be a major challenge for most employers. When it’s all said and done, you shouldn’t have to worry about hunting for your first job resulting in “Hunger Games” levels of competition. Afterall, when you look at the numbers, it really is true — “the odds are ever in your favor.” Still, when that first opportunity comes knocking, you need to be prepared in order to land it. To help you, here are two things you can do to better prepare for your interview and, ultimately, secure your dream job.

Be prepared for the tough questions

Years of schooling led to this very moment: an interview for your dream job. However, when it comes to finally sitting down with your prospective employer, many people end up freezing. Fifty percent of Americans say they’ve done a job interview that they felt completely unprepared for . After all, poor preparation and out-of-control nerves make for a bad combination. But if you prepare ahead of time, you can avoid wasting all those years you spent training and crunching for exams. Here’s a list of some of the most commonly asked interview questions to get familiar with before your next interview.

  • What are your strengths/weaknesses?
  • Why should I hire you, what value will you bring to the company?
  • Tell me about yourself, what soft skills make you a good employee?
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • How do you handle tight deadlines?

Thinking through anticipated questions ahead of time can lessen your nerves and prevent you from getting caught by surprise. Practice your answers with a friend so you can sharpen your responses. Rehearsing your answers in advance also helps you build up a mental reservoir of past examples to pull from during the interview. The more you prepare and practice, the less likely you’ll be to panic when asked a tough question.

Strengthen your soft skills during the interview

Yes, you’re a degree-toting scholar who’s up on all the latest accounting software. But what about your soft skills? Most job candidates tend to deprioritize them, but they’re no less important in helping to tip the scales in your favor. Here are some of the soft skills you should strengthen beforehand to improve your chances of getting a call back for a second interview.

  • C ommunication ﹘ Millennial and Gen Z candidates carry a reputation for being very tech-savvy — but this comes at a cost. Many face challenges with face-to-face interactions, as they’ve grown up communicating behind the buffer of a screen. The upside? Many individuals in this age group crave more in-person collaboration . Join local chapters of finance organizations to hone your networking and communication skills. The more you expose yourself to talking to people face-to-face in or out of the office, the less intimidating it will be.
  • Organization ﹘ Knowing how to organize your daily priorities is crucial to any role you take on — both in and outside of work. If you can master this at home, you’ll see a great improvement to your work-life balance, which in turn, can make you even more productive at your job. Attempt to master prioritization and scheduling specific tasks throughout the day . You’ll complete assignments before deadlines, and with fewer revisions, too. Reach out to a mentor or supervisor to understand how they manage their work processes — your firm may have training that provides additional best practices for staying organized.
  • A daptability ﹘ Every employee reacts to change in the workplace differently. Some employees have difficulty dealing with changes, while others create solutions to adapt. Which one are you? Employers appreciate an employee who is flexible to change, so make sure you’re prepared to handle it when it comes. Challenge yourself by observing a peer you admire and learn how they cope with change in the workplace. As we’ve seen time and time again, change is the only constant in today’s post-digital workplace.
  • A nalytical ﹘ Critical thinking skills allow you to visualize and solve problems, which is a form of self-management. Obtaining these skills can help you see solutions to problems that may not be immediately obvious to everyone else. If you’re not a naturally analytical person, don’t fret, as it’s a skill that can be taught. Here’s a great article to help you improve your critical thinking skills.
  • T eamwork ﹘ Your ability to work well with others could make the difference between loving your job and finding it frustrating and unenjoyable. Work with your team to create team-building projects or events that bring you closer together. This will improve your ability to work together and create a stronger office culture at the same time.

Find an in-demand accounting opportunity that pays

There’s no greater time than the present to be working in the finance and accounting industry. In fact, the job outlook is promising for novice finance professionals. Preparation before you land the interview gives you the opportunity to identify your goals, measure your abilities and outline ways to play up your strengths.

Finding the perfect job that offers fair pay doesn’t have to be a struggle. Based on current industry trends, here’s a list of the most in-demand jobs in finance and accounting and their respective entry-level salaries.

  • Credit and collections clerks: $30,354 – $35,711
  • Accounts payable clerks: $32,372 – $37,101
  • Accounts receivable clerks: $33,303 – $38,104
  • Staff accountants: $54,336 – $64,984
  • Senior accountants: $59,965 – $71,012
  • Financial analysts: $63,189 – $75,820
  • Payroll managers: $64,251 – $78,387
  • Credit and collections managers: $75,212 – $90,777

When searching for jobs, read through the job descriptions and be honest with yourself — do you meet all the necessary criteria or is there room for improvement? This will help you determine where you should start when it comes time to negotiate your salary. Another great way to land your dream job with adequate pay is to work with a staffing agency which can help match your strengths to a position best-suited for you. By doing your homework ahead of time, you allow them to see your best assets.

My Dream Job Essay

Everyone aspires to be a successful person when they grow up. Since we were young, we have had goals to accomplish great things. There are many professions to choose from , however, a dream job is a specific career that we aspire to follow. Here are a few sample essays on "my dream job".

100 Words Essay On My Dream Job

My dream job is to become a police officer. Since I was a little child, my uncle, a police officer, has encouraged me to protect the streets near our house. I believe that certain traits are essential for all officers to possess. Police officers must be conscientious, dependable, and able to assume leadership roles. Being a successful officer would not be feasible without these qualities.

My Dream Job Essay

I have already taken and passed the required written tests to become a police officer. Additionally, I underwent physical examinations, which evaluated my stamina, vision, hearing, and agility. High school ROTC participation has aided my development of extra practice and discipline. After completing high school, I spent four to five months at a police academy honing my skills by performing criminal investigations and learning about my rights and local, state, and federal laws.

200 Words Essay On My Dream Job

My dream is to become a teacher. I've always wanted my life to make a difference. I cherish sharing my knowledge and instructing young people. Finally, I came to the realisation that it is my passion. Some people aspire to work as college professors or university instructors, but I would like to teach at a public school. I intend to devote the remainder of my life to teaching young children and students and I'm making a lot of effort to make my dream come true.

Reason I Chose Teaching

I picked teaching as my dream career for a variety of reasons. I enjoy teaching, which is why I started it first. I know that working as a teacher will allow me to lead a very dedicated life where I will be able to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. Another important factor is that I want to bring a change in our educational system. I wish to improve several problems in our educational system.

Although it won't be simple, that is what I want to achieve in life. To ensure that school is enjoyable for kids rather than a chore, I want to modify the existing system of teaching.

500 Words Essay On My Dream Job

A career that combines activity, talent or passion with a chance to make money is referred to as a dream job. A dream job could be in the performing arts, law, medicine, acting, or any other vocation. Having a dream job offers us the drive to take actions that will help us realise our goals.

A dream can inspire you to pursue your goals, as lacking motivation is akin to lacking the desire or inspiration to do so. Setting the correct path is the first step toward achieving your goals. If the appropriate objectives are defined, one can undoubtedly realise their ambition.

Setting a goal is similar to making a strategy for each step and taking it one at a time. The key to achieving success in life is to have a clear goal in mind. Even though sometimes, not all of your dreams may come true, you should continue to have plans and keep working on achieving them.

My Dream Job : Doctor

My childhood dream has always been to become a doctor. I know the suffering of those who live in poverty and sometimes pass away due to lack of access to expensive medical care. There is no more extraordinary service than providing healthcare to the sick and poor people who suffer greatly in the absence of modern healthcare facilities. After hearing and witnessing some unfortunate incidents of people losing their lives simply because of their financial status motivated me to choose the medical profession. I made the decision to go into medicine and help people.

I'm keenly interested in learning about subjects relating to the human body. I've always been fascinated by how doctors comprehend the illness and successfully treat patients. Biology is my all-time favourite subject. Even though pursuing a profession in medicine is not simple, I'll work tirelessly to finish my studies and acquire my dream position one day.

I intend to help the underprivileged residents of my community once I have earned my medical degree. Numerous fatal diseases affect the poor, and they are unable to pay for better care. I would schedule a few days every month to provide treatment for all the needy people for free or at a minimal fee in an effort to help them receive medical attention that they need and deserve.

The profession of a doctor has the greatest respect. My goal in life is to become a doctor so that I can help others who cannot afford expensive medical care. I would help many people and their families by becoming a doctor. The joy and inner calm that come from rescuing lives transcends all other emotions.

People claim that the only other being capable of miracles after God is a doctor. Being a doctor is a lifetime achievement. By providing patients with medical care and treatment, a doctor relieves other people's pain and suffering. People who practise medicine bring joy to a lot of patients and their families. Not only is becoming a doctor a fantastic job choice, but it also brings inner satisfaction and fulfilment.
