job satisfaction vs job security ielts essay

There is no doubt that most adults spend the majority of their day at work. Thus, it is extremely important that their job is both rewarding and fulfilling. In this essay, I will examine factors related to job satisfaction and how realistic these factors are.

First of all, the most important reason that people work is for the money . A recent survey by a leading HR firm revealed that people working in a high paying job are 80%  happier than those who are not. However, job satisfaction is not only limited to financial reward. The office environment and the long term prospect of the career path are equally important. For example, people whose efforts  are not being appreciated by their company will not be enjoying what they are doing.  On the other hand, many people may be enjoying their job but the limited money that they earn might make  them unhappy with their profession. For example, many artists find it difficult to make a living even though they may feel lucky to be doing what they love.

So, in order to have a highly satisfied career, a person needs to be doing a job that they enjoy, working for a company with great environment , and getting paid for what they deserve. All these components are essential to achieving job satisfaction. Realistically, it is not easy for someone to have all that under the  same roof.

In conclusion, it is very difficult to get an ideal job that satisfies all the requirements of job satisfaction. However, everyone can still be happy with reporting to work everyday if  they are willing to make some sacrifices.

IELTS Writing: Job satisfaction and security

' data-src=

Some people argue job satisfaction is more important than job security. Others believe a permanent job is more important. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are concerned about how to stabilise the job position. However, whether we should put the job security in the first place has become a controversial issue. I agree with the view that job satisfaction is far more important for employees.

Firstly, it is obvious that people who are doing improper job will not be satisfied with it. The staff in the company will find that he can not maximise his talent, which will bring negative effect on his working ability. Therefore, the intrinsic job dissatisfaction will do harm both to individual and organisation, even though the job is permanent.

Moreover, sometimes the job dissatisfaction comes from outside factors such as the stressful relationship with superiors and colleagues, low salary and uncomfortable working environment, which will also dismantle the enthusiasm and vitality in the workplace. As a result, the working efficiency and productivity will also be decreased. So this kind of extrinsic job dissatisfaction should be avoided too.

That is not to say that the job security is not desirable at all. Some people prefer to have a permanent job without worrying about getting fired so that they could spare no efforts to work. But to be honest, this situation is to some extent kind of idealism.

In sum, job satisfaction is far more important than job security as long as we want to boost the economy; meanwhile, we should not forget to provide the guaranteed position for the benefit of workers. Only by doing so can we ensure that every employee in the workplace can make the most contribution.

Some People Argue Job Satisfaction Is More Important Than Job Security

by Manjusha Nambiar · Published October 17, 2023 · Updated April 21, 2024

job satisfaction vs job security ielts essay

Sample essay

There is some debate over whether people should opt for a job that gives them fulfillment or a secure source of income. While some people insist that employment security is more vital than job satisfaction, I am personally in favor of the opposite.

There are good reasons to say that job security is more desirable because of the potential advantages that come along with it. To begin with, employees can worry less about finance because secure jobs offer stable monthly paychecks. This is an enormous aspect to consider since the main purpose of getting a job for most people is to receive a consistent source of income. Especially for those who are not well-off, a job that can ensure them a steady income is a no-brainer because they may have a family to feed. If they prefer job satisfaction to job security, they may be considered selfish or irresponsible by their own family members. Not to mention, virtually every permanent job offers welfare benefits, which means if they undergo hardships or pregnancy, they are given extra days off with salary.

Nonetheless, there are stronger reasons to state that pursuing a labor of love is a better choice. Firstly, it is scientifically proven that enthusiasm is directly linked to productivity and efficiency. For this reason, we are inclined to feel more motivated and less stagnant when we do work or chores we enjoy. That is just how our brains work and it is wiser to not go against it. Moreover, workers are more eager to learn and better themselves when they enjoy what they are doing. They view their jobs as something that adds value to their life, rather than as tiresome assignments that need to be done.

In conclusion, although job stability can solve a bundle of problems for workers and therefore, seem attractive, I hold the firm belief that job gratification is more crucial because it improves the overall quality of life, as well as one’s expertise. Of course, pursuing job satisfaction may not be possible for those who are dependent on their paycheck.

Band 4+: Job satisfaction vs security job.discuss both views and give your opinion.

In this concurrent world, it is undoubtedly true that a job is most important for achieving a future goal.some people concur that job satisfaction is more important. However,I differ from them and propound that a secure job must be needed than work satisfaction. This Essay will further elaborate my reasons for the same upcoming paragraphs which will lead to a logical conclusion.

There are adequate pieces of evidence of this view which are substantial. The top-notch concrete reason is the permanent jobs are life time grantee income without any stress.Another pivotal aspect is no risk for losing the job also any people can be set up goal and achievement their aim which will be help live healthy and Wealthy life with family. The final point worth considering which cannot be neglected is the world population is day by day increasing that’s why everywhere have job crisis. However, the fixed job can be secured the life. Thus it is clear that this viewpoint has certainly undeniable merits.

What is half for some, may appear half empty to others. So people tend to distinguish the job satisfaction which has multifarious reason. To commence with, some people deem that people can do the work easily and like the environment of workplace because they satisfied their job. Also be developing a strong work ethic will improving who satisfied their jobs. For example, Who were satisfied with their jobs they cannot lead boring life.

In conclusion,it must be said that which job selected has become complex issue with no easy solution. Having considered both side issues,I would argue that fixed job Better than job satisfaction because the permanent job give us secure income and do risk loss the job.

IELTS Essay on Employment

Posted by David S. Wills | Aug 6, 2020 | Model Essays | 0

IELTS Essay on Employment

There are many IELTS writing topics but one of the common ones is employment . This means anything relating to the idea of working. (Of course, it could also be the opposite: unemployment .) In any case, today I will explain how to write an IELTS essay on employment.

We are going to look at two examples of IELTS writing task 2 questions about employment and then I will show you my two sample answers.

IELTS Writing Questions about Employment

The topic of employment could arise almost anywhere in the IELTS exam but it is quite common in task 2 of the writing test. In fact, the scope for what sort of question you could be asked is immense! You could be asked about employment and:

  • Environment
  • and much more

In short, you cannot really prepare for this by guessing the questions or having any expectation of a particular topic. Just know that you might have to write an essay about employment and that you will need to read it carefully.

IELTS Essay #1: Self-Employment vs Traditional Employment

First of all, let’s look at an IELTS writing question about self-employment.

Nowadays many people choose to be self-employed, rather than to work for a company or organization. Why might this be the case? What could be the disadvantages of being self-employed?

ielts essay on employment

This is a two-part question , which means you should aim to answer both questions in the body of your essay. In a sense, this makes it much easier to understand the question and structure your answer.

However, let’s make sure that we understand it perfectly.

Question analysis

Premise: In the modern era, many people work for themselves. This is different from the past, when they worked for companies.

We have to write about two things:

  • Why this has happened.
  • What are the disadvantages.

In a sense, this is a rare instance where the two-part question and the advantages-and-disadvantages question come together! You can see how #1 is sort of asking for the advantages, and #2 specifically asks for disadvantages.

How interesting!

Common Problems

I have often seen my writing correction students make the mistake of confusing freelancing, self-employment, and working from home. There can obviously be some overlap between these but there are also important distinctions:

To answer this question, I would take a pretty simple, four-paragraph structure for my approach. It would look like this:

Sample Band 9 Answer

It is quite common nowadays for people to be self-employed, rather than working for a company or organization. This essay will look into the reasons for that change, and then discuss some of the disadvantages of being self-employed.

In the information era, it is quite possible for people to work at home on their computer. The internet has opened up all sorts of possibilities in terms of making money, and so people may work as freelancers or start their own company. It has never been easier to do this because in the past working for yourself required renting an office or shop, whereas now you can simply set up a website or social media profile. People typically prefer this because it allows them a great deal of freedom. A person who prefers nights and loathes waking up early might choose to conduct their business at night, whereas someone who likes to travel might work from a laptop while visiting different places.

Of course, there are some disadvantages to being unemployed. This sort of employment lacks the security of a traditional job. In most countries, workers are protected by laws that guarantee them certain rights. However, with no employer and no workplace, these laws do not apply. Similarly, traditional jobs provide pension plans and health insurance, but when you work for yourself you have to provide these yourself, and they are not cheap. In fact, most self-employed people simply forego these things and take the risk as a part of their comparatively free life.

In conclusion, being self-employed allows people a far greater degree of freedom in their life, but there are several significant drawbacks that mean this sort of work is not suitable for everyone.

IELTS Essay #2: Job Satisfaction

Next, we will look at an IELTS essay on employment that deals specifically with the interesting issue of job satisfaction:

As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing. What factors contribute to job satisfaction? How realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction for all workers?

This is another two-part question. What a coincidence!

Question Analysis

In order to understand this question, we can again look closely at its premise:

Premise: Job satisfaction is important for a person’s wellbeing.

You have to write about:

  • The factors that make people satisfied with their work
  • Whether or not it is realistic for everyone to achieve job satisfaction

You should aim to write about all of this without straying off topic.

A lot of people seem to misunderstand or overlook the second question, which asks whether it is realistic for everyone to have job satisfaction . This can be a difficult thing to discuss with any depth, but you need to address it as best you can.

Here is how I will plan my IELTS essay about job satisfaction:

Although some people think that a high salary is the most important part of a job, the truth is that job satisfaction is probably more important. This essay will look at some of the factors contributing to this, and then argue that it is a reasonable expectation to have some degree of job satisfaction.

Every person is different and so defining job satisfaction is not an easy task. However, it could be stated that in order to provide this to employees, employers must give them a good justification for doing their job. The reason for this is that having a sense of satisfaction with one’s job largely comes from feeling a sense of purpose. People who feel that their efforts are useless or unappreciated invariably feel no job satisfaction. In addition to this, it is important that a person is given some degree of responsibility and autonomy with their tasks. Having a supervisor monitoring every single action presents a lack of trust and creates an atmosphere of oppression. When these two factors are met, they can result in workers who feel satisfied with their positions.

It may seem unlikely that people can achieve this because ever since the industrial revolution, it has been normal for people to work long hours in order to make money to survive, with little thought given to making workers happy or comfortable. However, in the modern world there is no good reason why this cannot be a new target. Employers should strive to give their employees dignity in the workplace, instead of maximizing productivity. Whether this is likely or not depends on social expectations and workplace laws, but it is certainly possible if the effort were made.

In conclusion, job satisfaction occurs when people are given tasks that matter and then offered some degree of responsibility. This could be given to everyone with the right motivation, although it is also possible that it may not happen.

Ok folks, I hope that was helpful for you. Now you can go and write your own IELTS essay on employment. Remember that there are many possible questions and so you should not assume that these two will appear in your next test. Also note that the topic of employment could appear in task 1 as a line graph of employment rates or any other sort of visual representation of employment and unemployment.

Essay 103 – Job satisfaction is an important element

Gt writing task 2 / essay sample # 103.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing.

What factors contribute to job satisfaction? How realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction for all workers?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer 1:

Since most adults devote a considerable amount of time at their workplace, job satisfaction is crucially important to the well-being of an individual. I believe that wages, working environment and career enhancement opportunities are the key determinants of job satisfaction. However, with different occupations, expectations may still vary, and I think that satisfaction with jobs remains a distant dream for the majority of employers.

To begin with, job satisfaction depends on several cogent reasons, like wages and salaries, working environment and promotion chances for example. Firstly, salaries play a paramount role in affecting job satisfaction. In simple words, money helps employees attain their basic needs. Besides, it is deemed a symbol of accomplishment as higher salaries reflect a higher degree of contribution to the organization. Secondly, the working environment also plays a pivotal role in influencing job contentment. That is to say that employees need an atmosphere which is safe and healthy, and which caters to both personal comforts and is conducive to doing a good job. Last but not least, the potential for career advancement is another factor in a delightful career. This is because employees regard promotion as the ultimate achievement and when they get a promotion, they feel absolutely satisfied.

However, it is well-nigh impossible for all employees to be completely satisfied with their job and workplace. In fact, a high-paid job exerts an enormous amount of stress. An employee who comes under pressure to work longer hours will not be satisfied with the profession, whereas a flexible job that entertains executives’ passion likely has low salaries. It appears that human nature is a formidable challenge for employees to find satisfaction in their occupations.

In conclusion, salaries, a stimulating working environment and promotional chance are the major sources of job satisfaction but human traits are actually a great hindrance to working delight and job satisfaction for all is not possible.

Model Answer 2:

Job satisfaction plays a crucial role in an individual’s overall wellbeing, considering the significant amount of time spent at work. While there are several factors that contribute to job satisfaction, it is important to recognize that the expectation of universal job satisfaction may not be entirely realistic due to various circumstances and individual differences.

Several factors contribute to job satisfaction. Firstly, a key determinant is the nature of the work itself. Jobs that provide a sense of purpose, challenge, and autonomy often lead to higher levels of satisfaction. When individuals feel that their work is meaningful and aligned with their values and interests, they are more likely to experience satisfaction and fulfilment. Additionally, supportive working environments that foster positive relationships, teamwork, and effective communication contribute to job satisfaction. For example, research shows that when employees feel valued, respected, and supported by their colleagues and supervisors, their overall satisfaction increases.

Furthermore, opportunities for growth and development are vital for job satisfaction. Employees who have access to continuous learning, skill enhancement, and career advancement are more likely to feel engaged and satisfied in their roles. This includes training programmes, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.

However, it is important to acknowledge that the expectation of universal job satisfaction for all workers may be unrealistic. Factors such as economic conditions, job market competitiveness, and individual circumstances can significantly impact job satisfaction. For example, individuals in low-paying or precarious jobs may have limited options for advancement or may face job insecurity, leading to lower satisfaction levels. Additionally, personal factors, such as individual values, personality traits, and personal goals, can influence job satisfaction. What may be satisfying for one person may not be the same for another.

In conclusion, job satisfaction is a crucial element of individual wellbeing, but achieving universal job satisfaction for all workers may be challenging. Individual differences can impact overall satisfaction levels. Therefore, organizations and policymakers should strive to create conducive work environments that promote job satisfaction while recognizing the diverse needs and circumstances of individuals in the workforce.
