This is book number 1 in the True Education Reader series.
In a time where Christ is banished from the classroom, there exists a need for a return to the traditional values and beliefs. The True Education Reader series is a set of textbooks designed in the early 1900's for the elementary level. These readers were published in part as a response to the need for school readers free from myth and fairy tales, and whose core values upheld an early development of faith in the sacred Word. Such textbooks are in need again as modern science and lax morals undermine a simple belief in the word of God. Author Katherine B. Hale was one of the early professors of Pacific Union College, formerly known as Healdsburg College. Her interest in labor in the educational department led to the publishing of the first two True Education Readers for the first and second grade. She also helped write the True Education Primer, a denominational replacement for the mainstream primers of that period. She worked closely with Marion Ernest Cady, whose leadership at Healdsburg College led to the modern success of Pacific Union College, and who helped complete the True Education Reader series.

Casey McQuiston’s debut proved that queer romance can be a hit. In their latest novel, “The Pairing,” sex doesn’t only sell; it’s also “beautiful and really soul affirming.”
Casey McQuiston was nervous about having a main character who was nonbinary but decided to go for it: “If I can’t summon up the courage to do this from the position of privilege that I’m in, then what are we doing here?” Credit... OK McCausland for The New York Times

Until a few years ago, mainstream publishers considered queer romance novels a niche business, a little slice of the market that served a particular population and was never going to deliver a blockbuster.
Enter Casey McQuiston, who has published three queer romance novels, each of them a blockbuster.
There are more than 3 million copies of McQuiston’s books in print across formats, and they are best sellers not only in the United States but in other countries too, like Brazil and Poland. The first novel, “Red, White and Royal Blue,” which was about the son of the American president falling in love with the Prince of England, was made into a movie by Amazon MGM Studios, and McQuiston is working on a script for the sequel.
“The Pairing,” McQuiston’s fourth book, will publish this month.
“I feel a lot of gratitude for what I’ve been given,” said McQuiston, who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, while sitting on their balcony in Queens, a view of Manhattan skyscrapers stretching out in the distance. “And the way that I honor that is to not punk out.”
“The Pairing” follows two exes, Theo and Kit, who wind up on the same food and drink tour of Europe, with stops in France, Italy and Spain. To display just how much they’ve moved on, the two exes, both of whom are bisexual, start a hookup competition, and have lots of sex with lots of different kinds of people while they work out their feelings for one another.
One of the main characters is nonbinary, and McQuiston said they were very nervous about creating a they/them love interest.
