History Behind Christmas

Christmas is celebrated every year on 25th December. However, the precise date of the birth of Jesus is unclear. December 25th was  1st celebrated as the date of birth of Jesus by Sextus Julius Africanus in 221. Later on, it became a universally accepted date. One explanation is that 25th December is the Christianizing of the dies solis invicti nati or day of the birth of the unconquered sun”. It is also a popular Roman holiday. Thus, the 25th of December became a widely accepted day as the birth of Jesus. The festival was widely celebrated starting from the 9th Century. But, Christmas has its roots in the old Roman Empire, where it was first celebrated a few decades after Jesus' birth. Saturnalia, a Pagan festival, served as the inspiration for Christmas. The goal of this celebration was to mark the end of winter and the return of the sun. Christians began celebrating Christmas on the final day of Saturnalia in the fourth century. The goal was to encourage the pagans to view this time as positive. As a result, many pagans turned to Christianity on the promise that they may continue to celebrate their traditions.

My Christmas Holiday

Christmas is a time for gifting and sharing, but for me, the main focus is on having fun. I really enjoy myself at this time of year. Family is important to me, therefore I try to spend as much time with them as I can. The highlight of the holiday season is food, including candies, tamales, doughnuts, pastries, cake, rice, beans, and the gifts that we all get. Family, close friends, and holiday gatherings are some of the things that I enjoy the most.

On Christmas Eve, I get up early and get ready to clean the house. My relatives then begin to visit once the house is clean. We discuss old stories that have occurred in our lives over the course of the year during the time I spend with my family. Tamales are a significant Christmas tradition; it's a long process to make tamales, so it's the greatest time for my mother and aunts to catch up.

We assemble in the living room to open our presents at midnight. Afterwards, I tidy up the mess left by all the gifts. My friends visit the next day to wish Merry Christmas. We usually do secret Santa so no one has to buy presents for everyone, instead everyone gets one friend for whom they have to buy a gift. This year, I got a heart shaped pendant from my friend along with socks that had Santa and his reindeer printed on it. We all clicked many pictures wearing red and white Christmas sweaters and scarves. We usually end our day watching Christmas movies till late at night and eating the leftovers from dinner.

For whichever topic we offer information on, we aim to turn it hassle-free for the students to get a complete list. Let’s get ready to read a detailed essay on the Christmas festival that is celebrated all over the world by people of varied beliefs and religions. Here you go:

Christmas is celebrated every year on December 25 . The festival marks the celebration of the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ . Jesus Christ is worshipped as the Messiah of God in Christian Mythology. Hence, his birthday is one of the most joyous ceremonies amongst Christians. Although the festival is mainly celebrated by the followers of Christianity, it is one of the most enjoyed festivals all over the globe. Christmas symbolizes merriment and love. It is celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm by everyone, no matter what religion they follow.

The season of Christmas that begins from Thanksgiving brings festivity and joy to everyone’s lives. Thanksgiving is the day when people thank the almighty for blessing them with harvest and also show gratitude towards all the good things and people around. On Christmas, people wish each other Merry Christmas and pray that the day takes away all the negativity and darkness from people’s life.

Christmas is a festival full of culture and tradition. The festival entails a lot of preparations. Preparations for Christmas start early for most people. Preparations for Christmas involve a lot of things including buying decorations, food items, and gifts for family members and friends. People usually wear white or red coloured outfits on the day of Christmas.

The celebration begins with decorating a Christmas tree . Christmas tree decoration and lighting are the most important part of Christmas. The Christmas tree is an artificial or real pine tree that people adorn with lights, artificial stars, toys, bells, flowers, gifts, etc. People also hide gifts for their loved ones. Traditionally, gifts are hidden in socks under the tree. It is an old belief that a saint named Santa Claus comes on the night of Christmas eve and hides presents for well-behaved kids. This imaginary figure brings a smile to everyone’s face.

Young children are especially excited about Christmas as they receive gifts and great Christmas treats. The treats include chocolates, cakes, cookies, etc. People on this day visit churches with their families and friends and light candles in front of the idol of Jesus Christ. Churches are decorated with fairy lights and candles. People also create fancy Christmas cribs and adorn them with gifts, lights, etc. Children sing Christmas carols and also perform various skits marking the celebration of the auspicious day. One of the famous Christmas carols sung by all is “Jingle Bell, Jingle Bell, Jingle all the way”.

On this day, people tell each other stories and anecdotes related to Christmas. It is believed that Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to the Earth on this day to end people’s sufferings and miseries. His visit is symbolic of goodwill and happiness and it is depicted through the visit of the wise men and the shepherds. Christmas is, indeed, a magical festival that is all about sharing joy and happiness. For this reason, it is also my most favorite festival.

Apart from the religious beliefs, the festival is known as sharing gifts with family as well as friends. The cute kids wait for the whole year to receive gifts from Santa. The craze of receiving gifts increases so much that they get up at midnight and start asking what they are going to get from Santa. They share their wishes with their parents and their parents try to accomplish them on the behalf of Santa.

The wheel of imparting knowledge to the students at Vedantu is designed in a manner that the students can grab it without facing any sort of challenge. Christians believe Jesus to be the son of God and the saviour of humanity. Christmas is the time for reflection on the Nativity story, spreading love, strengthening bonds, and spreading goodwill.

Beyond its religious roots, Christmas has evolved into a global cultural festival. Christmas Essay in 300 Words

Christmas is a globally celebrated festival. It is a blend of religious reverence and cultural festivities. If we go with the reason to celebrate Christmas, then, as per the Christians’ beliefs, it is the birthday of Jesus Christ, the God of Christians. Thus, this day has profound religious significance as well. The nativity story, recounted in the Bible, tells of the humble birth in Bethlehem, emphasising themes of hope, love, and salvation.

Beside its religious roots, this festival also has importance in building social faith and love. The iconic Christmas tree, often an evergreen conifer, is the primary tree decorated during the holiday season. This tree is a symbol of life and hope during the winter months. Families bring their own Christmas tree and decorate it with lights, ornaments, and tinsel with their kids. The drizzling lights illuminate the tree, and colourful ornaments add festive vibes.

Christmas serves as an occasion for reflection and gratitude. It prompts individuals to appreciate the blessings in their lives and to extend compassion to those less fortunate. The tradition of spreading cheer through carols, festive gatherings, and expressions of love reinforces the idea that Christmas is a season of warmth and togetherness.

Meaning of Christmas

Traditionally “Masses” include reading sermons and offering bread and wine to the poor and other members of the community. Therefore, the true meaning of Christmas is to give and take care of the needs of those who can’t look for themselves.

Even before the birth of Jesus Christ, the middle of the winter season had long been a time of celebration throughout the world. Civilizations had been celebrating the winter solstice for long as the arrival of sunny days and the exit of long harsh winter.

However, in Rome, where the winter was not so cold after all, a festival named Saturnalia, to honor Saturn, the God of Agriculture was observed. 250 Words Essay on My Christmas Celebration

The joy of christmas morning.

My Christmas celebration begins early on the 25th of December. I wake up to the sweet smell of cinnamon and apple pie, which my mom bakes for Christmas every year. Excitement fills the air as my family and I rush downstairs to see the brightly decorated tree with lots of gifts underneath. The colorful lights and the shiny ornaments make my heart feel warm and happy.

The most thrilling part is opening presents. We take turns, and everyone watches as each gift is unwrapped. The room is filled with sounds of surprise and laughter. But Christmas is not just about receiving; it’s also about giving. I love seeing my family’s faces light up when they open the gifts I picked out for them. It’s a reminder that sharing joy with others is what makes Christmas special.

A Festive Feast

In the afternoon, we gather around the dining table for a big meal. The table is covered with delicious foods: roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans. We all help out to prepare the meal, and it tastes better because we made it together. During the meal, we tell stories and jokes, feeling grateful to be together.

Spreading the Spirit

After our feast, we sometimes visit our neighbors to wish them a Merry Christmas. Sharing this holiday spirit with others is important to us. It’s a time to be kind and to think of people who might be alone during the holidays.

Christmas for me is about family, joy, and kindness. It’s a day that reminds us to appreciate what we have and to spread happiness wherever we go.

500 Words Essay on My Christmas Celebration

My Christmas celebration begins early in the morning when the sun peeks through my window. I wake up to the sweet smell of baked goods and the sound of holiday songs playing softly in the background. The house is warm and cozy, filled with the laughter of my family. We all wear bright, cheerful pajamas, and our excitement is as clear as the twinkling lights on the Christmas tree.

Decorating the Christmas Tree

A few days before Christmas, we decorate our tree together. It’s a family tradition. We choose a tall, green tree and spend the evening hanging ornaments. Each decoration has its own story, and as we hang them, we share memories of past Christmases. The tree is topped with a shining star, and once it’s all done, we stand back and admire our work. The tree, with its colorful lights and shiny tinsel, looks like it’s out of a storybook.

Gift-Giving and Sharing

One of the best parts of Christmas is giving and getting presents. We place our gifts under the tree and try to guess what’s inside them. On Christmas morning, we take turns opening our presents. The room is filled with oohs and aahs as each gift is revealed. But it’s not just about the presents; it’s about showing love and thinking of others. We also make sure to donate toys and clothes to those in need, spreading the joy of the season.

A Feast of Flavors

Christmas is a time for feasting, and our table is always full of delicious food. We have a big meal that includes turkey, stuffing, and lots of vegetables. There’s also fruitcake, cookies, and pies for dessert. We all help with the cooking, and the kitchen is a busy place with everyone chatting and tasting. When the meal is ready, we gather around the table, hold hands, and say a prayer of thanks. Then, we eat, talk, and laugh together.

Playing in the Snow

If we’re lucky and there’s snow outside, we put on our coats, hats, and gloves and go out to play. We build snowmen, have snowball fights, and make snow angels. The cold air makes our cheeks red, and the snow crunches under our boots. It’s fun to play in the winter wonderland that our yard becomes at Christmas time.

Christmas Movies and Stories

After playing outside, we come in to warm up and watch Christmas movies. We pick out our favorites and watch them while sipping hot cocoa with marshmallows. Sometimes, we read Christmas stories instead. We sit close together under a blanket, listening to tales of Santa Claus and his reindeer.

The Magic of Christmas Night

As night falls, we turn on the Christmas lights and watch as they brighten the dark sky. The magic of Christmas is all around us. We feel happy and grateful for the love we share. Before going to bed, we leave out cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for his reindeer. We go to sleep with hearts full of joy, knowing that Christmas is a time of giving, family, and happiness.

Celebrating Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s a day filled with joy, love, and the warmth of family. The memories we make each year are gifts that last a lifetime.

Introduction:

Christmas is the season of joy, peace, and happiness. It is the special season set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Though this was its original purpose, the celebration of Christmas has grown to become a symbolic time for living in peace and love.

Christmas is essentially a reminder of why we should stick to the deepest parts of our humanity. That is, through celebration, we are reminded that we should share, give to the less privileged, spend time with loved ones and have a positive outlook about life in general.

Origin of Christmas:

Many people assume Christmas is strictly a Christian celebration and they would be right if modern evidence is to be considered. However, with regards to its origin, this notion cannot be farther from the truth. In actual sense, Christmas originated a few decades after the birth of Jesus in the old Roman Empire.

Christmas emanated as the Pagan celebration of the concept known as Saturnalia. This celebration was aimed at celebrating the return of the sun and the end of winter. The celebration is usually a weeklong affair and is marked by lawless activity and a system of penal exemption from lawless acts such as housing breaking.

In the 4 th century, Christians adapted the last day of Saturnalia to be the celebration of Christmas. The aim was to get the pagans to associate this period with positive things. Consequently, lots of pagans converted to Christianity on the promise that they could still celebrate their tradition in this day. Whether Jesus was actually born on the 25 of December is not substantiated by historical evidence.

Importance of Christmas:

Why do we celebrate Christmas? Why do we go the extra mile to celebrate, give and create an atmosphere of merriment? The answers to these questions are numerous but we would mention a few.

1. Christmas reminds us of the importance of giving and sharing with friends and family.

2. Christmas shows the importance of joy and happiness.

3. Through Christmas, we know that Jesus birth is the beginning of great things in the world.

4. It is also an opportunity to correct actions we aren’t proud of in our lives.

5. It is generally an opportunity to think about nature and the reason for our existence.

Conclusion:

Whether you’re Christian or not, Christmas is an opportunity for you to put your biases and ill thought behind in the celebration of a great cause.

This holiday is also famous for the different customs that are associated with it and even though Christmas is celebrated in all Christian countries there are differences in the way each nation commemorates this date.

Christmas Traditions:

One of the more famous symbols of this holiday is the Christmas tree. Most people do not think about it and just maintain that this custom has been around for ages, while in fact, it is in use for the past 150 years. This myth was taken on by the movie industry and transformed into the white beard and red-coated child hero of today.

Traditionally Christmas is celebrated by a Church mass in the morning and then by a family meal later on in the day. That is if you are a religious person, otherwise, most people have some sort of Christmas dinner where they sing the appropriate songs and drink special drinks, somewhere its egg- nock and in other places its sweetened cooked red wine. Whatever the tradition the point of the holiday is to spend some quality time with your loved ones eating and resting.

Modern Christmas:

Christmas is also famous as the time of the year when we give gifts to each other and appropriately this is also the time when companies try to sell everything they can. Marketing experts know how to use the traditional symbols of Christmas to make you want to buy something that you do not actually need. Not to mention that every gift that Santa brings has to be bought somewhere and every child wants a visit from their favorite imagined gift giver. The consumer society has transformed this holiday and made it part of its cosmology, the basic elements are still here but everything is set around decoration, gifts, and movies.

Whatever the backdrop of the holiday it still remains one of the coziest times of the year, at least form me. Spending time at home with the people we love, embraced, watching movies and surrounded by flickering lights is the image I have in my head when I think about Christmas. This is also an image that brings warmth to my heart.

Christmas is a festival celebrated across the globe. It is celebrated on December 25. It is believed that Jesus Christ was born on this day in Bethlehem. Christmas is a popular festival and a short holiday season in most parts of the world. We gather with families during the festival and celebrate it with joy. We celebrate Christmas by exchanging presents with neighbours and friends. We get a beautiful Christmas tree at home and decorate it with lights and ornaments. Christmas is about a month after Thanksgiving, and the weeks in between are filled with Christmas spirit with everyone preparing for the big day.

Every year I am most excited about the presents I get on Christmas day. Santa Claus is said to go around the world on his flying sledge pulled by reindeer on Christmas Eve. He goes to every child’s house and delivers the present they wished for in the weeks before Christmas.

On Christmas morning, I run to the Christmas tree to find my presents and have an amazing time unwrapping them. The fun continues throughout the day as I call up my friends and relatives to wish them a Merry Christmas! Then I prepare for the evening party by baking delicious cookies and cakes with my family. We invite our friends and neighbours to the party and have a great time throughout the evening.

Over time Christmas has become infused with popular culture as many people around the world participate in the celebration. Most people decorate Christmas trees and offer presents to family and friends. The celebratory part of the festival symbolises unity among people. To conclude, Christmas is a fantastic time of the year for everyone, with the new year just around the corner.

CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION AT OUR SCHOOL

By Natasha Luke

Christmas Celebration at our school was organized on 22nd December this year. Students came to school wearing beautiful dresses. The school was decorated beautifully with glitters and lights. A crib was made by the students of class 12. The crib was really very beautiful.

One could easily notice the excitement of Christmas in the students’ eyes. They were eagerly waiting for the  Christmas gift exchange. All the students had brought Christmas gifts for their friends. This ceremony of choosing a Christmas friend and exchanging gifts is promoted in order to inculcate the mentality of sharing among the students.

This practice would also help them to think about others. After the gift exchange ceremony, all students were assembled in the auditorium for the programs. There were a variety of performances, the best being the Carol songs performed by the senior-most students.

A student dressed as Santa Claus paraded through the auditorium cheering and singing songs of Christmas, handing out small gifts and handshakes. By the end of the program, the principal distributed cakes and cards to all her children. It was a piece of cake with sweets and a Christmas card wishing them “Happy Christmas”.

By Natasha Mark

December 22, 2020; Kerala: The situations were getting worse due to covid-19. People were in great distress since they could not attend the Christmas Mass at churches. Even though the situations were not in our favour we still managed to celebrate Christmas. We helped those who were in need. We and gifts through couriers.

We even gave gifts to children in a nearby orphanage. They were so happy that they returned their gratitude by writing us Christmas cards. We felt good. Relatives could not come over and gatherings were not allowed. So each house celebrated with their neighbours.

They exchanged dishes and sweets. They broke bread together. They sang songs together. We decorated our houses together. This Christmas was different from the other ones but it reminded us that even though the times are difficult. We were dressed in our best dresses. We wished each other Happy Christmas.

A pleasant and happy atmosphere prevailed in the atmosphere. Even though the celebration was not like the one we used to have in a crowded house, this was a good chance of things. We got to spend the rest of the day with our family, telling jokes and enjoying the nights to ourselves.

Christmas is a major festival celebrated by the worldwide Christian community on 25 th December, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It involves weeks-long festive preparations, exchanging gifts, community get together and feasting. It is also a public holiday in many of the world’s countries.

Meaning of Christmas

Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, whom the Christians consider as the son of God. The name Christmas has been derived from Christ’s Mass or the Mass of the Christ. The term Mass is used to indicate an act of worship that culminates in celebration.

Traditionally “Masses” include reading sermons and offering bread and wine to the poor and other members of the community. Therefore, the true meaning of Christmas is to give and take care of the needs of those who can’t look for themselves.

Brief and Real History of Christmas

Even before the birth of Jesus Christ, the middle of the winter season had long been a time of celebration throughout the world. Civilizations had been celebrating the winter solstice for long as the arrival of sunny days and the exit of long harsh winter.

However, in Rome, where the winter was not so cold after all, a festival named Saturnalia, to honor Saturn, the God of Agriculture was observed. Beginning on the winter solstice, the festival continued for a complete month. The festival was celebrated grandly and schools and colleges were closed for a complete month for everyone to thoroughly enjoy the festival.

Christmas Eve

The term Christmas Eve is used for the evening or the day before Christmas Day. Christmas Eve is also observed as a holiday in many parts of the world. Both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day together constitute a significant part of the Christmas holidays.

The celebration of Christmas in western Christianity begins the day before Christmas that is on 24 th December. This has possibly its roots in the ancient Jewish celebrations and also in the story of creation in the Book of Genesis which states that “And there was evening and there was morning- the first day”.

Christmas Celebration

Christmas Day is celebrated as a public holiday in many countries around the world, even in the countries where the Christian community is in minority. Many countries with a low population of Christians also celebrate the day as a secular event. Gift and other articles are distributed among the poor and also a feast is organized. Christmas tree is another most significant part of the celebrations. In western countries, there couldn’t be a Christmas celebration without the Christmas tree. People spend hours choosing the best Christmas tree for their house and requirements. The tree is brought home and decorated with lights, gifts, and other articles.

Though Christmas celebrates the birth of the son of God Jesus Christ, the main spirit of the festival lies in giving and sharing. It is a festival when the poor are fed, gifts are exchanged and no one is left hungry without a smile on his/her face.
