Calcutta University RET 2023 for PhD programme registration starts; eligibility criteria

Candidates eligible for admission to PhD programme in the department of electronic science, CU, will have to deposit the application at HoD’s office.

NEW DELHI: The Calcutta University has started the registration process for the Research Eligibility Test (CU RET 2023) for admission to the PhD programme in the department of electronic science through offline application.

Eligible candidates can apply for the Calcutta University RET 2023 through a duly filled online form, along with the receipt of deposition of application fee of Rs 100, at the office of head of department of electronic science. The fee can be deposited in any cash counter of the University of Calcutta by challan or through onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm. They will also have to deposit self-certified copies of relevant mark sheets and certificates at the HoD’s office.

Important dates

The university will accept the application till December 12. The Calcutta University RET written exam will be held on December 22. Candidates shortlisted for the interview will be announced on December 29. The interview will be conducted on January 4, 2024.

The written test will have a maximum of 150 marks. Candidates will have to attempt multiple choice questions in one hour. Candidates of unreserved category will have to get 50% marks while those from OBC category and SC, ST categories will have to get 45% and 35% marks, respectively, to qualify the exam.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates applying for the CU RET 2023 should have MSc degree in electronic science or physics with at least 55% marks in aggregate. Students with Masters in Engineering or Technology (electronics and communication engineering) or equivalent degree should have 60% marks in aggregate for applying for the RET 2023. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be given a relaxation of 5% marks.

The eligible candidates will have to appear at a written examination to be held in the Department of Electronic Science, the details of which are appended below, following which the selected students have to appear for an interview. The final selection for enrolling in the PhD (Science) programme of the department of electronic science, along with the allocation of supervisor, will be made on the basis of the interview.

Candidates who have already qualified UGC-CSIR (JRF) or NET or GATE or SLET or SET or MPhil-MTech/ME or equivalent examinations or have INSPIRE/Teacher Fellowship, are exempted from appearing for the written test and may directly appear at the interview. At the time of interview, the candidates will have to submit a one-page research proposal.

Calcutta University admission 2024 is ongoing for various courses through Centralized Admission Process. Given below are the latest admission updates of the university:

• Admission for waiting list candidates for MBA HRD will begin from Sept 2, 2024.
• MCom (Day), MCom (Evening), MA, MA/MSc (Archeology, Economics, Musology), MSc (Agri), BTech, and Integrated B.Lib.I.Sc-M.Lib.I.Sc Application Window is open. The last date to submit the application forms is Sept 10, 2024
• Last date to apply for PhD in Applied Chemistry and Pharmaeutical & Fine Chemical Tech is Sept 12, 2024. Entrance Exam for the course i.e. (RET) will be conducted on Sept 18, 2024 at 12 noon and the interview for admission is scheduled on Sept 20, 2024 from 2 p.m. onwards.

Calcutta University (CU) offers UG, PG, Doctoral, Diploma, and Certificate courses in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Management, Law, etc. Admissions at Calcutta University are done in two categories, i.e., Part ‘A’ for CU Candidates and Part ‘B’ for Non-CU candidates. The university offers admission to 80% of seats for CU candidates (Part ‘A’) and 20% for non-CU candidates. Calcutta University conducts an entrance test for admission to 20% of seats in PG courses for non-CU candidates (Part ‘B’). 

Admissions to UG courses such as BA, B.Sc, and B.Com are based on marks secured in the qualifying examination. Calcutta University PG admissions including MA, M.Sc, M.Com, B.Ed, LLM are based on entrance examination (for Part ‘B’ candidates) or marks secured in the qualifying examination (for Part ‘A’ candidates) followed by a personal interview. Admission to BTech, MBA, MCA, and MTech programs are based on national-level test scores such as WBJEE/JEE Main, CAT/MAT/XMAT/JEMAT, WB-JECA, and GATE respectively.

The final selection of all Part ‘A’ and Part ‘B’ candidates is done through a counselling process conducted by the university. Seats are allotted based on scores obtained in the entrance examination or marks secured in the qualifying examination and interview (for respective programs). For the selection, 70% weightage will be given to entrance or qualifying exam scores and 30% to the interview conducted by the respective departments.

Calcutta University offers admission to MA, M.Com, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, MTech, B.Ed, B.Lib.Sc, M.Li.Sc, M.Ed, and LL.M in multiple disciplines in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law & Education at postgraduate level. The basic eligibility for PG courses is a pass in a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant disciplines. 

Admissions to PG courses are offered in two categories, i.e., Part ‘A’ for CU Candidates and Part ‘B’ for Non-CU candidates. 80% of total seats are earmarked for CU students (Honours Graduates of CU including Autonomous Colleges affiliated to CU will be considered in Part – “A” ) and admission to 20% of seats will be offered in Part “B” (Honours Graduates of other Universities (Non-C.U.). 

Selection for Part “A” candidates will be based on marks secured in the qualifying examination, while Part “B” candidates are required to appear for an entrance test conducted by the university.

Overall Life at Asutosh College

• I liked the faculty for the English Department.
• The seniors in this college are very helpful.
• The college is too politically driven at times.
• The college washrooms are not very clean.

Admission :

I got good marks in ISC and i wanted to pursue English in a good government college. I got selected in other colleges but i preferred this one because of their NAAC grading which is A. They selected students according to marks and the lists are out in that order.

Overall faculty is very good

• I liked the big ac classrooms and methods of teaching
• I disliked the small campus area. It should have been more free and spacious

I applied in many colleges in Kolkata like Jadavpur , Presidency,etc but I got admission in Bhawanipur education society college, University of Calcutta. And I'm glad that I studied here. It has really built my confidence and knowledge

Calcutta University Electrical BTech Review

• Curriculum of B Tech is better than Makaut here
• Our class teachers make questions and check answers
• Poor campus life due to low no of students
• Most Professors are busy researching thier own

I got scope to get admitted in IEM, Heritage, Techno etc but this college is govt so fees are nominal and reputation of this university is more than a centennial long I got rejected from Jadavpur University as my rank in Wbjee was not that good Admissions are made through Wbjee for 4yr BTech and jelet for lateral 3yr BTech

The overall review of our college

• i like how the trachers are friendly and teachers us very properly
• the behaviour of the teachers and stuffs of the office and also the watchmans
• i don't like the politics that are going inside
• there's no ac in the class rooms of the students

I've admitted to this college because this college is quite famous in our area and this college has a very good education opportunities. 1st you have to fill forms and then if you're eligible for the course then u have to pay the fees and then you got admitted

About my collage.

• All teachers are very helpful and well educated.
• Collage laboratories and lybaris are helpful.

This college has many benefits beside study many sports facilities are available, scholarship facilities are available, annual sports are held every yers. Teachers are like friends and they are very helpful in every purpose.

As a neutral student who try to give best opinion for his college

• Social interaction is very good,campus is very good
• Our college faculty is also good,but my course purpose faculty and lab assistant are very nice and helpful.
• Arrangement of direct placement after completing the course in every faculty which is not available nowadays.
• To improve the aspect of sports and make arrangements for the players to reach the district , state level also international level.

I am a student is the time of COVID pandemic. So,this time we all are suffer hardly. In this time I applied many college but I choose this college for my facility. This college is slightly nearby my home with the respect of any other colleges and this college's zoology faculty is also very good , I heard this romour in our locality,xii class, school etc

• The behaviour of teachers is very very good
• The faculty members are so kind to others in explaining
• The behaviour of staff members are vert very bad

This college is good for study compared to other colleges which bring so many irregular activities or problems, this is so good. No, I get a Chance to many colleges but as I prepared for government exams I thought it was better to graduate from this college

My honest review

• Our college is good . All the year the organised a function.
• the teacher is very bad especially the hod .
• And our mathematics department is very bad no one tour in my 3 years college life

When I 1st see the college is naac a grade I applied for it but I think it is my wrong choice . But our college is best for other colleges. No union force for their part and no class bunk so I think it is best .

• The teachers are really good and their teaching methods are nice too. They'll stick to one single topic unless all of the students understand.
• The infrastructure and amenities of the college is nice.

I chose this college because of many reasons. One is, we all go to college at some point of our life to graduate. But besides the studies, the college life should must be the life you've imagined before your boards. We all watched SOTY and dreamed about a campus life like that, but we never actually tried to get that life in real. When we have the option to meet our expectations to reality, why would we think twice?

• College's infrastructure is great. Comfortable for all the students. Washrooms are also clean, classroom are big. There are y floors in total
• Canteen is great with lots of varieties. Library is also great and big. One can sit quietly and read or do any projects or assignments peacefully
• Teaching can be improve. Like teachers are good but they only do 1-2 sums and then they complete their chapter. like if you have any doubts they clear it

I haven't applied for any other college apart from amity. Which is very far from my house and they reviews of that college is not so good as compared to bhawanipur education society college. Actually I studied in the bhawanipur gujrati education society school and I find that building and area very safe so I decided to go for this college If I honestly speak.

The Doctoral Programme of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta was started in 1971. It is a full-time doctoral programme that offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. The Programme aims to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in management studies and in related disciplines, and for careers in the government, in industry, and in other organizations that require advanced analytical and research capabilities.

The Doctoral Programme has two streams :

The Doctoral Programme in Management includes the following - specializations: Economics, Finance & Control, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour, Public Policy and Management, and Strategic Management.

The Doctoral Programme in Disciplines Related to Management includes the following specializations: Operations Research & Systems Analysis, Regional Development, and Sociology.

On successful completion of the Programme, a student is awarded the Ph.D degree, in his/her area of specialization.
