• Proportion – इसमें महत्वपूर्ण विचारों को अधिक स्थान दें।
• Relevance – इसमें महत्वहीन और बिना काम की जानकारी शामिल नहीं की जानी चाहिए।
• Unity –  निबंध को मुख्य विषय से संबंधित होना चाहिए, और उसके सभी भागों को उस विषय से स्पष्ट रूप से जोड़ा जाना चाहिए।
• Coherence – विचार का तार्किक क्रम होना चाहिए। इसके लिए विचारों, वाक्यों और अनुच्छेदों के बीच तार्किक संबंध की आवश्यकता होती है।

When you are assigned a descriptive essay, you’ll normally be given a specific prompt or choice of prompts. They will often ask you to describe something from your own experience.

The key to writing an effective descriptive essay is to find ways of bringing your subject to life for the reader. You’re not limited to providing a literal description as you would be in more formal essay types.

Make use of figurative language, sensory details, and strong word choices to create a memorable description.

Use figurative language

Figurative language consists of devices like metaphor and simile that use words in non-literal ways to create a memorable effect. This is essential in a descriptive essay; it’s what gives your writing its creative edge and makes your description unique.

Take the following description of a park.

This tells us something about the place, but it’s a bit too literal and not likely to be memorable.

If we want to make the description more likely to stick in the reader’s mind, we can use some figurative language.

Here we have used a simile to compare the park to a face and the trees to facial hair. This is memorable because it’s not what the reader expects; it makes them look at the park from a different angle.

You don’t have to fill every sentence with figurative language, but using these devices in an original way at various points throughout your essay will keep the reader engaged and convey your unique perspective on your subject.

Use your senses

Another key aspect of descriptive writing is the use of sensory details. This means referring not only to what something looks like, but also to smell, sound, touch, and taste.

Obviously not all senses will apply to every subject, but it’s always a good idea to explore what’s interesting about your subject beyond just what it looks like.

Even when your subject is more abstract, you might find a way to incorporate the senses more metaphorically, as in this descriptive essay about fear.

Choose the right words

Writing descriptively involves choosing your words carefully. The use of effective adjectives is important, but so is your choice of adverbs , verbs , and even nouns.

It’s easy to end up using clichéd phrases—“cold as ice,” “free as a bird”—but try to reflect further and make more precise, original word choices. Clichés provide conventional ways of describing things, but they don’t tell the reader anything about your unique perspective on what you’re describing.

Try looking over your sentences to find places where a different word would convey your impression more precisely or vividly. Using a thesaurus can help you find alternative word choices.

• My cat runs across the garden quickly and jumps onto the fence to watch it from above.
• My cat crosses the garden nimbly and leaps onto the fence to survey it from above.

However, exercise care in your choices; don’t just look for the most impressive-looking synonym you can find for every word. Overuse of a thesaurus can result in ridiculous sentences like this one:

• My feline perambulates the allotment proficiently and capers atop the palisade to regard it from aloft.

I sometimes feel the same about sitting here in the garden; I know the place better than anyone, but whenever I return I still feel compelled to pay attention to all its details and novelties—a new bird perched in the tree, the growth of the grass, and the movement of the insects it shelters…

Sitting out in the garden, I feel serene. I feel at home. And yet I always feel there is more to discover. The bounds of my garden may be small, but there is a whole world contained within it, and it is one I will never get tired of inhabiting.

Writing an engaging descriptive essay is all about bringing the subject matter to life for the reader so they can experience it with their senses—smells, tastes, and textures. • Figurative language

Have you ever heard the expression “shooting for the stars”? It refers to pushing someone to strive higher or establish lofty goals, but it does not actually mean shooting for the stars. This is an example of using figurative language for conveying strong motivational emotions. In a descriptive essay, figurative language is employed to grab attention and emphasize points by creatively drawing comparisons and exaggerations. But why should descriptive essays use metaphorical language? One it adds to the topic’s interest and humor; two, it facilitates the reader’s increased connection to the subject.

These are the five most often used figurative language techniques: personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, and allusion.

• Simile: A simile is a figure of speech that is used to compare two things while emphasizing and enhancing the description using terms such as “like or as.”

• Metaphor: A metaphor are also used to draw similarities, but without using direct or literal comparisons like done in similes.   

Example: Books are the mirrors of the soul – Virginia Woolf, Between the acts

• Personification: This is the process of giving nonhuman or abstract objects human traits. Any human quality, including an emotional component, a physical attribute, or an action, can be personified.

Example: Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world – Louis Pasteur

• Hyperbole: This is an extreme form of exaggeration, frequently impractical, and usually employed to emphasize a point or idea. It gives the character more nuance and complexity.

Example: The force will be with you, always – Star Wars

• Allusion: This is when you reference a person, work, or event without specifically mentioning them; this leaves room for the reader’s creativity.  

Example: In the text below, Robert Frost uses the biblical Garden of Eden as an example to highlight the idea that nothing, not even paradise, endures forever.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Descriptive essays need a combination of figurative language and strong sensory details to make the essay more memorable. This is when authors describe the subject matter employing senses like smell, sound, touch, and taste so that the reader can relate to it better.

Example of a sensory-based descriptive essay: The earthy fragrance of freshly roasted chestnuts and the sight of bright pink, red, orange fallen leaves on the street reminded her that winter was around the corner.

• Word choice

Word choice is everything in a descriptive essay. For the description to be enchanting, it is essential to utilize the right adjectives and to carefully consider the verbs, nouns, and adverbs. Use unusual terms and phrases that offer a new viewpoint on your topic matter instead of overusing clichés like “fast as the wind” or “lost track of time,” which can make your descriptive essay seem uninteresting and unoriginal.

• Descriptive essay format and outline

Descriptive essay writing does not have to be disorganized, it is advisable to use a structured format to organize your thoughts and ensure coherent flow in your writing. Here is a list of components that should be a part of your descriptive essay outline:

• Introduction
• Opening/hook sentence
• Topic sentence
• Body paragraphs
• Concrete details
• Clincher statement

Introduction:

• Hook: An opening statement that captures attention while introducing the subject.

In English, we place the adjective first, which is then followed by the noun in a sentence. For instance, “tasty fruit” (adjective + noun).

But when this same phrase is put into a proper sentence, the noun and adjective change their positions while the helping verb comes in between: “The fruit is tasty,” (noun + be verb + adjective).

However, in the following Hindi adjectives examples, this process is a little different than how it is in English.

In Hindi grammar, adjectives precede the noun in phrases.

For instance,

• नीला आकाश ( NiiLaa aakaas ) = “blue sky” [adjective + noun]
• And छोटा कमरा ( chotaa kamaraa ) = “small room” [adjective + noun]

In case of a complete sentence though, the adjective and noun change places but there’s no helping verb in the middle. Instead, the “be” verb comes at the end of the sentence.

• खाना (noun) गरम (adjective) है। ( khaaNaa garam hai. ) = “The food is warm.”
• And यह बग़ीचा (noun) सुन्दर (adjective) है। ( yah bagiicaa SuNDar hai. ) = “This garden is beautiful.”

The difference between adjectives and adverbs is that an adjective tells the quality of a noun, whereas an adverb describes the quality of the verb. निबंध 2 (200 शब्द)

भारत एक खूबसूरत देश है जो अपनी अलग संस्कृति और परंपरा के लिये जाना जाता है। ये अपने ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों और स्मारकों के लिये प्रसिद्ध है। यहाँ के नागरिक बेहद विनम्र और प्रकृति से घुले-मिले होते हैं। ब्रिटिश शासन के तहत 1947 से पहले ये एक गुलाम देश था। हालाँकि, हमारे महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों के संघर्ष और समर्पण की वजह से 1947 में भारत को अंग्रेजों से आजादी मिली। जब भारत को आजादी मिली तो पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरु भारत के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री बने और भारतीय झंडे को फहराया और कहा कि “जब दुनिया सोती है, भारत जीवन और आजादी के लिये जागेगा”।

भारत मेरी मातृभूमि है और मैं इसे बहुत प्यार करता हूँ। भारत के लोग स्वभाव से बहुत ही ईमानदार और भरोसेमंद होते हैं। विभिन्न संस्कृति और परंपरा के लोग बिना किसी परेशानी के एक साथ रहते हैं। मेरे देश की मातृ-भाषा हिन्दी है हांलाकि बिना किसी बंधन के अलग-अलग धर्मों के लोगों के द्वारा यहाँ कई भाषाएँ बोली जाती हैं। भारत एक प्राकृतिक सुंदरता का देश है जहाँ समय-समय पर महान लोग पैदा हुए हैं और महान कार्य किये। भारतीयों का स्वाभाव दिल को छू लेने वाला होता है और दूसरे देशों से आये मेहमानों का वो दिल से स्वागत करते हैं।

भारत में जीवन के भारतीय दर्शन का अनुसरण किया जाता है जो सनातन धर्म कहलाता है और यहाँ विविधता में एकता को बनाए रखने के लिये मुख्य कारण बनता है। भारत एक गणतांत्रिक देश है जहाँ देश की जनता को देश के बारे में फैसले लेने का अधिकार है। यहाँ देखने के लिये प्राचीन समय के बहुत सारे अति सुंदर प्राकृतिक दृश्य, स्थल, स्मारक, ऐतिहासिक धरोहर आदि है जो विश्व के हर कोने के लोगों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करते हैं। भारत अपने आध्यात्मिक कार्यों, योगा, मार्शल आर्ट आदि के लिये बहुत प्रसिद्ध है। भारत में दूसरे देशों से भक्तों और तीर्थयात्रियों की एक बड़ी भीड़ यहाँ के प्रसिद्ध मंदिरों, स्थलों और ऐतिहासिक धरोहरों की सुंदरता को देखने आती हैं।

निबंध 3 (350 शब्द)

भारत मेरी मातृ-भूमि है जहाँ मैंने जन्म लिया है। मैं भारत से प्यार करता हूँ और इस पर मुझे गर्व है। भारत एक बड़ा लोकतांत्रिक देश है जो जनसंख्या में चीन के बाद दूसरे स्थान पर काबिज़ है। इसका समृद्ध और शानदार इतिहास रहा है। इसे विश्व की पुरानी सभ्यता के देश के रुप में देखा जाता है। ये सीखने की धरती है जहाँ विश्व के हर कोने से विद्यार्थी यहाँ के विश्वविद्यालयों में पढ़ने के लिये आते हैं। कई धर्मों के लोगों के अपने विभिन्न अनोखे और विविध संस्कृति और परंपरा के लिये ये देश प्रसिद्ध है।

प्रकृति में आकर्षित होने की वजह से विदेशों में रहने वाले लोग भी यहाँ की संस्कृति और परंपरा का अनुसरण करते हैं। कई आक्रमणकारी यहाँ आये और यहाँ की शोभा और बहुमूल्य चीजों को चुरा कर ले गये। कुछ ने इसको अपना गुलाम बना लिया जबकि देश के बहुत से महान नेताओं की संघर्ष और बलिदान की वजह से 1947 में हमारी मातृ-भूमि अंग्रेजों की गुलामी से आजाद हुयी।

जिस दिन हमारी मातृभूमि आजाद हुयी उसी दिन से हर वर्ष 15 अगस्त को स्वतंत्रता दिवस के रुप में मनाया जा रहा है। पंडित नेहरु भारत के प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री बने। प्राकृतिक संसाधनों से भरा देश होने के बावजूद भी यहाँ के रहवासी गरीब हैं। रविन्द्रनाथ टैगोर, सर जगदीश चन्द्र बोस, सर सी.वी.रमन, श्री एच.एन भाभा आदि जैसे उत्कृष्ट लोगों की वजह से तकनीक, विज्ञान, और साहित्य के क्षेत्र में ये लगातार बढ़ रहा है।

ये एक शांतिप्रिय देश है जहाँ बिना किसी हस्तक्षेप के अपने त्योहारों को मनाने के साथ ही विभिन्न धर्मों के लोग अपनी संस्कृति और परंपरा का अनुसरण करते हैं। यहाँ पर कई शानदार ऐतिहासिक इमारतें, विरासत, स्मारक और खूबसूरत दृश्य हैं जो हर वर्ष अलग देशों के लोगों के मन को अपनी ओर खिंचता है। भारत में ताजमहल एक महान स्मारक और प्यार का प्रतीक है तथा कश्मीर धरती के स्वर्ग के रुप में है। ये प्रसिद्ध मंदिरों, मस्ज़िदों, चर्चों, गुरुद्वारों, नदियों, घाटियों, कृषि योग्य मैदान, सबसे उँचा पर्वत आदि का देश है।

निबंध 4 (400 शब्द)

भारत मेरा देश है और मुझे भारतीय होने पर गर्व है। ये विश्व का सातवाँ सबसे बड़ा और विश्व में दूसरा सबसे अधिक जनसंख्या वाला देश है। इसे भारत, हिन्दुस्तान और आर्यव्रत के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। ये एक प्रायद्वीप है जो पूरब में बंगाल की खाड़ी, पश्चिम में अरेबियन सागर और दक्षिण में भारतीय महासागर जैसे तीन महासगरों से घिरा हुआ है। भारत का राष्ट्रीय पशु चीता, राष्ट्रीय पक्षी मोर, राष्ट्रीय फूल कमल, और राष्ट्रीय फल आम है। भारतीय झंडे में तीन रंग है, केसरिया का मतलब शुद्धता (सबसे ऊपर), सफेद अर्थात् शांति (बीच का जिसमें अशोक चक्र है) और हरा रंग का अर्थ उर्वरता से है (सबसे नीचे)। अशोक चक्र में बराबर भागों में 24 तीलियाँ हैं। भारत का राष्ट्र गान “जन गण मन”, राष्ट्रीय गीत “वंदे मातरम” और राष्ट्रीय खेल हॉकी है।

भारत एक ऐसा देश है जहाँ लोग अलग-अलग भाषा बोलते हैं और विभिन्न जाति, धर्म, संप्रदाय और संस्कृति के लोग एक साथ रहते हैं। इसी वजह से भारत में “विविधता में एकता” का ये आम कथन प्रसिद्ध है। इसे आध्यात्मिकता, दर्शन, विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकीय की भूमि भी कहा जाता है। प्राचीन समय से ही यहाँ विभिन्न धर्मों के लोग जैसे हिन्दू, मुस्लिम, सिक्ख, ईसाई, जैन और यहूदी एक साथ रहते हैं। ये देश अपने कृषि और खेती के लिये प्रसिद्ध है जो प्राचीन समय से ही इसका आधार रही है। ये अपने पैदा किये हुए अनाज और फल इस्तेमाल करता है। ये एक प्रसिद्ध पर्यटन का स्वर्ग है क्योंकि पूरे विश्व के लोगों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करता है। ये स्मारकों, मकबरो, चर्चों, ऐतिहासिक इमारतों, मंदिर, संग्रहालयों, रमणीय दृश्य, वन्य जीव अभ्यारण्य, वास्तुशिल्प की जगह आदि इसके राजस्व का जरिया हैं।

ये वो जगह है जहाँ ताजमहल, फतेहपुर सीकरी, स्वर्ण मंदिर, कुतुब मीनार, लाल किला, ऊटी, नीलगिरी, कश्मीर, खजुराहों, अजन्ता और एलोरा की गुफाएँ आदि आश्चर्य मौजूद हैं। ये एक महान नदियों, पहाड़ों, घाटियों, झील और महासागरों का देश है। भारत में मुख्य रूप से हिंदी भाषा बोली जाती है। ये एक ऐसा देश है जहाँ 29 राज्य और 7 केन्द्र शासित प्रदेश है। ये मुख्य रुप से कृषि प्रधान देश है जो गन्ना, कपास, जूट, चावल, गेंहूँ, दाल आदि फसलों के उत्पादन के लिये प्रसिद्ध है। ये एक ऐसा देश है जहाँ महान नेता (शिवाजी, गाँधीजी, नेहरु, डॉ अंबेडकर आदि), महान वैज्ञानिकों (डॉ जगदीश चन्द्र बोस, डॉ होमी भाभा, डॉ सी.वी.रमन, डॉ नारालिकर आदि) और महान समाज सुधारकों (टी.एन.सेशन, पदुरंगाशास्त्री अलवले आदि) ने जन्म लिया। ये एक ऐसा देश है जहाँ शांति और एकता के साथ विविधता मौजूद है।

इस लेख में हम गणित के एक महत्त्वपूर्ण अध्याय के बारे में जानेंगे - What is Statistics?, in Hindi

इस अध्याय से सम्बंधित, अन्य विषयों के बारे में जानने के लिए आप हमारे निम्नलिखित लेख पढ़ सकते हैं:

सांख्यिकी (Statistics) एक ऐसा विज्ञान है, जिसमें 3 चरण शामिल होते हैं:

• सांख्यिकीय डेटा एकत्र करना - लक्षित आबादी (target population) के प्रतिनिधि नमूने (representative sample) से बड़ी मात्रा में संख्यात्मक डेटा एकत्र करना।
• सांख्यिकीय डेटा का विश्लेषण - उस संख्यात्मक डेटा का विश्लेषण करना, इसे प्रयोग करने योग्य जानकारी में परिवर्तित करना।

सांख्यिकीय डेटा मूल रूप से तथ्य (facts) होते हैं जिन्हें हम लक्षित जनसंख्या के नमूने से एकत्र करते हैं। उदाहरण के लिए, चुनाव के बाद एक्जिट पोल में कुछ मतदाताओं से कुछ प्रश्न पूछे जाते हैं, जैसे की, वे किसे वोट देते हैं, उनके लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण राष्ट्रीय/राज्य का मुद्दा क्या है, आदि।

यदि हमारा डेटा संग्रह दोषपूर्ण है, तो उसके विश्लेषण के आधार पर हम जो भी निष्कर्ष निकालते हैं, वह भी गलत होगा।

जनसंख्या (Population) - यह लक्ष्य समूह है जिसके बारे में हम एक सांख्यिकीय अध्ययन करना चाहते हैं, और जिससे हम डेटा एकत्र करना चाहते हैं।

उदाहरण के लिए, लोगों का एक समूह, किसी क्षेत्र में वर्षा की मात्रा, सौर विकिरण पैटर्न, आदि।

जनसंख्या का आकार (अर्थात जनसंख्या में वस्तुओं या व्यक्तियों की कुल संख्या) परिमित (finite) या अनंत (infinite) हो सकता है।

नमूना (Sample) - यह जनसंख्या का वह हिस्सा है जो लक्षित जनसंख्या की सभी विशेषताओं का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है, और जिसे नमूनाकरण (sampling) की प्रक्रिया के माध्यम से सांख्यिकीय अध्ययन के उद्देश्य के लिए चुना गया है।

अधिकांश समय लक्षित जनसंख्या इतनी अधिक होती है, कि हम प्रत्येक तत्व/व्यक्ति का अध्ययन नहीं कर सकते। इसलिए हम इसका एक नमूना लेते हैं, और फिर इसका अध्ययन करने के बाद हम पूरी लक्षित आबादी के बारे में चीजों का अनुमान लगाने की कोशिश करते हैं।

सांख्यिकी की शाखाएं (Branches of Statistics)

सांख्यिकी की दो शाखाएँ हैं:

विवरणात्मक सांख्यिकी (Descriptive statistics) - यह कुछ निश्चित आंकड़ों का सारांश है। यह विश्लेषण के तहत डेटा का एक सिंहावलोकन (overview) देने के उद्देश्य से कार्य करता है। उदाहरण के लिए, यदि आप जानना चाहते हैं कि कोई छात्र गणित में कैसा है, तो आप पिछले 10 गणित परीक्षणों में उसके द्वारा प्राप्त अंकों के औसत पर एक नज़र डाल सकते हैं। हम परिणाम प्रदर्शित करने के लिए विभिन्न तालिकाओं, चार्टों और ग्राफ़ का उपयोग करते हैं।

अनुमानात्मक सांख्यिकी (Inferential statistics) - यह एक सांख्यिकीय पद्धति है जो केवल एक छोटे लेकिन प्रतिनिधि नमूने का विश्लेषण करके, एक बड़ी लक्षित आबादी की विशेषताओं को पता करने में हमारी सहायता करती है। उदाहरण के लिए, एक जीवन बीमा कंपनी में एक बीमांकक (actuary), दिल की समस्याओं वाले व्यक्ति की जीवन प्रत्याशा का पता लगाने की कोशिश करता है और फिर यह तय करता है कि ऐसे लोगों को अपनी जीवन बीमा पॉलिसी के लिए कितना प्रीमियम देना चाहिए। इस उद्देश्य के लिए, वह केवल कुछ हृदय रोगियों के डेटा का विश्लेषण करता है, और फिर संपूर्ण लक्षित आबादी के बारे में धारणा (यानी सामान्यीकरण या निष्कर्ष निकालना) बनाता है। यहां, हमारा लक्ष्य भविष्य की भविष्यवाणी करना है। हमें विश्लेषण के अंत में प्रायिकता अंक (probability scores) मिलते हैं।

वर्णनात्मक सांख्यिकी के उपकरण (Tools of Descriptive Statistics)

दो सामान्य प्रकार के वर्णनात्मक सांख्यिकी उपकरण हैं, जिनका उपयोग डेटा का विश्लेषण और वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है:

• केन्द्रीय प्रवृत्ति की माप (Measures of Central tendency) - उदा. माध्य (Mean), माध्यिका (Median), बहुलक (Mode)
• Measures of Dispersion or Spread - उदा. रेंज (range), चतुर्थक विचलन (quartile deviation), माध्य विचलन (mean deviation) और निरपेक्ष विचलन (absolute deviation), वैरिअन्स (variance), स्टैण्डर्ड डिवीएशन (Standard Deviation)

हम अलग-अलग लेखों में इनका अधिक विस्तार से अध्ययन करेंगे।

अनुमानात्मक सांख्यिकी के उपकरण (Tools of Inferential Statistics)

अनुमानात्मक सांख्यिकी में, हम hypothesis tests, analysis of variance, आदि जैसे उपकरणों का उपयोग करते हैं।

सांख्यिकीय डेटा के प्रकार (Types of Statistical data)

अब, आइए देखें वे विभिन्न प्रकार के डेटा जिनका हम यहाँ सामना कर सकते हैं। डेटा को विभिन्न मापदंडों के आधार पर वर्गीकृत किया जा सकता है।

स्रोत पर आधारित (Based on Source)

उस स्रोत के आधार पर जहां से हमें डेटा मिला है, हम इसे प्राथमिक और द्वितीयक डेटा में विभाजित कर सकते हैं।

प्राथमिक डेटा (Primary Data) - यह किसी अन्वेषक (investigator) द्वारा अपने स्वयं के उद्देश्य के लिए पहली बार एकत्र किया गया डेटा है। उदाहरण के लिए, एग्जिट पोल के दौरान विभिन्न समाचार चैनल एजेंसियों द्वारा एकत्र किए गए डेटा। इस प्रकार के डेटा को अधिक विश्वसनीय और प्रासंगिक माना जाता है।

द्वितीयक डेटा (Secondary Data) - जैसा कि नाम से पता चलता है, जब कोई अन्वेषक ऐसे डेटा का उपयोग करता है जो पहले किसी और द्वारा एकत्र किया गया था, तो इसे द्वितीयक डेटा कहा जाता है। इसलिए, प्राथमिक डेटा, जब किसी और द्वारा उपयोग किया जाता है, तो उसे द्वितीयक डेटा कहा जाता है। उदाहरण के लिए, कभी-कभी कई एग्जिट पोल के पोल किए जाते हैं, यानी सभी विभिन्न एग्जिट पोल का विश्लेषण किया जाता है और उसी के आधार पर एक एक्जिट पोल निकाला जाता है।

प्राथमिक डेटा एकत्र करना एक श्रमसाध्य और समय लेने वाला काम है। कभी-कभी, प्राथमिक डेटा एकत्र करना संभव ही नहीं होता है, भले ही कोई चाहे तो भी। उदाहरण के लिए, यदि कोई प्रथम विश्व युद्ध पर अध्ययन कर रहा है, तो उसे स्पष्ट रूप से पुराने डेटा पर निर्भर रहना ही होगा।

Raw or Ungrouped Data - यह वह डेटा है जिसे बिल्कुल भी व्यवस्थित नहीं किया गया है। उदाहरण के लिए, एक परीक्षा में 8 छात्रों के अंक - 34, 56, 81, 23, 81, 56, 45, 91

Grouped Data - जब एकत्रित किए गए अपरिष्कृत डेटा (raw data) को समूहों/श्रेणियों में व्यवस्थित किया जाता है, तो उसे समूहीकृत डेटा (Grouped data) कहा जाता है। उदाहरण के लिए, एक परीक्षा में 8 छात्रों के अंक - 34, 56, 81, 23, 81, 56, 45, 91, को कुछ समूहों में एक साथ रखा जा सकता है और निम्नानुसार प्रदर्शित किया जा सकता है:

सांख्यिकी में वर्ग (Classes in Statistics)

कभी-कभी हम डेटा को विभिन्न समूहों में विभाजित करते हैं, जिसमें प्रत्येक समूह एक निश्चित सीमा को कवर करता है। इन समूहों को वर्ग (कक्षा, classes) कहा जाता है।

सांख्यिकी में वर्गों से संबंधित कुछ शब्द हैं जिनका आप अक्सर सामना करेंगे। इसलिए, उनके साथ पहले से परिचित होना एक अच्छा विचार होगा।

वर्ग अंतराल (Class Interval)

प्रत्येक वर्ग अंतराल में निम्नलिखित चीज़ें होती है: वर्ग सीमा (Class Limits) - प्रत्येक वर्ग-अंतराल की दो सीमाएँ होती हैं - निचली और ऊपरी। उदाहरण के लिए, वर्ग अंतराल 40-55 के लिए निचली सीमा 40 और ऊपरी सीमा 55 है।

वर्ग आकार (Class Size) - यह एक वर्ग अंतराल की निचली और ऊपरी सीमाओं के बीच का अंतर है। उदाहरण के लिए, 40-55 का वर्ग आकार 55 - 40 = 15 है।

वर्ग चिह्न (Class Mark) - यह एक वर्ग-अंतराल के अंदर एक बिंदु है जो पूरी कक्षा का प्रतिनिधित्व कर सकता है। सामान्य तौर पर, हम मान सकते हैं कि एक वर्ग के भीतर डेटा शायद मध्य-बिंदु के आसपास केंद्रित होगा, इसलिए किसी भी वर्ग के मध्य-बिंदु को एक वर्ग के भीतर आने वाले डेटा का प्रतिनिधित्व करने के लिए चुना जा सकता है। इसलिए, किसी वर्ग के मध्य-बिंदु को उसके वर्ग चिह्न के रूप में लिया जा सकता है।

वर्ग आवृत्ति (Class Frequency) - किसी वर्ग की बारंबारता/Frequency (या निरपेक्ष बारंबारता) उस वर्ग-अंतराल के भीतर अवलोकन या डेटा बिंदुओं की संख्या है। उदाहरण के लिए, वर्ग अंतराल 40-55 के लिए, वर्ग की बारंबारता 7 है। यानी उस श्रेणी में 7 छात्रों को अंक मिले हैं।

वर्ग बारंबारता से संबंधित एक अवधारणा संचयी बारंबारता (Cumulative Frequency) है।

किसी भी वर्ग की संचयी बारंबारता उस वर्ग से पहले की सभी बारंबारताओं को क्रमिक रूप से जोड़कर प्राप्त की जाती है। अर्थात् यह उस वर्ग तक की सभी आवृत्तियों का योग होता है।

उदाहरण के लिए, यदि हम 55 या उससे कम अंक प्राप्त करने वाले छात्रों की संख्या का पता लगाना चाहते हैं, तो हम 55 अंक तक सभी कक्षाओं की बारंबारता जोड़ सकते हैं। हमारी तालिका में यह 2 + 4 + 7 = 13 होगा।

समावेशी और विशिष्ट वितरण (Inclusive and Exclusive distributions)

विशिष्ट वितरण (exclusive distribution).

अपवर्जी वर्गों (exclusive classes) में, किसी वर्ग की ऊपरी और निचली सीमा को क्रमशः उसकी सच्ची ऊपरी सीमा और सच्ची निचली सीमा के रूप में जाना जाता है।

समावेशी वितरण (Inclusive Distribution)

समावेशी वर्गों में, किसी वर्ग की वास्तविक निचली और ऊपरी सीमाएँ ऐसे प्राप्त की जाती हैं:

• निचली सीमा से 0.5 घटाकर, और
• ऊपरी सीमा में 0.5 जोड़कर।

किसी वर्ग की सच्ची ऊपरी सीमाएँ और सच्ची निचली सीमाएँ उस वर्ग की सीमाएँ (boundaries) कहलाती हैं।

डेटा का ग्राफिकल निरूपण (Graphical representation of data)

जबकि हम लगभग हमेशा ही डेटा तालिकाओं का उपयोग अवर्गीकृत या समूहीकृत डेटा (ungrouped or grouped data) का निरूपण करने के लिए कर सकते हैं। यह हमें विज़ुअलाइज़ेशन (visualization) में बहुत मदद नहीं करता है।

लेकिन सौभाग्य से, किसी दिए गए डेटा को हमेशा ग्राफिकल तरीके से भी दर्शाया जा सकता है।

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern 2024

The following points are the highlights of the SBI PO Prelims Exam:

• There will be three sections.
• Category-wise merit list will be drawn based on the aggregate marks scored in the Preliminary Exam.
• There will be no sectional cut-off . However, there will be an overall cut-off.
• There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.

The SBI PO Prelims Exam will have 3 sections:

SBI PO Prelims Syllabus 2024

The preliminary examination of the SBI PO exam comprises Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Language. The complete details of the heading and sub-heading of the sections asked in the Preliminary Exam of the SBI PO exam are discussed below:

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern 2024

Candidates meeting the required cut-off in SBI Prelims will be eligible to appear for the Mains Exam. There are changes in the Mains Section with an increase in the weightage of General Economy/ Banking Awareness and the duration of the test will be 3 hours.

The  Descriptive Test has a duration of 30 minutes with a score of 50 marks . This test is conducted to test the writing skills of candidates via Letter Writing and essay Writing.

The following points are the highlights of the SBI PO Mains Exam:

• All the questions will be objective.
• This main paper will have four sections for a total of 200 marks.
• The duration of the SBI PO Mains Exam will be 3 hours.
• The objective test will have separate timing for every section.
• There will be no sectional cut-off . There will be only an overall cut-off.
• There will be a penalty of 0.25 marks for every incorrect Multiple Choice Question.
• The Descriptive Paper of 50 marks is compulsory to attempt.

Note: The descriptive  paper of a candidate will be checked only if they qualify in the Objective test as per the qualifying marks decided by the Bank.

SBI PO Mains Syllabus 2024

The Mains Examination of the SBI PO exam comprises 4 sections:

• Data Analysis & Interpretation
• Reasoning & Computer Aptitude
• General/Economy/Banking Awareness
• The SBI PO Mains syllabus comprises a descriptive test as well. The descriptive test consists of two questions, one letter writing and one essay each of 25 marks making a total of 50 marks.
• Candidates need to score passing marks in the descriptive test as well to qualify for the SBI PO mains exam.

SBI PO Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Paper which lasts for 30 minutes and is worth 50 marks tests candidates’s English skills through letter writing and essay writing. After passing the preliminary and main exams, candidates move on to the interview phase of the SBI PO exam. The final merit list is determined by the marks obtained in both the main exam and the interview.

SBI PO Interview 2024

Psychometric Test- The Bank may conduct a Psychometric test for personality profiling, of those candidates who will be shortlisted for Phase III. The findings of the test may be placed before the Interview panel to have a thorough perspective on the candidates.

This is the final stage of selection for successful candidates who qualify for the first two phases of the SBI PO exam. The Group Discussion accounts for 20 marks while the Interview is for 30 marks.

• The aggregate marks of all the candidates clearing both the Objective Tests and Descriptive tests will be arranged in descending order in each category.
• The decided number of candidates in each category, as governed by the Bank will be called for Group Exercises and interviews.
• The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank.

SBI PO 2024 Final Selection

The final score for the  SBI PO Exam  is calculated keeping the below points in mind:

• Marks secured in the Preliminary Exam (Phase-1) will not be considered for selection
• Candidates must qualify for Phase-2 and Phase-3 separately to be eligible
• Marks secured by the candidates in the SBI PO Mains Exam (out of 250 marks) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Exercises & Interview (out of 50 marks) are converted to out of 25. This makes the new total score (Mains + GD/PI) to be 100
• The aggregate score out of 100 is used for the final merit list for each category. Candidates with top merit rank in each category are finally selected.
