No two journeys are the same, and various factors will always be at play. It’s the reason many documents their expedition through different mediums. Writing about journeys is similar to telling a real-life story that influenced your character or perspective.

Writing essays about journeys helps to develop your writing and observation skills as you recall and pick the highlights of your travel. Sharing your experiences can entice readers to take on a journey themselves. So, aim to inspire with this exciting essay topic.

5 Essay Examples

1. the best journey in my life by suzanne pittman, 2. road trips: everything you need for a comfortable journey by car by anonymous on gradesfixer.com, 3. the first day of my journey to adulthood by anonymous on papersowl.com, 4. life is a journey essay by anonymous on paperwritings.com, 5. long essay on train journey by prasanna, 1. reasons to go on a journey, 2. trip vs. journey, 3. how to enjoy long journeys, 4. my most memorable journey, 5. what makes a journey meaningful, 6. my dream journey, 7. a hero’s journey.

“I had to save a lot of money because I wanted very much to go on this journey with my friends. We planned our trip to take us around Europe. We were going to stop in various parts of Europe with family members and friends.”

The essay mimics Pittman’s travel itinerary during her journey in Europe. She includes all the trip details from the first to the last day and makes the readers feel as if they’re traveling with them. Pittman also offers some travel tips to help anyone who wants to visit Europe on a budget. These tips include staying with friends and relatives and taking comfortable train rides despite long distances.

“With proper planning, everything else seems effortless. You need to consider all factors when planning in order for you to enjoy a successful, stress-free adventure.”

The author believes that the primary purpose of traveling is to relax and have fun. They use the essay to teach how to plan car trips properly. Travelers must learn to budget and estimate expenses, including accommodation, gas, activities, and food. Picking a transportation means is also crucial as one needs to consider factors such as capacity, range, and utility.

“Although things didn’t go how I planned I’m still in college bettering myself and furthering my education. Anything is possible with a good support system and positive mindset.”

The essay narrates how the author’s journey into adulthood becomes a mini-vacation in Georgia after their top university rejects their enrollment. This rejection offers the opportunity to understand many great life lessons. Despite having five other universities to choose from, the writer realizes they only provide free tuition for the first semester. Ultimately, the author receives a full scholarship to a university closer to home.

“All people have the same journey to take – their life. As well as in the other journeys, there may be some inconveniences, disappointments and joys, and a lot depends on how we plan this particular journey and what attitude we develop towards it.”

In this essay, the writer shares that the best way to go on a life journey is with the most joy and minor damage you can endure. It’s constant work to continuously improve one’s life while developing positive qualities and thinking. But in doing so, you’ll have a solid foundation to achieve what you want out of life. However, the author still reminds the readers that they should always be ready to face unexpected events and deal with them in the best way possible.

“These days, people prefer traveling via airplanes because it is time-saving. But going by plane gets boring and monotonous. Train journeys are a relief from the monotony.”

For Prasanna, whether it’s a short or extended tour, a train journey offers an exciting travel experience. She talks about the local and regional trains in India, which are often overcrowded but still used by many as they are the cheapest, safest, and fastest mode of transport in the country. She also mentions that you’ll never get hungry when riding their local trains because of the vendors who sell Indian delicacies.

7 Prompts for Essays About Journeys

Essays About Journeys: Reasons to go on a journey

Everyone has different motives for traveling. Some go on a journey to appreciate beautiful sceneries, while some move to attend family or work-related gatherings. Some do so to run away from problems. For this prompt, research the common reasons to travel. You can also interview people on why they go on a journey and add any personal experiences.

It’s a trip when a person travels from one point to another without any transfers. Meanwhile, a journey is a more extended voyage that includes transfers and several trips. Compare and contrast trips and journeys to make your readers understand their similarities and differences. You can also have the advantages and disadvantages of each in your paper.

If writing an essay sounds like a lot of work, simplify it. Write a simple 5 paragraph essay instead.

The idea of having a long journey and discovering new things is exciting. However, the excitement can disappear when you’re far away from home. This is especially true for longer and farther travels. This prompt will help readers have a safer, more affordable, and more enjoyable trip by discussing the best long-distance travel tips. You can present an imaginary itinerary with estimated costs to make the essay more digestible.

Write about an unforgettable journey you’ve had through this prompt. Include the purpose of your travel, how you planned it, and if your timetable was followed. Share what you’ll improve on next time to make your journey even better; you can also talk about your companions and the activities that make the adventure worthwhile.

Journeys become meaningful when they enrich lives. It can be because of the destination, the people you are with, or the travel’s goal. Use this prompt to suggest how journeys improve us as humans. You can section your piece based on an individual’s objectives. For example, someone who wants to recharge and get away from the city will find meaning in going to a location far from technology.

Essays About Journeys: My dream journey

Although traveling can be tiring, 43% of travelers appreciate the experience they gain. Think of journeys you desire to be in and add your reasons. Then, you can share your plan on how to make it happen. For instance, you want to tour Southeast Asia and visit countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. To make this dream journey come true, you’ll save for an entire year and work around a tight budget.

It’s normal to see the main character in a movie or novel go through a character arc before they become a true hero. Use this prompt to explain a hero’s journey and why the character must go through it. To give you an idea, Peter Parker was a shy and introverted kid who lived an everyday life before becoming Spider-Man. This makes him relatable to the audience and lets them understand his decisions in the following scenes.

You can also talk about real-life heroes, such as doctors and firefighters. Interview someone with that profession and ask them why they decided to have their current career.

Short Essay: My Adventurous Trip

Writing about an adventurous trip not only lets you relive the experience but also allows you to share the thrills and lessons learned with others. Whether you scaled mountains, navigated foreign cities, or embarked on a wilderness safari, each moment holds a story worth telling. Here’s how to craft a compelling short essay about your adventurous trip that captures the essence of your experience.

Table of Contents

Introduction

Begin with an attention-grabbing opener that sets the tone for your adventure. This could be a vivid description of a pivotal moment, a surprising fact about your destination, or a brief anecdote that sums up the spirit of the adventure. Introduce the destination and the purpose of your trip, leading into a thesis statement that outlines what your essay will cover.

The body of your essay should consist of several paragraphs, each focusing on different aspects or key experiences of your trip. Here’s how to structure it:

  • The Journey Begins:  Describe how you prepared for the trip and your feelings as you set off. This sets the stage and gives context to the narrative.
  • Key Adventures:  Focus on one or two significant adventures. Describe the setting, the people involved, and the activity itself. Use sensory details to bring scenes to life (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste).
  • Challenges and Overcoming Them:  Share challenges you faced during these adventures. Describe how you dealt with these situations, what you learned, and how these experiences changed you. This adds depth to your narrative and makes it more engaging.
  • Cultural Encounters and Insights:  If your adventure involved interacting with different cultures or environments, describe these experiences. What new understandings did you gain? How did they impact your perception of the world?

Conclude your essay by summarizing the key points. Reflect on the overall impact of the trip on your life and outlook. End with a reflective thought or a lesson that readers can take away from your adventures.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example #1

Traveling is one of the most exciting experiences one can have in life. It allows us to explore new places, meet different people, and create unforgettable memories. My recent adventurous trip was one such experience that I will cherish for a lifetime. The trip involved hiking through a dense forest, crossing a river, and reaching the summit of a mountain, where I enjoyed a breathtaking view. Despite facing challenges such as unpredictable weather and rough terrain, the trip was a memorable and rewarding experience. In this essay, I will share my experience of this adventurous trip, highlighting the challenges, the exhilarating moments, and the memories that I will cherish forever.

Our trip started with hiking through a dense forest. The forest was full of tall trees, colorful flowers, and chirping birds. The trail was steep and rocky, and we had to be careful while walking. The forest was so dense that we could hardly see the sun, and the air was full of freshness. We had to take breaks in between to catch our breath and hydrate ourselves. As we walked, we could hear the sound of a river, and after a few hours of hiking, we finally reached the river. The river was wide and had a strong current, and we had to cross it to continue our journey. We had to be careful while crossing the river, and we held hands to maintain our balance. The water was cold, and we could feel the current pushing us, but we made it to the other side, feeling proud of ourselves.

The highlight of our trip was reaching the summit of the mountain. The climb was steep and exhausting, but the view from the top was worth every effort. From the top of the mountain, we could see the entire valley, and it was a sight to behold. The sky was clear, and the sun was shining brightly, making the view even more beautiful. We took pictures and sat there for a while, enjoying the serene beauty of nature. We could hear the sound of birds and feel the cool breeze on our faces. It was a moment of pure bliss, and we felt grateful for being able to witness such a beautiful view.

Despite facing challenges such as unpredictable weather and rough terrain, the trip was a memorable and rewarding experience. We had to face unexpected rain and strong winds, which made the climb more challenging. We slipped a few times, but we managed to keep going, motivated by the thought of reaching the summit. The journey was long and tiring, but the memories we created were worth it. We bonded with our fellow travelers, shared laughter, and created memories that we will cherish forever. The trip taught us to be resilient, to push ourselves beyond our limits, and to appreciate the beauty of nature.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to explore the beauty of nature, push my limits, and create memories that I will cherish forever. Hiking through a dense forest, crossing a river, and reaching the summit of a mountain were challenging but rewarding experiences. Despite facing unpredictable weather and rough terrain, we persevered and created memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. The trip taught us the importance of resilience, perseverance, and appreciation for the beauty of nature. It was an experience that I will always treasure and would love to relive again.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example #2

My adventurous trip was an experience of a lifetime. It was a chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and explore the great outdoors. The trip was filled with activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking. The beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings made the trip memorable. Overcoming challenges such as inclement weather and physical exertion added to the sense of accomplishment and adventure. In this essay, I will share my experiences of this unforgettable trip.

Hiking was one of the most exciting activities of the trip. We started our hike early in the morning, and the trail was challenging, but the view was worth it. The trail led us through dense forests, and we saw wildflowers, butterflies, and birds along the way. We stopped for a break at a small waterfall, and the sound of the water was soothing. As we continued our hike, we came across a steep incline, which was physically demanding, but we pushed on. At the peak, we were rewarded with an incredible view of the valley below. The sense of accomplishment we felt after completing the hike was indescribable.

Camping was another activity that added to the adventure of the trip. We set up our tents near a lake, and the view was breathtaking. We spent the night sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows, and sharing stories. The night sky was clear, and we saw countless stars, which was a beautiful sight. The next morning, we woke up early to go kayaking on the lake. The water was calm, and we saw fish jumping out of the water. We even saw a family of ducks swimming nearby. Kayaking was a peaceful and relaxing experience.

The trip was not without its challenges, however. We faced inclement weather during our kayaking, and it was physically demanding. The waves were strong, and the water was choppy. We had to navigate our kayaks through the waves carefully. At times, it was nerve-wracking, but we were able to push through and complete the activity. Overcoming these challenges added to the sense of adventure and accomplishment.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an experience that I will cherish forever. The activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking, the beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings, and the challenges we faced made the trip unforgettable. It was an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone, explore the great outdoors, and create memories with friends. I hope to have more opportunities like this in the future.

My Adventurous Trip Essay Example #3

Going on an adventurous trip is an experience that many people crave. It is an opportunity to explore new destinations, push oneself to the limit, and create unforgettable memories. I recently had the chance to embark on one such journey, and it was an experience that I will never forget. My adventurous trip involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall. Along the way, I encountered challenging terrain and had to navigate through rough terrain. Despite the difficulties, the stunning views and sense of accomplishment made the trip a truly unforgettable adventure. In this essay, I will describe my trip in detail, highlighting the challenges and the rewards that came with it.

The first part of my adventurous trip involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall. The trail was not well-marked, and the terrain was challenging, consisting of steep inclines, muddy patches, and slippery rocks. The dense foliage made it difficult to see the path ahead, and we had to rely on our instincts and map reading skills to find our way through. The forest was alive with the sounds of birds and small animals, and the air was fresh and invigorating. As we got closer to our destination, the sound of rushing water became louder, and we knew we were getting close. Finally, after several hours of hiking, we arrived at the waterfall, and the sight before us was breathtaking. The waterfall was a powerful force of nature, cascading down from a height of over 100 feet. The water was crystal clear, and the surrounding rocks were covered in moss and ferns. It was a sight that made all the hiking and exertion worth it.

The second part of my adventurous trip involved navigating through rough terrain. The terrain was rocky and uneven, and we had to be careful not to slip or fall. At some points, the trail was so steep that we had to use ropes to climb up or down. The weather was also unpredictable, and we had to be prepared for sudden rain or wind. Despite the challenges, the sense of adventure and excitement kept us going. We were a group of friends, and we encouraged and supported each other along the way. We shared food and water, helped each other over difficult patches, and cheered each other on when we reached a milestone. The journey was not just about reaching the destination; it was also about the bonds we formed and the memories we created.

The final part of my adventurous trip was the sense of accomplishment that came with it. After several hours of hiking, navigating challenging terrain, and enduring unpredictable weather, we finally reached our destination. The feeling of standing in front of the waterfall, surrounded by the beauty of nature, was indescribable. It was a sense of accomplishment that came from pushing ourselves beyond our limits, from facing our fears and overcoming them. We took pictures, laughed, and savored the moment. It was a feeling that stayed with us long after the trip was over. The adventurous trip was not just a physical journey; it was also a journey of the mind and the spirit.

In conclusion, my adventurous trip was an experience that I will never forget. It involved hiking through a dense forest to reach a remote waterfall, navigating through rough terrain, and the sense of accomplishment that came with it. The trip was challenging, but it was also rewarding. It reminded me of the beauty of nature, the importance of perseverance, and the power of friendship. It was an experience that taught me to appreciate the simple things in life and to embrace the adventure that comes with it.

My English Learning Journey

I have been learning English since I was around 10 years old. Everything I was taught at school were tenses, verb conjugations, plural rules, complex grammar,… Every day my teacher required us to memorize new words by writing them down 10 times. Learning English was always a challenge for me. I got sick of vocabulary, of grammar rules, of English. And then one day, when I was probably in grade 10, my parents decided to buy me a computer. The computer has become my best friend ever since. I was amazed at how wonderful things were. The world has become a smaller place and people has become closer to each other. I could learn whatever I wanted without any help from others.

I began to listen to music, and watch TV shows. The first TV show that I watched was Hannah Montana. The TV show was just hilarious. I had picked up quite a lot of vocabulary from the show and it has become a memorable experience. It was also when I happened to fall in love with the language. I remember back then, I downloaded numerous English songs to my iPOD and listened to them everyday. I discovered many websites where people from all over the world exchanged languages and cultures with each other. I had made a lot of foreign friends there and sometimes we talked long hours about everything in life. In the first place, I thought the only reason why people learned English was to communicate with each other.  Not until did I immerse into the language that I realized the very language was the best way to create a strong bond between me and the endless knowledge of the world.

I could see a significant improvement in my English skills. And thanks to English, I have learned much more about the world around me. The journey towards language fluency is not always easy and I still have a long way to go. I don’t, however, give up on it. I enjoy the journey that I’ve been through rather than the destination ahead. If you don’t know where you are, if you’re not sure what to do next, just do whatever you love. If you are struggling with learning English, then let it be! Watch movies and laugh hard, read books and think thoroughly, play games and relax.

How To Write An Opinion Essay

Starting an essay: innovative approaches, a guide to understanding essay length spectrum, methods on how to lengthen an essay, writing a personal essay from the start.

Lesley J. Vos

When you’re applying to college, your essay can be a key part of your application. Admission offices receive hundreds of essays, making it hard to give each one the attention it deserves. To stand out, it’s important to start your essay in a way that grabs the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

Think of your essay’s introduction as a first impression. Just like a strong handshake or a friendly smile sets the tone for a conversation, a well-crafted opening sets the stage for the rest of your essay. Your goal is to intrigue the reader, making them want to read more.

How to Start a Personal Essay by Immersing Yourself in the Topic

Starting a personal essay can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure how to begin. One of the best ways to kick off your essay is by immersing yourself in your topic. This means diving deep into your subject and exploring it from multiple angles.

First, it’s important to really get to know your subject. This isn’t just about reading a few articles or skimming a book. Spend some time thinking about your topic, researching it, and even discussing it with others. The more you learn, the more material you’ll have to draw from when you start writing.

Imagine you’re writing about a personal experience. Try to see it not just from your own point of view but also from the perspectives of others who were involved. What were their thoughts and feelings? How did the experience impact them? This approach can help you create a richer, more nuanced essay.

For example, if you’re writing about a family trip, don’t just focus on your own memories. Talk to your family members about their recollections. You might discover new details that you had forgotten or never knew about. This process can lead to unique insights that make your essay stand out.

Immersing yourself in your topic can also spark creativity. As you dig deeper, you might find connections between your subject and other areas of your life or broader themes. These connections can add layers of meaning to your essay and engage your readers on a deeper level.

How to Begin a Personal Essay with Narrative Framing

Narrative framing means setting your essay within a larger story, giving your readers a context that draws them in from the start. One of the best ways to do this is by starting with a personal anecdote or a historical event. A personal story can make your essay feel more relatable and real. For example, if you’re writing about overcoming a challenge, you might begin with a moment that captures the essence of that struggle. This helps your readers connect with your experience right away.

There are many benefits to this approach. First, it grabs attention . A well-told story is a natural hook that makes readers want to know more. Second, it sets the stage for your main message . You provide a backdrop that makes your main points more powerful and meaningful by framing your essay with a narrative. For example, if your essay is about the importance of resilience, you could start with a story about a time you faced a major setback. Describe the situation vividly, focusing on specific details that highlight your emotions and actions. This not only makes your essay more engaging but also shows your readers why resilience is important in a concrete way.

Challenge Common Assumptions in Your Introduction

When writing an essay, one powerful way to grab your reader’s attention is by challenging common assumptions. This means questioning widely accepted beliefs or presenting ideas that go against the grain. It can make your essay stand out and invite readers to think more deeply about your topic.

Starting with a counterintuitive idea or a provocative question can immediately engage your readers. It makes them pause and reconsider what they thought they knew. This approach encourages critical thinking and sets the stage for a thoughtful and insightful essay.

Instead of just presenting facts, you’re inviting your readers to explore a new perspective with you.

For instance, if you’re writing about technology, you could start by questioning the assumption that all technological advances are beneficial. Instead, you might present the idea that some technological developments can actually have negative effects on society. This kind of introduction not only grabs attention but also sets up a more nuanced discussion.

Let’s look at the three examples of essays that successfully challenge common assumptions.

Writing a Personal Essay From the Start

This essay could then present evidence that standardized tests often favor certain groups of students over others, highlighting biases in the system. It might explore alternative assessment methods like portfolio reviews or project-based evaluations, showing how these can provide a more holistic view of a student’s capabilities.

Writing a Personal Essay From the Start

This essay could delve into the benefits of healthy fats found in foods like avocados, nuts, and olive oil. The writer can help readers understand that not all fats are harmful and that some are actually necessary for good health by contrasting these with trans fats and explaining their different effects on the body.

Writing a Personal Essay From the Start

This piece could highlight the limitations of recycling, such as the fact that not all materials are recyclable and the process itself can be energy-intensive. It might suggest more effective ways to reduce waste, like reducing consumption and reusing materials, thus encouraging readers to think beyond the recycling bin.

Challenging common assumptions in your introduction captures interest and encourages your readers to engage with your essay on a deeper level. It’s a great way to start a meaningful conversation and make your writing memorable.

Set the Stage with a Hypothetical Scenario

Creating a hypothetical scenario can be a great way to highlight the relevance of your topic. You can make complex ideas more accessible and relatable for your readers by imagining a situation that connects directly to your subject.

Imagine you’re writing about the impact of technology on daily life. You could begin with a scenario like this: “ Picture waking up one morning to find all your digital devices have stopped working. No smartphone, no internet, no digital assistants. How would your day unfold? ” This scenario instantly draws readers in and makes them think about the significance of technology in their own lives.

A hypothetical situation helps to simplify complicated ideas. It gives your readers a concrete example to hold onto, making abstract concepts easier to grasp. This approach also engages their imagination and emotions, which can make your essay more memorable.

Here are some tips for crafting an engaging hypothetical scenario:

Writing a Personal Essay From the Start

When you set the stage with a hypothetical scenario, you create a strong opening that captivates your readers and makes your topic feel immediate and relevant.

Introduce a Tension or Conflict Right at the Start

Who doesn’t like drama? A tension or conflict can make your writing instantly engaging since it provokes readers to feel emotions and they get curious about what kind of view you will present. Talking about a problem or a clash of ideas right away grabs your readers’ attention.

Imagine you’re writing about climate change. You could start with a tension like this: “ Despite overwhelming evidence, some people still deny climate change. What happens when their views clash with scientific facts? ” This introduction sets up a conflict that immediately draws readers in, making them want to know more about the arguments and the resolution.

Creating tension or conflict in your introduction can evoke curiosity, concern, or excitement. This emotional engagement is a great way to start because it helps your readers connect with your essay on a deeper level. When readers feel something, they are more likely to stay interested and invested in what you have to say.

How the Intro Influences Your Personal Essay Outline

What comes after the introduction? Right, the essay itself. Think of your intro as setting the stage for everything that follows. A strong intro grabs attention and helps you organize your thoughts and structure your essay.

Your introduction is a roadmap. It gives your readers a preview of what to expect and helps you stay on track.

For instance, if you start with a personal story, your outline will likely follow the narrative structure of that story. This makes it easier for you to decide what points to include and in what order.

Starting with a question or a bold statement can guide your outline too. If your essay begins by questioning a common belief, your outline will include sections that explore different viewpoints and provide evidence to support your argument. This approach helps ensure your essay is logical and cohesive.

Here are a few tips on how your intro can shape your essay outline:

  • Set the Tone . Your introduction sets the tone for your essay. If you start with an emotional anecdote, your essay might follow a more personal and reflective tone. If you start with a fact or statistic, your essay might take on a more analytical tone.
  • Highlight Main Points . Use your intro to hint at the main points you’ll cover. This helps you create an outline that flows naturally from one point to the next.
  • Create a Hook . An engaging intro with a strong hook can keep your readers interested and eager to read more. This means your outline should maintain that interest by including compelling points and evidence throughout.

For example, if your intro is about a life-changing event, your outline could include sections on what led up to the event, how it unfolded, and its impact on your life. Each part of your essay will then connect back to the theme introduced in your opening.

How to Start a Personal Essay Examples

A Lesson from Grandma “I remember sitting on my grandmother’s porch, her weathered hands knitting a colorful scarf. She looked at me with her wise eyes and said, ‘Always stand up for what you believe in, even if you’re standing alone.’ That moment shaped my entire outlook on life.”

The Day My World Changed “When I was twelve, my family moved from a small town in Iowa to bustling New York City. The noise, the crowds, and the skyscrapers were overwhelming, but they also opened my eyes to a world I never knew existed.”

A Summer to Remember “The summer before my senior year, I spent three months volunteering at a local animal shelter. It was there, amidst the barking dogs and purring cats, that I discovered my passion for veterinary medicine.”

Overcoming My Fear of Water “For most of my childhood, I was terrified of water. It wasn’t until I was fourteen, standing on the edge of a diving board, that I decided to face my fear head-on. That jump changed everything for me.”

The Unexpected Mentor “In my sophomore year, I met Mr. Thompson, my English teacher. He wasn’t just a teacher; he was a mentor who pushed me to think differently and write fearlessly. His guidance changed my path in ways I never imagined.”

The Joy of Baking “Baking has always been my escape. The process of mixing ingredients, the smell of cookies in the oven, and the joy of sharing them with friends and family bring me a sense of peace and happiness that nothing else can.”

A Journey Through Music “Picking up the guitar for the first time felt like magic. Each chord I learned opened up a new world of expression, and before I knew it, music became my voice when words failed me.”

The Impact of a Smile “It was a small gesture—a simple smile from a stranger—but it came on a day when I felt invisible. That smile reminded me of the power of kindness and the difference we can make in each other’s lives.”

My First Job “Working at the local coffee shop wasn’t glamorous, but it taught me more about responsibility, customer service, and hard work than any classroom ever could. Plus, I make a mean cappuccino now!”

Learning to Say No “As a people pleaser, saying ‘no’ never came easy. It wasn’t until I overcommitted myself to a dozen activities that I realized the importance of setting boundaries. Learning to say ‘no’ has been a game-changer in balancing my life.”

How do you write an introduction for a personal essay?

To write an introduction for a personal essay, start by sharing a vivid anecdote, a thought-provoking question, or a striking quote that relates to your main theme. This sets the scene and hooks your readers. Make sure your introduction hints at the broader narrative and gives a glimpse of what to expect without revealing too much.

What are good starts to personal essays?

Good starts to personal essays often include a captivating story, a surprising fact, or a heartfelt memory. These openings draw readers in and make them curious about the rest of your essay. For example, beginning with a pivotal moment in your life or a unique personal insight can be very effective.

What is the first sentence of a personal essay?

The first sentence of a personal essay should grab the reader’s attention and set the tone for the rest of the piece. It might be a compelling statement, an intriguing question, or a vivid description of a scene. This opening line should make readers want to continue reading to find out more.

How do you start and end a personal essay?

Start a personal essay with an engaging hook, such as a memorable story, a question, or a striking fact that introduces your main theme. To end a personal essay, reflect on the journey you described, tying back to your opening and highlighting the lessons learned or how the experience shaped you. This creates a cohesive and satisfying conclusion.

Memorable Day of My Life: 120 Words

Last month, our school arranged a trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The beauty of the Taj Mahal seemed to have no parallel.  It is made of white marble on the bank of the river Yamuna. The garden in front of it has tall cypress trees, colourful flowers, and rows of mountains. Many precious gems and stones are seen set on the tomb.

I found in the Taj Mahal the artistic and cultural heritage of India. Every stone of this building tells the story of the true love of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz. The white marble structure unrolled before me a new world of beauty. It is, indeed, matchless in beauty and grandeur. That’s why it is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. I was greatly charmed by its beauty. I felt breathless for a white. It was undoubtedly the most memorable day of my life.

Essay on ‘My First Train Journey’ – Essay4 (400 words)

My First Train Journey

My very first train journey was an unforgettable experience that I embarked on when I was in the 2nd standard. It was a special trip to attend my maternal aunt’s wedding in Dehradun. As soon as the news of the wedding spread, excitement and joy filled our home. My mother began planning her outfits, while my father organized our travel arrangements. We decided to travel by train, accompanied by a few relatives, marking my maiden voyage on a train.

Planning the Train Journey

Train journeys require meticulous planning for a smooth and enjoyable trip. My parents carefully studied the available trains on our route to select the most convenient option. We booked our tickets well in advance, packed our bags, and ensured that all necessary arrangements were in place for our journey.

The Journey Begins

Our train journey commenced as a night voyage. We arrived at the railway station on time, settled into our seats, and, within a few minutes, the train began its journey.

Fun on the Way

As we greeted our relatives and settled in for the long journey, there was an air of excitement. Many of us hadn’t seen each other in months, so there was plenty to catch up on. I sat with my cousins, and we eagerly planned to make the most of this train journey. They had brought along board games, and we engaged in an entertaining one.

After a few rounds of the game, it was time for dinner. The food served on the train was surprisingly delectable. Following dinner, I found a cozy spot by the window. Despite the darkness of the night, I enjoyed the rhythmic sounds of the moving train, a novel experience for me.

As everyone finished their meals, we decided to play antakshari . Our relatives enthusiastically joined in, and we sang songs and played antakshari for an hour before it was time to rest.

A Scenic Morning

The next morning, I awoke early and was greeted by a stunning view outside the window. The lush green fields, the rising sun, the distant hills, and the charming huts along the way — everything appeared exceptionally beautiful. This scenic morning view was the highlight of my train journey.

In hindsight, my first train journey was incredibly exciting and fascinating. I cherished every moment of it, and the delightful company of my cousins added an extra layer of enjoyment to the experience.

Long Essay on Journey by Train

Essay on ‘a memorable journey by train’ – essay 4 (500 words).

Introduction

I have gone on many train journeys with my family as well as friends. Travelling by train is comfortable and enjoyable. I always prefer train journeys over road trips for the experience they offer. I have made great memories on these trips. While I have enjoyed all my train journeys, my train travel from Delhi to Goa is the closest to my heart.

Journey from Delhi to Goa

I went for a trip to Goa with my classmates when I was in seventh standard. The trip was planned by the school. After much persuasion, my parents agreed to send me on the trip. Most of my friends also got the consent from their parents. We planned to do a lot of fun things on the trip.

Besides, site-seeing and having fun with friends on the trip, I was also excited about the train journey. The train journey from Delhi to Goa was for around one and a half day. This was the longest journey I had ever gone on. I was really looking forward to it.

My parents dropped me to the station. They were a bit anxious as this was the first time I was travelling so far without them. My mother gave me last minute instructions and I nodded obediently as I eagerly awaited the train. We left from Delhi at around 5 in the evening. I sat by the window with one of my friends by my side.

Travelling with Friends

Travelling with friends is always fun. I had been to Jaipur, Nanital and Shimla with my friends. All these trips were planned by our school. We travelled by train on all these trips and had a lot of fun on the way but none of them involved so much travelling. Most of these were overnight journeys. But on our trip to Goa we spent one night and one and a half day in the train.

I kept sitting by the window for the first two-three hours of the journey. I loved the view outside. As it started getting dark, I joined my friends who were playing dumb charades. We kept playing this game until it was time for dinner. After having our dinner, we chatted until late night. We shared our experiences, narrated interesting stories and mimicked our teachers. It was all great fun. I slept comfortably at night and woke up late.

The breakfast was served almost immediately after I woke up. After having the breakfast, I went and stood by the train door which was half opened. The view outside was beautiful. I love nature and I can watch the trees, hills and the water bodies for hours. It soothes and pleases my senses and offers a delightful experience.

I kept standing there for a long time. One of my friends joined me there. We enjoyed the view and spoke about our love for travelling and nature. During the rest of the day, we played games, had food and chatted with each other. We reached Goa at around 11 at night.

This train journey was an awesome experience. I enjoyed it thoroughly and made several beautiful memories on the way.

Unforgettable Moments

The journey was filled with fun and laughter. We sang songs, shared stories, and played games. The scenic beauty of the mountains was mesmerizing.

We helped each other during the trek. This trip strengthened our friendship and taught us teamwork. We learned to respect nature and its beauty.

This trip with friends was truly memorable. It was a perfect blend of joy, learning, and adventure. I eagerly await our next adventure.

250 Words Essay on My Memorable Trip with Friends

The beginning of the adventure.

Every journey begins with a single step. For me, that step was boarding a train with my friends for a trip that would turn out to be the most memorable one. The excitement was palpable as we embarked on a journey to the majestic mountains of Himachal Pradesh, India.

The Bonding

Traveling with friends is an unparalleled experience. The long train journey filled with laughter, games, and deep conversations brought us closer. The shared experiences, whether it was the thrill of the new or the comfort of the familiar, fostered a bond that was different from anything we had experienced before.

The Exploration

Our destination, Manali, was a paradise nestled in the mountains. We explored the local markets, tasted exotic cuisines, and trekked through the rugged terrains. The breathtaking view from the top of the mountain, under the clear blue sky, was a sight to behold. It was an affirmation of the grandeur and beauty of nature.

Overcoming Challenges

The trip was not without its challenges. Navigating through unknown terrains, dealing with language barriers, and adjusting to new cultural norms put us to the test. However, the shared struggle made the experience even more enriching. It taught us resilience, adaptability, and the importance of teamwork.

In conclusion, the trip was more than just a break from the monotony of college life. It was a journey of self-discovery, bonding, and learning. The memories we created are etched in our hearts, making it a truly unforgettable experience. As Robert Louis Stevenson rightly said, “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend.”

500 Words Essay on My Memorable Trip with Friends

Introduction.

Every journey is a mosaic of memories, but some trips etch an indelible mark on our hearts. A memorable trip with friends can be an unforgettable experience, providing a lifetime of memories to cherish. This essay is a reminiscence of one such trip that I took with my friends during our college years.

The Planning Phase

The journey began even before we hit the road. The planning phase was an adventure in itself. The countless hours we spent researching destinations, booking accommodations, and organizing transport were filled with excitement and anticipation. This phase was a testament to our collective decision-making abilities, negotiation skills, and the art of reaching a consensus, which are invaluable life skills.

The Destination

Our chosen destination was the picturesque town of Manali in the Indian Himalayas. Known for its breathtaking landscapes, serene rivers, and tranquil monasteries, Manali promised a unique blend of adventure and peace. The town’s rich cultural heritage and local cuisine added to the allure.

The Journey

The journey was a thrilling 14-hour road trip. The scenic beauty of the winding roads, the changing landscapes, and the camaraderie in our vehicle made the journey as memorable as the destination itself. The shared laughter, the impromptu singing sessions, and the shared awe of nature’s beauty created a bond that was deeper and stronger than before.

Experiences in Manali

In Manali, we indulged in a variety of activities. We trekked through dense forests, visited ancient temples, and tried local delicacies. The adrenaline rush from river rafting in the icy waters of the Beas river was a highlight of the trip. The peaceful moments spent in the monasteries, absorbing the tranquility and wisdom, were equally memorable.

The Learning

The trip was not just about fun and adventure. It was a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. We learned to navigate unfamiliar terrains, manage our finances, and handle unexpected situations. We discovered our strengths and weaknesses. We learned the importance of teamwork and the value of friendship.

In conclusion, the memorable trip with my friends was a remarkable experience. It was not just a break from our daily routine, but a journey that taught us invaluable lessons and gave us memories to cherish for a lifetime. The laughter, the shared experiences, and the strengthened bonds of friendship made this trip truly unforgettable. This trip was a testament to the fact that it’s not just the destination, but the journey and the company that make a trip memorable.

American democracy is built on hope, opportunity and resilience

Photo by Susan Demas | Michigan Advance

My parents came to America in their early 20s with nothing but one suitcase and $100 in their pocket. Graced with student visas and a goal of pursuing higher education, they wanted a better life in the land of the free.

I’ll never truly understand the fear they must have faced, packing up their lives to move 7,513 miles from their family. I can’t relate to living on a $90 budget each week, sharing a tiny house with a local family who generously agreed to rent them a room at a discounted price. I can’t imagine eating pork parts that a nearby restaurant gave to them for free for a whole two years.

This essay from an Arizona high school student was the winning entry in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ 2023-24 Voice of Democracy contest and is republished here with permission.

Yet looking back, my mother has never characterized her American experience as one of hardship. She has always said, “Every day was filled with hope — a hope that was enough to wake us up every morning.” That same hope is what fueled my father as he earned his Ph.D, despite broken English and a limited vocabulary.

It took them 11 years from the day they landed in this country to finally become official US. citizens.

I asked my mother why she kept persevering in hopes of one day becoming an American citizen. She said: “Because to be a citizen is to be a part of democracy,” America’s democracy where dreams and visions gracefully advance through ballots-cast and voices heard.

GET THE MORNING HEADLINES DELIVERED TO YOUR INBOX

She remembers the excitement of flying for the first time, passport in hand, to the land of freedom. She remembers the day of her naturalization marked with nebulous joy and bittersweet victory. She remembers proudly parading her “I voted” sticker after her first time voting, because America welcomed her to its democracy and she had a say. A say in a country she couldn’t originally call home, but now can. A say in their newfound responsibility to help steer the ship of democracy they’d chosen. She remembers signing the contract to our first American house with tears in her eyes, a small two-bedroom, one-bathroom building, the house she was able to call home.

My parents’ journey is a testament to the ideals that underpin our democracy. It‘s a place where every person, irrespective of their origin, has the chance to rewrite their own story.

This opportunity, liberty, equality, and responsibility are what drive individuals to sacrifice their lives to protect. In my quest to delve deeper into the greatest attributes of our democracy, I have also embarked on a mission to explore democracy from the perspective of those who’ve defended it.

Through the Veterans Heritage Project, I had the honor of interviewing a lOO-year-old Jewish Navy veteran, Dolly. Despite our 84-year age gap, we bonded over the traits that make us both American. Dolly was only 20 when she first enlisted. As one of the first cohorts of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II, she was transported to New York, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C., for rigorous Naval assignments.

Dolly’s enlistment was initially inspired by her father, a World War I Navy veteran, and even though her Jewish family painfully experienced American antisemitism post-World War I, she joined 550,000 other American Jews without any hesitation, to fight for justice, human rights and equality.

That is the pride of American democracy — a pride to resist aggression and terminate discrimination. She described an era when democracy was threatened, and young Americans like her rallied to preserve it. Dolly underscored that democracy is not just about casting votes; it’s about fighting, both physically and literally, for a set of ideals that make life worth living — freedom, justice, and the pursuit of happiness.

People like my parents, the hardest workers I know who will give anything to ensure I have what I need to live out my “American Dream,” people like Dolly, a 100-year-old whose age provides no barrier to her relentless passion for our country, and people like me, a 16-year-old who constantly seeks to understand our nation’s past and present, in hopes of changing our future, make up our democracy.

My parents’ gratitude to those who uplifted them and Dolly’s lifelong dedication to our country motivate me to be an active participant in our democracy.

The greatest attributes of our democracy lie in the stories of individuals who strive for a better future, the principles of justice that uphold our society, and the strength that diversity brings to our nation. A beacon of hope, a promise of opportunity, and a symbol of resilience: These are the attributes that make up our democracy.

Robert Downey Jr. And Avengers Cast Roast Chris Hemsworth As Receives Star On Walk Of Fame; 'Second Best Chris'

Fengyen Chiu

Chris Hemsworth just scored a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and his Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr. made sure the ceremony was a memorable one, blending heartfelt praise with a dose of classic Downey humor. Downey orchestrated a public roast, roping in fellow Marvel stars to sum up everyone's favorite Norse god in just three words, leaving the crowd in stitches.

Downey kicked things off by asking, "What is Chris Hemsworth?" Jeremy Renner shot back with, "Absurdly, annoyingly amazing." Mark Ruffalo played on their famous movie line with "Friend from work." Scarlett Johansson cut to the chase with, "Sensitive leading lady," while Captain America himself, Chris Evans, cheekily dubbed Hemsworth the "Second best Chris." Downey wrapped it up perfectly, saying, "There is no one who deserves it more. He is 'Hollywood star recipient.'"

Shifting from humor to sincerity, Downey praised Hemsworth as one of the most remarkable individuals he knows. The star unveiling happened just a day before the release of Hemsworth's latest venture, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Downey couldn't contain his excitement for the film, predicting, “This is going to be the film of 2024.”

“I wrote all of my comments myself, which is why they are going to be quite insightful and brilliant,” Downey quipped. He continued, “Beyond the cape and the hammer is a contagious Aussie charm. You are a remarkable human being. You are a legend. Chris is a bit daunting to describe. He’s very elusive because of the pretty packaging. However, upon further inspection…down under…he has a true wit and depth of soul and it has been my sincere pleasure to know you. You keep us Hollywood folk on our toes because you’re just the real deal.”

In an interview with Variety, Hemsworth shared a humorous anecdote about his journey to the Walk of Fame. He recalled thinking he was receiving this honor back in 2019 when the cast of Avengers: Endgame was invited to leave their handprints in cement outside the iconic TCL Chinese Theater.

“I thought that was the Walk of Fame! So when we did it, I thought, ‘Oh cool, I’m getting a star.’” Hemsworth admitted. “And someone told me, ‘No, that’s not what this is.’ I went along with it like I completely knew what was happening. It was kind of afterwards, I was like, ‘So, where’s the star?’”
