Essay on Picnic

Essay on Picnic: We all go through various levels of stress, so as to seek departure from all our daily life issues. We often plan a day out with our friends and family. One of the best ways to relieve our stress is to go on a picnic. Picnics are usually enjoyed by both children and adults. Going out on a picnic acts as a remedy to our stress and helps us come back with a lot of freshness and rejuvenation.

In this blog, we have provided an essay on picnic in 200, 300 and 400 words. This will help all the students to write on this topic. Read more to get a fair idea as to how you can write on it.

Essay on Picnic in 200 Words

A picnic, an old custom, provides the ideal diversion from the pressures of modern life. It’s a day of simplicity, joy, and connectedness to loved ones and the natural world.

Families and friends assemble in parks, on the shores of lakes while the sun warmly illuminates the surroundings. They spread out blankets decorated with an abundance of homemade treats. The hungry will find sandwiches, seasonal fruits, and refreshing lemonade. A dinner becomes a memorable feast when it is simply shared outside. This simple act of doing so increases the food’s flavour.

The natural melody of birds and rustling leaves is delightfully complemented by conversation and laughter. While kids discover the outdoor attractions, soccer balls and frisbees may fly. The day is for playing games, unwinding, and admiring the scenery.

Picnics promote quality time spent with loved ones and strengthen ties. They provide a break from screens, emails, and due dates while bringing back memories of simpler pleasures in life. Picnics produce priceless memories, whether they are enjoyed by the tranquil sound of a lake or in the shadow of a large oak tree.

In those moments, the world feels beautifully uncomplicated, and our souls find solace in the embrace of nature. Picnics are more than just meals outdoors; they are a celebration of life, love, and the enduring human need for connection and relaxation.

Essay on Picnic in 300 Words

Picnics are enjoyable outings that enrich and calm our lives. Last summer, when my family and I made the decision to get away from the rush and bustle of city life and spend the day in the middle of nature, I had one such unforgettable picnic.

We settled on a gorgeous location next to a calm lake surrounded by luxuriant green foliage. A pleasant symphony was produced by the rustling of the leaves as the early sun touched the water and placed a golden hue on it.

The day was jam-packed with entertainment. I was playing catch with my younger sister as my parents had a leisurely stroll around the lake. My mother made those sandwiches with such care, and they were just unmatched in flavour.

We decided to continue our exploration of the area after lunch. In the midst of the tranquil beauty of the lake, we rented a rowboat and set out on the water. Fish were darting beneath the surface in the glisteningly bright water. Even my father gave fishing a shot, but we only managed to reel in a few little fish.

We gathered along the lake’s side as the day dragged on to watch the sunset. The horizon was painted with hues of orange, pink, and purple as the sky changed into a canvas of warm colours. We were all in amazement at the sight, which served as a reminder of nature’s utter beauty.

We started a bonfire and told tales around it as darkness began to fall over the scene. The roaring fire and the shooting stars above gave the night a magical touch.

We reluctantly packed our things and said goodbye to our wonderful location. That picnic’s memories will live on in my heart always. It served as a reminder that, despite our hectic schedules, these are the times we actually value.

Essay on Picnic in 400 Words

A picnic is a lovely outdoor activity that enables individuals to escape from the bustle of daily life, spend quality time with loved ones, and connect with nature. The core of a picnic is found in the straightforward joys it provides, whether the excursion is a last-minute adventure or a carefully planned outing.

Selecting the ideal venue is the first step in picnic planning. Numerous elements, including closeness, the beauty of the surrounding area, and the activities on offer, may have an impact on this choice.

The menu is the most important consideration after the location is chosen. Delicious food is synonymous with picnics, and a thoughtfully planned spread may increase everyone’s enjoyment. Popular options include cold sandwiches, fruit, chips, salads, and homemade desserts. To guarantee that everyone’s taste buds are satiated, pack a variety of dishes.

The menu comes second in importance after the choice of site. Delicious food is a picnic staple, and a well-planned spread may increase everyone’s enjoyment. Fresh fruit, chips, salads, cold sandwiches, and handmade sweets are all common options. Everyone’s taste buds will be satiated if a variety of dishes are packed.

Excitation is in the air as the gang gathers on the day of the picnic. Gathered with smiles, baskets, and blankets, friends and family are prepared to enjoy the embrace of nature. Everyone contributes in order to create the ideal setting for relaxation as they work together to set up a cosy picnic area.

The menu comes next in importance once the venue has been selected. A thoughtfully planned spread can improve the entire enjoyment of a picnic, which is linked with good food. Popular options include cold sandwiches, fruits straight from the garden, chips, salads, and homemade desserts.

The picnickers are filled with satisfaction as the day comes to an end and the sun starts to set. It’s time to tidy up, store the leftovers from the feast, and leave the area as spotless as you found it. This commitment to the environment assures that picnickers in the future can take in the same unspoiled splendour.

In conclusion, a picnic is more than just a lunch outside; it’s a rejuvenating event for both body and spirit. It’s time to unplug from technology and re-establish relationships with friends, family, and the environment.

An essay on the topic ‘picnic’ for classes 1, 2 and 3 is a great way to teach them the basics of essay writing. To write an essay on picnic in English, children need to understand the main message that needs to be highlighted. Picnics are a great and fun way to engage with friends and family. Children must know that when writing an essay on a picnic, they need to highlight how it helps them stay connected with their loved ones. Read below to learn about educating children on some key points to remember when writing an essay on picnic and some sample essays that would be a good guide.

When teaching kids how to write a paragraph on a picnic, there are points that they need to remember. The lower primary classes have to focus on how the key message is conveyed. Below are a few key points to remember:

  • An introduction to the topic – picnic.
  • The essay’s main body should speak about the details.
  • The essay should also speak about how a picnic makes a difference.
  • A conclusion that emphasises that the purpose was achieved.
  • Adequate examples must be provided.

Picnics are a great way to engage with family and friends. Spending quality time with people close to us is a great idea. It is an ideal solution to bond when one does not have the time to go for a long trip or a holiday. Easier to plan and affordable, picnics can be a great way to kill boredom and monotony.

When going on a picnic, it is vital to take necessary precautions. It is mandatory to be aware of the venue and its hazards. Thorough research about the place needs to be done and surveyed before planning. One should also check on the amenities and safety procedures there.

There are many ways for kids to enjoy a picnic with their family. There are many ways to have fun, from outdoor games like lemon and spoon race, football, etc., to indoor games like Bingo, Scrabble, and Monopoly. Singing sessions and impromptu dance duos could also be a good idea.

Kids in classes 1 and 2 often go on a picnic from school, which is a good topic to get them to write creatively. Below is a template for an essay for classes 1 and 2 on school picnic:

  • My class went for a picnic to a flower garden last week.
  • The students of standard 1 went for a picnic with the class teachers.
  • We sang songs during the journey.
  • We ate snacks on the bus.
  • We reached the flower garden, and our teachers took us inside.
  • We toured the garden and saw some beautiful flowers.
  • When it was lunchtime, we laid our mats on the ground and had our lunch.
  • Our teachers made us play games like hide and seek and relay races.
  • We started the journey back to school in the evening.
  • I enjoyed my day with my friends and teachers in the flower garden.

Family picnics are a great time for bonding and spending quality time with our close ones. Here’s a template to help kids write the essay for classes 1 and 2.

  • My family and I went on a picnic to a museum yesterday.
  • My father, mother, brother and I went together, as we wanted to visit a museum.
  • My mother had made a picnic basket with food, snacks and drinks for us to eat at a scenic spot.
  • My brother and I took our football to play together, as the museum also had a garden.
  • Once we reached the museum, we walked around the area.
  • After touring the museum, we went to the garden and lay down our mats.
  • We then ate the delicious food that my mother had packed.
  • Once we finished lunch, my brother and I played football for some time.
  • My mother, father, brother, and I played a few board games.
  • We came back in the evening. We enjoyed our day and decided to go on more such picnics.

Children in the lower primary classes will be expected to write a short paragraph on a picnic for the essay section. An example of a short essay on picnics below could be used as a guide:

Our school organised a picnic for us on Children’s Day. We went to a water park that was full of rides and greenery. We travelled with our friends and teachers. On reaching the water park, we were served hot tomato soup as it was the winter season. We then changed into our swimming dresses to go on the rides. Our teachers joined us too. We spent our time on the rides until lunchtime. We were served hot pizzas, french fries, and juice for lunch. Before we left, we were given a small token from the resort, and we took a group photo together. The picnic was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed spending time with our friends and teachers.

Writing a family essay could be an easy task for kids. But an essay on a picnic with family could be a little difficult. The example below could be a start for writing an essay about a picnic with family:

My family decided to go on a picnic over the long weekend. The farmhouse near the city’s outskirts was chosen as the venue. My mother, father, sister, and I drove to the farmhouse early in the morning with my uncle, aunt and their son. We reached there at 10 in the morning. The farmhouse had a pool, garden and an entertainment room. We spent some time swimming in the pool and then played a few games of cricket in the garden. We then took a short break for some refreshments. We went back to playing football in the garden and played until lunch. For lunch, we ordered a meal from the restaurant next door. We enjoyed the delicious lunch and then went to the entertainment room to relax. We watched a movie and then went to the nearby café for snacks in the evening. After a cup of coffee, we took photos together as a family for memories. We then started back home and reached by evening. It was a memorable day for all of us.

Children in class 3 can articulate better and have more knowledge. However, an essay template could really help them. Below is a picnic essay for class 3 that could help them spark their creativity:

I once went on a picnic at a resort with my school. We took a bus to the resort and, on the way, sang songs along with the teachers. After we reached the resort, we played in the garden and spent time on the rides. We spent time on the rides until lunchtime, and then our teachers took us to the dining hall for lunch. The lunch was delicious, with large portions of dishes. After we finished our lunch, our teachers gathered us in the garden, and we played some games like hopscotch, egg and spoon race, and more. We enjoyed spending time with our friends and teachers until the evening when it was time to leave. We clicked a few group photos and took the bus back home. It was such a wonderful day spent with my friends.

Another picnic that I love is the one with my family. It was a long weekend, and since we did not want to go on a long holiday, we decided to take a day trip to the beach. My father, mother, brother, and I set off early to the beach as the weather was hot and sunny. My mother packed some snacks and drinks to eat on the way. My father decided to drive, and we listened to music as we travelled to the beach. When we reached the beach, we immediately headed to the water and spent time swimming! After a few hours, we tucked into the refreshments that my mother had packed. We then drove back home, and I thoroughly enjoyed my day with my family.

By writing on this topic, a child learns to articulate their thoughts about spending quality time with people. Writing on this topic can be developed by getting children to organise their thoughts.

Essay writing is a vital skill for children to learn right from the primary classes. Reading and writing will help children develop these skills. The above templates will help children know how to structure their essays on a topic like a picnic.

100 Words Essay on My School Picnic

Introduction.

My school picnic was a memorable day in my life. It was a day of fun, laughter, and joy. We went to a beautiful park.

The Journey

We started early in the morning. The bus ride was filled with excitement. We sang songs and shared jokes.

At the park, we played games, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and explored nature. The teachers also joined in the fun.

The day ended with a campfire. We all returned home tired but happy. It was a day I will always remember.

250 Words Essay on My School Picnic

School picnics are an integral part of student life, serving as a break from the monotony of routine, fostering camaraderie, and creating lifelong memories. As a college student, my recent school picnic was a delightful experience that I would like to share.

Planning and Anticipation

The anticipation of the picnic began weeks before the actual day. Our class collectively decided on a local nature park as our destination. We planned activities, food, and transportation, each detail adding to the growing excitement.

The Day of the Picnic

On the day of the picnic, we set off early, filled with joy and anticipation. The journey was lively, with songs, laughter, and shared snacks. Upon reaching the park, we were greeted by lush greenery, a serene lake, and the chirping of birds.

Activities and Bonding

The activities we had planned, such as frisbee, football, and a treasure hunt, brought out our competitive spirit, teamwork, and leadership skills. The picnic also served as a platform for bonding with classmates outside the confines of the classroom. We shared meals, stories, and laughter, strengthening our friendships.

Reflection and Conclusion

As the day ended, we returned home tired but filled with joy and unforgettable memories. The picnic was not just a day off from academics but an opportunity for personal growth and bonding. It reminded us that learning extends beyond classrooms and textbooks, and can be found in shared experiences and nature’s classroom.

500 Words Essay on My School Picnic

My school picnic remains one of the most cherished memories of my academic years. It was a blend of thrilling experiences, moments of camaraderie, and a break from the monotonous routine of school life.

The Planning

The anticipation of the school picnic started weeks before the actual day. The school management meticulously planned every detail. We, the students, were involved in the planning process, which was an exercise in responsibility and team-building. We voted for the destination, decided the activities, and even had a say in the food menu. Our destination was a popular local amusement park, a place that promised a day full of fun and excitement.

The journey to the amusement park was as exciting as the destination itself. The air was filled with laughter and animated chatter. The bus ride was a wonderful opportunity to bond with classmates outside the formal setting of the classrooms. We shared snacks, played games, sang songs, and the camaraderie was palpable.

The Amusement Park

Upon reaching the amusement park, we were greeted by a sprawling landscape of rides, games, and food stalls. The adrenaline rush from the roller coaster rides, the joy of winning at the game stalls, and the shared thrill of exploring the park together created a sense of unity among us. It was a practical demonstration of the phrase “experiences are best enjoyed when shared”.

The Lunch Break

The lunch break was another highlight of the day. We sat in the shade of large trees, sharing food and laughter. The simple act of eating together fostered a sense of community and belonging. It was a refreshing break from the regular school lunch hour where we would hurriedly eat our food amidst the rush of school bells.

Learning and Reflection

Beyond the fun and frolic, the school picnic was a learning experience. It taught us the value of teamwork, cooperation, and shared experiences. It was a lesson in empathy as we helped each other overcome fears while trying out daring rides. The picnic also offered a chance to appreciate nature and the outdoors, away from textbooks and classrooms.

As the day drew to a close, we returned home with hearts full of joy and minds filled with unforgettable memories. The school picnic was not just a day off from school, but a day that added a new dimension to our learning experience. It was a testament to the fact that learning is not confined to the four walls of a classroom. These experiences, outside the academic realm, are an integral part of our personal and social development. They help us grow into well-rounded individuals, ready to face the world beyond school.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Read Family Picnic Essay on Vedantu

A picnic is a kind of excursion that is arranged with friends and families in the scenic outdoors. Everyone gets together in a place, ideally a park or resort with a lot of open space, and cook meals and eat lunch together, play games, and spend a whole day making merry and memories. In tropical countries like India, families generally plan exciting picnics during winter holidays because, during that time, the weather remains largely pleasant. These picnics though apparently mere get-togethers have immense significance in our life. They allow us to take a break from our busy routine and spend time with our family which is very important for our mental and emotional well-being. In this essay, I shall talk about a family picnic that was probably one of the best days of my life.

Picnic Day With My Family

Last spring our whole family decided to go to a nearby park for a fun outing and a picnic at the same time. The day before the picnic we could no longer hold our excitement. We spent the entire day planning what we will do and what we will eat. Thinking about all the fun we were going to have made my heart flutter.

The next day after packing our things we left our home at 8 am. The picnic spot was about 2 hours away from our home. We had packed delicious food prepared by my mother. On our way to the picnic spot, we played “antakshari” in the car. I could not wait to reach the spot.

Fun At The Picnic Spot

Finally at 10.30 am we reached the picnic spot. It was a beautiful land on the banks of a river. There was a large area of a green field with a lot of bushes and trees scattered here and there. The river and sky met at the horizon. There was a continuous flow of cool breeze blowing from the river to the banks. It was a mesmerizing sight to behold.

Me and my siblings, we started playing games with the adults including my mother, father, uncle and aunt. We played gully cricket and hide and seek. Soon the adults became tired so me and my siblings, we started racing across the fields.

Finally, we were too tired to play anymore. This was the time for the most amazing part of the picnic, the food. We had brought tasty home-cooked meals from our homes. We unpacked our food and divided it among ourselves. After so many activities my hunger had increased. The food tasted tastier than usual, maybe it was because of the company of the whole family, or maybe it was because I was very hungry. After completing our lunch all of us went for a boat ride. It was my first time riding a boat. At first, I was scared but then slowly I overcame my fear and started enjoying the ride. Then around 5.00 pm, we left for home.

The memories I gathered at the family picnic are some moments I will cherish all through my life. The picnic not only provided a break from the everyday mundane life but also made me happy and allowed me to spend some quality time with my family. I hope we can plan more picnics in the future.

Picnics are a great way to spend time with our loved ones. We have the opportunity to spend meaningful time with them. What can children say about picnics with their families that they enjoy? We have provided an essay about Picnic with Family for Class 1 students to aid them.

A close-knit family is the source of strength for each family member. A family's members are unselfish in their care for one another. They make a person's accomplishments and difficulties smaller by being together through good and bad times. Picnics are a great way to stay connected and close to your friends and family.

With Family Picnic

Our family had a fantastic lunch at a neighbouring water park last summer. The adrenaline rush began flowing within us the day we spoke for the first time about going on a picnic. While preparing for the picnic, the family's pleasure was at an all-time high. This outdoor trip piqued everyone's interest. The day has finally arrived. We all got out of the house and were on our way to the picnic in no time. The car was buzzing with conversation. Everyone in the family was looking forward to the family picnic. We were all in a completely different state.

We usually visit the zoo, gardens, or farms, all of which are a short distance from our home.

My mother and grandmother make delectable meals and refreshments for the picnic.

My brother gathers all of the necessary equipment for sports such as football and cricket.

My father buys chocolates, sweets, and other snacks for the entire family from the shop.

My brother and I participate in sports such as badminton, cricket, and football.

We all play antakshari, hide-and-seek, dodgeball, and other games before sharing lunch. With a lot of laughter, chatter, and enjoyment, the day flies by.

Essay on School Picnic

On the day of the school picnic, we all arrived at school on time. After attending the school prayer, I walked near the school bus. Then, under the guidance of two teachers, we went to an amusement park. Students were not restricted to wearing school uniforms. For most of us, it was our first time visiting an amusement park, so it was a great experience. After a few hours of fun, the teachers invited us to lunch. After enjoying lunch with everyone, we went to the pool. All the students and teachers danced together at the end of the picnic.

Amusement parks are always my favorite day picnic destinations. Happily, this year's school picnic was set in the World of Essel. That picnic meant a lot because it was his 10th criterion for us and probably our last year at school together. Next year me and my friends will be on another stream. We were taken by bus to the dock, where we had to board the boat to the theme park. We could hear the yells of those who were having a good time on the ride and sense the excitement coming from the boat. Therefore, we entered the park quickly in order to make the most of it.

We did not go on every ride, but I still remember the butterflies in my stomach when we went on a ride called Thunder, when we were swung from one side to the other. It was thrilling and terrifying when Shot-N-Drop sent us flying, goose bumps when Top-Spin spun us around, stupid laughter when our cars swerved into each other, the joy of finally escaping Alibaba's mirror maze, and the tingling moment when Aqua-Dive splash splashed cold water over us.

Those tingling memories are the ones that we’ll cherish forever—how we exploded into laughter after playing pranks on classmates, the momentary anger of the one who got pranked, and the tired faces at the end of the day, all of which were filled with joy and laughter. The memories of that day will always keep a cozy corner in my heart.

Rules of School Picnic

School Picnics provide students with a great experience and an excellent opportunity to face a variety of challenges that can contribute significantly to their personal growth. Therefore, students must participate in the picnic as it provides a comprehensive education.

• Students will have a full-day picnic with their teacher in a scenic setting.

• Picnics are held once a school year.

• Picnic is heavily subsidized and included in tuition.

• Students are required to bring healthy snacks and drinking water.

• Principals have the discretion to cancel picnics at the last minute for safety and other reasons.

School Picnics and Excursions

The dates for Excursions and Camps are determined by the administration at the beginning of each school year. All excursions and camps are an integral part of our teaching and learning programme. These activities are designed to provide students with stimulating, hands-on, and relevant experiences to enhance their learning and important social experiences.

• The school considers these excursions and camps to be of great value and value to the overall development of the students. Students ages 10 and older are required to participate in these activities, but participation in field trips is purely voluntary.

• These trips are subsidized and a small fee is charged for transportation, lodging, meals and general expenses.

• Excursions and camps include accommodation. Parents are therefore encouraged to complete the consent form issued by the school and provide the contact number of the teacher concerned.

My School Picnic

Yesterday, my school organized a picnic at the local zoo and it was an unforgettable experience for all of us. The weather was perfect, with clear skies and a gentle breeze blowing. As soon as we arrived at the zoo, we were greeted by a friendly zookeeper who gave us a tour and showed us some of the most interesting animals.

We started our tour with the primates and were amazed by the intelligence and playful nature of the monkeys and apes. Next, we visited the big cats and got to see lions, tigers, and leopards in their natural habitats. The majestic animals were a sight to behold and everyone was in awe of their beauty and grace.

After that, we went to the bird exhibit and were entertained by the colorful and vibrant birds. The zookeeper also gave us a bird-feeding demonstration, which was a unique and memorable experience.

We then moved on to the aquarium and got to see a variety of exotic fish and sea creatures. The highlight of this section was getting to see the penguins and their playful antics.

Overall, the school picnic to the zoo was a great success. Not only did we get to learn about different animals and their habitats, but we also had a lot of fun and made memories that will last a lifetime. I would highly recommend a visit to the zoo for anyone looking for an educational and entertaining day out.

Now that I am a teacher, I get to see the other side of school picnics. I get to help plan them and make sure they are successful. I also get to see the joy on the kids’ faces when they are enjoying themselves.

School picnics are a great way for students to bond with each other and with their teachers. They are a time to relax and have fun. And, they are a great opportunity for teachers to get to know their students better.

Preparations for the Picnic

Before the picnic, we had to do some preparations. We had to collect wood for the bonfire, set up the tents, and prepare the food. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.

On the day of the picnic, we woke up early and started setting up everything. We made sure that the fire was lit and that the food was ready. Then, we went on a hike to explore the area around us.

When we got back, we were exhausted but happy. We sat around the fire and talked, ate, and laughed until it was time to go home. It was a perfect day and I’ll never forget it.

Journey to the Picnic Spot

It was a hot, sunny day when our school went on a picnic to the nearby park. The park was very big and there were lots of trees and flowers. We had brought our own food and drinks so we didn’t have to buy anything. We played games and ran around for a while before we sat down to eat. After lunch, we went on a nature walk and saw some birds and squirrels. Then we went back to the bus and came home. It was a really fun day!

Fun Activities at the Picnic

One of the best things about picnics is that there are so many fun activities that can be enjoyed. Here are some great ideas for activities to make your next picnic even more enjoyable:

When the bus arrived, we all climbed aboard and found our seats. We were so excited! We knew we were going to have a great time.

Finally, we arrived at the park. We got off the bus and walked to the picnic area. There was a big table with food on it, and games set up nearby. We sat down and started to eat.

After a while, it was time for the awards ceremony. Our teacher handed out prizes for things like “Most Improved Student” and “Best Attendance Record”. Then she took a group photo of us all together.

A Descriptive Essay on Picnics, 500 Words

By: Haque , For class 9-12, 05-03-’22

1. A pleasant diversion. 2. Kinds of picnics; (a) family party; (b) a party of friends. 3. Stages (a) planning; (b) arrangements; (c) the picnic itself – our participation; (d) the return journey. 4. What makes a picnic so enjoyable. 5. Personal experience.

Picnics are a pleasant diversion. They break the monotony of life and add a touch of variety. They may be said to touch the prosaic life with the charm of poetry. Springs of joy well up, free from the burden of duties and responsibilities. Hence they are often a refreshing tonic.

Picnics are of various kinds. One may have a picnic with one’s family. This is an escape from the dreariness of domesticity. It is likely to be the pleasantest. As the relationship between parents and children and between siblings also often becomes formal and lifeless. An outing in the open air, away from the well-marked convenience that is so necessary to make existence smooth, is in the nature of a pleasant surprise. It lifts us out of our habitual routine; it brings out the very best in each of us. In Satyajit Roy’s ‘Sakha-Prosakha’ there is such a catchy family picnic scene.

Another kind of picnic is with friends. This is far more common with us. Students of schools and colleges as well as members of clubs and institutions often organize these outlines like picnics. It must be fun for a group of friends to go out together and enjoy some kind of novelty.

A picnic has four stages. The first stage is planning. The selection of the spot, of the party, and of the nature of the outing give ample scope for discussion and makes things lively. The joy of a picnic often lies in the discovery that something has been left behind, something has been mistaken and the plan was not fool-proof. But things are taken lightly, in a good-humored spirit.

Next, come preparations. One must arrange conveyances, collect utensils and eatables. Usually, there is a division of labor and responsibility. Some bring one thing other bring something else. It is a lesson in acquiring organizational skills. The leader has to see if everything is OK.

Then we have the picnic itself. Going around with mismanagement is not a picnic. If there is a mistake or a misadventure it has to be met with humor and laughter.

My experience of such a picnic is pleasantly memorable. There were ladies with us to supervise the cooking. But they stood aloof to enjoy the day, on the plea that the Dhenki (a wooden husking device) should not husk even when in heaven. So we merrily ate the underboiled rice and charred fries. We played cards, carom, and sang to our heart’s content, amidst punctuated gossip.

Finally, there is the return journey. Things have to be packed up carefully. FOn the way back there is a lot to talk about, a lot to think about and remember.

A picnic is not for those who want everything to be as tidy and orderly as home. People go on picnics for the new environment and adventure out of the monotony of daily life. So, only those who are able to easily adapt to the discomfort and minor errors really enjoy the picnic.

Essay on A Picnic I Enjoyed, 450 Words

By: Haque , For class 9-10/SSC, 05-03-’22

Introduction: I have had many picnics in my life. Almost all of them were very enjoyable. Among them, one is very favorite to me.

Preparations for the Picnic: The picnic took place when I was a student at the University of Chittagong. The classes of our third semester BBA course had just started. The teachers and students were feeling the need for rejuvenation. For achieving that goal, it was decided that there could be nothing better than a picnic party. Bandarban was selected as the place of the picnic. At first, a committee was formed with participation from students and teachers for collecting contributions and making all necessary arrangements for the picnic. The committee collected contributions from every one of the classes. Two big chair coaches were hired and other preparations were finished in time.

Description of the Picnic: On the appointed day we gathered at the university campus early in the morning. There was a festive environment. Everyone was in a jolly mood. All of us got on the chair coaches. All necessary goods and food items were also taken on the buses. We took with us rice, ghee, meat, fish, sauce, jam, fruits, spices, bread and other necessary things for cooking. There were also necessary pots, plates, kerosene stoves, spoons, and forks. As soon as all the students reached, we started our journey. It was about 8 AM. We had a microphone and loudspeaker with us. The members of our picnic party were made to perform one after another. Some recited poems, some sang songs, some cracked jokes, some played music, and some gave speeches. We had fifteen honorable teachers with us. They also participated in the performances. Every performance invoked much applause. Some of the performers received standing ovations. We had breakfast on the coaches at about 9 AM with bread, apple, banana, boiled egg, and tea. At about 11 in the morning, we reached Bandarban. We selected Meghla Tourist Spot as the place for our picnic. We all got down and arranged our materials for cooking. We had some expert cooks with us. They took the charge of cooking. The others helped them. Meghla was a very beautiful place. It had a beautiful lake, hills, and a hanging bridge. We were enjoying the natural beauties very much. We had a meal at about 2 PM. Then all of us set out to visit Bandarban city. We went to Shaila Propat, Balaghata Buddhist Temple, the king’s house, and other places of Bandarban. After the sunset, we started our return journey.

Conclusion: It was a very enjoyable event in my life. The memory of the picnic will remain ever fresh in my mind.

Picnic Paragraph and Essay

A Short Essay on the Experience of A Picnic

In 200 words, for class 9-10/SSC

It was spring. I decided to have a picnic in the countryside with my friends. I felt that it would help us to forget the monotony of city life and refresh our minds. So, on a holiday we go out on a picnic.

As soon as we reach our destination village , we start walking on the green fields, meadows and river banks. We take deep breaths to fill our lungs with clean and fresh air .

The name of the village was Ratanpur. Nature surrounded by trees makes us happy. The green fields under the blue sky and the beautiful view of the calm river overwhelm us. The sun spreads its golden rays across the meadows and rivers. We enjoy the chirping of birds in the trees. Butterflies fly from one flower to another. We see these scenes and feel cheerful.

When we feel tired and hungry while walking, we rest under a big tree. We dig holes in the ground to make ovens and cook by burning dried stalks. Traveling and eating in a secluded place inside a forest gives us a different feeling. Occasional picnics are a great idea to get rid of the boredom of repetitive living.

A Short Essay on the Experience of a Picnic

In 150 words, For class 5-6

A picnic is very enjoyable for all. It refers to go to a far place, eat some special food there, and enjoy a lot. There are many picnic spots in our country where people go for a picnic and enjoy themselves. In our textbook, we find that Laila and her father had a picnic in the hills. One morning Laila and her father started for her uncle’s house up in the hills. They packed their bag and took some food and drinking water with them. They crossed the river and walked up into the hills. There were many tall trees there. Every hour they stopped and drank some water. Then they stopped by a small river and ate their chicken biryani and cakes. It was a very enjoyable picnic for Laila. After the picnic, they took a rest and went to her uncle’s house. They were fascinated by the beauty of the hills and the river.

December 25, 2017 by Study Mentor 2 Comments

Each one of us, enjoy going for an outing with our family and friends. It might be a movie, an amusements park or a zoo. Picnic doesn’t only bring us close but we all get to know each other in a better way.

Table of Contents

My first picnic

I was 12 when I went for my first picnic with my friends, organized by our school. I still remember it was an early Sunday morning and my father dropped me to the school for the trip. We were supposed to be taken to a zoo and a dairy factory, where we enjoyed ourselves very much.

Just a day before my picnic I bought so many eatables and food items to enjoy during my picnic. We reached the school and I bid a bye to my dad and then he left.

We entered the bus, as it was my first journey by bus so, I was a little nervous but since my friends were with me so I regained my confidence and the journey began.

The destination was quite far from our school. So to make the journey entertaining we played games in the bus, we sang songs, laughing, chatting, singing and had some snacks.  I saw so many beautiful scenes during the journey, outside of the pacing bus.

When we reached the destination

It was a bright morning and the birds were chirping in joy.  When we entered inside the zoo, there was a small beautiful lake at the entrance. The water was quite cool.

When I went close, I saw so many different breeds of fishes, and turtles. Next to the lake we saw the peacock cage where the bird had spread its mesmerizing feathers and was dancing in joy. The whole scene was like a beautiful dream.

We took photographs and then we moved ahead to explore more about that place.

Exploring the place

Picnic essay

At first I saw my favourite animal ‘ tiger ’ and it looked so fierce and dangerous that I just got afraid and ran away from its cage. We heard the lion roaring shut in the cage.

Then I saw the cage of deer, they all were playing with each other and it was a pleasant scene. Then we enjoyed boating . We saw many different faunas like crocodile, snakes frogs and did some fishing.

We then further explored the different creatures of the zoo.  I took so many photographs with my teachers and friends. We were in high spirits; we just ran around and climbed the trees, shouting in joy.

After exploring the zoo we all were just starving from hunger so we all gathered at a place and had our tasty lunch that we all carried from our home.

I remember after finishing my own lunch, I ate one of my friend’s lunches too and then we started playing games.

My friend carried badminton rackets with him and both of us played a match and I remember losing the match to him and we played hide and seek too. After a short game we all were taken to a toy train in the zoo.

We all sat on the   train and we explored all the parts of the zoo that we were not able to see earlier. We really enjoyed ourselves and gathered so many sweet memories.

Then, we packed our stuffs and we were ready to go to the other part of our picnic that was the dairy.  I was not very much excited to visit the dairy, as I thought it would be a boring place and there would be nothing to do like any fun sort of thing.

When we reached our next Destination

When we reached the dairy we all stood up at the entrance in a queue. Then we moved in together silently.

When we entered we saw a big ice cream and milk parlour and a factory where the products were manufactured. As we were the visitors so we got an ice cream and a milkshake for free and we really enjoyed it.  Then we moved inside where the processing of products was being done.

The purpose of this visit was to help the students to gain some external knowledge that may help them in future. As we moved inside, the manager greeted us and took us for a short factory tour.

We got ideas of how the processing was done of the raw products, how the packaging was done and what all were the requirements to successfully deliver the product to the market.  Then we visited the garden area of the factory where the cattle and its feed were kept.

It was an eye’s dropping moment as everything was so well organized right from the entrance to the factory and obviously the cattle’s as well.

The manager explained to us that how he managed the entire factory and this trip proved to be really beneficial for us , as we gained so much of knowledge , learned how to be in discipline , to keep unity among ourselves  and most of all the  importance of hard work in our life to achieve success.

Then finally the time came when we had to leave and we all collected our stuffs, bid a goodbye to the manager and left for our bus.

Short Essay on a Picnic with Family – Essay 1 (200 words)

Introduction

In order to escape from the hustle and bustle of the routine life, a retreat is a must. What can be more enjoyable than a picnic time with family with whom we do not get to spend enough time? A picnic not only freshens up the mind, but also helps us to explore new places and enjoy food with our family.

The Picnic – How It Was

We chose the community park of our locality that is situated right beside the limpid brook. The park had a children’s play area where the kids of our family played on slides, swings and other play equipments.

We carried our lunch to the park and decided to have it at the separate picnic area, which we had reserved for that day. After lunch, we sat near the brook, fed the ducks and squirrels and took a walk along the trail. The sunset seen above the brook during twilight was magical and we returned before it was dark.

It was a day well spent with all the members of the family and with this we had a great opportunity to breathe in the fresh air. Escaping the daily routine for a day and being in nature’s lap is definitely important in life.

Essay on a Picnic that I Enjoyed with my Family – Essay 2 (300 words)

In the strain of the work load and juggling between multiple chores, having a family picnic was like an alienated topic to me. All I wanted to have was a relaxing getaway with my family at some place off the beaten path where the city commotions will not be deafening and the air will be pure. Finding such a place was not much of a problem as living in countryside comes up with many pristine places which are yet to be explored.

The Long-Awaited Picnic

It was during the weekend of Christmas and we decided to utilize the vacation fully on the outskirts at a nature park. As most people generally gathered at the urban areas to take the full essence of Christmas, the nature park was less crowded and it gave us the opportunity to reserve a campsite to stay overnight and have picnic.

Surrounded by towering Pine grove, the picnic area was serene with only the chirping of the birds penetrating the silence. The murmuring cascade nearby added to the charm of the forest and we made sure to take a dip into the pool formed beneath the waterfall. The hike to the falls was easy for all the members of family and especially my little nephew was overwhelmed.

Appetite soon hit us after taking a refreshing swim and thanks to my mother, we filled our tummies with delicious sandwiches. Meanwhile my brother was busy barbecuing the chicken with his wife and with it, our lunch was sumptuous.

In the evening, we had bonfire at the picnic site and under the starlit sky, the picnic concluded as we entered our respective camps.

Far from the city crowd, a picnic with family was something all of us longed for to explore the other side of life. A small rustic campsite with grille and picnic facility made our time enjoyable and the added bonanza was the refreshing plunge into the pool.

Essay on Outing with My Family – Essay 3 (400 words)

While sunny days are the most convenient for outing, monsoon showers have their own charm and enjoying rain on a family outing has long been on my bucket-list. Being an avid hiker and photographer, the passion for exploring new places run through my genes, just as my father and mother. My sister who lives in another city had come to our place for her vacations and it was a perfect setup to plan an outing which would rejuvenate our mind and let us enjoy the magic of rains to the fullest.

Outing on the Blue Mountains

The Neelakurinji flower that blooms after a cycle of twelve years was the main attraction behind choosing the Blue Mountains or Western Ghats for the family outing. A long drive along the winding paths of Kodaikanal was a treat in itself and all the members of the family enjoyed watching the rain soaked tender green plantation along the road.

The carpet of the purple Neelakurinji along the hill slopes flashed in front of our eyes as we reached the picnic spot. After freshening up at the restroom of the picnic area, we set out to explore the forests passing through which we would reach the slopes of the Neelakurinji flower meadows. Rain had subdued by then and a magical mist emerged from the top of the mountains.

The soil was wet but there was no clogging of water, which made hiking through the grassland easy for us. The number of flowers gradually increased and finally we were standing in a purple flower laden meadow where soil could not be seen beneath.

We spent quality time taking pictures of this rare flower before hiking back to the picnic area. The caretaker of the picnic spot greeted us with fuming coffee sourced from the nearby coffee plantation along with crunchy vegetable chops. The lunch comprised of Fried Rice, Chilly Chicken and fried vegetables which is grown at the farm nearby.

We spent some more hours watching the rain in the mountains while having the fruit custard prepared by the caretaker’s wife. The couple also talked with us regarding his farms and the picnic spot which gets filled with tourists during public holidays. Biding adieu and promising to return someday, we were homebound.

A break from the monotony of life not only infused a sense of tranquility in our mind, but also helped each of us spend quality time with each other, something we do not get scope of in the routine schedules. The Western Ghat outing was a lifetime experience with the Neelakurinjis.

Essay on A Picnic with My Family and Relatives – Essay 4 (500 words)

The series of examinations made my brain tired of long hours of study and I badly needed a time out with my family. As for my family, they too had not been gone for any outing for the past few years and hence, after the last exam, I decided to call up my aged uncle who lives in another city and ask him to come over with his family. It was time for a family picnic where parents and kids could meet for a reunion and spend a day happily.

Deciding the Place

While my little nephew and niece jumped for the waterpark, my cousin called for the city memorial park and the elders wanted to go to the riverside picnic spot. Finally I and my sister-in-law suggested the countryside farm where my cousin could enjoy photography, kids could interact with farm animals and parents could explore the farm. Everyone jumped in unison and I called the farm owner to confirm our picnic visit the day after.

The Journey

Waking up early and getting ready for the picnic outing, we finally set out in our car. The owner had verified our visit that day and also prescribed the route to be taken to reach his farm. My Mother and aunt had packed breakfast for us which were finished in no time. From the well paved city highway, we took the sideway path that led us to the outskirts where the farm is situated. The pasture fields on both sides of the road and the country cottages kept us charmed till we reached the farm.

The Farm and the Picnic

The cheerful old owner was standing in front of the gate to greet us and his friendliness immediately made all of us comfortable. He escorted us to the rustic cottage where the brick fireplace made us feel cozy. We were served homemade cakes and breads before he took us to the petting farm.

My nephew and niece were screaming in joy seeing the large cocks and hens, rabbits, cows, buffalos, ponies and horses roaming about freely. The owner also gave us grains to feed the birds and grass to feed the animals. The best part however was the pony rides, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed.

My uncle and father remained with the kids and animals while my mother and aunt were busy in the barn kitchen preparing the lunch. Meanwhile I, my cousin and sister-in-law accompanied the owner, had a look at his vast farm where he grew sunflowers, grapes, pumpkins, tomatoes, potatoes and radishes.

As it was the harvest time, he let us pick the vegetables and grapes to bring back home as well as use for lunch specials with eggs and meat dishes obtained from the farm only. After having a scrumptious lunch together on the large table, all of us decided to interact with the owner, take a walk around the farm and fondle the animals, before setting out for home with a relaxed and stress free mind.

Although meeting the relatives regularly is not possible, thanks to our tight schedules but a quick plan for picnic brought all of us together to have endless chitchats, have food together and visit a new place together. The day ended with a heavy heart but the memory will remain forever.

Essay on Picnic in the Park with Family – My Best Experience – Essay 5 (600 words)

It was during the scorching summer months of the year and summer vacations were going on. With daily office, school and college, neither my father nor I and my sister could plan for a family picnic. The temperature was increasing day by day and my mother suggested that we all should go for a family picnic at the city waterpark. Nothing could be more refreshing than splashing water for the whole day and relaxing on hammocks under shades of trees.

The Picnic Spot

To avoid the weekend crowds, my father planned the picnic on a weekday. The waterpark had lazy rivers, swimming pools, water slides and splash pads. It also had an amusement center where thrill rides enchanted me. The highlight was a separate picnic area tucked in the garden where mango, banyan, palm and eucalyptus trees provided ample shade. We reserved a poolside cabana and the picnic gazebo overlooking the lazy river right under the shade of the mango tree.

How We Spent the Day

While my mother, my sister and I arranged spare clothes and towels along with some dry food, father finalized the route and picking up time with the car driver. We set out at 8 am and reached the waterpark at 9.30 am. My father took the tickets while I bought the refreshments before entering.

After entering, we put our belongings in the lockers and freshened up at the restroom while my mother made sure we have the stomach-full of breakfast with Bread and Butter, Noodles and Egg Benedicts. Afterwards we decided to check out the play area where kids were riding slides and rocking on swings. Swans were roaming about whom we fed bread crumbs. We then explored the garden area where many annual, perennial and ornamental plants were planted in separate areas. Mother, being an avid gardening enthusiast, was thoroughly delighted to see the rose beds and cactus at the greenhouse.

The temperature was increasing and so we decided to take a dip into the large pool area. Being a weekday, there was not much crowd and we had so much fun splashing water onto each other and jumping at the splash pad area. My parents were a bit hesitant in entering the pool, but we dragged them anyway. As father rented tubes for me and my sister, we decided to take a leisurely float on tubes on the lazy river before having large pepperoni pizzas and fried chicken for lunch from the picnic gazebo.

The main attraction however was the water slides and tunnels which dropped at the main pool. As they were costly, we opted for only one and it was worth it. After some more soaking in the pool, we entered the cabana and change into new clothes. The cold beverages served here, were very refreshing. Next we visited the amusement park to ride the Roller Coaster and Sky Wheel which made our hearts beat faster in delight. I and mother had ice creams while my sister took the candy floss and father took the roasted groundnuts from the concession carousel.

It was late afternoon by then and the sun was not so scorching. As we were tired after so much action, we decided to sit back at the cabana and enjoy watching others in the pools. We were served cold coffee before we started for home at 5 pm.

With a perfect combination of greenery, water slides, pools and amusement rides, our picnic at the city waterpark was full of fun even when the sun beat down upon us mercilessly. The cool water of the pool area was soothing in the sweltering heat and we had the best picnic experience under the mango grove.

This adds a whimsical, natural element. You can decorate with wildflowers picked yourself or have a florist create beautiful floral arrangements.  Place flowers in vases on the picnic blanket or scatter petals around for a romantic touch.

Plush Pillows, Rugs, and Blankets

Comfy seating is key for an enjoyable picnic. Decorate with lots of plush pillows and patterned blankets or quilts for a cozy, bohemian vibe.  You can even set up a low table on an outdoor rug for an elegant picnic dining experience.

Shade Structures

Providing proper shade is crucial for any outdoor picnic. Get creative with shade structures like shade cloths, elaborate umbrellas, or even a small tent.  This protects guests from sun exposure and allows you to customize the look to match your picnic theme.

Balloon Garlands

If your picnic is a celebration of a special event, such as a birthday, a bridal shower or a graduation, balloon garlands add a celebratory aesthetic. They make great photo backdrops.  A balloon garland or banner can match your picnic’s color scheme and theme for an extra festive touch.

Traditional Picnic Items

Incorporate classic picnic items like mason jars, picnic baskets, red and white checkered tablecloths or picnic blankets into your decor for a nostalgic, traditional vibe.

Candles and Lighting

For a romantic evening picnic, use candles (battery-operated for safety) or string lights to create a warm, cozy ambiance. The key is layering different textures like pillows, blankets, and rugs along with natural elements like flowers and greenery to create an inviting, comfortable picnic oasis.

Essay on a Picnic with Family for Students and Children

500+ words essay on a picnic with family.

“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” –George Bernard Shaw.

We, human beings are social animals. This means that we cannot live in isolation, instead, we need to live in groups for our survival. This group can be termed as a society, but the nucleus of the society is family. When some individuals’ who belong to a similar gene pool and share a certain common set of hormones , live together, they are termed as family. The benefits of living with the family are numerous, it provides us support, strength, happiness, courage, feeling of oneness. Let us go through a beautiful real-life experience of rejoicing picnic with the family.

essay on a picnic with family

Picnic with Family

Last summer our family went to a memorable picnic at a nearby water park. The day when we spoke for the first time about going to a picnic, the adrenaline rush has been started flowing within us. The flow of happiness amongst the family was at its peak while preparing for the picnic. Everybody was excited about this outdoor adventure. Finally, the day had arrived. We all left our home and soon were on our way to the picnic.  The car was full of chatters. Every family member was so excited about the picnic with the family. All of us were in a totally different form.

Picnic Spot

Finally, we reached our destination. The moment we reached the ticket window, the kids in the family started jumping with excitement. While we were purchasing the tickets, the kids started getting restless to wait. Then we entered for our awaiting adventure for the picnic with the family. As soon as we entered, the beauty of the place welcomed us with a cool breeze on our faces.

We put on the costumes and entered the pool. The coldness of the water was soothing one. Each splash brought a smile on everyone’s face. Everybody went back to their childhood. The youngest one in the picnic with family was 3.5-year-old, who had entered the pool for the first time. He was the happiest amongst all. After spending a considerate amount of time playing with water, we had to struggle a lot to take kids out from the pool.  What a memorable time it was during a picnic with the family.

Then we started heading towards the food zone. The fun in the pool has led to an empty stomach which was making a lot of funny noise. And the aroma of the delicious food which was coming from the food zone had aced our pace towards it.

The kids in the family started making a list of all the things that they wanted to eat. We ordered everyone’s favorite dish and sat waiting for the food to come. This waiting time was the most torturous one. And finally, our hot and tasty food came. We literally attacked it like the hungry animals. The next 30 minutes was complete silence. Everybody in the picnic with family was busy enjoying their own favorite delicacy. We finished eating and left for home.

Though the picnic with family was over, still it is alive in over memories. All the good time we spent together, a lot of beautiful pictures, will always be with us in our memories. We will soon plan our next picnic with family to rejoice our love, bonding, and happiness together.

Loaded Potato Salad

essay of my picnic

Not everyone loves potato salad (crazy, I know!), but everyone loves loaded baked potatoes, which is exactly why I created this recipe. A bowl of loaded potatoes is the best of both worlds, especially because it has bacon, cheddar and onions in a mouthwatering sour cream dressing. I wanted a quick and easy potato salad that would complement any grilled or smoked meat at any gathering and would get devoured. This one always ends up as an empty bowl, which always speaks for itself!

Swap option: While this recipe does include bacon, simply omit for a vegetarian alternative.

Technique tip: To store, cool completely and refrigerate up to five days in an airtight container.

This Legless “Chair” Is My Solution for Uncomfortable Summer Seating

Image of a person sitting on a ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Seat and another one of the seat by itself, both with a decorative border around them.

By Elissa Sanci

Elissa Sanci is a writer on the discovery team. She has found that clear ice makes carbonated drinks taste better, and citronella candles don’t work.

After a long winter indoors, there’s nothing I want more than to fling myself onto a sunny patch of grass outside and bask in the warmth like a contented cat, relishing in the feel of the earth beneath me. I could easily spend hours lazing in the park, blissfully soaking in the sun with a gentle breeze lifting the hair from my shoulders, a good book in my hand.

But, far too often, I’ve had to cut those excursions short and leave sooner than I would have liked, feeling achy and stiff from sitting cross-legged with my shoulders hunched forward and my back rounded like the inside of a spoon. Mentally, I was always prepared to spend an entire afternoon with my butt planted on my picnic blanket, but physically, I couldn’t hack it—until I started using the ALPS Mountaineering Weekender seat a few years ago.

Lightweight and portable, the Weekender seat provides the back support I needed without taking the fun out of lounging in the grass. Armed with this legless chair, I’m now able to spend hours in the park, soaking in everything I spent the winter dreaming about.

ALPS Mountaineering Weekender

A portable chair.

These packable chairs provide much-needed back support without taking the fun out of lounging in the grass.

Buying Options

The perfect park companion.

An ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Seat, shown held opened by a person's hand.

For the last three years, I’ve used my Weekender seat religiously during the spring and summer months. But before that, I used to bring the Coleman Cooler Quad Chair (a pick in our guide to the best camping chairs ) to the park as a backup. While relaxing in the Coleman chair was more comfortable than sitting hunched over on the ground (and it kept me from packing up early when my joints started to ache), sitting in a chair atop my picnic blanket didn’t have nearly the same charm as laying back in the grass. It also didn’t help that dragging a bulky chair along with me always felt like a hassle. The lightweight Helinox Chair One , one of the lighter, portable camping chairs we recommend, is even easier to tote to the park, but it’s expensive (about $110) and keeps you slightly elevated above your picnic blanket.

The Weekender seat from ALPS Mountaineering turned out to be exactly what I needed: Its structured back support and light cushioning comes without the added height and bulk of a traditional camping chair. It also has two top handles for easy carrying and a spacious mesh pocket that can hold all of the essentials. I no longer need to choose between comfort and the joy of planting my butt on the ground.

A taco-style seat held open by your body

A person sitting on an ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Seat on the grass at a park.

The uncanny, legless design of the Weekender was the sole reason I purchased the portable seat after learning about it from a colleague who used hers throughout the pandemic for socially distanced park hangs. Two thin, padded foam pieces joined by a seam make up the back and the seat. The result is a chair that folds open and closed like a taco; it relies on a series of adjustable straps and the tension of your own body to stay open while you’re sitting in it.

I found that the only way to actually get into the seat is by holding the seat back open as you lower your body down into it. Once settled, you can tighten or loosen the side straps to adjust the seating angle.

The straps make it easy to change positions often and easily. I love that I’m able to tighten the straps to sit up straighter, or loosen them if I want to lean back and lounge—something I’m not able to do in my Coleman camping chair.

The Weekender’s 16-inch foam seat back isn’t as tall as that of a traditional camping chair, with the top of the seat hitting just under my shoulder blades. The chair has just enough structure to provide ample back support, but it’s also not so stiff as to feel uncomfortable. When I sit in it, the soft foam has enough give to mold to my back as I lean against it, much like a soft taco shell wraps around its contents.

Senior editor Marguerite Preston has owned a Weekender seat since 2018 and has found that it’s useful beyond outdoor hangs. “I also keep them in my living room, because they’re great for sitting on the floor while playing with my kid and for extra seats when we have a lot of guests in our small apartment.”

Effortlessly totable

A person carrying a folded ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Seat, with items in its mesh pocket, by the top handles.

Lightweight with two top handles, the Weekender seat is about the size of an art portfolio when it’s folded closed. It has a slim profile that takes up less storage space than the Coleman camp chair, small enough that it could be the last thing you load into a packed trunk without worrying about whether it will fit. I also find the Weekender seat much easier to transport—it can be carried like a briefcase and isn’t nearly as unwieldy as an oddly shaped, bagged camping chair slung over my shoulder.

The back of the seat also includes a roomy mesh pocket that can fit a surprising amount of supplies. In some cases, it can even take the place of a tote bag altogether. When I head to the park, I use the pocket to carry my picnic blanket (the MIU Color Outdoor Picnic Blanket , a former Wirecutter pick), a water bottle, a tube of sunscreen, and a hardcover book. I often leave the blanket, along with an extra pair of sunglasses and sunscreen, tucked into the pocket for future outings.

Portable seating for uncomfortable surfaces

An ALPS Mountaineering Weekender Seat strapped opened on some bleachers.

The Weekender chair isn’t just for kicking back in the park. The portable seat is ideal for any situation where you’ll be sitting for long stretches without back support—like in the bleachers at a baseball game or an amphitheater, the benches in a canoe, or campsite picnic tables.

It also has bottom straps that can be used to secure the seat to most types of benches, making it a versatile alternative to even the most uncomfortable seating situations.

The padded seat also provides a warm barrier between your bottom and cold metal bleachers. Often, the Weekender seat can be the difference between enjoying an event and counting down the minutes until it’s time to leave.

It’s durable and uniquely designed, but not the coziest for long periods

The Weekender seat is cushioned enough to soften the poke of rocks and twigs, but you’ll still be able to feel the ground beneath you. I don’t mind feeling the earth under my butt—it’s part of the reason I gravitated toward this seat in the first place—but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking for outdoor seating with more insulation from the ground.

In my experience, you also need to be able to hold the seat open while you lower yourself into it. This might make using the seat difficult for folks with limited mobility.

Despite constantly being planted in the dirt, my Weekender seat stays surprisingly clean. I’ve only had to wipe it down with a damp cloth once, after accidentally setting up shop in a patch of mud. Otherwise, I’ve only had to shake the seat as I’m packing up to disperse any dusty dirt clinging underneath.

It is on the narrower side. For folks with wider hips, the 17-inch width of the Weekender might be a dealbreaker. As a women’s size 16, I find that the straps dig into the sides of my hips while I sit, which gets uncomfortable after a few hours.

I’ll admit that the Weekender seat might not be the most comfortable way to kick back in the park—but it’s the only “chair” I’ve sat in that offers back support without taking the charm out of sprawling on a picnic blanket. It might not be for every park dweller, but it’s only made my spring and summer afternoons all the sunnier.

'Entitled mom ordered I leave my own garden so she could host family picnic'

A woman has been praised for getting revenge on an 'entitled mom' who demanded she leave her own garden so she can host a picnic in it. The woman detailed how she came home from work to find a family and their dog all lounging on her front lawn, playing games and munching on sandwiches.

Sharing her story on Reddit , she said: "I lived in a house that was a block away from a public park. It was a very large park, and I noticed two soccer games occurring when I left one Saturday to go to the grocery store. When I returned home about 45 minutes later, I noticed there was a truck parked beside my property."

"The occupants of that truck were on my property. There were two children dressed in soccer uniforms, their mom and dad, and a large Doberman. The Doberman was lying on a picnic blanket, the parents were setting up their family's picnic lunch, and the children were chasing each other - all on my front lawn! I couldn't believe my eyes."

  • ' Husband replied to an advert for a one-night stand — I gave birth 38 days ago'
  • Only those with high IQ can spot lost bucket hat in festival scene in 2 minutes

After parking in her driveway, the woman confronted the 'entitled mom' to request her to leave as she was "trespassing on private property". However, not wanting to budge an inch, the mom retorted ordering her to leave instead.

"I walked over to the family asking them why they were on my property," she added. "The entitled mother then snarked at me, 'What does it look like? We are eating lunch.' I asked why are they not eating in the public park that is a block away, and she responded 'It's more peaceful here.' In complete shock, I then said, 'This is private property, and you all need to leave now.' The mother's response was 'Go f*** yourself, you little ****'", reports the Mirror.

"I was furious. I pay the mortgage, I do all the lawn work, and you think it's ok to trespass and tell me where to go on my own property? " Fed up, the woman quickly came up with a plan to get them to scarper, saying it was "the easiest revenge ever".

She said: "I walked right beside them to the outside tap that was attached to my sprinkler system, and turned it on. The family started screaming and grabbed all their stuff as they ran to their truck. The mother and father screamed obscenities the whole time, and said that they were going to 'get me'."

"Well, this is where revenge number two came in. I downloaded my security camera footage which showed their licence plate and brought it to my next door neighbour who just happened to be a police officer who was working that day. The parents were charged with trespassing, and I had a smile on my face for the rest of the day."

In response to her post, one user commented: "I have fantasies about installing a motion-activated sprinkler system on my front lawn for the a***holes who walk onto my property to steal my plants and walk their dogs. Well done." A second responder chipped in: "Absolutely loving this. I don't understand why there are people like this who are absolutely confident they can get away with bad behaviour just because they have offspring."

Another user condemned the neighbours' actions: "These people are nasty and entitled. I would have done exactly the same. Karma is a b****. One can only hope they'll think twice before they pull this stunt again in the future. Without consequences... they'd have probably done it over and over to whoever would tolerate it."

Sienna Miller on her babymoon: ‘It was magical, having that time together’

Star-gazing, a top-notch spa and stocking up on wotsits: the actress’s maldives babymoon was just what she needed before giving birth.

Sienna Miller and her partner, Oli Green

I ’ve always found the term “babymoon” one of those annoying buzzwords, but have always loved the idea of it too. Time away, just the two of you, before you have a baby and become a three — or, in my case, a four. And the Maldives is on everyone’s bucket list just in terms of its beauty. It’s all calm seas and wellness, and the resort we were staying at, Soneva Fushi, has a huge focus on that.

I was heftily pregnant when Oli [Green, Miller’s partner] and I decided to go for a week at the end of last year — when I was about 32 weeks, which was the last possible time, but that didn’t stop me. I was lucky to have an easy pregnancy, so I was up for travelling far. However, I did wear compression socks — quite a sexy look — as well as some cashmere. My best friend’s mum once said, never travel without a piece of cashmere, so I always have a shawl or wrap.

My cravings this pregnancy were Wotsits and Galaxy Smooth Caramel, so I hit up WH Smith for essential snacks before we took off. Then at the airport in the Maldivian capital, Malé, where you wait for your seaplane, there’s a lounge with a chocolate counter and an ice cream station — for a pregnant person who has just come off an overnight flight, this is the breakfast of champions.

There aren’t the words to describe how beautiful the Maldives are. We were in one of those water villas over the sea, and it was astounding; I’d always wanted to stay in one. The staff had handwritten “Welcome to your babymoon” on a sign and even had a cake in the shape of a baby. Every detail had been considered. We had our own deck with a pool and a net that you can lie on over the water. There was also a viewing deck on the roof so you could look at the stars. Being pregnant I wasn’t able to do some things — we had a water slide that went into the ocean, which I wasn’t allowed to go down (that would have been fun; I love a water slide), but Oli did. And one morning we had breakfast in a sort of treehouse in the jungle that is one of the resort’s restaurants. Oli came in on a zip line, which was hysterical. Meanwhile I had to take the stairs, which was actually quite a struggle.

A villa at Soneva Fushi

I’ve got a very get-up-and-go attitude, so I didn’t want to just lie around. We went swimming all the time and rode around on bicycles, which I think gave everyone a heart attack because I was enormous. Every morning we’d get up and quickly get on our bikes to go to breakfast because it was just so incredible. They had the best croissants and pains au chocolat imaginable, any kind of eggs and a crepe station, which I can’t wait to take my 11-year-old daughter, Marlowe, to if we ever go back. I would really indulge and then we’d go back to the villa and lie around and read before heading to the spa.

This was the part of the trip I was most excited about as I’d been busy throughout my pregnancy. Soneva Fushi places a huge emphasis on wellness and has all sorts of specialists. As well as having the best massage of my life, we did a bespoke hypnobirthing course with a doula. It focused on how to manage labour together as a couple. I think men often go into new fatherhood with very little idea of how to manage the situation. They’re just expected to understand, so it was nice to have some guidance. Our doula showed us the things Oli could do to support my birth and the pressure points and massage techniques that would help me. There was lots of looking in the eyes, holding hands and him stretching me. In quite a hippy way, which I love, it was a bonding celebration and way of connecting with the baby.

Then at lunchtime we would go to a restaurant that had sun chairs and steps to the beach. The former Chelsea and England footballer Graeme Le Saux was at Soneva teaching football. Oli and I are huge Chelsea fans and so he and Oli would play together and I’d watch.

I didn’t wear any maternity clothes during my pregnancy, I kept buying jeans in bigger sizes. I didn’t take those with me, though — it was boiling. I’d wear a bikini and a sarong and waft around in kaftans.

Sienna and Oli

In the afternoon it would rain, often for a couple of hours — but after all my biking and eating at this time I’d need a nap. One afternoon we went out for a private picnic. On the way back there was this incredible storm, one of those really dramatic ones where the whole sky is dark and the sea is almost luminescent. The colour was incredible. On another day we went on a sunset dolphin cruise and a private chef cooked us dinner.

Our most memorable dinner was at Soneva Fushi’s five-seater sushi restaurant with the sushi master chef Akira. I love sushi and know you’re not meant to eat it when you’re pregnant, but we knew it was fresh out of the sea so I did tuck in.

If you’re about to have a baby I would highly recommend coming here, just the two of you. Ultimately, indulgence and delicious food is all you care about at that point.

When Oli and I were preparing for the trip we realised that we’d never actually been on holiday, just the two of us, in our entire relationship. So it was really magical to have that time together, thinking about each other and the baby that was about to arrive. soneva.com
