Summer messages for incoming students!

Congratulations on your new adventure as the Class of 2026 at Brooklyn Technical High School!

In less than two months, your freshman year will begin, and we want you to be prepared for the upcoming school year.

For those in the Class of 2025 who are changing high schools, we hope that transferring here is everything you hoped for.

We are going to send a series of emails this summer to familiarize you with some important information every student should know. A day of orientation on either Aug. 31 or Sept. 1  will also help you get to know the school -- and meets some classmates. Students, you will get an email sometime next week to choose a morning or afternoon session.

Once you arrive on September 8th, we hope you aren't overwhelmed. The BTHS.edu website has a cool virtual tour to help you get acquainted with the building. Go   for that. It's a good idea to do a practice trip via the subway or bus, or which ever way you plan to get to school before the first day.

We hope that these emails will answer some of the questions that both you, the student, and your parents may have before entering our building. The more you know coming in, the better.

Each email will focus on a different topics relevant to you and your parents -- from communications and guidance to clubs and athletics.

We've already received questions, so here are some answers.

1) You will receive your new email addresses shortly before orientation. Please go to BTHS.edu to create your BTHS email address.  If you don't have access to your nycstudents.net email address, please email me, .

2)  We don't offer a school-supplies list. On your first day, bring a notebook, a pen or pencil and a folder. Some teachers will request particular items after school starts.

3)  We plan to distribute schedules before the first day of school virtually, so students will know when to arrive. Your first class of the day can be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th period. Here is the

4)  All parents should fill this form:

5) You will receive your Metrocard on the first day.

6) For information about Fall Athletic Tryouts, please go .

7) Fill out the below. Follow the instructions closely for uploading a photo of yourself on a white background. If you need to go back into the survey, you can use your email address to edit it.

We hope you enjoy the rest of summer and look forward to seeing you on Sept. 8 !

Important: Fill out this to choose a language class, tell us about other academic information, let us know your interests in certain electives and PSAL fall sports, and to upload your photo for photo IDs. The Deadline is Aug. 21st.

Hopefully, all incoming students have started their summer reading (Click  ), which needs to be completed by Friday, Sept. 16th. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Jess Rhoades Bonilla, Assistant Principal of English at

School Policy (Homework)

×

HOMEWORK POLICY

  • Long Term Assignments : Long term assignments must be defined in the course syllabus.
  • Lab reports, term papers, and projects should have a clear task, grading rubric (including punctuality of submission as a category), due date, and a sample model of exemplary practice available for student review.
  • If the assignment is longer than two weeks in duration, interim grades based on progress should be given every two weeks (feedback on a draft, guidance on the direction of a paper, etc.)
  • Vacation Assignments : As determined by the School Leadership Team in Spring 2011, vacations are frequently a time for families to spend time together, celebrate holidays, and/or travel. Many of our students are away from home during the vacation periods and cannot bring books and materials. Please be conscious of the “portability” of your assignments as many of students do not have laptops and cannot travel with textbooks. For the purpose of this policy, vacations shall be defined as: Winter Recess, President’s Week, Spring Break and Summer Break.
If assigning homework during a vacation period, follow the directives below:
Vacation homework can only be assigned for classes that terminate in a formal exam (Regents, AP or PLTW). The only exceptions to this rule are classes that meet for only one semester such as Health, Government & Economics Vacation homework must be assigned at least one week prior to the vacation and should take no more time to complete than a typical weekend assignment. Any summer assignments given must be accompanied by instructions indicating how a student with questions would seek guidance/assistance during the summer.   Assignments should not be due the first day back from the break to allow students time to print materials as needed.
