The graphic nature of some video games is said to make kids violent, so it is only natural that some creators try to change this. Stuart writes that it is possible to maintain the fun that shooter-type games induce without using guns. He gives examples of games where you do not kill your enemy, simply stunning or capturing them instead. He also suggests photography as an alternative to killing in a “shooting” game. Finally, he suggests basing video games around helping others, making friends, and doing more peaceful, creative tasks.

“Any role video games play in skewing well-being that did pop up in the study was too small to have a real-world impact on how people feel, the authors said. People would have to play games for 10 more hours per day than their baseline to notice changes in their well-being, the study found.”

Wetsman counters the widespread belief that video games “destroy your brain.” Research done with a sample of 39,000 players over six weeks has shown that whether one plays video games for long or short periods, their mental health is not impacted much. There are some exceptions; however, there are not enough to conclude that video games are, in fact, harmful.

“Some people believe that the connection between violent games, and real violence is also fairly intuitive. In playing the games kids are likely to become desensitized to gory images;which could make them less disturbing, and perhaps easier to deal with in real life. While video games aren’t about violence their capacity to teach can be a good thing.”

In her essay, Newman writes about the supposed promotion of violence in some video games. However, she believes this violence does not cause people to be more aggressive later. Instead, she believes these games expose children to certain atrocities so they will not be traumatized if they see them in real life. In addition, these games supposedly promote connections and friendships. Finally, Newman believes that these “harmful” can make you a better person.

“Gamers need to be educated on how to protect their thumbs, wrists, and elbows, their waistlines, their emotional state, their sleep, and their eyes. Simple education around taking breaks, stretching, eating healthy snacks, and resting and icing your thumb, wrist, or elbow when it starts hurting can address injuries early, before they become significant. For the eyes, gamers can try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, try to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.”

Grinspoon discusses both the benefits and the health risks of gaming. Video games allow people to interact with each other remotely and bond over specific missions or tasks, and some research shows that they have cognitive benefits. However, some gamers may develop vision problems and hand and wrist injuries. Gaming and “staring in front of a screen the whole day” is also associated with obesity. Overall, Grinspoon believes that gaming is best done in moderation.

Teenagers today often spend a great deal of time playing video games. These games are fun and engaging and young people often feel like playing games is a great thing to do in their spare time. However, you shouldn’t spend too much time gaming and there are a number of reasons for this: it’s unhealthy, you should spend more time studying, and you need to socialize more.

The primary reason to cut down on gaming time has to be that youths that spend a long time on computers and games consoles are often not getting enough exercise. With high obesity rates, it’s very important for young people to spend as much time being active as possible, especially since studies show that people who are overweight during childhood and adolescence are far more likely to become overweight adults than those of a healthy weight when they’re young. There is just as much, if not more, fun to be had in getting out and about and being active. This doesn’t have to mean going for long runs if that’s not your thing; team sports are both fun and great exercise. Dance or fitness classes are also a good option for those not into sports.

Secondly, getting a good education is that best thing that you can do for your future. If every teenager cut down on their gaming time by 30 minutes per day and used this time to study, the whole of that generation would achieve better results and be more likely to have the career that they want. With education, you get out what you put in, so it’s really up to you to put in the additional effort. If you want to go to a good college, extra study in your own time will be completely vital, but gaming can reduce your concentration span and make this more difficult.

The third main reason that playing video games too often is that it’s no good for your social skills. Some teenagers may argue that because they can now play their games online with friends, they are socializing in their own way. However, you can’t beat face-to-face contact, and if you want to succeed in interviews and build good relationships in later life, you need to develop some proper communication skills. This shouldn’t be a chore, or difficult, because hanging out with friends is far more fun than sitting indoors playing on games all day anyway!

In conclusion, there can be no doubt that spending too much time gaming isn’t good for you. You don’t have to stop all together, but it’s all about moderation. Cut down and allocate your additional free time to doing things that are good for you, and you definitely won’t regret it in later life.

To Play or Not to Play: The Great Debate About Video Games

Two recent studies shed light on whether video games are good or bad for kids.

With more than 90 percent of American kids playing video games for an average of two hours a day, whether that's a good idea is a valid question for parents to ask. Video games, violent ones especially, have caused such concern that the issue of whether the sale or rental of such games to children should be prohibited was brought before the Supreme Court. 

In 2011, the Supreme Court ruled that video games, like plays, movies and books, qualify for First Amendment protection. “Video games,” the court declared, “communicate ideas – and even social messages.” But that didn’t stop the debate. Real-life tragedies continue to bring attention to the subject, like the revelation that the Sandy Hook Elementary School gunman was an avid video game player . Parents seeking an easy answer to whether video games are good or bad won’t find one, and two recent studies illustrate why. 

While many studies have made a connection between violent video games and aggression in adolescents, research published in August in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that teens who played mature-rated violent video games were also more likely to engage in drug and alcohol use, dangerous driving and risky sexual behavior.

Researchers evaluated more than 5,000 male and female teenagers between ages 13 and 18 over the course of four years and discovered that those who played violent video games were more rebellious and eager to take risks. The effect was greatest among those who played the most as well as those who played games with antisocial main characters. 

But a study published in August in Pediatrics of nearly 5,000 girls and boys ages 10 to 15 revealed that children who played video games for less than an hour a day were better adjusted than children who either played no video games or played for three or more hours a day. These children were found to have fewer emotional problems and less hyperactivity, and they were more sociable overall. Video games, the study suggests, play a very small part in children’s lives when compared to such influences as a child’s family, school relationships and economic background. 

So are video games harmful to children? “It depends on the content of the game and the outcome of interest,” says Marina Krcmar, an associate professor of communication at Wake Forest University. “Violent games have been found to be associated with aggressive outcomes, increases in hostility and aggressive cognitions.” There are several factors that may explain this.

First, there are no negative consequences for bad behavior. Players are rewarded for violence with points, reaching a higher level or obtaining more weapons. And, Krcmar adds, players actively commit violence rather than passively watch it, as they may do through other mediums such as movies and television. 

“Another issue is that our daily behaviors and interactions actually change our brains – that’s why we encourage kids to study and read," Krcmar says. Research presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in 2011 examined the neurological activity of a group of men who did not typically play violent video games but did so for the study over the course of one week, while a control group played none. MRI scans revealed that those who played the violent video games had less activity in the brain areas involved in controlling emotion and aggressive behavior. The control group showed no brain changes at all. “Keep in mind that these were players randomly assigned to play the games, not players who actively chose to do so,” Krcmar says. “We can’t argue here that people who seek out violent games are more aggressive to begin with.” 

The disadvantage of video games, other experts point out, is the simple fact that time spent playing them is time not spent doing such activities as reading a book, playing outside or engaging with friends. But that’s not to say all video games are bad. There are positives to consider, too. 

“Video game play is associated with improvements in hand-eye coordination, faster reaction times, improved visuospatial skill and peripheral awareness, while some educational games can also improve math, spelling and reading skills,” Krcmar says.

A report published in the January issue of American Psychologist points out that shooter games, where split-second decision-making and attention to rapid change is necessary, can improve cognitive performance, while all genres of video games enhance problem-solving skills. And despite the belief that it’s a socially isolating activity, one survey found that more than 70 percent of people who play video games do so with a friend, either cooperatively or competitively. 

“Video games are a wonderful teaching tool,” says Brad Bushman, professor of communication and psychology at The Ohio State University. Computer scientists from the University of California–San Diego recently revealed that children ages 8 to 12 who played a video game they developed that teaches how to code – for either four hours over four weeks or 10 hours over seven days – were successfully able to write code by hand in Java. 

So what should parents do? Monitor content and the amount of time spent on video games, Krcmar advises. And Bushman warns that you shouldn't let your children play age-inappropriate video games. “Video games rated M for 'mature audience 17 and older' should not be played by children under 17," he says. And remember: “The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than two hours of entertainment screen time per day for children 2 to 17, and no screen time for children under 2," Bushman says. This applies to video games as well.

As the men rally to a radio tower, Reznov delivers a powerful speech to help invigorate the men escaping, as it echoes across the labor camp.

His speech is nothing short of riveting, and it rallies even the harshest critics to Reznov’s side. He speaks of war, the exploitation of young men for their country, and how it is now their time for victory. The speech is the perfect call to action, as the imprisoned of Vorkuta seek death over enslavement, even though, a Thundergun easter egg would have helped too.

There is a uniqueness to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for its story. Not only does the player embark on the journey of the Dragonborn, to fight the evil Alduin the World-Eater, but they are also faced with the decision of war. The player can embark on either side, the Imperials, or the Stormcloaks.

The leader of the Stormcloaks is Ulfric Stormcloak, the Jarl of Windhelm. The civil war in Skyrim is over the Nords and their rights to their freedoms and right to beliefs. He gives a powerful speech on why he fights, and even if the player opposes Ulfric’s rule, they cannot fault his dedication.

1 – Look in magazines, journals, and newspapers for events.

It's Something You Know About or Are Interested in Learning About

The most important factor in choosing and creating a great persuasive speech is picking a topic you care about and are interested in. You'll need to do a lot of research on this topic, and if it's something you like learning about, that'll make the process much easier and more enjoyable. It'll also help you sound passionate and informed when you talk, both important factors in giving an excellent persuasive speech.

It's a Topic People Care About

In fourth grade, after being told I could give a persuasive speech on any topic I wanted to , I chose to discuss why the Saguaro cactus should be the United State's national plant. Even though I gave an impassioned talk and drew a life-size Saguaro cactus on butcher paper to hang behind me, I doubt anyone enjoyed the speech much.

I'd recently returned from a family vacation to Arizona where I'd seen Saguaro cacti for the first time and decided they were the coolest thing ever. However, most people don't care that much about Saguaro cacti, and most people don't care what our national plant is or if we even have one (for the record, the US has a national flower, and it's the rose).

Spare yourself the smattering of bored applause my nine-old self got at the end of my speech and choose something you think people will be interested in hearing about. This also ties into knowing your audience, which we discuss more in the final section.

It Isn't Overdone

When I was in high school, nearly every persuasive speech my classmates and I were assigned was the exact same topic: should the drinking age be lowered to 18? I got this prompt in English class, on standardized tests, in speech and debate class, etc. I've written and presented about it so often I could probably still rattle off all the main points of my old speeches word-for-word.

You can imagine that everyone's eyes glazed over whenever classmates gave their speeches on this topic. We'd heard about it so many times that, even if it was a topic we cared about, speeches on it just didn't interest us anymore.

The are many potential topics for a persuasive speech. Be wary of choosing one that's cliche or overdone. Even if you give a great speech, it'll be harder to keep your audience interested if they feel like they already know what you're going to say.

An exception to this rule is that if you feel you have a new viewpoint or facts about the topic that currently aren't common knowledge. Including them can make an overdone topic interesting. If you do this, be sure to make it clear early on in your speech that you have unique info or opinions on the topic so your audience knows to expect something new.

Do Your Research

For a persuasive speech, there's nothing worse than getting an audience question that shows you misunderstood the issue or left an important piece out. It makes your entire speech look weak and unconvincing.

Before you start writing a single word of your speech, be sure to do lots of research on all sides of the topic. Look at different sources and points of view to be sure you're getting the full picture, and if you know any experts on the topic, be sure to ask their opinion too.

Consider All the Angles

Persuasive speech topics are rarely black and white, which means there will be multiple sides and viewpoints on the topic. For example, for the topic "Should people be allowed to own pit bulls?" there are two obvious viewpoints: everyone should be allowed to own a pit bull if they want to, and no one should be allowed to own a pit bull. But there are other options you should also consider: people should only own a pit bull if they pass a dog training class, people should be able to own pit bulls, but only if it's the only dog they own, people should be able to own pi tbulls but only if they live a certain distance from schools, people should be able to own pit bulls only if the dog passes an obedience class, etc.

Thinking about all these angles and including them in your speech will make you seem well-informed on the topic, and it'll increase the quality of your speech by looking at difference nuances of the issue.

Know Your Audience

Whenever you give a speech, it's important to consider your audience, and this is especially true for persuasive speeches when you're trying to convince people to believe a certain viewpoint. When writing your speech, think about what your audience likely already knows about the topic, what they probably need explained, and what aspects of the topic they care about most. Also consider what the audience will be most concerned about for a certain topic, and be sure to address those concerns.

For example, if you're giving a speech to a Catholic organization on why you think priests should be allowed to marry, you don't need to go over the history of Catholicism or its core beliefs (which they probably already know), but you should mention any research or prominent opinions that support your view (which they likely don't know about). They may be concerned that priests who marry won't be as committed to God or their congregations, so be sure to address those concerns and why they shouldn't worry about them as much as they may think. Discussing your topic with people (ideally those with viewpoints similar to those of your future audience) before you give your speech is a good way to get a better understanding of how your audience thinks.

A new study has found that while stress relief is still self-reported as the top reason people are playing video games, 46% of gamers now list “creation, imagination and self-expression” as their main motivations for gaming.

That stat is up 10% from last year, per entertainment website and online fan community Fandom ‘s fourth annual “Inside Gaming” report.

The 2024 edition, released Monday, also stated that the people who are gaming for self-expression, creation and imagination are 30% “more likely to increase their gaming time, feeling more drawn to the gaming world than ever before.”

“From character customization to cosplay and content creation, video games have empowered gamers to explore, express and enhance their identity — nearly two thirds of gamers claim it’s easier to be themselves with a controller in their hands,” Fandom CMO Stephanie Fried said. “With the growing significance of gaming as a means for self-expression and personal evolution, it’s crucial for brands to connect to these motivators to help players bring their gaming personas to life in the real world.”

Fandom’s study was compiled via a survey of 5,000 entertainment and gaming fans globally, and combined with proprietary insights from Fandom’s first-party platform data of over 350 million monthly users, 45 million content pages across 250,000 wikis.

Additional findings include, in Fandom’s own words:

• 80% of respondents feeling their gaming identity differs from their real-life identity
• This is especially true of 18-34 year olds, multicultural (specifically African American & Hispanic) audiences as well as women and non-binary audiences
• 32% of gamers want their physical appearance to be more like their in-game appearance
• 64% believe that gaming communities are vital safe spaces where they can truly be themselves, presenting opportunities for brands to foster and cater to these communities
• The study found that 48% of gamers want their IRL skills to be as strong as their gaming skills, opening up an opportunity for brands to explore how they can create ways to provide gamers with products that enhance IRL skills and provide a sense of accomplishment & achievement they get while playing

• CEO Satya Nadella  gave updates on Microsoft's generative AI products, like Copilot.
• Major announcements included Team Copilot, GitHub Copilot extensions, a Khan Academy partnership, and a surprise Sam Altman interview.

OpenAI and Google may have held the AI spotlight last week, but now it's Microsoft's turn.

The annual Microsoft Build developer conference keynote lasted over two hours on Tuesday, during which CEO Satya Nadella unveiled Microsoft's latest generative AI offerings, including Copilot updates.

Copilot was the dominant theme, continuing what Microsoft started on Monday when it held a press event and unveiled its new Copilot+ PC lineup, which includes the AI-infused Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Focusing on hardware announcements on Monday gave Microsoft plenty of airtime to focus on AI software and features during Tuesday's keynote.

Microsoft unveiled Team Copilot, bringing its AI agent to workplace chats and meetings within Microsoft Teams. Team Copilot is designed to be a "valuable member of the team" that helps people be more productive at work, according to Microsoft.

Other major announcements included GitHub Copilot extensions, a Khan Academy partnership to bring free AI tools to teachers in the US, and real-time intelligence capabilities coming to Microsoft's AI analytics platform, Fabric. Microsoft also said it was "deepening" its partnership with Meta to bring volumetric Windows apps to the Quest headset, extending the apps into 3D space.

But the biggest surprise came at the end of the keynote when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman came to the stage to talk about GPT-4o and his advice to startup founders and developers. Microsoft has invested billions into OpenAI as its partner, and that means GPT-4o is directly integrated into Copilot and the Azure AI cloud suite.

A surprise guest: Sam Altman!

We're getting a surprise interview with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to close out the Build 2024 keynote.

Sam Altman takes the stage and says it's been a "wild week" since OpenAI showed off GPT-4o, its new flagship AI model.

"I've never seen a technology get adopted so quickly in such a meaningful way," Altman says.

Altman says he was genuinely surprised how much he liked ChatGPT's new voice mode powered by GPT-4o.

Altman says it's a huge deal that "the models are just going to get smarter."

The OpenAI CEO says his biggest piece of advice is that this is a special time, so take advantage of it and don't wait to build what you're trying to make. Now is the "most exciting time" to work on a startup since the mobile boom in 2008, and maybe even the internet, Altman says.

But don't expect AI to do all the work for you, Altman adds.

"AI alone is a new enabler but it does not automatically break the rules of business," he says.

AI has huge potential to reduce suffering in the world, Microsoft's CTO says.

Kevin Scott asks the developer crowd to think big with AI, and especially about the potential for AI tools to "reduce suffering" around the world.

For example, he wonders if AI could help his mother with her sickness. It would be great if she could upload her medical charts for AI analysis and get some smart test recommendations, Scott says.

Khan Academy's CEO comes out to chat about its new partnership with Microsoft.

"This is a big deal," Khan Academy CEO Sal Khan tells the Microsoft CTO.

Every teacher in the US will have access to Khan Academy's "state of the art" teaching tools for free, Khan says.

He says he thinks teaching will be the first profession to really benefit from AI, and if they can win them over, students will follow.

The Scarlett Johansson-like "Sky" voice is gone, with a deeper, more robotic-sounding voice in its place. OpenAI pulled the "Sky" voice recently , and Johansson has since said that she was approached to voice GPT-4 last year but declined. After hearing a voice "eerily similar" to hers, she said she's lawyered up .

Scott says the OpenAI GPT-4o demo was conceived of and recorded in the last 24 hours, and its coding abilities give him hope that a "rusty" CTO could still dive back into coding if called upon to do so.

Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott is up next as we near the end of the Build 2024 keynote.

He thanks developers for "all of the great shit you have made over the past year."

He shouts out the over 50,000 customers using Azure AI tools and the platform, ranging from small startups to Fortune 100 companies.

Specifically, he highlights some generative AI work done with Etsy to build features like the marketplace's new "gift mode."

"It is a really innovative way to figure out how to buy things for people who are really difficult to buy for," Scott says.

He then zooms out and reflects on the huge technological shift that AI represents, comparing it to the dawn of the internet. He also shouts out OpenAI's new GPT-4o model.

If you just look at AI compute over time, Scott says, the rate of increase in compute when applied to AI training has been increasing exponentially — and the point of diminishing returns hasn't been hit yet.

Microsoft is working to optimize the current frontier while also investing at "a pretty incredible rate" to "push the frontier forward," Scott says.

Microsoft is "deepening" its partnership with Meta.

Pavan Davuluri announces that Microsoft is "deepening" its partnership with Meta to bring Windows apps to the Quest that extend into 3D space.

We're seeing a clip about bringing volumetric Windows apps to Meta's Quest headsets.

Heads up, gamers: Copilot can help you when you're stuck on that tricky quest.

Pavan Davuluri runs a clip showing how Copilot can work in Xbox games.

We see footage of someone asking Copilot questions about how to complete an in-game task, and the AI agent helps out.

And don't forget the "Minecraft" example we saw earlier.

It sounds like Xbox players won't have to Google as much if they get stuck in a game.

Next up: Copilot+ PCs, which were first unveiled yesterday.

Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Windows + Devices, gets onstage to talk more about the big announcement from Monday: Copilot+ PCs.

Davuluri says the Copilot+ PCs are "redefining what you can do on a PC and setting the direction for the next decade of Windows."

He runs a sizzle reel about the new AI-powered computers, which integrate AI chips and processors along with AI apps, like "Recall," which acts as a "photographic memory" of sorts for your computer, making it easier to quickly find information anywhere on your PC.

"This new class of PCs is up to 20 times as powerful and 100 times as efficient for running AI workloads compared to traditional PCs from just a few years ago," he adds.

Next up, Microsoft's president of collaborative apps and platforms takes the stage.

Jeff Teper is here to talk about Copilot extensions and do some demos to show what it's like to create and use one.

This is the part of the Build keynote where the more in-depth technical demos come out, so our updates might be less frequent.

Teper talks about how you can "drill deeper" into a conversation with Copilot extensions, such as asking about a key feature of a delivery drone. Copilot will provide the necessary information quickly to cut down on having to ask a real person for that information.

Teper's next demo is in Sharepoint, as he creates a custom and secure Copilot extension.

You can publish Copilot extensions back to Sharepoint and Microsoft Teams afterward, where they're visible in a marketplace.

We're hearing a lot more about how Team Copilot works.

Team Copilot goes beyond the individual user to help with project management.

It's a "valuable member of the team," and gets added to your chats and meetings — such as a "meeting facilitator" to keep conversations productive. It can tell the team in a meeting when it's time to move on to the next topic, and takes notes that anyone can add to.

Team Copilot keeps up-to-date information, including timely items or open issues that need to be addressed.

"The entire team will be more productive and collaborative," the video about Team Copilot says.

These features will be available to customers in preview later this year.

We're now hearing from Lumen, a company using Copilot for Microsoft 365 to help their sales staff. What normally takes hours can now take minutes, Lumen says. They've seen an increase in outbound calls by 40%.

Nadella heads off, and Microsoft exec Rajesh Jha takes the stage.

Rajesh Jha, executive vice president of Microsoft's Experiences + Devices Group, takes the stage to talk more about Copilot.

He says that "nearly 60%" of Fortune 500 companies now use Copilot.

Microsoft has added more than 150 Copilot capabilities since the start of this year, he adds.

Nadella unveils Team Copilot and updates to Copilot Studio.

Microsoft's Team Copilot works in Microsoft's Teams workspace.

It can be your meeting facilitator when you're in Teams, creating agendas, tracking time, taking notes for you, Nadella says — it can even be your project manager.

He also talks about updates coming to Copilot Studio, where you can design your own Copilot AI agent and test it before you deploy it. You can then use the AI agent across multiple channels.

Next up: Microsoft announces GitHub Copilot extensions.

Nadella announces GitHub Copilot extensions.

We're seeing a live demo where GitHub Copilot is asked in Spanish to build Java code.

GitHub Copiot extensions are good at "keeping you in your flow across your entire day."

The GitHub Copilot Azure extension makes it possible to diagnose issues as you code and plan to implement changes. We're also seeing the AI tool help come up with a development plan, and then getting its help in implementing the code for a developer.

Coders have long dreamed of "staying in the flow," Nadella says.

Microsoft announces Real-Time Intelligence in Microsoft Fabric.

Microsoft Fabric is the company's AI data analytics platform.

More than 11,000 organizations use it, Nadella says.

With the newly announced real-time intelligence capabilities coming to Fabric, customers can enjoy "instant actionable insights on streaming data."

Microsoft is partnering with Khan Academy.

Khan Academy will use Microsoft's Phi-3, a family of small language models (SLMs), to make math tutoring more accessible; Khan Academy is making its AI assistant Khanmigo free to all US teachers.

In a clip, Khan Academy CEO Sal Khan says he expects the partnership to have a "dramatic impact on US education."

Nadella on stage says he's very excited to see the impact of the Khan Academy partnership.

We're seeing another demo, this one about hiking shoes.

In the video, a man holds up a shoe to his computer and asks the Copilot AI agent if they're fit for a camping/hiking trip.

Copilot responds, and then the man tells the AI agent to identify the best shoe for the trip and add it to his cart. The man speaks Spanish for the next question and the AI agent responds in Spanish.

More than 50,000 organizations use Azure AI today, Nadella says.

"With Azure AI, we offer the broadest selection of frontier and open source models including LLMs and SLMs," Nadella says.

He mentions how GPT-4o is integrated into Azure AI already.

What OpenAI demoed last week, "that was pretty magical stuff," Nadella says.

OpenAI is Microsoft's "most strategic and most important partnership," Nadella says. Copilot will also leverage GPT-4o, Nadella adds.

You can share your screen with Copilot, and have it help with whatever you're working on.

We're seeing a demo of someone playing "Minecraft" and talking to Copilot, which can see what's on the screen, to help the gamer craft and survive. It offers timely suggestions, like seeing shelter "now."

After the demo clip ends, Nadella announces that GPT-4o is now "generally available" on Azure AI.

Next up, AI infrastructure.

Microsoft has "the most comprehensive world infrastructure" for AI, Nadella says.

"We're on track to have our data centers powered 100% by renewable energy by 2025," Nadella says.

The number of countries where its cloud-computing Azure AI services are available has quadrupled, he adds.

Microsoft will be among the first cloud providers to offer Nvidia's latest Blackwell AI chips, he said. The company has a " deep partnership with Nvidia," Nadella says.

The first major topic is Copilot, and the Copilot+ PCs announced yesterday.

Nadella talks up the Copilot Library, with ready to use local APIs.

There are 40+ on-device models to use "out of the box," he adds.

He also shows a sizzle reel about Copilot+ PCs and the AI apps that are tightly integrated in the computers.

Nadella starts a round of applause for developers helping build out AI applications.

Nadella mentions some developer interactions over the past year that stuck out to him, and how the AI apps people are making are making an impact.

Nadella thanks those who "bringing the impact" of AI to the rest of the world.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has taken the stage.

He's talking about key moments in Microsoft's history.

"It feels like we're yet again, at a moment like that," he says.

AI is reshaping "every layer of the tech stack," Nadella adds.

Microsoft has two real dreams, Nadella says: Can computers understand us instead of us having to understand computers? And, in a world of ever-increasing information, can computers help us reason, plan, and act more effectively on that information? He says there are "real breakthroughs" on both fronts.
