16 Best Online Typing Jobs From Home Without An Investment

R.J. Weiss, CFP®

  • Updated July 29, 2020

Typing is a catch-all phrase when it comes to online job listings, often used as shorthand to describe tasks ranging from data entry to video captioning to transcription (among many others).

And while work at home typing jobs may have started out as a popular business idea for women (and   particularly for stay-at-home moms ), today these opportunities are leveraged by people from across the demographic spectrum.

Some online typing jobs pay more than others, and some niches require training, certification, or special equipment. But overall, the field is easy to break into (even if you’re an absolute beginner).

And while there are some scams that you need to watch out for, the fact is that typing is a legitimate online job that can earn you decent money — over $20 per hour, in some cases.

In this article, we’re going to dive into what to look for in typing jobs, what to avoid, and where to find the best opportunities in the field.

Table of Contents

Who Hires Typists?

Many different types of people and organizations hire typists, but two of the most common are doctors and small business owners.

Doctors are sometimes required to provide patient notes to other doctors, lawyers or insurance companies, and handwritten notes are not acceptable.

Rather than spending their time transcribing their notes (which they wouldn’t get paid for), they outsource the work so they can focus on seeing and treating more patients.

Small business owners often find themselves in a similar situation — they may be overwhelmed with paperwork and other correspondence, and focusing on that instead of their core business would be a poor use of their time that would cost them more money than hiring part-time help.

Typing is also sometimes a large portion of the job duties for a virtual assistant .

How Much Do Typists Make?

According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, typists in the United States make $16.22 an hour on average .

However, that means pay ranges from a low of near $10 per hour to a high of around $30 per hour, which is obviously quite a difference.

The amount of money you can command per hour will depend on your level of skill, who you work for (more on that in next section), and whether or not you’re operating within a niche, so it’s a good idea to find one if you want to earn closer to the high end of that range.

Highest Paying Niches Within the Typing Industry

Looking at the typist labor data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, one of the most important factors that determines the amount of money you make is who you work for.

Local government data entry jobs pay an average of $19.22 per hour. That’s much higher than the employment services field, where you’ll find more traditional data entry jobs (such as general office clerks) that pay an average of $15.45 an hour.

Unfortunately, few local government data entry jobs are remote.

Other primary factors in being an above-average earner are your skills and experience. For example, medical transcription work — which most jobs require certification for — pays an average of $16.58 per hour.

Translation work is among the highest-paid niche in the field, with the average rate of $24 an hour .

Full-Time Online Typing Job Sites

Generally speaking, online jobs tend to offer part-time rather than full-time work. That’s certainly true for online typing jobs, especially if you’re just starting out and don’t have a lot of experience.

However, there are a number of sites where you can find either full-time work or piece together a full-time schedule by signing on with multiple clients. Here are a few of the best.

#1. FlexJobs

FlexJobs is one of the best places to find full-time work-from-home jobs in any field, including typing. The site offers freelance, flexible and remote jobs that have all been carefully screened to make sure they’re legitimate opportunities.

Typically, employers are looking for those with at least three years of clerical experience and/or relevant credentials.

FlexJobs is a paid site that charges $14.99 per month. However, you can browse the job listings for free — you just can’t view the application details. So your best bet is to take a look at the site and only sign up if you find opportunities that would be a good fit.

If you do, be sure to use our promo code (WEALTH) to save 30% off your membership. Also, note that you can cancel at any time.

Upwork  is the largest and most respected freelance marketplace. You’ll find thousands of jobs on the site, with new postings added every few minutes.

Competition for work can be fierce, and it can be hard to land your first gig. As someone who has both hired and worked extensively on Upwork, here’s   a detailed overview of how to get started .

Two quick tips for landing your first gig:

  • Look for companies that are hiring only in your location, such as the United States.
  • Send a customized proposal to each client. See  this page  for a three-step freelance proposal template to use when reaching out to clients.

One of the downsides to Upwork is that new freelancers often have to significantly underprice their services. Clients are much less likely to hire you when you have no feedback on the site, so you may need to price yourself aggressively to get a couple of projects under your belt.

Once you do, you’ll find that the site is full of legitimate work and a great place to make money.

Like Upwork, Fiverr  is a marketplace that connects freelancers and clients. But there are a couple of important differences between the two sites.

On Upwork, clients post jobs and wait for proposals. But on Fiverr, it’s the other way around — freelancers create “gigs” with set prices and delivery times, which clients can then “order” on demand. When a client places an order, they’ll pay, upload their documents and instructions, and wait for the delivery of their work — you may not even correspond with them during the process.

This model has some advantages and some disadvantages. On one hand, it’s easier to get work when you have minimal experience, because you don’t need to craft a customized pitch for each client — you just need one effective gig posting.

But on the other hand, Fiverr’s clientele tends to be a little bit less professional, as there are many individuals on the site (some of whom have never hired a freelancer before). That means the rates tend to be lower, the work can be harder (because clients don’t always provide clear instructions), and there’s less opportunity to build long-term relationships.

Still, it can be a great way to get your feet wet in freelancing — and many people do make a solid full-time living on the site.

Conduct a quick search on the job site  Indeed  and you’ll find many different (and often well-known) companies offering work-at-home jobs for roles like online data entry clerks.

These come and go quickly, so it’s best to set up an alert on the site. This way, you’ll get an email any time a new job posting that matches your criteria goes live.

Indeed is the largest job site in the world, which means that postings are not necessarily vetted. Before applying to a job you find on the site, make sure to do some due diligence: research the company on LinkedIn, read through the reviews from current and former employees on Glassdoor, and search Twitter to see what people are saying about the organization.

Companies Hiring Online Typists

There are a number of companies that specialize in hiring people for various kinds of online typing jobs. In most cases, you’ll be hired as an independent contractor rather than as a salaried employee, which means that you won’t be eligible for benefits like health insurance.

In many cases, the pay will also average out to a lower rate than you could earn by working for yourself on Upwork and Fiverr.

However, there’s always a trade-off: what you lose in average pay, you make up for in consistency. In most of the cases below, you’ll have a constant stream of work delivered to you, whereas as a freelancer you’ll have to constantly be on the hunt for new gigs.

#1. AccuTran Global

Quick Summary : AccuTran is primarily a transcription company. If you don’t have a lot of experience, you can still get hired if you score high on the company’s assessment tests. You’re paid per word, and sometimes there are bonuses for more complex jobs.

Experience Needed : Must type at least 70 words per minute and have a strong command of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

#2. Axion Data Services

Experience Needed : Minimum typing speed of 50 WPM and at least two years of data entry experience.

#3. DataPlus +

Quick Summary : DataPlus + specializes in data entry and document scanning jobs.

Experience Needed : Because much of the work is done for law enforcement and legal agencies, all employees and independent contractors must be able to pass a background check.

#4. Kendall Creek Communications

Quick Summary : Kendall Creek Communications (formerly called Birch Creek Communications) specializes primarily in transcription, although some jobs are data entry positions. Workers are paid per audio minute.

Glassdoor Rating : 2/5 stars.

Experience Needed : Transcriptionists must have past experience, and an AAERT certification  (American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers) is highly recommended.

#5. SigTrack

Quick Summary : SigTrack has an interesting niche: it hires contract data entry workers to process voter registration and petition signatures. Workers are paid per piece.

Experience Needed : You don’t need prior experience but you must be able to prove that you’re a legal resident of the United States. Training is provided.

#6. DionData Solutions

Glassdoor Rating : 3/5 stars.

Experience Needed : Minimum typing speed of 60 WPM and basic computer skills.

#7. Working Solutions

Quick Summary : Working Solutions hires independent contractors for data entry jobs in the U.S. and throughout the world. Workers are paid per project.

Glassdoor Rating : 3.6/5 stars.

Experience Needed : Workers must pass a 30-minute employee assessment.

#8. Capital Typing

Quick Summary : Capital Typing is an outsourcing company that provides virtual assistant jobs , including data entry and transcription work (among others). Workers are hired as independent contractors. You’ll be paid per piece.

Glassdoor Rating : 1.5/5 stars.

Experience Needed : Workers must meet the company’s (and the client’s) deadlines and quality standards.

Micro Job Data Entry Opportunities

The term “microwork” refers to tasks that can be completed in just a few seconds or minutes. In most cases, the pay per task is very low. That’s in large part because these tend to be tedious, menial tasks that can be performed by almost anyone with a computer — regardless of their skills or education level.

Still, they are a legit way to make some side income in your spare time — especially if that only comes in short and/or inconsistent bursts.

Plus, you may be able to squeeze more value out of the per-minute payout rate if you have exceptional typing skills (as you’ll be able to work faster than other people).

Learn more : In addition to the options below, check out our list of the best micro job websites .

#1. Clickworker

Clickworker is a marketplace that lets registered workers complete small data entry and translation tasks. To qualify, you must complete and pass a skills assessment. Each task pays $1 (with some exceptions) and can be done anywhere and anytime.

#2. Amazon mTurk

This is a section of Amazon that offers small paid tasks, including data entry. While most tasks pay poorly (many users report making about $2 an hour) they don’t require any experience and can be completed very quickly.

#3. Microworkers

Microworkers offers micro jobs in areas such as data entry, translation and transcription. It’s a marketplace that connects those who need jobs completed and those who want to do the jobs, making it similar to freelancing sites like Upwork and Fiverr.

#4. Scribie

Scribie hires freelancers to transcribe both video and audio files, which are typically short (six minutes or less). Independent contractors earn $10 per hour. Each job is rated on a 1-5 scale, and you must maintain an average score of 2.75 or better to continue working through the company.

Final Thoughts About Online Typing Jobs

Typing is a popular side hustle , as it combines a common skill with high demand. While these characteristics make it easy to get started, they also tend to limit the earning potential within the field.

If you do wish to become a high-earner, it’s best to add additional services correlated with typing and transcription.

One example would be to learn the skills of not just transcribing a podcast, but being able to upload the podcast to a directory like iTunes and create a blog post and show notes for the episode.

Combining multiple in-demand skills allows you to become more sought-after in the marketplace, and it therefore increases your overall earning potential. And while it can take time to learn new skills — especially if you’re starting today without any experience — it’s time well-spent.

Typical typing jobs you’ll find on Microworkers include collecting data and entering it into spreadsheets, translating robot commands to natural conversation, and transcription.

I found an older Reddit thread where users were discussing MicroWorkers strategy and pay. Unfortunately, it looked like the average pay was in the $5-$7 per hour range. Payment will vary, though, depending on the jobs you take, your skill level, and how quick you are.

  • Hourly Pay: All jobs pay a different amount
  • Hours: Flexible

(Note: audio hour is the amount you earn for transcribing one hour of audio – your actual pay will come out to much less.)

6. Accutran Global

Accutran Global hires experienced contractors to help with the transcription of conference calls from professions including medical, legal, financial, and more.

This company currently hires State Board Levels CARTs. Besides this certification, you’ll also need voice writing software and equipment, Windows 10, and a quality pair of headphones.

  • Hourly Pay: Pay is based on the length of the conference call, starting at $75 for up to an hour conference call

mTurk is a company run by Amazon that pays its users for completing tasks called “HITs.” HIT stands for Human Intelligence Task and is a small virtual task that needs to be completed by a human.

Many different HITs are available on mTurk, with some of the most popular being categorization research and data entry,  image processing, and data verification. The pay at mTurk varies by job, but since most jobs are small, the payment is also small.

The good thing about mTurk is you can work when you want, as much as you want. So, if your regular work has dried up, you can use mTurk as a backup for now.

I browsed some Reddit threads to see what avid mTurk workers were making, and it seems like $6-$12 is the norm, with workers occasionally (not consistently) earning up to $20/hr.

  • Hourly Pay: Varies by task and your speed

Some users will receive short assessments they have to take after filling out their profiles.

The pay you receive depends on your rating. If your work is rated a 0-4, your job will be rejected, and you won’t receive payment. Work rated a 5 gets the base pay for the job, and everything above a 5 qualifies for extra pay.

  • Hourly Pay: 0.085 – $1.00 per audio minute
  • Hours : 100% Flexible

13. ClickWorker

ClickWorker

Clickworker is very similar to mTurk. This company hires workers to complete micro-tasks, including correcting text, verifying data, and categorizing data.

Top Questions About Online Typing and Data Entry Jobs

How much money can i expect to earn typing online.

Online typing and data entry jobs are not high-paying. You can expect to earn anywhere from $6 to $12 per hour from most of the jobs on this list. More experienced transcribers with fast and accurate typing speeds may be able to earn more.

It’s essential to understand that the pay per audio or video minute will not be your hourly pay.

Let’s say, for example, pay per audio minute is $1.00. It takes you 4 minutes to transcribe that one minute of audio. This makes your pay $0.25 per minute or the equivalent of $15 per hour.

Are These Jobs Only for Freelancers?

You can find data entry jobs that will hire you as a W-2 employee. However, most on this list won’t. (The exception is Xerox and Aberdeen.)

Most online typing jobs hire freelancers as independent contractors. This means you’ll receive a 1099 at the end of the year for income tax purposes and will be responsible for paying self-employment taxes.

If you’re worried about the tax aspect of freelancing, consult an accountant. An accountant can advise you on how much money to hold back for taxes and how to send in and report self-employment taxes.

Can Students Apply for Work from Home Typing Jobs?

Yes. If you’re a college student and are looking for flexible work you can do anywhere, you can absolutely sign up for work from home typing jobs.

Most of these jobs only require you to be 18, a US resident, and an accurate typer. Other than that, you’ll need a Paypal account to receive payment.

If you’re looking for more jobs you can do as a college student, check out our list of 97 side hustles.

How Can I Earn More From Typing Jobs?

Since most typing or transcription jobs are paid per project, the best way to increase your income is to become a faster and more accurate typer. Luckily, the more practice you get, the more your typing skills will improve.

You can also look into transcription certification programs, but you need to be very selective when doing so. There are many scams, so be sure to check on the legitimacy of any company you sign up with.

Get Paid to Type: What You Should Know

If you want to get paid to type, there are many transcription and data entry jobs you can apply for. It’s good to remember, though, that these jobs aren’t always high-paying and may not be suitable as full-time income sources.

If you want to give these jobs a go, sign up for a few places so that you always have work available to you. This way, you can see if you’ll be able to pull in a liveable income on data entry jobs.

And remember, the faster and more accurate you type, the more money you’ll be able to earn.

If you’re quick with a keyboard, it makes sense if you want to take advantage of your skills to earn some extra cash. Fortunately, it won’t be hard to find work; there are a lot of apps and websites that offer paid opportunities for typists.

We’ve compiled a list of 32 of those sites. Read on for our full list of platforms that offer remote typing jobs, as well as how much they all pay.

01. How can I get paid for typing?

Typing is ubiquitous in almost every industry, so there are a lot of ways to get paid for it. Common jobs in this niche include:

  • Transcribing audio files or recordings
  • Making captions for videos
  • Data entry (e.g., entering info into spreadsheets)
  • Providing live chat support
  • Writing app reviews
  • Writing blog posts or social media posts
  • Solving CAPTCHAs

Our list will focus primarily on transcription, captioning, and data entry platforms. Those have by far the biggest presence in this space, and most would-be typists gravitate toward them.

How much can I get paid to type?

How much you’ll make as a typist heavily depends on the task at hand. To give you a very general sense, transcription generally pays anywhere in the range of $0.40–$3 per audio minute (although some jobs also pay by the hour or minute worked).

Other typing-related gigs, such as writing social media captions, often pay per project. You’ll usually make less from “microtasks” like this than you will from dedicated transcription jobs.

Aside from the type of work you’re doing (and the company you’re doing it for), your typing speed is a very important factor when it comes to how much you can make. For obvious reasons, the faster you can type, the more jobs you can take on, and the more you’ll get paid.

02. Transcription, translation, and captioning sites

Transcription is exactly what it sounds like: listening to audio (or video) files and typing up written transcripts from what you hear.

The most popular sites that will pay you to type are transcription platforms. Many of these also offer translation or localization services, so you have multiple ways to earn if you know more than one language and have a way with words.

The following 17 sites will pay you for typing out audio or video content:

1. TranscribeMe

What it is : TranscribeMe is a good place for transcriptionists to get started. You’ll transcribe 2-to-8-minute-long audio files into text documents. As with virtually all of the gigs on this list, you can work from anywhere, provided you have access to a computer and the internet.

This is a very flexible gig, with TranscribeMe’s only scheduling requirement being that you submit at least one transcript per month. To get started, you have to create an account and pass their English entrance exam.

How much you’ll earn : TranscribeMe’s rates start at $15 per audio hour , with opportunities for raises down the line.

How you’ll get paid : You’ll be paid once per week through PayPal .

2. GoTranscript

What it is : GoTranscript is another transcription site for audio and video files. You can transcribe a wide range of content, such as movies, business meetings, and focus group sessions. The gig is open-ended—you’re in control of how much work you take on.

GoTranscript also offers translation and captioning services (in multiple languages), so if you’re bilingual, you’ll have access to more work on the site.

How much you’ll earn : The site’s average rate is $0.60 per minute of audio transcribed.

How you’ll get paid : GoTranscript will pay you every Friday via PayPal or Payoneer (according to your preference).

3. Babbletype

What it is : Babbletype offers transcription and translation services with a focus on market research content.

Working for them requires more of a commitment than many of the other sites we’ve listed. They hand-pick their candidates once they’ve completed an assessment and a test and passed an interview. You’ll have to transcribe one hour of audio per assignment and must complete four projects per week.

To get started, watch the introduction video on their site and complete the appropriate form to apply for a transcriptionist or translator position.

How much you’ll earn : Babbletype’s transcription base rates range from $0.45 to 0.60 per audio minute . Translation works out at about $90 per 60-minute recording .

How you’ll get paid : Babbletype reportedly pays via PayPal.

4. CastingWords

What it is : CastingWords is another site that offers transcription services for audio and video clips.

There’s no minimum number of hours you need to work per week, so you can do as much or as little as you like.

You must be at least 18 years old and may have to complete a short test before being accepted.

How much you’ll earn : Freelancers get a base rate of $0.85 per audio minute . CastingWords also employs a grading system that will affect your earnings.

How you’ll get paid : CastingWords will pay you via PayPal every Friday.

5. Daily Transcription

What it is : Daily Transcription provides transcription and captioning services to the corporate, entertainment, legal, medical, and academic sectors. You can get paid to transcribe files that include movies and TV episodes, legal proceedings, and academic and market research feedback.

Daily Transcription also provides opportunities for editors to listen to audio files and edit AI-generated transcripts.

To work for them, you need access to a computer and headset, transcription software (such as oTranscribe ), and a typing speed of 50 words per minute (WPM). You also must pass a transcription assessment.

How much you’ll earn : You can earn $45–$66 per hour of material as a general transcriptionist, with more specialized transcription tasks offering higher rates.

How you’ll get paid : Daily Transcription pays on a weekly basis. Unusually, according to their site, they pay via check , unless you’re outside the US (in which case “other arrangements may be made,” according to their site).

6. Hollywood Transcriptions

What it is : Hollywood Transcriptions provides transcription, translation, and captioning for movies, television, and streaming services (such as Netflix). As one of their freelancers, you’ll often be tasked with writing closed captions for shows or transcribing interviews and B-roll footage.

Hollywood Transcriptions also offers their services to the academic and corporate sectors.

You need to type at 65 WPM and have a reliable PC or Mac with a stable internet connection to work for them. They also ask that you have transcription software and a foot pedal, though you don’t have to have them before applying; you can get both once you’re hired.

Note regarding pay : Hollywood Transcriptions does not publicly list their rates or how they pay their workers. We contacted them to ask about this and did not receive a response.

What it is : Scribie provides automated transcription services. As a freelancer, you’ll listen to and edit their AI-generated transcripts.

You need access to a laptop or desktop computer, a broadband connection, and headphones to work for them.

Reportedly, there’s a lot of competition for work on Scribie, so you may struggle to land gigs if you’re not quick and very active on the site.

How much you’ll earn : While editing transcripts is easier than producing them from scratch (at least for beginners), Scribie’s pay rate is quite low, ranging from $5 to 20 per audio hour .

How you’ll get paid : You get paid through PayPal, usually within 36 hours after completing the project.

8. Speechpad

What it is : Speechpad offers transcription, captioning, and translation services to a diverse range of international clients.

When you work for them, you’ll pick the jobs you want to do. Most of the files they offer for transcription range from 1 to 5 minutes.

There’s no minimum number of hours you need to work per week, and the only other requirements are a typing speed of 40 WPM and access to a computer or laptop with a stable internet connection.

How much you’ll earn : The pay rate for transcriptionists is $0.25–$2.50 per audio or video minute , and $2–$5 per audio per video minute for translators. You’ll probably start on the lower end of that range; Speechpad may give you access to higher-paying jobs after you’ve worked for them for a while.

How you’ll get paid : Speechpad pays twice a week through PayPal.

What it is : Rev uses speech recognition AI tools to convert audio recordings, such as focus group recordings, interviews, lectures, and podcasts, into text. As a freelancer, you’ll check and potentially correct these transcripts.

You need to take a grammar quiz and submit a transcription sample before starting with them.

How much you’ll earn : Rev pays $0.30–$1.10 per audio or video minute for transcription work and $0.54–$1.10 per audio or video minute for captioning.

Foreign subtitling work pays the most, at $1.50-$3.00 per audio minute . Your exact rates will depend on the language you’re subtitling.

How you’ll get paid : Rev pays weekly through PayPal for work completed in the previous week.

10. TigerFish

What it is : On TigerFish , you can get paid to transcribe a wide range of audio and video files. They say that they expect a high level of attention to detail. Candidates need access to transcription software and must complete a sample transcription assignment before working for them.

How much you’ll earn : TigerFish’s pay rates are on the lower end of the spectrum, with a base rate of $0.03–$0.04 per line of text . (It’s unclear how many words constitutes a “line.”)

They may pay more money for specialized transcriptions, such as medical transcriptions.

How you’ll get paid : They pay out every two weeks through PayPal.

11. CrowdSurf

What it is : On CrowdSurf , you’ll transcribe audio to text and provide subtitles or closed captioning for videos.

Oddly, they post their tasks on another site called WorkMarket , so you’ll need to create an account with them to sign up.

CrowdSurf doesn’t require you to complete any set amount of work per week, but if you do a lot of tasks for them and are a proficient worker, they may be willing to offer you higher rates or bonuses.

How much you’ll earn : CrowdSurf’s base pay ranges from $0.03 to $0.20 per audio or video minute , not including bonuses.

How you’ll get paid : You can cash out your earnings via PayPal or on a Wisely card.

12. AccuTran Global

What it is : AccuTran Global offers a diverse mix of services, including both transcription and real-time stenography. They have a particular focus on the finance industry, although they service a diverse range of clients.

Their work is part-time, but somewhat scheduled—you tell them the hours you can work, and they’ll offer you jobs within those times.

They require a minimum typing speed of 60 WPM. You need access to a PC with Windows 10 (to run their transcription software—if you use a Mac, you’re out of luck). You’ll also need decent-quality headphones and a reliable internet connection.

AccuTran prefers candidates who are familiar with financial terminology, but that’s not a prerequisite. Once you’ve sent them your resume, you’ll need to complete a transcription test, several typing tests, and other exercises to test your skills.

How much you’ll earn : The base pay for new transcriptionists starts at $0.004 per word . More experienced transcriptionists can earn up to $0.0055 per word .

How you’ll get paid : They pay on a monthly basis via PayPal.

13. SpeakWrite

What it is : With SpeakWrite , you’ll transcribe audio from police offices, law offices, legal teams, and protective services, as well as from business and corporate clients.

You must be proficient in Microsoft Word, have access to a PC with Windows 10, have a typing speed of 60 WPM, and have at least one year of “transcription or word processing experience” in an office setting. You also must be a resident of the US or Canada, but you cannot work for SpeakWrite if you live in California (due to some of the state’s employment laws).

You need to schedule at least 15 hours of work with SpeakWrite per month.

How much you’ll earn : Their pay rate starts at $0.005 per word , with some shifts offering a 10% bonus.

How you’ll get paid : SpeakWrite pays twice a month via direct deposit.

14. OneSpace

What it is : As a OneSpace gig worker, you’ll transcribe phone calls, focus group sessions, and interviews.

After creating an account with them and entering your professional information, you’ll be able to see jobs on their site and apply to work on them.

When starting out, you’ll have a limit on the number of tasks you can take on, which will affect your potential earnings. OneSpace has a leveling system for contributors, so if you keep working for them (and they find your work satisfactory), they’ll boost your rating and you’ll get access to more lucrative jobs.

How much you’ll earn : Each task pays differently, but the average rate is $0.10 per audio task . It’s unclear how long “tasks” generally take.

How you’ll get paid : OneSpace will pay you through PayPal . Once you’ve submitted your tasks and they’ve been approved, it will usually take 3–7 business days to get your money.

15. Quicktake

What it is : Quicktake hires freelancers to transcribe videos, phone calls, voicemail messages, medical files, and other kinds of audio files. They also offer work transcribing foreign language files.

You have full control over how much you work, with no minimum hourly requirement.

If you want to transcribe for them, you must pass a background check and take two tests: one to measure your typing skill and another on Quicktake’s requirements for transcriptionists.

How much you’ll earn : Payment starts at $0.0025 per word for normal transcriptions. Medical transcription jobs pay $0.005 per word .

How you’ll get paid : Quicktake pays every Monday through PayPal.

16. Amberscript

What it is : Typists for Amberscript review audio or video files, read preexisting transcripts or captions (all machine-generated), then make any necessary edits.

Amberscript doesn’t require you to turn in a particular amount of work per week, although they do note that when you accept a task with them, it must be completed before the deadline (something that also goes for the other platforms on this list, and that is also good practice for freelance work in general).

After sending in your application to work for Amberscript, you’ll need to complete a test job within 48 hours.

How much you’ll earn : Amberscript pays in Euros. Their rates are as follows:

  • Transcription : €0.45–€1.20 (approx. $0.48–$1.29) per audio or video minute
  • Captioning : €0.90–€1.90 ($0.97–$2.11) per audio or video minute
  • Translation : €3.50–€6.00 ($3.76–$6.44) per audio or video minute

How you’ll get paid : You get paid on a monthly basis via bank transfer or PayPal.

17. Lionbridge

What it is : Lionbridge is primarily a translation and localization company, not a transcription company. They offer their services to clients in many different industries, including gaming, medicine, telecommunications, and finance.

They’re flexible about how much work you need to complete for them, but you do need to pass an exam before you begin.

Keep in mind that the amount of work they’ll offer depends on what languages you’re able to translate from (or into). If you speak an in-demand language, they can be a good source of work, but if yours isn’t very popular on the site, you should expect Lionbridge to be a supplementary source of typing-related jobs, not a major one.

How much you’ll earn : Lionbridge doesn’t clearly state how much they pay, but users have reported rates of around $6-14 per hour .

How you’ll get paid : Here again, Lionbridge doesn’t specify how they pay their workers, but the reports we’ve read indicate they pay via bank transfer. If you’re not based in the US, this may make it tricky to receive your payments.

03. Data entry sites

Transcribing audio and video content isn’t the only way to get paid for typing. You can also make money with data entry .

Essentially, this means transferring information from one format to another. In practice, that often consists of entering it into a spreadsheet or an online form that will submit it to a database.

These five sites will pay you for data entry:

18. MicroWorkers

What it is : MicroWorkers is a platform that employers use to outsource tasks and jobs that are too time-consuming or tedious to handle themselves. Jobs can range from collecting and entering data into spreadsheets to converting AI-generated content into text that sounds natural and human.

After you set up an account with them, you can check out the jobs posted on their site. MicroWorkers uses a rating system that will limit your access to many jobs, with those holding higher ratings getting access to better-paying opportunities.

How much you’ll earn : Payment varies widely depending on the task at hand. MicroWorkers takes a 10% cut of your earnings .

How you’ll get paid : MicroWorkers pays via these platforms:

Which platforms are available may depend on where you’re working from.

19. Working Solutions

What it is : Working Solutions employs remote workers as data entry clerks, as well as virtual support agents for customers.

They ask that you work at least 15 hours per week, but they’ll let you pick the hours that work best for you.

All you need to get started is a reliable computer with a high-speed internet connection, a USB headset, and a quiet workspace.

How much you’ll earn : How much you can make varies from project to project and depends on your experience. Their site states that you can earn up to $19 per hour , plus bonuses.

They also have a referral program. They’ll pay you $400 for each person you get to sign up.

How you’ll get paid : Reportedly, you can opt for payment via direct deposit, check, or prepaid card.

What it is : You probably already know Xerox for their printers and scanners. What you might not know is that the company is also a good source of data entry jobs. They run a virtual office program —essentially a list of jobs with them that can be done remotely.

If you get hired for a data entry job with Xerox, you’ll enter data into their databases, as well as verify the accuracy of all of the information you type. This work may be part-time or full-time.

To land work, you’ll need to check their job board and specify that you want virtual work, then apply for any jobs that seem like a good match.

How much you’ll earn : Unfortunately, Xerox doesn’t specify how much they pay their data entry clerks.

How you’ll get paid : Xerox doesn’t indicate how they pay their workers, either, but as a large, traditional company, it’s likely that they pay via direct deposit or check.

21. SigTrack

What it is : SigTrack specializes in data processing and verification for petitions and voter registration. As one of their freelance typists, you’ll spend most of your time validating signatures (i.e., reviewing images and selecting or typing the corresponding names).

All freelancers must have:

  • US citizenship
  • Access to a PC or laptop running Windows 10 or higher, or Mac OS 12 or higher
  • A stable internet connection

How much you’ll earn : SigTrack has a complex pay system based largely on accuracy. You’ll earn less money if you enter data inaccurately. For example, if the base pay for a job is $200 and you complete it with 98% accuracy, you’ll only get $180 .

(SigTrack gives conflicting information about their minimum standards for accuracy; on their Essentials page , they claim that all workers must maintain 98% accuracy, whereas on their How Pay Works page, they say just 95%.)

How you’ll get paid : You’ll get paid every Friday through PayPal.

22. Axion Data Services

What it is : Axion typists transfer data from various sources into Axion’s database, verify the data, and edit it when necessary. The gig’s schedule is flexible, but Axion asks for a minimum of 30 hours per week.

You’ll need to pass a criminal background check, have at least 2 to 3 years of data entry experience, and have a keystroke rate of 15,000 keystrokes per hour to work for them.

How much you’ll earn : Axion’s rates depend on the job you take on, with some longer jobs paying up to $9 per entry , though their general rate is lower.

Axion will also evaluate your accuracy, speed, and productivity, which can affect your earnings.

How you’ll get paid : Axios will pay you every two weeks through direct deposit.

04. General-purpose job sites that feature typing gigs

Aside from the sites we’ve mentioned, there are several freelance job boards you can check out to find typing jobs (as well as other work).

These sites don’t pay fixed rates; your pay will vary from job to job and will generally be negotiable between you and your clients.

23. Freelancer.com

What it is : Freelancer.com is one of the largest freelance marketplaces in the world. It features a ton of opportunities, including typing projects.

It’s very easy to find clients to work for, with no shortage of posts. That said, the competition for work is quite stiff, and you may have to accept relatively low rates in the beginning to get your foot in the door.

How payment works : You can sign up and bid for jobs free of charge, but Freelancer.com deducts a 10% fee from your earnings . You may receive a flat fee for jobs or get paid an hourly rate, depending on what you and your clients agree on.

You can receive your money via:

  • Express withdrawal to your bank account
  • Wire transfer
  • Skrill (does not support payments in US dollars)

What it is : Upwork is another extremely popular freelance job board. It works much like Freelancer.com does: you create an account and a profile (which may include a portfolio of your past work) and apply for jobs that interest you, competing with other freelancers to get them.

How payment works : Upwork will take a 10% cut of your profits. In the US, you can cash out via:

  • Direct deposit
  • Instant Pay

Some payment methods may come with fees (variable depending on where you’re located), so be sure to check before you pick one.

What it is : Fiverr is yet another large marketplace that puts freelancers in contact with businesses that are looking to outsource tasks.

On Fiverr, instead of bidding for jobs, you’ll list your services and prices. Clients can then purchase them.

How payment works : When someone pays for one of your services, Fiver will take a 20% commission.

You can withdraw via:

  • Bank transfer
  • The Fiverr revenue card (Fiverr’s own MasterCard; no longer being issued, but still available to existing cardholders)

26. PeoplePerHour

What it is : PeoplePerHour is UK-based site where you can advertise your typing services and set your own rates. You can sign up for free; once your application gets approved, you can start browsing for jobs right away.

Like on most freelancing sites, you’ll be competing against many other freelancers, so the amount of work available may fluctuate.

How payment works : PeoplePerHour takes a commission, which will change as you earn more money on the site (as a UK-based site, they measure this in GBP). Here’s how their commission structure works:

  • If you’ve earned under £250 : You’ll pay a 20% commission.
  • If you’ve earned £250–£5,000 : You’ll pay 7.5%.
  • If you’ve earned over £5,000 : You’ll pay just 3.5%.

You can withdraw your earnings via PayPal, Payoneer, or receive a direct deposit to your bank account.

28. Amazon Mechanical Turk

What it is : Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a “crowdsourcing marketplace” that puts you in touch with businesses that want to outsource their workloads.

Tasks on MTurk are known as Human Intelligence Tasks (HITs). There’s no shortage of typing jobs, including data entry, transcription, survey-taking, and Excel spreadsheet work.

Once you create an account with MTurk and wait 48 hours, you can start working. However, for many of the higher-paying jobs, you’ll need to complete a certain number of HITs first.

How payment works : MTurk takes a 20%–40% commission, although it charges this to employers, not freelancers (so the price you see is what you’ll actually earn). You can withdraw your earnings to your bank account or to your Amazon gift card balance.

29. Clickworker

What it is : Like MTurk, Clickworker is a workplace platform that focuses on microtasks.

Freelancers can accept small tasks that businesses outsource, ranging from data entry to AI training.

You can even work from your smartphone, and you have full control over how much or how little you want to work.

How payment works : You can cash out on a weekly basis via PayPal, Payoneer, ACH payment, or direct transfer to your bank account.

30. FlexJobs

What it is : FlexJobs is an online job board, much like Monster and Indeed. However, they have a particular focus on flex-time and remote jobs. They claim that they use a screening process to ensure that all jobs posted are legitimate.

You do need to pay to start finding jobs through them, with the cheapest subscription plan being $5.95 per month.

Once you create an account with FlexJobs, you’ll get unlimited access to their job board, as well as a personalized portfolio and free skills testing.

05. CAPTCHA solving sites

Lastly, if you want a typing job with a very low barrier to entry, you can earn money by solving CAPTCHAs . These are those tests that you have to complete to prove to websites that you’re a human being and not a computer (e.g., “type the six numbers in this image”).

There are several sites that will pay you to repeatedly solve CAPTCHAs and type the answers.

Note : These sites generally pay very low rates. You’ll almost certainly be able to earn more on the other platforms on this list (or from any minimum-wage job, for that matter).

While we’re not aware of any evidence that these sites are outright scams, we don’t recommend working for them. They pay real money—but not very much of it.

31. 2Captcha

What it is : On 2Captcha , users submit the CAPTCHAs they want solved and you complete them. It’s very easy to get started—all you need is a computer or smartphone with internet access. When you create an account, you’ll complete a quick training course and be all set.

How much you’ll earn : 2Captcha pays $0.14-$0.60 per 1000 CAPTCHAS completed .

How you’ll get paid : You can cash out via the payment platforms WebMoney, Perfect Money, or Volet. You can also opt to receive your earnings as Bitcoin.

32. MegaTypers

What it is : MegaTypers claims that it provides data entry services to private and governmental entities and that if you work with them, you’ll mostly retype scanned papers to convert them into editable digital documents.

However, most online reports contradict this. They suggest that while it’s possible MegaTypers handles a small amount of that type of work, they’re mostly a CAPTCHA-solving website.

Like 2Captcha, MegaTypers is very accessible. Its only requirements are a typing speed of 10 WPM (a very low bar) and a computer with a stable internet connection.

How much you’ll earn : MegaTypers pays their typists in “TyperCredits.” It’s unclear exactly how much these are worth; MegaTypers’ site seems to claim that one TyperCredit is worth $1, but anecdotal reports from past users suggest a much poorer exchange rate of one TyperCredit for just $0.01.

MegaTypers’ rates range from $0.45 to $1.50 TyperCredits per 1000 words typed . (Again, a “word” is likely a CAPTCHA.)

How you’ll get paid : You can opt for payment via PayPal, Payza, a linked debit card, or check.

To reiterate, solving CAPTCHAs for money is a low-paid gig, and we don’t recommend it, although whether it’s ultimately worth it is up to you.

If you decide that you want something more lucrative but none of the other platforms on this list appeal, you can read our list of other side hustle ideas , many of which are also remote and can be done on a flexible schedule, like typing. Legitimate work-from-home typing jobs (that pay more than data entry jobs)

genuine websites online typing jobs

If you’re good at typing, there are a lot of work-from-home jobs that pay more than data entry. This guide will help you secure those jobs so you can start earning good money quickly.

Preparing for these jobs

genuine websites online typing jobs

A good thing about most work from home typing jobs is that you don’t need any specific qualifications to land them, just some experience and preparation.

Test your typing speed and accuracy

In the typing world, speed and accuracy are key qualifications. Luckily, there are many tests you can take online such as:

  • Typing.com Test
  • Typing Academy Test
  • LiveChat Typing Test

The average speed for professional typists range from 50 WPM (words per minute) to 80 WPM. If your score falls short of these averages, keep practicing. It’s also important to note that speed isn’t everything—aim for accuracy as well.

Build a portfolio

A portfolio can be as simple as a bunch of links you keep privately, and then send out when you’re pitching work. It can also be more detailed like Caitlin Reid on Clippings or Jake Bleiberg on Clippings .

To start a portfolio, gather examples of the best work you’ve done and get them into a document or spreadsheet. You can liven it up with pictures or art if you’d like, but the important part is the work. If you haven’t written anything online yet, you can start for free by writing posts on LinkedIn blogging and Medium , or posting on your own social media accounts.

Build a presence online

Make sure you’re easy to find online. In specific, you need:

  • A personal website : Tools like WordPress or Carrd streamline the process for you.
  • Active social media profiles : Platforms like LinkedIn or Twitter are well-built for writing.

Make sure your profiles are filled out properly so people know what kind of work you offer.

Where (and how) to find work-from-home typing jobs

genuine websites online typing jobs

Although there are plenty of jobs available, it takes some work to find them. Start by choosing your focus, then look for roles in the right places, and don’t forget to tell your network.

1. Choose your focus

Think about what work you enjoy doing, particularly any additional skills on top of typing. This can help narrow down your options, so you can find typing jobs more tailored to you. It can also help you when you pitch because you can be more specific about the things you're strongest at and showcase skills that differentiate you from other candidates.

2. Look in the right places:

After choosing a focus, there are multiple freelance marketplaces, managed services, and job boards you can use to find gigs.

Marketplaces

  • Freelance Writing Gigs : Freelance Writing Gigs rounds up job postings each week and sends one big email. They also provide guides for building your online portfolio.
  • Contenta : Contenta helps find freelance writing gigs and offers a writer training course to help you up your game.
  • Guru : Guru offers one of the larger marketplaces for online writing jobs.
  • Problogger : Problogger only focuses on blog-related work from home freelance gigs.
  • Copify : Copify will let you offer your services for different kinds of content.
  • The Writer Finder : The Writer Finder offers a more personalized approach to finding you matches for work. You fill out a survey, and they’ll come to you with the best matches that you can pitch.

When you start a profile on a marketplace, make sure it’s comprehensive. Name every kind of typing service you want to offer and provide examples of your work. This process gets easier as you collect more work and get reviews.

Managed services

If you don’t like managing clients, freelance managed services might be a good fit. These platforms will find you gigs, place you for work, and handle all the administrative tasks so you can focus on getting the job done. In return, they take a small percentage of your pay.

  • Magic : Magic will take into account the work you want to focus on, and assign you to the best fit clients.
  • Virtual Gurus : If you’ve built up a decent portfolio of work, Virtual Gurus is worth applying to for more experienced typists.
  • Marketer Hire : A managed service exclusively for marketers, you can sign up as a writer on the platform and get placed with clients almost immediately.

Many companies post work-from-home typing gigs on job boards.

  • FlexJobs : FlexJobs looks over every job that’s posted on the platform to ensure you’re getting the safest remote listings.
  • Remote OK : Remote OK offers one of the most intuitive UIs for job searches so you can browse hundreds of potential typing jobs quickly.
  • WeWorkRemotely : If you like a straightforward search, We Work Remotely has one of the most simplistic and easy-to-use search engines on the job board market.
  • Dynamite Jobs : On certain postings, Dynamite Jobs allows you to connect directly with hiring managers so you can connect to them faster.
  • Custom LinkedIn search: Many hiring managers will share their job postings on LinkedIn, and a custom search can help direct you to many of those posts.

3 - Tell your network

Make it clear on your LinkedIn or social media pages that you’re offering writing services, but don’t be too pushy with your network. Even if people don’t have an immediate need for your services, at the very least they’ll know they have someone they can go to if the opportunity presents itself.

Did you know? 30% of telecommuters save upward of $5,000 per year. - Review42

Crafting your pitch to get the gig

Once you’ve found the opportunity (or opportunities!) you want, here are some tips on crafting the perfect pitch to help you land the job:

If you got an inbound lead : Ask about the individual’s goals and needs. This will help you tailor your proposal so it best fits what they want.

If you saw the opportunity on a freelance marketplace : Follow all the rules for applying that the marketplace sets out. Also, make sure you follow any instructions laid out by the person posting the gig.

If you got the opportunity from a managed service : Take the same approach as a marketplace, but follow the rules of the managed service. Each platform will likely have its own process for taking on new work, so be prepared to make the necessary adjustments across different outlets.

If you saw the opportunity on a job board : Apply like you would if it was a full time job. This could include writing out a cover letter, and adding a short introduction note to the hiring manager before you apply. Some job boards have their own instructions, so be sure to follow those as well.

Managing clients

genuine websites online typing jobs

Once you get the gig, it’s important to prioritize client management. This will help you get the best outcome from your projects and ensure you are paid on time. Here are a few points to keep in mind:

Project scoping : Make sure the project outcome is clear before you start work. Ask what a successful outcome looks like and what metrics you’re expected to hit.

Communication : Be transparent about timelines and delivery dates. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you aren’t clear on anything. Communication is a big key to making sure everybody is on the same page.

Invoicing and payments : Make sure you have a good payment system that allows you to create professional invoices quickly and accept payments efficiently. If you accept work through a marketplace or managed service, make sure you’re aware of their rules when it comes to payments (including fees).

Thinking long term : Think ahead about your client’s bigger business goals (and don’t be afraid to ask your clients what they’re planning). This will help you figure out ways you can improve how you work with them or to provide add-on services. Additionally, if you do a great job for a client, and they’re happy about the work you did, don’t be afraid to ask them for a referral.

Making money working from home

If you want to make money working from home, remember, you’re not just limited to just data entry. If you can type, there’s a huge opportunity to make money. There are tons of marketplaces and niches you focus on, and you can start building up a portfolio in no time. Work from home typing jobs can be the start of a beneficial side gig - or even a thriving full-time freelance business.

5 Legit Typing From Home Jobs in 2024 (No Scams. No “Systems.”)

Last Updated: May 16, 2024

INSIDE: If you enjoy typing and you’d like to work from home, typing from home jobs are the perfect fit. Fortunately, there are several options with varying skill sets.

Are you looking for an easy way to break into working from home? Are you a good typist? If you answered yes to both of those questions, consider a work-from-home typing job!

During my initial foray into the work-from-home journey, online typing jobs were a source of income that guided my path. Regardless of whether you’re a great typist or just beginning, this avenue could prove to be a profitable venture for you as well. Speaking from my personal journey, I can assure you that even if your typing speed is currently less than stellar, there are tons of free resources you can practice with to improve your typing skills . These same resources can certainly help boost your skill level and thereby, your earning potential in typing jobs.

And as long as you have good hearing or can handle data entry, there’s a typing job out there you can do as a freelancer, whether it’s general transcription, virtual assistance, or microtasks. Read on for my guide to online typing jobs and where to apply.

1. Data Entry Jobs

Data entry work is an incredibly easy work-from-home job  that’s largely open to beginners.

You shouldn’t need any special training or experience for an online data entry job. You just need to be able to type and have basic computer skills , such as entering information into an application as directed.

That could involve adding data to a spreadsheet or entering data into a company’s system. You may be expected to verify and/or edit the data, and some forms of data entry involve research.

There are also specialized forms of data entry that require more training and even certification, such as medical coding or scopistry ( editing and reviewing the transcription of a court reporter ).

Data entry is a highly repetitive job, so you need to make sure that won’t get to you over long periods.

Equipment Needed

A private desktop or laptop computer you can work on from home, with high-speed internet access, is required.

You should also have a keyboard with a number pad (or a separate number pad you can plug in via USB).

2. Captioning Jobs

With a captioning job, you listen to an audio file and transcribe what you hear. But instead of making simple transcription documents, you create captions on videos for people who are hard of hearing or who want to watch a video with the sound off.

Captioning tends to be more complete and more demanding than transcription, including notation of background noises, for example.

Closed captioning involves a prerecorded video file, from recorded lectures to TV programs.

A real-time captioner has a more intense job because they caption a live program, such as a sports broadcast or news show. There may only be a short delay in airtime, requiring you to be fast and accurate with your captions.

For most professional captioning jobs, you’ll need some kind of certification. Working with stenographic shorthand is often required, especially due to the demand for high typing speeds.

A computer or laptop you can work on from home with high-speed internet access is required, plus headphones to make listening to the audio easier.

You will also probably need a stenotype machine.

How Much Can You Make Doing Captioning Work From Home?

From my personal journey, I’ve found that captioning, a specialized form of transcription, is indeed a more demanding sector, but it also pays off better than general transcription. When I became adept at it, I was even able to turn it into a full-time gig. So, based on my first-hand experience, I can assure you that once you gain enough experience and establish your reputation, you can definitely make a steady income out of captioning.

3. Transcription Jobs

This is probably what you think of first when you think of work-from-home typing jobs. As a transcriptionist, you listen to audio recordings and type what you hear. It really is that simple!

You need a good sense of hearing to do a transcription job , including the ability to understand various accents and untangle multiple sources of sound – from multiple voices to background noise competing with the speaker.

You should also be a good typist, with a high typing speed and low error rate. Transcription is not an industry that tolerates much in the way of typos or other mistakes!

Some online transcription jobs, such as those serving the legal or medical industries, may require certification, which you can complete online.

Equipment Needed

To be a transcriptionist, you need a computer you can work from at home with high-speed internet access (of course).

You also need headphones to listen to audio files, and sometimes, you may need specific transcription software and/or a foot pedal .

How Much Can You Make Doing Transcription From Home?

To be quite honest, entry-level transcription doesn’t pay that much, reflecting the simplicity of the job. However, experience can earn you better rates of pay, and so can specializing in medical transcription or legal transcription.

Much of the industry pay per audio hour completed, so you can also increase your rate of pay by being an incredibly quick and efficient transcriptionist.

4. Virtual Assistant Jobs

With a home virtual assistant job, you can make money online by doing many things for your client, including data entry.

Some clients may want spreadsheets created from raw data they’ve collected, or they may want you to do some research – finding companies that fit certain criteria and filling out contact details in the client’s computer system, for example.

The great thing about virtual assisting is the sheer variety of tasks you might be asked to do, and research and data collection keep the data entry part of the job from being too monotonous.

Plus, if you can offer various other services, such as social media management, ghostwriting, customer service, or mailing list optimization, you can earn more than you might in more traditional data entry-only roles.

This depends on exactly what you’ll be doing for your clients, but a home computer with high-speed internet access is the default requirement.

You should also have a comfortable place to work undisturbed for extended periods, along with access to common software programs, such as Microsoft Office or G Suite.

How Much Can You Make As A Virtual Assistant?

It depends on how you find your virtual assistant clients, but you can make a decent wage with most VA companies (better than or comparable to the minimum wage in most states).

You can charge more if you have your own virtual assistant business and you find your own clients.

5. Micro Task Jobs

A microtask is just what it sounds like a small task that doesn’t take long to complete but can’t be automated.

Micro tasks which require a human to complete include identifying objects in a photograph or transcribing a small audio file. Or you may be asked to write a brief paragraph or update a spreadsheet with the latest prices of a series of items.

You can find these short tasks on a variety of microtask job sites, and because they often don’t take much brain power to complete, you can knock them out while doing something more pleasant (like watching TV) or in whatever brief snatches of downtime you have throughout your day.

As with any typing-from-home job, you must have a computer to work on with high-speed internet access.

Beyond that, it’s always a good idea to have access to as many programs as possible so that you can accept a wide variety of jobs. Make sure you’re familiar with and have access to the G Suite of programs (Google Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel).

How Much Can You Make Doing Micro Tasks From Home?

One of the gigs I tried when starting out was micro tasks. They do come with smaller pay, typically a few cents to a few dollars per task. But remember, these are my personal experiences, and yours could differ. Occasionally, I stumbled upon opportunities that paid substantially more than the average micro task, so there’s potential there if you keep your eyes peeled.

How Can I Learn To Type Faster?

Almost all online typing jobs from home need you to have at least 60 to 80 WPM typing speed. And to achieve that, you need a lot of practice, obviously in the correct way.

Here are the best ways to achieve a faster speed with optimum accuracy.

  • Opt For Typing Lessons : You can find several video tutorials to achieve a faster typing speed on YouTube. Besides, there are websites like KeyBr that offer free tutorials with integrated typing tests.
  • Raise The Bar : Aim for a better WPM each day during your typing practice. If you can type at a 50 WPM speed, try to achieve 55 tomorrow and at least 60 by the end of this week.
  • Play Typing Games : You can sharpen your typing ability by trying out interactive typing games such as Secret of Qwerty or Epistory .
  • Take Typing Tests : You can take typing tests on websites like Typing , Key Hero , or TypingTest to correctly analyze your typing speed and the areas to improve.

What Personal Skills Do I Need to be a Typist?

It is better if you have native-level English proficiency, as most of these jobs revolve around this language. But, you mainly need three key qualities to become efficient for online typing jobs.

  • At least 55-60 WPM typing speed with above 95% accuracy.
  • Excellent ear-hand coordination to type while listening without looking at the keyboard
  • Understanding of right spelling and grammar to achieve higher accuracy

What Equipment Do I Need?

Although you can type pretty fast on your smartphone or even on your iPad, you can’t achieve your maximum speed on those. You only get the best speed when you use a computer or a laptop.

So basically, you need a few vital things.

  • A good keyboard, preferably a mechanical one,
  • A noise-canceling headphone,
  • Foot pedal, if you want to transcribe,
  • Stable internet connectivity, preferably broadband.

Where Else Can I Find Typing Jobs?

We have already mentioned the best places to get typing jobs from home in detail. But there are a few others where you can get legit projects.

  • Contact Brands : You can directly approach global consumer brands. But always choose those brands that have larger following bases, forums, subreddits, and private message boards.
  • Become A Scopist : You will be responsible for transcribing the final trials, court proceedings, and depositions from steno reports. You can check the openings in your local courts and community centers.
  • Freelancing Sites : There are several job marketplaces like FlexJobs , Freelancer , and PeoplePerHour where you can get various online typing jobs.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
