Nothing apart from Chiranjeevi's performance. Can’t deliver justice to the original (Lucifer). Chiru sir matched the Charishma of Mohanlal but the modified script made it a little boring. Salman khan has a cameo but it’s too routine. One time watchable that too just for Chiranjeevi. Else you can skip it

GodFather movie review: Chiranjeevi-Salman Khan starrer is a satisfying watch
Godfather review: filmmaker mohan raja has packed godfather with all the elements to satisfy the core fan base of chiranjeevi and salman khan..
Owing to the dismal performance of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent movies (Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Acharya ), there was some uneasiness in the trade about GodFather. Chiranjeevi, however, expressed a lot of confidence that GodFather would end his losing streak and satisfy his fan base. And he was correct. Director Mohan Raja has packed GodFather with plenty of energetic moments to ensure there isn’t a dull moment in the narration.
GodFather is the official remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer. The film begins with the untimely death of Chief Minister PKR. His passing causes a power vacuum, creating an opening for the dubious minds in politics to make a bid for the top position. However, the power-grabbers are not aware that PKR has made arrangements, perhaps in anticipation of his sudden death, to protect his life’s work: his family and political party. The CM’s chair and family are guarded by one of the wickedest men and his name is Brahma (Chiranjeevi). As his name suggests, he creates and controls every move of everyone in this game of power.
Lucifer was in a way philosophical as its writer Murali Gopy had used big words to create the myth of Stephen Nedumpally. The Malayalam original begins with the question of who’s Stephen Nedumpally and that question sustains the entire movie to the end. Even though Lucifer was set against a political backdrop, the film gravitated more towards presenting Stephen as a mythical character. Director Mohan Raja, however, has steered clear of mystery and has turned GodFather into a full-fledged political drama.
The horse-trading, the fake public feud of politicians, the big corporations deciding the fate of the next government, the reverence that dynastic politics enjoys, and the submissive media, all are reminiscent of the current political climate. Conventionally, the protagonist has to fight the system which has been rigged by those in power in their favour. In GodFather, the director has turned the tables. The hero rigs the system for the villains to fail.
Mohan Raja has added some original twists to the narration, which were not present in Lucifer. For example, the confrontation scene between Brahma and Jaidev (Satyadev Kancharana). Jaidev gets to do all the shouting and aggressive gestures as Brahma remains calm, not reacting to any of the provocations. While Jaidev assumes a dominant position in the scene, in the end, he realises the reality. He has not got Brahma boxed in, but the opposite is true. Mohan uses clever and subtle ways to elevate Brahma’s heroism.
The scene where Brahma meets the investigative journalist, played by Puri Jagannadh, is also interesting as it’s a face-off between an idealist and a realist. For the first time, Brahma admits his limitations and reminds the idealist journalist that society can’t be changed overnight. And Brahma is okay with playing dirty if it serves a greater good.
Mohan Raja has also steered clear of unnecessary distractions in the form of parallel comedy tracks or special dance numbers. He has only kept those things that serve the main plot and within that space, he has indulged the superstardom of Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan for the amusement of their fans. In the middle of a gunfight, Salman’s Masoom Khan pushes an overturned car just with his shoulder, all the while firing a shotgun to create a safe passage for Chiranjeevi’s Brahma to get out of the car. The action scenes are too ridiculous to take them seriously. And Mohan knows it. But, he’s also aware that this kind of stunts will do the job of amusing fans.

GodFather movie review: Chiranjeevi's unmatched charisma gives this fun political thriller many whistle-worthy moments
Godfather movie review: chiranjeevi-starrer remake of lucifer is clichéd, mindless, and yet immensely enjoyable, largely due to the star’s screen presence and salman khan’s explosive cameo..
GodFather, the Telugu remake of Mohanlal’s mega hit Lucifer, is a heady concoction of clichés, crowd-pleasing moments, larger-than-life fights, and some complex plot twists. And yet, it never gets too much and remains enjoyable for most parts. You even learn to look past the silliness of it all. And it’s all because of the charisma and towering screen presence of Chiranjeevi . The boss is truly back and he has chosen the perfect vehicle, a massy masala entertainer that gets the audience cheering and whistling. Also read: GodFather Twitter reviews: Fans react to Chiranjeevi’s remake of Lucifer
GodFather is part political thriller, part mindless action film. It follows the death of a revered chief minister PKR and the infighting to choose his successor. The contenders are the amibitious home minister Narayan Varma (a delightful but slightly over Murali Sharma) and PKR’s son-in-law Jaidev (Satyadev Kancharana). But there is also the mysterious kingmaker Brahma (Chiranjeevi), who holds the reins of power in the state. What follows is a game of political cat and mouse with each politician trying to outfox the other.
GodFather follows in the footsteps of massy hits like Pushpa: The Rise and KGF: Chapter 2 from earlier this year. In some parts, it lacks the heart and finesse of a Pushpa and the grandeur of KGF. Yet, it balances the two quite well. The script falters, partly because there is a lack of one for large portions of the film. In trying to be clever, it wanders into the unintentionally funny territory at times. It is not a cerebral political thriller in the genre of a Rajneeti or Leader. It is an action film disguised as one, but disguised quite well.
The film is high on drama, lacks subtlety, and uses every cliché out there. When the hero enters, everything is in slo-mo, leaves fly, people faint. When he goes to prison, he is automatically qaidi number 786. The film screams 90s. But then that’s Chiranjeevi’s strength. He became India’s number one star in the early 90s doing many similar films. And he turns back the clock here splendidly.
GodFather works only when Chiranjeevi is on screen. Although the director’s choice to give him a grand entry ‘every’ time he walks into the frame gets old pretty fast, the veteran actor more than holds his own. He carries the film on his back, lending his stardom and screen presence to otherwise loose scenes and salvaging them. He works best when he is not kicking butt though. It is the scenes in which he very understatedly showcases his power and influence are what shine through. There are a lot of whistle-worthy moments in the film owing to Chiranjeevi’s inherent swag.
In the supporting cast, Murali Sharma and Satyadev Kancharana as the two ambitious politicians stand out. Satyadev, in particular, as the Machiavellian Jai, is a treat to watch. Murali Sharma shows just what he is capable of. It’s a pity Bollywood hasn’t truly utilized him yet. The biggest flaw of the film is to relegate Nayanthara to the background. Having an actor of her caliber and a star of her stature is a bonus to any film and yet GodFather chooses to let the men take centre stage. That she still manages to leave her mark despite a limited screen time only makes this decision even more puzzling.
And then there is Salman Khan . He has a cameo in the film that drew the loudest cheers and whistles in the theatre that I was at. In what can only be described as the most Salman role ever, he appears in an explosive role that not only adds to the film’s overall swag quotient but shows a more brutal, ruthless side of the actor that Bollywood hasn’t explored of late. The scenes with both Chiranjeevi and Salman together really light up the screen.
GodFather has its flaws, and they are countless, to be honest. But the packaging is so slick that you prefer to overlook most of them. Because I went to watch the film with lowered expectations and I did not bother comparing it to Lucifer, I was able to actually enjoy the film. If you are prepared to do the same, and watch Chiranjeevi in his element, you may too.
Director: Mohan Raja
Cast: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Satyadev Kancharana, Murali Sharma, Puri Jaggannadh, and Salman Khan.

GodFather Movie Review: Chiranjeevi turns ‘boss of bosses’ in Lucifer remake with Salman for company
Godfather, starring chiranjeevi and salman khan, is an action-packed remake of mohanlal’s lucifer. the telugu movie proves to be a treat for megastar’s fans, says our review..
Listen to Story
- GodFather features Chiranjeevi in the titular role.
- The film is directed by Mohan Raja,
- GodFather opened in theatres on October 5.
Mohanlal's Lucifer wasn't exactly a masterpiece or an example of brilliant storytelling. The narrative felt a bit cliched despite several rousing moments. Also, most of the twists were quite predictable. The film, however, proved to be a treat for Lalettan's fans as it gave the Complete Actor ample scope to showcase his abilities. The same pretty much applies to GodFather, its Telugu remake. The Chiranjeevi-led political thriller, however, is massier and more action-packed than the Malayalam version.
GodFather revolves around Brahma (Chiranjeevi), a mass leader with a mysterious past, who influences his state's political discourse despite being in 'exile'. He returns to politics following his mentor and the sitting Chief Minister PKR's death. He soon realises that the state is in political turmoil as many individuals with nefarious intentions are eager to occupy the CM's chair. As the film progresses, we learn more about his equation with Sathyapriya (Nayanthara). This sets the stage for a deadly showdown between him and his foes.
The basic storyline has pretty much everything - right from action scenes to punch dialogues - that one expects from a film headlined by a mass hero. The plot reaches its potential due to the solid packaging. Each scene manages to build an aura around Chiranjeevi's character.
GodFather opens with a series of slow yet intense scenes which establish the film's world. These sequences work as they have a sense of urgency, which makes it easier for the viewers to relate to the reel action. They do a pretty good job of setting the stage for Chiranjeevi’s massy entry. The actor’s introduction scene is subdued compared to the ones we saw in SS Rajamouli’s RRR and the Nandamuri Balakrishna-led Legend. It, however, packs a punch mainly because of Chiranjeevi’s stellar screen presence. The action scenes again do justice to the veteran actor’s ‘Boss of the Bosses’ image and come across as extremely stylish without being over-the-top.
There are a couple of twists here and there. They, however, don’t work any better than they did in Lucifer. That said, they might appeal to those who aren’t familiar with the original.
It is, however, the track involving Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara that helps GodFather soar above Lucifer. Their emotional scenes feel more organic and natural than the ones featuring Mohanlal and Manju Warrier in the original version. Short and effective punch dialogues are widely regarded as the hallmark of a Mohan Raja movie. Thani Orvan, for example, featured memorable one-liners like ‘‘I love Deals’ and ‘kill at first betrayal’, which had tremendous situation appeal. GodFather is no exception. It boasts punchlines such as ‘yeh family matter hai’ and ‘ I can’t be away from politics’, which amps up its recall value.
Coming to performances, Chiranjeevi is the heart and soul of GodFather. The veteran acts with his eyes, adding depth to each scene he appears. His intensity is personified in his scenes with his foes. The star is equally impressive in the softer sequences, which are an integral part of the narrative. His expressions in a scene where he sees his mentor’s dead body are worth their weight in gold. Nayanthara is top-notch in a role that requires her to be aggressive yet vulnerable in equal measure. Her introduction scene does justice to her standing in the industry.
Satyadev is sincere but doesn’t quite measure up to Vivek Oberoi, who played a similar character in Lucifer. That said, this is a step in the right direction for him and may pave the way for bigger films in the near future.
Murali Sharma breathes life into a character that could have been reduced to a caricaturish sidekick. His effortless performance, however, helps him stand out. Puri Jagannadh springs a surprise with his work in GodFather. While he isn’t able to hold his own against Chiranjeevi, it is refreshing to see the Liger director try something different.
It is, however, Salman Khan who proves to be GodFather’s biggest surprise package. The film does justice to his action hero image. Bhai sets the screen on fire (quite literally) in his scenes. The Tiger 3 star’s ‘main kanoon ki bhi nahi sunta’ line is a treat for those who liked his work in Wanted, a remake of Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri.
Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is up to mark even though a scene involving a ‘movie screening’ feels a bit unnecessary as it breaks the film’s flow. The rousing background score by S Thaman adds a larger-than-life feel to the hero elevation scenes. The songs, however, are a total letdown. Not one of them does justice to the standards that Thaman set for himself with his work in Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. The other technical aspects have been handled with competence.
To conclude, GodFather is a grand celebration of the brand Chiranjeevi that proves to be a treat for the veteran hero’s ardent fans.
3 out of 5 stars for GodFather. Published By: K Janani Published On: Oct 5, 2022 --- ENDS --- ALSO READ | Chiranjeevi’s GodFather title track out. New song from Mohan Raja’s film celebrates a mass leader

Godfather Movie Review: Chiranjeevi’s Fan Service Walks The Staple Path On Which Leaves Fly Every time He Lifts His Foot
Godfather is an almost three-hour-long chiranjeevi show where gravity is to be forgotten and bullets make men fly..
Star Cast: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Satyadev Kancharana, Salman Khan & ensemble.
Director: Mohan Raja
What’s Good: You have to be a Chiranjeevi fan to find the good in here because it is an almost 3-hour fan service worshipping the life of a megastar with some reasonable twists.
What’s Bad: The generic approach where leaves fly when a phenomenon of a star walks on the ground is now done to death and even the dried leaves are bored of it.
Loo Break: As said it is fan service and if you have bought a ticket you are one, so this isn’t a question you will ask.
Watch or Not?: Not with a lot of expectations but a whole lot of old-day Telugu cinema commercial masala.
Language: Telugu (with subtitles).
Available on: In Theatres Near You.
Runtime: 156 Minutes.
A very influential politician, a CM of an unnamed state is dead. Looms the question of who will now take over and the contenders play their cards. But Brahma (Chiranjeevi) knows who is real and who is greedy. How will he tackle things and make the right one win?
Godfather Movie Review: Script Analysis
The commercial Telugu cinema is a celebration of the star power that some iconic names possess and the ritualistic worshiping of it with every frame. Nothing wrong with that, it’s a cinema culture for a landscape that watches films backed by their loved names religiously. But does it mean the audience that watches those movies without being fans is fed the same material zillion times without adding some more substance?
Written by Mohan Raju with Lakshmi Bhupala and Murali Gopy, Godfather is shaped in a way that it celebrates one of South cinema’s biggest megastar, one that has defined the industry in his blooming days, Chiranjeevi. The screenplay begins by making it clear that he is a man not even the FBI can think of messing with. So when he enters the frame with his crisp ironed white kurta, some costly sunglasses, and flamboyance worth a million, you know this is the man who is supposed to win and if you know the track record, he definitely will.
Now the challenge for the makers is to create a story that does not just justify the victory of their already revered protagonist, but also one that is entertaining and worth the whistles that a ticket buyer is planning to blow. In Godfather, the makers do try to include politics of the land, people double-crossing each other, and even more to make it all so complex that the God they have created has to be on his toes to solve it. But all of it even with the biggest of the names ends up looking like a blueprint we have already seen.
Now, I don’t mean that this is an atrocious film that doesn’t deserve to be seen. I would have been flattered if I was a Chiranjeevi fan, because with every frame he is in, the celebration keeps getting louder. But all of this is not new. The man has been in the business for a lifetime and filmmakers have already worshipped him in similar ways enough. So the problem is with the staple routes. And also the idea of making all other actors underplay themselves.
One might think of finding redemption in the action. But when you know Chiranjeevi will come out of combat without even a scratch after beating some 50 men, it is just the wait for when will it end as the movie progresses. Yes, never in the more than 3 fighting sequence does the star gets even one little scratch. Not even a crease on his kurta.
Godfather Movie Review: Star Performance
Chiranjeevi by now knows he doesn’t have to do much to make people love him. They already do and now it is just about the nostalgia factor that he needs to rely upon. To create the gangster he is, the megastar keeps things subtle and lets his action speak. That works too because you at least don’t know what his next move is.
Nayanthara as Satya does as much as the script allows her to. While there is a beautiful trajectory she shares with the megastar, she is kept limited to just that without really letting her vent out her anger or any other emotion.
Satyadev Kancharana plays the villain with all the conviction and makes you hate him. And there is Salman Khan too doing the most Salman Khan he can. He enters a house full of loaded guns wearing a bulletproof jacket this time and I want to give credit to the man who suggested this amazing detail. Also, he has a bike that launches mini missiles? I saw an early morning show in an almost empty theatre, I had too much silence around to observe minute things.
Godfather Movie Review: Direction, Music
Mohan Raju is a Chiranjeevi fan and there is no doubt about that. He directs scenes in a way that every twist leads to him and makes way for a slow-motion shot, or a close-up of his glares. But he also goes overboard with the slow motion and that just adds a lot more minutes to the already long runtime.
Thaman S’ music is again a staple and it’s been a long I witnessed his real magic now. We need it soon.
Godfather Movie Review: The Last Word
Godfather is an almost three-hour-long Chiranjeevi show where gravity is to be forgotten and bullets make men fly. We have bought it for years, but there must be something new with it to take the culture ahead.

Godfather Movie Review: Tailormade Remake
Movie: Godfather Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: Mega Supergood Films, Konidela Productions Cast: Chiranjeevi, Salman Khan, Nayanthara, Puri Jagannadh, Satya Dev, Murali Sharma, Samuthirakani, Sunil and others Music: Thaman S Director of Photography: Nirva Shah Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh Action: Ram-Laxman, Anl Arsu Producer: RB Choudary and NV Prasad Directed by: Mohan Raja Release Date: October 5, 2022
Any Chiranjeevi starrer evokes curiosity. “Godfather” has created more interest as Bollywood superstar Salman Khan played a guest role. The film marks Salman Khan’s Telugu debut.
Let’s find out whether the film lives up to the expectations.
Story: When Chief Minister PKR passed away, his daughter Satya Priya (Nayanthara) and his son-in-law Jaidev (Satya Dev) decided to take the reins of the party and the government. Not aware of her husband's true nature, Satya Priya proposes Jaidev's name as the new president, which is rejected by MLAs and party men as they follow Brahma (Chiranjeevi), the stepson of the deceased CM.
Satya Priya hates Brahma and wants to keep him away from the party. Jaidev wants to buy all the MLAs with the money from a Mumbai don. The Mumbai mafia don, in return, seeks the permission to set up a drugs production company in the state when Jaidev becomes CM of the state.
How Brahma plays his game and saves his sister Satya Priya and the state from the schemes of Jaidev forms the rest of the story.
Artistes’ Performances: Megastar Chiranjeevi has played a role that suits his age and image. The appearance is also closer to his real life. Chiranjeevi is quite effective when he speaks less and does the acting with his body language. This is the first time that the megastar played a role without a female interest in the film.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in his Tollywood debut gets a raw deal. His entry into the film and his subsequent scenes look superficial.
Satyadev steps in the role played by Vivek Oberoi. Satyadev has put in his best efforts, but his role lacks evilness as Vivek showed in the original. He doesn’t pose as a strong villain to the mighty Chiranjeevi.
Nayanthara is dignified in her role. Sunil is okay. Murali Sharma shines. Puri Jagannadh as a journalist is impressive.
Technical Excellence: Nirav Shah’s cinematography is striking. Many shots in the film show his master touch. The sequences filmed on Necklace Road’s tricolor flag area are beautiful. Thaman’s music is a letdown. Lakshmi Bhupal’s dialogues are pale and normal.
Highlights: Chiranjeevi’s act and style The first half
Drawback: Weak villain The climax portions Changes to the original story
Analysis “Godfather” is the official remake of the Malayalam blockbuster “Lucifer” featuring Mohanlal. The Malayalam version is a commercial film and a blockbuster. The film was narrated in a gripping manner. It was one of the best political thrillers.
The basic storyline of “Godfather” is the same as that of “Lucifer”, but director Mohan Raja has made many changes that have diluted the impact.
Until the interval bang, the film is as gripping as the original. While certain changes worked for the image of Chiranjeevi, the other crucial changes, especially the removal of the brother’s character, have changed the course of the drama.
The protagonist is the son of the deceased chief minister and that is never explicitly told in the original movie. It is only implied with the ‘silence’ of the main character. This angle has given room for suspense in the story. In “Godfather”, at the very beginning, it is revealed that Chiranjeevi is the son of the deceased Chief Minister. So, the drama about the identity of “Lucifer” or “Brahma” goes missing. Then the arrival of the Chief Minister’s younger son is quite dramatic in "Lucifer". In the “Godfather”, the role is completely chopped off.
What “Godfather” gets right is it doesn’t spoil the spirit of the original. The first half is narrated in a gripping manner. Plus, additional sequences like adding a heroine to Chiranjeevi or songs are not incorporated. This is a major relief.
The political dialogues used by Chiranjeevi are in ok with the story, there is no forced additional political track. Puri Jagannadh’s journalist role and the sequences have also come out well.
Even after the interval, the film goes as per the story for a few sequences. But thereafter, it turned into a complete ‘Telugu commercial film’.
Satya Dev’s character lacks the evilness of Vivek Oberoi’s. In turn, Satya Dev looks like a meek person in front of Chiranjeevi, who is called the boss of the bosses. And We don’t get any high moments when Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan appear together. In the original, the same sequences filmed on Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumar provide goosebumps.
Having said that, “Godfather” is a better action drama compared to recent masala movies. When it sticks to the original, it works big time, when it deviates, it goes down. If we stop comparing it with the original, it looks interesting. However, Chiranjeevi’s charisma and his swag, and certain portions bring joy to his fans. For others, it is a strictly okay watch. It is difficult for the audience who watched 'Lucifer' to relish this film. But those who didn't watch the original may like it. This is the tailormade remake for Chiranjeevi.

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Godfather is the official remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Lucifer, starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj. The trailer of Godfather garnered a decent response. The starcast of Godfather is interesting with the very talented Nayanthara and Sathya Dev joining Chiru for this political action drama. Today, the movie was released in theaters. Here is the review.
What Is It About?
Chief Minister PK Ramadas’s (Sarvadaman Banerjee) sudden demise creates chaos in state politics. Home Minister Varma (Murli Sharma) and PKR’s son-in-law Jayadev (Sathyadev) plot on becoming the CM of the state in their ways. Brahma (Chiranjeevi) who was the right hand and great supporter of PKR stands against them both. Satya Priya (Nayanthara) hates Brahma for a reason. What is the rivalry between Sathya and Brahma? How Brahma saves the state and family from the wrong people? The answers to these questions are all about Godfather.
Performances
There is always something missing in Chiranjeevi’s roles since his comeback with Khaidi no 150. Now in Godfather, Chiru’s role appears complete and well arranged. Chiranjeevi gives a subtle performance and is precise for the role of Godfather. So far, we have seen Chiru dominating the show when he is onscreen, but with Godfather he keeps content and brings it up at the right moments.
Nayanthara performed well and is apt for the role. Her role is orderly and she did what is needed. She will be mostly passive in the first half, and her presence is better felt in the second half.
Sathyadev is a good choice for the role of Jayadev. Sathyadev is a performer and he gives his best as a baddie. The director’s choice to go for Sathyadev instead of a Bollywood villain is perfect.
Sunil, Shafi, Brahmaji, Murli Sharma and Anasuya were apt in their roles. Puri Jagannath appears in a crucial role as a gutsy investigative journalist. He is fine in his role.
Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan elevated the scenes to bigger levels with his presence. Salman’s role is brief and also not important. But Salman doing the role enthralls the masses, particularly when both of them were in one frame doing all the action parts.
Technicalities
Godfather is a political action drama. So writing is expected to be more thrilling with political and elevation punches. Godfather does not have many enticing dialogues. Most of the writing is from the original. Thaman’s background score is loud but it helped elevate many scenes. The cinematography is good. The screenplay is fine.
Chiranjeevi Sathya Dev & Nayanthara First Half
Thumbs Down
Poor Graphics Few Lengthy scenes
There were many doubts about why Chiranjeevi is keen on remaking the political action thriller Lucifer. But Godfather is an honest remake with some changes that did not spoil the essence of the original. The director Mohan Raja adapted the movie for the Telugu nativity and made it a bit more engaging.
The director kept the original plot intact with balanced elevations in regular intervals. There are a few twists that thrill the audience and there are some stretchy scenes as well. The first half engages with the smooth run and characters scheming against each other. Salman Khan’s appearance during the interval gives a high
We have seen the political ploy with MLAs shifting bases. Godfather also has similar episodes but the story slowly starts focusing on the confrontation between the protagonist and the antagonist in the second half. Some prison episodes and action sequences entertain the masses.
The latter part of the second half takes the route of routine mass drama with a kidnap rescue episode. The climax part is not any different from the usual fight sequence with lots of guns and bullets.
An item song followed by a rain of bullets, spilling blood, and fire in slow motion leaves us a feeling of action dominating the mature thrill that the movie so far carried. The fans might be missing Chiru getting into a muscle fight in the end, but Salman does that for him to keep the Godfather’s weightage.
Overall, Godfather is a neat remake with relevant changes. For those who already watched Lucifer, Godfather will be a decent remake, and for those who have not watched the original, this will be an entertaining watch.
Bottomline: Boss Is Back
Rating: 3/5

Post the debacle of Acharya, Chiranjeevi has taken a safe route and has remade a Malayalam hit Lucifer. Titled Godfather, this film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
The film starts with the death of a state CM. This leaves the key post open and in line to take over as the CM are Jai(Satyadev) and Satya(Nayanthara) the son in law and daughter of the late CM. But in comes one more power house in the party, Brahma(Chiranjeevi) to stop all this from happening. The rest of the story is about the cat and mouse game of who becomes the CM of the state finally.
Plus Points:
Godfather is the official remake of the Malayalam hit Lucifer but director Mohan Raja has made good changes to suit the sensibilities of the Telugu audience. Mohan Raja has stayed true to the story and narrated the film in an engaging manner.
The manner in which he has showcased Chiranjeevi is superb. All these years, we have seen Chiranjeevi in highly energetic roles but here in Godfather, he plays a mature politician and is very good. Chiranjeevi does not have many dialogues but he emotes superbly through his eyes. Though he does not dance or evoke comedy, his screen presence and settled performance will be loved by his fans.
Nayanthara plays a key role and brings a lot of depth to the film. But if there is one actor who steals the show it is none other than young hero Satyadev. He surprises you with his evil act and is a perfect enemy for Chiranjeevi. The manner in which Satyadev goes about his role is convincing and he impresses big time.
Murali Sharma gets a key role and he was impressive. The first half is filled with well written political moments which are well executed. Brahmaji, Sunil, Samutrakani do well in their roles.
The film has some really well written scenes. The jail episode between Chiranjeevi and Satyadev is executed superbly even though the megastar does not utter one dialogue.
Last but not the least, Salman Khan’s entry is perfectly timed into the narrative and gives the required mass moments for the fans. The climax fight, song and slow motion shots of Salman and Chiranjeevi are solid and end the film on a high.
Mini Points:
Lucifer had a very engaging drama and when compared to it, things are a bit low in Godfather. The second half becomes slow as there is not much story to showcase. That is the reason a song breaks out at the pre-climax time.
Also, Chiranjeevi looks a bit stiff in a few scenes during the end of the movie. The emotions in the second could have been more stronger. Salman Khan’s role looks fancy but is not justified properly by the end.
Also, the proceedings are a bit predictable. Though Satyadev is good, some more padding should have been given to him to enhance the villain angle in the film.
Technical Aspects:
Thaman is one more asset of the film as his BGM elevates the proceedings big time. The production design is very good and the colour tone used by the cameraman to showcase the political setup is amazing. Dialogues are decent and so was the editing part.
Coming to the director Mohan Raja, he is known as the remake specialist and he has done an impressive job with the film. He uses Chiranjeevi’s grace superbly and lets his eyes emote. The changes he makes or the mass elements he has added with Salman are good.
The best part of the film is that Mohan Raja does not force any over the top scenes or comedy and narrates the political thriller in a proper way. When you think the film is getting simple towards the end, he brings in Salman and ends the film on a high.
On the whole, Godfather is an impressive political thriller narrated in a sensible manner. A new age and mature Chiranjeevi, solid performance by Satyadev and Nayanthara and a fun cameo by Salman Khan are basic assets of the film. When compared to the original Lucifer, drama is missing a bit but that does not stop the fans and masses having a fun ride this Dussehra as the boss is back.

GodFather movie review: Chiranjeevi-starrer is a mediocre remake plus a VFX-heavy Salman Khan
Chiranjeevi’s latest film GodFather is a loyal remake of the Malayalam film Lucifer that had superstar Mohanlal play the lead role. It works in parts because of this very reason and is unintentionally funny at places as well.
Language: Telugu
Cast: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Satyadev, Salman Khan
Director: Mohan Raja
Star rating: 2.5/5
There hasn’t been much of a buzz this week among Telugu film audience regarding Chiranjeevi’s GodFather . There had been high anticipation surrounding the project when it had been announced, but the excitement died down — slowly but surely. After Acharya and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy , fans are hesitant to really put their trust in a film. So with this context in mind, GodFather is not a very bad film. It is just a lot close to the original, and if you are one of the people that has seen Lucifer , GodFather might very well turn out to be a snooze fest. If not, this is a film that would reintroduce you to Chiranjeevi, the star who won hearts with his well-intentioned film.
As well-meaning illegitimate son, Brahma Teja ( Chiranjeevi ) prefers to stay away from the spotlight. His biggest duty is to ensure that his father has all the monetary support that he requires to run a political party without intervention from corporate conglomerates within the country. Now, the idea of an illegimate son making all the moves in a political party through his father is intriguing, but GodFather doesn’t take any risks to make the film flashy, or entertaining. They introduce this grand criminal Abdul Qureshi, one that has been on the run from the Interpol, but why is he so great? What about him has even the Interpol in awe of him? Answers to such questions are not something that you should look forward to.
What the filmmakers have really done to make Brahma the most interesting and powerful within this universe, is to make him unbeatable. They pit Brahma against his corrupt and power-hungry brother-in-law, Jaidev Das (Satyadev). One of the biggest surprises of this film really is Satyadev as the villain. Not only does the actor hold his own opposite Chiranjeevi, but he also excels at portraying a character that is extremely hateful.
The unfortunate part really is that Jaidev has no back story whatsoever. He keeps repeating that his aim in life is to become a Chief Minister. He claims to have fooled Sathya, his wife and her family into accepting him. He is proud of having made it this far, but the question until the very end remains, why? GodFather is bland in the way it treats its main characters. Not only does it refuse to ground them in reality, it further alienates audiences by introducing dialogues that are more comical than emotional.
Take for instance, this dialogue “Peanuts are good for poverty, not politics.” This is just scratching the surface of the film’s intriguing dialogues. While this is on one side, there is Puri Jagannadh ’s cameo on the other. The director who has been trolled online for his most recent film — Liger — starring Vijay Deverakonda , takes on the role of the fourth pillar of democracy: the media. It is ironic really. However, if there has been one sequence that truly belong in this film, it is the conversation between Puri’s character Govardhan and Brahma. This repartee is entertaining, especially after long moments of tedious plot development.
You pack all of this up, you have a bland, uninteresting but not a terrible film. The kick comes with Salman Khan ’s appearance though. The first question that comes to mind is — when has the audience ever seen Salman Khan play a second fiddle? For the sake of almighty, he drives a bike that can shoot as if a bazooka was fitted into it. The VFX, to be honest, is really terrible in these scenes, but what really captures our attention is how Salman’s character Masoom Bhai sets the stage for Brahma’s takeover in the film.
Prithviraj Sukumaran , who also directed Lucifer in Malayalam had appeared in this extended cameo. In GodFather , Salman Khan has taken up the role, and has played it with candour. However, it only distracts audience for very little time. The snail pace of the film, the mightier-than-thou treatment that Brahama gets, and the missing pieces of information regarding some of the main characters have made GodFather a disappointing film for me.
What is actually surprising is the fact that the film is directed by Mohan Raja. This man became well-known in the Tamil Film industry for churning out one remake after another, and really successful ones at that. However, the magic touch seems to be missing in GodFather . It is certainly not a movie that would put you to sleep, however, it is neither one that would illicit excitement either.

God Father 2022 : What's Behind
Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Godfather is releasing Dasara to take full advantage of the festive season. Since the film is the remake of the Malayalam hit, Mohan Lal's Lucifer, the film is carrying low buzz. But the makers promoted the film as a completely different and novel one and the presence of Bollywood star Salman Khan is exciting all. The film's OTT rights have been bagged for a fancy sum by Netflix and the OTT streaming will be done after the completion of its theatrical run. Let us see whether Godfather set the screens on fire with the presence of Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan.
GodFather 2022 :Story Review
Godfather is all about the political bickerings following the demise of the Chief Minister of the state. The state is plunged into political turmoil with the demise of Chief Minister PKR. This leads to power struggles among the family members, party leaders, and also opposition parties. Who will emerge victor among CM's son-in-law Jaidev (Satyadev Kancharana), daughter Sathyapriya Jaidev (Nayanthara) and where this will lead to, and what is the connection of Brahma (Chiranjeevi) who wields significant clout as the Godfather and his relationship with Masoom Bhai (Salman Khan) form the crux of the story.
Artists, Technicians Review
The Godfather story of Mohan Raja stayed true to the original Malayalam version of Lucifer. He however made a few changes to elevate the heroism of Chiranjeevi and as the film also stars Salman Khan, few more changes have been made. Right from the start, the narration is gripping and Mohan Raja made it interesting with his screenplay and direction. He got the optimum from all the stars and the entry of Salman Khan increases the excitement. This sets the tone for the interesting second half.
Mohan Raja continued in the same vein in the second half and when everything is going smoothly, the pre-climax and climax turned out to be childish. Everything hit a downside and even the VFX turned the entire Salman Khan and Chiranjeevi action sequences into video games. Dialogues are power and made and impact. They are hard-hitting and to the point to the core.
Chiranjeevi sported a new salt and pepper look for his role as Godfather. As viewers are not used to watching him in this look, it takes time for them to get adjusted to his look. He performed in a cool and composed manner carrying the film on his shoulders. He showed the right kind of expressions and emotions and made an impact with his screen presence. Chiranjeevi this time did not do the regular mass role and he refrained himself indulging in romance, dancing to romantic songs, etc. It seems for the first time in his career, there is no heroine for Chiranjeevi.
Nayanthara made it count with her performance. She got only a few scenes in the first half but she made an impact with her screen presence in the second half. Her scenes with chiranjeevi took the film to next level. Satyadev showed his acting talent and shone even in the presence of big stars like Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, and Salman Khan. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's entry excites all. Though he elevated the scenes along with Chiranjeevi, all of them looked forced and impacted the film's flow. Brahmaji, Samuthirakhani,Anasuya, Murali Sharma and Sunil got good screen presence and did their roles well. Puri Jagannath appeared in the important role of a journalist.
Thaman got the golden opportunity to score music for Chiranjeevi for the first time in his career. But he failed to make the optimum use of it. None of the songs are attractive and appealing. Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan's song entertain masses but it came at the wrong time. He tried to compensate for it with his background music. His background music elevated the scenes but at times it turned loud. Nirav Shah's cinematography gave a rich feel to the film with grand visuals. Marthand K Venkatesh left a lot to be desired in the second half. The climax turned out to be the weak link of the film. Production values are good.
GodFather 2022 : Advantages
- Chiranjeevi presence
- Salman Khan's cameo
- Nayanthara, Satyadev's performances
GodFather 2022 : Disadvantages
- Scenes in the second half
GodFather 2022 :Rating Analysis
Remaking the blockbuster of other languages is always a tough task. Mohan Raja who took the responsibility of remaking Lucifer with Chiranjeevi as Godfather, for most of the part emerged successful in staying true to the original. Even the subtle changes made to the original version added value to the remake. Both Chiranjeevi and Mohan Raja should be complimented for not going over the board to include mass, commercial elements. Salman Khan's entry also was perfectly placed. But Mohan Raja's screenplay and direction went for a toss during the pre-climax and climax with the action blocks between Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan. The hurried and rushed climax undid all the good work. With better screenplay, and writing, Godfather would have become even more powerful. Altogether Godfather is an interesting political thriller. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 3 rating for Godfather.

However, GodFather is still not a perfect film as it has its share of flaws as well. Even though the screenplay keeps you intrigued, the runtime of GodFather could have been shortened to make it crispier. The slow-motioned walking scenes of Chiranjeevi and certain stellar moments lose a bit of impact due to the cinematography, which makes GodFather seem like an early 2000s film.
