Ariyavan -  Instils courage in women to fight against sexual exploitation

Mithran R Jawahar is on a career high after his recent film 'Thiruchitrambalam' starring Dhanush and Nithya Menon hit box office gold.   'Ariyavan' was directed by him before that and is now hitting the screens on March 3rd.  Will this attempt to create awareness about sexual exploitation and violence on women find its takers remains to be seen.

Duraipandi (Daniel Balaji) leads a gang of young men who befriend women of different classes under the guise of love and get intimate with them.  Later they blackmail them with sex tapes shot with hidden cameras and force them into prostitution.   A young Kabbadi player Jeeva (Ishaun) is in love with Nethra  (Prranali) and when her roommate Jessie becomes a victim of the gang he gets into a fight with her predator and cuts off his hand. The pervert happens to be the younger brother of Duraipandi who unleashes his gang to not only finish off Jeeva but also the other women who are under his control.  How Jeeva saves  himself and the twenty odd women is what 'Ariyavan' is all about. 

Ishaan is tall and well built and easily convinces the audience that he is a Kabaddi player.  He has excelled in the fight scenes leaving no doubt in the audience's minds that he can bash up the more than half a dozen goons with his martial arts skills.  Prranali as the female lead has also impressed with her acting and in the song sequences.  Daniel Balaji has performed his villain character within the template as there are no challenges in his characterization.  Sathyan appears on screen after a long time but unfortunately his comedy does not click.   Rama as the hero's mother, Super Good Subramani as his uncle and Nishma Chengappa as Jessie have done neat jobs.  

What works best in 'Ariyavan' is its core message that women need not despair if a video comes out as it's not their shame but the one who made it without their knowledge.  The idea of bringing all the victims together in the fight against the perverted antagonist is interesting.  

On the downside the subject has been treated in a matter of fact manner and there is no depth in underlining its messages as well.  The climax seems abrupt and not much effort has been put up in extracting affecting performances from the cast or from the technical crew.

The technical aspects including James Vasanthan's music after a long gap are just okayish.  MGP Mass Media Private Limited has bankrolled the project focussing on the message.  Mithran R Jawahar is credited as the director of the film.  

Verdict : Go for it for the much needed female centric message

Ariyavan review: A male revenge fantasy on sexual violence with hollow sentiments

Ariyavan . Here is yet another Kollywood male revenge-fantasy centering on sexual violence against women. But even this prior knowledge doesn’t prepare you for the triggering, infuriating experience of watching the film. Debutant Ishaaon plays Jeeva – just your average, kabaddi-playing, bad-guy bashing, cringefully romancing Tamil cinema hero, until a sickening plot twist strikes. His girlfriend Nethra’s (Pranali Ghoghare) best friend, Jessi (Nishma Chengappa) is being blackmailed into sex work. The blackmailer is a man Jessi loves and has had consensual sex with in the past. But he films her secretly, in order to coerce her later. What’s worse, this man, Appu, is part of a racket led by his brother, Durairaj (Daniel Balaji). Durairaj has made it a business, in his own words, of using his men to cultivate relationships with young women so they can eventually be forced into sex work. 

Jeeva takes it upon himself to save Jessi and the other women being exploited by Durairaj. Intercut a few mind-numbing songs in exotic locations. The body counts rise. Sexual assault and gendered violence is displayed graphically against the backdrop of the agonised screams of women characters. Revenge is finally taken, as bloodily as conceivable. Yet another Kollywood director is satisfied that he has delivered a ‘message padam’ about a social justice issue. 

Helming this misguided endeavour is Ishaaon, who attempts a simmering swagger and righteous rage. He comes off sounding more like that annoying relative who will lecture you at any whiff of an opportunity. Pranali is part Kollywood “loosu-ponnu”, part lost damsel looking to the hero for every decision she has to make. Her emotional reactions to every incident is stunningly unconvincing. Nisham as Jessi manages to be believable, and with a better script may have even given us a more memorable character. Daniel Balaji is, well… Daniel Balaji. His villains are becoming hard to tell apart. He exudes a certain kind of aloof machismo now in most of his roles, a lock of hair falling onto his face as he says and does horrible things. It’s hard to remember the actor as he was long ago, in Vada Chennai for example. 

The songs, completely dissociated with the events of the story, more often than not, are best left uncommented on. 

There is some controversy regarding who the director of this dismal film is. The studio and the opening credits claim it is Mithran R Jawahar of Thiruchitrambalam-fame. Mithrin has, however, reportedly denied any association with the film. The studio has, also reportedly, countered these claims. It’s all very confusing. Regardless of who the director is, making women sit through the graphic enactment of sexual and gender-based violence is a terrible idea. 

Ariyavan is exhausting, enraging, and ultimately pointless. We are given a male hero. He automatically, in Kollywood style, becomes ‘anna’ (elder brother) to the survivors. Until he gives them a rousing speech, shaming the women as “cowards”, they have little agency. This saviour-anna then drives them towards vengeance, which is accomplished as ‘Aigiri Nandini’ — a Hindu hymn on Durga’s slaying of Mahishasura — blasts across the theatre. How many of these women make it to the end of the movie, or how many are abused again for the sake of a plot twist matters little to the director. I can only construe that the sexual violence in the film was just a topic to sell tickets, while women’s bodies are violated and murdered for entertainment. There appears to be little genuine concern about the issue. 

So I want to ask the makers of Ariyavan some questions. Do you really think some insipid hero can be the reason survivors come forward to demand justice in real life? Do you think it helps any of us to sit through dramatisations of the kind of violence we live in dread of? Give us films on structural failures. Give us films on the failure of men. Stop presuming it is enough to lecture, shame, and goad us, only to offer bloody revenge wrapped in religious fanfare. What are the filmmakers trying to say? That women need to be vengeful goddesses before we are allowed to be human? Why does revenge have to happen to chants of a Hindu hymn? So the rest of us, who aren’t Hindu, don’t deserve justice? What does religion have to do with justice?

If male filmmakers want to write screenplays on sexual violence, then make movies that speak to other men. Don’t taunt us and lecture us. Don’t tell survivors what they “need” to do. Tell men how to behave, instead. Shame the men who make a survivor’s too-often lonely fight for justice even more gruelling. The men who say “she is just doing it for attention”, “what about the man’s career?”, “why are you talking about it after so long?” or the sundry other hot takes that are on offer every time a woman speaks up. If you think that won’t work box-office magic, then at least resist the urge to make movies like Ariyavan . Regular ‘masala’ movies seem to be doing quite well by the looks of it?

Ariyavan Movie Review

Tamil cinema has a history of doling out revenge dramas that have male heroes serving justice of their choice to the victims or survivors of sexual exploitation. The latest addition to that long history is Ariyavan. The film is about a Kabbadi player who undertakes a vigilante mission to rescue and avenge in behalf of women that are subjected to sexual violence by a notorious mafia. Director Mithran R Jawahar has directed the flick. Writer Maariselvan Su has penned the story of the movie. Actors Ishaaon, and Pranali Ghogare have played the lead roles. Actor Daniel Balaji has essayed a pivotal part in the drama. So, how has the action film Ariyavan come out? Will it be a successful film for actors Ishaaon, Pranali Ghogare, and be a memorable movie in the career of director Mithran R Jawahar? To know that let us get into the movie review.

The film follows the life of Jeeva (Ishaaon), a purposeless belligerent young man who claims to be an aspiring Kabbadi player. However, he does not follow that with any dedication. But yep, he has romance in life. That is mandatory you see. He is in a relationship with Nethra (Pranali Ghogare). Things move smoothly until Nethra’s friend Jessi (Nishma Chengappa) lands in a vicious trap set by her nefarious boyfriend Appu, who has videotaped an intimate moment that the couple shared with the intention to coerce her into sex trade. He begins to blackmail her with the video. Jeeva comes to know of this, and is infuriated by it. He takes it upon himself to get justice for Jessi, and chops off Appu’s hand. 

As he sets up on his quest to take down Appu, he learns that he is not a random perverted guy. And that he is part of a nexus run by his brother Duraipandi (Daniel Balaji), who has built a business out of getting young men to lure women in the guise of relationship. Tape their intimate moment, blackmail, and push them into sex trade. Learning about what happened to his brother, Duraipandi sends a bunch of his henchmen to kill Jeeva, and those who he holds dear. Will Jeeva be able to safeguard his loved ones, will he withstand the attack from Duraipandi, and put an end to Duraipandi’s sex trafficking ring, is what makes the rest of the flick. 

From the precis of Ariyavan what one could infer is that director Mithran R Jawahar’s aim is to construct a strong message to encourage women who are victims of sexual violence to be brave, and come out and take on their perpetrators. Sadly, what unfolds on screen is in no way even closer to this. A subject such as this needs to be approached with a sense of sensitivity. But the treatment is foolhardy and cursory. One other baffling factor is that while atrocities are being unleashed on women the lead pair blissfully go on to their dream location to live out a duet. Then return at their leisure to save people. 

Ariyavan fizzles out even before it gets to the fight against bad guys. One of the many reasons being, none of the characters in the plot have a proper characterization. They are as shallow as it can get. To top it all, there are graphically presented gruesome violent acts on victims with their agonizing shriek, and as retaliation the lead character goes on a slaughter spree, until finally the director is convinced that justice is done. Then we head to the climax. By this time, if at all we are awake, and still have at least a fractional attention on the screen, all we get is a slap in the face waking us to reality, asking us to pull ourselves out of misery and head home. 

Almost every actor in the movie looks absolutely clueless about what they have signed up for. Actor Ishaaon seems desperate, and tries hard to make an impact as a performer. But he just comes across as a kid in a school level fancy-dress competition trying to look different than the rest of the contenders. Actress Pranali Ghogare’s character does not have much to move the plot. The sad aspect of it is that the actress finds it incredibly difficult to perform even in a next to nothing part. It is heartbreaking to witness such a performer like Daniel Balaji struggle on screen. Not even one of comedian Sathyan’s jokes land well. Literally. Actors Supergood Subramani, Rama, Ravi Venkatraman, Kalki Raja, and Nishma Chengappa achieve the contrary effect to why they were brought on board. The rest of the cast has delivered a middling performance. 

On the technical front, music directors James Vasanthan, Ved Shankar, and Giri Nandh’s tracks are uninspiring, and do not last in our memory for long. Even their background music is just the archetypal blaring score. Cinematographer K S Vishnu Shri ’s camera work has a repulsive effect on us making things as difficult as possible to sit through the drama . Editor M Thiyagarajan has done a lethargic job. Perhaps, he thought this scale of work is sufficient for a flick like Ariyavan.  

On the whole, director Mithran R Jawahar’s Ariyavan is a mediocre revenge drama that ends up being a great yawn fest.

Ariyavan Movie Review: ரிவெஞ்ச் த்ரில்லரா... விழிப்புணர்வு படமா... அரியவன் படத்தின் முழு விமர்சனம் இதோ..!

பெண்களுக்கு மட்டுமன்றி மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் பாலியல் வன்கொடுமை குறித்து விழிப்புணர்வு ஏற்படுத்தும் நோக்கில் எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ள அரியவன் படம் தன் கடமையை சரியாக செய்ததா அல்லது சொதப்பியதா? வாங்க பார்க்கலாம்.

கதையின் கரு:

பெண்களை காதல் வலையில் விழவைத்து ஏமாற்றி அவர்களை பாலியல் வன்கொடுமை செய்து வருகிறது டேனியல் பாலாஜியின் (துறைப்பாண்டி)தலைமையில் இயங்கும் கும்பல். வன்கொடுமை செய்வது மட்டுமன்றி, அதை வீடியோ ரெக்காரட் செய்து, “நாங்கள் கைக்காட்டும் ஆட்களுக்கு அடிபணியவில்லை என்றால் இதை சமூக வலைதளங்களில் வெளியிடுவோம்” என அப்பாவி பெண்களை மிரட்டவும் செய்கின்றனர். இப்படித்தான் ஆரம்பக்கிறது, அரியவன் திரைப்படம். 

ஆரம்ப காட்சிகளிலேயே திறமை மற்றும் துணிச்சல் மிக்க கபடி போட்டியாளராக களமிறங்குகிறார் ஜீவா (இஷோன்) என்ற இளைஞர். இவர் உருகி உருகி காதலிக்கும் பெண்ணாக வருகிறார், மித்ரா (பிரணாளி). மித்ராவின் தோழி ஜெஸ்ஸி, டேனியல் பாலாஜியின் மிரட்டல் கும்பலில் சிக்கிக்கொண்ட பெண்களுள் ஒருவர். இவரைக் காப்பற்றப் போகும் நாயகன் ஜீவாவும் நாயகி மித்ராவும் வில்லன் கும்பலுக்கு வில்லனாக மாறுகின்றனர். அந்த சண்டையில், டேனியல் பாலாஜியின் தம்பி, பப்புவின் கைகளை வெட்டி விடுகிறார், கதையின் நாயகன் ஜீவா. இதனால், தம்பியின் கையை வெட்டியவனை பழி வாங்கியே தீர வேண்டும் என முடிவெடுக்கிறார். அதன் பிறகு என்ன நடந்தது? வில்லனின் பழிவாங்கலில் இருந்து ஹீரோ தப்பித்தாரா? அந்தக் கும்பலிடம் மாட்டிய பெண்களின் கதி என்ன? போன்ற கேள்விகளுக்கு விடையாக வருகிறது மீதி கதை. 

ரிவெஞ்ச் த்ரில்லரா? விழிப்புணர்வு படமா?

பாதி படம் வரை, பெண்களுக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்களைப் பற்றி பெரிதும் பேசாத அரியவன் திரைக்கதை இடைவேளைக்குப் பிறகு, ரிவெஞ்ச் த்ரில்லராகவும் விழிப்புணர்வு படமாகவும் மாறி மாறி பயணிக்கிறது. “பெண்களுக்கு எதிரான குற்றங்கள் நடப்பதற்கு பெண்கள்தான் காரணம்” என்ற கருத்தை முன்னிறுத்தி பல படங்கள் வெளிவருவதற்கு மத்தியில், “உங்களை ஒருவன் வீடியோ எடுத்து மிரட்டுகிறான் என்றால், தவறு உங்களுடையது இல்லை அவனுடையது” என்று கூறும் அரியவன் போன்ற படங்களை பார்ப்பது அரிதுதான். இருந்தாலும் சொல்லவந்த கருத்தை இன்னும் தெளிவாகக் கூறியிருந்தால் படம் பலராலும் கவனிக்கப்பட்டிருக்குமோ என்ற எண்ணம் தோன்றுகிறது. 

கதாப்பாத்திரங்களின் பங்களிப்பு:

கொடூர வில்லனாக வரும் டேனியல் பாலாஜி தனக்கு கொடுத்த ரோலை கனக்கச்சிதமாக செய்து கொடுத்துள்ளார். அதிலும் முகத்தை இறுக்கமாக வைத்துக்கொண்டு மெனக்கெடாமல் வில்லத்தனமாக பேசும் டயலாக்குகளில் தான் ஒரு தேர்ந்த நடிகர் என்பதை நிரூபிக்கிறார். அவரைத் தவிர நன்றாக நடிப்பது என்றால், ஹீரோவின் அம்மாவாக வரும் நடிகை ரமா மட்டும்தான். இப்படம் முழுக்க முழுக்க புதுமுகங்களை வைத்து மட்டுமே சுழல்வதால், எந்த இடத்திலும் படம் பார்த்த உணர்வே வரவில்லை. ஏதோ பெரிய திரையில் மெகா சீரியல் பார்ப்பது போன்ற எண்ணத்தில்தான் ரசிகர்கள் படத்தை பார்க்கின்றனர்.

ஹீரோவின் நண்பராக வரும் நடிகர் சத்யனை காமெடிக்காக மட்டும் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டுள்ளனர். நாயகி பேசும், “என்ன ஜீவா இது..என்னடி இது..” போன்ற டயலாக்குகள் எரிச்சலூட்டுகின்றன. 

தனது முதல் படத்திலேயே ஹீரோவாகக் களமிறங்கியுள்ள இஷோன், நடிப்பில் நிறைய ட்ரெய்னிங் எடுக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது. சீரியசான சண்டைக் காட்சிகளிலும் சரி, ஹீரோயினுடன் டூயட் பாடும் காதல் காட்சிகளிலும் சரி கொஞ்சம் கூட உடல் மொழியை உபயோகிக்க முயற்சிக்கவில்லை நம்ம ஹீரோ. குறிப்பாக, சண்டைக் காட்சிகளில் உடலை வளைக்காமல் கை கால்களை மட்டும் அசைத்து சண்டை போடுவது சிரிப்பை வரவழைக்கிறது.

தெறிக்கவிடும் பின்னணி இசை:

சுப்பிரமணியபுரம், ஈசன், பசங்க போன்ற படங்களில் ‘நச்’சென பாடல்களுக்கு மெட்டு போட்டு கொடுத்த ஜேம்ஸ் வசந்தன், அரியவன் படத்தில் அதைக்கொடுக்க தவறி இருக்கிறார். காதல் பாடல்கள் அனைத்தும் படத்தில் இடைச்செறுகல்களாகவே உள்ளன. சண்டைக் காட்சிகளில் மட்டும் பின்னணி இசை ஜெயித்திருக்கிறது. மற்றபடி, இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் மெனக்கெட்டு மற்ற சீன்களுக்கு இசையமைத்திருக்கலாமோ..என்ற கேள்வியை நமது மனங்களில் விதைக்கிறார் ஜேம்ஸ். 

தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தாத க்ளைமேக்ஸ்:

சமீப காலமாக பெண்களுக்கு எதிரான கொடுமைகள் குறித்து அதிகமான படங்கள் எடுக்கப்படுவதாலோ என்னவோ, அரியவன் படமும் பத்தோடு பதினொன்றாக கடந்து விடுகிறது. படத்தில் உபயோகித்திருந்த வசனங்களையும் அவர்களுக்கு எதிராக நடக்கும் கொடுமைகளை சட்ட ரீதியாக எப்படி அணுகுவது என்ற புரிதலையும் ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்தால், படம் இன்னும் பேசப்பட்டிருக்கும். பெண்கள் பயத்தை துறந்தால் அசுரனாக இருந்தாலும் அவனை அழித்து விடுவார்கள் என்ற கருத்து பாராட்டுதலுக்கு உரியது. இருந்தாலும், க்ளைமேக்சில் அந்த “ஐகிரி நந்தினி” பாடல் கொஞ்சம் ஓவர்தான். 

மொத்தத்தில் அரியவன் திரைப்படம் தான் சொல்ல வந்த கருத்தை தெளிவாகக் கடத்தத் தவறிவிட்டது.

Ariyavan Movie Review: A fractured storyline with forgotten fundamentals 

Rating: ( 1 / 5).

The antagonist played by Daniel Balaji runs a racket through which girls are duped under the guise of love and later misused. At one point in Ariyavan , he says, "Women are merely business, money, and products for me." Well, the makers of this confused film, which starts from its direction credits, didn't seem to have more noble intentions. They try to use women-centric issues as a tool to make a 'socially-conscious' film. But Ariyavan comes across as a cropper when trying to discuss these pertinent issues dealing with one gender.

Director: Mithran R Jawahar Starring:  Ishaaon, Prranali, Daniel Balaji, Sathyan, and others Ariyavan follows the template design needed for a message film that is infused with commercial aspects. It would probably tick all the checklist on list of top masala film producers, at least on paper. But do these elements add up to a wholesome and cohesive story? Well, the answer is sadly a big no.

The story revolves around how the previously mentioned  racket targets innocent women, lures them using love, but finally blackmails them with their intimate videos and extracts non-consensual favours. For a film that deals with such a serious topic like this, it is essential that the tone is set within the first 20 minutes. However, Ariyavan chooses to indulge itself in de trop elements for a major time. The first scene shows a woman getting gang-raped in a car parked in a deserted location, aided by the man whom she had just spent an intimate moment with. Shockingly enough, a romantic score is played in the background just before this tragedy is unveiled on the screen. Cut to, we see the typical 'hero' introduction of Jeeva (Ishaaon) who is obviously a  kabaddi player just to flex his muscles and this is followed by Sathyan 's unfunny attempt at humour and finally we get the typical trope of an orphan heroine (Prranali) who miraculously rich enough to look after all the children in an orphanage. Oh we also get romance numbers set in drastically extreme terrains, it is either snow-capped mountains or Jaipur palaces. 

Ariyavan is a film that lacks finesse in every aspect of filmmaking, aside from the issues in its writing. The background score, especially is jarring, and the customary Aigiri Nandini is thrown in for the ultimate revenge scene of the affected women. A little effort from the music department would have been nice. And in terms of writing, the film barely gives space to explore the heinous racket network. What we get instead is just flashes of lifeless montages.  Ariyavan also suffers from the lack of a female voice and perspective in a story that primarily deals with what women go through in society. The scene where the hero gives a motivating speech to a group of women is particularly bizarre given the venue is a hospital and the women have hardly got out of the trauma triggered by the abuse. Despite the elaborate display of the abuses we barely empathise for the survivors as it is far from realism. 

Though the survivors in the story get their redemption towards the very end, nothing could salvage this film that does not have its heart in its right place.

Filmmaker Mithran R Jawahar, who has delivered groovy entertainers like Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Uthamaputhiran, Kutty, Thiruchitrambalam and a few more movies, has directed this film ‘Ariyavan’ that has newcomer Ishaan, Pranaali Kokre and Daniel Balaji in the lead roles. In the recent times, we are coming across a slew of movies based on violence and harassment against women, and some solution on how to handle them efficiently. Ariyavan is yet another addition to this league of movies.

The film is about a Kabbadi player (Ishaan), who is in relationship with a girl (Pranaali), whose close friend is threatened by her boyfriend with a video clip of hers. Ishaan takes him for a task, and is exposed to a shocking fact that many women are being threatened with a similar situation by his group that is headed by Daniel Balaji. When both the good and bad clash, what happens next is narrated with a predictable storyline.

Ishaan looks promising as an action hero, but when it comes to expressing emotions in different situations, he remains the same. It would be better if he can focus in performances as well. Pranaali looks cute, but then her characterization is limited only to the routine girls, helping their hero boyfriend to tackle the odds. Daniel Balaji as usual delivers a similar styled performance.

The film’s technical aspects are just okay, and the screenplay looks too predictable. There are a couple of appreciable factors: The first one being the running length that is less than 2 hours, and the climax, where the hero doesn’t get into the combat with baddies, but lets the women do it.

The film owns a regular plot, and the director, writer and the entire team of actors and technicians had tried to make some betterments in the script, it would have been appreciable. And for now, Ariyavan is a middling fare.

Verdict: Cliched story, stereotyped characters and predictable narrative makes it an average fare.

தனுஷ் நடித்த “யாரடி நீ மோகினி, குட்டி, உத்தமபுத்திரன், திருச்சிற்றம்பலம்” மற்றும் புதுமுகங்கள் நடித்த 'மீண்டும் ஒரு காதல் கதை” ஆகிய படங்களை இயக்கிய மித்ரன் ஆர் ஜவஹர் தான் இந்தப் படத்தை இயக்கியிருக்கிறார் என தயாரிப்பாளர் சொல்கிறார். ஆனால், இந்தப் படம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட எந்த புரமோஷன்களிலும் இயக்குனர் கலந்து கொள்ளவில்லை. இருந்தாலும் இன்று வரை மித்ரன் ஜவஹர் இயக்கியிருக்கும் படம் என்றே விளம்பரப்படுத்தி வருகிறார்கள். இஷான், ஒரு கபடி விளையாட்டு வீரர். அவருக்கு பிரனாலி கோக்ரே என்ற காதலி இருக்கிறார். பிரனாலியின் தோழி ஒருவரை அவரது காதலன் ஆபாச வீடியோ எடுத்து வைத்து மிரட்டுகிறார். அது பற்றி தெரிய வந்ததும் அந்த காதலனையும், அவனது கும்பலையும் பற்றி விசாரிக்கிறார் இஷான். அவர்களிடமிருந்து மேலும் பல பெண்களின் வீடியோக்களைக் கைப்பற்றுகிறார். அந்த கும்பலின் பின்னணியில் தலைவனாக இருக்கும் டேனியல் பாலாஜி, இஷான் செய்தது பற்றித் தெரிய வர அவரை மிரட்டுகிறார். எதைப் பற்றியும் கவலைப்படாத இஷான், டேனியல் பாலாஜியை எதிர்த்து மற்ற பெண்களையும் காப்பாற்ற நினைக்கிறார். இதன் பின் என்ன நடக்கிறது என்பதுதான் படத்தின் மீதிக் கதை. படத்தில் அறிமுகக் கதாநாயகனாக இஷான் நடித்துள்ளார். ஆக்ஷனில் அசத்துபவர், ஆக்டிங்கிலும் கொஞ்சம் பயிற்சி பெற வேண்டும். எல்லா காட்சிகளிலும் ஒரே விதமான முகபாவத்தையே வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். அவரது காதலியாக பிரனாலி கோக்ரே. காதலனுக்கு உதவியாக இருக்கும் ஒரு கதாபாத்திரம். பெண்களை வைத்து வீடியோ எடுத்து அதன் மூலம் கோடிகளை சம்பாதிக்கும் வில்லனாக டேனியல் பாலாஜி. இரண்டு மணி நேரத்திற்கும் குறைவான படம். அதற்குள்ளாகவே படத்தை சுருக்கமாக முடித்துள்ளார்கள். பெரிய அளவில் எந்தவிதமான திருப்புமுனைகளும் படத்தில் இல்லை. எப்படியும் ஹீரோ, பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்களைக் காப்பாற்றிவிடுவார் என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். அவர்களை எப்படிக் காப்பாற்றுகிறார் என்பதை இன்னும் பரபரப்பாகச் சொல்லியிருக்கலாம். கிளைமாக்சில் ஹீரோ களத்தில் இறங்காமல், பாதிக்கப்பட்ட பெண்களை வைத்தே படத்தை முடித்திருப்பது மட்டும் சிறப்பு. படத்தில் பாடல்கள் ஸ்பீட் பிரேக்கர்தான். இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் மெனக்கெட்டிருந்தால் இன்னும் ரசிக்கும்படியான படமாக வந்திருக்கலாம். படத்தை யார் இயக்கினாரோ அவர்தான் அதற்கு பொறுப்பு. கிடைத்த வாய்ப்பை சரியாகப் பயன்படுத்தி இருக்கலாம். அரியவன் - கொஞ்சம் சிறியவன்…

Ariyavan Teaser: Mithran R Jawahar's Crime Thriller Fights Sexual Violence

Mithran R Jawahar's Ariyavan, which is based on real events, is an action thriller centred around violence against women and sexual harassment. In both tone and treatment, the film moves away from the director's previous works — like Thiruchitrambalam (2022) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008) — which were light-hearted entertainers. In the 59-second teaser, we are introduced to a dangerous sexual racket network that kidnaps and kills its victims, without leaving behind any evidence. Daniel Balaji plays the head of this group.

Debutant Ishaoon plays Jeeva, a college student who fights these criminals. There is a split-second shot of Jeeva crying inconsolably in a hospital, as a girl lies in critical condition. This hints that he was also personally affected by the racket. “Your fear is his only weapon. Why are you getting scared and running away?” Jeeva questions the girls.

There is a lot of intense action featured in the teaser, and Ishaoon’s role as a Kabbadi player justifies the stuntwork. Co-starring Prranali, Ariyavan is slated to be released on March 3. The film has music by James Vasanthan, Ved Shankar and Gri Nandh.
