‘Ladies and gentlemen, respected faculty and dear friends, today I am here to present to present with you my perspective on the speech on love.

Love comes to us in many ways. The most fundamental form of love is the love for our family and friends. The love of our mother holds us close from the moment we are born. She feeds us with unconditional love. As we grow, our deep bonds with siblings, grandparents, relatives, and friends grow stronger with each passing year. We share laughs, tears, hopes, and dreams with them. Our togetherness supports each other in the ups and downs of life. 

Let me help to understand love with an example. Last year when my sister Shalini had a severe accident, our entire family came together to take care of her. We take care of her treatments, meals, and finances. Furthermore, we keep her spirits high by playing music of her choice and spending quality time together. With the power of love and care, she recovered fast. This experience taught me the importance of family bonds and care which is unbreakable and is difficult in the most difficult times of our life. 

Do we share the same bonds with our friends too? Yes, the same love is true for our close friends. Friends are the next family to us. They are yet another member of our family which we choose for ourselves. They know us deeply and accept us for what we are. My best friend 

Aswani is my childhood friend and has been by my side since middle school. We went through many struggles together but still, we share an unbreakable bond. He brings ice cream and movie tickets to comedy movies whenever I am upset, just to cheer me up. That is the power of true love for friends and friendship.

Love gives us strength, comfort, and courage to face any circumstance of life. The love of family and friends is precious. It is important to express our love and appreciation to our dear ones every day. Thank you.’

As soon as we listen to the word love, a picture of our loved and dear ones fills our hearts. It’s very natural to love our parents, siblings and friends. But love is not limited to human beings only. We love our home, our community, our natural environment, and our country. 

Our country provides us with identity, security, and freedom to pursue our dreams. We can in return pay our patriotism and civic responsibilities as gifts to the nation.

For example, we should follow our fundamental duties, vote in elections, keep peace in the country, and take part in social events for the betterment of the society as well as for the country. My parents who are immigrants cast their vote than anything. They never miss any election either local or national. Their dedication is something that motivates me to exercise my love for the betterment of the nation in the form of civil duty.

Another way to serve our country love is through community service. Last year, I volunteered at the Save Earth From Plastic program. The team of volunteers removed many plastics from our local rivers. Through this small action, I connected with the love for the beauty of nature as well as the country. With this small service, I felt proud that I protected my nation from being polluted. 

Furthermore, our love for the country also includes humanity and treating all citizens with humanity and dignity. No matter what the circumstances are, we should not forget the love of equality among us. Participating in protests against injustice serves the purpose of the warmth of different and similar views on the subject.

Our country is a secular and sovereign state. Loving the differences as well as the similarities helps us to give courage, compassion, and love to all who care about our homeland. Let us love our country more for generations to come.

People like to be included in decisions, and that makes them feel loved and valued. If you want to make sure your partner feels loved, ask for their advice on important matters.

Simple, sweet, and genuine compliments can mean a lot. If you want to express your love to someone, tell them they look nice or you appreciate them, and they will feel loved by you. If you are looking for ways to show love to your boyfriend, girlfriend, or significant other, complimenting them can make them feel special.

30. Keep the romance alive

People start wondering if their partner even loves them, especially when they have been together for a long time. It is vital to keep the romance alive , even when it is the smallest of gestures. 

Bring them a flower on your way back home from work, write them a letter, or text them a thank you for the lunch they packed you. It will make them feel loved and appreciated. 

Actions speak louder than words

We have heard people say this all the time – that actions speak louder than words. While saying I love you to your loved ones comes naturally to us, and we may say it a few times, it is also important to make sure our actions speak the same thing.

It is important to realize your partner’s character to make gestures that would be romantic to them. Remember that expressing love is a continuous process that requires effort, thoughtfulness, and intentionality. By incorporating a combination of words and actions into your relationship, you can nurture a deep and lasting connection with your partner.

Small gestures like the ones mentioned above go a long way in showing your partner what they mean to you. Make sure you express your love and feelings in your love language to make them feel appreciated and valued.

Sometimes they happen in the rain, or on a plane. Or maybe when you’re leaving a party, sitting by a pool, or maybe graduating middle school.

Big romantic speeches are the trademark of romance dramas and romantic comedies, a staple of the genre if there ever was one. But while they might be a given trope, the subject matter of these swoon-worthy speeches can vary greatly.

From the practicalities of relationships to head-over-heels declarations, here’s a list of 9 of the best big romantic movie speeches.

Spoiler alert: most of these speeches take place at the end of their respective movies, so plot spoilers abound.

When Harry Met Sally…

The new year’s eve speech.

After running through New York City on New Year’s Eve, Harry makes it to the party just in time to find Sally. Their eyes meet and he says the perfect line: “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and the thing is, I love you.” As the partygoers around them count down to the new year and start singing  Auld Lang Syne , Harry declares his love for her.

“I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend a day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

Can you think of a better way to ring in the new year? Me either.   

The Notebook

 the “i want you” speech.

Noah and Allie fell in love when they were teenagers, were kept apart by her parents, and found their way back to one another years later when Allie was engaged to another man. During a heated argument, Noah lays it all on the line for her. In a hopelessly romantic movie full of hopelessly romantic lines (“If you’re a bird, I’m a bird”) Noah’s emphatic, brutally honest depiction of love would make anyone a little weak in the knees.

“So it’s not gonna be easy, it’s gonna be really hard. And we’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you. Forever. You and me. Every day.”

Silver Linings Playbook

 pat’s letter to tiffany.

After their dance competition, Pat walks away from Tiffany and goes to speak with his ex-wife. Hurt, and thinking that he’s still in love with her, Tiffany storms out of the hotel. When Pat finally catches up to her, he hands her a letter. As she reads it, Pat begins to speak the words aloud.

“The only way you could meet my crazy was by doing something crazy yourself. Thank you. I love you. I knew it the minute I met you. I’m sorry it took so long for me to catch up, I just got stuck.”

  The scene ends with Pat revealing that he wrote the letter a week before their competition and a perfect kiss under the street’s twinkly lights.

The “Hill of Beans” Speech

Casablanca  is deceptively romantic. It’s a war movie without any combat, a love story without any sex scenes. And it ends with a whopper of a speech.

Rick has just revealed that he’s not getting on the plane with Ilsa, that he’s letting her leave with Victor Laszlo. And then… he tells her why…

Ilsa: “But what about us?” Rick: “We’ll always have Paris. We didn’t have— we’d lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night.” Ilsa: “When I said I would never leave you.” Rick” “And you never will. But I’ve got a job to do too, and where I’m going you can’t follow. What I’ve got to do, you can’t be any part of. Ilsa, I’m no good at being noble, but it doesn’t take much to see that the problems of three little people don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you’ll understand that. Now, now. Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Palm Springs

The “run-on sentence” speech.

We all know the infinite time loop drill — Sarah and Nyles, stuck in the same day over and over again. There’s some comedy, there’s some romance. Eventually, she wants out.

And after spending some of her infinite days studying quantum physics, Sarah thinks she’s found a way out of the loop. She’s about to leave when Nyles catches up to her. But Sarah interrupts his big speech and instead gives him a single sentence.

Nyles: “Even though I pretend not to be, I’ve realized that I am completely co-dependent, but I’m cool with it because I think that life should be shared now, and I need you to survive—” Sarah: “Okay. That’s your one sentence.” Nyles: “I need you to survive, COMMA, but it’s so much more than that, COLON: I know you better than anyone knows you, and remember that night that we saw the dinosaurs, you said it yourself, in order to really know a person you have to see their entire package, the good and the bad, and I’ve seen your package, and it is excellent, Sarah, AMPERSAND you’re my favorite person that I’ve ever met, and yes, I know that it’s crazy odds that the person I like the most in my entire life would be someone I met while I was stuck in a time loop, but you know what else is crazy odds? Getting stuck in a time loop. Dot dot dot—“ Sarah: “Ellipses.” Nyles: “Ellipses, thank you. Ellipses. Look, I hope that blowing ourselves up works, but it’s really irrelevant to me, as long as I’m with you, and if it kills us, well then, I’d rather die with you than live in this world without you. Emphatic period.”

The Proposal

The proposal proposal.

Sometimes romantic speeches are a little sappy, other times they start with an explanation of absolute hate. After spending an unexpected weekend together, Andrew realizes that the person he thought he despised is actually the one he wants to spend his life with. So he tells her just that in an honest, heartfelt, and slightly amusing speech in front of all their co-workers.

“Three days ago, I loathed you. I used to dream about you getting hit by a cab, or poisoned. Then we had our little adventure up in Alaska and things started to change. Things changed when we kissed. And when you told me about your tattoo. Even when you checked me out when we were naked. But I didn’t realize any of this until I was standing alone, in a barn, wifeless. Now, you can imagine my disappointment when it suddenly dawned on me that the woman I love is about to be kicked out of the country. So Margaret, marry me. Because I’d like to date you.”

Crazy Rich Asians

The “plane proposal” speech.

Whoever said that boarding a plane wasn’t romantic clearly hadn’t met Nick Young, who somehow manages to make it the perfect place for a proposal.

“I always imagined what me proposing to you would be like. You know what? I had it all planned out. Oh— right behind you, don’t mind me. I’d bring you to my favorite spot on the island. There’s a hidden trail that I used to go to as a child, and there’s a cove there that opens up to this beautiful lake— um, sorry dude. Give me a second. When the sun hits the horizon, I’d get down on one knee, and the rest of the world would fall away because it would just be you and— sorry, I can help you with that. Stay there. You too? Watch your fingers. Lift that up. Okay. Everybody okay? Because I just need 30 seconds with this woman. Okay, thank you. Coming through, sorry. I know this is a far throw from a hidden paradise, but wherever you are in the world, that’s where I belong.”  

Crazy, Stupid, Love

 the “soulmate” speech.

After Robbie gives half of an incredibly cynical middle-school graduation speech about how true love is a lie, his dad stands up in the crowd and takes over. Cal then stands up and ruminates on the subject of soulmates.

“My son — not him, my actual son — believes in grand, romantic gestures. He believes in the existence of one’s soulmate. And it’s easy to just look at a 13-year-old and say, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about. You are wrong.’ But I’m not so sure. I met my soulmate when I was 15 years old. We went out for ice cream. After, my dad started teasing me about my first date, the way dads do, and I told him, ‘Dad, it’s no big deal. I’m gonna be going out with a lot of different girls on a lot of different dates.’ And that is the first time that I ever lied to my father. I met my soulmate when I was 15 years old, and I have loved her every minute or every day since I first bought her that mint chocolate chip cone. I have loved her through the birth of my three perfect children. I have loved her even when I’ve hated her. Only married couples will understand that one. And I don’t know if it’s gonna work out. I don’t know what’s gonna happen. Sorry, Robbie, I can’t give you that. But I can promise you this: I will never stop trying. Because when you find the one, you never give up.”

Not exactly what my middle-school graduation was like, but I think I prefer the movie version, don’t you? 

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things

The speech by the pool.

What is it about infinite time loops that make people prone to romantic speeches?

In this one, the two main characters spend their infinite days looking for tiny perfect things in their unchanging world. And after some complications and a big revelation, they end up at their neighborhood pool. Margaret explains to Mark that on the worst day of her life, all she wanted was for time to stop. And it did.

“And then the really weird thing is that you showed up and I didn’t know where you came from and why it was you. And now I think I know why. I think it’s because, when it’s time to go, I wouldn’t have to go alone. It’s time. It’s not gonna be perfect, you know? We’re never gonna find the fourth dimension or cure cancer or fix the world, but the point is that I was wrong. We’re the ones sleeping. Everyone else is awake and it’s just us dreaming. I know it’s gonna hurt really bad. But I think that I have to wake up now. I think that this is the moment. Right now. And I don’t want to miss it.”

And then she kisses him, which is exactly how all big romantic speeches should end, don’t you think?

Want to express your love but not sure how? Here are 21 ways to start

You might be thinking, how hard is it to say 'I love you'?

It's a cinch, especially once you've plucked up the courage, right?

In fact there are many ways to express love, and many different times in your life that you'll want to do it.

I happen to have an insider's view on how to do it well.

You see, a few years ago I started to host wedding receptions in Chinese and English.

The work came to me because I was a comedian with a website that had the words 'Chinese' and 'MC' on it, and the universe sent the work my way because it has a sense of humour and knew I was going through a break up. Fun!

I soon discovered that there was no better place to learn all the different ways that couples express their love for each other. It's as individual as the way you brush your teeth.

I also discovered how daunting it is for people to make a speech in public about their love for one another.

It's almost always something left to the last minute for one of three reasons:

• 1. What a huge and unbelievably big task to speak in front of other people about something so personal! What if I leave something out? I have no idea where to start.
• 2. How hard could it be? I'm talking about someone who I know better than anyone else. I'll just make some dot points and work off that.
• 3. I don't know what I'll want to say until I say it. I'll just wing it and speak from the heart.

From wedding speeches to longer-than-usual texts — 21 questions to guide you

Everyone places different weight on the importance of saying 'I love you' out loud.

It can be a sentence ender for some — 'We need milk, I love you!' — or spoken only on special occasions.

It can be as rare as an eclipse or as everyday as Louis Armstrong's reasoning in his song What a Wonderful World: "I see friends shaking hands saying 'how do you do?' They're really saying 'I love you'."

So according to Mr Armstrong, you don't need a designated holiday to say to a loved one "I choo, choo, choose you" — we're actually doing it all the time.

But if you did want to get a little deeper than a Simpsons' reference (apparently sometimes life calls for this), here are some questions to get you started — whether you're penning an old-fashioned love letter, a new-fashioned email, a longer than usual text, a one-on-one TED Talk, or even a wedding speech.

Seem like a long list? Begin with the first one that takes your fancy. Take some notes and see where it takes you.

Be like the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, whose Sonnet 43 begins "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways", and then just start counting the ways.

These are just starting points… the time, place and person, that's all up to you.

• What do you love that they do for you? Why?
• What are the things they do for you that you don't appreciate until they're away?

The abstract

• What do you admire about the values they believe in?
• What are the strengths that they may not see in themselves, that you see and love?
• What's a precious memory you'll always hold close to your heart?

Your mom and dad take care of you, they help you when you’re sad or sick, and they happy for you when you do cool things. Oh My friends! I want to tell you that it is an actual face of true love.

When you mess up or make mistakes, they still love you.

Love with parents is super special. It’s not just about saying “I love you.” It’s also about doing things together, like playing games, helping each other, or just talking and laughing.

Sometimes, you might feel a bit upset, and that’s okay. Your parents are there to give you big, warm hugs and make things better.

Love with parents is a bit like a magic power. It makes you feel safe, happy, and all warm inside. It’s like a super cozy blanket for your heart.

So, let’s appreciate our parents’ love. Tell them that you love them. I advice to all of you that please daily spend some time with parents.

15. "Rondel of Merciless Beauty" by Geoffrey Chaucer

Widely regarded as the ‘Father of English poetry’, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote some of the most renowned works of the English language, including ‘The Canterbury Tales’ and ‘The Book of the Duchess’. The standalone poem ‘Rondel of Merciless Beauty’ (here translated from Middle English) recounts Chaucer’s heartbreak after being left by the love of his life, pledging his everlasting devotion to her even though it pains him.

Guan Daosheng was a Chinese painter and poet of the early Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). ‘Married Love’ uses the image of clay figurines to represent two lovers being united as one through the sacred act of marriage, just as clay solidifies in a kiln.

‘Heart, we will forget him!’ aligns with the forceful nature of so many Emily Dickinson poems . It is a powerful reflection of the fallout after a passionate love affair and how she tried to move on, going so far as to command her heart to do so, even knowing it’s futile.

She describes her poetry as ‘simple and accessible’ — which has allowed it to reach millions of readers worldwide, particularly through Instagram presence. ‘for him’ is a perfect example of a beautiful, powerful love poem which doesn’t have to try too hard to pack a punch.

Prolific poet Dorothea Lasky has written multiple collections and currently directs the poetry programme at Columbia University. In ‘Poem To An Unnameable Man’, she uses celestial imagery to explore a romantic relationship, describing her power and strength to the lover who underestimates her.

Katherine Mansfield has been praised for her ability to simplify complex emotions through short stories and poetry. One of the more tranquil poems on this list, ‘Camomile Tea’ paints a picture of a couple who are calm and quiet and happy with the life they’ve made for themselves, highlighting the underrated joy that peaceful familiarity and comfort can bring in a relationship.

Nathan McClain’s inspiration for ‘Love Elegy in the Chinese Garden, with Koi’ was a date to the Huntington Botanical Gardens. In the poem, McClain aimed to ‘explore the sense of anxiety’ between two potential lovers, and the weighty emotional baggage that previous failed relationships can bestow upon you.

41. "I think I should have loved you presently (Sonnet IX)" by Edna St. Vincent Millay

Edna St. Vincent Millay’s ‘I think I should have loved you presently’ serves as a subversion of the traditional sonnet form. In the poem, the speaker laments their inability to reciprocate their lover’s earnest affection, instead choosing sweet nothings and superficial flirtation over genuine connection.

In ‘Your Feet’, Neruda expresses a similar devotion to his love as he explains his love for her from head to toe, and gives thanks for the forces he feels brought them together inevitably.

The speaker in Lisa Olstein’s ‘Dear One Absent This Long While’ is anxiously waiting for her loved one to return home. The nervous buzz of anticipation as the speaker waits to return to a life of comfort and mundanity, a puzzle from which their lover is the only missing piece, gives this love poem a beautiful raw honesty.

45. "My Lover Is a Woman" by Pat Parker

Pat Parker was an American poet and activist who drew great inspiration from her life as an African-American lesbian feminist. ‘My Lover Is a Woman’ is about the struggles Parker faced as an openly queer woman of colour, and the safe harbour her lover represents in that storm.

Relationships have a funny way of transcending time and space,  and that transcendence isexpressed in Harold Pinter’s beautiful love poem ‘It Is Here’ as he asks his lover to think back to the beginning of their relationship, and in doing so brings the long-passed moment to life.

The words I love you

could never be enough.

Christopher Poindexter here presents a deeply honest and relatable portrait of a love that goes beyond the limits of language, as he describes the overwhelming and paradoxical longing it’s possible to feel even when your lover is right by your side. 

48. “Love Is Not A Word” by Riyas Qurana

Written from the point of view of a personified love, “Love Is Not A Word” is a rather ambiguous poem. Riyas Qurana explores the notion of love as a whole and relates the concept to nature to emphasize how elemental it is to the human experience. 

49. "[Again and again, even though we know love’s landscape]" by Rainer Maria Rilke 

Again and again, even though we know love’s landscape

and the little churchyard with its lamenting names

and the terrible reticent gorge in which the others

end: again and again the two of us walk out together 

under the ancient trees, lay ourselves down again and  

among the flowers, and look up into the sky.

Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke believed that it was ‘perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks’ for one human to love another (Letters to a Young Poet, 1929). In ‘[Again and again, even though we know love’s landscape]’, Rilke celebrates the continuous, everyday love that two people can share, and the strength that comes from making one vulnerable enough to love another, despite knowing the risk of heartbreak.

50. "Echo" by Christina Rossetti

In ‘Echo’, Christina Rossetti reflects on a lost love and how she wishes it would come back to her like an echo. Rossetti is in despair, longing for her ex-lover, and the resulting yearning creates an equally heartbreaking and beautiful love poem.

Despite a concern with reciprocity (or a lack thereof) in these opening lines, a feeling of ‘oneness’ in fact runs throughout ‘I loved you first: but afterwards your love’, also by Rossetti. This poem reflects the feeling of complete understanding between two people who love each other deeply, as Rossetti explains how their individual feelings combine to create one love, a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

The words of 13th-century Persian poet Rumi have transcended national, ethnic, and religious divides for centuries. The passion and dedication in ‘Defeated by Love’ is apparent in each line, making this enduring testament to the power of love one of the most beautiful love poems on our list. 

53. "Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? (Sonnet 18)" by William Shakespeare 

Although William Shakespeare may not have have written any romance novels , there are few more celebrated love poets and ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’ is perhaps the most iconic and recognizable opening line of any love poem. Its simplicity compared to some of Shakespeare’s other sonnets makes it stand out against an incomparable library of work, but the hidden depths and layers of meaning in this densely packed mini-masterpiece have kept readers returning for centuries.

54. "Let me not to the marriage of true minds (Sonnet 116)" by William Shakespeare

Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments. Love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds, 

Or bends with the remover to remove.

O no! it is an ever-fixed mark

In ‘Sonnet 116’, Shakespeare talks about the permanence of love — even if the people change as time goes on, the love between them will remain true and strong, or else it isn’t love at all.

55. "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun" (Sonnet 130) by William Shakespeare

I grant I never saw a goddess go;

My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:

In Shakespeare’s final entry on our list, he challenges the traditional association of love with beauty. It doesn’t matter what his lover looks like — to him she is the most rare and valuable thing in the world.

56. "Love’s Philosophy" by Percy Bysshe Shelley

‘Love’s Philosophy’, while a beautiful love poem, offers a much more logical take on romance than many of the other poems on our list. Percy Bysshe Shelley expresses to his lover that  their love is as natural as a river meeting the ocean — but equally that all the beauties of nature are meaningless if he doesn’t have her.

57. "One Day I Wrote her Name (Sonnet 75)" by Edmund Spenser 

One day I wrote her name upon the strand, 

But came the waves and washed it away:

Again I wrote it with a second hand, 

But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.

This beautiful love poem is part of Amoretti , a sonnet cycle about Edmund Spenser’s relationship with Elizabeth Boyle. Spenser explains in ‘Sonnet 75’ that — despite the seemingly portentous way his attempts to make a physical monument to his lover by writing her name in the sand is repeatedly foiled — his love for Boyle will never end, and he will do whatever it takes to make it last. 

58. "I Am Not Yours" by Sara Teasdale

A longing for genuine, passionate, all-encompassing love is the central theme of Sara Tesdale’s ‘I Am Not Yours’. The speaker doesn’t feel any sense of belonging in her current relationship, and wants to find a partner who makes her feel lost in their love.

59. "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson 

Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;

Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;

The firefly wakens; waken thou with me.

‘Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal’ is a song from The Princess, a longer, narrative poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It was inspired by the ghazal , a Persian form of love poetry which focuses on unsustainable love, and is a classic masterclass in sensual description.

Kevin Varrone confesses how close he feels to his lover in ‘poem I wrote sitting across the table from you’. Written in a moment of procrastination as he worked on a longer verse in a coffee shop, the poem expresses how Varrone wants his lover to partake on all of his adventures, no matter how big or small.

While you’re probably familiar with Vuong’s 2019 novel by the same name, you may not be familiar with the poem that came first. Daniel Radcliffe Thanks Tearful Girlfriend and Son as He Wins First Tony Award: 'I Love You So Much'

The 'Harry Potter' alum received his first Tony Award since making his debut on Broadway in 2008

Daniel Radcliffe clinched his first-ever Tony on Sunday, June 16, at the 2024 Tony Awards , hosted by Ariana DeBose at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City.

The Harry Potter alum, 34, nabbed the prize for best performance by a featured actor in a musical for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway as Charley Kringas, the lyricist and best friend of protagonist Franklin Shepard (played by Jonathan Groff ). As he accepted the honor, Radcliffe made sure to thank his longtime girlfriend Erin Darke (who could be seen tearing up during his speech), as well as shout out the couple's one year old son , who they welcomed in April 2023.

"My mum and dad are here somewhere — happy Father's Day, dad, I love you both so much. Thank you for playing Sondheim in the car and just, you know, loving me," Radcliffe said as he wrapped his speech. "And my love Erin — you and our son are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much, thank you so much. Thank you everybody."

Since his Broadway debut in 2008 with Equus , Radcliffe has since appeared in productions of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying , The Cripple of Inishmaan and The Lifespan of a Fact , as well as Merrily We Roll Along .

Radcliffe received two Broadway Audience Choice awards earlier this year for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, winning the favorite featured actor in a musical and favorite onstage pair categories.

Radcliffe and his fellow castmates including Groff, 39, and Lindsay Mendez will close their last show for Merrily We Roll Along on July 7, after performing together on Broadway since October 2023.

"Thank you so much to our cast, everybody on that stage, it is an honor to be on that stage with you every single night. I will miss it so much," Radcliffe said elsewhere in his speech, before he addressed his costars directly. "Speaking of missing things, Jonathan, Lindsay: I will miss you so much. I don't really have to act in this show, I just have to look at you and feel everything I want to feel," he added. "I will never have it this good again."

Back in 2008, Radcliffe said performing live "was amazing" as he prepared for his Broadway debut in  Equus  at age 19.

"As long as it goes well, you can't stop smiling," he said at the time, during a talk held by  The New York Times .

Off the stage, Radcliffe most recently appeared in the films  The Lost City  and  Weird: The Al Yankovic Story , a  biographical parody film  about the life of musician  "Weird Al" Yankovic  throughout  various stages of his career .

Tell Them You Love Me on Netflix.

Netflix’s newest true crime documentary, Tell Them You Love Me, is currently the No. 2 movie on the streaming platform. While watching the film, you might have questions about what happened in real life, including where Anna Stubblefield is now .

Directed by Nick August-Perna, Netflix’s Tell Them You Love Me delves into the controversial relationship between a white, abled professor and a nonverbal Black man with cerebral palsy, which led to a “nation-wide debate over power dynamics, disability, and race” after the man’s said that he couldn’t give consent, according to Netflix’s Tudum .

The documentary centers on whether Johnson, who is nonverbal, could communicate through FC communication and give consent. The court initially answered “no” to the question of consent and Anna Stubblefield was sentenced to two, 12-year terms in 2015. That didn’t mark the end of the strange case — the professor’s initial conviction was overturned, and she was released after two years after pleading to a lesser sentence.

Tell Them You Love Me centers on first-hand testimony from Stubblefield, Johnson’s family members, FC expert Howard Shane, and disabled anthropologist and professor Devva Kasnitz to tell the story of what happened.

Anna Stubblefield and Derrick Johnson crossed paths in 2009 through his brother, John Johnson. John was a PhD student at Rutgers University and took Stubblefield’s philosophy and disability studies class. After class, he approached the professor to learn more about facilitated communication, a technique Stubblefield was familiar with after watching her mother use it for 20 years.

After speaking with D.J.’s mother, Daisy Johnson, the married ethics professor offered to facilitate D.J. herself. “She was gonna move mountains, and I accepted her at her word,” Daisy says in Tell Them You Love Me.

What Is FC Communication?

FC communication is an assisted typing technique where a facilitator physically supports a person’s hand or arm as they point to letters on a page or keyboard, spelling out words. However, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) describes FC communication as “a discredited technique that should not be used.” The association says that there is “extensive scientific evidence” that “messages are authored by the “facilitator” rather than the person with a disability.”

Stubblefield said that she successfully taught D.J. how to communicate through FC, and with her assistance, he began taking a university class. The professor claimed that Johnson was an intellectual trapped in a body that could not communicate.

But just five years before, a clinical psychologist named Wayne Tillman evaluated D.J. and found that he couldn’t carry out basic, pre-school level tasks. Tillman said that his “comprehension seemed to be quite limited,” “his attention span was very short,” and he “lacks the cognitive capacity to understand and participate in decisions,” according to The New York Times .

Derrick was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus after suffering multiple seizures as an infant. He learned how to walk after attending a day program and participating in his family’s daily routine. In the documentary, John says that while D.J. was “there” and expressed emotions like feeling happy or frustrated, he never had a formal education.

What Happened Between Anna Stubblefield And Derrick Johnson?

With Stubblefield’s help, Derrick progressed rapidly with FC — although his success only occurred when the professor, and not his mother or brother, was facilitating. D.J. became more interested in his studies; he enrolled in an African American Literature course and attended FC conferences with Stubblefield, who shared statements he had allegedly written.

‘‘The right to communication is the right to hope,’’ one essay said, per The New York Times. ‘‘I am jumping for joy knowing I can talk, but don’t minimize how humiliating it can be to know people jump to the conclusion I am mentally disabled.’’

At the same time, red flags started to emerge. Stubblefield said that Derrick preferred classical music to the gospel station they were listening to in the car. She also said he liked red wine more than beer, wanted to be a vegetarian, and hoped to move out of his mother’s house, according to Time.com . Daisy started to get suspicious, as her “alleged” son’s words sounded “very much of what she [Anna] liked but not what [D.J.] liked.’’

Stubblefield, who was married at the time, claimed that she and D.J. fell in love and she planned to leave her husband for him. She later testified that her feelings for him developed gradually. ‘‘I became aware of things when he wrote the essay. It wasn’t all that original — people who had had the same experience had said similar things — but with all the spelling mistakes, he had a way of putting things.’’

Stubblefield also revealed that the two had engaged in a “consensual” sexual relationship. Daisy, knowing that her son couldn’t engage in physical or emotional intimacy, reported Stubblefield to the police. The last time Daisy spoke with Anna in August, their phone call was recorded, and detectives listened on the other line.

‘Yes, [D.J.] wanted to be physically involved with me, and I wanted to be physically involved with him,’’ Anna said on the call. “Our relationship is not just about or primarily about the sex part. We love each other very, very, very much, and I wouldn’t have sex with somebody that I didn’t love.”

Who Was Anna Stubblefield Husband?

Anna Stubblefield married Roger Stubblefield, a tuba player for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The couple married in June 1989 and welcomed a son and daughter a few years later. According to The New York Times, the family was living in their upscale West Orange, N.J. home when Anna started falling in love with D.J.

Anna opened up about her relationship with Roger later in court. ‘‘The marriage wasn’t great,” she admitted, “but I wasn’t at a state of wanting imminently to end it.’’ She testified that it came down to a choice of whether she wanted to hurt Roger or D.J. ‘‘There wasn’t any choice. I wasn’t going to hurt [D.J.].’’

In testimony at a pretrial hearing, Roger said he realized his marriage was in trouble when ‘‘the prosecutors came and banged down the door.’’ The couple still went marriage counseling, and he said the therapist’s first words were, ‘Anna, you must stop dwelling on this relationship with [D.J.].’”

What Happened In Anna Stubblefield’s Trial?

In 2013, Stubblefield was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault. Because FC was not recognized by science, the court ruled that “no evidence related to FC would be considered,” per Netflix. In 2015, the jury found Anna guilty on both counts, and she was sentenced to two, 12 years terms in prison.

Two years later, Stubblefield’s verdict was overturned by a New Jersey state appellate court in 2017. According to Slate , the three-judge panel ruled that the judge in Stubblefield’s original trial “unfairly excluded evidence related to the man’s capacity to give consent” and granted her a new trial with a new judge. Anna accepted a plea deal, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual contact, and was sentenced to time served.

A Southern California mom claims that her 13-year-old son was kicked out of middle school after being “too patriotic” in a speech he planned to deliver to his classmates.

On May 16, middle school student Jimmy Heyward was set to address his peers as part of his campaign for Commissioner of School Spirit and Patriotism at Saint Bonaventure Catholic School, a K-8 institution in Huntington Beach.

When the school reviewed Jimmy’s speech, as was required of all candidates, he was asked to tone down language like the word “hate” in the context of talking about people who “hate” their country, as well as references to patriotism.

“My love for America is my motivation for running for Commissioner of Patriotism and School Spirit,” Jimmy had planned to say. “It is my honor to live in this country. Sadly, some people take their citizenship for granted, whether it is disrespecting the people who protect us or eating nachos during the national anthem at sporting events.”

The proposed speech continued, “Many people recite the Pledge of Allegiance without understanding the meaning. If someone doesn’t truly know what they are pledging to the United States of America, they might as well be reciting the lyrics to ‘Shake it Off’ by Taylor Swift.”

Jimmy’s mother, Hattie Ruggles, told The Post that he toned down the “hate” verbiage as requested, but refused to remove references to patriotism.

“He decided not to take the patriotism part out because that’s the position he’s running for, and his dad and I both agreed it should stay in,” the 39-year-old recalled. “We read it and we’re like, yeah, that sounds great.”

The school disagreed. The principal allegedly barred the boy from speaking, and, on Tuesday, Ruggles received  a letter informing her that Jimmy, along with his 5- and 11-year-old sisters, could not return to the school in the fall.

“I was absolutely blown away,” Ruggles said. “I never expected them to say you guys are no longer welcome here … He loves his country, and that’s what he was trying to communicate.”

The letter from the school, which Ruggles posted to her Facebook account on Tuesday, said her kids were being terminated due to “serious violations of the Christian Code of Conduct.” The letter was signed by the school’s parish pastor.

It referenced a Change.org petition , which Ruggles said she wrote herself, requesting to have the principal removed for not allowing Jimmy’s speech.

It alleged the family posted “disparaging remarks about the administration” online that led to a “smear campaign” that violated the school’s Parent Electronic Communication Policy.

Ruggles disagrees vehemently with that characterization.

“It’s not a smear campaign when you’re telling the truth about what happened to your child,” she said.

In the letter, the school also accuses the family of “speaking to administration in a way that is not in line with our expectations for respectful and courteous communication … These actions have negatively impacted the school community and go against the principles we strive to uphold.”

The missive continued, “Please understand that this decision is made in the best interest of maintaining the standards and values that are central to our school’s mission.”

According to Ruggles, her son was also criticized by some peers for his campaign poster and hat that mimicked the Trump campaign’s style — and promised to “Make SBS great again!”

“Instead of just writing something like ‘Vote for Jimmy,’ he was really thinking out of the box and thinking this would be cool to do something in the style of a real presidential campaign,” the mother-of-four said.

Hattie said Jimmy made the merchandise on his own and that, other than driving him to pick it up, she and her husband were hands off.

“I think if it was flipped and had he mimicked Joe Biden’s campaign, and used his slogan, it would have been fine,” she said.

In late May, she found out that the principal won’t be returning for the next school year. Saint Bonaventure did not confirm whether the principal’s exit is related to the incident.

“As a matter of campus policy, we do not comment on private student or family matters. However, St. Bonaventure Catholic School remains committed to the principles outlined in our Christian Code of Conduct and Parent Handbook,” the school told The Post.

“To that end, we expect all parents and students to uphold these standards, which are crucial to developing a respectful and supportive school community for all. We will continue our Christ-centered, faith-based mission of fostering an environment where every student can thrive spiritually and academically.”

Since chronicling the debacle on social media, Ruggles said the school community has rallied around her.

“So many parents have reached out to us and shown us support that literally blew us away,” she noted.

Huntington Beach, a well-heeled seaside city about an hour south of Los Angeles, is predominantly conservative .

Ruggles is now scrambling to find a school for three kids in the fall, but she said the lessons her son learned about sticking to his guns and speaking his mind make it all worthwhile.

“Jimmy is a patriot through and through, and we love that about him. He has been extremely into the history of his country since he was young,” she said. “We’re extremely proud of our son.”

NEW YORK – Celine Dion is bravely opening up about her recent health struggles.

In a heartbreaking new documentary, “ I Am: Celine Dion ,” the five-time Grammy winner gives viewers an intimate and, at times, harrowing look inside her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS) , an extremely rare neurological disorder that causes painful spasms and muscle stiffness. Dion, 56, made a rare public appearance at the film’s premiere Monday at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, where she tearfully thanked her fans for standing by her after she was forced to cancel her Las Vegas residency and world tour .

"This is by far the biggest crowd I've had in a few years," said Dion, who announced her diagnosis in 2022. “Your presence in my journey has been a gift beyond measure. Your never-ending love and support over all these years have delivered me to this moment.”

Dion then compared herself to an apple, saying that she didn't want to make her fans “wait in line anymore if I don’t have any shiny apples for you.” But a couple days ago, “I saw a message from a fan and it said, ‘We’re not here for the apple. We’re here for the tree.’”

The singer spoke softly and deliberately for roughly 10 minutes, frequently wiping tears from her eyes. Her eldest son, René-Charles Angélil, 23, stood at the back of the stage and brought his mom a tissue midway through her speech. Dion also thanked her other “wonderful children,” twins Eddy and Nelson, 13, who were just offstage waiting in the wings. “I cannot believe how fortunate I am to have my family in my life,” she said, pausing as she was overcome with emotion.

Dion went on to acknowledge her neurologist, Dr. Amanda Piquet, as well as the director of “I Am,” Irene Taylor: “You’ve not only made this film with such feeling and tenderness, but you also became a dear friend in this whole crazy process … as hard as it may have been at times.”

Told through new and archival footage, “I Am” is an eye-opening window into the day-to-day of living with stiff person syndrome, and how the condition has affected Dion’s vocal capabilities, in particular. Dion is resilient and characteristically funny, as she revisits a literal warehouse of her memorabilia and wistfully looks back on her life and career. But she also breaks down on numerous occasions, as she struggles to sing and manage her condition with the help of physical therapy and medication. The documentary’s final 15 minutes, especially, are both shocking and scary to watch, showing the devastating reality of stiff person syndrome.

Dion received multiple standing ovations before and after the screening. She waved, saluted and blew kisses to the impassioned audience, many of whom could be heard crying throughout the film.

“Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart for being part of my journey,” Dion said before leaving the stage. “This movie is my love letter to each of you. I hope to see you all again very soon.”

Kyle Sinckler: Snus harmed my performance and cost me England place

Kyle Sinckler believes that his use of snus affected his performances for England and played a part in his eventual exit from Steve Borthwick’s squad following the Rugby World Cup.

Sinckler, who will join Toulon in France next season, revealed on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast that “there was loads of other things that were happening behind the scenes, loads of habits that I was doing that were not conducive to being a world-class athlete, that kind of all came out after”.

Asked to elaborate, Sinckler said that he started taking snus as a younger player when he was losing weight, and that the smokeless tobacco product helped to suppress his appetite.

The British and Irish Lions prop added that snus was “very addictive” and “not good for your performance”, before admitting that it contradicted his work being a role model on social media. Sinckler has previously worked with Saviour World, the men’s mentoring organisation also used by Danny Cipriani and James O’Connor.

“In terms of like where I want to be and the person, the man I want to become, I can’t be saying one thing on the socials and putting out a message like that. And then behind closed doors, I’m acting like a victim, the world’s against me and I’m doing snus,” Sinckler said. “The whole thing is just... it doesn’t work like that, you know? So it’s like at the end of the day, I’ve reaped what I sowed, you know?”

Jonny May, the former England wing speaking on the same podcast, described Sinckler’s admission as “powerful... because a lot of people in rugby are hooked on this stuff. I don’t know enough about it, but it can’t be good for us”.
