Madhu was born in the family of Madhu Jyotsna Akhouri and Dr. Manohar Kishan Akhouri in Kerala, India. Her mother was a member of the lower house of Bihar (an Indian State).

Actress Priyanka Chopra has always been candid about her admiration for her parents. In a 2021 interview with Oprah on Super Soul Sunday , the actress opened up about how her parents' influence on her life helped to bolster her self-confidence.

The Indian beauty may be world-renowned today, but she has never forgotten the ones who stood by her when she was starting out.

The tone her parents set for her obviously influenced her high-profile relationship wit h Nick Jonas, whom she married in 2018. Now, the blissful wedding pair are parents to Malti Marie Chopra Jonas , and in an interview with Femina , the actress shared that she would sacrifice everything for her daughter, just like her parents did for her.

During the interview, the actress recalled the sacrifice that her parents made to give her a better life.

"At that time, I took it all completely for granted. I was like, of course, it’s your parents’ job to do that. My career matters. And I didn’t even think about it until I was writing my book," she shared. "And then it dawned on me like now I’m in my 40s. And that, if I were asked to give up my career and just move countries, I would do it without question for my daughter."

When Priyanka won the Miss India 2000 title at 17 years old, her parents — Ashok Chopra and Madhu Chopra— were both physicians in the Indian Army and decided to give up their newly opened hospital in Bareilly, one of the largest metropolises in Western Uttar Pradesh, India to support her budding career.

"It is, still, a huge sacrifice. And we are so blessed to have parents who did that. But, there are families under societal pressures that don’t necessarily know that they can let their daughters have aspirations," Priyanka told Femina . "So, I think that the one thing that we need to do is create a dialogue around parenting, around raising our sons in a way in which there is respect for women, creating opportunities in society where women are in positions of power. Not just getting jobs, but actually being decision-makers. I think that’s what’s going to change it for us."

This is not the first time the Love Again actress is speaking up in admiration about the example that her parents set for her. On Memorial Day 2020, she shared a photo of her parents — Ashok and Madhu —and commended them, and other military families, for their selfless service.

In the post , she wrote: "Both my parents served in the Indian Army... Maybe that's why I feel such a kinship with military families all over the world. Today let's think of all the fallen heroes that have given their lives in service to protect our freedom. Memorial Day."

Although Ashok sadly passed away in 2013 after battling cancer, Priyanka often fondly remembers him in several of her social media posts.

At the age of 20, Chopra made her debut in the 2002 film Thamizhan and followed it that same year with Jeet: Born to Win . Of her debut, Chopra was clear: “I hated it!” she has said. “I wanted to leave the industry once I did it! I didn't know what I was saying or doing.”

In 2003 she appeared in her first Bollywood film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy . That same year she appeared in Andaaz , and this kicked off a long string of films, including Plan, Kismat, Asambhav, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Aitrazz — incredibly, all released in 2004. While most of these films underperformed at the box office, Chopra found success with the romantic comedy, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi .

Not content with making five films in a single year, in 2005, Chopra starred in six, including Blackmail, Karam, Yakeen and Barsaat , none of which were box-office performers. She followed these in 2006 with two of the year’s most successful films, Krrish and Don , but she was also in four other films that year that came and went unnoticed. In 2007 Chopra found little success at the box office, and in 2008 she returned with another six more. One of her 2008 films, Fashion , struck a chord with critics, and in 2009 Chopra stretched her abilities playing 12 different roles in What’s Your Raashee?

In 2014 she starred in the title role of Mary Kom , a film based on the real-life story of the female boxing champion. The film was the first Hindi-made movie to premiere on opening night at the Toronto International Film Festival and put Chopra in the global cinema spotlight once more.

Chopra had already appeared in nearly 50 films by 2014, with more recent titles including Agneepath, Barfi! and Gunday .

In 2015 Chopra signed on to the cast of Quantico , an American TV show about FBI recruits. With the role, Chopra became the first Indian woman to star in a leading American TV network drama and marked her most visible crossover to date from Bollywood to Hollywood. The show and Chopra's performance received praise from critics and audiences alike, with the actress claiming a number of People's Choice Awards for her work.

In May 2018 ABC announced that Quantico would not move forward to a fourth season. Its complex storyline and heavily serialized nature was said to be contributors to its ratings decline.

Chopra's international fame allowed her to star in more prominent Indian films, including Bajirao Mastani (2015), which became one of the biggest box-office hits in India. Her portrayal as a general's wife brought her a slew of awards. The following year she produced and made a brief appearance in the Marathi-language dramedy Ventilator , another critical and commercial success.

'Baywatch,' 'Isn't It Romantic?'

In America, Chopra wasn't so lucky when she starred in Seth Gordon's Baywatch (2017), as it was panned by critics, though some admittedly found her character to be one of the highlights of the comedy. She went on to a supporting role in the Rebel Wilson -led rom-com satire Isn't It Romantic? (2019), before returning to Bollywood later that year as co-star of the dramedy The Sky Is Pink .

The actress and singer-actor Nick Jonas went public with their relationship during the summer of 2018. News of their engagement came in late July, with Jonas reportedly popping the question on Chopra's 36th birthday. The pair married in a multiple-day lavish affair beginning on December 1, 2018.

But she did win, and although she was enrolled at Jai Hind College in Mumbai, she quickly dropped out of college to explore her more glamorous options. She soon took her Miss India crown to the 2000 Miss World pageant and won that as well, becoming one of five Indian women to take the title. With that win came instant fame, and Chopra soon took the logical next step: the world of film.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas' parents were doctors in the Indian army, so the family moved often.

Ask some of the world’s wealthiest what their Roman Empire is in terms of a shopping spree, and along with property, private jets and interplanetary travel, high jewelry is likely to emerge as the item liable to make the one per cent weak at their nipped, tucked and bio-hacked knees.

It’s fortuitous then, that last night, Roman luxury behemoth Bulgari showcased one of the most expensive jewelry designs they have ever created: a jaw-dropping snaking diamond choker crafted from a rough diamond totaling 200 carats which is worth a staggering $43 million–worn on the night by longtime ambassador for the brand, Priyanka Chopra .

The Serpenti Aertena necklace–described as the most precious design that Bulgari has ever debuted–is just one creation crafted to mark the house’s 140th anniversary. It forms the centrepiece of a celebratory collection designed by jewelry creative director Lucia Silvestri, dazzling with coiling snakes, juicy cabochon-cut gemstones and ancient coins, that was unveiled at the historic Terme di Diocleziano–the site of the largest ancient public baths in Rome. A static, vitrine-lined jewelry presentation this was not: breathtaking necklaces, secret watches and earrings sparkled on models including Mariacarla Boscono, Isabella Rossellini (fresh from a recent catwalk outing at Pucci) and Carla Bruni, who took a turn on the outdoor runway as night fell.

Watching from the starry front row? Chopra, who sat alongside her fellow Bulgari ambassadors Anne Hathaway, Liu Yifei, Shu Qi, Hikari Mori and Alessandro Gassman, sporting a monochromatic corseted Del Core gown and the twinkling pièce de résistance from Bulgari’s 140th anniversary collection. The necklace features seven flawless pear diamond drops totaling 140 carats along with 698 undulating baguette cut diamonds, and took over 2,800 hours to complete.

From the catwalk, Bulgari CEO Jean-Christophe Babin named Chopra his “queen,” but it’s likely one of the Roman’s brand’s top tier high jewelry clients will be keen to take that diamond-sparkling crown. Only a tiny section of the world’s wealthiest will be able to afford the Serpenti Aertena necklace (one journalist suggested Jeff Bezos might purchase it for his future bride Lauren Sanchez).
