209-472-2150 Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin MaryMeet our clergy. Slide titleFR. SUDHAKAR FR. MADHU REV. DR. BILL REV. FR. MARK WAGNER, PASTORAbout Fr. Mark (excerpted from his 2018 “How I became a priest” article for St. Joseph’s Church): “I attended 6:30 am Mass every day at Presentation Parish before my classes at Lincoln High School. I also tried to do a daily holy hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, following the famous recommendation of Bishop Fulton Sheen. As the only young man in the Legion of Mary group, I was “blessed among women” at meetings. As a high school foreign exchange student in France, I discovered that most French people are non-practicing Catholics, who were amazed that I wanted to attend daily Mass. By bicycle, I went to countless wonderful churches! Attending Delta College for two years, I played on the soccer team and gradually began to lose interest in becoming a priest. Next, I studied journalism at Chico State University, becoming a disc jockey for a campus radio station. I also attended parties and chased girls (but God prevented me from catching any!) Throughout, I was not able to drown out the voice of God calling me to the priesthood. I felt unfulfilled and resumed my practice of daily Mass and holy hour, and decided to enter the seminary. When I told my roommates about my decision, they said it was “cool,” and I found out that some of them were Catholic. After two years of college seminary, I was sent for five years of theology study in Rome. This was a blessing, as I was able to visit the shrines of Europe and the Holy Land. I received a theology degree from the “Gregorian University” and a license degree (S.T.L.) in moral theology from the “John Paul II Institute for Studies of Marriage and Family.” Upon finishing my studies, I returned home and was ordained a priest by Bishop Donald Montrose on September 24, 1988.” Fr. Mark is pleased to return to his “home parish” and looks forward to serving the parishioners of Presentation Parish. REV. FR. SUDHAKAR MANDA, HGN, PAROCHIAL VICARHello, my name is Fr. Manda Sudhakar. I’m from India and I belong to the Missionary Society of Heralds of Good News (HGN). I was ordained to the priesthood on April 19, 2010. Since then, I have been appointed Vice-Rector in Heralds Spiritual Orientation Center HGN and Vice-Rector of St. Joseph’s Major Seminary. I’ve been a parish priest for several parishes as well. I enjoy music vocals, singing, and drawing. I like reading books and my favorite book is “The Priest is Not His Own” by Bishop Fulton Sheen. My favorite saints are St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta and St. Cecilia. My favorite movie is “The Man Who Became Pope.” My favorite quote is “The Lord Provides.” I enjoy eating all South Indian dishes. REV. FR. MADHU APPANAPALLE, HGN, PAROCHIAL VICARI am Father Madhu Appanapalle. I was ordained as a priest on April 19, 2012. Soon after my ordination, I was appointed as a pastor in a parish in India. I served five years in that parish then came to the Diocese of Stockton. I served three years in Our Lady of Fatima in Modesto California as Parochial Vicar. I then moved to St. Anthony's in Manteca and served there for three years as Parochial Vicar. Now, I'm at Presentation Parish. And I love my priesthood! My favorite saints are St. Francis Xavier, St. Anthony of Padua, and St. Padre Pio. On top of that, I love Our Blessed Virgin Mary. REV. DR. While everyone is urged to exert necessary precautions to prevent the spread of this malady, even if it necessitates staying away from Mass if one is experiencing unusual symptoms, no one who is in good health is discouraged from coming to church for fear of unnecessary physical contact with other people. Exercise good judgment in communicating with other people by use of positive language, a wave or a bow instead of hand to hand contact. This is common sense which no one will disagree with. Please be advised that all extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist always sanitize their hands before distributing Holy Communion during Mass. 2020 Catholic Charity Fund Appeal“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” Saint Teresa of Calcutta The 2020 Catholic Charity Appeal has begun. Many parishioners have already received a letter from Bishop Thomas Tobin asking for their annual donation. If anyone has already responded and sent in a contribution to the Diocese of Providence please be assured that the amount will be applied to whichever of the three parishes you are officially registered. During the weekend of March 22 an in-pew appeal will take place for those who have not responded, with the hope that everyone be given an opportunity to support this annual fundraising effort. Your sacrifice will empower the multiple ministries of the Diocese of Providence to serve the many thousands of people throughout the state who are in need. Your generosity in the past has been very much appreciated, and the hope is that you will continue to help this year. Please keep the success of the Appeal in your prayers. Eligibility is determined by parish membership and Mass attendance. Requests should be submitted in writing with your contact information and sent to Father Ed at the Parish Offices at 5 Gibbs Street, North Providence. For Your Lenten AlmsgivingSaint Edward Food & Wellness Center is in serious need of supplies such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc. which are staple items our clients seek but are not always available unless we purchase them on sale at the Dollar Store on occasion. If you are thinking of an idea for an extra Lenten sacrifice maybe you could buy them on sale and bring them to Mass. These items are far more needed than non-perishable food, so you can donate them rather than purchasing food. Your support is greatly appreciated. Saint Anthony AppealLetters were sent out to all registered parishioners requesting the customary annual donation to supplement church expenses. In particular the necessary funds that were expended for the major repairs on the church were higher than anticipated and substantially impacted our savings. Thus it is critical that funds are raised to complete the work. There is an ongoing request for contributions. Donations of $250 or more will be recognized by an engraved brick in a memorial walkway around the church. Larger donations of $500 or more will be acknowledged on a memorial wall of 12 inch square tiles mounted along the eastern wall of the church. Donors will be contacted early spring with details on the memorials. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. The itinerary will include visits to the major areas in Israel where Jesus lived and conducted his public ministry culminating in His death and resurrection in Jerusalem. There will be Mass celebrated throughout the tour in special churches of historic significance. The itinerary is very comprehensive, including most meals, and allows for some time for optional activities such as a visit to the Dead Sea. But everyone will visit the Jordan River baptismal site, enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, visit the Mount of Olives, and see the famous Western wall of the ancient temple of Jerusalem, along with other highlights.
