Essay on My Favourite Cricketer MS Dhoni

Below we have provided my favourite cricketer – MS Dhoni Essay in English, suitable for class 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” ~ Babe Ruth

The sports industry is full of inspirational and determined people. My favourite cricketer is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has also earned names like Mahi, Captain Cool, and MSD. Dhoni is an international Indian cricketer who plays as a middle-order batsman and a wicket-keeper.

He is also known to be a finisher in many matches. He is the only cricketer under whose captainship India has won a trophy in every ICC format. In 2011, Dhoni was also featured in the TIME’s List of 100 Most Influential People in The World.

Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand. In school, he used to play football. He played football at the district level and club level as a goalkeeper. His football coach asked him to try playing cricket.

Dhoni impressed everyone with his wicket-keeping skills and started focusing entirely on this game after the 10th standard. His favourite player at that time was Sachin Tendulkar , who he called his Hero.

In the early years of his career, Dhoni played school cricket and club cricket. He then played in the Ranji Trophy wherein he scored a half-century in his debut match.

From the years 2001 to 2003, Dhoni worked in the railways as a travelling ticket examiner. His colleagues remembered him to be honest and straight forward. After two years of working in the railways, Dhoni made his way back into cricket .

The Dhoni Era

Dhoni was picked up in the One Day International (ODI) India squad against Bangladesh. Dhoni was unable to make an impact in his first match as he got run out for a duck. But from the very next game, Dhoni started showing what he was really capable of doing. He scored an unbeaten 183 runs against Sri Lanka when Sachin Tendulkar gave away his wicket early in the game.

Dhoni helped India win matches under challenging situations. Whenever Dhoni came to bat, he accelerated the run rate and led India to victory. He was also holding the number one spot in ICC ODI Rankings in the year 2006.

Dhoni is an aggressive ball hitter and one of the fastest runners between the wickets. He is always praised by cricketers worldwide for his light speed stumping. He holds the record for the highest number of stumping by any wicket-keeper.

The starting of the 2007 Cricket World Cup was a bit rough for our beloved Dhoni. In two matches, he got out for zero. This agitated and angered some Indian political activists so much that they vandalised and damaged his house in Ranchi.

But Dhoni was not one to give up. He played some fantastic and record-breaking knocks after this episode. He regained his top spot in the ICC rankings, and his batting average per match reached a good 70 runs. Because of this spectacular display of performance, Dhoni was made the captain of the Indian cricket team in the year 2007.

Dhoni’s Captaincy

Dhoni is regarded as the most successful Indian captain, even by Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. It was under his captaincy that the Indian cricket team rose to the top spot in the ICC Rankings.

Under him, India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. In the final against Sri Lanka, India had already lost three of its best batsmen. Dhoni promoted himself in the order and went out to bat before the in-form Yuvraj Singh.

He built a great partnership with Gautam Gambhir and ended the match for India with a six. He scored an unbeatable 91 runs and was also named the Man of the Match. The bat that he used in the match was auctioned and sold for Rs. 72 lakhs. All of this money went to his wife’s foundation that helps take care of and support orphaned children.

Dhoni has also captained the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was contracted by CSK for a hefty 1.5 million dollars in the year 2010, thus making him the most expensive player to be auctioned in IPL for the first season. Under his captainship, CSK were declared winners in the years 2010, 2011 and 2018.

Born to Mrs Saroj Kohli and Late Mr Prem Kohli on 5th November in 1988 in Delhi, my favourite cricketer Virat Kohli is a legend in cricket. Soon, he became an expert at his game and captained his school’s cricket team. Later, when he got selected for the Under-19 cricket team, he became the captain, and under his captaincy, the team defeated the South African team and won the World Cup in 2008. In the same year, he debuted with the Indian senior cricket team. From then onwards, there was no turning back. Virat Kohli made new records and broke several records of the previous cricketers.

He brought the fitness trend to the cricket team and the whole country. Many youngsters are inspired by not just his fitness but also his style. Virat Kohli is known as “the run-machine” and is the inventor of “class cricket” in Indian cricketing history.

Virat Kohli is my favourite cricketer because of many reasons. Many times the Indian team achieved victory because of the great captaincy and batting of Virat Kohli. He is a good leader; he knows how to take the team forward.

His nickname is Cheeku, and he loves rajma chawal. But he is very health-conscious, so he usually eats healthy fruits and vegetables. He follows a vegan diet. Apart from his cricketing skills, I also admire his looks and style. He also features in many advertisements. My friends and I are inspired by him and wish to play like him one day. We want to make the country feel proud as he does.

He is a disciplined sportsman who never gives up and tries his best till the end. Cricket is his passion, and he worked hard to achieve success in it. No matter what others say about his current form, he will always be my favourite sportsman.

Writing an essay helps a child in many ways. It enhances their creative writing and critical thinking abilities. It teaches them how to express and communicate their ideas through written communication. They learn new things when they write about a new topic. Writing in the English language helps them get a good command of the language, which helps them later in life.

Writing about Virat Kohli can help children in learning a lot from him. He is a strong and disciplined individual who works hard and motivates others to work hard. He followed his passion and achieved success at a very young age because of his determination and focus. Many life lessons can be learnt from him.

Keuntungan Bermain Poker Online Dibandingkan Poker Tradisional

It lasts up to five days and two countries play against each other in this match. Next up, we have the National League Systems, also called counties in England. Their duration is for three to four days.

Limited Overs Cricket is another type where the number of episodes decides the format and length of the game. Both the teams get to play a single inning and thus results are determined.

However, if it rains, they apply the Duck worth- Lewis Method to attain results. One of the most common formats is One Day International also known as ODI. Cricket is a very popular game and is played at both national and international levels. This game originated in England. Cricket was introduced to the Indians by the British in the early 1700s. This game rules in everyone’s heart in India and so it can be called the “king of the games”. Millions of fans watch this game, and there is an air of excitement everywhere. It is enjoyed by the old and young. Over the years, this game has gathered a huge fan-base, who connects emotionally with it in our country.

History of Cricket

The game of cricket goes long back to British times. When it was introduced in India, very few people played this game. The Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh brought this game into limelight. He was a great patron of sports. He played cricket and he had his own team. Cricket was his second love after his kingdom. He was the man behind the golden history of cricket due to his passion for the game. His team Patiala XI was the best team during that time and he was the captain of the Indian team. He himself sponsored his teams for the tours to England.

How is Cricket Played?

Cricket is a game played by two teams of eleven players each on a pitch with two sets of three stumps, which are called wickets. The bowler bowls the ball down the pitch to the batsman of the opposing team, who must defend the wickets in front of which he stands. The target of the game is to score as many runs as possible.

Runs are scored by individual players by running on the playing strip (called pitch) between the wickets, or by hitting a ball that flies outside the boundary of the playground or which falls inside the boundary but bounces or rolls outside. When the balls go directly outside the boundary, the batsman scores six runs, and when the ball falls within the boundary but rolls outside then the batsman scores four runs. The opponent team will bowl and field and their objective is to take the wickets for each of the batsmen playing on the pitch.

A batsman can be dismissed in one of several ways: by the bowler hitting the wicket with the ball, which is called, bowled; by a fielder catching the ball hit by the batsman before it touches the ground and it is called caught; by the wicket-keeper or another fielder breaking the stumps while the batsman attempts a run and is therefore out of his ground. This is called stumped or run out. A batsman can also be dismissed if the batsman breaks the wicket with his own bat or body and this is called a hit wicket; by a part of the batsman’s body being hit by a ball that would otherwise have hit the wicket is called leg before the wicket or “lbw”.

A match consists of one or two innings, and each inning ends when the tenth batsman of the batting team is out, when a certain number of overs (an over: a series of six balls bowled) have been played or when the captain of the batting team declares ending the innings voluntarily.

Forms of Cricket

There are three forms of cricket: Test matches, one-day internationals, and T20 internationals.

Test matches are played for five days. To play this game, the players have to excel mentally and physically. This game is played in white tees and trousers. In this game, the players have to play for ninety overs each day.

In one-day internationals, the players play an inning of fifty overs. This kind of cricket is played only for a day. It was introduced in the 1980s.

T20 is the latest format of this game. In a T20 match, they play an inning of only twenty overs. This game is pretty interesting and engaging.

Achievements by the Indian Team

India won its first world cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. It was a big win in the history of cricket. Next, they won the world cup in 2011 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. India also won the T20 ICC World trophy and ICC Champions trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Besides these prestigious trophies, India has acclaimed many other victories in world cricket.

Indian Cricket Team

Cricket is played by both men and women. The captain of the women’s national cricket team is Harmanpreet Kaur. Women’s national cricket team made its first debut in 1976. Mithali Raj was the captain during the debut.

Virat Kohli is the captain of the Indian cricket team (men's). We have some great players from the past who have established themselves internationally and taken India to a very high pedestal in the world of cricket and brought pride to the country. Some of them are Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, and many more.
