World Famous Lover review: Vijay Deverakonda is in his element as a flawed man

World famous lover review: world famous lover is not a cheesy romantic story about a man hurting from inside and fighting to win back the love of his life. it is an indictment of the male gaze that fails to see the other side of the story: women..

movie review of world famous lover

World Famous Lover movie cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajessh World Famous Lover director: Kranthi Madhav World Famous Lover ratings: 3 stars

Writing is a lonely job. And if you aspire to write one of the greatest fiction books of the 21st century, it may be the loneliest job ever, which may also deprive you of the sense of reality, making you oblivious to the pain of your loved ones. Gautham (Vijay Deverakonda) was not ready for the sacrifices that he would have to make should he follow his passion. He saw an opportunity to quit his well-paying 9-5 job, and he took it without thinking twice. He stayed home trying to beat his writer’s block and author a book that moves people and speaks directly to their souls. His wife Yamini (Raashi Khanna) picked up the responsibility of running the house, thanks to her high-paying job.

movie review of world famous lover

Gautham sleeps in super late. He doesn’t care to bath or eat healthily. He sits in front of his writing pad for a few minutes, gives up and ends up on the couch watching cartoon shows on television. While he is at it, he dozes off. When Yamini comes home from work, he cleans himself up. Still stuck in his own world, Gautham forgets to ask Yamini about her day. He eats, makes love to her and sleeps. And then, he repeats.

Gautham is so busy wallowing in his own inability to write that he finds it almost impossible to realise his passion. He lacks discipline. He has become lazy and has fallen into a bad lifestyle. He is hurting Yamini, and he doesn’t even know it. And then the obvious happens – Yamini breaks up with him. The jolt wakes him up from the deep slumber and inspires him to write. He writes from a place of pain. His wishful fantasies guide him through the first chapters of his novel – The World Famous Lover.

Gautham’s wishful fantasies are deeply flawed. He wishes that he was not born in Hyderabad and did not go to a good college. Gautham also wishes he never met a girl like Yamini, who represents a self-reliant, economically independent and strong woman.

Festive offer

Yamini’s education and her social status inform her that she doesn’t have to put up with Gautham’s mistreatment. Gautham rather would have an uneducated and pathologically dependent woman, who has been hardwired to fear and favour everything her husband does. His wishes manifest into a character named Suvarna (Aishwarya Rajessh). She is just the opposite of Yamini. She is not educated, outspoken and more importantly, she doesn’t have a fair skin tone like Yamini. Perhaps, Suvarna’s skin colour is her biggest confidence killer.

Director-writer Kranthi Madhav treads a tricky path between being called out for playing up core tenets of a patriarchal society and receiving bouquets for experimenting with cliches. His protagonist Gautham places the foundation of a relationship between a man and a woman entirely on their physical compatibility. Everything is physical for Gautham, including love, heartbreak and pain. He can’t mentally process an emotion unless he can physically feel it. And that’s the reason why he ends up writing stories with classic archetype characters straight out of a man’s lustful dreams. A sultry woman boss openly flirting with her subordinate. Or an adventure-junkie finding out that his neighbour is an attractive, single French woman who can speak Telugu.

“We are what we write,” says Gautham. That line informs us why stories and characters that populate Gautham’s world are extremely prejudiced men. And his constant throwbacks to the “sacrifices” he made for his love Yamani or the “sacrifices” of his characters for their women are riddled with narcissism, bias and the male gaze. For ages, our movies have majorly shown us one side of the story. Kranthi picks up all the cliches that exaggerate a man’s role in holding a family together or protecting his loved ones, and turn them on their heads.

World Famous Lover is not a cheesy romantic story about a man hurting from inside and fighting to win back the love of his life. It is an indictment of the male gaze that fails to see the other side of the story: women.

If you find problems with the way Gautham fantasies about a “perfect” housewife or what his idea of “world-famous lover” is, you are not wrong. But, just hold your horses for a bit longer. It is because you are following the fantasies of a flawed, prejudiced and self-centered man. He will take some time to realize what a pain in the a** he had been.

And yes, Vijay Deverakonda is in his element here as a bleeding, wailing and reckless lover.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: The Cast Shines But That Does Little To Salvage This Badly Executed Film, Starring Vijay Deverakonda

World Famous Lover Movie Review: The Cast Shines But That Does Little To Salvage This Badly Executed Film, Starring Vijay Deverakonda

Director: Kranthi Madhav

Cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa, Izabelle Leite.

Yamini ( Raashi Khanna ) is in pain. Gautham ( Vijay Deverakonda ), a wannabe writer, is too withdrawn to notice it. When he looks at her, she looks like someone who is about to cry. 'Is it one of those days?' asks the man. It's not. She is tired of her life. Of being a person who is in a relationship with a man who physically resembles the guy she's fallen for in college, but isn't the same person. She breaks down at this negligence. She wails like a wounded dog and says: 'Praanam leni vasthuvuni kuda sariga chusukokapothe, padaipothundhi. Nenu manishini. Naaku praanamu undhi, manasu kuda.' [Even a lifeless thing gets ruined when not dealt with care. I'm a human being. I have life. I have a heart too.]

I don't know what this scene/this pain reminds others of, but it reminded me of myself. Of my love for cinema and how that love is taken for granted and abused every other Friday. I know good art takes time, but I am just as heartbroken and weary as Yamini. I also have a headache. There are only so many times I can hear Deverakonda shout the name Yamini before my brain starts reacting badly.

World Famous Lover is as lacklustre in spirit as the title. The film markets itself as an anthology of four different kinds of love. It shouldn't have, because that is misleading. It is about one love story and one couple. Gautham and Yamini. It is about a man who 'thinks' he should be a writer, his inability to prove that assumption, and the frustrations that follow. Just like Baumbach's Marriage Story, here too, we are more exposed to the man's pain, but snippets reveal the woman's story as well. As such, the film is about whether redemption and reward are on the cards for Gautham or not.

Kranthi Madhav's story has a rather promising premise. An entitled man who thinks he deserves everything he wants is questioned by the woman he loves. This is supposed to start a journey of self-discovery, a discovery of his privilege, which is supposed to happen through his writing. But the way Madhav writes the screenplay, this barely gets conveyed. When the realisation finally happens, it is one scene away from the final scene. By then the audience is made to sit through glorified violence and self-harm, very reminiscent of a signature Deverakonda outburst — they keep bringing the trope back and get annoyed at us for pointing it out; only, this time, it barely makes an impact. Instead of being a crucial moment that rewrites the whole film, it reads more like an afterthought.

To the writer's credit, the story between Srinu (Devarakonda) and Suvarna ( Aishwarya Rajesh ), the strongest of the lot, manages to convey this internalised bias of the writer rather effectively. Gautham's obnoxious idea of compromise and his unwillingness to look at his flaws are seamlessly imbued into this story. The way Suvarna gradually finds financial independence, only to fall back into his arms is the modern man in Gautham colliding with his pain. Aishwarya gives life to this walking-talking stereotype of a "small-town" woman, a dark-skinned, supposedly illiterate woman who is willing to do anything to keep her marriage alive. Her flawless Telangana dialect and the way she inhabits this woman, adds life to a film that looks rather saturated otherwise. Vijay, too, shines in the role of Srinnayya, as Suvarna calls him. Despite the fact that he plays a hard-to-love man with a caustic tongue who reserves all his charm for a woman that isn't his wife — Catherine Tresa is effective as Smitha madam, the so-called fantasy — Deverakonda's performance, and his innate earnestness gives this bitterness a purpose, a backstory.

movie review of world famous lover

The first half of the film is highly promising. The transitions, from story to story, happen organically. The story set in Yellandu coal mines is real and humorous enough to entertain and engage. The film only hits a rough patch when the protagonist decides to break the fourth-wall by the time it reaches the interval block. Actors suddenly being aware of the camera is distracting enough, it becomes a hindrance when used ineffectively. If this is the director's way of letting his protagonist have an internal dialogue and letting the audience into his mind, then why isn't it used again? He comes back, at the end, a changed man, but why aren't we privy to that process?

Gopi Sundar's music tries to smoothen the rough edges, to no avail. Music has many powers, but rescuing a bad screenplay isn't one of them. The editor partially has that power, and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao tries to limit the damage with sharp, abrupt cuts, just as abrupt as the screenplay.

Even though the script slowly takes nuance away from her character, Raashi Khanna tries her best to convince us of Yamini's pain and the complexity of her feelings. As the film moves along, the scene transitions, too, get haphazard. Instead of spending time on the man and woman at the crux of the story, Madhav chooses to move to Paris. And the fact that the story revolves around a cliche as old as cinema doesn't help either. Suddenly, the man turns into an adrenaline junkie. There is high-stakes Russian roulette and he teaches an actual pilot the pleasures of sky-diving — too many new plot introductions and too little purpose.

The Kranthi Madhav that made Malli Malli Idhi Raani Roju  can be seen, unmistakably, in the way Izza, a French woman — Izabelle Leite is given a meaty enough role to play and she does it well — decides to wait until marriage to have sex. Apparently, we Indians are very pure like that. The only respite, then, is Jaya Krishna's cinematography, but when has Paris not looked breathtaking?

World Famous Lover has all the potential to become a romantic entertainer that is modern enough to look edgy and conservative enough to be palatable for a wide range of audience. Which is why I don't understand the film's reluctance to strengthen the story between Gautham and Yamini. We aren't given enough information about the bond they shared, and the few snippets we see are vague and shallow in the way they trace a story of love. This lack of depth makes it excruciating to sit through the motions of a violent romantic drama. When the film is about to end, Yamini's father — Jayaprakash plays him with the weariness and expertise of a man who's done this before — says this to Gautham: 'Leave me out of your pain, and leave me alone.' I never felt more represented.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Vijay Deverakonda Is Still In The Arjun Reddy Universe But With Consequences & Strong Voiced Women This Time

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Vijay Deverakonda Still In The Arjun Reddy Universe But With Consequences & Strong Voiced Women This Time

What’s Good: Vijay Deverakonda can continue to impress in a set up that he has been in twice before. Also, Aishwarya Rajesh, who left the maximum impact.

What’s Bad: The South superstar following the same graph as his last films. At least a bit change in the tone of the character would have been a breather.

Loo Break: You can clearly see when the script falls loose and decide for yourself. No need to keep it holding.

Watch or Not?: If you are Vijay’s fan, go for it. If Arjun Reddy’s, what are you even waiting for? But if not of both, royally skip.

The plot kept under the wrap till the very last day, World Famous Lover starring Vijay Deverakonda in the lead is a story about a couple, Gautham (Vijay) and Yamini (Raashi) who are going through a rough patch in their relationship. Reason being Gautham’s ambition to become a writer but his arrogance and laziness being the killer. The two are in somewhat a loveless relationship.

After looking at his descent into madness and oblivion, Yamini decides to break up with him, leading to Gautham taking his life seriously. His heartbreak gives birth to two stories, one set in a rural village in India and the other in Paris. The film while telling Gautham’s real-life story also narrates his fictional stories in parallel. This is where Gautham introduces us to Sennya (Vijay), Suvarna (Aishwarya), Smitha (Catherine) and Iza (Izabelle).

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Script Analysis

The script which for sure looked promising on paper as the part where parallel stories are playing while they are been written by an author who is experiencing utmost grief is fascinating. But on screen, it creates the magic in parts. The biggest turnoff being setting Vijay in the same staple set up that we have already seen him. All credits to the actor for getting the accent, body language and anger right, but we have already seen a lot of it from him.

The highest point of the script has to be the first story that Gautham narrates. The love triangle between Sennya, Suvarna and Smitha intrigued me the most and made me root for it. Especially the end where the devoted wife gives it back to an unfaithful husband and is a fresh breeze in the south cinema.

The writing for sure falls flat at the beginning of the second half, and you don’t need to be a scholar to get that. Gautham’s real-life story is what rescues us from the second fictional story that is super predictable.

Also how good is it that writers have given the women in this universe strong voices to stand for themselves. Unlike the last few films that clearly lacked the representation.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Star Performance

Said to be Vijay’s last romantic film for a while at least and confirmed by the actor himself, seems to be the perfect decision. The character that the actor is playing looks like a cakewalk for him. He is impressive and for sure appealing but not a revelation or new. Also extra points for not endorsing abs and flaunting a body that looks relatable.

Talking about actresses, this film has four of them. My favourite with any doubt and has to be Aishwarya who plays Suvarna. The actress plays a devoted wife to a husband who is almost on the verge of cheating with her. In a complete de-glam look, the actress makes us feel her pain and I am in love with her performance. (PS: Aishwarya also excelled in his last week release Vaanam Kottattum).

Others including Raashi, Catherine and Izabelle play their parts with conviction and dedication and are impressive.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Direction, Music

Talking about direction, the film follows a non-linear style of storytelling. This might be an issue for some but is handled quite nicely without going haywire. Kranthi seems to be aware what Vijay fans expect out him and he just tried to cater them that.

Maybe changing the tone of the character at least when he wasn’t broken, would have done wonders to the part and enhanced Vijay’s performance as well. The fictional story between Sennya, Suvarna and Smitha shot amidst a coal mine has to be the best piece of direction in terms of the production design, camera and emotions. Also, it was a good decision to show that the wrong behaviour has consequences.

Coming to music, the songs may sound good on the point they are used but don’t seem to have high recall value. The theme music of the film is a soothing tune though.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: The Last Word

World Famous Lover is a continuation of the ‘protagonist in anger and ready to destroy the world genre’, that has already created a huge debate. Watch it if you endorse Vijay’s last to ‘romantic’ films. If you don’t, you have no reason to spend on this one. Also, Vijay fans will be watching him romance for the last time until he does it next after the break.

Two and a half stars!

'World Famous Lover': A Valentine's Day Downer from Deverakonda

The film also stars raashi khanna, aishwarya rajesh, catherine tresa and izabelle leite., world famous lover, 'world famous lover': a valentine's day downer from deverakonda.

The ghost of Arjun Reddy refuses to get off Vijay Deverakonda’s back, as he returns with yet another love-breakup-breakdown-sunshine saga.

World Famous Lover , directed by Kranthi Madhav and starring Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite, is Vijay’s ‘let me explain’ letter for Arjun Reddy . Just like 2019’s Dear Comrade .

But the film is undeniably beautiful and cinematic in scale.

Love Is Complicated

World Famous Lover flits between three separate story arcs, with Vijay as a constant. Subtly, and occasionally quite cheesily, the narrative and dialogue explore sexuality, caste divide, attraction, filial loyalties and more.

Where the plot thickens a bit too much, the knots are untied using very convenient twists that you can see from a mile away. But where the film wins is in the performances of the leads. Raashi finally has a role that’s more than an item number. Her emotions are genuine and make up for her hard to decipher dialogues.

But Aishwarya Rajesh is pure, understated brilliance. She acts as though every scene in the film is her last. It is hard to see as separate from her character. And it is heart-wrenching.

...And This Story Turns Out to be a Disaster

The film also stars Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite.

The pre-interval cliffhanger was a perfect way to end the film, but unfortunately, the story rapidly plummets from here. From an almost decent Valentine's Day flick, it meanders into a preteen love story. As in, a love story written by a preteen. And then it gets worse.

Isabelle Leite’s portions are disastrously half-baked. And Vijay’s character soon becomes tiresome. Whether he's ruining his own life or saving another’s, he does so by posturing. There’s this sequence where he gambles on all of his life’s savings, just to experience that "feeling".

The film also stars Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite.

To spread love and cheer on a festival day, even if it’s a festival that is fed and fuelled by the greeting card and gift industry, is natural. But World Famous Lover makes it hard. Really hard.

World Famous Lover may have been helmed by a director (Kranthi Madhav) who won the award for ‘Best Film to Watch at Home’, but despite Aishwarya's Rajesh's brilliance and Vijay Deverakonda’s charisma on screen (which is quickly wearing thin), it most certainly isn't.

Vijay should stop trying to apologise for Arjun Reddy . And stop taking up romantic films that attempt a moral high ground. They tend to fail miserably, especially because they’re rarely true to themselves.

World Famous Lover

Critics Review

Another vijay devarakonda film where women survives his abusive behaviou.

World Famous Lover in a way is a cleverly packed anthology. The different episodes of love stories are packed as different stories that the protagonist Gautham attempts to write. There is one in coal mines. There is one in a middle-class house! There is one in Paris. The prime narrative that runs through all this is the portion involving how Yamini came into Gautham's life. Stellar performances from Vijay, Aishwarya and Raashi make 'World Famous Lover' a worthy watch.

What the film tries to do is commendable, and the effort is seen on screen. It had a lot of potentials that could have been treated better to give us a much better product. Overall, World Famous Lover can be tried for the good performances of it's lead actors. (more)

Vijay Deverakonda film is about messy relationships, Arjun Reddy hangover is unmistakable

Arjun Reddy worked to some extent because it was the story of a jilted lover which was portrayed as realistically as possible. World Famous Lover turns the realism into a sobfest and it gets unimaginably boring when the story shifts to Paris. In spite of overall great performances, the film falls flat and there's nothing anyone can do about it. (more)

Slow romance

World Famous Lover has a very interesting premise but the narration is dull in the second half. The movie boasts of some great performances as Aishwarya Rajesh's track with Vijay is endearing and evokes good moments in the first half. Box office wise, things will be a bit difficult for the film as it has a serious theme and will be only liked by those who love dark romantic dramas. (more)

Technically brilliant with some great acting but emotionally overwhelming and draining!

The reason behind the stories within the story is self-explanatory and Vijay Deverakonda giving a detailed explanation is only a waste of time. The stories within the story concept only distracts the audience and a better screenplay packaging is needed (more)

Director - Kranthi Madhav

Producer - KA Vallabha

World Famous Lover is another love story from Vijay Deverakonda where he is seen in various getups including the famous Arjun Reddy avatar. What is it about? Gautham (Vijay) is a struggling writer who is madly in love with Yamini (Rashi). She is fed up of with him sitting idle all the time and breaks up with him. Then Gautham writes two stories and as he writes we gets to see him enact those characters that he is writing. Performances: Vijay Deverakonda is a fine actor who is good at showing the pain of a heartbroken lover. He once again gets to play a character that is reminiscent of Arjun Reddy. There’s nothing new that we see of him in this avatar, but his performance as Seenayya, a miner is the best thing about the film. Rashi Khanna gets to play a very emotional character and she did fine. Aishwarya Rajesh is good as the loving wife of Seenayya. Catherine appears as a lady boss and Izabelle is okay in the Paris episode. Priyadarshi plays a stock character as hero’s close buddy. Technicalities: Kranthi Madhav’s story idea is good. A writer imaging himself in the stories he writes while he is going through a breakup is a fine idea. But the film falls flat because of weak execution. There is deliberate attempt to show Vijay Deverakonda in Arjun Reddy mode that really doesn’t fit into this story and scenario. Even the imaginary stories lacked any sort of imagination. Gopi Sundar’s music is a dampener. Not even single song is worth remembering. Background score and cinematography are good, though. Production values are rich. The film is shot in rich and eye catching locations. Thumbs Up: Vijay’s performance Illandu episode Thumbs Down: Boring second half Arjun Reddy hangover Silly climax Analysis: World Famous Lover has a nice plot that would have sounded promising as a storyline. However, director Kranthi Madhav makes a mess of it by narrating it in an old fashioned way. While the actual story and characters seems to be very advanced, the characters in the imaginary stories are outdated. The film starts off on a promising note, but soon slips into regular pattern without any surprise elements. Seenayya characterization and Aishwarya’s performance as his wife is the best part of the film. Vijay really owned the screen as Seenayya, which is a bit different from the usual characters he plays. However, the storyline in Illandu episode is not novel. One would easily guess where it is going and there are some unaddressed issues like Seenayya neglecting his son. But he cares for his co-workers kids at the same time. Gautham-Yamini story is told in parts, but there is not a worthy moment in their whole story. The story shifts to Paris where another silliest love story begins. It is yet another lackluster story that doesn’t even have charming characters like we saw in Illandu story. Climax is a rip off of Arjun Reddy story and the director didn’t even had the guts to end it on a tragic note. It drags on and on until we are bored to death. Even the music and songs don’t come to our rescue. It is high time Vijay reinvents himself and come out of Arjun Reddy mode before his diehard fans gets bored of seeing the same thing again and again. World Famous Lover may get openings due to Vijay’s craze, but it doesn’t have anything that can help it become a box office success. Verdict: A Big Bore!

‘World Famous Lover’ review: A tiresome film built on an unconvincing premise

The love stories become tedious to watch despite good performances from vijay deverakonda, aishwarya rajesh and raashi khanna.

Updated - February 14, 2020 03:44 pm IST

Published - February 14, 2020 03:26 pm IST

Sangeetha Devi Dundoo

Vijay Deverakonda and Aishwarya Rajesh

Towards the end of World Famous Lover ( WFL ), when Vijay Deverakonda is seated on a park bench (can’t shake off the memories of Arjun Reddy here), looking dishevelled and drained, I was reminded of his recent statement that this film will be his last love story. It’s a good decision. Because, no matter how well he performs, it’s repetitive and tiresome to watch him as the broken man pining for his love and wasting himself. This is one portion of the story, but enough already. What makes it tougher to empathise with his character is the shaky premise of WFL.

The film comes alive when Vijay becomes Seenayya in the coal mines of Yellandu, romancing Suvarna (Aishwarya Rajesh) and Smita (Catherine Tresa); and later when he lives the high life in Paris, skydiving and serenading pilot Iza (Izabelle Leite). As the shattered aspiring writer Gautam who’s hoping for the return of good old days with Yamini (Raashi Khanna), he’s back in the Arjun Reddy zone.

  • Cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite
  • Director: Kranthi Madhav
  • Music: Gopi Sundar

The film introduces us to Gautam’s world through the listless eyes of Yamini who is bearing the brunt of his writer’s block. He depends on her for everything and yet, has stopped noticing how his downward spiral has taken a toll on her. Understandably, she walks out.

Kranthi Madhav goes back and forth, piecing together the Gautam-Yamini romance from the sunny college days. It comes in spurts to show us Gautam of the past, before he became this self-pitying wreck.

Raashi takes a detour from the bright and chirpy parts we’ve seen her of late, to play the brooding Yamini. Her eyes do most of the talking, effectively. The dubbing could have been better though. In some places, I had to strain to catch the words.

The film’s best portions happen in Yellandu. Vijay aces the part of Seenayya, spouting Telangana dialect. The initial interaction between him and his father (Anand Chakrapani) brings in the laughs, and also lays bare their differences. Seenayya is not a bad guy; when he counsels someone to save money for his son’s education, it stems out of his own disappointments. However, he’s unfair to Suvarna who does everything she can to keep the family boat from rocking, when Seenayya romances his boss Smita. Aishwarya is a natural and plays Suvarna with conviction. This is an actor to watch out for.

Jayakrishna Gummadi’s cinematography accentuates the rugged milieu of Yellandu as much as it revels in the effortless luxury of Paris, later. Gopi Sundar’s music tonally shifts between the different stories and the ‘My Love’ track stands out.

Vijay morphs into a wealthy bachelor in Paris, romancing the French pilot Iza (Izabelle has a charming screen presence). It’s the woman, again, bearing the brunt of his recklessness.

The lead pairs of the different love stories take up most of the screen time that other characters get limited scope — like Anand Chakrapani, and Priyadarshi who appears in an extended cameo.

By the time the different stories are tied together and Gautam, the writer, understands that it’s he who has been insensitive to the women and needs course correction, it’s a long and tiring journey.

As for the cheesy title of the film, it’s tough to discuss it without throwing in a spoiler. So we’ll let that be.

World Famous Lover movie review : Aishwarya Rajesh steals the show, but this Vijay Deverakonda film is a mess

Language: Telugu

Vijay Deverakonda and Raashi Khanna-starrer World Famous Lover is a film which toys around with the idea of turning one’s life into a book, or maybe it is the other way around, where writing a book teaches you a lot about life.

It oscillates between fantasy and reality, fiction and non-fiction, and a heartwarming portrayal of romance and not understanding anything about it at all. Another way of reading the film is the story arises from a conflict between a woman, who does not understand anything about a writer’s block, and a man, who is oblivious to the emotions of his partner. Or maybe, it is the story of a dreamer, who wants more time to find his soul, but life keeps throwing lemons at him. Or could this be about a man, who is trying to figure out his life through the stories he writes? World Famous Lover has traces of all these elements. The concoction throws you off balance because it just does not know how to build a strong conflict between the two lead characters.

The film follows the lives of Gautham (Deverakonda) and Yamini (Khanna), who are in a live-in relationship. Gautham, we are told, has taken a break from his corporate job to finish writing a book, but Yamini grows restless that he has not delivered on his promises even after a year. She believes he has no focus, is lost in his own world, and is utterly unempathetic to her feelings. When the two spar over these issues, it sets Gautham on a path to discover his voice, and prove to Yamini he is still the same person who she fell in love with.

World Famous Lover is a lot more palatable when you watch it as Gautham’s stream of consciousness since he frequently breaks the fourth wall, and talks to us about his life, his idea of romance, and his belief system. However, it is never clear why he does not share any of this with Yamini. When she tells him that he is not the same person anymore, he refuses to accept her argument, and does not even try to tell her he has already written quite a lot. It is impossible to know what he has written but considering that his first work was a non-fiction book based on economics, we are forced to convince ourselves he is struggling to find his voice in order to write fiction. But that is hardly the crux of the inner conflict Gautham faces.

The truth is he is utterly confused, and has no idea what Yamini tries to tell him. When she breaks down, saying that he has ruined her life, he takes it as a challenge to prove he can write well. This chasm between what she expects from him and what he understands is consistent throughout the film. It hardly gives us scope to empathise with the reality of Gautham and Yamini. Their reality is terribly boring but then Kranthi Madhav, the director and writer of the story, makes up with a beautiful fantasy. That makes it all the more difficult to write off World Famous Lover completely.

In Madhav’s version of fantasy, Gautham turns into Seenayya, a coal-mine worker, who is married to Suvarna (Aishwarya Rajesh). The two barely see each other eye-to-eye but Suvarna loves him unconditionally, even when he starts flirting with an officer (Catherine Tresa) in his company. This segment in World Famous Lover is so beautifully shot and written, apart from terrific performances by both Aishwarya and Deverakonda, it makes you wonder if this is the actual love story which Kranthi Madhav wanted to tell.

There is one scene in particular, where Suvarna finds out about Seenayya’s newfound fascination with a colleague, which breaks her heart. However, when she realises he is still a loving husband who cares for her, her tears evaporate instantly. It is this dazzling chemistry and bittersweet romance between the two actors that make you root for them. Aishwarya steals the thunder, and it is a pity her heartfelt performance is buried in a film which is so confused about what it wants to say. Then there is another version of the fantasy, where Gautham meets a pilot, Iza (Izabelle Leite), in Paris, and their fleeting romance makes you smile. Newcomer Izabelle is well-cast in the role, and she makes a good impression.

The biggest letdown is the writing, especially in terms of how it treats Khanna’s character throughout the film. The actress channelises all her energy and emotions into delivering a heartbreaking performance but the film does not do justice to her. In fact, the entire third act of the film feels so redundant and lazy that one cannot help but feel bad for the actors, who make an earnest attempt to make some sense of their arguments. Advertisement

Deverakonda finds himself trapped in a film which demands too much from him but his performance is only as good as the writing in the film. He shines the most as a coal mine worker, and is good as a radio station manager in Paris, but as a writer, he struggles to get a grip over what h is trying to drive home.

World Famous Lover is like reading a 400-page novel, which has a beautiful section that runs for 100 pages in between. After reading it, you might want to revisit those 100 pages over and over again because every sentence has soul in it. If only the rest of the film was as beautiful as the love story between Seenayya and Suvarna.

Outstanding concept, heart touching story,it's teaches us no one is wrong or right in relationship,if we stated thinking on behalf of gautham,we found gautham is right but at the end or a beginning we found yasnim is right. It's all about how we are thinking and how much we are mature.

World Famous Lover movie review: Vijay Deverakonda film is about messy relationships, Arjun Reddy hangover is unmistakable

World famous lover movie review: it appears vijay deverakonda’s fascination with dysfunctional relationships continues; as much as it tries, the arjun reddy syndrome is pretty evident..

World Famous Lover Director : Kranthi Madhav Cast : Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite

World Famous Lover stars Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite in prominent roles.

Kranthi Madhav’s World Famous Lover is an intense romantic drama built on the conundrum of compromise, sacrifice and selflessness. The film follows a struggling writer – played by Deverakonda – and the events that follow in his life after he gets dumped by his girlfriend (Raashi Khanna). Taking inspiration from the line from Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar that goes – “to become an artist you need heartbreak”; the film allows one to differentiate between fantasy and reality through the stories Vijay creates while imagining himself in different characters and with different women.

If Arjun Reddy was a world created by a selfish, hot-headed and alcoholic surgeon, World Famous Lover is the manifestation of a disgruntled writer who has to go through multiple heartbreaks to truly understand what he’s messed up in reality. Somewhere, the film tries to emphasize on the fact that it takes a lot of effort and commitment to make relationships work and it isn’t as easy as how it’s usually portrayed in movies. This is effectively portrayed through the relationship of Gautam (Vijay) and Yamini (Raashi Khanna). Yamini feels entrapped in a loveless relationship which once was full of life. When she decides to leave Gautham, he hopes to win her back by writing again, and we are introduced to the world of Seenayya (Vijay Deverakonda), Suvarna (Aishwarya Rajesh), Smitha (Catherine Tresa) and Isa (Izabelle Leite). Through each story, Gautam learns something about love and the experience helps him understand what went wrong in his relationship with Yamini. But when writing stops, reality hits him hard like a ton of bricks.

World Famous Lover as four leading ladies paired with Vijay Deverakonda.

Call it obsession or Arjun Reddy syndrome, Vijay Deverakonda is starting to get fascinated with the idea of messy and dysfunctional relationships. As much as you want to treat World Famous Lover as an original story, you can’t ignore the Arjun Reddy hangover, especially in the second half and towards the climax. Of the four stories, the segment featuring Vijay as Sreenu and Aishwarya Rajesh as Suvarna really stands out, and it deserved to be made into a complete film. Thanks to the Telangana dialect and some quirky writing, Vijay’s performance in this segment really establishes the fact that he’s still got lot of untapped potential. Raashi Khanna as Yamini shines in what’s supposedly one of her most intense characters.

Arjun Reddy worked to some extent because it was the story of a jilted lover which was portrayed as realistically as possible. World Famous Lover turns the realism into a sobfest and it gets unimaginably boring when the story shifts to Paris. In spite of overall great performances, the film falls flat and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

Kranthi Madhav is the writer and director of the 2020 Telugu-language Indian romantic drama film World Famous Lover. Starring in the movie with Vijay Deverakonda are Catherine Tresa, Izabelle Leite, Raashii Khanna, and Aishwarya Rajesh. K. A. Vallabha produces it under the Creative Commercials label. Despite Aishwarya Rajesh’s performances being acclaimed, the film received negative reviews from both critics and audiences.

Gautham declares in prison at the start of the movie that he too has a story to tell. The story of Gautham and Yamini is trimmed to. They share a residence together. Gautham is working towards his goal of being a writer. Gautham receives mother-like care from Yamini, who also consistently supports his choices. But she doesn’t see him putting in any effort for his dream and is fed up with her routine life. She eventually breaks up with Gautham.

This makes Gauthum start writing again and he writes a story that takes place in Yellandu. The protagonist Srinu is a union leader in the coal mines and is married to Suvarna unwillingly and the couple has a 5-year old son. The newly appointed officer, Ms. Smitha gets close to Srinu, unaware that he is married. Srinu does not disclose his marital status either and starts to avoid his own wife Suvarna. Suvarna suspects that her husband is having an extra-marital affair but doesn’t confront him.

Instead, she decides to pursue her career. She tops her examinations and it is published in the local newspaper, causing Smitha realise that Srinu is married, that too with a son. Srinu upon rushing home finds Suvarna in a modern dress. She tells him that she’ll be whatever he wants her to be, including wearing revealing clothes and make-up. All this made Srinu understand his mistake and go back to loving his wife. The story ends with a note from Gautham saying that Srinu sacrificed everything to be with his wife.

World Famous Lover is a film that has created a good buzz in the last few days. It has released today and let’s see how it is.

Gautam(Vijay Devarakonda) is a struggling writer who lives in his own world. He ignores his girlfriend Yamini(Raashi Khanna) completely. After a point, Yamini gets very upset and breaks up with him. Realizing his mistake, Gautam gets back to his senses and wins Yamini and her love back. Well, how does he do that and where do all the other heroines Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Teresa, and Isabella feature in this setup?

Plus Points:

As always, Vijay Devarakonda does a good job. He as the struggling writer is okay but Vijay as Seenayya, the Singareni employee was lovely to watch on screen. The way he speaks the language and his chemistry with Aishwarya and Catherine is very good.

Speaking of Aishwarya, she is the best part of the film. You will fall in love with her role as she does a superb job with her girl next door character. Her emotional outburst and the way she showcases emotions with her eyes most of the time is very good.

Raashi Khanna too, does an amazing job as she sheds her glamorous image and opts for something performance-oriented. Raashi as Yamini is especially good in her emotional avatar and dominates Vijay in many scenes.

Catherine Teresa is neat in her role and does what is expected of her. In all the love stories, the Telangana story featuring Aishwarya, Catherine, and Vijay is the best and has good moments. The first half has some good scenes and the drama showcased is good.

Minus Points:

The film has various issues and these slowly come out in the second half. There was absolutely no need to showcase Vijay in such an intense avatar. His get up and emotional outburst remind us of Arjun Reddy instantly.

Also, the climax looks fake as things could have been ended at the press conference scene to make a good and justifiable ending. Just to have a happy ending, the makers spoil the stance of Raashi’s role and made things cinematic. The exact problem between the lead pair is also not showcased well.

The Paris episode is outright boring and has not many exciting scenes. Though all the stories are connected well, their relation to the actual theme of the story is not shown well. Why does Vijay’s writer’s character behave so violently is not justified well.

Vinay needs to tone done his acting as he is getting repetitive in all breakup love stories which has now become boring. The film is a serious drama and has no entertainment at all which can be a big letdown for the general audience.

Technical Aspects:

The production values of the film are top-notch as the film looks rich in every scene. The camera work is amazing as each love story has a different texture. Music is the biggest drawback as the songs and BGM by Gopi Sundar is disappointing. Vijay Devarakonda has not been styled well. Dialogues are pretty good and those written for Yamini and Suvarna’s role are just amazing.

Coming to the director Kranthi Madhav, his story idea is contemporary and he has connected them well. But his ending, emotions in the Paris love story take the film down. His narration did not give proper justification to the characters as characters like Raashi are not justified at all. Also, there was good scope for romance and good music but he did not make use of it either making it a tedious watch.

On the whole, World Famous Lover has a very interesting premise but the narration is dull in the second half. The movie boasts of some great performances as Aishwarya Rajesh’s track with Vijay is endearing and evokes good moments in the first half. Box office wise, things will be a bit difficult for the film as it has a serious theme and will be only liked by those who love dark romantic dramas.

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Tiresome Watch

World Famous Lover Movie Review: Tiresome Watch

Movie: World Famous Lover Rating: 2/5 Banner: Creative Commercials Cast: Vijay Deverakonda, Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa and Izabelle Leite and others Music: Gopi Sundar Cinematography: Jaya Krishna Gummadi Editing: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao Producer: K. A. Vallabha Presenter: K. S. Rama Rao Story, screenplay, and direction: Kranthi Madhav Release date: Feb 14, 2020

The youth sensation Vijay Deverakonda has come up with another movie. Touted to be an intense romantic entertainer, ‘World Famous Lover’ helmed by Kranthi Madhav has Raashi Khanna, Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa, and Izabelle Leite. Vijay romancing four heroines has generated a lot of interest.

Let’s find out whether Vijay Deverakonda charmed us again or not.

Story: For Gautam (Vijay Deverakonda) writing is passion. He leaves a high-paying job to pen a novel but could not succeed at writing even after many months and he also neglects his live-in partner Yamini (Raashi Khanna) forcing her to walk out of this relationship.

After Yamini breaks up with him, Gautam starts penning a novel named ‘World Famous Lover’ and imagines himself as the protagonists of the two stories he wrote in his book and thus we see him in the role of a coal miner Seenayya and as a business executive in Paris. Will he finish the book and would these stories change him as a person?

Artistes’ Performances: At places, Vijay Deverakonda seemed like repeating his ‘Arjun Reddy’ act but he definitely has given his best for the different roles he had enacted – that of a writer, a coal mine worker, and a charming business executive. We see him in different getups with various hairstyles. Performances of Vijay Deverakonda and Aishwarya Rajesh is the strongest feature of this film.

Aishwarya in the role of a small-town wife of coal miner Seenayya is very impressive. Catherine plays the role of a lady boss with ease. Raashi Khanna is sincere. Izabelle as the French pilot is apt. Priyadarshi’s regular friend’s character.

Technical Excellence: The film is made on a lavish budget for a Vijay Deverakonda movie as the visuals and production design are rich.

Love stories require soulful music but Gopi Sundar has given easily forgettable songs which is a major drawback. The cinematography is good.

Highlights: Vijay Deverakonda’s performance Aishwarya Rajesh

Drawback: Basic thread No emotional connect Dull music Boring second half

Analysis Director Kranthi Madhav impressed us with a meaningful love story ‘Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju’ which starred Sharwanand and Nithya Menon. However, his latest outing which is also a romantic drama has no soul.

Three love stories are presented in the film – one is the core thread of Gautam (Vijay D), a writer and Yamini’s love story or break-up story. The other two stories are episodes from the book Gautam writes in his novel.

The first half mostly focuses on the triangle of a coal miner Seenayya who becomes union leader, his wife Suvarna and Smitha, the welfare officer of the coal mines.

The story of Vijay, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Catherine is interesting. Though it ends on predictable lines, as long as the story proceeds on the screen we get hooked to it thanks to the performances.

But when the story of a lady pilot in Paris played by Izabelle it, the film begins to go downwards. The Paris episodes are not all interesting.

Moreover, when this story ends and the main plot of Raashi Khanna and Vijay Deverana resurface again it is pretty clear that the director has lost the plot.

Why would a writer turn such a destructive person and violent? Why he acts like what Vijay’s character did in ‘Arjun Reddy’? Just to please Vijay’s fans? The entire climax portion is like re-watching the ‘Arjun Reddy’.

First and foremost, there is a big problem in the core story of Raashi Khanna and Vijay Deverakonda which doesn’t have any emotional connection. Plus, there is no freshness either.

Kranthi Madhav’s ideas to establish the sacrifices one should make in love relationships seem forcible.

Despite Vijay Deverakonda putting his best and somewhat okay first half, “World Famous Lover” turns into a boring watch towards the end. This film reiterates that Vijay Deverakonda should reinvent and think afresh in his career.

Bottom line: Arjun Reddy hangover

Jagan and Naidu deeply saddened over Telugu man's killing in US

Review: the revolution rocks the most hard-core prince audience ever at first avenue.

A tall man wore a purple-and-black paisley suit with a white ruffled shirt. One fellow donned a purple sequined fedora with a matching blazer. A blonde woman sported a purple jean jacket with silver studs over her right shoulder.

There were enough purple outfits and T-shirts to think it might have been a Vikings rally. But if you didn't have a pendant of Prince's glyph, you might have felt out of place.

Friday saw the most hard-core Prince audience that ever witnessed his heyday band, the Revolution, in concert at First Avenue.

Fams (Prince didn't like the word fans) flew in from New Zealand and Canada and from Atlanta to Los Angeles to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie "Purple Rain," which made Prince and the downtown Minneapolis nightclub in which it was filmed world-famous.

For the Purple faithful, it was a special night full of the familiar and the nostalgic. They got to hear Dr. Fink jam on "Baby, I'm a Star," Lisa Coleman ask "Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?" in "1999″ and Wendy Melvoin play the opening guitar notes of "Purple Rain" that she composed at the age of 19.

The Revolution's first concert in 4½ years certainly wasn't as emotional and cathartic as its trio of First Avenue gigs in September 2016, just a little more than four months after Prince died. Friday's show wasn't fun in the sun like the Revolution's local performances at Rock the Garden in 2017 and the Basilica Block Party in 2018.

But the joy in the room was palpable as 1,500 Prince lovers sang the opening verse of "Raspberry Beret" and delivered the "woo-hoos" on "Purple Rain." Dutifully waving their arms to the latter song, it didn't matter that they weren't as in sync as the fans in the scene from the movie. After all, this was the Revolution performing Prince songs live at First Avenue. What more could Prince aficionados ask 40 years after "Purple Rain"?

Well, they could ask if there were still tickets available for Saturday's reprise at the Minneapolis club (there were).

The Revolution concerts are part of an unofficial Prince Week in the Twin Cities. Activities continued with a block party Saturday open to the public by the Prince mural on 1st Avenue as well as panel discussions and concerts part of the official Celebration 2024 at the State Theatre and Paisley Park in Chanhassen.

On Friday, the Revolution brought along a secret weapon: Judith Hill, one of Prince's protégés from late in his career. She handled lead vocals on four numbers — "The Beautiful Ones," "When Doves Cry," "Kiss" and "Baby, I'm a Star" — bringing a soulfulness and vocal range to suggest his soaring high notes, thrilling falsetto and incomparable passion. She funked up "Kiss" with Aretha-evoking sass and gave a new meaning to the sound of doves crying. Hill's selections ranked among the crowd favorites, along with the hard-grooving "America."

After a week's rehearsal in the Twin Cities and one practice with Hill, the Revolution sounded solid. Drummer Bobby Z didn't get a moment to catch his breath between songs as he played more fills than he ever did when Prince was boss from 1979 to '86.

Melvoin, who shared lead vocals with bassist BrownMark, made a heartfelt speech near the end of the 80-minute performance and expressed her love for each of the Revolution's members.

"We love doing this and we love doing it for you guys," she told the appreciative crowd. "We're missing [Prince] a lot. We're not pretending to be him onstage. We're just trying to make him proud."

They did. Once again.

Jon Bream has been a music critic at the Star Tribune since 1975, making him the longest tenured pop critic at a U.S. daily newspaper. He has attended more than 8,000 concerts and written four books (on Prince, Led Zeppelin, Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan). Thus far, he has ignored readers’ suggestions that he take a music-appreciation class.

Bella Hadid Wears the Naked Dress to End All Naked Dresses

By Hannah Jackson

Anthony Vaccarello finally figured out how to reproduce his collection of ultra-sheer pantyhose dresses. Bella Hadid hit Cannes in look seven from the Saint Laurent fall 2024 show: a halter dress featuring 10 denier hosiery cups, a knotted pantyhose bodice, and a below-the-knee skirt with a control top hemline.

Hadid, styled by Molly Dickson, leaned into the Old Hollywood glamour that has become synonymous with the Cannes Film Festival, adding a pair of mahogany peep-toe ankle strap heels and an enormous pair of drop earrings from Chopard.

This look fits into Hadid’s latest sartorial M.O. of sheer earthy tones that can only be described as “sexy nymph.” While promoting her fragrance, Orebella, in New York, the model wore a diaphanous nude Dior slip dress by John Galliano, as well as a cream-colored Rokh dress with a lace bodice. And yesterday in Cannes, she further explored brown tones in a simple tank dress . But this look—with only some extremely well-placed seams preserving her modesty—is by far her boldest to date.

When asked about how he would manufacture these ephemeral pieces from the collection, Vaccarello told Vogue, “Don’t even ask me about production—I can’t tell you.” This being the first instance the delicate outfits have been spotted on the red carpet speaks to Hadid’s risk-taking style. Even if she is the only person who ever wears one of these sheer Saint Laurent looks out in the world (let’s see if she can make it to the end of the night without any snags) the fact that Vaccarello was readily willing to make one for her speaks to Hadid’s immense power in the fashion industry.

And if this is Hadid’s wardrobe for her first official day of events in Cannes? We can only imagine what’s to come.

“Who could ask for anything more?” is a famous line from “I Got Rhythm,” a classic tune by George and Ira Gershwin that’s included in the latest show at the Ogunquit Playhouse. It’s not a bad question to ask.

WHAT: “Crazy For You”

You’ve got two solid stars up front, dozens of attractive singers and dancers behind them, and a wealth of both clever and romantic Gershwin songs. And, as if that weren’t enough, the inimitable Sally Struthers comes onstage to fill two comedic roles that supply some of the best laughs in the show.

Chalk it up to a production still coming together, but “Crazy For You” showed a few seams in terms of pacing in its first performance after opening night. But the impeccably performed vintage music and the let’s-put-on-a-show spirit of the book by Ken Ludwig carried the 2½-hour show through for an entertaining afternoon at the venerable summer theater on the southern coast of Maine.

The dynamic Max Clayton sang and danced like a veteran performer who knows where the audience-pleasing theatrical goodies are hidden. His banker character Bobby soon became a faux showbiz master as he falls for a girl and decides to revive her father’s theater in Nevada rather than foreclose on the property.

Clayton’s tap talents are many and were all smoothly executed with whirling flourishes that truly dazzled. His voice sold such long-time Gershwin favorites as “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” the latter accompanied by an impressive chorus of lovely, talented female singer/dancers.

Taylor Aronson plays Bobby’s love interest Polly, adding her own very natural-sounding delivery to such classics as “Someone To Watch Over Me” and “But Not For Me.” Aronson also held her own in romantic song and dance duets with Clayton on such tunes as “Shall We Dance” and “Embraceable You.” Director Angelique Ilo’s take on the show’s original dance moves, choreographed by Susan Stroman, fit the pair well in both upfront showy and more elegantly flowing moments. The 76-year-old Struthers again proved her brilliant comedic timing in scenes with Clayton and Jim Borstelmann, the latter as a companionable British twit. Her double takes and little exclamations were hilarious as were some timeless bits of physical comedy performed by others throughout the show.

Angie Schworer and Peter Kendall got hot and heavy on “Naughty Baby” while a Cowboy Trio and a group of layabout ex-miners spiced up several pieces. Alexandria Van Paris, Delaney Bailey, Jack Doyle and Tony Roach also stood out in secondary roles. All were backed by a jauntily swinging offstage band led by Ken Clifton while some occasional onstage percussion from the players, tapping feet and more, served to bring things forward.

The sets by Adam Koch and costumes by William Ivey Long mix old-style Broadway flash and rustic cowboy folksiness, placing the audience in a world closer to an earlier, 1930s incarnation (The Gershwin brothers’ “Girl Crazy”) on which this award-winning 1992 show was based.

Silly climax. Analysis: World Famous Lover has a nice plot that would have sounded promising as a storyline. However, director Kranthi Madhav makes a mess of it by narrating it in an old fashioned way. While the actual story and characters seems to be very advanced, the characters in the imaginary stories are outdated.

  13. World Famous Lover movie review

World Famous Lover is like reading a 400-page novel, which has a beautiful section that runs for 100 pages in between.
