Put another way, you don’t have wordy documents to convey your ideas. Instead, you’ll need to be clear about selling your idea to investors by sharing all the important details in an engaging and succinct manner. 

How Many Slides Does Your Business Presentation Need?

Ideally, between 10-12 slides are best. As you plan your presentation’s content and the slides you need to accommodate it, keep in mind the following two rules.

Firstly, Guy Kawasaki’s 10-20-30 rule . Here’s what it’s about.

  • 10 slides (or around 10 slides if needed) 
  • 20 minutes (the longer your presentation, the great you risk losing your audience’s attention)
  • 30 font size (an essential that we’ll look into in the next section) 

Secondly, the 9 minute rule . Although this one’s for salespeople, it helps presenters too. Short and powerful messages leave a far deeper impression than a long, rambling presentation. Besides, you’ve your audience’s attention as well. 

So, make sure you deliver 2-3 slides per minute or try a closer version.

But, hang on. 

What if you need more slides? Say, over 12 slides. 

Over 12 slides is a no-go zone. You can go for 13, but any more and you end up choking your audience with a lot of information. Something called information overload , and you shouldn’t do that. So scale down.

Basics of Creating a Business Plan Presentation

With the recap out of the way, let’s talk about the fundamentals of preparing a business presentation that you need to keep front and center as you plan.

Your message needs to be clear and concise.

This is the heart of any successful presentation — one that makes it a winner. To ensure your message comes off coherently, explain your business idea to yourself.

The stronger your grip on your idea, the better you’d be able to explain it in a few sentences, or paragraphs at most. 

In other words, make sure you can summarize your plans into an elevator pitch. Also, don’t forget, use simple language — can a child understand your business idea? If so, you’re in the right direction. 

The presentation slides need to be easy to read and understand.

If a clear message is the heart of a prizewinning (read: investor winning) presentation, good readability and ease in understanding are the lungs, working to keep your presentation alive and breathing. 

The question now is, how do you go about creating digestible slides? Here are a couple of things that can help.

Choose a font or two that's easy to read.

Garamond, Helvetica and Gill Sans are some of the best fonts to use in a presentation .

And while you’re at it, select a readable font size. 30 points is a good benchmark size to keep in mind like we discussed above. 

Take a look at how well the font size is adjusted in this template. The changing font size also creates a visual flow that navigates viewers’ attention.

Pick a color contrast that’s easy on the eyes.

Know those bright colors that hurt the eye and are hard to look at? Steer away from them. A subtle color combination works best like in the Visme presentation template below.

Use minimal text.

To do so, read each word carefully and ask yourself: can I do just fine without this word? If you find yourself replying in the affirmative to this question, remove the word. In short, make each word earn its keep.

Here’s a template using only as many words as needed to get the message across.

Pay attention to the visual elements in each slide.

The goal is simple: you’ve got to use design elements smartly without over doing them. Sure, you’ve heard a picture is worth a thousand words, but nailing visual components in your presentation can take some effort. 

Put another way, it isn’t about throwing in a bunch of thumbnail images and icons to each slide and calling it a day. Instead, it’s about adding them thoughtfully so they’re impactful rather than extra baggage.

On the whole, aim for creating a business plan presentation that’s readable, comprehensible and clutter-free. 

10 Slides You Need in Your Business Plan Presentation

Now that you know how your slides need to look, let’s talk about another important point – your presentation’s slides and what they need to talk about. 

The bare minimum slides you need are 10. Remember, cover only one business aspect per slide.  Here’s what your slides should be about.

Slide 1: The Title Slide

This needs no explanation — it’s your introductory page that should include your business’s name, any slogan that you may have, and a logo as well (if it’s ready). Don’t forget to add your name to the slide. 

Since this is the first slide, it needs to be an impression maker. One way to create such a slide is to rely on a powerful image that showcases your business idea.

Create a Presentation From a Themed-Canvas in Visme

1. log in to visme and pick your theme.

You can also cancel the icon options to see other elements to add. Those could be Shapes , Arrows & Lines , and (drum roll, please) Animated Graphics including animated illustrations, gestures, characters and more.

4. Add More Slides

Moving on to the next slide now. Find out the Add New Slide option on the right side of your dashboard. This will get you the following screen.

But putting together one of these plans isn‘t always straightforward, so to help you out, I’ve compiled this detailed guide to sales planning — including expert-backed insight and examples — that will ensure your next sales plan is fundamentally sound and effective.

A sales plan lays out your objectives, high-level tactics, target audience, and potential obstacles. It's like a traditional business plan but focuses specifically on your sales strategy. A business plan lays out your goals — a sales plan describes exactly how you'll make those happen.

Sales plans often include information about the business's target customers, revenue goals, team structure, and the strategies and resources necessary for achieving its targets.

And if (or more likely when ) those goals change over time, you need to regularly communicate those shifts and the strategic adjustments that come with them to your team.

Your sales strategy keeps your sales process productive — it offers the actionable steps your reps can take to deliver on your vision and realize the goals you set. So naturally, you need to communicate it effectively. A sales plan offers a solid resource for that.

For instance, your sales org might notice that your SDRs are posting lackluster cold call conversion rates. In turn, you might want to have them focus primarily on email outreach, or you could experiment with new sales messaging on calls.

Regardless of how you want to approach the situation, a thoughtfully structured sales plan will give both you and your reps a high-level perspective that would inform more cohesive, effective efforts across the team.

An effective sales org is a machine — one where each part has a specific function that serves a specific purpose that needs to be executed in a specific fashion. That's why everyone who comprises that org needs to have a clear understanding of how they specifically play into the company's broader sales strategy.

Outlining roles and responsibilities while sales planning lends itself to more efficient task delegation, improved collaboration, overlap reduction, and increased accountability. All of which amount to more streamlined, smooth, successful sales efforts.

Sales planning can set the framework for gauging how well your team is delivering on your sales strategy. It can inform the benchmarks and milestones reps can use to see how their performance stacks up against your goals and expectations.

It also gives sales leadership a holistic view of how well a sales org is functioning as a whole — giving them the necessary perspective to understand whether they have the right people and tools in place to be as successful as possible.

Sales planning isn‘t (and shouldn’t) be limited to the actual sales plan document it produces. If that document is going to have any substance or practical value, it needs to be the byproduct of a thorough, well-informed, high-level strategy.

When sales planning, you have some key steps you need to cover — including:

  • Gather sales data and search for trends.
  • Define your objectives.
  • Determine metrics for success.
  • Assess the current situation.
  • Start sales forecasting.
  • Identify gaps.
  • Ideate new initiatives.
  • Involve stakeholders.
  • Outline action items.

When putting this list together, I consulted  Zach Drollinger — Senior Director of Sales at edtech provider Coursedog — to ensure the examples detailed below are sound and accurate.

Step 1: Gather sales data and search for trends.

To plan for the present and future, your company needs to look to the past. What did sales look like during the previous year? What about the last five years? Using this information can help you identify trends in your industry. While it's not foolproof, it helps establish a foundation for your sales planning process.

For the sake of example, let‘s say that I’m a new sales director for an edtech company that sells curriculum planning software to higher education institutions. My vertical is community colleges, and my territory is the East Coast.

Once I assume this new role, I‘m going to want to gather as much context as possible about my vertical and how my company has approached it historically. I would pull information about how we’ve sold to this vertical.

How much new business have we closed within it in the past five years? How does that compare to how we perform with other kinds of institutions? Are we seeing significant churn from these customers?

I would also want to get context about the general needs, interests, and pain points of the kinds of institutions I‘m selling to. I’d look for insight into figures like degree velocity, staff retention, and enrollment.

Ultimately, I would get a comprehensive perspective on my sales process — a thorough understanding of where I stand and what my prospects are dealing with. That will ensure that I can deliver on the next step as effectively as possible.

Step 2: Define your objectives.

How do you know your business is doing well if you have no goals? As you can tell from its placement on this list, defining your goals and objectives is one of the first steps you should take in your sales planning process. Once you have them defined, you can move forward with executing them.

To extend the example from the previous step, I would leverage the context I gathered through the research I conducted about both my and my prospect's circumstances. I would start setting both broader goals and more granular operational objectives .

For instance, I might want to set a goal of increasing sales revenue from my vertical. From there, I would start putting together the kind of specific objectives that will facilitate that process — like connecting with administrators from at least 30 community colleges, booking demos with at least 10 schools, and successfully closing at least five institutions.

Obviously, those steps represent a streamlined (and unrealistically straightforward) sales process, but you get the idea — I would set a concrete goal, supplemented by SMART objectives , that will serve as a solid reference point for my org's efforts as the sales process progresses.

Step 3: Determine metrics for success.

Every business is different. One thing we can all agree on is that you need metrics for success. These metrics are key performance indicators (KPIs). What are you going to use to determine if your business is successful? KPIs differ based on your medium, but standard metrics are gross profit margins, return on investment (ROI), daily web traffic users, conversion rate, and more.

I kind of covered this step in the previous example, but it still warrants a bit more elaboration. The “M” in SMART goals (“measurable”) is there for a reason. You can‘t tell if your efforts were successful if you don’t know what “successful” actually means.

The edtech sales example I‘ve been running with revolves mostly around me assuming ownership of an existing vertical and getting more out of it. So it’s fair to assume that sales growth rate — the increase or decrease of sales revenue in a given period, typically expressed as a percentage — would be an effective way to gauge success.

I might want to structure my goals and objectives around a sales growth rate of 20% Y/Y within my vertical. I would make sure my org was familiar with that figure and offer some context about what it would take to reach it — namely, how many institutions we would need to close and retain.

Step 4: Assess the current situation.

How is your business fairing right now? This information is relevant to determining how your current situation holds up to the goals and objectives you set during step two. What are your roadblocks? What are your strengths? Create a list of the obstacles hindering your success. Identify the assets you can use as an advantage. These factors will guide you as you build your sales plan.

Continuing the edtech example, I would use the historical context I gathered and the objectives I set to frame how I look at my current circumstances. I might start by considering my goal of increasing revenue by 20% Y/Y. In that case, I would look at the company's retention figures — ideally, that would give me a sense of whether that needs to be a major area of focus.

I would also try to pin down trends in the colleges that we've already closed — are there any pain points we consistently sell on? I might take a closer look at how we demo to see if we might be glossing over key elements of our value proposition. Maybe, I would use conversation intelligence to get a better sense of how reps are handling their calls.

Ultimately, I would try to identify why we're performing the way we are, the inefficiencies that might be resulting from our current strategy, and how we can best set ourselves up to sell as effectively as possible.

Step 5: Start sales forecasting.

Sales forecasting is an in-depth report that predicts what a salesperson, team, or company will sell weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually. While it is finicky, it can help your company make better decisions when hiring, budgeting, prospecting, and setting goals.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, economics has become less predictable. Claire Fenton , the owner of StrActGro — a professional training and coaching company — states, “Many economic forecasters won't predict beyond three months at a time.” This makes sales forecasting difficult. However, there are tools at your disposal to create accurate sales forecasts .

In our edtech example, I would approach this step by trying to estimate how my sales org is going to fare with the specific vertical we‘re pursuing in the time window we’ve allotted.

The method I decide to go with will depend on factors like how many concrete opportunities we have lined up — in addition to elements like the kind of historical data we have handy, how the reps working these deals tend to perform, and the degree of insight we have about our potential customers.

Let's say I consider those factors and decide to run something called a multivariable analysis. In that case, I could start by taking stock of the opportunities my reps have lined up. Then, I could look at the reps working those deals, their typical win rates, and the time they have to close — among other factors.

For instance, I might calculate that a rep working with a particularly large institution has a 50% chance of closing within the window we‘ve allotted. Using that insight, we could attribute 50% of the potential deal size to our forecast — we’d repeat that process with all of the opportunities in question and ideally get a solid sense of the revenue we can expect to generate in this window.

Step 6: Identify gaps.

When identifying gaps in your business, consider what your company needs now and what you might need in the future. First, identify the skills you feel your employees need to reach your goal. Second, evaluate the skills of your current employees. Once you have this information, you can train employees or hire new ones to fill the gaps.

Continuing the edtech example, let‘s say my forecast turned up results that weren’t in keeping with what we need to reach our goals. If that were the case, I would take a holistic look at our process, operations, and resources to pin down inefficiencies or areas for improvement.

In my search, I find that our sales content and marketing collateral are dated — with case studies that don‘t cover our product’s newest and most relevant features. I also might see that our reps don‘t seem to have too much trouble booking demos, but the demos themselves aren’t converting due to a lack of training and inconsistent messaging.

And finally, I find that a lack of alignment with marketing has prospects focusing on unrealistic outcomes our sales team can‘t deliver on. Once I’ve identified those gaps, I would start to hone in on ways to remedy those issues and improve those elements.

Step 7: Ideate new initiatives.

Many industry trends are cyclical. They phase in and out of “style.” As you build your sales plan, ideate new initiatives based on opportunities you may have passed on in previous years.

If your business exclusively focused on word-of-mouth and social media marketing in the past, consider adding webinars or special promotions to your plan.

In the edtech example we've been running with, I would likely ideate initiatives based on the gaps I identified in the previous step. I would start a push to ensure that our sales content and marketing collateral are up-to-date and impressive.

I would also consider new training programs to ensure that our coaching infrastructure is prioritizing how to conduct effective demos. Finally, I would start to work on a plan with marketing to ensure our messaging is aligned with theirs — so we can make sure prospects' expectations are realistic and effective.

One way or another, I would take the gaps I found and find concrete, actionable ways to fill them. I would make sure that these initiatives aren't abstract. Just saying, " We're going to be better at demos," isn‘t a plan — it’s a sentiment, and sentiments don't translate to hard sales.

Step 8: Involve stakeholders.

Stakeholders are individuals, groups, or organizations with a vested interest in your company. They are typically investors, employees, or customers and often have deciding power in your business. Towards the end of your sales planning process, involve stakeholders from departments that affect your outcomes, such as marketing and product. It leads to an efficient and actionable sales planning process.

This step is sort of an extension of the previous two — once I‘ve identified the key issues and roadblocks obstructing my edtech startup’s sales org, I would start identifying the right people to fulfill the necessary initiatives I've put together.

In this example, I would tap some stakeholders in charge of our sales content and marketing collateral to produce newer, more relevant case studies and whitepapers we can pass along to the institutions we're working with.

I would also go to middle management and either offer more direction for coaching on demos or bring in a third-party training service to offer more focused, professional insight on the issue.

Finally, I would connect with marketing leadership to align on the benefits and outcomes we generally stress when pitching the schools we sell to. That way, we can ensure that the institutions we're connecting with have realistic expectations of our product or service that we can speak to more clearly and effectively.

Step 9: Outline action items.

Once you have implemented this strategy to create your sales planning process, the final step is outlining your action items. Using your company's capacity and quota numbers, build a list of steps that take you through the sales process. Examples of action items are writing a sales call script, identifying industry competitors, or strategizing new incentives or perks.

In our edtech example, some key action items might be:

  • Revamp our prospecting strategy via more involved coaching and re-tooled sales messaging.
  • Revamp administrator and college dean buyer personas.
  • Conduct new trainings on demoing our software.
  • See our new prospecting strategy from ideation to execution.
  • Align with our sales enablement stakeholders for new, more relevant case studies and whitepapers.

Obviously, that list isn‘t exhaustive — but those are still the kinds of steps we would need to clarify and take to structure a more effective high-level strategy to produce different (ideally much better) results than we’ve been seeing.

One thing to keep in mind is that sales planning shouldn't end with creating the document.

You‘ll want to reiterate this process every year to maintain your organization's sales excellence.

For example, you might choose to write a 30- , 60- or 90-day sales plan depending on your current goals and the nature of your business.

Say your ultimate goal for the next quarter is $250,000 in new business. A sales plan will outline the objective, the strategies that will help you get there and how you’ll execute and measure those strategies. It will allow your whole team to collaborate and ensure you achieve it together.

Many salespeople are driven by action and sometimes long-term sales planning gets neglected in favor of short-term results.

2. Goals and targets

Define your revenue goals and the other targets sales are responsible for.

As mentioned earlier, sales goals are usually aligned with business goals. Your boardroom members typically establish the company’s revenue goals and it’s your job to achieve them.

Revenue goals will shape your sales strategy. Use them to reverse engineer quotas, sales activity and the staff you need to execute them.

Use data on sales activity and performance from previous years to calculate sales targets. You should break this down by pipeline stage and activity conducted by reps across all functions.

4. Market analysis

This section includes everything from estimated market size to your target markets and competitive advantage. It’ll include a competitive analysis of your industry to address competitors’ strengths and weaknesses. Market research is an important part of ensuring you have a viable idea.

5. Marketing plan

How you intend to get the word out about your business, and what strategic decisions you’ve made about things like your pricing strategy. It also covers potential customers’ demographics, your sales plan, and your metrics and milestones for success.

6. Logistics and operations plan

Everything that needs to happen to turn your raw materials into products and get them into the hands of your customers.

7. Financial plan

It’s important to include a look at your financial projections, including both revenue and expense projections. This section includes templates for three key financial statements: an income statement, a balance sheet, and a cash-flow statement . What Is a QBR? (And How to Plan One Your Customers Will Appreciate)

Bringing in new business is a huge part of sales — but retaining customers is essential, too. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes. Next time your internal champion pushes to renew your product or service, will they be able to make a convincing business case for keeping you? Make sure the answer is “yes” by perfecting your quarterly business review (QBR) chops.

What is a QBR? It’s a chance to build that business case throughout the year — and presenting a memorable QBR is an indispensable skill.

My team’s QBRs have improved our customer relationships , putting the end goal of the partnership center stage rather than letting it get lost in the day-to-day minutia. Here’s the best of what we’ve learned.

A quarterly business review is just what the name implies: a meeting with customers every three months to review the partnership. You schedule this one-hour meeting to remind your customer why they went with you to begin with and what you planned to achieve together. You highlight your progress by sharing key metrics, playing up big wins, and talking about any challenges. You can also ask for feedback, plan how to improve your process, align on goals, and look at the coming quarter. Done right, QBRs deliver a critical message: You care about your customer’s success, and you deliver value throughout the entire year.

Wondering who you invite to a QBR? It’s a given that there will be representatives from both your company and your customer’s. Typically, we include the account manager, executive sponsor, and project manager. Because a QBR is a space for feedback, consider limiting the number of attendees from your team. That way, your customer will feel comfortable being transparent. 

Executive business review (EBR) vs. QBR

One more thing to clear up: You may have heard the term executive business review (EBR) and wonder how it relates to QBRs. EBRs are similar, but they’re typically higher level than QBRs and don’t always happen as often. Sometimes, the goal of an EBR is to inform and align while other times their purpose relates to a renewal decision. The relationship between QBRs and EBRs is not one-size-fits-all. Some executives only attend an annual EBR and ask for summarized versions of each QBR. So when you’re planning your QBRs, keep in mind that the information is likely to get passed up several levels beyond your immediate stakeholders. This is another reason to make sure the meeting content supports your customer’s business strategy and goals.

Either way, there’s still a chance executives you don’t normally see may join your QBR. If that happens, take advantage of the moment. Ask for their views of the partnership so you can better understand how to make the relationship a slam dunk from their perspective.

QBRs yield business value on both sides. You get the chance to share your customer’s recent successes with their team while reaffirming their overarching business goals. When you do this several times throughout the year, you’ll be more aligned with your customer and identify opportunities to improve, creating a bigger impact. Bonus: QBRs also help you build the case for either a renewal or increasing their spend as you go, rather than at the end of a contract. When you wait to meet in person and only for renewal summaries, building a business case as partners over time just isn’t possible.

If you don’t hold QBRs, you’ll either have to scramble when asked for a surprise business review or prepare for an annual “year in review” meeting. In that case, you’ll need to comb through 12 months of data instead of three, and you’ll have more (and older) stories to tell in the same amount of time. I’ve been there, and it’s a challenge.  The fact is, most clients will have forgotten many of your successes by then, and it’s even possible that your stakeholders will have changed.

By holding regular QBRs, you create the following benefits for both sides:

Opportunities to collaborate with your primary customer contacts

This builds your relationship with them and helps you better understand their organization. As you involve them in the process of preparing for the QBR, you can get a better sense of their goals and what they think will matter most to their leaders.

Regular feedback keeps an open flow of communication

Holding several QBRs throughout the year encourages more thoughtful feedback than you’d get without these more formal check-ins.

Face time with customer executives

Use it to strengthen the ties between organizations at a higher level. And if you impress the higher-ups, you may even earn the opportunity to expand your business with their company.

A chance to strengthen working relationships

I like to think of my main point of contact (POC) as our customer champion. When you highlight your customer champion’s efforts to improve their organization’s outcomes and bottom line, you’re more likely to gain their trust and loyalty.

Ways to do better and deliver more value

QBRs give you focused time to ask for constructive feedback. When you get it, take it to heart and follow up with specific ways to improve even more.

A chance to collaborate on challenges

Sometimes the roadblocks to success come from the customer’s side. QBRs present the time, place, and neutral space to explain these challenges and plan how to address them in a collaborative way.

Time to highlight service trends and share key metrics

Even if you email regular reports to your customer champion, and even if they share them with their bosses, there’s no guarantee they all make the time to review them. During your QBR, you’ll have their undivided attention to share data and show progress toward goals.

Without a formal meeting on a regular basis, it can be easy for people to get lost in their day-to-day tasks, putting check-ins on the backburner and making it all too easy to start moving in different directions. QBRs gather key stakeholders for an update and a chance to make sure everyone is on the same page.

I’ll be honest. The first quarter we delivered QBRs, I built them up to be a big, scary gauntlet I’d have to run. But they’re much more manageable than I thought. In fact, it’s been a great opportunity to highlight my customers’ projects, high-five over good work, and solicit customer feedback that helps us deliver what’s needed. Here are a few tips to help you do the same.

Get into the right mindset

Think of your QBR as an opportunity to speak to your successes. You also get to show your customer champion in a good light, so share the great work that both your team and your customer’s team finished during the last quarter. And remember: QBRs don’t come with the pressure of an annual renewal. While you can certainly focus on the good stuff, there’s no reason to shy away from challenges. During a QBR, those are just opportunities to improve. After all, there’s still plenty of time to get things going in the right direction.

Begin with a project plan

Get clarity on who will spearhead QBR preparation and which people will help them. At Red Argyle, the account manager is responsible for the QBR project plan. I work with a support team that helps gather metrics, craft the story, and create the presentation. I start by setting the agenda and areas of focus to keep things organized. I also use a checklist and shared calendar to ensure we are meeting deadlines. If you’re the one who owns the QBR, schedule time on your own calendar and on everyone else’s to work on it. Reach out to your services team early. Tell them what you need, when you need it, and how you’ll use it. That way, the QBR won’t sneak up on you.

Involve your customer champion

While preparing for your QBR, talk to your main customer contact. Ask them what story they want to tell and what their management will likely focus on. That way you can plan to share stories and metrics that align with their goals. Making them look good helps both of you.

Each QBR agenda may look similar, but that doesn’t mean there’s a one-size-fits-all plan. Ask your customer for input as you prepare. Tailor your QBR plan to focus on their priorities, including how they prefer to get information and what their upcoming needs are. I’ve found that some QBRs focus heavily on historic metrics and data while others focus most of their time on how to achieve important future outcomes. While the order and the amount of time you spend on each topic will probably differ from customer to customer, here are the key ingredients to include in your QBRs:

  • History of the partnership : Briefly review business goals and realign on service level agreements (SLAs) and objectives.
  • Data : Present key metrics. Compare trends with those from your last QBR.
  • Insights : Use data to deliver new understanding. Tell a story that showcases success and identify areas for improvement.
  • Customer stories : Share stories of your wins and how they’ve made an impact on customer success.
  • Financial check-in : Cover budgeted versus actual spend. If you’re over or under budget, be honest about it. Just make sure you support that information with a good reason and have a plan for how to recalibrate.
  • Feedback : Ask for feedback, including what might be helpful to include in the next QBR.
  • A look ahead : Agree on a roadmap for next quarter and assign specific action items if needed.

One last note: You’re asking your customer for an hour. Depending on how many people attend the QBR, this easily adds up to several hours of work time. Plan a compelling meeting, so they don’t feel like that time was wasted. Stay out of the minutiae and instead take a higher-level, strategic view of your services. Make it clear how those services support your customer’s goals — and how you can improve them.

  • Email a recap to all attendees within 24 hours.
  • Include high-level notes and takeaways, listing out related action items (e.g., Kacey will send an updated XYZ report by Thursday).
  • Attach a copy of the slide deck.

I also highly recommend scheduling a debrief with your customer champion. It should take place within a week of the QBR so everything is still fresh in their mind. A debrief reinforces your partnership and gives you a chance to ask how things went from the customer’s perspective. You can also ask how their higher-ups felt about it.

Afterward, give your internal support team a recap of the debrief. If the reaction was positive, celebrate that with them and give credit where it’s due.

Highlight the victories and review the playbook

Great QBRs help you keep customer’s goals at the forefront of your work and build a solid partnership throughout the year. This is a great way to support your project stakeholders. They can more easily make the business case for continued (or increased) budget at renewal time, and they may even thank you for showing their work in a positive light. Well-planned, strategic QBRs are a win-win.

What’s the difference between office 2021 (one-time purchase) and microsoft 365 (subscription).

Office 2021 is sold as a one-time purchase, which means you pay a single, up-front cost to get Office apps for one computer. One-time purchases are available for both PCs and Macs. However, there are no upgrade options, which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you'll have to buy it at full price.

Microsoft 365 is a subscription that includes the most collaborative, up-to-date features in one seamless, integrated experience. Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of apps and services included in all Microsoft 365 subscription plans. Note that if you are an existing subscriber, you do not need to reinstall or purchase another subscription.

For Microsoft 365 plans, Internet access is also needed to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office apps on other PCs or to change billing options. Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the  OneDrive desktop app .

You should also connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Microsoft 365 up to date and to benefit from automatic upgrades. If you do not connect to the Internet at least every 31 days, your apps will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your apps, simply reconnect to the Internet.

GM CEO says committment to all-electric fleet remains firm despite industry-wide sales slowdown

General Motors CEO Mary Barra says the storied automaker's plan to turn its fleet 100% electric will now play out "over decades."

In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Barra clarified the company's previously stated intention to eventually phase out gas-powered cars.

"I wouldn’t say we’re recommitting," Barra said of the company's pledge, first announced more than six years ago. "You know, we said back in 2018 that we’re committed to an all-electric future. But as we make this transformation, it’s going to happen over decades. And that’s why I couldn’t be more proud of our gas-powered fleet as well."

In a statement after this article was published, a spokesperson for GM said the company is actually aiming to exclusively sell electric vehicles by 2035.

Barra's remarks come amid a softening sales environment for electric vehicles in the U.S. In April, Cox Automotive reported that Kelley Blue Book data showed that the first quarter of 2024 saw the first quarter-over-quarter decline in EV sales since the pandemic and that sales were up just 3% year-on-year.

Last spring, GM announced it was discontinuing its Chevy Bolt EV , which had previously made up the vast majority of the company's electric vehicle sales, in favor of a new EV platform called Ultium that serves as the battery system across its remaining electric fleet.

Barra told NBC News that GM now has offerings for virtually any consumer preference, whether it's gas or electric.

"I want people to choose an EV because they love every aspect about it," she said. "And if it doesn’t fit their lifestyle, in that same showroom, we’ve got a great gas-powered vehicle that I think will meet their needs."

Tesla continues to dominate EV sales in the U.S., and although it has gradually given up some market share, it continues to command 50% of EV purchases. Barra confirmed that GM-made EVs will have access to Tesla charging stations, as well as those managed by Pilot Flying J — something that will help alleviate concerns about EV charger availability.

Barra expressed hope that further expansion of the EV charging network will make choosing an electric vehicle easier for consumers.

GM has seen success in EVs for at least one its more recent models. Kelley Blue Book data reported by Cox showed about 1 out of every 6 Cadillac purchases is an electric vehicle — the most of any brand not focused entirely on EVs. Cadillac was also one of nine manufacturers that recorded more than 50% year-on-year growth in EV sales.

It's indicative of the current trend in the electric vehicle market: They are becoming more popular at the higher end. Cox reported that Cadillac achieved an approximately 500% year-over-year increase in EV sales thanks to robust sales of its Lyriq crossover, which costs $58,590 to $63,190.

It stands in contrast to the Bolt, which was previously the most affordable EV on the market.  

Barra did not directly refer to the Bolt, but said EVs will have to become more affordable if widespread adoption is to occur.

"Everyone has been talking about to really drive EV adoption, we’ve got to get to EVs that are affordable," she said. "And when you think this — we’re going to have a model out later this year that starts around $35,000. Then with the tax credit you think about $7,500. This is under $30,000."

There are some limits to that $7,500 tax credit so closely associated with EV purchases. Receiving that credit depends on the buyer's income and where the vehicle and its battery components were made. Certain models are excluded from the United States' EV tax credit program. Those restrictions are part of the Biden administration's effort to promote EV and battery components made in the U.S.

Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, has expressed opposition to the Biden administration's EV push, calling the effort "radical."

Barra said a second Trump administration would not alter the company's future plans.

"We will be just committed because we think in the long term [EVs are] better," she said. "And even right now — I mean, get in an EV and drive it. It’s instant torque. You never have to go to the gas station, especially if you have at your home or where you live, whether it’s an apartment or your house, you have accessibility charging."

She continued: "I think over the long term when we have a very robust charging infrastructure, people are going to choose EVs, because they’re better."
