एक बार की बात है, देवताओं और असुरों में युद्ध आरंभ हुआ। युद्ध में हार के परिणाम स्वरूप, देवताओं ने अपना राज-पाठ सब युद्ध में गवा दिया। अपना राज-पाठ पुनः प्राप्त करने की इच्छा से देवराज इंद्र देवगुरु बृहस्पति से मदद की गुहार करने लगे। तत्पश्चात देव गुरु बृहस्पति ने श्रावण मास के पूर्णिमा के प्रातः काल में निम्न मंत्र से रक्षा विधान संपन्न किया।

इस पुजा से प्राप्त सूत्र को इंद्राणी ने इंद्र के हाथ पर बांध दिया। जिससे युद्ध में इंद्र को विजय प्राप्त हुआ और उन्हें अपना हारा हुआ राज पाठ दुबारा मिल गया। तब से रक्षा बंधन का त्योहार मनाया जाने लगा।

रक्षा बंधन पर सरकारी प्रबंध

भारत सरकार द्वारा रक्षा बंधन के अवसर पर डाक सेवा पर छूट दी जाती है। इस दिन के लिए खास तौर पर 10 रुपये वाले लिफाफे की बिक्री की जाती है। इस 50 ग्राम के लिफाफे में बहनें एक साथ 4-5 राखी भाई को भेज सकती हैं। जबकी सामान्य 20 ग्राम के लिफाफे में एक राखी ही भेजी जा सकती है। यह ऑफर डॉक विभाग द्वारा बहनों को भेट है अतः यह सुविधा रक्षाबंधन तक ही अपलब्ध रहता है। और दिल्ली में बस, ट्रेन तथा मेट्रो में राखी के अवसर पर महिलाओं से टिकट नहीं लिया जाता है।

रक्षाबंधन हिन्दुओं के मुख्य त्यौहारों में से एक है। हालाँकि हिन्दुओं के अलावा और अन्य धर्मों के लोग भी रक्षाबंधन का त्यौहार धूम-धाम से मानते हैं। सभी त्यौहारों की तरह रक्षाबंधन भी काफी उल्लास और श्रद्धा के साथ मनाया जाता है। यह परम्परा हमारे भारत देश में काफी प्रचलित है। आपको बता दें कि श्रावण मास की पूर्णिमा को रक्षाबंधन का त्यौहार मनाते हैं। हर साल हिन्दू और श्रावण मास की पूर्णिमा के दिन रक्षा बंधन मनाया जाता है। रक्षा का मतलब सुरक्षा और बंधन का मतलब बाध्य होता है। रक्षाबंधन के दिन बहनें अपनी भाई की रक्षा और तरक्की के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं।

रक्षाबंधन कब मनाया जाता है ?

हिंदू कैलेंडर के अनुसार, श्रावण मास की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है। श्रवण माह को आम भाषा में सावन का महीना भी कहते हैं। रक्षाबंधन सावन महीने के अंतिम दिन में इसलिए मनाया जाता है क्योकिं हिंदू धर्म के अनुसार सावन का महीना बहुत शुभ होता है।

कैसे मनाया जाता है रक्षाबंधन ?

यह हिंदू श्रावण मास (जुलाई-अगस्त) की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है। यह भाई-बहन के प्रेम का प्रतीक है। इस दिन बहनें सुबह तैयार होकर नये कपड़ें पहनकर थाली की सजावट करती है। जिसमें राखी, सिंदूर, चावल, और मिठाई को शामिल किया जाता है। बहनें भईयों के माथे पर तिलक, भाई की कलाई पर राखी बांधकर मिठाई खिलाते हैं। राखी बांधने के बाद भाई अपनी बहन को गिफ्ट देते हैं और वचन देते हैं कि हर मुसीबत पर मैं तुम्हारा साथ दूंगा और हमेशा तुम्हारे साथ खड़ा रहूंगा। राखी बांधना अब केवल भाई-बहनों के बीच की गतिविधि नहीं रह गई है। देश की रक्षा, पर्यावरण की रक्षा, हितों की रक्षा आदि के लिए भी राखी बांधी जा रही है।

क्यों मनाया जाता है रक्षा बंधन ?

पहले इस पेड़ को बांधी जाती थी राखी 

सदियों से चली आ रही परंपरा के मुताबिक पहले के समय में बहन भाई को राखी बांधने से पहले प्रकृति की सुरक्षा के लिए तुलसी और नीम के पेड़ को राखी बांधती है। 

रक्षाबंधन के दिन किस भगवान को मिली थी जीत

भविष्यपुराण के अनुसार कहा जाता है कि देवाताओँ और दैत्यों का बीच युद्ध हुआ। बलि नाम के असुर ने भगवान को इंद्र को हरा दिया था और अमरावती पर अपना आधिकार जमा लिया था। राजा बलि ने यज्ञ करके स्वर्ग पर अधिकार करने का प्रयास किया, तब देवराज इंद्र ने भगवान विष्णु से प्रार्थना की। विष्णु जी राजा बलि से भिक्षा मांगने वामन ब्राह्मण बनकर गए।

राजा बलि ने अपने गुरु की बात ना मान के भी भगवान के वामन अवतार को तीन पग भूमि दान कर दी। वामन भगवान ने तीन पग में आकाश-पाताल और धरती नाप कर राजा बलि को रसातल में भेज दिया। राजा बलि में अपनी भक्ति के बल पर विष्णु जी से हर समय अपने सामने रहने का वचन ले लिया। इससे लक्ष्मी जी इससे चिंतित हो गई। उनको चिंतित देख नारद जी ने उनको एक सलाह दी। नारद जी की सलाह पर लक्ष्मी जी बलि के पास गई और रक्षासूत्र बांधकर बलि को अपना भाई बना लिया। इसके बदले में वे विष्णु जी को अपने साथ ले आई। उस दिन श्रावण मास की पूर्णिमा तिथि थी।

हमारे इतिहास में भी राखी के महत्व के कई उल्लेख मिलते हैं। मेवाड़ की महारानी कर्मावती ने मुगल बादशाह हुमायूँ को राखी भेजकर सुरक्षा की गुहार लगाई थी। हुमायूँ ने मुसलमान होते हुए भी राखी की लाज रखी थी।

इसके अलावा सिकंदर की पत्नी ने अपने पति के हिंदू दुश्मन पुरु को अपने भाई के रूप में राखी बांधी थी और युद्ध के दौरान सिकंदर को नहीं मारने की कसम खाई थी। पुरु ने युद्ध के दौरान अपने हाथ में राखी बांधकर अपनी बहन से किए गए वादे का सम्मान करते हुए सिकंदर को जीवनदान दिया।

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the day of Purnima or full moon day in the month of Shravan or August. This festival idolizes the lovely bond between brothers and sisters and reminds us of the good times spent with each other. Every year this festival is eagerly awaited by brothers and sisters to show love and shower blessings to each other. Every girl out there seems to be obsessed to buy the best gift for their brothers.

On the day of rakhi, family members especially dress up beautifully in ethnic style to celebrate this festival. They prepare a thali decorated with various items including rakhi, a tikka, a mauli-a holy thread, some sweets and chocolates. Unable to see Indra in such a condition, Sachi, his wife shared the concern with Vishnu. Vishnu gave her a sacred thread and asked her to tie it around Indra’s wrist. Sachi tied the thread wishing long life and success for her husband. Following this, Indra miraculously defeated Bali. The festival of Raksha Bandhan is said to be inspired from this story. Rakhi is considered to be a protective thread. During the earlier times, this sacred thread was even tied to the kings and warriors by their sisters or wives to protect them during the war.

• Goddess Lakshmi Tied the Sacred Thread to King Bali

It is said that when demon King Bali won the three worlds from Vishnu, he later asked him to stay with him at his place. Vishnu agreed to him however Vishnu’s wife, Goddess Lakshmi did not like his decision. She thus decided to tie rakhi to Bali. When Bali asked her for a gift in return she asked him to send her husband back to Vaikunth. Bali could not say no to his sister. Such is the power of this sacred thread.

• The Sacred Bond of Krishna and Draupadi

It is said that while killing Shishupala, Lord Krishna accidently got his finger hurt. As his finger began bleeding, Draupadi rushed to him, tore a piece from her sari and tied it around Krishna’s finger. Krishna was touched by this gesture and promised to protect Draupadi. Thereafter, Draupadi tied a sacred thread to Krishna every year. When Draupadi was in utmost distress during Cheerharan by the Kauravas, it was Lord Krishna who saved her. The two shared a very special bond.

• Rabindra Nath Tagore’s Idea of Raksha Bandhan

Renowned Indian writer, Rabindra Nath Tagore believed that Raksha Bandhan was a day to strengthen the bond of togetherness not just among brothers and sisters but among all countrymen. The famous writer was devastated at hearing about the partition of Bengal. The British government used the tactic of divide and rule to split this province.
