Case Study is a coffee lounge that started out as a showroom for furniture designer/maker “ William Douglas ” - A native to Phoenix, AZ and world class woodworker. He wanted a space for clients to come in and enjoy the furniture instead of admiring from a screen. As the local community's curiosity brought them in, they were in “awe” of not only the woodworking but also the specialty coffee! They quickly demanded that it be open to the public for everyone’s enjoyment! The people have spoken, and the rest is history. This concept has since been re-created by other craftsman as William’s case study yet again paved the way.

damn the inside is beautiful. the woodwork is impressive and really shows the craftsmanship that goes on in here. enjoy the seating arrangement, get a crepe or avocado toast, oat milk latte with honey, or a cold brew. i also admire his taste in speaker selection, Sonos great choice. also notice the light fixtures or switches made by buster n punch are cool. it's like a woodworking showroom with a coffee shop. awesome experience. go take a selfie in the bathroom.

Wonderful new coffee lounge! Tried a rosemary vanilla iced latte for the first time and it was delicious! The savory crepe was so good too - hand grated cheddar with applewood smoked ham wrapped in the homemade crepe batter and a small arugula salad on top.

Case Study Coffee Lounge is an uptown Phoenix delight

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Case Study Coffee Lounge on 16th Street and Pierson is a warm and comfy place to hang while you caffeinated. You’ll find the furniture and decor show excellent craftsmanship — as they should because almost everything was built by woodworker William Douglas, who also owns and manages the coffee shop.

The name stems from Douglas’ woodworking career. His business, as he describes it, was primarily content creation, education, and sponsorship-based, so he was able to do things that weren’t necessarily practical for most woodworkers. Though most well-known for his woodworking, Douglas had to step away from his passion after receiving life-altering news. He would get up to three debilitating migraines a week, with some lasting up to 24 hours. After seeing several specialists, neurologists and lung doctors, Douglas saw an allergist. He discovered something heartbreaking: he had developed an allergy to most trees.

Douglas had been involved in the industry for a decade, and he decided that this newly developed health condition wouldn’t stop him from sharing his passion for timeless craft and design. He started to consider other possibilities — and one idea, centered around his furniture showroom — took hold.

”The café was available for clients at the showroom when they were there to commission me to create a piece,” Douglas said. “Once my allergy developed, I saw an opportunity to reach more people through craft and coffee,” he said. Five months after that fated appointment, Case Study Coffee Lounge opened in Phoenix.

I visited Case Study Coffee Lounge and had a fantastic experience. The storefront’s logo caught my eye and drew me into a beautifully-designed and quirky space. The baristas were passionate and friendly, creating an energetic and welcoming atmosphere.

The bold and memorable coffee menu offered unique options like the “Brown Sugar and Sage” latte, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The latte wasn’t overly sage-y but had just the right balance to make it stand out. Even my wife loved her latte, and my daughter enjoyed the chocolate milk.

Upon the owner’s invite, I returned and had a perfectly remade Brown Sugar latte, reflecting the staff’s dedication to pleasing their customers. The friendly and welcoming staff added to the overall positive experience, with no hint of pretentiousness.

While the Brown Sugar with Sage latte was unique and delicious, the Avocado Toast was also fabulous, with great flavor and delicious bread. The pickled onions and tomatoes were fresh and flavorful, making for a delightful meal. The ambiance and music, displayed on a cool board on the wall, added to the enjoyable atmosphere.

The quaint feel of the coffee shop expanded as I walked through to discover a bigger room, perfect for getting work done or catching up with friends. The Cordata coffee and fruit pastry were heavenly, and my sister loved the avocado toast and custom iced vanilla latte with caramel drizzle.

Case Study Coffee Lounge felt warm and inviting, offering classic espresso drinks as well as creative options like the Vanilla Lavender. The space’s beauty, with millwork crafted by the owner himself, added to the overall charm.

The continual visits reflect the high standard of quality and service at Case Study, making it a total gem. With the addition of Friday and Saturday nights offering coffee and tea infused cocktails and amazing food offerings, the coffee shop continues to impress. The expertise, flavors, and beautiful presentation of the drinks and food left a lasting impression, making me eager to return soon.
