How to Win Hybrid Working with Virgin Media Business

As hybrid working becomes ever more fundamental to how we work, it’s vital that small businesses have access to the right tools & solutions to stay successful. From finding the perfect home office space, to managing work-life balance, there are a whole range of factors that you need to consider. Chief among these will be keeping your technology connected, secure and supported, often without the safety net of a dedicated IT team. We’re all too aware of how technology challenges like this can negatively affect small businesses, which is why we created HomeWorks; a service that encompasses a number of security and support solutions designed for small businesses who operate primarily from home. Interested? Then read on and find out how we can help you and your team win working from home.

Keep your home working secure with F Secure SAFE

One of the biggest challenges of working from home has been managing cyber security, particularly for small businesses with limited budgets to spend on firewalls, VPNs and virus protection. In fact, the Government’s cyber security breaches survey found that whilst malicious attacks are increasing year on year, fewer businesses have up to date malware protection and network firewalls[1], partially as a result of increased homeworking.

For small businesses, cyber security is a vital issue, but equally, a good security solution can’t be too labour intensive or expensive. Crucially,  That’s why we’re offering small businesses access to F-Secure SAFE, an award winning virus protection software, as part of our Homeworks solution. Whether you’re concerned about viruses, or potential identity fraud, F-Secure SAFE protects up to 5 of your business devices, all under one subscription. That means that when you’re working from home, on whatever device you might be using, you can rest assured that your business is protected from malicious attacks.

Seamless support for the gadgets you rely on

Is there anything more frustrating than having a crucial gadget stop working? What’s worse is that it usually seems to happen when you need it most - right before an important deadline or client meeting. What’s more, the ever increasing versatility of smartphones and tablets as business tools means that you’re often relying on more than just your laptop to work from home, whether you’re taking video calls on your phone or firing off a quick email using whatever gadget happens to be to hand at the time.

We recognise that small businesses are run from all sorts of devices, which is why we offer Gadget Rescue, a service designed to keep all of your business’ essential gadgets up and running. Our expert tech team can cover everything from removing viruses and malware, to troubleshooting more common connectivity and functionality issues. The service is available 24/7 and our experts are able to access your gadgets securely and remotely, fixing 93% of issues at the first time. Whether you get your best work done on your laptop, phone or tablet, Gadget Rescue can keep them all online and working perfectly.

Technical expertise - On hand and in-person

Sometimes something goes wrong quite spectacularly and no amount of Googling or remote support will fully resolve the issue. If you’re working from an office, you might be able to call on support from an in-house IT team, or at least a tech minded colleague, but what do you do if you’re running your business from home? Not having access to in-person technical support can mean days of interrupted business as you try to find a solution, something small businesses are generally desperate to avoid!

Not only does HomeWorks offer 24/7 technical support remotely, there’s also the reassurance of a next-day, in person callout service if you’re really stuck. It means that even serious IT problems can be addressed promptly, minimising disruption and getting your business back on track ASAP. Hopefully, this is a service you’ll never have to use, but the fact that it’s readily available means that you can focus on what’s important to your business, knowing that any issues you do encounter won’t spell disaster!

The Boyfriend, Japanese same-sex dating reality show

Netflix will next month upload its first Japanese same-sex dating reality TV series, “ The Boyfriend .”

The show takes nine men to a beach house in order to find love. For a month, they live together and take turns working shifts at a coffee truck, forging deep friendships and learning about themselves along the way.

The show will also be hosted by an eclectic mix of personalities including Megumi, Horan Chiaki, Thelma Aoyama, drag queen Durian Lollobrigida and Yoshimi Tokui.

The topic is a challenging one in a country that remains largely socially conservative, and which is generally considered less LGBT -friendly than most other developed countries.

The last few years, however, have seen several legal developments that may indicate a change in the established order. Tokyo’s metropolitan government issued special same-sex partnership certificates from November 2022. But these certificates have negligible legal value. In June 2023, the Japanese government went one step further and passed a law which aims to ‘promote understanding’ of LGBTI people.

Netflix simply describes “The Boyfriend” as part of its 2024 slate that aims to showcase unique Japanese stories and perspectives . The series comes after the success of recent original local storytelling, such as “Sanctuary,” “House of Ninjas” and “City Hunter.” It has also added new seasons of reality TV series “Love Village” and comedy talk show “Last One Standing.”

“I discussed with the cast how growth and valuable experiences stem from shared friendships, youth and struggles, not just romance. This led to many unexpected miracles on set,” said Hishida Keisuke, chief producer and director – Kyodo Television):

“I’m so happy with how this series took shape. I listened to each participant with a goal to produce a show that left everyone feeling valued and loved,” said Taiki, producer and casting director.   Watch the trailer here.

Allow access

An access agreement, sometimes called wayleave, is written permission for us to be on your private property. If that’s something we need to be able to carry out our work, you’ll be contacted to complete the quick online consent form below, so we can get started.

Any questions, please talk to us on Live Chat .

So, do you need to fill in the form?

Please find these details in the access agreement message that we sent you. Click here to enter your Wayleave ID and fill in the form.

Learn more about Virgin Media business .

What is wayleave, and who can sign the form?

Wayleave (or an access agreement) is written consent – from the homeowner, developer, housing association member, local authority, landlord or tenant – which gives us permission to carry out construction work on private land or property, and to install and maintain our equipment.

Construction can’t start without wayleave. So, if you’re leasing the property for at least a year or you’re the freehold owner – and we’ve contacted you to complete the form – please do so as soon as you can or talk to us on Live Chat if you need help or advice.

What’s involved during the construction work?

Our fibre-optic cables will be laid in a narrow trench under roads and pavements up to a small access point on the boundary between the highway and the front of the property. If we can avoid any digging by using existing trenches and other infrastructure, like telegraph poles, that’s what we’d prefer to do.

- Cables won’t be attached to the property (yet) We’ll arrange a setup visit when you buy our broadband . You’ll have chance to talk to us about where the cabling goes inside your home.

- Qualified, insured civil contractors will carry out the work Tenants will be informed before the installation work starts. And we’ll work with you to minimise any inconvenience and disruption that may be caused.

When will construction start?

Providing all necessary permissions are received, we’ll review and finalise our plans and begin to schedule the construction activities. We typically schedule our construction activities many months in advance.

What support do I get as a property manager, private landlord or member of a local housing association?

We’ll invite you to meet with us initially, to take stock of your premises and explore the site’s compatibility with our superfast network. Your Virgin Media representative will guide you throughout the planning stages and beyond, until construction is completed.

Rest assured that…

  • We won’t ask for residents’ information or need access to their homes.
  • We’ll happily sign a non-disclosure agreement.

What is a pre-wire?

A pre-wire is normally carried out in a block of flats. We connect individual premises to the building’s integrated receiver system, if there is one; or to the Fibre to the premises (FTPP) connection; or to a bespoke cabling plan. This is done to save time in future: we won’t need to install additional cables in communal areas, so your tenants can get broadband sooner after they’ve placed their order.

What support will you provide my new build project?

We’ll work with you on all of the offsite construction, leaving only the on-site requirements to your developer. You’ll have Virgin Media staff dedicated to your new build, including our own:

  • New build officer, who’ll take your initial site survey (they’ll study your utility margins, advise where our cables should go…).
  • Liaison officer, who’ll support throughout the project. Everything you need for your broadband installation will be delivered straight to the site.

The earlier you get us involved, the more we can do to help your new build - Fill in the site request form (if you haven’t already) – ideally, nine months before your homebuyers move in.

Claim rebates for completed homes (optional) - This can be done at any point.
