Gender inclusive housing for first year students.

Virginia Commonwealth University Residential Life and Housing acknowledges and respects the diversity of our student population. In doing so, we offer living options to encompass all individuals. Gender Inclusive Housing is an inclusive living option within VCU residential communities that allows students to live together without regard to birth sex, gender, or gender identity. Gender Inclusive Housing is a voluntary choice; no student will be assigned to a Gender Inclusive unit unless they have opted to be a part of a Gender Inclusive living space.

Each participant will need to have completed the current Housing Application as well as the Gender Inclusive Housing Supplement (which is located within the Housing Application).

Eligibility

To reside within Gender Inclusive Housing units residents must be:

  • 18 years of age at the time of move-in
  • Eligible for University housing

Each participant will need to have completed the current Housing Application as well as the Gender Inclusive Housing Supplement.

Gender Inclusive Roommate Requests

First-year student applicants who are interested in Gender Inclusive housing are required to identify one roommate who is also interested in Gender Inclusive Housing. Both students must mutually request each other as roommates and both students must complete the Gender Inclusive application supplement. If you are interested in Gender Inclusive housing, but you are having difficulty finding a roommate, please call 804-828-7666 or email [email protected] and we will be happy to assist .

My College Roomie is a resource that can help you find incoming VCU students who are looking for a roommate. To access My College Roomie, please see the My College Roomie Welcome Letter sent to your VCU student email account once you have completed the housing application.

Assignment into a Gender Inclusive space will be dependent on availability. Submitting a request for Gender Inclusive housing does not guarantee a placement will be available. If you apply for Gender Inclusive housing and we are unable to accommodate your request, you will be assigned by the gender designated in the information you provided when applying to the university.

Important Deadlines

All requests for Gender Inclusive Housing should be made within the Housing Application and are due on June 14 .
