Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the nation on Hindi Diwas and said that it is the result of the people's efforts that the language is "continuously making a strong identity globally". “Wishing you all a very Happy Hindi Diwas. People from different regions have played a remarkable role in making Hindi a capable language. It is the result of all your efforts that Hindi is continuously making a strong identity on the global stage,” PM Modi tweeted in Hindi.

Union home minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, calling it a part of Indian culture. “Hindi has been an effective and powerful medium of national unity and identity.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda also wished the nation on this occasion. He tweeted, “Happy Hindi Diwas to all the countrymen. Along with being the official language of India, Hindi is also the identity of the culture and tradition of the country. Come, let us make an important contribution to the progress of the nation by using Hindi, the facilitator of national integration with all other Indian languages.”

Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu urged people to learn Indian languages and increase linguistic harmony. "On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly accepted Hindi as the official language. On #HindiDay, remember the ideals and harmony of the Constituent Assembly, which gave respect to Hindi and Indian languages in the Constitution. Our languages have been the source of cultural unity of the country. Learn Indian languages, increase linguistic harmony,” he tweeted.

Greeting the nation on Hindi Diwas, defence minister Rajnath Singh said Hindi is one of the most popular languages not only in India but in the world. “Hindi as a language also acts as a bridge between the people of India. It is the responsibility of all Hindi servicemen to propagate it and make maximum use of it,” he tweeted.

Narendra Modi Speech In Hindi

Narendra Modi Speech –

Narendra Modi Speech Hindi

Narendra Modi Speech In Hindi –

  • Claims PM Modi not sent to help farmers and labourers

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday renewed his 'parmatma' (God) jibe at the Prime Minister, saying that Narendra Modi has been sent by parmatma to help industrialists like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, and not the poor.

Speaking at an election rally in Deoria of Uttar Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi said, "Everyone else is biological but Narendra Modi ji is not biological. He has been sent by his 'parmatma' to help Ambani and Adani but 'parmatma' has not sent him to help the farmers and labourers".

"If 'parmatma' had sent him them he would have helped the poor and the farmers. Yeh kaise parmatma hain? Yeh Narendra Modi ji wale parmatma hain (What kind of God is this? I think this is PM Modi's God)," the Congress leader added.

Rahul Gandhi's remark came in the wake of PM Modi's recent interview with a news channel in which he reportedly said that he was not biological but sent by God.

"Until my mother was alive, I used to think I was born biologically. After her demise, when I look at my experiences, I am convinced that I was sent by God. This strength is not from my body. It has been given to me by God. That's why God also gave me the ability, strength, pure-heartedness, and inspiration to do this. I'm nothing but an instrument that God has sent," PM Modi had said.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader, during his election rally, also said that the INDIA bloc government will end the 50 per cent cap on reservation, while asserting that the alliance will protect the Constitution with " dil, jaan aur khoon (heart, life and blood)".

"There is INDIA bloc and the Constitution on one side and those who want to finish the Constitution on the other. The INDIA bloc will protect the Constitution with dil, jaan aur khoon ," the Gandhi scion said.

Rahul Gandhi also assured people that once the INDIA bloc forms government at the Centre, he will personally tear apart the Angiveer scheme and throw it in the dustbin. Published By: Sahil Sinha Published On: May 28, 2024

Patwari told ANI, "The constitution of India, reservation and democratic principles are in danger. The question arises in the country of freedom of media. After 75 years of independence, if all the blame goes on any governance, it is PM Modi's tenure. The reservation in the private sector was ended by the current government. BJP leaders continuously talk about changing the basic structure of the constitution and you (PM Modi) didn't not take any action on it. It means they have the support of PM Modi." The country has understood it, that is why there is an effect of these issues in the elections and that's why PM Modi has to speak on them, he added. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained why reservation had become a crucial issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, framing his narrative as a call to safeguard the constitutional principles and the rights of marginalised communities.

Lok Sabha elections: Article 370 wasn't agenda of people, Kashmir voter turnout in LS polls has sent message to the world, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Article 370 was neither the agenda of the people of Kashmir nor of the country but only of "four-five families" and that it is a matter of greatest satisfaction for him that the brothers and sisters in Kashmir came forward to vote with great enthusiasm in the Lok Sabha polls. In an exclusive interview with ANI, the Prime Minister said there is a feeling of more unity with the removal of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the feeling of belongingness is increasing and the result is visible in the elections and in the increase in tourism. "Article 370 was the agenda of only four-five families, it was neither the agenda of the people of Kashmir nor the agenda of the people of the country. For their benefit, they had built such a wall of 370 and used to say that if 370 is removed, there will be a fire...Today it has become true that after the removal of 370, there is a feeling of more unity. The feeling of belongingness is increasing among the people of Kashmir and hence its direct result is also visible in elections, tourism," he said. Modi government abrogated Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, months after it came to office for the second successive term. The Prime Minister noted that the people in Kashmir warmly welcomed the delegates during events related to the G20 summit.

Lok Sabha elections 2024: Day 17, PM yet to gather courage to accept invite for debate with Rahul Gandhi, says Jairam Ramesh

Reiterating his earlier posts, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Tuesday that 17 days have passed but the Prime Minister has not yet gathered the "courage" to accept the invitation to debate with Rahul Gandhi. In a post on X, Jairam said, "17 days have passed since Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter accepting the invitation to debate with the outgoing Prime Minister. The so-called 56-inch chest has not yet gathered the courage to accept the invitation." It is pertinent to note that the invitation was extended to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by Retired Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Ajit P Shah, and journalist N Ram for a debate on the key election issues. On May 10, Rahul Gandhi in a letter addressed to retired judges Madan B Lokur, Ajit P Shah, and journalist N Ram, Gandhi expressed readiness to participate in the debate either himself or through Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. "It would be a positive initiative for the major parties to present their vision to the country from one platform for a healthy democracy. Congress welcomes this initiative and accepts the invitation for discussion. The country also expects the Prime Minister to take part in this dialogue," Rahul Gandhi said while accepting the invitation. Earlier, while accepting the invitation for a public debate with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha President Tejasvi Surya nominated BJYM's Vice President Abhinav Prakash.

Reporting from Lucknow and New Delhi in India

One recent morning, Roop Rekha Verma, an 80-year-old peace activist and former university leader, walked through a north Indian neighborhood prone to sectarian strife and parked herself near a tea shop.

From her sling bag, she pulled out a bundle of pamphlets bearing messages of religious tolerance and mutual coexistence and began handing them to passers-by.

“Talk to each other. Don’t let anyone divide you,” one read in Hindi.

Spreading those simple words is an act of bravery in today’s India.

Ms. Verma and others like her are waging a lonely battle against a tide of hatred and bigotry increasingly normalized by India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, or B.J.P.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deputies have vilified the country’s minorities in a yearslong campaign that has escalated during the current national election, the small band of aging activists has built bridges and preached harmony between religious groups.

They have continued to hit the pavement even as the price for dissent and free speech has become high, trying to keep the flame alive for the nonsectarian ideal embedded in India’s constitution and in their own memories.

More than three dozen human rights defenders, poets, journalists and opposition politicians face charges, including under antiterrorism laws, for criticizing Mr. Modi’s divisive policies, according to rights groups. (The government has said little about the charges, other than repeating its line that the law takes its own course.)

The crackdown has had a chilling effect on many Indians.

“That is where the role of these civil society activists becomes more important,” said Meenakshi Ganguly, a deputy director at Human Rights Watch. “Despite a crackdown, they are refusing to cow down, leading them to hold placards, distributing fliers, to revive a message that once was taken for granted.”

The use of posters and pamphlets to raise public awareness is a time-tested practice among Indian activists. Revolutionaries fighting for independence from British colonizers employed them to drum up support and mobilize ordinary Indians. Today, village leaders use them to spread awareness about health and other government programs.

Such old-school outreach may seem quixotic in the digital age. Every day, India’s social media spaces, reaching hundreds of millions of people, are inundated with anti-Muslim vitriol promoted by the B.J.P. and its associated right-wing organizations.

During the national election that ends next week, Mr. Modi and his party have targeted Muslims directly , by name, with brazen attacks both online and in campaign speeches. (The B.J.P. rejects accusations that it discriminates against Muslims, noting that government welfare programs under its supervision assist all Indians equally.)

Those who have worked in places torn apart by sectarian violence say polarization can be combated only by going to people on the streets and making them understand its dangers. Merely showing up can help.

For Ms. Verma, the seeds of her activism were planted during her childhood, when she listened to horror stories of the sectarian violence that left hundreds of thousands dead during the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947.

Later, as a university philosophy professor, she fought caste discrimination and religious divides both inside and outside the classroom. She opposed patriarchal attitudes even as slurs were thrown at her. In the early 1980s, when she noticed that the names of mothers were excluded from student admission forms, she pressed for their inclusion and won.

But more than anything else, it was the campaign to build a major Hindu temple in the town of Ayodhya in her home state of Uttar Pradesh that gave Ms. Verma’s life a new meaning.

In 1992, a Hindu mob demolished a centuries-old mosque there, claiming that the site had previously held a Hindu temple. Deadly riots followed. This past January, three decades later, the Ayodhya temple opened, inaugurated by Mr. Modi.

It was a significant victory for a Hindu nationalist movement whose maligning and marginalizing of Muslims is exactly what Ms. Verma has devoted herself to opposing.

The Hindu majority, she said, has a responsibility to protect minorities, “not become complicit in their demonization.”

While the government’s incitement of religious enmity is new in India, the sectarian divisions themselves are not. One activist, Vipin Kumar Tripathi, 76, a former physics professor at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, said he had started gathering students after classes and educating them about the dangers of “religious radicalization” in the early 1990s.

Today, Mr. Tripathi travels to different parts of India with a message of peace.

Recently, he stood in a corner of a busy train station in northeastern New Delhi. As office workers, students and laborers ran toward platforms, he handed information sheets and brochures to anyone who extended a hand.

His materials addressed some of the most provocative issues in India: the troubles in Kashmir, where the Modi government has rescinded the majority-Muslim region’s semi-autonomy ; the politics over the Ayodhya temple; and ordinary citizens’ rights to question their government.

“To respect God and to pretend to do that for votes are two different things,” read one of his handouts.

At the station, Anirudh Saxena, a tall man in his early 30s with a pencil mustache, stopped and looked Mr. Tripathi straight in the eyes.

“Sir, why are you doing this every week?” Mr. Saxena asked.

“Read this,” Mr. Tripathi told Mr. Saxena, handing him a small 10-page booklet. “This explains why we should read books and understand history instead of reading WhatsApp garbage and extracting pleasure out of someone’s pain.”

Mr. Saxena smiled, nodded his head and put the booklet in his handbag before disappearing into the crowd.

If just 10 out of a thousand people read his materials, Mr. Tripathi said, his job is done. “When truth becomes the casualty, you can only fight it on the streets,” he said.

Shabnam Hashmi, 66, another activist based in New Delhi, said she had helped distribute about four million pamphlets in the state of Gujarat after sectarian riots there in 2002. More than 1,000 people, most of them Muslims, died in the communal violence, which happened under the watch of Mr. Modi, who was the state’s top leader at the time.

During that period, she and her colleagues were harassed by right-wing activists, who threw stones at her and filed police complaints.

In 2016, months after Mr. Modi became prime minister, the government prohibited foreign funding for her organization. She has continued her street activism nonetheless.

“It is the most effective way of reaching the people directly,” she said. “What it does is, it somehow gives people courage to fight fear and keep resisting.”

“We might not be able to stop this craziness,” she added, “but that doesn’t mean we should stop fighting.”

Even before Mr. Modi’s rise, said Ms. Verma, the activist in Uttar Pradesh, governments never “showered roses” on her when she was doing things like leading marches and bringing together warring factions after flare-ups of religious violence.

Over the decades, she has been threatened with prison and bundled into police vehicles.

“But it was never so bad,” she said, as it has now become under Mr. Modi.

The space for activism may completely vanish, Ms. Verma said, as his party becomes increasingly intolerant of any scrutiny.

For now, she said, activists “are, sadly, just giving proof of our existence: that we may be demoralized, but we are still alive. Otherwise, hatred has seeped so deep it will take decades to rebuild trust.”

Will Hindi belt continue to be enchanted by Hindutva despite ‘Modi fatigue’?

When the campaign began, the competition appeared to be favouring the incumbent. as it closes, the central question that has arisen is whether the north will unsettle the bjp..

narendra modi speech in hindi written

The Hindi belt or the Hindi heartland is a central factor in the shaping of political power in India. In part, this is due to numerical strength — the north accounts for a massive 245 seats to the Lok Sabha and, barring Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, the Hindi belt has 226 seats. But more than mere strength, it is important because of an underlying uniformity in its approach to socio-cultural matters and in its political behaviour. Historically, the churnings in the Hindi belt have signalled momentous political shifts.

In 1967, the entire Hindi belt registered its disenchantment with the Congress. This shook the Congress system, but more than that, it marked the beginning of a new politics both within Congress and outside it. In 1977, the Hindi belt contributed to the rout of Indira Gandhi’s party and facilitated a reconfiguration of political forces. In both these moments, the deeper churning in the Hindi belt had an undercurrent of social realignments — the unrest of intermediate and backward castes against the continued dominance of upper/forward castes. The realignment politically manifested itself as a protest against the Congress. That logic was further extended in 1989 when Congress was thrown out yet again — more decisively. At all these three points in time, the Hindi belt behaved more or less uniformly.

narendra modi speech in hindi written

A fourth moment was the mid-Nineties, when in quick succession, in three elections, the BJP gained handsomely in this region. That marked the entrenchment of Hindutva politics in the Hindi belt. This was not merely a case of the BJP replacing Congress in the region; it was also a case of pre-existing socio-cultural sensibilities transforming themselves with more militant articulation and the politics of Hindutva smoothly taking over the region. The rise of the BJP in the 1990s and its resurgence in 2014 owe much to the party’s impressive performance here: The BJP won 178 seats in the Hindi belt in 2019.

Without underestimating the party’s respectable showing elsewhere, like in Gujarat, one can therefore pinpoint the Hindi belt as the BJP’s core constituency. The Ram Janmabhoomi agitation consolidated the politics of Hindutva in the Hindi belt but historically, Hindutva politics has had more traction in this belt than elsewhere even before the BJP spearheaded the Ayodhya agitation. Throughout the nationalist movement and subsequently in the post-Independence period, Congress in the Hindi belt struggled to accommodate the more articulate Hindu sensibilities that sought public expression of religious identity. The Hindu sensibility in this belt could easily be converted into a politics of Hindu assertion to be weaponised against Muslims — irrespective of the fact that in states like Rajasthan or MP, like in Gujarat, the Muslim presence is far too weak to be competitive or a challenge to the so-called Hindu ethos. Hindutva was being shaped in the region despite the weakness of the party of Hindutva, and post-1989, it converted its subterranean existence into the electoral strength of the BJP.

Thus, there is a long term link of Hindutva with region-specific Hindu sensibilities. Today, what are the possible limitations that might unsettle the BJP’s electoral hold over this region?

Festive offer

Three things need to be borne in mind. First, except Bihar, where the BJP had a state-level partner, the BJP’s vote share in all the remaining states in the Hindi belt was between 50 and 60-plus per cent in 2019. This translates into a huge Hindu vote since available data suggest that Muslims might not have voted for the BJP in any sizeable proportion. In other words, the Hindu consolidation that the BJP aims at has almost completely occurred in this belt. This is often understood as the strength of the BJP but it also means that the party reaches a point where it cannot further add to its support.

Secondly, the party has won nearly all the seats in many of these states. In UP, though, it still came up short — with 60-plus seats out of 80. In other states of the region, even if the BJP were to repeat its 2019 performance, that would not help the party add to its strength. Thus, for the BJP to improve on its 2019 performance, it is absolutely essential to win more seats in UP. It cannot win many more seats in Bihar given that it is again in alliance with state-level parties and thus has to share seats with them.

Thirdly, while the popularity of Modi and the attraction of Hindutva may still hold, a decade-long incumbency coupled with exaggerated promises put the BJP in a tough corner. In this decade and overall, Hindutva has offered its followers symbolic excitement mostly unrelated to life conditions — the systematic marginalisation of the imagined enemy, construction of the Ram temple and limited accommodation of backward castes. The promises of national reconstruction and material advancement as corollaries of Hindu domination have remained distant dreams. Lokniti’s pre-election survey in late March found that in this region, 60 per cent voters mentioned price rise and unemployment as issues that will determine their vote. This proportion was higher than in the south or east.

This brings us to the question: Will the Hindi belt continue to be enchanted by Hindutva despite economic issues and despite the Hindutva rhetoric reaching a crescendo? Many have commented on “Modi fatigue” but is it possible that there will also be a “Hindutva fatigue”? This is not to say that the Hindi belt will suddenly turn away from Hindutva. But the question we must ponder is: Will the voters, in spite of their love affair with Hindutva, begin to exercise agency, make assessment of factors like performance and explore alternatives?

That process, if it begins, will not be confined to any one state from the Hindi belt. As pointed out above, despite state specificities, the region tends to manifest a somewhat uniform trend. Therein lies the challenge for the BJP. If there is Hindutva fatigue, it will manifest in varying degrees, across the region. If the BJP sheds its excess weight gained since 2014 in the region, that could result in the doors of electoral competition being pushed ajar. When the campaign began, the competition appeared to be favouring the incumbent. As it closes, the central question that has arisen is whether the north, that periodically distances itself from dominant power holders, will unsettle the BJP, will begin to put it on notice or continue to latch on to the emotive appeal of Hindutva for the time being.
