رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Rabbish rah lee sadree Wa yassir leee amree Wahlul ‘uqdatan milli saanee Yafqahoo qawlee “My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech.” Surah Ta-Ha Ayat 25-28

Key Takeaways:

  • Public speaking is difficult but if you’re able to recognize and label the emotion you are feeling as you experience it, it can take away some of its power and hold over you. It’s similar to the fact that if you can catch yourself getting angry and say, “Wow, I am in a state of anger” it can provide you with enough distance to rationalize whether that anger is justified. Sometimes we need to take a deep breath, stand tall, and understand that whatever happens, Allah (swt) has created you capable of handling it, “Allah does not burden any soul with more than it can bear” (2:286). Develop more trust in your ability to handle whatever comes your way.
  • We can see Musa (as) mental fortitude when he says, “And ease for me my task”. There is no doubt or excuses in his conviction in what needs to be done as it will be done. He just asks for Allah’s help and guidance through it.

Sometimes when we don’t want to do something, we look for excuses, we look for exits, hoping some external force comes to derail the plan so we’re personally let off the hook. Musa (as) doesn’t do this, in his mind, his fate is already sealed, a promise within himself has been made and will be acted upon.

Allah entrusted Musa (as) with his message and commanded him to do the unthinkable, “Go to Firaawn; (Pharaoh) Indeed, he has transgressed.” ( 20:24 )

Imagined being tasked with telling the tyrannical King of Egypt that he has done wrong. A person you know to have a history of torturing and enslaving people.

Musa (as) does not dispute the responsibility that Allah had commanded of him. He accepts his role gracefully, shows complete trust in Allah (swt). But still, his job isn’t an easy one. There is some debate as to whether Musa (as) suffered from a childhood speech impediment. The prophet’s (may peace be upon them) were not born with any physical infallibility but they are human like you and me and can suffer from physical trauma.

Some Tafsir works and commentators relate a story of how Musa (as) as a child pulled hair from Firaawn’s beard. This act threatened Firaawn as he was paranoid that an Israelite may overthrow him one day (this is why he later ordered all newborns to be killed in Surah Baqarah ayat 49 ) He threatened to put Musa (as) to death but Asiyah (Firaawn wife, and the adoptive mother of Musa (as)) protected him saying he doesn’t know the difference between right and wrong. So, to test Musa (as) he put a fiery coal and ruby before him, if he could tell the difference between things that look the same he would sentence Musa (as) to death. With the objects in front of him, Jibreel came down and guided his hand to grab the fiery stone. Musa (as) then placed the coal into his mouth burning his tongue and impeding his speech. This was enough to convince Firaawn that Musa (as) couldn’t discriminate from right from wrong and it saved his life.

Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: “My people, do I not have dominion over Egypt, and are these streams not flowing beneath me? Can’t you see? Or am I [not] better than this one [i.e., Moses] who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? ( Surah Zukhruf ayat 51-52 )

Other scholars have argued that Musa (as) never suffered from a speech impediment and that the verse above just refers to Musa (as) as being difficult to understand or his talks to be confusing.

Either way – he feels the heavy burden of the task to confront Firaawn and is visibly anxious. At that moment he turns to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala and makes this du’a asking for the ability to be confident in his speech.

In this supplication, Musa (as) says, Rabbish rahli sadri , this translates to “My lord, my creator, open my chest”.

This does not literally mean to clear one’s chest but rather is an expression meaning to give assurance or confidence. To settle my fears, remove the emotions, and calm the nerves.

He then continues, wa yassirli amri meaning “And ease for me my task”.

We can see how strong-minded Musa (as) is, there is no doubt or excuses, his conviction in what needs to be done will be done, he is just asking for Allah’s help guide him through it.

Some things just need to be done and we need to have the courage to do them.

The beauty in this du’a is, it asks Allah for ease in the things we must do. It is in Allah’s control whether something will be easy or hard, so we turn to him and ask him alone to make it easy for us. It can become easy in two ways, (1) is we become more skillful through practice and repetition so the task no longer feels difficult, or (2) Allah (swt) makes it so the task wasn’t as challenging as we presumed it would be.

In the next part of this du’a Musa (as) says, wah lul uqdatan min lisaani , “And untie the knot from my tongue”.

Here Musa (as) recognizes that in the moments where he will be in front of Firaawn, he may feel uneasy. In those moments, your adrenaline levels spikes, and you may stumble or forget what you had planned to say.

Public speaking is difficult but if you’re able to recognize and label the emotion you are feeling as you experience it, it can take away some of its power and hold over you. I believe this part of the du’a is a self-reflection on the part of Musa (as). It’s similar to the fact that if you can catch yourself getting angry and say, “Wow, I am in a state of anger” it provides you with enough distance to rationalize whether that anger is justified. Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath, stand tall, and know whatever happens that Allah (swt) has created you capable of handling it, “Allah does not burden any soul with more than it can bear” (2:286). Develop more trust in your ability to handle whatever comes your way. You don’t face the same risks Musa (as) endured and if you ask yourself what’s the worse thing that could happen, you’ll often realize there’s nothing really at stake.

In the final section of this du’a Musa (as) says, yaf kahu kauli , meaning “That they may understand my speech.” Musa (as) prays to Allah that he may communicate and express himself clearly and freely causing those who hear his talk to leave with no doubt of the truth.

This blog will guide you through the transformative power of Musa’s Dua as we dive into its significance, benefits, and tips on how to make it part of your daily life!

Understanding the Importance of Dua for Confidence and Eloquence

In Islam, Dua for confidence and eloquence, such as the one made by Prophet Musa in Surah Taha, is essential. This supplication is more than a request for self-assurance; it is an admission of reliance on Allah SWT’s help.

As humans, we frequently face tasks that appear overwhelming or beyond our abilities, just as Prophet Musa felt when he was tasked with confronting the mighty King Fir’awn.

In these testing times, turning to Dua acknowledges our limitations and shifts the burden from our shoulders to Allah SWT’s infinite power. It also serves as a reminder that even Prophets sought divine assistance before undertaking significant endeavors.

As a result, incorporating this Dua into regular prayer routines can yield significant results over time. The advantages go far beyond improved public speaking skills or speech impediments; increased self-esteem and strengthened faith are two critical outcomes of repeating this Dua with sincere belief.

Furthermore, learning about Prophet Musa’s cry for help provides comfort on another level. If a prophet can admit his insecurities and seek divine intervention, we can all overcome our lack of confidence.

Understanding this Dua helps us realize that seeking Allah SWT’s help is more than just religious compliance; it is a practical empowerment tool against life’s daunting challenges.

The Powerful Dua for Confidence: Musa’s Dua Rabbish Rahli Sadri

The Powerful Dua for Confidence Musa’s Dua Rabbish Rahli Sadri

Dua in Arabic

The Dua for boosting confidence and eloquence, known as “Rabbish Rahli Sadri,” originates from Surah Taha in the Quran. This supplication was uttered by Prophet Musa while preparing to confront King Fir’awn.

Rabbi Shrahli Sadri Wayassirli Amri Wahlul Uqdatam Millisani Yafqahu Qaoli” ( 20:2 5-28)

English Translation

The English translation of Musa’s Dua has a profound meaning. It uncovers his plea to Allah SWT for clarity in speech and the unwavering confidence needed for his hefty mission.

“My Lord! Uplift my heart for me, and make my task easy, and remove the impediment from my tongue, so people may understand my speech” ( 20:2 5-28)

The phrase “Uplift my heart for me” signifies his request for patience, courage, and understanding. “Make my task easy” reflects his trust in divine aid against enormous challenges ahead; confronting mighty King Fir’awn was not an easy feat.

Dua For Clear Speech

Musa Dua For Clear Speech In Arabic and Meaning In English

Are you looking for a Dua for clear speech? Worry not, in this post, we will look at a beautiful verse and supplication that we can say and repeat when we are asked to speak to people or when you are asked to say something.

Dua For Clear Speech In Arabic

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Transliteration

The dua is transliterated as Rabbish rah lee sadree Wa yassir leee amree Wahlul ‘uqdatan milli saanee Yafqahoo qawlee.

Dua For Speech In English

The meaning of dua clear speech is My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech.

Dua For Clear Speech

Many times, we are given a task to do and we become worried about how we are going to fulfill the task, whether it is at home or at work or elsewhere, something that is on our shoulders.

And we wonder, how is this going to happen? So Allah SWT teaches us how to calm ourselves down, how to relax, how to be content while you are fulfilling this beautiful task. And what is the Dua for clear speech?

If you look at Surah Taha, between verses 25 and 28, Allah talks about a huge burden that he placed on the shoulders of Musa, alayhis salaam.

These are amazing verses and we are taught to recite on a daily task for any difficult task including clear speech.

  • Make clear for me my chest, means make it easy for me, make me strong, strengthen me.
  • Make easy this task for me, means make it easy for me.
  • And untie the knot on my tongue so that they understand what I’m saying.

We are taught we can repeat the same du’a whenever we are tasked to do something. Especially when you’re asked to speak to people, when you’re asked to say something, it is very important you hand your affairs to Allah.

You say a short prayer for the sake of Allah so that Allah will help you and you then be calm and relax. Allah will take care of things.

So Musa AS was granted the dua and he was very calm, very relaxed he was able to face the Pharaoh and ultimately succeed.

May Allah grant us success.

What To Do When You Speak In Islam

The Prophet (SAW) said, ‘He who truly believes in Allah and the Last Day should either speak good or keep Silent.’ (Muslim)

Speak clearly in such a way that those who listen to you understand you. Do not talk badly or talk too much. Say only what is good or keep silent.

It is good to keep silent but do not overdo it. This will annoy people around you. Always speak the truth. Think carefully before speaking.

Avoid saying something you might feel sorry for and for which you have to apologize. Breathe before you speak.

It takes nothing more than pausing -breathing -after the person to whom you are speaking has finished. Be a good listener.

Do not simply wait for an opening for your turn to speak. We often complete other people’s sentences, or say things like, ‘yeah, yeah,’ or ‘I know’ very quickly, as if asking them to hurry up so that we can have our turn.

Let others completely finish their thought before you begin yours. Do not speak hurriedly. It is better to speak neither too slowly nor too quickly, neither too loudly nor too softly. Such ways of speaking will irritate the listener.

The best way is the middle way. Look pleasantly at others when talking or listening to them. Keep smiling. It does not cost anything.

Do not make restless movements all the time. Do not giggle unnecessarily when talking to others. Do not make too many gestures or talk and laugh loudly.

Always speak the truth. Remember that whatever you say is recorded by two angels.

Speak in a low voice. Talking very loudly without a need shows foolishness. Allah’s Messenger (SAW) never talked quickly. He talked slowly. People could count his words if they wished.

Many times it happens that when two people are talking, one often begins talking before the other has finished.

This one is saying his thing, that one saying his; and neither in fact hears the other. Well! What is the use of such a conversation?

Always remember that when one speaker is finished, only then should the other speak.

Rabbish Rahli Sadri

Meaning Of This Dua From Tafseer As Sa’adi

My Lord, fill my heart with courage and steadfastness- so that I may bear with patience any offence in word and deed, and I will not be distressed by that or feel anxious.

For if a person feels distressed and anxious, he will not be fit to call people to guidance.

Allah said to His Prophet Muhammad (SAW):

It is by the mercy of Allah that you deal gently with them. If you had been harsh or hard-hearted, they would have dispersed from around you… Al ‘Imran 3: 159

People may be more receptive to the truth if the caller has a kind attitude, is steadfast and has an easy manner with people.

And make my task easy for me) that is, make easy for me every path I take and every aim I pursue for Your sake, and make bearable for me all the hardships that lie ahead of me.

Part of making his task easy is guiding the caller to handle matters in an appropriate manner and to speak to each person in the way that is appropriate for him, using the approach that will make the message more easily accepted.

And remove the impediment from my speech, so that they will understand what I say.

Many of you already know this dua for confidence by Musa (a.s). But have you ever wondered what makes it the most special dua for people with low-self esteem and self-confidence?

Because Allah taught this dua to Musa (a.s) after acknowledging his (a.s)’s feelings of nervousness and lack of confidence. Understand it this way;

Musa (a.s) was given a heavy duty, and it was to warn the Pharaoh of his corruption and persuade him to believe in one God (Allah).

But Musa (a.s), being a Prophet of Allah, was also worried and nervous to speak at the court of Pharaoh. Moses (a.s) heard Allah and was given divine signs, still he admitted his human weakness – lack of confidence and low self-esteem. He doubted his abilities.

(Moses said to his Lord) “My breast is constricted, and my tongue is not fluent.” Source: Al Quran (26:13)

The most special thing about this dua is Allah’s way of understanding Musa (a.s)’s fear of public speaking. By mentioning this incident in the Quran, Allah generalized it for all of us. It is Allah’s beautiful way of saying that It’s possible to get anxiety and have stage fear. Allah knows and understands you.

At the same time, Allah is giving you this beautiful dua of Musa (a.s) to say when you face low self-confidence in any sphere of your life. Whether it’s for school, college, university or workplace presentations or speaking to a friend about his wrongdoing.

Allah is also telling you in the last that He’s got you back. He’s giving you everything you need to speak with clarity. That He is with you right in the moment; when you gather the courage, revise stuff in your head and start speaking it in front of people.

Understanding the Dua of Musa (a.s):

This dua for confidence has four parts.

1: Open My Heart

The first thing that happens to you when you are under-confident is that your heart becomes constricted. It feels like your heart is not in control. It becomes full of nervousness that you can’t even focus on what you’re about to say. So,  Rabish Rahli Sadri   means: “Oh Allah open my heart for me”, which means calm down my heart and gives me relief so that I can be focused at the moment.

2. Ease My Task

After your heart is relaxed, the next challenge for people with low self-confidence is to perform the task. Often times with pressure and under-confidence tasks that are already difficult become harder. So,  Wa Yassirli Amri   means: “and make my task easy for me”, which means put ease in my task, and it gradually happens without a barrier or trouble.

3. Untie The Knot of My Tongue

Sometimes before the speech, your heart is in relief, and speech becomes easy, but things get too messed up in your head. You get confused by the complicated stuff in your head and don’t know how to explain your topic to people. So here comes the third part,  Wah Lul Uqdatan Min Lisaani : “Untie the knot in my tongue”, which means make complicated things easy for me, and make me articulate things rightly.

4. So They Understand

Your purpose of speech is to make people understand you. So,  Yaf Kahu Kauli : “So they understand me.”, which means I communicate in a way that people truly understand my speech. It inspires them. And it becomes impactful.

Conclusion:

The dua for confidence by Musa (a.s) is best to recite before giving a speech or lecture. It is a key for public speaking. This dua tells us so many beautiful things. It tells us that it’s perfectly ok to be overwhelmed by our insecurities. It is normal to get scared, nervous or anxious before giving a speech. It also teaches us that Allah can remove all your insecurities. You just need to make dua, trust Him and have taqwa- God-consciousness.

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim,

One of the best forms of worship is dua . Nothing brings one closer to Allah Azza wa Jall than talking directly with Him. He said in the Quran:

‏ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ

Call upon Me; I will respond to you. [Qur’an, 40:60]

The Prophet s.a.w.s. said,

الدعاء هو العبادة‏

Du’a (supplication) is worship. [Abu Dawud]

Allah has given us a 24/7 hotline for calling Him and asking Him of our need, whatever it is.

We say in our prayers in every single rakah every day:

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

It is You we worship and You we ask for help. [1:5]

So how do we ask Allah to help in our studies? If you’re like me, you’re often stuck with an assignment just two days before the deadline for submission, and you desperately ask Allah to help. Also we often find our studies difficult, we seem to be stuck with just one concept that is refusing to enter into our minds. Whenever we feel the pressure of studies, there is nothing better we can do than to ask Allah’s help, and in doing so, we turn our study pressures into an asset by making them a means of drawing closer to Allah.

Of course, dua is the easiest form of worship in that it can be done at any time, in any state, in any language. We can just raise our hands towards our Lord, call Him by His most beautiful Names, and talk to Him in our own language about our problems. But in fact it helps to have a few duas from the Quran and sunnah memorized, for the following reason:

The best form of speech is Allah’s own words, and what better words can we use to talk to Allah than what He taught us? The Prophet was the most eloquent person, and what better words can we use to call on Allah than those with which His most beloved servant called Him?

Duas for Studies

رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

My Lord! Increase me in knowledge. [20:114]

  • Supplication of Musa alaihi salam after he was commanded by Allah to go to Firaun and give da’wah to him.

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech. [20:25-28]

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision and acceptable deeds. [ibn Majah]

  • After Allah taught Adam the names of things, He asked the angels to name them. The angels said:

سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ

Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise. [2:32]

اللهمَّ فَقِّهْني فِي الدِّينِ

O Allah, make me comprehend the Religion.

This dua is derived from the hadith where the Prophet said: If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion. [Bukhari]

اللّهُـمَّ لا سَـهْلَ إِلاّ ما جَعَلـتَهُ سَهـلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْـعَلُ الْحَـزَنَ إِذا شِـئْتَ سَهـْلاً

O Allah, there is no ease except in that which You have made easy, and You make the difficulty, if You wish, easy. [ibn Hibban]

O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the knowledge which does not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded. [Sahih Muslim]

The Best Dua to be Recited at the End of a Gathering

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What is the best dua to recite at the end of a gathering?

The best dua is the dua which the Prophet ﷺ taught us:

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

Subhanakallahumma wa bi hamdika ashadu alla ilaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

Transcendent are You, O Allah, and praise be to You as You praise Yourself. I bear witness that there is no deity save You. I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You.

If possible you can also recite the verses of Habib ‘Abdullah bin Husayn bin Tahir which are traditionally recited at the end of gatherings. They can be found in the Khulasah. They should be recited before the Prophetic dua, which should be the last thing to be recited.

Recite this Dua Before Giving a Talk

dua for giving a presentation

Dua Before Giving a Talk

Rabbish rah lii sadrii wa yassir liii amrii wahlul 'uqdatam milli saanii yafqahuu qawlii

My Lord, expand for me my breast (with assurance) ease for me my task and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.

Importance, Benefits, and Why You Should Recite The Dua

This dua originated when Prophet Musa AS was given the important task of spreading His teachings. In one of his mission, he is expected to see Firaun and warned him that he has overstepped the boundaries and that if he does not ask for Allah's forgiveness, then he would be punished. This was not an easy task, especially knowing Firaun's history of tyranny and the practices of his people. So in order to be able to get through these hardships, he recited this dua to Allah in order to ask for strength and have the courage to go through this challenge.

This dua is recited to ask Allah to make his mission easy, clear his chest, and let the knot of his tongue be loosened in order to deliver His message and therefore have the people understand the message of Allah. Hopefully, the same will also apply to us by reciting this dua. Whenever there are hardships and are required to speak up or be courageous, then InshAllah we will gain His blessings and make the issues that lie ahead of you to be easier.

What to say at beginning and end of religious lesson

dua for giving a presentation

Assalaamu alaykum. I am planning to have a little gathering with my children every day in which we reflect upon Islam and read Quran and hadiths and talk about our religion for at least 10 minutes every day. This is because I want us to spend more time on our religion, connect with it, and increase our knowledge and faith. I do not know what this type of 'gathering' is called, but some people in my family call this 'Ta'leem'. I was wondering, before I start this gathering, is there something that I should say in the beginning before I start talking about Islam? And when I am finished, is there something that I have to say before finishing? I am asking because when I see Islamic lectures on the internet, the scholars say some supplication before starting and before finishing their lecture. I want to do this perfectly so that my children, Allaah willing, learn correctly.

Firstly, we would like to commend your keenness on studying religion with your children. This is a good gesture on your part; we implore Allaah to accept your righteous deed.

You should start your session with the Basmalah (i.e. saying Bismillaah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem; which means: 'In the name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Ever Merciful') and recite Khutbat Al-Haajah: 'Alhamdulillah nahmaduhu wa nastaʻeenuhu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa naʻoothu billaahi min shuroori anfusina wa min sayyi'aati aʻmaalina, man yahdih-illaahu fala mudhilla lahu wa man yudhlil fala haadiya lahu, wa ashhadu alla ilaaha illa Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ʻabduhu wa rasooluh.' (Which means: Praise be to Allaah! We praise Him, We seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evils of our souls and our misdeeds. Whomever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomever Allaah leads astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allaah, alone without partners unto Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.) Then you should recite the following verses of the Quran:

Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means):

- { O you who have believed, fear Allaah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims (in submission to Him). } [Quran 3:102]

- { O mankind, fear your Lord, Who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allaah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allaah is ever, over you, an Observer. } [Quran 4:1]

- { O you who have believed, fear Allaah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will (then) amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment. } [Quran 33:70-71]

When you finish the session, you should conclude it with praising Allaah and reciting the supplication to be recited at the end of every assembly: "Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, Ashhadu allaa ilaaha illaa anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk." (O Allaah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is none truly worthy of worship except You; I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.)

Lastly, we implore Allaah to help you provide a good upbringing for your children upon what He loves and what pleases Him and that He helps you sow the seeds of knowledge, righteousness, and piety within them.

Allaah knows best.

Seeking refuge with Allaah at the beginning of a khutbah or lecture

Publication : 04-09-2007

Praise be to Allah.

It is not prescribed to seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed shaytaan when starting to speak, except when reciting Qur’aan only. Allaah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So when you want to recite the Qur’aan, seek refuge with Allaah from Shaytaan (Satan), the outcast (the cursed one)”

[al-Nahl 16:98]

It is not mustahabb for the preacher or speaker to start his words with seeking refuge with Allaah, unless there is a reason for doing so, such as if the shaytaan is whispering to him (waswaas) and filling his heart with pride or self admiration and the like. There is nothing wrong with seeking refuge with Allaah in that case for that reason, when seeking refuge is not done in order to start speaking. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And if an evil whisper from Shaytaan (Satan) tries to turn you away (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) (from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Verily, He is the All‑Hearer, the All‑Knower”

[Fussilat 41:36].

Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd said:

It is not prescribed to seek refuge with Allaah when starting to speak about something good, apart from recitation of the Holy Qur’aan. Hence starting to speak or preach by seeking refuge with Allaah has no basis. This is indicated by what Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) noted when discussing the benefits of seeking refuge with Allaah, when he said:

Seeking refuge before reciting is a signal that what is to follow is Qur’aan. Hence it is not prescribed to seek refuge before any other kind of speech, rather seeking refuge is an introduction that alerts the listener to the fact that what is to follow is Qur’aanic recitation, so that when the listener hears the words seeking refuge, he can prepare himself to listen to the words of Allaah. It is also prescribed for the reader, if he is alone, for the reasons that we have mentioned of this ruling and others. End quote.

Tasheeh al-Du’aa’ (p. 273).

7 Best Duas Every Muslim Should Say

In times of our anxieties and hardships, when we feel spiritual lows, and our souls become dark and we don’t feel like doing anything… Our hearts become hard and our days become empty.

How Remembering God Makes Us Stronger at Heart

Some of us resort to doctors and medicines, others seek relief in talking their problems to people, but a few of us remember to turn to Allah in the first place to treat our problems. We know Allah is the Most Loving; we believe He is bigger than our problems.

Prophet Muhammad said about remembering Allah:

Do not talk too much without remembrance of Allah. Indeed excessive talking without remembrance of Allah hardens the heart. And indeed the furthest of people from Allah is the harsh-hearted. ( At-Tirmidhi )

He also said:

The house in which remembrance of Allah is made and the house in which Allah is not remembered are like the living and the dead. ( Muslim )

The following are some of the most important duas and hadiths that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged us to say.

" title="Advertise and Market to Muslims" target="_blank">Ads by Muslim Ad Network

1- Best Dhikr

The best remembrance is: ‘there is none worthy of worship except Allah ( La ilaha illallah )’ and the best supplication is: ‘All praise is due to Allah ( Al-ḥamdulillah ).’ ( At-Tirmidhi )

2- Best Dua For Glorifying Allah

Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise). ( Muslim )

Transliteration

Subhana Allah wa bihamdihi adada khalqihi wa rida nafsihi wa zinata arshihi wa midada kalimatihi.

3- Best of Dua

O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire. ( Al-Bukhari and Muslim )

Rabana atina fi dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan wa qina adhaba an-nar.

4- Best Dua For Forgiveness

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: “O Allah! You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshiped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I knowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.”

The Unlimited Forgiveness of God

If somebody recites this invocation during the night, and if he should die then, he will go to Paradise (or he will be from the people of Paradise). And if he recites it in the morning, and if he should die on the same day, he will have the same fate.” ( Al-Bukhari )

5- Best Dua For Protection

The Prophet said:

He who recites three times every morning and evening: ‘In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing,’ nothing will harm him. ( Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi )

Bismi Allah alladhi la yadorru ma’a ismihi shay’ fil ardi wala fi sama’ wa huwa sami’u al alim.

6- Best Dua For Depression

“The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus ) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors.

So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.” (At-Tirmidhi)

7 Ways to Overcome Depression

(La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu mina adhalimeen.)

7- Best Dua For Inner Peace

Abu Musa (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah said to me:

“Shall I not guide you to a treasure from the treasures of Jannah?”

“Yes, O Messenger of Allah!”

Thereupon he (peace be upon him) said:

(Recite) ‘ La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah ‘ (There is no change of a condition nor power except by Allah). ( Al-Bukhari and Muslim )

La hawla wa la quwwata illa bi Allah al ‘aliyyi al adhim.

Stories for Muslim Kids

Short stories for muslims of different ages, starting du’aa (in a gathering).

It is narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“A statement that does not begin with praise of Allah and blessing upon me, remains deficient and bereft of blessings.”  (Abu Dawud, 13/184)

Here are 4 suggestions on how one could start one’s speech in a gathering, in shaa Allah. Suggestion 1 is the longest. Suggestion 4 is the shortest. (You may use any of these or a combination of any of these suggestions.):

Just in case the above has broken links:

Source: https://abuaminaelias.com/dailyhadithonline/2011/12/26/khutbah-al-hajah-how-to-begin-a-khutbah-sermon-in-arabic-and-english/

All thanks and praise is due to Allah. We seek His help and forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and the consequences of our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whoever Allah leads astray will never find guidance. I bear witness there is no God but Allah, alone without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.

Allah Almighty said, “ O you who have faith, fear Allah as it is His right to be feared and do not die except as Muslims ” (3:102)

And Allah Almighty said, “ O people, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another and maintain family ties. Verily, Allah is ever watching over you .” (4:1)

And Allah Almighty said, “ O you who have faith, fear Allah and speak upright words. He will correct your deeds and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has won a tremendous victory .” (33:70-71)

Verily, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of affairs are newly invented matters. Every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

To proceed (and then begin the sermon).

Dua from quran for successful public speech.

Islamic dua for giving public speech

Listen to dua multiple times

  • Stage fright and anxiety will not touch you Inshallah: By allowing Allah to step in and take charge of your mind, tongue and words, you simply flow through the moment as fear of the audience gets minimized. Thank Allah in advance for removing stage fright.
  • Audience will understand you: When we are coming with divine force, the people, their judgment and our own fears and doubts disappear. You will gain renewed confidence and power by surrendering to Allah. Give thanks to God in advance for this benefit.
  • Right ideas and words will flow through your tongue: Our mind is limited as it is based on past memory and experience. When faced with tough and critical audience, it's natural for a public speaker to lose momentum. But when you already surrender to the Creator of ideas and words and the Creator of your and your audience's mind, nothing can shake you Inshallah.
  • You will capture audience attention with unseen power: When we truly trust something more powerful and more intelligent than our tiny little self, our mind relaxes and sits on the back seat, and then help and aid flows to us like a miracle. Give thanks to Allah in advance for this benefit.
  • You will feel you are more mature than the listeners: I have experienced this sense of great control and power over my listeners many times, that it seems you are explaining things to a five-year-old child. With Allah by your side, you miraculously break out of the psychological trap that gives false impression about your audience's level of awareness and maturity. The Infinitely Intelligent Lord is the winner every single time when we put our trust in Him.
  • You will not care about listeners' reaction: The miraculous power of this dua is that you gain bullet-proof confidence when it comes to listeners' reaction. You don't care what they think about you. All you will care about is the delivery of your speech. Your only goal is to powerfully convey your message. The rest will be handled by Allah inshallah.
  • You don't care about audience approval or rejection: Once you firmly fix your speech goal in your mind with heartfelt thanks to Allah through this dua, you stop being hungry for approval by your audience. Yes, you like respect from the audience, but don't put them on a pedestal. You don't owe them money. They will be sitting there just to listen to what you have to say, not become your judge. What if the audience is not friendly? Who cares? Are they God? They are tiny little humans just like you with countless flaws and weaknesses of their own. Don't let the audience become God in your own mind. Only Allah's approval is what really matters.

Tips for powerful results

Let allah know you trust his ability to make you successful public speaker, thank in advance .

dua for giving a presentation

‘All eyes on Rafah’ is the Internet's most viral AI image. Two artists are claiming credit.

The image on the right was generated by Zila Abka in February. She says she created it with Microsoft’s Image Creator. On the left is the viral image that Amirul Shah said he created also using an AI image generator tool.

Two Malaysians separated by 900 miles are both taking credit for a synthetic image of Gaza that became the most viral ever AI-generated photo, underscoring the complexities of authorship and ownership in an online landscape increasingly overrun with content created by artificial intelligence.

The story behind the “all eyes on Rafah” graphic, which has been shared about 50 million times on Instagram and other platforms, likely begins on the northern tip of the Southeast Asian island of Borneo.

There, back in February, Zila Abka was at her home playing around with Microsoft’s AI tool Image Creator.

Abka is a 39-year-old science teacher and an AI art hobbyist. She’s also a pro-Palestinian activist. She wanted to make a piece of political art that depicted those sheltering in camps in the Gazan city of Rafah.

Zila Abka is a school teacher in Malaysia. She is active in the Facebook group Prompters Malaya, a gathering place for mostly Malaysian AI artists to show their work.

After the phrase “all eyes on Rafah” started going viral, Abka said she wrote a prompt for the AI tool to create an image that would have the phrase spelled out by white tents amid dense rows of other tent encampments. The words had become a rallying cry after a World Health Organization representative used them to draw attention to the situation in the region where hundreds of thousands of displaced people have fled.

When Microsoft’s Image Creator spit out a graphic, Abka put two watermarks on it: One indicating it was generated by AI; another saying she was the creator.

She liked it. So she shared a post on Feb. 14 in her language — Malay — to the Facebook group Prompters Malaya , a gathering place of about 250,000 mostly Malaysians who share AI-generated art, sometimes about the war in Gaza.

“I wanted to spread and highlight the issue and hoped that everybody would do whatever they could to show solidarity with Gazans right now,” Abka told NPR.

Akba has not previously spoken out about making the image.

Abka: 'I think this is mine,' but the watermarks are gone

From there, she basically forgot about it — until last week, when she saw a very similar image on Instagram, spreading rapidly following an Israeli strike in the city that killed dozens and prompted worldwide condemnation.

But the image was altered. Her watermarks were gone. And the image was expanded to include snow-capped mountains looming over the tents, an almost surrealist touch, an AI riff on Gaza’s Middle Eastern landscape.

Zila Abka generated this image in February.

At first, she was offended that someone had laundered her image and removed her name from it. In addition, She was initially alarmed that the “AI generated” disclaimer was missing just as tens of millions of people were re-sharing it across the internet.

She zoomed in to examine every letter and corner of the viral image. She concluded that it had to be hers.

“Everything about the structure of the words and the arrangement of the ‘tents,’ it’s all the same, except for the expanded part,” she said. “When I saw it, I thought, yeah, I think this is mine.”

But her annoyance over not getting credit soon dissipated.

“I don’t think any generated AI image is fully someone’s belonging,” Abka said.

Indeed, the U.S. Copyright Office has repeatedly rejected copyright protection for AI-generated images since they lack human authorship, placing the AI images in a legal gray area.

It was, however, Abka’s unique prompt that summoned the image. She said that should be worth something, though galvanizing support for Gaza was always her main impetus.

“If the aim is to spread awareness,” Abka said about the version of the image that went viral, “then I think I should thank that person.”

The person behind the account 'Shahv4012'

Amirul Shah is a college student and photographer in Malaysia. The “all eyes on Rafah” image he created has been shared nearly 50 million times on Instagram.

That person is Amirul Shah, known as Shahv4012 on Instagram. He is also Malaysian.

The two do not know each other, nor have they ever communicated.

Abka believes he took her image, edited it and created an Instagram “template,” which has since surged on social media, amassing nearly 50 million shares on Instagram and millions more on other social media platforms.

Abka thinks Shah cropped her image right above her watermarks, then edited it with a tool that uses AI to expand and re-imagine the background of a photo. She believes this because she tried it herself on her own AI rendering and got results strikingly similar to the viral image.

Shah’s image has his own watermark on it with the tag of his Instagram account dedicated to his photography, @chaa.my_, giving the impression that the whole thing was his original undertaking.

Amirul Shah added his generated image to an Instagram template that was amplified by celebrities like Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid.

When Shah was reached for an interview, he denied copying Abka’s creation. Instead, he shared a different version of events.

Shah, a 21-year-old college student in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, has not previously spoken out about his process.

A photography enthusiast, Shah, says he was toying around with an AI image generator recently. He thinks he used Microsoft’s Image Creator, the same service Abka used, but he claims he can’t remember.

When he added it to an Instagram "template," it ricocheted around the world, as influencers and celebrities like Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid amplified it to their millions of followers.

The image looks uncannily like Abka’s, but he claims he hadn't even seen Abka's before making his own.

Still, the size of the words, placement of each letter and AI-generated clusters of tents next to the phrase are identical. But Shah’s version is portrayed from an higher aerial view, with deeper and longer shadows cast by snowy mountains.

He said he was giving all sorts of Gaza-related AI images a try as a form of activism, not angling for virality.

“My intention was not for popularity,” Shah told NPR. “I wanted to uphold justice for all Palestinians who are there.”

Shah says AI images spread faster

Technologists say that generating the same exact AI image twice is exceedingly unlikely.

In dozens of attempts to recreate the image using Microsoft’s Image Creator, NPR was not able to prompt the tool to create a visual that came close to the viral one. Most of the time, the tool struggled to correctly spell “All eyes on Rafah,” a limitation of many AI image generators, which tend to depict words misspelled or warped in some way.

These are the results produced for NPR by Microsoft’s Image Creator after given a prompt to produce a realistic-looking aerial photo of Rafah, with the phrase “all eyes on Rafah” superimposed among the tents.

Shah, who regularly shares posts on social media highlighting the plight of Palestinians, said he has noticed that real photos and videos of the war tend to have limited reach on Instagram.

“The picture from AI can spread faster in a short time,” he said. Shah says another problem is that he has had graphic images of war removed by Instagram for violating the platform’s policies. He said he’s aware that repeat violations can mean that “users can get blocked,” he said.

Felix Simon, a research fellow at the University of Oxford who studies AI’s impact on public discourse, said the image being created by artificial intelligence fueled its virality far less than other factors.

“The simplicity of the slogan, the symbolism at work, the timing and political context, and the fact that it was shared by celebrities,” said Simon, adding that “the lack of graphic content makes it less likely to get taken down, which helps, too.”

It is a concern that has been echoed by other activists who have claimed graphic imagery that shows the atrocities of the war in Gaza can be removed from platforms, or suppressed by social media algorithms.

Some commentators criticized the meme for portraying a sanitized version of war that renders human horrors on the ground in Gaza into an easily-shareable AI image.

Both Abka and Shah reject that idea, saying AI images can be a useful way to grab peoples' attention and make them engage in some way with the war.

Yet there is no agreement among them about who created the viral image that has spurred discussion around the world about the authenticity of online activism and renewed attention on an internet increasingly rife with realistic-looking AI depictions.

When pressed in direct messages on Instagram for a response to Abka’s contention that her image was copied, Shah blocked an NPR reporter.

Here’s What the Prosecution Said in Its Closing Argument in the Trump Trial

Donald J. Trump orchestrated a conspiracy that influenced the outcome of the 2016 election, the prosecutor, Joshua Steinglass, said.

Over more than five hours on Tuesday, a Manhattan prosecutor made his final case to the jury in Donald J. Trump’s criminal hush-money trial that the former president had orchestrated “a conspiracy and a coverup” to help him win the 2016 presidential election.

The prosecutor, Joshua Steinglass, argued that 20 witnesses called to the stand and evidence presented during six weeks of testimony had shown that Mr. Trump was guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The charges stem from his repayment, made on the eve of the 2016 election, of hush money that silenced a porn star’s account of a sexual encounter a decade earlier.

Mr. Steinglass wove a sweeping story of how Mr. Trump, with help from The National Enquirer and his former fixer, Michael D. Cohen, among others, sought to bury negative news stories about Mr. Trump in the days and months before the election. One effort included the catch-and-kill operation to buy the silence of Stormy Daniels, the porn star, which Mr. Steinglass said kept the American public from knowing about her account when they voted.

“This scheme, cooked up by these men, at this time, could very well be what got President Trump elected,” Mr. Steinglass said. “This was overt election fraud, an act in furtherance of the conspiracy to promote Mr. Trump’s election by unlawful means.”

A deal with Ms. Daniels took on extra urgency, he said, following the leak in October 2016 of an “Access Hollywood” tape that captured Mr. Trump bragging about grabbing women’s genitals.

Mr. Steinglass started his closing argument by countering the statements by Mr. Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche earlier in the day. He said that the Trump team’s closing argument — which claimed that Mr. Trump was a victim of extortion — did not change the underlying facts of the case. And, Mr. Steinglass noted, extortion is not a defense for falsifying business records.

Mr. Steinglass acknowledged to the jurors that some of the witnesses had biases. Both Mr. Cohen and Ms. Daniels have talked publicly about wanting to see Mr. Trump convicted, and Mr. Cohen admitted on the stand that he stole money from the Trump Organization. But he said their testimony was credible and often corroborated by others who took the stand.

“I’m not asking you to feel bad for Michael Cohen,” Mr. Steinglass told the jury. “He made his bed.”

At the end of the marathon day, just before 8 p.m., Mr. Steinglass said that while the former president is a former president, the law applies to him the same as it does to everyone else.
