Ghost Movie Review: Another Failed Attempt At Making A Horror Flick
Movie Review:
Ghost is yet another failed attempt by Vikram Bhatt at giving the Indian audiences a good horror flick. The film follows a UK-based politician of Indian origin, Karan Khanna (Shivam Bhaargava). He is charged with the murder of his wife but is adamant that his wife had lost her life at the hands of an evil spirit. His lawyer (later lover) Simran (Sanaya Irani) has a hard time proving his innocence in the court of law. As much as the film is about horror, it is also about love and trust. The film follows Simran’s attempts at proving his innocence while trying to stay alive at the same time.
The writing of the movie by Vikram Bhatt feels slow at certain points. Some extra scenes to make the movie scary could have been avoided. The movie has nothing new in terms of writing.
Directed by Vikram Bhatt, the movie is full of twist and turns – right till the end. While some may say this is what happens in most of his films, the picturesque London adds more charm and appeal to the film. Vikram Bhatt offered us nothing new than his usual direction in Ghost.
The music is nicely placed and doesn’t seem forced. The songs so in sync with the film’s track. The music is good but not something that will makes it way to the top of the charts for a period of time.
Technical Departments:
Bollywood has always been notorious for generating laughable CGI for their evil characters and sadly in this evil murder mystery is also laughable to certain extents. Vikram Bhatt has enough experience in the genre but fails to avoid certain clichés. Since the start of murder mystery, the plot doesn’t thicken.
Performances :
Sanaya Irani is likable as the emotional but troubled soul lawyer who recently lost her father and has an almost non-existent love life. She uses the years of experience she gained on television and makes her performance believable. Shivam Bhaargava, isn’t half as convincing as Sanaya’s character. Given this is his debut performance we can cut some slack but not too much. Caroline Wilde, who plays the ghost in the film, leaves a memorable impact.
Ghost offers nothing new, neither in terms of storytelling nor in evoking a fear with its thrills and spills. This one’s another shot in the dark and doesn’t hit the bull’s eye.

GHOST movie review is here. Written and directed by Vikram Bhatt, the movie features Sanaya Irani and Shivam Bhaargava in the lead roles. Is this GHOST eerie enough?!. Let’s find out in the movie review of GHOST.
Immediate reaction when the end credits roll This ‘GHOST’ may sound familiar in the beginning but later takes an unexpected twist.
The Story of GHOST Based on a newspaper article in which the British Court had allowed a matter involving spirits to be tried. GHOST is the story of Karan Khanna (Shivam Bhaargava ), a politician of Indian origin in the United Kingdom, who is accused of killing his wife Barkha (Gayatri Iyer).
Defence lawyer Simran Singh (Sanaya Irani) who is fighting her inner demons takes the case and how Karan and Simran get entangled in a web of haunting spirits and love finds the crux of this supernatural saga
GHOST movie review Vikram Bhatt uses every elementary requirements of a Bollywood supernatural thriller and infuses it with his flair of confidence. The buildup is smooth the effects are sturdily built.
A couple of scenes like the hospital scene where Karan Khanna follows the ‘satan’ but finds the spirit getting passed to every passerby is build with mounting dread laced with dark humour and suspense.
The mere presence of that hand is scary. Vikram Bhatt effectively uses the learning’s from his previous movies of the genre with his education from Mahesh Bhatt’s school of mystery, scares, drama and romance for a pleasurable experience for a Bollywood horror/mystery loyal.
The lead cast Sanaya Irani, Shivam Bhaargava, Gayatri Iyer are competent. Ananya Sengupta is s surprise. Vikram Bhatt impresses as an actor shows a degree of subtlety.
Prakash Kutty cinematography is picturesque; Sangeet and Siddharth Haldipur’s background music is fantastic. Editing by Kuldip Mehan is fine.
Music by Nayeem –Shabir, Sanjeev–Darshan, Arko Pravo Mukherjee, Sonal Pradhan and Vinay Ram Tiwari is passable when one is watching the movie.
Final words Vikram Bhatt’s GHOST is a tour de scare that takes care that a loyalist of Bollywood’s supernatural horror/mystery is not disappointed. It’s effective and with that uncommonly intense and frightening twist during the final reels makes it as an experience worth a try.

Movie Review: Ghost
Ghost Devesh Sharma , Oct 15, 2019, 14:01 IST
Karan Khanna (Shivam Bhaargava), is a politician of Indian origin in the United Kingdom, who is accused of killing his wife. He tells his lawyer Simran Singh (Sanaya Irani) that a spirit committed the murder. She doesn't believe him initially but later starts having ghostly experiences of her own that convinces her that he was right. They get romantically involved during the case as supernatural encounters keep escalating. Secrets too tumble out of the closet on regular basis. The film becomes a race for survival for the couple who need to exorcise the ghost fast if they wish to stay alive.
Vikram Bhatt has taken over from the Ramsays as the chief supplier of horror fare for Indian viewers. He often sets his films abroad in order to offer a variety. Also, he tries to offer different kinds of spirits and ghouls to send a shiver down our spines. Spirit possession is the name of the game here. To compound the effect, there are plenty of empty houses, institutes et al for the spirit to conveniently play hide and seek with. Jump cuts, scary masks and eerie music are plentifully used as well.
Unlike spirit possession films from Hollywood like Poltergeist (1982), for instance, the proceedings are less gory. They don't gross you out. Though whether that's a good thing or a bad thing for a horror film is anybody's guess. The length is around two hours. However, things take place so slowly that you begin to fidget in your seat. The director has shown the heroine to be a morphine addict but hasn't played up that card. You feel she would think what she's seeing are drug induced hallucinations but that hasn't been explored. One murder too has been inexplicably left unexplained.
The romantic angle between the two leads lack much spark. The songs too lack intensity. Sanaya Irani is more expressive of the two leads. Shivam Bhaargava keeps giving you glimpses of Aftab Shivdasani and kind of goes through the motions.
In short, go watch the film if you are the sort who has to watch every horror film. Otherwise, one can give it a miss...

#36 - Directed by Vikram Bhatt from Asian Horror Challenge 2023
Progress: 54/61
First things first, that the movie is actually also known as "Duh" couldn't, somehow, be more fitting lmao 😂🤣 The production is indian/american, while being filmed in London (yes, this is messy the whole way).
So, "Duh" aka "Ghost" was definitely one messy (and almost entirely awful) movie, IMO. No doubt a very fitting challenge but for all the wrong reasons lol
Not sure who rated this as a horror/thriller but it is also a drama/romance (with a few specific mind-boggling "musical-like" scenes for the effect) and not a thriller, at all (IMO). Some stuff is so bad that you could arguably consider it a "comedy" from…

whoever said this is a horror movie LIED, this is the goofiest shit I’ve seen in a longtime.
Review by Tejas Nair ½
Ghost is made up of a dozen jumpscares (most of which are dream sequences), horrible acting by the lead actors, cringe-worthy dialogues that sound like deadpan taped narration, and romantic songs played randomly and that is why you need to stay away from this inedible horror film. TN.

Demi Moore says she’s intrigued by Channing Tatum ‘s plans to remake the 1990 Oscar-winning film, Ghost .
The film grossed $506 million at the global box office and won two Oscars at the 1991 Academy Awards — one for Best Original Screenplay, and the other for Whoopi Goldberg’s supporting performance.
Moore spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the potential remake.
Tatum has not spoken to Moore about his plans. “No, he hasn’t,” but added, “He’s super talented. I’d be curious to see what he decides to do.”
Tatum previously told Vanity Fair that he wanted to take on the role originated by Patrick Swayze in the film, which followed a murdered banker (Swayze) using a New York City medium (Goldberg) to warn his girlfriend (Moore) of a looming threat to her life.
“But we’re going to do something different,” he said. “I think it needs to change a little bit.”
