Aim: The objective of this study was to point out abstinence knowledge in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health, with justification to evaluate athlete’s abstinence knowledge from eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) as health education method in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health among athletes at Njala Campus. Method: Behavioral Health Risk Modified Survey Questionnaire (BHRMSQ) was the research instrument for the survey. The variables of the findings were proved at level of significance p<0.05 through an inferential statistical instrument called Dependent t-test (t). The researchers interviewed mainly undergraduate athletes with an average number of one hundred and fifty (n=150), of which 37% (n=55) female and 63% (n=95) male, were selected using the stratified random sampling. Also stratified were 43.2% (n=65) from the School of Agriculture-to-Environmental Science; 57% (n=85) from the School of Education-to-Technology; 83 % (n=125) from level (100-to-200); 17% (n=25) from level (300-to-400); 60% (n=90) within the age circle of (18-to-25); 40% (n=60) within the age circle of (26-to-30+) in years. Results: Analysis shows negative skewedness in all three variables as placed in tabulated values (t-scores of 0.237, 0.452 and 0.318)of 5, 7 and 9 when proved at p < 0.05. Conclusion: The findings demonstrated that majority of athletes’ lack abstinence knowledge from eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) regarding health education method in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health among athletes at Njala Campus.

Researchers studying clinical eating disorders and eating symptomatology in African American women often use eating disorder risk factors and symptoms that have been validated primarily for women of European American heritage. However evidence suggests that the prevalence of disordered eating is increasing among African American women in contemporary society and that research studies are more valid and treatments are more effective when culturally specific values, beliefs and worldviews are considered. This paper presented several factors associated with dysfunctional eating behaviors for African American women. The significance of acculturation, body image attitudes, physical appearance norms, racial identity, social oppression, social status, popular culture/mass media, and psychoemotional and physical characteristics are discussed. Key words: eating disorders, African Americans, women, race, culture

Abstract 1. This study investigated the differential risk factors for the initiation of binge eating and the transition from binge eating to bulimia nervosa. Women from a population-based twin registry (850 complete pairs) were assessed with respect to specific measured variables (including demographics, religiosity, lifetime psychopathology, current symptomatology, and personality) and latent genetic and environmental variables.

Objectives: This clinical practice guideline for treatment of DSM-5 feeding and eating disorders was conducted as part of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) Project 2013–2014. Methods: The CPG was developed in accordance with best practice according to the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia. Literature of evidence for treatments of anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), binge eating disorder (BED), other specified and unspecified eating disorders and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) was sourced from the previous RANZCP CPG reviews (dated to 2009) and updated with a systematic review (dated 2008–2013). A multidisciplinary working group wrote the draft CPG, which then underwent expert, community and stakeholder consultation, during which process additional evidence was identified. Results: In AN the CPG recommends treatment as an outpatient or day patient in most instances (i.e. in the least restrictive environment), with hospital admission for those at risk of medical and/or psychological compromise. A multi-axial and collaborative approach is recommended, including consideration of nutritional, medical and psychological aspects, the use of family based therapies in younger people and specialist therapist-led manualised based psychological therapies in all age groups and that include longer-term follow-up. A harm minimisation approach is recommended in chronic AN. In BN and BED the CPG

Objective: Fear of negative evaluation has been proposed as a transdiagnostic factor associated with the development of eating disorders and has been shown to relate to disorders of body image, especially those with weight/shape concerns such as eating disorders and muscle dysmorphia. The current study aimed to investigate whether fear of negative evaluation was a transdiagnostic factor of disorders diagnostically characterized by weight/shape concerns. The study examined whether fear of negative evaluation was associated with higher odds for meeting criteria for an eating disorder and/or muscle dysmorphia, especially those disorders diagnostically characterized by weight/shape concerns. Method: Data were used from a subgroup of the first wave of the EveryBODY study, a longitudinal investigation of eating disorders and body image concerns among Australian adolescents (N = 4,030). Participants completed measures on demographics, weight/shape concerns, disordered eating, psychological distress, muscularity concerns, and fear of negative evaluation. Results: Findings revealed that fear of negative evaluation was associated with higher odds of meeting criteria for any eating disorder but significantly more so for those characterized by weight/shape concerns diagnostically, as well as binge-eating disorder. Similar results were found for muscle dysmorphia. Discussion: The findings suggest that fear of negative evaluation constitutes a transdiagnostic feature for developing and/or maintaining an eating disorder.
