Assignment Activity 1: Explain the core concept of digital marketing.

Digital marketing is the process of designing, executing, and suffocating an advertisement. The task of creating and executing an advertising campaign requires a lot of thought and research because there are so many different aspects that go into the design, development, execution, and content-creation stages.

To be successful, advertisers must understand their competition, their target market(s), what resonates with our audience (our “core consumer”), why people might be Sword State students but not think about it too much, and change their tune about our industry in light of new information or global phenomena such as climate change; but most importantly – changing from a one-track journey to a multiple- Tracks approach will help us get where we want to be fast.

It is also associated with various digital media platforms, such as social media, email, search engines, and websites. The growth of digital media has made digital marketing the most powerful form of advertising. Even traditional channels are changing to fit more digital content into them, emphasizing its importance in a modern-day marketing strategy.

Additionally, businesses that use digital technologies to manage customer data can get more out of facial recognition technology and cut down on human Data: Technologies for Evolution.

Schools use digital technologies in the marketing mix to communicate with customers about the products and services they offer. By themselves, digital technologies cannot do away with customer satisfaction; however, they can help schools and their customers develop a more effective relationship through automation. school students could be using computers at all times to access Digital Marketing content, which would then be combined with visual aids such as infographics to help students understand what is being said. This combination of technology and education could go on throughout the school system so that children from birth to pre-school are included in the learning process.

Gabriela Salinas and Jeeva Somasundaram

Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.

In April this year, Hein Schumacher, chief executive of Unilever, announced that the company was entering a “new era for sustainability leadership”, and signalled a shift from the central priority promoted under his predecessor , Alan Jope.

While Jope saw lack of social purpose or environmental sustainability as the way to prune brands from the portfolio, Schumacher has adopted a more balanced approach between purpose and profit. He stresses that Unilever should deliver on both sustainability commitments and financial goals. This approach, which we dub “realistic sustainability”, aims to balance long- and short-term environmental goals, ambition, and delivery.

As a result, Unilever’s refreshed sustainability agenda focuses harder on fewer commitments that the company says remain “very stretching”. In practice, this entails extending deadlines for taking action as well as reducing the scale of its targets for environmental, social and governance measures.

Such backpedalling is becoming widespread — with many companies retracting their commitments to climate targets , for example. According to FactSet, a US financial data and software provider, the number of US companies in the S&P 500 index mentioning “ESG” on their earnings calls has declined sharply : from a peak of 155 in the fourth quarter 2021 to just 29 two years later. This trend towards playing down a company’s ESG efforts, from fear of greater scrutiny or of accusations of empty claims, even has a name: “greenhushing”.

Test yourself

This is the fourth in a series of monthly business school-style teaching case studies devoted to the responsible business dilemmas faced by organisations. Read the piece and FT articles suggested at the end before considering the questions raised.

About the authors: Gabriela Salinas is an adjunct professor of marketing at IE University; Jeeva Somasundaram is an assistant professor of decision sciences in operations and technology at IE University.

The series forms part of a wider collection of FT ‘instant teaching case studies ’, featured across our Business Education publications, that explore management challenges.

The change in approach is not limited to regulatory compliance and corporate reporting; it also affects consumer communications. While Jope believed that brands sold more when “guided by a purpose”, Schumacher argues that “we don’t want to force fit [purpose] on brands unnecessarily”.

His more nuanced view aligns with evidence that consumers’ responses to the sustainability and purpose communication attached to brand names depend on two key variables: the type of industry in which the brand operates; and the specific aspect of sustainability being communicated.

In terms of the sustainability message, research in the Journal of Business Ethics found consumers can be less interested when product functionality is key. Furthermore, a UK survey in 2022 found that about 15 per cent of consumers believed brands should support social causes, but nearly 60 per cent said they would rather see brand owners pay taxes and treat people fairly.

Among investors, too, “anti-purpose” and “anti-ESG” sentiment is growing. One (unnamed) leading bond fund manager even suggested to the FT that “ESG will be dead in five years”.

Media reports on the adverse impact of ESG controversies on investment are certainly now more frequent. For example, while Jope was still at the helm, the FT reported criticism of Unilever by influential fund manager Terry Smith for displaying sustainability credentials at the expense of managing the business.

Yet some executives feel under pressure to take a stand on environmental and social issues — in many cases believing they are morally obliged to do so or through a desire to improve their own reputations. This pressure may lead to a conflict with shareholders if sustainability becomes a promotional tool for managers, or for their personal social responsibility agenda, rather than creating business value .

Such opportunistic behaviours may lead to a perception that corporate sustainability policies are pursued only because of public image concerns.

Alison Taylor, at NYU Stern School of Business, recently described Unilever’s old materiality map — a visual representation of how companies assess which social and environmental factors matter most to them — to Sustainability magazine. She depicted it as an example of “baggy, vague, overambitious goals and self-aggrandising commitments that make little sense and falsely suggest a mayonnaise and soap company can solve intractable societal problems”.

In contrast, the “realism” approach of Schumacher is being promulgated as both more honest and more feasible. Former investment banker Alex Edmans, at London Business School, has coined the term “rational sustainability” to describe an approach that integrates financial principles into decision-making, and avoids using sustainability primarily for enhancing social image and reputation.

Such “rational sustainability” encompasses any business activity that creates long-term value — including product innovation, productivity enhancements, or corporate culture initiatives, regardless of whether they fall under the traditional ESG framework.

Similarly, Schumacher’s approach aims for fewer targets with greater impact, all while keeping financial objectives in sight.

Complex objectives, such as having a positive impact on the world, may be best achieved indirectly, as expounded by economist John Kay in his book, Obliquity . Schumacher’s “realistic sustainability” approach means focusing on long-term value creation, placing customers and investors to the fore. Saving the planet begins with meaningfully helping a company’s consumers and investors. Without their support, broader sustainability efforts risk failure.

Kwan’s three-run home run, ingle’s grand slam push captains to 8-6 victory.

mkt558 group assignment 3

Kwan delighted the crowd at Classic Auto Group Park with a three-run home run while he worked toward returning to the big leagues from a pulled left hamstring. His homer and Cooper Ingle’s grand slam helped the Captains beat West Michigan, 8-6, in a game that also marked the High-A debut of pitching prospect Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson.

The Captains (25-19) now hold a half-game lead over Great Lakes in the Midwest League East standings.

On his initial run to the majors, Kwan skipped Lake County, which at the time was the Guardians’ Low-A affiliate. He played four games with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2018 and moved to the High-A Lynchburg Hillcats in 2019.

PHOTOS: Steven Kwan with Lake County Captains, May 25, 2024

When he arrived at Lake County this week, Kwan checked the roster and saw a familiar face in Justin Boyd, a fellow former Oregon State Beaver. Kwan, 26, is among the youngest members of the Guardians’ roster. But he is a wise veteran among his peers at Lake County.

“It’s good to just get to play baseball again,” Kwan said. “There isn’t a timeline on getting back to the Guardians yet, and we’ll play it day by day. I was looking at the roster today to see if I knew any of the players here, I know Justin but it’s crazy to see guys born in 2000, 2001. It makes me feel old, but it’s been cool so far. We’ve been chatting baseball mostly so far. They’ve been helping me out, showing me around, they’ve been helping me a lot and as the game gets going there will be chances for me to help them out but they’re showing me around like a new guy.”

Kwan was drafted at 21 years old and reached the Guardians at 24.

The Lake County players had the chance to learn from Kwan in spring training. The biggest tip he said he’s given the younger players is to focus on continued improvement.

One of those young players is Wilkinson. While Kwan didn’t talk to Wilkinson before the first pitch, he had the same message for all of the players.

“I let the starting pitchers do their own things, they’re very process-oriented,” Kwan said. “I’ve talked to a lot of these guys before during spring training. We’ve had those conversations, I’ve talked to (Isaiah) Greene a lot, it’s taking the mystique away from the big leagues. The big leagues are the same as High-A baseball, it’s the same every day. It can get mucked up a lot when things like money or fans but I’ve just been telling them everything is the same. As long as you get your work done, do the right things, everything will fall in place.”

In the game, West Michigan jumped on Wilkinson early with a solo home run by Roberto Campos in the top of the second inning, after batting out of order and an out to be assessed to Luis Santana.

The Whitecaps added two more in the third as Seth Stephenson and Max Anderson drove in one each on a double and single, respectively.

The Captains got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Jorge Burgos and Maick Collado led off the inning with a pair of singles and Guy Lipsomb drove in one with a single of his own. Kwan then had his three-run shot to right center and gave the Captains the lead.

West Michigan had a quick answer in the top of the sixth. After a lead-off walk and a single from Anderson, Campos sent a shot that bounced off of Collado’s glove and rolled to the Whitecaps bullpen for a two-run triple. Luke Gold drove him in on a shallow single to left.

The Captains responded with three singles from Jonah Advincular, Alex Mooney and CJ Kayfus loaded the bases for Cooper Ingle. He followed Kwan’s lead and went to right-center for a grand slam to retake the lead.

Ingle was excited to pick Kwan’s brain prior to the game

“I knew the pitcher for West Michigan was one of their best guys and I didn’t want to see his slider since it’s really good,” Ingle said. “I wanted a fastball that I could hit and connected with one. Kudos to the guys for getting on base for me to get me in that position.

“I think Steven is very personable and easy to talk to which helps. A lot of us have similar approaches at the plate so any knowledge we can get from him is like gold. Just the way he handles the day-to-day business and the routine, which is the most important part, it’s going to be really good to have him around.”

The Captains go for the series victory on May 26 with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Carter Spivey (2-1, 4.55 ERA) takes the bump for the Captains. West Michigan counters with Joe Miller.

About the author

James rodgers.

James Rodgers writes books on international affairs, especially armed conflict. His work has a focus on how the stories of those events are told to the world. Much of his writing draws on his own experience reporting from the former Soviet Union and the Middle East as a journalist from the 1990s onwards. During his BBC career (1995-2010), James completed postings in Moscow, Brussels, and Gaza where, from 2002-2004, he was the only international correspondent based in the territory. His numerous other assignments included New York and Washington following the September 11th attacks; reporting from Iraq in 2003 and 2004 during the United States-led invasion; and covering the wars in Chechnya.

James now lectures in International Journalism at City, University of London. He still works as a journalist, too--contributing work to the BBC, NBC Think, Forbes.com, Monocle Radio, and others.

10 clutch points: naz reid sparks timberwolves, but it's not enough to overcome mavericks, 1. wolves needed one last three from naz, and they didn't get it.

On a night when their stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards combined to shoot 9-for-33, Timberwolves Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid made eight of his 13 shots.

Oh, and seven three-pointers. But on a night when the Wolves needed an eighth, his shot at a buzzer-beating three rimmed out in a crushing, last-second loss 109-108 to Dallas Friday night at Target Center.

Dallas first-team All NBA guard Luka Doncic's only basket in the fourth quarter was a step-back, three-point winner over Wolves big man Rudy Gobert with three seconds remaining after the Wolves led 108-106. Doncic finished with a 32-point, 13-assist, 10-rebound triple-double.

With Towns on the bench, the Wolves twice looked to Reid to win it for them in the final 13 seconds, but Edwards threw a pass away looking for Reid, which set up Doncic's winner.

2. Mavs trades proving the difference

The Mavericks transformed their athleticism, rim protection and their team with trade-deadline moves that brought them bouncy center Daniel Gafford and stretch power forward P.J. Washington. At the same time, rookie Dereck Lively II began to live up to his surname as the season progressed.

In Friday's victory, Gafford and Lively combined to shoot 14-for-16 for 30 points — Gafford 16, Lively 14 — on a Friday night when they, not Doncic or Irving, sent the Mavericks home to Dallas with a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference final.

"On championship teams, the right pieces fit," Dallas coach Jason Kidd said before Friday's game. "Sometimes it's like a No. 1 pick: Sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't. That's what makes sports fun: Put the pieces of the puzzle together. Sometimes, they fit. Sometimes everyone thinks they will fit, but it goes the other way."

3. Is there's a better way to defend a Doncic?

TNT's studio crew — out of the studio and in Minnesota for these first two games — approved the Game 2 adjustments Wolves coach Chris Finch did, particularly analyst Kenny Smith. The Wolves double-teamed Doncic much more often than they did in Game 1.

The Wolves doubled to get the ball out of Doncic's hands, but had one of the defenders — Reid and Kyle Anderson often — then drop down to defend the paint and the rim.

4. Waiting for Gobert

The Wolves waited a season for Towns and Gobert to get healthy and learn to play with each other.

So did the Mavericks' Doncic-Irving backcourt.

They combined for 63 points in Game 1. In Game 2, Doncic carried them both with that triple-double while Irving had 20 points.

"I think some people give up too soon, you know," Irving said Friday morning, "Obviously you can have a three-year run, a four year-run. But I think people give up too soon in the first year or two years to try and put pressure on guys to be very successful right away."

5. Where did that three game 20-point scoring streak go?

After three consecutive 20-point games, Wolves best defender Jaden McDaniels missed his first five shots — including 0-for-3 on threes — and didn't make a shot until midway through the third quarter.

He finished 1-for-6 for two points and no three-pointers made.

6. Let's get ready to rumble …

Gobert and Doncic stared each other down during a confrontation when Gobert reached in to steal the ball from Doncic. He committed a hard foul, to which Doncic took exception.

What do you think the Tale of the Tape would be for a bout like that? We'll take Gobert's reach for starters.

7. What a way to start a game …

One day after Finch criticized his team for its performance, attitude and attention to detail in Game 1, the Wolves needed just 34 seconds to show they must not have listened a bit.

They were forced to call a timeout after the Mavericks made the game's first basket. Conley fetched it bouncing under the basket, but his other four teammates all turned their backs and ran to the court's opposite end.

With no one there to catch the in-bound pass, Conley had to call a very early timeout.

8. Remembering George Floyd a day before May 25

Fans stood for a moment of silence before the game to remember George Floyd, who was killed by a Minneapolis police officer four years ago on Saturday. His image was shown on the overhead scoreboard during the pause, and several of Floyd's family members were in attendance.

9. Bringing back Timberwolves from yesteryear

Wolves alumni sightings: Original Timberwolf Doug West from that first 1989-90 team, former Trail Blazer/Wolf Terry Porter and former first-round draft pick John Thomas, a member of the Gophers' 1997 Final Four team. Hockey Hall of Famer and former North Stars No. 1 overall draft pick Mike Modano. Former NBA No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden (2007, an Ohio State teammate with Conley). Local hip-hop artist Atmosphere. And of course, Wolves minority owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez as majority owner Glen Taylor sat courtside — on opposite sides — as well.

10. Fans win free chicken but go home one-point losers.

The sellout announced 19,363 got fried-chicken sandwiches coming to them after the opponent — Irving, of all players — missed consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. Irving missed both with 1:44 left and the Wolves leading 106-103, then came back 40 seconds later and made a stone-cold three with 1:05 left that got his team within 108-106.
