The best photo slideshow software turns your images and music into a seamless presentation

Best photo slideshow software

The best photo slideshow software can turn your long list of photos into a lively and engaging experience. From family holidays and trips with friends to your kids' sports and arts progress – this software is ideal for sharing your beloved images with others.

The best photo slideshow software does more than simply pairing images and music. Some will help you remove any out of focus or unclear shots so you get the best end result. Then you can add more such as annotations, maps and beyond.

These programs work across a host of devices and some even offer more advanced video editing tools for you to work with while remaining easy to use. Or, for more basic versions that work right there on your smartphone, there are the likes of  PixGram for Android and PicPlayHost for iOS which are free and easy to use but lack more complex features.

Image editing is possible on a basic level with filters included on many of the programs, allowing you to make certain snaps pop out as needed. But to go deeper on this you'll want to look at the best photo editing software . Should you want to keep all your photos organized, to make the whole process far easier, then look into getting one of the best photo organizing apps too.

Movavi Slideshow Maker 7: Best photo slideshow software overall

Movavi Slideshow Maker 7

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Movavi Slideshow Maker 7 is a versatile photo slideshow software package that will get you good results in minutes, and excellent results the more you learn its tools and features. There's a handy montage wizard to get you started, and that may be all you need for most of the slideshows you end up creating - this is very simple to use, even though it has all the hallmarks of an actual video editor.

Movavi includes a whole variety of effects, transitions, and filters to make your slideshows stand-out, and you can use it for everything from fun social media fodder through to serious photo presentations. The more technical video effects like camera pans and zooms will give you more editorial control over your slideshow, while the effects, stickers, and animations will help you keep things entertaining. There are over 160 filters, and more than 100 animation effects, so you can really craft a variety of slideshows. It's ideal for weddings, graduation parties, birthdays and more, as well as more serious stuff like business presentations and showreels.

You can overlay music too, which draws from the library on your computer, and you can mix in videos with your photos if you want to create mixed media. Movavi exports to all the most common photo and video file types, so you don't need to worry about compatibility, and there's an option to save direct to a YouTube channel or - if you want to share on other social media - to Google Drive. The negatives? Well, some may never use many of the features, and could just use a free app, but anyone serious about making a quality slideshow will love what Movavi has to offer.

2. PhotoStage Slideshow 8: Best budget slideshow software

Photostage Slideshow 8: Best photo slideshow software on a budget

PhotoStage Slideshow 8

PhotoStage Slideshow 8 is one of the cheapest options for creating slideshows, and is very simple to use too. It lacks a handful of features you may find elsewhere, but has more than enough for most people to create excellent slideshows. We recommend it for anyone who isn't going to use all of the flashy graphics and transitions offered by other programs. There are no backgrounds, filters or themes, but there are plenty of transition effects to choose from. This includes more elaborate transitions like fading into the next image in the expanding shape of a heart or simply scrolling from one side of the screen to the other. You can make simple edits such as cropping and rotating your photos, and adjusting contrast, hue and brightness. We found the slideshow playback to be crisp and of good color quality in our tests. This software handles the most common audio and video formats, so you can spice up your slideshows with mixed media. The area where this slideshow software really falls short is in the help and support, but honestly, this program is so easy to use that you likely won't need to contact anyone at NCH for help.

In terms of export, you can save your slideshow as a variety of popular file types, or upload directly to YouTube, Vimeo, or Flickr. Or, if you want, you can save directly to your smartphone or tablet. Simple.

3. CyberLink PhotoDirector 12: Best editor with slideshow options

CyberLink PhotoDirector 12: Best photo slideshow software editing tools

CyberLink PhotoDirector 12

CyberLink PhotoDirector 12 has the right balance of features for anyone looking to create professional-looking slideshows. It's primarily a photo editor, with all the tools you'd expect from a full-featured photo enhancement program, but with the option to create slideshows via the 'Create' tab. The reason we recommend PhotoDirector above other photo editing apps is because it's simple to use and it helps you create incredible results with very little effort, even if it does lack some of the more advanced tools that professional editors need.

There are a whole host of tools for enhancing your photos, including things like dispersion effects, which give you the power to animate particles in your images with ease. This can add a serious wow-factor to your slideshows. There are also editing options for cropping, layers, background changes, and all kinds of creative effects to give your photos some zing.

As a slideshow creator it's simple to use, with various headers, overlays, transitions, and everything you need to craft a compelling presentation. Some who want basic options may find it overwhelming, despite its simplicity, so this really is for anyone looking to create pro-looking slideshows. And it's a little more expensive than some other options in our guide. However, there's no denying you get excellent results.

4. PixGram: Best slideshow app for Android devices

PixGram: Best photo slideshow software for Android

PixGram is one of the best slideshow apps if you want to simply create slideshows and montages on your smartphone. There's a free version and it covers you for almost all the features you need, although you're restricted to three-minute videos/slideshows until you purchase the premium version.

This one is primarily designed to help you set slideshows to music, and to share them direct to social media. You can import images and videos direct from your phone's gallery into the app, and combine it with any music you have purchased and saved to your device. There are plenty of filters to apply to your images, and a decent range of video editing options, but it does lack transitions. What matters most is that this is easy to use, and you can quickly share results to most of the popular social media platforms in a variety of aspect-ratios that each one supports. For example, the 16:9 format suits Facebook, while the 1:1 is perfect for Instagram.

There are definitely limitations here, and if you're using the free version you'll get in-app ads (much like you do in most free apps). Those looking for fancy transitions should consider other options, but anyone who wants to simply create slideshows and montages on their phone, without using a laptop or computer, should seriously consider PixGram.

5. PicPlayPost: Best slideshow app for Apple devices

PicPlayPost: Best photo slideshow software for Apple devices

PicPlayPost

PicPlayPost is a surprisingly powerful slideshow (and video) tool for iOS devices. It has a vast number of features, and can craft montages and slideshows in 1080p and 4K, if you have a compatible iPhone or iPad. You can download it for free, but this version is very limited, and you're definitely going to need to subscribe if you're looking to use the majority of the tools. This is expensive, at $6.99 per month (or an even higher one-time payment), so consider if you're really going to use it that much.

There are so many transitions, sticker, effects, and filters - you can get seriously creative with your slideshows and montages. It's simple to use, but there are loads of deep editing options for those who want to create professional-looking presentations and video montages. You can create gifs, slideshows, movies, and collage images, making this perfect for crafting memes too. The slideshows can last up to 30 minutes, and it'll access music from your device.

If you're constantly adding custom videos and slideshows to social media, this is probably worth the price of subscription, especially as you can create videos and images specifically formatted for social channels. If you're looking for something a little more simple, then this is probably a bit much (ironically, though, the free version doesn't offer enough for even basic use).

6. PhotoStory Deluxe: Best for beginners

PhotoStory Deluxe 2020: Best photo slideshow software for beginners

PhotoStory Deluxe

If you're new to the whole photo slideshow thing, and you want a no-nonsense piece of software for your home computer, then PhotoStory Deluxe is just the thing. There's a slideshow wizard to help get you started, and introduce you to most of the main features, and after that the interface is nice and simple. There's a built-in editor too, which lets you enhance and make basic edits to the images you've added, and while options here are relatively limited compared to other editing programs, there's enough here to make your slideshows look rather professional.

You can export your slideshows to most common formats, and there are options for VR slideshows and 360 videos, which is a nice touch. We love the travel map feature too, which allows you to create slideshows that show off all your vacation-snaps. The grandkids will love to see all of those!

There are options to upload your slideshows and videos direct to places like YouTube, although you retain the ability to burn them to a DVD too, in case you want to mail your substantial slideshows to friends, family, or clients. You can simply save them onto your home computer device too. While the editing tools lack features, and we do think this is mid-priced among slideshow creators, it's still worth considering if you're a newcomer seeking to create slideshows to thoroughly entertain your friends and family with.

What features should you look for in slideshow software?

Slideshow software does offer some photo editing options but these are basic and won't replace a fully fledged photo editor. So if you simply want to crop, rotate or remove the redeye from a picture, then this slideshow software may be enough. But for anything more complex you'll be left wanting.

A useful feature to look out for is the ability to arrange your photos by themes. This can help in making it easier to insert appropriate backgrounds and transitions for the slideshow.

The photo organizing software mentioned above can help as it allows you to cut down the images to the best ones only. Being concise is important for a slideshow where too many pictures - especially many similar ones - can really put people off.

Voiceover recording is a really helpful feature which can add another layer of context to what is being seen. Even more valuable if you're sending this to someone and you won't actually be there to explain what's being shown.

Talking of sharing, this is important so be sure your software can export in a file format that's easily accessible. MP4 is a common video file format that most devices will be able to open and more slideshow software should output to. Plus it condenses well meaning it can be sent without taking up too much space or time.

While most of these options are very intuitive, it can pay to have decent help and support, should you wish to try the more complex features on offer. So keep an eye out for this as a useful feature too.

Tips for creating a compelling slideshow

  • According to Memories Renewed , when it comes to slideshows ten to 12 images are typically displayed within a minute. This means that a 100-image slideshow will likely last ten to 12 minutes. Take this into account when creating your slideshows.
  • For an elegant slideshow, don’t use distracting transitions. Stick with a simple fade between images.
  • Choose music and images that are appropriate for the event. You don’t want to play raucous music or have disrespectful photos at a funeral, for example.
  • Know how the slideshow will be used. If it’s going to play in the background it can go on forever. However, if you’re going to draw everyone’s attention to it as a special presentation, keep it short and simple – three to five minutes. People typically don’t have long attention spans.
  • Add statements from loved ones, when appropriate, to make it extra special.
  • Make sure you run through the slideshow beforehand to make sure everything works properly. Fix any problems. This includes the transitions, graphics and music.

By Eva Williams 16 days ago, Video Editing Tips

apple photo presentation software

Regardless if you’re putting together an office or school presentation, you can make your life a lot easier with the best slideshow maker for Mac. With its help, you can create professional slideshows comprised of photos and videos.

Test the programs from this list if you want to make fascinating clips from your images while adding music or sound effects to the background.

Top 7 Slideshow Makers For Mac

  • iMovie - Native Mac program
  • PhotoStage - Budget software
  • Wondershare Filmora - The royalty-free audio library
  • iSkysoft Slideshow Maker - Great set of professional themes
  • Google Slides - Online slideshow maker
  • VideoPad - A lot of video and audio effects
  • Keynote - For presentations

When trying to find the most interesting slideshow makers, I prioritized functionality and reliability. I also considered the availability of editing features, a sound library, and the ability to add audio, gifs, and clipart.

Additionally, the best slideshow programs should preferably come with a variety of transitions, similar to what you’d receive from a photobook service.

1. iMovie - Our Choice

  • You can add music and sound effects
  • The Magic Wand tool to enhance images

Verdict : PhotoStage enables you to drag and drop your photos on the stage, create text frames around each photo, and then add special effects and transitions to the picture. This slideshow maker is also great for editing and organizing your pictures before you start working on them in Photoshop.

You can change the color scheme of the collage by choosing different colors from the ones that are already pre-set. The colors are also adjustable, allowing you to choose whether or not to use bright, vibrant colors, or neutral tones. Your slideshow can be displayed on your desktop, TV, iPod, or iPhone for the full effect.

3. Wondershare Filmora

  • Hundreds of effects
  • Easy to add background music or effects
  • You can share video on YouTube
  • You need to pay to unlock all features

Verdict : There are several things that make Wondershare Filmora for Mac stand out from the crowd. First of all, it has features like the ability to easily change the layout of the slides, add text or images and create different styles, as well as adding transitions and apply a variety of effects. Beyond that, it works with a wide variety of formats including PDF files, OTF files, and JPEGs.

This product comes with two different versions of the program, the free desktop version and the one that comes with the purchase. In my experience, the free desktop version works quite well, although it lacks some of the neat features that come with the purchased version.

4. iSkysoft Slideshow Maker

  • Share it on iTunes and YouTube

All you need to do is click on the draw tool and drag your mouse over the picture to make it ready to upload. Once you have uploaded your pictures and formatted them as you desire, all you have to do is point your mouse cursor at the target picture and let the software take care of the rest.

6. VideoPad

This product features two ways to edit your video: one is the time-lapse mode and the other is the super slow-motion mode. The slow-motion mode provides smoother movement on the video. You can easily transfer the video so you can share it with family and friends.

Master Slides and Themes in Keynote

Choosing File > New in Keynote opens a theme chooser; a collection of templates that have distinctive design styles. Although you might want to start with a blank canvas there is no option to do so. Even the most basic themes Black, and White, are a collection of Master Slides for title and subtitles, title and bullets which should be applied to slides as you build your collection. It’s no accident that Themes have to be applied, because using Master Slides is the best way to enjoy a pain free life using Keynote.

A typical business presentation might contain a Title & Subtitle slide, followed by Title & Bullet slides, with a few Photo slides mixed in. If you build your presentation using those master slides from the Improv theme, then later you need to swap the theme to Artisan, or better still your custom theme, by simply clicking the Change Theme button in the Document Inspector automatically swaps your presentation to the appropriate master slides in the new Theme.

To make your own theme create a presentation from a theme that most closely matches the design you want. Then modify the fonts, colours, backgrounds on all the Master Slides in your presentation; you can even add a company logo to every slide master too. When the design is complete choose File > Save Theme and followed the onscreen instructions to save your design as a theme.

Using Outline Mode in Keynote

Using Outline Mode in Keynote

When building a presentation you can use one four options for viewing slides in Keynote; Navigator, Slide Only, Light Table, and Outline. Navigator is the default view and works well for most situations, but for sketching out ideas, and sequencing your thoughts try Outline view. It presents slides in a list and bullet form.

To move to Outline view, click the View button in the Toolbar, a pop-up menu appears, from it choose Outline. To evaluate the usefulness of the outline view try the following. In the outline pane click next to the slide icon and type ‘Point 1’. Press return, and a new slide appears. Press the Tab key, the slide indents, becoming a bullet on the slide ‘Point 1’.

To outdent the bullet press Shift-Tab. Type ‘Point 2’.

Pressing return creates a new line at the same indent level as the line above it. At the top level this means pressing return creates new slides, and Tab and Shift-Tab can be used to alter the hierarchy of any bullets. Bullets and Slides can be sequenced by dragging either their bullet or slide icon up or down the Outline pane.

Once you’ve settled on a basic outline you can apply a new Theme to your presentation and attend to the look and feel of your work.

Layer options for Master Slides in Keynote

Layer options for Master Slides in Keynote

After recommending that using master slides is the way to go, you’ll need to be aware of two concepts to fully utilise them. To experiment create a new presentation. Choose File > New and from the template chooser double-click any theme.

In the open presentation click the View button in the Toolbar and select Edit Master Slides. When working on masters a blue bar appears at the bottom of the slide pane. You can modify the existing slide elements or add new ones.

The text, and image boxes on Master Slides are formatted as placeholders. This means you’ll need to replace their contents with your own words or pictures when working on standard slides. However if you want to add a logo to a master slide, it should not be a placeholder. Fortunately by default images placed in to Keynote are not placeholders. You’ll probably want the logo to be the top most object in the layer order. This can be done using the Arrange tab of the Format inspector. That covers the first concept. The second is to allow objects on slides to layer with master.

If you add a photo to a slide and find that it sits on top of a logo placed on the Master, you won’t be able to move the photo behind the logo using layer options unless you do the following. In the Edit Master Slides mode click the required slide thumbnail. In the Format inspector, labelled Master Slide Layout select the Allow objects on slides to layer with master.

Apply Transitions in Keynote

Apply Transitions in Keynote

Transitions are the animations that can be applied to slides. They can add drama, a sense of fun, or set the pace for a presentation. For example, to make hard hitting points you might choose Grid, for a showing a series of fine art images Dissolve would work well. However for greater level impact change the transition timings from their default. Use faster options to be more hard hitting and go much slower for contemplative presentations on fine art, or meditation.

Choose Play > Play Slideshow to test out Transitions to make sure you’ll hold your audience’s attention. To change the Transitions on all your slides in one go, select all the slide thumbnails. In Navigator view, click on or near a thumbnail and press Command A. With all the thumbnails selected you can use the Animate inspector to change the type and timings of the selected slides.

One cautionary note, if you’re planning a presentation for playback via webinar software, regardless of whether you’re using Keynote or Powerpoint, animations do not stream well. So you might want a second version of your presentation formatted for webinar use with the animations removed.

Control read on in Keynote

Control read on in Keynote

Builds are animations that are applied to objects on slides. When an object is selected the inspector displays three tabs, Build In, Animation, and Build Out. Using builds is a great way to control presentations, in particular bullet points. If a slide is presented to an audience with all the bullet points revealed as the slide opens, the presenter has no way to prevent the audience reading the entire slide; reading on.

Setting a Build In for bullets is relatively easy. Click to select the Text Box containing the bullets. In the Animate Inspector select the Build In tab and select the desired animation; Typewriter is one you might consider. To complete the build, in the Inspector change the Delivery to By Bullet. Now, when you preview the slide the bullets only appear on click.

Builds and animations can be applied to text, graphics, and photos. The order in which you apply the animations becomes the order in which they play, this order can be changed, except on bullets. Click the Build Order button at the bottom of the Inspector. A floating window appears, dragging a build element up or down the window changes the build order. The Build Order window can also be used to set builds to run automatically either with a preceding build or after it.

Connection lines for flow charts in Keynote

Connection lines for flow charts in Keynote

Explaining processes using flow charts is often a great way to illustrate matters. Keynote comes loaded with all the shape objects you’ll need to create bubbles, squares, triangles, and so on. Clicking the Shape icon in the toolbar opens a pop-up containing all the shapes. Clicking one will place it on a slide.

Double-clicking a shape allows you to add text directly inside the object. Then the usual formatting options can be applied to modify the shape as required. So far much of this process is pretty intuitive, but resist the temptation to use the line options found when clicking the Shape icon to connect the elements of your chart. It is better to use Connection Lines.

Control-click the Toolbar in Keynote. A pop-up menu appears, choose Customize Toolbar. A vast set of icons appear. Locate the Connect icon and drag it to a space on the Toolbar. Then click Done to close the Customize Toolbar options. To apply a connection line you’ll need to select two Shape objects on a slide. To follow along add a couple of Shapes to a slide, and then select them. Now click the Connect icon in the Toolbar. The Shapes are now connected, select just one of the shapes and drag it round the screen. The connection line remains connected.

Like shapes, connection lines can be formatted to change their colour and weight, you can even add arrow heads and animations.

Push Keynote presentations to iCloud

Push Keynote presentations to iCloud

You can develop a Keynote presentation exclusively on OS X, iOS, or on the iCloud web browser  version. As stated in the introduction the Mac OS X version is the most capable and feature rich version of the application. None of OS X features are lost when a presentation is saved to iCloud Drive, but the ability to edit via the browser or iOS versions will have a few limitations. With that said, if you were building a report presentation on topics that required a site visit, for example, production line improvements in a factory, or a school report on a castle, you may want to add photos taken on your iPhone.

Ahead of the visit to wherever, you might want to create a draft presentation containing image place holders and save it to iCloud Drive . Open the presentation on your iOS Device and go to the image placeholders and tap the plus symbol in the bottom right of the placeholder, this opens a new screen with links to your Photos library, but at the bottom of the screen you’ll see a text button, Take Photo or Video. Tapping this for the first time may invoke a request for Keynote to access your photos. Accepting this let’s you take photos from directly inside Keynote adding them automatically to the placeholders in Keynote.

Using rehearsal mode in Keynote

Using rehearsal mode in Keynote

Keynote’s rehearsal tools help you to work out the overall timing for your presentation. Rehearsing might highlight parts of the script that don’t work when read aloud. Also slides containing large media files, such as video, may take a couple of seconds to load. If you’ve not aware of this, come the big day, you might be unnerved when you click or tap to play a video and nothing happens in the instant you expected, so you click again and advance to the next slide.

In rehearsal mode a coloured bar appears across the top of the screen. It displays as a hatched amber line as a slide or media loads and then green when Keynote is ready to advance. The coloured bar, or Ready to Advance Indicator, appears on the presenter display too.

Slideshows can be delivered on dual displays; one being a presenter display and the other the slides for the audience. Here’s how to configure the Rehearsal or Presenter display.

In Keynote, choose Play > Customize Presenter Display. A window appears that lets you use checkboxes to enable the features you require. Note that the timer options can be set to show time remaining, an ideal option when working to a fixed schedule. You can also drag and scale presenter elements such as Current Slide and Next Slide to suit your needs.

Remote control and Keynote

Remote control and Keynote

When you want to play a presentation from a Mac, but don’t want to stand over the computer to click through the slides, you can use the Keynote app for iOS as a remote control. To do this you’ll need Keynote installed and open on your Mac and an iOS device such as an iPhone. Furthermore both devices have to be on the same WiFi network , this could be computer-to-computer. If both devices are on the same network you’re all set to follow the next steps. To learn more about setting up a WiFi connection you can review Help on your Mac and on your iOS device.

On Keynote for your iOS device tap the iPhone-shaped icon at the upper left of the screen to open the remote options. On the Welcome to Keynote Remote popover tap continue. The iOS device searches for the Mac running Keynote.

On your Mac choose Keynote > Preferences. Click the Remotes tab. If both devices are on the same network the Remotes preferences will show your iOS device. Click Enable and then Link. The iOS device displays a passcode that also appears on your Mac. On your Mac, click to confirm you want to link devices. Once linked Keynote for iOS displays a large Play button. Tap the Play button and you’ll be controlling your presentation remotely.

Skip slides bin Keynote

Skip slides bin Keynote

As deadlines loom, you may find your presentation doesn’t fit the allocated time. There is no need to delete slides to trim your Keynote. It is better to skip slides, and perhaps speed up a few transitions, rather than start to delete parts of your work. This suggestion can be expanded to trying to work with only one Keynote presentation per topic. For example, a marketing presentation might be designed to run for 10 minutes, but it might also need to fit to an occasional five minute slot. Skipping slides makes an efficient workflow because come the day slides need updating with new product shots, or a new company logo, only one Keynote presentation needs to be updated rather than several.

In Navigator view, select the slides you want to skip. Control-click any of the selected slides. From the shortcut menu, choose Skip Slide. Skipped slides appear as thin bars in the Navigator. To switch off skipping, control-click a skipped slide and from the shortcut menu, choose Don’t Skip Slide.

Slides can also be skipped in Outline and Light Table view too. In Light Table view skipped slides appear greyed out, unless the Hide skipped slides box is selected; found in the bottom left of the document window.

How to Choose the Best Slideshow Creator

We’ve covered 20 best slideshow maker software for PC you can use to create your own project. Consider your needs and pick the program that suits them the most. For example, do you want to make a pro-level slideshow with 3D effects and custom animations? Take a closer look at SmartSHOW 3D or ProShow.

Need a quick presentation for your colleagues? Go with Google Slides or Kapwing. Don’t want to pile up your HDD with software? Have a rather stable Internet connection? Try an online service - Kizoa or Smilebox.

Still not sure what to pick? Here's what to look for when choosing a slideshow maker:

  • Supported OS. Always check the compatibility of the software you choose with your device. There are some programs suitable for several operating systems, but usually they are only compatible with one of the following: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android. It is also worth thinking which device you’ll be using to build presentations - a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
  • Ease of use. Some programs can be far too cumbersome and require in-depth mastering. If you're a newbie or don't want to spend time learning the workflow, look for software that has an intuitive interface and automatic features.
  • Price. If you’re on a small budget and don’t intend to create slideshows often, consider choosing a free slideshow app. Can’t seem to find the right one among them due to the limited toolset? Then take a look at some paid software with a free trial period. It allows you to invest your money wisely because you can test out the program before purchasing.
  • Available features. If you need software to make professional-looking presentations quickly and easily, choose the option with an integrated template collection. Want to build more creative and eye-catching presentations? Then opt for a program with lots of effects, transitions, and animations so nothing gets in the way of your creativity.

And in case you are looking for software for a certain occasion, follow the links to check out more specialized articles, for instance, how to create wedding , funeral , and animated slideshows.

Visual Blast

I am not a tech maven, but I do capture lots of images in my travels. This app is an easy way to capture a bunch of pictures and video clips into a brief cinematic cohesive. There are many thematic options that are easy to audition. Very easy to swap out and in images in the editing process. Plus many music options to choose. Easily add titles and text, if you wish. The free version permits up to 20 images, including a five second video clip. Pay options will allow you to include more. Share the one minute creations to Facebook, friends or your website. A fun way to make yourself appear to be a video editing expert, in the most painfree way.

Pretty Good

I’ve used this app to make movie trailers, projects for school, and even memorabilias of my life. (Ex. parties, trips, etc.) It is really great for all those things, but what I don’t like about it is that you have to wait 30 seconds to preview your video if you don’t want to publish it yet. I know most people would say, “Why is that a problem? It’s only 30 seconds, so it’s not that long!” But, if you’re previewing it after every change you make to it, (like me,) you’re going to get annoyed fast. Another thing I don’t like about it is the music. They don’t have very good options to pick from, and if you want to use let’s say Havana as your song, or Star Wars music or something, you have to have it in iTunes which costs $$$. 🙁 Some people might already have the songs that they want to use in iTunes, good for them, but it might be hard to find the music you’re looking for in iTunes if you’re looking for this song from a video game that most people have never even heard of before (for example). I hope this review was helpful for you to decide wether or not you should get this app!

Great concept but very frustrating

I love the idea of making slideshows both for personal use, ie. special occasions and for Business use, displaying my art line. I took the time to make eight different slide shows each with 20 photos which is the maximum. I emailed some of them to potential clients and posted my personal ones to Facebook. Within 24 hours, all the videos were automatically deleted. I reached out to Animoto customer service and was told “it looks like you are using our legacy mobile app“. My question is, “why is this even available on the App Store NOW if it is old and useless?” I downloaded this version from the App Store on November 8, 2019 and my videos were deleted the next day on November 9. I spent quite a few hours making these slideshows just to have them disappear the next day. Frustrating! Before they were all deleted however, I really enjoyed the app. So much potential!

App-Based Presentation Software for Mac

There’s no place more convenient and friendly for Mac users than the default App Store. Explore some of the options without the hassle of going through the enormous app library we listed below:

#1 – Keynote for Mac

Top feature: Compatible with all Apple devices and has cross-platform sync.

Keynote for Mac is that popular face in your class that everyone knows, but not everyone is fully acquainted with.

Pre-installed as a complimentary on Mac computers, Keynote can be easily synced to iCloud and this compatibility makes transferring presentations between your Mac, iPad and iPhone incredibly simple.

If you are a pro Keynote presenter, you can also make your presentation come alive with illustrations and such with some doodling on the iPad. In other good news, Keynote is now exportable to PowerPoint, which allows for even more convenience and creativity.

#2 – TouchCast Pitch for Mac

Top feature: Make live or pre-recorded presentations.

TouchCast Pitch blesses us with many quintessential online meeting features, such as intelligent business templates, real-looking virtual sets and a personal teleprompter, which is super helpful to ensure we’re not leaving anything out.

And if you want to record your presentation without using a third-party recording app? TouchCast Pitch gives you the power to do that and polish it with their simple editing tool besides presenting live.

As with many other choices for presentation software for Mac, there are numerous templates to choose from. You can also create your presentation from scratch and show off your design skills.

You can make changes to your slides from anywhere, as this bit of kit is available to download straight from the App Store.

#3 – FlowVella for Mac

Top features: Mobile-friendly and Adobe Creative Cloud integrated with a multi-purpose template library.

If it’s a quick and rich presentation format that you’re looking for, then try FlowVella . Whether you’re presenting a pitch in front of investors or designing a lesson for the class, FlowVella lets you create embedded videos, links, galleries, PDFs and such at the touch of your fingertips. No need to pull out a laptop as everything is “drag-and-drop” simply on an iPad.

The interface for FlowVella on Mac isn’t quite perfect, some of the text is hard to read. But, it’s an intuitive system and if you’ve used any other kinds of software for presentations on Mac, you should be able to pick it up easily enough.

Also, thumbs up for their customer support. You can contact them via live chat or email and they’ll address your problems quick as lightning.

#4 – PowerPoint for Mac

Top features: Familiar interface and file formats are widely compatible.

PowerPoint really is a staple for presentations, but to use it on your Mac, you will need to own a license for a Mac-compatible version of the presentation software. These licenses can be a bit pricey, but that doesn’t seem to deter people, as it’s estimated that around 30 million PowerPoint presentations are created every day.

Now, there is an online version that you can access for free. The limited features will be enough for most simple presentations. But, if you put diversity and engagement to the front, you are better off using one of the many alternatives to PowerPoint software for Mac.

Web-Based Presentation Software for Mac

Although convenient, the app-based presentation software for Mac’s biggest weakness is they are only available to your own kind, which is a turn-off for any presenter who yearns for two-way interaction and lively engagement with their audience.

Our proposed solution is simple. Migrate your ordinary presentation to one of the best web-based presentation software for Mac below👇

#5 – AhaSlides

Top features: Interactive presentation slides all for free!

AhaSlides is a cloud-based interactive presentation software born from a group of tech guys who had experienced Death by PowerPoint firsthand

It gives you the means to create an interactive presentation with which your audience can respond to your questions using just their phones.

From live quiz options with leaderboards to brainstorming tools perfect for gathering opinions and adding Q&As , there’s something for every type of presentation.

For presenters in business, you could try adding sliding scales and polls that will contribute to real-time graphics when your audience interacts via their smartphones. If you’re exhibiting at a show or presenting in front of large numbers of people, this can be a great tool for gathering opinions and encouraging focus. It’s great for any type of iOS device and it’s web-based – so it’s great for other systems tools!

So, Is there a Canva app for Mac? Of course, Yes!! 👏

Top features: Diverse templates and copyright-free images.

Canva is free presentation software for Mac that you’re after that’s all about design, then there are few options better than Canva. With a huge array of elements and copyright-free imagery available, you can drag and drop them straight into your presentation.

Canva prides itself on ease of use, so even if you’re not the most creative person in the world, you’re still able to create your slides on the go with Canva’s drag-and-drop functionality. There’s also a paid version if you want to access more templates and elements created by professional designers from around the world.

Even though Canva has the option to convert your presentation to PDF or PowerPoint, we recommend you present it straight from its website since we’ve encountered text overflow/errors in the designs while doing that.

#7 – Zoho Show

Top features: Multi-platform integration, minimalist designs.

If you are a fan of minimalism, then Zoho Show is the place to go.

One of the key differences between Zoho Show and some of the other web-based presentation software is its compatibility features. With integration to sites like Giphy and Unsplash , Zoho makes adding graphics directly to your presentations easy.

It’s a great option if you’re already using some of the Zoho suites, and therefore probably most suitable as a free presentation option for businesses.

Still, like Canva, Zoho Show also encounters the same problem with its export to PDF/PowerPoint feature, which often results in blank or damaged files.

A screenshot of the Zoho Show interface

Top features: Template library and animated elements.

Prezi is a bit of a unique option in this list. It’s one of the top bits of linear presentation software out there, meaning you can see your presentation as a whole and head to different sections in fun and imaginative ways.

You can also present live and overlay your video on the slides just like TouchCast Pitch . Their huge template library is a great bonus for most presenters getting started, but you likely won’t be able to flex much creativity using Prezi’s free version.

#9 – Slidebean

Top features: Business templates and a pitch deck design service.

Slidebean is designed mostly for businesses, but its functionality would be suitable for other uses. They provide pitch deck templates that you can reuse and repurpose for your own business. The designs are smart, and it’s no real surprise that they also offer a pitch deck design service.

It’s simple to use and simple in its offerings. If you’re keeping things simple, try it out!

A screenshot of the Slidebean interface with pitch deck template

#10 – Adobe Express (Adobe Spark)

Top features: Stunning templates and team collaboration.

Adobe Express (formally Adobe Spark) is quite similar to Canva in its drag-and-drop feature to create graphics and other design elements. Being web-based, it is of course a compatible Mac presentation software and also offers integration with other Adobe Creative Suite programs which is useful if you create any elements with Photoshop or Illustrator.

However, with so many design assets going on, the website can run pretty slowly.

#11 – Powtoon

Top features: Animated slides and one-click animation

You might know Powtoon from their video animation creation feature, but do you know that they also offer a different, creative way to design a presentation? With Powtoon, you can easily create video presentations with no skills from thousands of custom designs.

For some first-time users, Powtoon can be a bit confusing because of its overburdened interface. You’ll need a bit of time to get used to it.

Powtoon's interface while creating a short video presentation.

#12 – Google Slides

Top features: Free, accessible and collaborative.

With many features basically the same as PowerPoint, you won’t have much trouble creating a presentation on Google Slides .

Since it’s web-based, you and your team can seamlessly collaborate, comment or make suggestions for others. If you want to get interactive, Google Slides’ plugin library also has different, fun third-party apps to integrate directly into the slides.

Just a warning – sometimes the plugin can make your presentation VERY laggy, so use with caution.

To gain better attention, along with interaction with the audience during gatherings, meetings and classes.

Can I convert Keynote to PowerPoint?

Movavi Slideshow Maker is a well-balanced tool for beginners and advanced users alike.

For instance, Movavi’s “Easy Mode” lets novices build a professional-looking slideshow in minutes without much of a learning curve. They just need to upload the necessary media files (image / images, videos, etc.) and then select slide transitions. Adding music is also straightforward, and Movavi provides guides in case any step isn’t 100% clear.

And for anyone who needs more advanced features, the “Full Feature” mode provides options like native recording, extra photo editing options, animated transitions, and even in-app video editing. Best of all, most of these features only require you to click and drag the desired elements.

After your slideshow is complete, Movavi makes it easy to save your presentation in any major file format (and some less common ones), and you can even adjust the file size – making it easier to put on a flash drive.

Key features:

  • 165+ visual effects and filters to apply to your presentations
  • 105+ transitions to use between slides
  • 100+ titles and stickers for further customization
  • Support for 14 different languages

OS: macOS, Windows

Microsoft PowerPoint is one of the oldest examples of slideshow maker software. It’s so well known that the phrase “I need to make a PowerPoint” is more common than “I need to make a slideshow” in the United States.

PowerPoint is a straightforward presentation tool that most people don’t use to its full potential. The software, in addition to standard slide making and templates, offers useful yet less-known features like self-running presentations and audio fading, bookmarking, and trimming.

Making a basic slideshow is as easy as choosing a theme, filling in the blanks, and adding media wherever you need it. Presenting visual elements like images and video as well as audio, text, and linking slides with smooth transitions with PowerPoint is no problem, and there are countless tutorials online if you want to take your PPT skills to the next level.

  • Easily embed YouTube videos
  • Merge shapes and edit image files within the application

At first glance, Prezi appears to be a response to slide-by-slide presentation tools such as Keynote and PowerPoint. While Prezi involves many of the same concepts as a standard slideshow application (offering templates, audio and video customization, etc.), the way information moves from section to section makes Prezi stand out from the crowd.

Each Prezi presentation is displayed on a large canvas. Instead of moving slide by slide, the presentation zooms in and out of sections and helps keep the user engaged when transitioning between topics. Additionally, you can bounce between audio and video with help from Prezi’s recording software, letting you create dynamic presentations that many people haven’t experienced before.

Prezi started out as solely a web app, but you can now download Prezi Next if you prefer (or require) an offline solution to building professional presentations.

Download Prezi

Doesn’t feel like a standard presentation, focuses on “the path” (transitions)

Can mix in audio and video into your canvas, and provides options to create talking-head videos

Lots of customizability

In-app collaboration is limited

Pricing is multi-tiered, may confuse users looking for a straightforward pricing model

6. Slidebean

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Entrepreneurs looking to pitch projects or startups

OS: Web application

Licensing: Subscription

File size: N/A

Our rating: 9/10

Slidebean was born out of a need for building aesthetic presentations without an actual graphic designer at hand. The product is specifically designed for creating professional pitch decks for businesses and marketers, and they even have a “Book Project” function if you want direct support using their tool.

This slideshow program for Mac isn’t ideal for putting together casual presentations. However if you’re looking to turn your slideshow into a pitch that lands you investors and grows your business, Slidebean is a service to investigate.

  • Templates targeting both pitch decks (for slideshows) and financial model templates (if your presentation involves running numbers, like from a business plan)

Go to Slidebean

Designed with professionals in mind (visuals are buttoned up)

Customer support services readily available for its users

Narrow in scope, built to pitch ideas and create formal presentations

Minor bugs reported (like uploading an image turns the entire slide 100% black)

7. CustomShow

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Businesses looking to set a standard for presentations across teams or the entire company

OS: Cloud-based application

CustomShow is enterprise software as a service built to help companies develop consistently branded presentations. After you’ve uploaded the requisite media files for your slideshow, you can further customize details like image shading, backgrounds for your video, and other visual effects.

From a technological standpoint, CustomShow also excels at connecting teams – providing the ability to simultaneously cast presentations to different devices. Such a feature is especially handy for the remote teams many of us find ourselves working on today. Plus with CustomShow’s mobile app and analytics tools, there’s plenty of features for enterprises serious about getting taking their business presentations to a new level.

  • Multicasting presentations
  • Analytics features for businesses

Ability to easily collaborate makes it great for large companies and remote teams

Not for the slideshow hobbyist / individual user

Has a bit of a learning curve

8. FlowVella

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Businesses presenting at events or conferences, users who want to incorporate a range of elements into their presentations

OS: OS X and iOS

Licensing: Free trial, subscription

FlowVella presentations sometimes look a bit like the page of a website because of all the interactive elements built into them. FlowVella allows the presenter to seamlessly move between image files, slides, videos, and other media dynamically – breaking from the linear nature of standard Mac slideshow apps.

The FlowVella app even provides a “kiosk mode” for iPads, easily letting users (like museum goers or tradeshow attendees) interact with a presentation you made without accidentally changing its elements.

  • Kiosk mode for tablet devices
  • Autoplay video content

Built for businesses and amateurs alike

Focusky is a feature-filled slideshow maker that operates in many ways like PowerPoint. However, it goes beyond PowerPoint in terms of customization, with hundreds of templates, dynamic transitions that zoom in and out (similar to Prezi), and plenty of design assets to play around with.

  • Robust transition features
  • Search Engine Optimization-friendly (can create text versions of presentations to index on Google)

Customization is a huge emphasis, with 5,000+ open-source vector icons and diagrams and 600+ templates for pro users

10. Preview in Finder

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Mac users looking to create a slideshow fast with few bells and whistles

OS: macOS (Big Sur)

Licensing: Free for Mac users

Our rating: 6.5/10

Most macOS users have opened up Preview before without realizing it because it comes preinstalled on your device. If you’ve ever opened an image on your Mac computer, Preview is the default image reader so it likely opened it for you (unless someone changed the settings). However, Preview can do other things as well – including making slideshow presentations.

Simply open the files you want (JPEGs, PNGs, PDFs, etc.) to begin. The fastest way to turn these into a presentation is to arrange them in any order you want, click “View”, and then “Slideshow”.

  • Embraces simplicity – sometimes we need to make a quick slideshow
  • Free for Mac users and native to macOS

Simple, on-the-fly concept

User familiarity

No customization except for how you arrange your image and text files

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Apple users making movie-like presentations

File size: 2.2 GB

Our rating: 7/10

While iMovie wasn’t created for slideshows, it still operates well in this secondary capacity. Created for Mac users who enjoy all Apple devices, iMovie has quickly evolved into a tool popular for developing more compelling slideshows and visual presentations.

With iMovie, your primary customization features for a slideshow are titles and transitions (elements that are useful in actual movies). However, you can still handle some of your image editing needs within the tool as well.

After your media files are imported into the app, you can add text, music, and other stylistic elements to build a dynamic experience for your audience. Try applying filters and playing around with iMovie’s green screen function to add some unique finishing touches to your presentation.

  • Presentations that emphasize video content

Strong video-editing capabilities

Integrates easily across all Apple operating systems

Not built with slideshows in mind

Minor image editing capabilities (cropping / color adjustments only)

12. Apple Photos

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Mac users looking for a native app that’s more customizable than Preview

OS: iOS, iPadOS, macOS

The Photos app on Mac might already be on your computer (or iPhone or iPad), but do you know how to use it to make a slideshow presentation?

Apple Photos lets you create a slideshow in two different ways. The first way is to build your presentation by simply selecting a few photos, a theme, and some music. The second way is to make an actual slideshow project with text overlays and transitions (in addition to your images and musical selection(s)). Both methods can help you quickly create an aesthetic, heavily-visual presentation.

  • In addition to slideshows, make cards, calendars, and photo journals with the images on your Mac or iCloud
  • Intelligent curation helps you group photos together based on their content

More dynamic than Preview

Decent photo slideshow editing capabilities

Lacking in the customization department

13. FotoMagico

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Both amateur and professional photographers looking to highlight their work

OS: macOS, iPadOS

Licensing: one-time purchase

File size: 371.5 MB

If you want to put down a little money and take your presentation game to another level, FotoMagico is an intriguing, feature-heavy option. FotoMagico, in addition to powerful image and video editing capabilities, also lets you tweak audio files and align specific musical moments with points in your presentation, making it great for people with a bit more technical know-how.

Similar to video-editing software, you can view each panel of your FotoMagico presentation at the bottom of the application. This timeline vantage makes it a simple matter to seamlessly edit and adjust minute details in your photographs and develop a presentation that meets your exact specifications.

  • Create slideshows in stunning 4K resolution

Bugs have been noted in some of their customer reviews

14. HyperEngine-AV

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Users interested in social media integration features

OS: Mac OS X

Licensing: Open-source

File size: 11 MB

HyperEngine-AV leans further into the video-creation side of presentations than it does slideshows, but it can still handle both tasks effectively.

If you’re looking to make short product videos, YouTube shorts, or video-heavy slideshow presentations, HyperEngine has the features and UI to simplify the job. And with HyperEngine’s "trackless" workspace giving you a bird’s eye view of your various media files, you’re able to edit and drag images, audio, video, and transitions wherever you want them with ease.

  • Robust audio editing functions

Download HyperEngine-AV

UI is fairly intuitive

Light program (fast and free to download)

Issues with exporting and even opening the app reported

No developer updates for a decade

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Mac users looking to burn their videos or presentations onto DVDs

OS: macOS (pre-Catalina)

Licensing: Free with Mac

File size: 36.12 MB

Although iDVD is an older piece of Apple software, it can still get the job done and works especially well for people looking to create hard copies of their creations (presentations, wedding video, or otherwise). If your goal is to make a widescreen presentation complete with audio and menu options, iDVD is worth a try.

Making a video-heavy slideshow on iDVD is fairly straightforward. Once you’ve added your title and selected a theme template, you can move around your video files and adjust them as necessary.

  • Helps you burn a DVD when using a Mac SuperDrive

Wide range of video-editing functions (can be used by professionals)

Not usable on Apple’s newest operating systems

Doesn’t support footage from digital cameras

16. 4K Slideshow Maker

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Users who want high-quality export options for their presentation

OS: macOS 10.13 and later, Linux, Windows

File size: 29.7 MB

4K Slideshow Maker states it all in its name: it’s a compact piece of software that helps you create and export a 4K slideshow (or in resolutions anywhere from the lower ends of the quality spectrum to Ultra 4K HD).

Quickly edit your images, mix in some music, and even import files directly from social media channels like Instagram into your slides with 4K Slideshow Maker. Done and ready to share your work? Move your finished presentation directly back to those social media channels (like Instagram and YouTube) to share with friends, family, and followers.

  • High-resolution support (great for rendering nature scenery in its full glory)

Download 4K Slideshow Maker

Learning curve isn’t too bad for amateurs

Lets you zoom in and out of images (the “Ken Burns effect”)

Currently supports 13 languages

Lacking in the customization features (templates, icons, etc)

17. LightMV

apple photo presentation software

Best for: Newer users who want to mix more video content into their presentations

OS: Android, Windows, iOS, macOS

File size: 5.8 MB

LightMV is a video-focused presentation app that lets you personalize your media files in various ways to ultimately create cohesive presentations. The app provides a variety of video templates to simplify things and lower the barrier for beginners, and if you go this route then you only need to import the desired media and add transitions and text.

  • Video templates created to help everything from capturing the joy of weddings to injecting energy into a business presentation
  • Cloud-based rendering for easy access across different Apple devices

Modern UI that’s easy for beginners to operate

Advanced features for video-editing professionals

Free 7-day trial version available

Freemium model means you can download the app but not your presentation

Summary: How to choose the best slideshow app for a Mac

Still wondering what’s the best slideshow program for you personally? Now that you’ve read about some of the top slideshow creators for Mac, you should have a better idea of what program best meets your needs. But just in case you’re on the fence between a few options, here are the main things to consider first.

Ease of use: Are you looking for something easy to use that’s a bit basic, or would you prefer a more complicated tool offering more customization? Choose software that lets you get the job done at your particular pace.

Features: The features you need in your presentations will help determine which software you end up choosing. Is audio and video critical, or do you only need compelling transitions for your linear slideshow?

Pricing / licensing: Some software is free, and others have freemium offerings. Other platforms cost a flat rate or a subscription fee, but they often make it worth your time. Think about whether investing in slideshow software is something that would bring you more value in return.

Guides & support: Some tools are written about extensively online (by the creators, users, and reviewers), while others are a bit harder to dig up details on. If you’re someone who often asks questions, consider choosing slideshow software that has support options at your disposal.

Device compatibility: Although all of the tools listed in this article are usable on Mac, you may want to consider choosing an app that also works on your smartphone. Being able to knock out a presentation (or even practice) while on the go is definitely a nice option for many of us.

Apple's new Photos app will utilize generative AI for image editing

Marko Zivkovic's Avatar

The new Clean Up feature will make removing objects significantly easier

apple photo presentation software

The logo promoting Tuesday's event on Apple's website suddenly turned interactive earlier on Monday, allowing users to erase some or all of the logo with their mouse. While this was initially believed to be a nod towards an improved Apple Pencil , it could also be in reference to an improved editing feature Apple plans to unleash later this year.

People familiar with Apple's next-gen operating systems have told AppleInsider that the iPad maker is internally testing an enhanced feature for its built-in Photos application that would make use of generative AI for photo editing. The feature is dubbed "Clean Up" in pre-release versions of Apple's macOS 15 , and is located inside the edit menu of a new version of the Photos application alongside existing options for adjustments, filters, and cropping.

The feature appears to replace Apple's Retouch tool available on macOS versions of the Photos app. Unlike the Retouch tool, however, the Clean Up feature is expected to offer improved editing capabilities and the option to remove larger objects within a photo.

With Clean Up, users will be able to select an area of a photo via a brush tool and remove specific objects from an image. In internal versions of the app, testers can also adjust the brush size to allow for easier removal of smaller or larger objects.

While the feature itself is being tested on Apple's next-generation operating systems, the company could also decide to preview or announce it early, as a way of marketing its new iPad models.

Back view of a dog with a polka-dot bandana looking up at an editing software interface with a 'Clean-Up' brush selected.

During the "Let Loose" iPad-centric event, Apple is expected to unveil two new models of the iPad Air and iPad Pro , the latter of which is rumored to feature the company's next-generation M4 chip. The M4 could introduce greater AI capabilities via an enhanced Neural Engine, with at the least, an increase in cores.

An earlier rumor claimed that there was a strong possibility of Apple's new iPad Pro receiving the M4 system-on-chip. Apple is also expected to market the new tablet an AI-enhanced device, after branding the M3 MacBook Air the best portable for AI.

While Apple has been working on its in-house large language model (LLM) for quite some time, it is unlikely that we will see any text-related AI features make their debut during the "Let Loose" event. The Clean Up feature, however, would provide a way of showcasing new iPad-related AI capabilities.

Should it choose to leverage the new Clean Up feature ahead of its annual developers conference in June, Apple would have the opportunity to promote its new iPads as AI-equipped devices. Giving users the option to remove an object from a photo with their Apple Pencil would be a good way of showcasing the practical benefits of artificial intelligence.

By demonstrating the real-world use cases for AI, the company likely aims to gain a leg up on existing third-party AI solutions, many of which only utilize artificial intelligence to offer short-term entertainment value in the form of chatbots.

Abstract blue and black swirling shapes with a gradient effect on a white background.

Although the feature provides some insight into what an AI-powered iPad might look like, it remains to be seen exactly when Apple will announce the Clean Up feature. Apple could instead opt to preview the feature at its Worldwide Developer's Conference ( WWDC ) in June.

Users of Adobe's Photoshop for iPad have had access to a similar feature called " Content-Aware Fill " since 2022. It allows users to remove objects from an image by leveraging generative AI, making it as though the objects were never there to begin with.

The "Content-Aware Fill" feature gradually evolved into " Generative Fill ," which offers additional functionality and is available across various Adobe products. In addition to Photoshop, the feature can be found in Adobe Express and Adobe Firefly.

With Generative Fill, users of Adobe's applications simply brush an area of a photo to remove objects of their choosing. Adobe's apps even offer the option to adjust brush size. Apple's new Clean Up feature bears some resemblance to Adobe's.

Clean Up is expected to make its debut alongside Apple's new operating systems in June, though there is always the possibility a mention could slip into Tuesday's iPad media event. Apple also has plans to upgrade Notes , Calculator , iOS 18a href="https://appleinsider.com/articles/24/04/30/apple-to-unveil-ai-enabled-safari-browser-alongside-new-operating-systems">Calendar, and Spotlight with iOS 18.

Android has had this feature already.  Interesting to see if this Apple one will be superior.

Access the website on the iPad, and use a finger to erase the logo.

paisleydisco said: Android has had this feature already.  Interesting to see if this Apple one will be superior. To be clear, iPhone has this ability too. It's not an operating system level thing. Apps can provide the feature and even Apple's Photos app for Mac has a basic repair tool already. The Clean Up feature will be a more advanced model based on generative image processing -- which I believe is only available via apps like Adobe's and is not a part of Android's photo editing tools.

Seems like Apple is finally getting off its keister and adding basic functions that should have been there for years.  At least all this AI activity in tech  is making Apple responsive again.

PRESS RELEASE

Featuring a new thin and light design, breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display, and outrageously fast M4 performance with powerful AI capabilities, the new iPad Pro takes a huge leap forward

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today unveiled the groundbreaking new iPad Pro in a stunningly thin and light design, taking portability and performance to the next level. Available in silver and space black finishes, the new iPad Pro comes in two sizes: an expansive 13-inch model and a super-portable 11-inch model. Both sizes feature the world’s most advanced display — a new breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display with state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology — providing a remarkable visual experience. The new iPad Pro is made possible with the new M4 chip, the next generation of Apple silicon, which delivers a huge leap in performance and capabilities. M4 features an entirely new display engine to enable the precision, color, and brightness of the Ultra Retina XDR display. With a new CPU, a next-generation GPU that builds upon the GPU architecture debuted on M3, and the most powerful Neural Engine yet, the new iPad Pro is an outrageously powerful device for artificial intelligence. The versatility and advanced capabilities of iPad Pro are also enhanced with all-new accessories. Apple Pencil Pro brings powerful new interactions that take the pencil experience even further, and a new thinner, lighter Magic Keyboard is packed with incredible features. The new iPad Pro, Apple Pencil Pro, and Magic Keyboard are available to order starting today, with availability in stores beginning Wednesday, May 15.

“iPad Pro empowers a broad set of pros and is perfect for anyone who wants the ultimate iPad experience — with its combination of the world’s best displays, extraordinary performance of our latest M-series chips, and advanced accessories — all in a portable design. Today, we’re taking it even further with the new, stunningly thin and light iPad Pro, our biggest update ever to iPad Pro,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With the breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display, the next-level performance of M4, incredible AI capabilities, and support for the all-new Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard, there’s no device like the new iPad Pro.”

The new iPad Pro — the thinnest Apple product ever — features a stunningly thin and light design, taking portability to a whole new level. The 11-inch model is just 5.3 mm thin, and the 13-inch model is even thinner at a striking 5.1 mm, while both models are just as strong as the previous design. The 11-inch model weighs less than a pound, and the 13-inch model is nearly a quarter pound lighter than its predecessor — allowing pro users to extend their workflows in new ways and in more places. The new iPad Pro is available in two gorgeous finishes — silver and space black — both with 100 percent recycled aluminum enclosures.

The new iPad Pro debuts the Ultra Retina XDR, the world’s most advanced display, to provide an even more remarkable visual experience. The Ultra Retina XDR display features state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology that uses two OLED panels and combines the light from both to provide phenomenal full-screen brightness. The new iPad Pro supports an incredible 1000 nits of full-screen brightness for SDR and HDR content, and 1600 nits peak for HDR. No other device of its kind delivers this level of extreme dynamic range. Tandem OLED technology enables sub-millisecond control over the color and luminance of each pixel, taking XDR precision further than ever. Specular highlights in photos and video appear even brighter, and there’s more detail in shadows and low light than ever before on iPad — all while delivering even more responsiveness to content in motion. For pro users working in high-end, color-managed workflows or challenging lighting conditions, a new nano-texture glass option comes to iPad Pro for the first time. 1 Nano-texture glass is precisely etched at a nanometer scale, maintaining image quality and contrast while scattering ambient light for reduced glare. With its breakthrough tandem OLED technology, extreme brightness, incredibly precise contrast, brilliant colors, and nano-texture glass option, the new Ultra Retina XDR display is the world’s most advanced display, giving iPad Pro customers an unparalleled viewing experience.

The incredibly thin and light design and game-changing display of the new iPad Pro is only possible with M4, the next generation of Apple silicon that delivers a huge leap in performance. M4 is built on second-generation 3-nanometer technology that’s even more power efficient, which is perfect for the design of the new iPad Pro. With an entirely new display engine, M4 introduces pioneering technology for the stunning precision, color, and brightness of the Ultra Retina XDR display. The new CPU offers up to four performance cores and now six efficiency cores, 2 with next-generation machine learning (ML) accelerators, to deliver up to 1.5x faster CPU performance over M2 in the previous-generation iPad Pro. 3 M4 builds on the GPU architecture of M3 — the 10-core GPU includes powerful features like Dynamic Caching, and hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing, which come to iPad for the first time. Coupled with higher unified memory bandwidth, pro rendering apps like Octane will see up to 4x faster performance than M2. 3 M4 also delivers tremendous gains and industry-leading performance per watt. Compared to M2, M4 can deliver the same performance using just half the power, and compared to the latest PC chip in a thin and light laptop, M4 can deliver the same performance using just a quarter of the power. 4 A new advanced Media Engine includes support for AV1 decode, providing more power-efficient playback of high-resolution video experiences from streaming services.

The new iPad Pro with M4 features Apple’s most powerful Neural Engine ever, capable of 38 trillion operations per second, which is 60x faster than Apple’s first Neural Engine in the A11 Bionic chip. Combined with next-generation ML accelerators in the CPU, a high-performance GPU, more memory bandwidth, and intelligent features and powerful developer frameworks in iPadOS, the Neural Engine makes the new iPad Pro an outrageously powerful device for AI. With iPad Pro with M4, users can perform AI-enabled tasks even faster, like easily isolate a subject from its background in 4K video with just a tap with Scene Removal Mask in Final Cut Pro. With this advanced level of performance, the Neural Engine in M4 is more powerful than any neural processing unit in any AI PC today.

iPadOS also has advanced frameworks like Core ML that make it easy for developers to tap into the Neural Engine to deliver phenomenal AI features locally, including running powerful diffusion and generative AI models, with great performance on device. iPad Pro also supports cloud-based solutions, enabling users to run powerful productivity and creative apps that tap into the power of AI, such as Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Adobe Firefly.

The updated camera system on the new iPad Pro delivers even more versatility, and with its rich audio from four studio-quality mics, users can shoot, edit, and share all on one device. The 12MP back camera captures vibrant Smart HDR images and video with even better color, improved textures, and detail in low light. It also now features a new adaptive True Tone flash that makes document scanning on the new iPad Pro better than ever. Using AI, the new iPad Pro automatically identifies documents right in the Camera app, and if a shadow is in the way, it instantly takes multiple photos with the new adaptive flash, stitching the scan together for a dramatically better scan.

On the front, the TrueDepth camera system moves to the landscape location on the new iPad Pro. The Ultra Wide 12MP camera with Center Stage makes the experience of video conferencing in landscape orientation even better, especially when iPad is attached to a Magic Keyboard or Smart Folio.

iPad Pro includes a high-performance USB-C connector with support for Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4, delivering fast wired connectivity — up to 40Gb/s. Thunderbolt supports an extensive ecosystem of high-performance accessories, including external displays like the Pro Display XDR at its full 6K resolution, and external storage, all connected using high-performance cables and docks. iPad Pro supports Wi-Fi 6E for super-fast Wi-Fi connections for pro workflows on the go. Wi-Fi + Cellular models with 5G allow users to access their files, communicate with colleagues, and back up their data in a snap while on the go. Cellular models of the new iPad Pro are activated with eSIM, a more secure alternative to a physical SIM card, allowing users to quickly connect and transfer their existing plans digitally, and store multiple cellular plans on a single device. Customers can easily get connected to wireless data plans on the new iPad Pro in over 190 countries and regions around the world without needing to get a physical SIM card from a local carrier.

Apple Pencil Pro features even more magical capabilities and powerful new interactions that take the Apple Pencil experience even further. A new sensor in the barrel can sense a user’s squeeze, bringing up a tool palette to quickly switch tools, line weights, and colors, all without interrupting the creative process. A custom haptic engine delivers a light tap that provides confirmation when users squeeze, use double-tap, or snap to a Smart Shape for a remarkably intuitive experience. A gyroscope allows users to roll Apple Pencil Pro for precise control of the tool they’re using. Rotating the barrel changes the orientation of shaped pen and brush tools, just like pen and paper. And with Apple Pencil hover, users can visualize the exact orientation of a tool before making a mark.

With these advanced features, Apple Pencil Pro allows users to bring their ideas to life in entirely new ways, and developers can also create their own custom interactions. Apple Pencil Pro brings support for Find My for the first time to Apple Pencil, helping users locate Apple Pencil Pro if misplaced. It pairs, charges, and is stored on the side of iPad Pro through a new magnetic interface. iPad Pro also supports Apple Pencil (USB-C), ideal for note taking, sketching, annotating, journaling, and more, at an incredible value.

Designed for the new iPad Pro, an all-new thinner and lighter Magic Keyboard makes it more portable and versatile than ever. The new Magic Keyboard opens to the magical floating design that customers love, and now includes a function row for access to features like screen brightness and volume controls. It also has a gorgeous aluminum palm rest and larger trackpad that’s even more responsive with haptic feedback, so the entire experience feels just like using a MacBook. The new Magic Keyboard attaches magnetically, and the Smart Connector immediately connects power and data without the need for Bluetooth. The machined aluminum hinge also includes a USB-C connector for charging. The new Magic Keyboard comes in two colors that perfectly complement the new iPad Pro: black with a space black aluminum palm rest, and white with a silver aluminum palm rest.

The new Smart Folio for iPad Pro attaches magnetically and now supports multiple viewing angles for greater flexibility. Available in black, white, and denim, it complements the colors of the new iPad Pro.

iPadOS is packed with features that push the boundaries of what’s possible on iPad. With Reference Mode, iPadOS can precisely match color requirements of the Ultra Retina XDR display for tasks in which accurate colors and consistent image quality are critical — including review and approve, color grading, and compositing. Stage Manager enables users to work with multiple overlapping windows in a single view, resize windows, tap to switch between apps, and more. With full external display support of up to 6K, iPad Pro users can also extend their workflow, as well as use the built-in camera on an external display for enhanced video conferencing. Users can take advantage of the powerful AI capabilities in iPad Pro and intelligent features in iPadOS, including Visual Look Up, Subject Lift, Live Text, or Live Captions and Personal Voice for accessibility.

With iPadOS 17 , users can customize the Lock Screen to make it more personal — taking advantage of the larger display on iPad — and interactive widgets take glanceable information further with the ability to get tasks done right in the moment with just a tap. The Notes app gives users new ways to organize, read, annotate, and collaborate on PDFs, and working with PDFs is also easier with AutoFill, which intelligently identifies and fills fields in forms.

Logic Pro for iPad 2 , available starting Monday, May 13, introduces incredible studio assistant features that augment the music-making process and provide artists help right when they need it — all while ensuring they maintain full creative control. These features include Session Players, which expand on popular Drummer capabilities in Logic to include a new Bass Player and Keyboard Player; ChromaGlow, to instantly add warmth to tracks; and Stem Splitter, to extract and work with individual parts of a single audio recording.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 , available later this spring, introduces Live Multicam, a new feature that transforms iPad into a mobile production studio, allowing users to view and control up to four connected iPhone and iPad devices wirelessly. 5 To support Live Multicam, an all-new capture app also comes to iPad and iPhone, Final Cut Camera, 6 giving users control over options like white balance, ISO, and shutter speed, along with monitoring tools like overexposure indicators and focus peaking. Final Cut Camera works as a standalone capture app or with Live Multicam. Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 also allows users to create or open projects from external storage, giving editors even more flexibility, and offers new content options. 7

The new iPad Pro is designed with the environment in mind, including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, and 100 percent recycled gold plating and tin soldering in multiple printed circuit boards. The new iPad Pro meets Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency, and is free of mercury, brominated flame retardants, and PVC. The packaging is 100 percent fiber-based, bringing Apple closer to its goal to remove plastic from all packaging by 2025.

Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to be carbon neutral across the entire manufacturing supply chain and life cycle of every product.

Troubling iOS 17.5 Bug Reportedly Resurfacing Old Deleted Photos

There are concerning reports on Reddit that Apple's latest iOS 17.5 update has introduced a bug that causes old photos that were deleted – in some cases years ago – to reappear in users' photo libraries.

iOS 17

"Same thing happened to me," replied another user. "Six photos from different times, all I have deleted. Some I had deleted in 2023." More reports have been trickling in overnight. One said: "I had a random photo from a concert taken on my Canon camera reappear in my phone library, and it showed up as if it was added today."

It's not clear what's happening, but given that some of the photos were apparently taken years ago, this cannot be an issue with recently deleted photos being undeleted. In Apple's Photos app, deleted photos and videos are kept in the Recently Deleted album for 30 days, so that users can recover or permanently remove them from all devices.

The reports could be down to an indexing bug, photo library corruption, or a syncing issue between local devices and iCloud Photos. Another possibility is that in attempting to fix a photo syncing bug that occurred in iOS 17.3 , Apple has inadvertently caused a new syncing issue to occur that may involve iCloud backups. Some users running iOS 17.5 developer beta 4 earlier reported similar experiences. We'll update this article when we learn more.

Ios 17.5—apple issues update now warning to all iphone users.

Apple has issued iOS 17.5 along with a warning to update your iPhone as soon as possible. That’s because iOS 17.5 fixes 15 security vulnerabilities, some of which are serious.

Apple remains tight-lipped about exactly what is fixed in iOS 17.5, to ensure as many people as possible are able to upgrade their iPhones before attackers can get hold of the details.

Among the important flaws patched in iOS 17.5 are an issue in the Kernel at the heart of the iPhone operating system tracked as CVE-2024-27818, which could allow an attacker to execute code. Another issue fixed in iOS 17.5, in AppleAVD, could see an adversary able to execute arbitrary code with Kernel privileges if a user downloads an app, Apple said on its support page .

Apple has issued iOS 17.5 along with a warning to update your iPhone as soon as possible.

05/14 update below. This article was first published on 05/13.

Another significant bug squashed in iOS 17.5 is a vulnerability in Voice Control that could allow an attacker to elevate privileges. Meanwhile, CVE-2024-27834 is a flaw in WebKit, the engine that underpins the Safari browser, which could allow an attacker to bypass Pointer Authentication.

An issue in MarketplaceKit tracked as CVE-2024-27852 and reported by researchers at security outfit Mysk could see a maliciously crafted webpage able to distribute a script that tracks users on other webpages.

Google Chrome Gets Third Emergency Update In A Week As Attacks Continue

Leak reveals an etf perfect storm could be heading toward bitcoin after 6 trillion fed inflation flip unleashed a crypto price boom, biden vs trump 2024 election polls biden losing support among key voting blocs.

Sean Wright, head of application security at Featurespace, calls the fixes issued in iOS 17.5 “a mixed bag.”

The worst is the kernel flaw, he says. “This could be chained with some of the other vulnerabilities to allow an attacker to gain full access to the device.”

POC for iOS 17.5 Kernel Flaw Will Soon Be Ready

One day after iOS 17.5 was issued, more is being unveiled about the security fixes. Notably, a security researcher Meysam who claims to have reported the kernel vulnerability has described in a post on X, formally Twitter, how he reported the flaw in iOS 17.4.1—the previous version of iOS 17. He plans to publish a proof of concept to demonstrate how it works “soon.”

While he is keen to point out that this is not an exploit—ie a direct method of exploiting the issue—it does make updating to iOS 17.5 especially crucial. The more attackers know about the flaw, the more likely it is they can use it in attacks.

Apple Issues iOS 16.7.8 To Fix Already-Exploited Issue

Alongside iOS 17.5, Apple has issued iOS 16.7.8, fixing two issues, one of which is already being used in real-life attacks. Tracked as CVE-2024-23296, the flaw in RTKit could enable an attacker with arbitrary kernel read and write capability to bypass kernel memory protections. “Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited,” Apple wrote on its support page .

The iOS 16.7.8 is available for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation.

Why You Should Update Now To iOS 17.5 Or iOS 16.7.8

It’s been a while since Apple’s last security update, iOS 17.4.1 —released in March—which fixed multiple serious security flaws. The update before that, iOS 17.4, was an emergency patch for issues being used in real life attacks.

The iOS 16.7.8 update is similar as it also patches already-exploited security issues. If you have an older device, updating to iOS 16.7.8 is a no-brainer, given that the flaw is being used in attacks.

While iOS 17.5 doesn’t cover any already-exploited flaws—at least that we know about—some of the issues are serious making it important you update your iPhone as soon as you can.

At the same time, the iOS 17.5 update contains cool new features, including unwanted tracker protection, as well as bug fixes.

The iOS 17.5 update is available for the iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and later, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

Two days after iOS 17.5 was released, some users are complaining about a Photos bug that is seeing deleted photos from years ago reappearing on people’s iPhones. This bug is certainly concerning, but it’s likely it will be fixed soon by Apple. I haven’t had any issues since updating to iOS 17.5.

If you care about your security, you will need to apply iOS 17.5 or iOS 16.7.8 manually, because Apple’s automatic updates can take a while to reach iPhones. It’s during this time that your device remains open to attack.

Wright says there is no need to panic, but ensure that you update “as soon as you can.”

So what are you waiting for? Go to your iPhone’s Settings > General > Software Update and download and install iOS 17.5 or iOS 16.7.8 now.

05/14 update: As well as important security fixes, the iOS 17.5 update contains a feature that helps stop unwanted tracking across platforms. Building on Apple’s iPhone feature to detect AirTags that might have been slipped into a bag or placed in a vehicle, the unwanted tracking tool in iOS 17.5 is a result of a partnership between Apple and its rival Google.

After releasing iOS 17.5, Apple has issued a press release to confirm the anti-tracking features are live. It describes how Apple and Google worked together to create an industry specification—Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers—for Bluetooth tracking devices. “This will help mitigate the misuse of devices designed to help keep track of belongings,” the statement reads, adding that Apple is implementing this capability in iOS 17.5, and Google in its Android 6.0+ devices.

The iOS 17.5 feature means users will get an “[Item] Found Moving With You” alert if an unknown Bluetooth tracking device is detected.

It works across platforms, with Bluetooth tag manufacturers including Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola and Pebblebee saying future tags will be compatible.

Among the benefits, it offers instructions and best practices for manufacturers, “should they choose to build unwanted tracking alert capabilities into their products,” according to Apple and Google.

The standard is ongoing: Apple and Google are working with the Internet Engineering Task Force via the Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers working group to develop the official standard.

Update 05/15: Article updated to include details about iOS 17.5 photos bug.
