8 Creative Ways to Use Instagram Slideshow Posts

From travel to beauty to fashion, Instagram slideshow posts have opened up a world of possibilities for brands to share fun and engaging content. From travel to beauty to fashion, Instagram slideshow posts have opened up a world of possibilities for brands to share fun and engaging content. Not only can slideshow posts add depth to your Instagram feed, but they give you way more flexibility to share content without spamming your followers!

From sneak peeks to product demos, here are 8 creative ways to use Instagram slideshow posts:

How to Create an Instagram Slideshow Post

The steps for assembling an Instagram slideshow post are pretty simple. You can start by tapping the “+” button at the bottom of your screen and selecting the “album” icon. From there, you can pick up to 10 photos or videos from your phone’s library.

Each photo or video can be edited separately with its own filter, or you can apply a filter to all the photos and videos you’ve selected. Also, you can only add one location and caption for your entire post.

You can also change the order of a photo or video by tap-and-holding the media item and dragging it to another spot. To remove a photo or video from your post, tap-and-hold and drag it to the “trash” icon at the top of the screen.

When someone likes or comments on any of your photos or videos in your slideshow post, it will appear below the cover image. This could be a little confusing at first glance as comments may appear to not have a link with the cover image!

In feed, you’ll see blue dots at the bottom of slideshow posts to let you know you can swipe to see more. In grid view, slideshow posts are recognized by a “multiple image” icon in the right-hand corner of the thumbnail.

1 . Create Before & After Sequences

The ability to combine up to 10 photos and videos into a single post makes Instagram slideshow posts the perfect outlet to share before-and-after sequences — which is ideal for users in the makeup, fashion, interior design, or fitness & health industries!

To create before-and-after sequence using Instagram slideshow posts, simply select your photos or videos in the correct order, write an engaging Instagram caption , and then post to Instagram. You can even share multiple before-and-after sequences in a single slideshow post if you want to highlight specific aspects of your before-and-after!

If you’re looking to drum up even more engagement, ask your followers to “spot the difference” between your photos!

2 . Tell a Complex Story

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what about 10 pictures? One of the biggest benefits of Instagram’s slideshow posts is that users can go even deeper with their visual storytelling!

Instagram slideshow posts give you the ability to really dive in and tell a complex or emotional story using a mix of photos and videos. Rather than posting a long caption to provide context and backstory, you can let your visuals tell the story for you.

Check out how @the.book.report  experiments with storytelling using Instagram slideshow posts:

3 . Show-Off Your Events or Take Followers Behind-the-Scenes

Have you ever scrolled through your feed only to see that several or more photos were posted from the same event? Not only is this kind of behavior on Instagram considered spammy, but posting multiple times in a row can cause you to get penalized by the Instagram algorithm, meaning your posts will be shown to fewer people!

Instagram slideshow posts have totally changed this. The ability to share multiple photos and videos in a single post gives users more flexibility to share relevant content without spamming their feeds.

You can also use slideshow posts to take your followers behind-the-scenes.

4 . Share a Surprise Reveal

Everyone loves a good surprise reveal, and Instagram slideshow posts are an exceptionally great place to share them!

If you have a big release coming up, you can use a slideshow post to tease your audience by giving them a sneak peek of what’s to come. For example, by touring your photoset, posting close-up shots, or even posting a riddle. You can be as creative as you like in designing your big surprise reveal! Of course, make sure that your last post is a cliffhanger so that your followers come back to see the final release.

5 . Showcase Your Products

For businesses in the makeup or fashion industry, Instagram slideshow posts provide a great opportunity to showcase your products in an authentic way. For example, beauty brands can post multiple images of product swatches on different skin tones, while fashion brands can show how an outfit looks on different body types.

If you’re releasing several products at once, like a spring clothing line, slideshow posts are also super handy for letting your followers browse your entire collection.

You can also use Instagram slideshow posts to share customer reviews of your products. Check out how Sweet Stuff Life did this in their first Instagram slideshow post:

6 . Demos and Tutorials

Another creative way to use the Instagram slideshow posts is to walk your followers through a demo or tutorial. A DIY blogger could feature how-to segments, as well as shopping lists, pro tips, and images of the finished product. Likewise, food bloggers could share visual guides for their recipes, and fashion bloggers could detail their “looks of the day.”

Urban Decay is a great example of this. Check out how they use Instagram slideshow posts to show their followers how easy it is to apply their full spectrum eyeshadow palette.

Featuring a demo or tutorial in your slideshow post is a great way to engage with your followers while encouraging them to keep swiping!

7 . Host a Contest or Giveaway

Hosting an Instagram contest is one of the best ways to get new followers , and slideshow posts are a great place to feature your contest!

For example, a fashion brand could post up to 10 different images of influencers or fans wearing the same shoe, but styled in different ways. And in the caption, they could poll their audience on who wore it best, offering prizes and incentives for participation!

You could also use an Instagram slideshow post to highlight each of the prizes that you’re giving away, explain your rules, and then demonstrate how users can enter your contests. With the last step, make sure to ask your audience to tag at least one friend in the comments to enter — this is key to your growth!

8 . Create a Roundup

Rather than picking one image to market one thing, users can now share lists of of their “favourite things” (think Buzzfeed). If you’re a business, you can even optimize your slideshow posts to showcase your most popular products or services.

Regardless of your industry, Instagram slideshow posts are great for sharing roundups and countdown-type content, for example, your “Top 10 Favorite Mediterranean Destinations.” Plus, if you’re keen, you can turn that slideshow post into a longer blog post on your website, or vice versa!

Whether you’re a big retailer with thousands of followers or a food blogger working out of your home kitchen, there are a ton of great ways to use Instagram slideshow posts to market your business!

Best Practices for Designing Engaging Social Media Slides in PowerPoint

  • Consistent branding: Ensure your social media slides align with your overall presentation design and brand guidelines, creating a cohesive visual experience for your audience.
  • Legible font sizes and colors: Use font sizes and colors that are easily readable, even from a distance, ensuring your audience can effortlessly follow the content on your social media slides.
  • Consider visual hierarchy: Arrange your social media content in a logical order, prioritizing key information and keeping the design visually balanced.
  • Engaging visuals: Incorporate eye-catching images, videos, and infographics into your social media slides to capture your audience’s attention and support your key messages.

Using Social Media Data in PowerPoint: Strategies for Visualizing Analytics

Integrating social media data into your PowerPoint presentations can provide valuable insights and add credibility to your content. Here are some strategies for visualizing social media analytics in PowerPoint:

  • Data-driven charts and graphs: Use visual elements such as bar charts, line graphs, and pie charts to display social media metrics such as follower growth, engagement rates, or post reach.
  • Heatmaps and word clouds: Visualize sentiment analysis or trending topics using heatmaps or word clouds to make complex social media data more digestible and visually appealing.
  • Comparison tables: Compare performance metrics of different social media platforms, campaigns, or time periods using tables to showcase key findings and trends.

By effectively visualizing social media data in your PowerPoint presentations, you can present compelling insights and make data-driven decisions that drive social media success.

Exploring Advanced Techniques: Embedding YouTube Videos Within Your PowerPoint Presentation

How to create custom social media graphics in PowerPoint

  • Written by: Olivia Kippax Jones

presentation feed instagram

Engaging social media graphics are a key part of any digital strategy, but social media is a beast that always needs feeding! Online platforms constantly demand new, eye-catching content to keep your products or services at the forefront of your customers’ attention. If you’re a small business or freelancer, keeping on top of social media postings can seem like an impossible task. But you don’t need a crack team of graphic designers for every Instagram post. You have everything you need with PowerPoint. This article will show you how to make custom social media graphics in PowerPoint by leveraging some of our favorite PowerPoint tools and our free productivity and design add in BrightSlide.

Why use PowerPoint? There’s plenty of online content creation software out there and options like Canva are popular due to their pre-built components which help users develop content quickly. However, there are a few downsides to many of these tools:

  • You run the risk of your content looking like everyone else’s.
  • The animation options tend to be limited.
  • Lots of features, including branding options (like custom color palettes), are often only available with premium membership.

The likelihood is you already have PowerPoint and have some experience in using it. Not having to start learning a new program from scratch means you can start creating custom social media graphics straight away and don’t have to worry about watermarks or poor-quality exports from free versions of an unfamiliar software.

Today, I’ll be walking you through how to create an Instagram post in PowerPoint. Let’s get started!

Choose post size

Though PowerPoint is best known for presentations, you can actually set the slide size to anything you want. To do this, go to the Design tab, navigate to Slide Size and select Custom Slide Size from the drop-down menu. Here you can choose from pre-set slide sizes or set your own.

Screenshot of PowerPoint showing where to find the Custom Slide Size menu so your slide is the right size for a social media graphic.

Instagram posts can be square (1:1 ratio), portrait (4:5 ratio), or landscape (1.9:1 ratio). As a portrait image or video takes up the most space on the screen it’s a good option for engaging causal scrollers. Bear in mind that you want your slide to be nice and big, so the quality is high when you export it as an image, video or GIF. For this project we’ve chosen 40cm x 50cm. This post is a great reference for the ideal images sizes for popular social media sites .

Set up your slide

Before you start placing objects on your slide, you need to set yourself up for success. One part of this is setting up a grid to help you design well proportioned, balanced slides. Read more about the importance of grid and guides . You can create guides in PowerPoint by right clicking on your slide and clicking Grid and Guides then Guides . You can add individual guide lines using the same drop-down menu.

Screenshot of PowerPoint showing how to turn the Guides on.

Positioning these guides, however, can be tricky as there is no mathematical way to make sure they are in the right place. The easiest way to create accurate guides is to download our free PowerPoint design and productivity add-in BrightSlide . Using its Guides tool, select Create Guides , choose the number of columns and rows you want, and watch the guidelines change in real time – BrightSlide does all the calculation for you!

You also need to set your theme colors to make sure your post fits with your brand’s visual identity. To set the theme colors in PowerPoint head to the Design tab and under the Variants section, select Colors , then Customize Colors.

Screenshot of powerpoint showing where to find the Customize Colors menu so you can set up colours for your custom social media graphic

Click on one of the colors and select More Colors . You can choose from the color wheel or input your own RGB values. You can then name your new theme colors. Click here for a more detailed look at theme colors.

Screenshot of PowerPoint showing how to add custom colors to new theme.

Before moving on to the next step, don’t forget to check you’re using the right font for your brand! We’ve got a guide to advanced typography if you’re interested in learning more about make your letters look their best!

Prepare your images

Eye-catching imagery is important for grabbing users’ attention with your social media graphics. If you don’t have lots of high quality photography of your own, consider using stock photography sites like iStock and Shutterstock or discover the wonders of free photography sites like Unsplash . We have a great list of other free design resources here .

Once you’ve got hold of some great imagery there are a few ways you can edit it in PowerPoint.

Crop to shape

You can crop your images to any shape in PowerPoint – including a custom shape if you want to get creative. To crop to shape, go to the Picture Format tab and under the Crop dropdown menu select Crop to Shape and then select the shape you want to use.

To get a more precise crop, insert your image and then insert the shape you want to use by going to Insert>Shapes . Place the shape over the area of the picture you want to keep, select the image, then the shape and use the Intersect Boolean tool to cut out that section. You can copy and paste the image multiple times to cut out various sections. See more on custom image cropping .

screenshot of powerpoint showing where to find the Intersect Boolean tool.

Remove background

If you just want to use the main section of an image you can remove the background. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is using the Remove background tool in PowerPoint; you can find this under the Picture Format tab. Unfortunately, the tool is a bit hit and miss. If your image has a person in it then remove.bg is a great alternative background remover you can use for free.

screenshot of the website remove.bg showing how it can remove a background form an image with a person in.

You could also use the PowerPoint Freeform Shape tool, and the Boolean crop technique described above to cut out a larger section of your image. This is a little more time consuming but can generate great results.

Custom social media graphic layout

Now we can get on with creating the content, adding in text and shapes to make an eye-catching design. Remember to use your guide lines to place your content with care. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the social media graphics your favorite brands post or browse design inspiration sites like Behance . Because social media graphics are typically viewed on a phone screen, you want to keep it simple without too much text to make sure you get your message across.

Our example uses simple PowerPoint shapes and the Boolean tools to create custom shapes – clouds. Simply place the shapes on your slide, overlapping slightly, select them, then use the Union Boolean tool to create one new shape.

Screenshot of powerpoint showing where to find the Union Boolean tool

You can then change the fill and outline color of your new shape. We’ve used a slight gradient to create fluffy clouds.

Export social media graphic as image or animate

At this point you can choose to save the slide as an image. Go to File > Save As then change the file type to JPG . This will save each slide as a separate image.

Alternatively, you can add some animation flourishes to help your post stand out from the crowd. When you’re animating you want to keep it simple (nobody needs to see the boomerang animation…ever!), animations like Fade , Fly In and Zoom can all look great. Alternatively, BrightSlide has a built-in animation library you can pull animation combinations from to add a little professional polish to your slide. Go to the BrightSlide tab then select My Animations .

Screenshot of PowerPoint showing where to find the BrightSlide Animation Library.

Export social media graphic as video or GIF

If you’ve taken the animation route, then the final step is to export your custom social media graphic. First, record your slide to time out the animations. Go to the Slideshow tab and hit Record Slide Show .

Screenshot of powerpoint showing where to find the Record from Current Slide feature to record your custom social media graphic

Once you’re happy with the timings, click File > Export > Export as Video or Create Animated GIF.

Instagram is a social media application on which you can capture images, edit them using preset filters, and share them with your followers. A number of people use Instagram: friends, family, celebrities, bloggers - all of them share images that are either relevant to their platform, or to just provide a glimpse of their day to day goings. Instagram now has a video-sharing capability, which means you can also upload your multiple- captured moments at once via slideshow maker.

  • Change the volume of your audio by selecting the track.

Step 9 View your slideshow.

  • Make sure that your video is no more than 15 seconds long, or else Instagram will cut it.
  • Trim the video to lessen its length if it’s more than 15 seconds long.

  • Choose your saved slideshow from your folder.

Hello, I am trying to copy and past the template into one of my assignments on google slides but the formatting does not come up like yours. It is all stretched out to fit the standard formatting. Do you know how to fix it?

So sorry for the delay in reply. Did you figure it out? This template is not a standard size, so instead of copy and paste, you should make your own copy of the template and just build what you need from there. Feel free to contact me if you are still having trouble.

My kids are going to love working with this. Thank you so much!

This is amazing. Thank you so much!

Is there a way to add a comments section?

I could probably work something out for that if needed. Connect with me on Twitter or by using the contact form by clicking the little @ icon next to the social media icons at the top right of the webpage.

It's awesome!

Thanks for this!

Hi! When making the profile picture into a circle, are you using the "mask" tool in Google slides or another software?

Thank you so much for this. It is very helpful. Thank you for the generosity.

Hi! Thank you so much for this template! I was wondering if you knew what fonts you used for the template? Thank you again!

There are saints...and then there are tech saints. Your generosity kept me from crying, helped me be a better teacher, and makes me a more generous person too!

Thank you so much for sharing. You make life better for people :)

this is nice

Thank you!! My students loved this and the parents appreciate the safety of using Slides vs. actually posting on IG!

This is perfect! Having my freshmen English classes create posts and profile for characters in a story we just read. I used to do a facebook template, but the version I had didn't open on most student's devices, and I've found that they're not as into facebook anymore, anyway. I love how this allows the student to include a lot of information, without the workitself being overwhelming. Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks!! I needed this for a school assignment and it really helped!!

This is so wonderful. I am not tech savvy enough to create my own version of this. I was going to have my students create their own fake accounts on their devices, but this will make it so much better. Thank you for sharing.

How to Create an Engaging Instagram Story/Reels Slideshows in Just Minutes

Instagram Slideshows are a fun and creative way to share multiple photos or videos in a single post on Instagram. Instead of posting individual photos or videos, you can group them in a single post, and your followers can swipe through them like a slideshow.

The best part about Instagram Slideshows is that it’s an excellent way to share memories or experiences in a visually appealing and engaging way.

Want to get in on the fun? Great! In this blog, we’ll guide you through the steps to creating engaging and captivating Instagram reels and story slideshows on the Instagram app.

What is the Difference Between a Carousel and a Slideshow?

On Instagram, a carousel post allows you to include multiple photos or videos in a single post, which users can swipe through horizontally.

A slideshow, on the other hand, is a feature within Instagram Stories that allows you to add multiple photos or videos to a single story. Each slide can have its text, stickers, and other creative elements, but they are not part of your profile feed and will disappear after 24 hours.

How to Make a Slideshow on Instagram

Creating a slideshow is easy and can be done right from the Instagram app.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you make Instagram Slideshows for Instagram Reels and Stories.

How to Make a Slideshow Story for Instagram

Open the Instagram app and click the “+” sign on your profile picture (top left-hand corner of your screen.)

Tap on the “Select” feature to choose up to 10 photos or videos. It’s an icon with two overlapping squares. Better still, you can take new ones using the Instagram camera. Done? Tap on the arrow located at the bottom right corner.

Once you’ve selected your photos or videos, you can edit them by tapping on each one. You can add stickers, text, mentions, or doodles to each photo or video. Once you’re done, Tap on the arrow at the bottom right corner.

You can share your slideshow by tapping on “Your Story” or sharing it with your followers through the Direct Message option.

How to Make a Slideshow Reel for Instagram

Open the Instagram app and tap the “+” sign at the bottom center of your screen. This will take you to the camera screen, where you can tap on “Reel.”

Next, take your photo or video with the Instagram camera or tap on the square icon located at the bottom left corner of your screen to access your gallery.

Now, select up to 10 photos or videos you want in your Instagram Story slideshow by tapping the overlapping squares icon. Pick them in the order that you want them to appear in your Reel. Tap on the arrow located at the bottom right corner.

Add music, filters, voiceovers, sound effects, special effects, aesthetics, stickers, and text. Tap on the edit button at the bottom of the screen to reorder your photos or videos and adjust/replace the audio.

Once you are satisfied with your Instagram Slideshow, tap on the bottom right arrow button to proceed. You can add a caption and hashtags, and tag other users. Then, click on “Share” to publish your Reel.

How to Post a Slideshow to Instagram & What People Think of the Latest Update

The Brandwatch React team reports on the reception of the latest Instagram update and shows you how to post a slideshow to Instagram.

Instagram’s latest update means users can now share multiple photos and videos in one post, but how has that gone down?

Post a Slideshow to Instagram

While this kind of content has been available to brands for a while  in the form of carousel ads, regular users are now able to try it out for the first time.

The React team wanted to find out what people thought of the new update, so took to the social data. We found hundreds of people talking about it, and have included the highlights from their conversations as well as a peppering of commentary from the Brandwatch marketing team throughout this article.

First, here’s how to post a slideshow to Instagram

Here’s how you do it:

  • Hit the plus button like you usually would to add a photo or video
  • In the photo window look out for the “select multiple” button
  • Choose up to 10 photos or videos to share with your followers
  • Edit the order and add filters to each photo/apply a filter to the whole group
  • Write a caption, tag people, add a location – all that jazz
  • You’re done!

What do people think so far?

The update offers answers to a number of user gripes with the platform. Where it was previously a place for only the best, people are now able to post a selection of images without having to worry so much about having just one quality image. In fact, Instagram’s explanation that “you no longer have to choose the single best photo or video from an experience you want to remember” was one of the trending phrases in the data surrounding the new update.

There were multiple comparisons between the Stories and slideshow features in the data. Where Instagram Stories are available outside of the feed, slideshows mean users can quickly flick through the post and then move on as opposed to clicking in and out of individual stories.

Wired’s positive review of the update was amongst the top-shared links, with David Pearce claiming “It’s going to make Instagram even more fun to browse.”

Post a Slideshow to Instagram

The article contains a warning. As social media platforms battle to become the place people go for everything, “Given its user base, Instagram is probably smart to give people everything they want so they’ll never leave. Yet it seems fair to wonder if, in doing so, Instagram might lose what made it so wonderful in the first place.” Given the general reviews of this update seem positive so far, the potentially negative effects remain to be seen.

Great uses of slideshows so far

Now it’s been rolled out properly, the new capabilities are an exciting prospect for marketers. It’s going to start with a scramble.

“Its a larger canvas for brands to market on with new possibilities for creativity. Like with all new tech and features, the strategy will come later. Brands will rush to explore what’s possible and once someone establishes what works others will copy.”

– Kristian Bannister, Digital Strategist at Brandwatch

There’s so much to experiment with. Here’s some of the fun and speculation we’ve seen so far.

Storytelling

Multiple photos and videos mean a longer, fuller story can be told in one post.

Check out this post from NBA as an example.

View this post on Instagram Along with celebrating Greatness on the floor, #NBAAllStar Weekend gave us the opportunity to give back to the community through @nbacares, @jrnba, @specialolympics & @makeawishamerica! (swipe left 👈🏼) A post shared by NBA (@nba) on Feb 22, 2017 at 3:44pm PST

Media outlets are likely to lead the way with this – take a look at what Vanity Fair have been up to.

View this post on Instagram What did the Oscars look like 20 years ago? Slide through to find out. (Link in bio for more.) #TBT A post shared by Vanity Fair (@vanityfair) on Feb 23, 2017 at 1:48pm PST

Here’s another example of powerful storytelling from @CNN .

View this post on Instagram Swipe to see more photos ➡️ Donald Trump was days away from taking the oath of office when Abdalla Ramadhan Munye and Habibo Mohamed landed in the United States. The Somali refugees had seven children in tow — two daughters, three sons and a niece and nephew they'd been raising for a decade. • But one of their daughters, Batulo, was told she would have to travel a few days later. Now, she is stuck more than 8,000 miles away. • The family was just settling into their new apartment in the Atlanta suburb of Clarkston when Trump went to the Pentagon and signed his travel ban. Now brands can target multiple personas with a single post, showing off different aspects of their product that will appeal to different segments of their following without spamming people.

– Emma Shanahan, Community Manager at Brandwatch

Multiple images mean brands can share a range of products or angles in a single post, which could do wonders for engagement.

From recipes to instruction manuals, slideshows offer a great way to show off how to make or use something.

View this post on Instagram Key Lime Pie With Toasted Marshmallow Meringue INGREDIENTS 10 graham crackers 7 tablespoons butter, melted ¼ cup brown sugar 6 eggs, separated Lime zest 1 14-ounce can condensed milk ½ pint vanilla ice cream ½ cup key lime juice *(Regular lime juice works just fine if key lime juice is unavailable)* 1 tablespoon light corn syrup 1 cup sugar PREPARATION Preheat oven to 350˚F/180˚C. Place graham crackers in plastic bag and crush them into a fine crumb using a rolling pin. Alternatively, a food processor can be used to crush the crackers. Pour the graham cracker crumbs into a medium bowl with the melted butter and brown sugar. Mix until the crumbs take on the character of a coarse, wet sand. Pour the crumbs into a 9-inch pie dish. Press the crumb firmly into the dish, making sure to coat the bottom and sides of the dish evenly. Once the crust has been formed, place the pie dish into the refrigerator to firm up. Separate 6 eggs. Working with the yolks (reserve the whites for later), add the zest of 1 lime and whisk, either by hand or with an electric mixer, for 2 minutes. Add the can of condensed milk and continue to whisk until mixture is smooth and has a pale yellow color. Add in the ice cream and key lime juice. Continue to whisk for an additional 3-5 minutes. The filling should be smooth and airy when finished. Pour the filling mixture into the refrigerated graham cracker crust and bake at 350˚F/180˚C for 18-20 minutes, or until the edges of the crust begin to brown and the filling no longer jiggles when disturbed. While the pie is baking, combine the reserved egg whites with corn syrup and about ¼ cup of the sugar and begin to whisk vigorously to form the meringue. Continue to add the sugar in small increments until all of it is incorporated. Continue to whisk until mixture thickens and stiff peaks form, about 7-10 minutes. Top the baked pie with the meringue. Using a rubber spatula, spread the meringue evenly over the top of the pie, making sure to cover all the visible areas of filling. Once covered, use the tip of the spatula to shape the meringue forming small peaks a valleys in the topping. Bake at 350˚/180˚C for an additional 7-10 minutes to to A post shared by Tasty (@buzzfeedtasty) on Feb 23, 2017 at 2:52pm PST

Other benefits

Longer videos.

Another plus-point is the ability to upload lengthier videos. Adding each 1 minute clip to a slideshow means up to 10 minutes of ongoing video is possible in a single post.

Influencers

According to HollywoodBranded.com , Kim Kardashian charges around $250k for a branded Instagram post. Will being able to post multiple images mean rates are reduced if your product is featured on the 9th or 10th swipe? Perhaps a Kardashian endorsement will become more affordable (though they might not be all they cracked up to be ).

With thanks to the Brandwatch marketing kids of Instagram for their thoughts.

Olsen, Oakridge, Broward Estates are among schools to close in new proposed plan

Superintendent howard hepburn holds town halls until may 9.

Sanela Sabovic , Reporter

Andrea Torres , Digital Journalist

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The first of seven town hall meetings with the Broward County Public Schools superintendent was on Monday in Hollywood.

Superintendent Howard Hepburn said he received “a lot“ of feedback from the community at Hollywood Hills High School.

Hepburn talked about the possibility of closing Olsen Middle in Dania Beach, Oakridge Elementary in Hollywood, and Broward Estates Elementary in Lauderhill.

“We can come up with the best options,” Hepburn said. “It is not going to make everybody happy. These are tough decisions that affect families.”

The proposed plan did not sit well with Julie Burger Shannon. She works as an exceptional student education specialist at Oakridge Elementary School.

“We are extremely shocked and also disappointed,” the teacher said. “We were never included in any preliminary conversations.”

Several other schools identified in five zones would be combined, have a boundary adjustment, or be repurposed to expand community services.

The district also presented a second proposal known as the “total district realignment plan,” which Hepburn opposes. It would match the number of seats per student prompting 42 schools to close.

The goal remains to eliminate excess seat capacity districtwide. One of the proposals would redraw all school boundaries and eliminate magnet programs.

School board members are set to vote on a final plan on June 18. The process is set to take years and there won’t be any changes during the 2024-25 school year.

“I want to make sure I support a plan that looks at all of Broward,” said Daniel P. Foganholi, the school board member representing District 5.

NEXT 6 TOWN HALL MEETINGS

The next meeting with Hepburn will be in District 4 at 6 p.m., at J.P. Taravella High School, 10600 Riverside Drive, in Coral Springs.

The meeting at District 5 is at 6 p.m., on May 1, at Dillard High 6-12, at 2501 NW 11 St., in Fort Lauderdale. The meeting at District 3 is at 6 p.m., on May 6, at Fort Lauderdale High School, at 1600 NE 4 Ave.

The meeting at District 2 is at 6 p.m., on May 7, at Charles W. Flanagan High School at 12800 Taft St., in Pembroke Pines.

The meeting at District 6 is at 6 p.m., on May 8, at Western High School, at 1200 SW 136 Ave., in Davie. The meeting at District 7 is at 6 p.m., on May 9, at Deerfield Beach High School, at 910 Buck Pride Way.

PRESENTATION SUMMARY

According to a presentation Broward County Public Schools released on Monday night , the district plans to close some schools due to under-enrollment.

Barbra Streisand Commented On Melissa McCarthy’s Instagram Post Asking If She’s Using Ozempic, And People Are Very Confused

“She probably thought it was a DM lol.”

Ellen Durney

BuzzFeed Staff

Barbra Streisand has sparked confusion online after she appeared to leave a very personal comment on Melissa McCarthy ’s latest Instagram post.

So, on Sunday, Melissa attended the Center Theatre Group’s annual gala in LA, dressed to the nines in a stunning mint-colored ensemble.

Melissa McCarthy and Adam Shankman entering the gala

Melissa walked the red carpet with director Adam Shankman, and as you often do after a fun night out, the actor took to Instagram the next day to share a few photographs of her and her date.

“Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman,” she wrote in the post’s caption . “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage 💃🏻💚🩷”

And as many of Melissa’s followers flooded the comments section with praise for her stylish look, the one and only Barbra Streisand arrived with other thoughts on her mind.

“Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” a comment from Barbra’s official Instagram account read beneath the post.

For context, Melissa has talked openly about experiencing weight fluctuations for many years. However, she has not publicly discussed using Ozempic — a drug used to help lower blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes, which has seen a recent surge in celebrities using it for weight-loss purposes.

Even though Melissa and Barbra are known to be friendly in real life , it’s no surprise that the comment still shocked fans — with many wondering whether it was posted accidentally.

Once screenshots of the comment started circulating on X, some users speculated that the 82-year-old icon may have thought she was replying to Melissa’s post privately.

“She probably thought it was a DM lol,” one user replied to a screenshot of the comment with over 15,000 likes.

“DOES SHE NOT KNOW EVERYONE CAN SEE HER COMMENTS???” asked someone else .

And while plenty of people joked that the comment was giving the same harmless energy as an auntie on Facebook, others were more critical of the move — with one user describing it as “ strange ” and “ disrespectful ” to pose a question about someone’s body so publicly.

Before long, Barbra’s comment was seemingly deleted. However, that hasn’t stopped the screenshots from gaining a ton of attention online — which is ironic, given that Barbra previously inspired a legal term called the Streisand Effect , used to describe instances where high-profile people unintentionally draw more attention to information by trying to wipe it from the public domain.

“Serving the Streisand Effect in real time,” one person wrote on X , acknowledging the coincidence of it all.

BuzzFeed has reached out to a representative for Barbra to clarify the situation, and we’ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything.

The world’s electric car fleet continues to grow strongly, with 2024 sales set to reach 17 million

News 23 April 2024

Photo shows a line of yellow electric cars plugged in to charging points

Despite near-term challenges in some markets, based on today's policy settings, almost 1 in 3 cars on the roads in China by 2030 is set to be electric, and almost 1 in 5 in both United States and European Union

More than one in five cars sold worldwide this year is expected to be electric, with surging demand projected over the next decade set to remake the global auto industry and significantly reduce oil consumption for road transport, according to the new edition of the IEA’s annual Global EV Outlook .

The latest Outlook , published today, finds that global electric car sales are set to remain robust in 2024, reaching around 17 million by the end of the year. In the first quarter, sales grew by about 25% compared with the same period in 2023 – similar to the growth rate seen in the same period a year earlier, but from a larger base. The number of electric cars sold globally in the first three months of this year is roughly equivalent to the number sold in all of 2020.

In 2024, electric cars sales in China are projected to leap to about 10 million, accounting for about 45% of all car sales in the country. In the United States, roughly one in nine cars sold are projected to be electric – while in Europe, despite a generally weak outlook for passenger car sales and the phase-out of subsidies in some countries, electric cars are still set to represent about one in four cars sold.

This growth builds on a record-breaking 2023. Last year, global electric car sales soared by 35% to almost 14 million. While demand remained largely concentrated in China, Europe and the United States, growth also picked up in some emerging markets such as Viet Nam and Thailand, where electric cars accounted for 15% and 10%, respectively, of all cars sold.

Substantial investment in the electric vehicle supply chain, ongoing policy support, and declines in the price of EVs and their batteries are expected to produce even more significant changes in the years to come. The Outlook finds that under today’s policy settings, every other car sold globally is set to be electric by 2035. Meanwhile, if countries’ announced energy and climate pledges are met in full and on time, two in three cars sold would be electric by 2035. In this scenario, the rapid uptake of electric vehicles – from cars to vans, trucks, buses, and two- and three-wheelers –  avoids the need for around 12 million barrels of oil per day, on a par with current demand from road transport in China and Europe combined.

“The continued momentum behind electric cars is clear in our data, although it is stronger in some markets than others,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol . “Rather than tapering off, the global EV revolution appears to be gearing up for a new phase of growth. The wave of investment in battery manufacturing suggests the EV supply chain is advancing to meet automakers’ ambitious plans for expansion. As a result, the share of EVs on the roads is expected to continue to climb rapidly. Based on today’s policy settings alone, almost one in three cars on the roads in China by 2030 is set to be electric, and almost one in five in both the United States and European Union. This shift will have major ramifications for both the auto industry and the energy sector.”

The report finds that manufacturers have taken major steps to deliver on the strengthening EV ambitions of governments, including by making significant financial commitments. Thanks to high levels of investment over the past five years, the world’s capacity to produce batteries for EVs is well positioned to keep up with demand, even as it rises sharply over the next decade. The pace of the transition to EVs may not be consistent and will hinge on affordability, the report emphasises.

In China, more than 60% of electric cars sold in 2023 were already less expensive to buy than their conventional equivalents. However, in Europe and the United States, the purchase prices for cars with internal combustion engines remained cheaper on average, though intensifying market competition and improving battery technologies are expected to reduce prices in the coming years. Even where upfront prices are high, the lower operating costs of EVs mean the initial investment pays back over time.

Growing electric car exports from Chinese automakers, which accounted for more than half of all electric car sales in 2023, could add to downward pressure on purchase prices. Chinese companies, which are also setting up production facilities abroad, have already seen strong sales of more affordable models launched in 2022 and 2023 in overseas markets. This highlights that the composition of the main EV-producing economies is diverging considerably from the traditional auto industry.

Ensuring that the availability of public charging keeps pace with electric vehicle sales is crucial for continued growth, according to the report. The number of public charging points installed globally was up 40% in 2023 relative to 2022, and growth for fast chargers outpaced that of slower ones. However, to meet a level of electric vehicle deployment in line with the pledges made by governments, charging networks need to grow sixfold by 2035. At the same time, policy support and careful planning are essential to make sure greater demand for electricity from charging does not overstretch electricity grids.

Accompanying the Global EV Outlook 2024 are the Global EV Data Explorer and the Global EV Policy Explorer . These online tools allow users to interactively explore EV statistics, projections and policy measures worldwide.
