Positive Messages

Conveys the idea that lying is never a good thing. But overall the superficial treatment of the film's more provocative elements (a controversial romance, illegal gambling) leaves no room for strongly positive messages.

Positive Role Models

Although it doesn't go into depth on this aspect, one of the characters has a strong bond with his younger sister who's ill, at one point giving up vices like cigarette smoking and clandestine racing. Some characters are stereotypical rich-kid types; the lower-class characters are typically portrayed more sympathetically.

Diverse Representations

Mainly Spanish young cast. The main character's best friends are Afro-Latinos. The female characters are somewhat objectified in terms of attire and their behavior at parties, with some portrayed as victims. Noah, however, isn't intimidated. She's very good at driving cars and has no problem holding her own in the races.

Violence & Scariness

Secret races with dangerous maneuvers. Characters get into fights (some gang-related) and are slightly injured; some blood and bruises are seen. One of the characters is kidnapped, and there's a reference to domestic violence. A character who suffers from PTSD is locked in a closet. Shots are fired during a chase, and one of the characters is shot dead, although it's not shown.

Sex, Romance & Nudity

The movie's premise revolves around the attraction between step-siblings, one of whom is 17 (the age of sexual consent in Spain is 16). There's dating, flirting, kissing, fondling over clothing in a sexual context, two characters having sex in a beach (bare backside is visible, but genitals are covered). Characters wear swimsuits that reveal bare buttocks.

Young people, including minors, drink alcohol at parties and celebrations. One of the characters is given "burundanga" (drug) in her drink. Another of the characters smokes cigarettes but quits.

Parents Need to Know

Families need to know that My Fault is a Spanish film based on the best-selling book by Argentine-Spanish writer Mercedes Ron that started out as a Wattpad story. It follows teenage Noah (Nicole Wallace) as she embarks on a forbidden romance with her new step-brother, Nick (Gabriel Guevara). Young people, including minors, drink alcohol, and one character is given a drug in her drink. Another character smokes cigarettes but quits. There are secret fights and car racing bets, and characters get into fights, with blood and bruises are seen. A character is kidnapped, and there's a reference to domestic violence. Shots are fired during a chase, and one character is shot dead, although the death isn't shown. Language includes "motherf----r", "s--t," "f--k," "hell," "ass," "a--hole," and "d--k." Sexual content is pretty intense for a story about teens, with skimpy swimsuits, dating, flirting, kissing, fondling over clothing, two characters, and teens having sex on the beach (bare backside visible). My Fault Movie: Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara share a kiss

What's the Story?

In MY FAULT, Noah (Nicole Wallace) leaves her hometown to move to the mansion of William Leister (Iván Sánchez), the new husband of her mother, Rafaella (Marta Hazas). There she meets her new stepbrother, Nick (Gabriel Guevara). Their personalities clash from the first moment, but their attraction will lead them into a forbidden relationship. Nick's taboo hobby, illegal racing, puts Noah -- whose biological father also raced before going to prison for domestic abuse and attempted murder -- in the crosshairs of Nick's rivals.

Is It Any Good?

This soapy story has plenty of attention-getting elements -- a forbidden relationship, high society young people, illegal fights, car racing, gambling, and gangs. But because of jumbled plot lines, it doesn't come together very well. The movie feels like an odd mixture of elements from other films, including Fast & Furious , Fight Club , and Fifty Shades of Grey ( without the BDSM).

My Fault is based on a best-selling book that first rose to popularity on the Wattpad platform due to its provocative bits, rather than the quality of the writing. The movie follows suit, with the script including some of the book's racier, more cringe-inducing elements (like the attraction between a 17-year-old girl and her 21-year-old stepbrother). Alas, My Fault 's combination of improbable dramatic narrative and erotic sexual encounters doesn't even qualify as a guilty pleasure.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

Families may talk about whether movies like My Fault present a realistic view of teenage life or an exaggerated one. What would be the real-life consequences of the characters' behavior?

Apart from language, what differentiates this Spanish movie from its American counterparts? Why do you think some content (swearing, nudity, smoking) is received differently in different countries?

Talk about safe sex and the consequences of drinking and hurting other people. Why are realistic consequences important to show in the media?

Soapy Spanish rom-dram My Fault (now streaming on Amazon Prime Video ) pushes the boundaries of young adult a little closer to adult-adult, being several degrees steamier than, say, Twilight , but still cooler than the scalding cheese of something like Fifty Shades . Based on the first of a trilogy of books by Spanish-Argentine novelist Mercedes Ron , the film stars Nicole Wallace as a teenager who falls hard for her new stepbrother and makes us all really really uncomfortable about it. Seems like a problematic narrative, but maybe the movie will find a way to wiggle out of the ethical quandary the situation presents.

MY FAULT : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

The Gist: She’s Noah (Wallace) and she takes no shit. Antagonize her, and she’ll slice you up. She’s very much in lash-out mode these days: Her mother Rafaella (Marta Hazas) just married a bazillionaire, so they’re moving into his gargantu-mansion, far away from Noah’s school and boyfriend and friends, and she’s not happy about it. She might be impressed with her far-beyond-fancy new home with its gates and butlers and limos, but she’ll be damned if she says anything positive about anything right now, or admit that anything ever makes her happy. “I just got here and everyone hates me already,” she laments, showing an alarming lack of self-awareness. TEENAGERS, RIGHT? Such drama.

But then she meets her new stepbrother Nick (Gabriel Guevara), who walks into the room like someone just dumped water on the coals: sizzle sizzle. They instantly “hate” each other, of course. They exchange they-doth-protest-too-much barbed banter in spite of all the blood that’s rushing to their groins. Nick is 21 and angling for entry into the Badboy Hall of Fame. Noah ends up at a party, watching shirtless Nick lick tequila off a variety of bimbos’ breasts. She ends up at another party, watching Nick street-race his Very Expensive Sports Automobile against recently incarcerated gangsta-creeps. She ends up at yet another party, watching Nick bareknuckle box chiseled brutes. We get it: He’s tough, he’s cocky, he’s violent and if you put him on a platter with some A-1 steak sauce, she’ll eat him alive.

But you’ll find Noah is full of surprises. At the street-race party, she gets behind the wheel of Nick’s Porsche and beats the main gangsta-creep, embarrassing him. See, her dad was a racecar driver, and taught her a thing or two before he ended up in jail for doing heinous things, things hinted at in recurring traumatic flashbacks. It’s a narrative timeline that tells us her dad has been incarcerated for many years now, so he apparently taught her how to drive when she was, I dunno, eight years old? I’m not so sure about the math of your narrative timeline here, Lou. Either way, we’re here now, watching Noah and Nick bicker until they finally mash face and participate in a totally hawwt scene prompting us to ponder whether or not it’s logically possible to dry hump in a pool – and the romantic temp only gets hawwter from there, considering how forbidden and secret their lusty-lust is. Meanwhile, Noah keeps getting threatening texts and notes from an anonymous antagonist, the identity of which is so obvious, even Stimpson J. Cat could figure out who it is in no time flat. Now, will this plot resolve itself in a non-ridiculous manner? NO SPOILERS, but that seems pretty much impossible.

What Movies Will It Remind You Of?: This is teen-romance crud drafting off the likes of Like Crazy or All the Bright Places with softer-core Fifty Shades sex scenes, half-assed Fast and Furious race/party sequences and a few oogy Lolita vibes. It also recalls the After franchise.

Performance Worth Watching: I feel like Wallace and Guevara would make a convincingly magnetic couple in a movie that wasn’t so blatantly moronic. Maybe next time kids!

Memorable Dialogue: This is so embarrassing, I’m cringing as I type it:

Nick: This isn’t right. Noah: It isn’t right at all. Nick: You’re my stepsister and you’re 17. Noah. Then kiss me until I’m 18.

Sex and Skin: Male/female rear nudeness, some steamy sexytimes that are more suggestive than explicit and faux-artsy-fartsy and admittedly fairly hot until you realize we’re sidling up next to an uncomfortable taboo and putting our hand on its thigh.

Our Take: OK, whose fault is My Fault anyway wocka wocka! Is it Ron’s, for conceiving this ludicrous scenario that’s a rancid distillation of many annoying and not very good things that came before it? Is it writer/director Domingo Gonzalez for herky-jerking us around between terrible romance, terrible action and terrible family drama? Is it both of them for executing a plot whose primary component is nonsense, and vomiting forth such chunderously godawful dialogue as “You don’t need kisses, you need volcanic eruptions in your mouth”? (Maybe it comes off better in its native Spanish, but I have my doubts.)

I rest my case. Actually, I don’t: The characters are insipid and rudimentary, crudely carved from the granite of countless hoary cliches. Noah’s traumatic backstory is trite and unconvincing; she’s characterized as a mouthy type who reads, like, actual books ( Pride and Prejudice , Romeo and Juliet ) and sandpapers our asses from her very first scene – she’s the world’s most petulant Austenite. And Nick, well, he’s not any of that, and that’s about it, although he has a little half-sister with diabetes (WEEP FOR HER) who exists in the soft part of his heart, although that part isn’t nearly as mushy as his brain.

Spending time with these two and their perfunctory, color-by-numbers romance – studded with witless I-hate-you/I-wanna-eff-you banter – is annoying and excruciating even if you can temporarily ward off the distant thunder in your guts warning us to stop wanting to see them have sex (they are physically attractive human beings) in spite of how deliriously close they are to committing jailbait incest. That mighty conflict between moral reasoning and pelvic desire is enough to tie your intestines in a knot, but one thing is abundantly clear: This is an atrocious movie.

Our Call: Oh, and it sets itself up for a sequel. Get the f— outta here. SKIP IT.

My Fault (2023) Ending Explained – what does Noah’s mom say at the end?

My Fault (2023) Ending Explained

My Fault follows Noah , a beautiful, independent, proud, and brilliant young woman who doesn’t need anyone. She has just moved into a mansion with her mother, Rafaella, who has married Will, a wealthy billionaire with a 21-year-old son, Nick, as they fend off their friction-filled attraction to each other – at the ending of the movie, Noah’s mother is not happy with her daughter’s developing relationship with Nick.

My Fault Ending Explained

Noah must navigate her new life, her attraction to Nick, and a stalker as she’s on the verge of turning into an adult. Also, she overcame the demons from her past, which involved an abusive father who traumatized her as a small child.

How is Noah’s father, Padre, killed?

Noah’s father is shot and killed by a detective while riding in the passenger seat of Nick’s car. Noah kidnaps his daughter by having a local gangster, Ronnie, drug and abduct her. When Nick figures out how to locate Padre, Noah, and Ronnie (since Ronnie has Nick’s car), he uses his insurance tracker to find them. Padre forces his daughter to drive in a high-speed chase and holds her at gunpoint.

While being chased by the police with Nick having a detective in his passenger seat, Noah and Padre are cornered at the end of a dock in a crowded marina. Nick pulls his car onto the opposite end of the pier. They make eye contact (they must have perfect vision) and immediately know what to do — performing a 20/60 spin maneuver.

They drive straight at each other and execute the maneuver, spinning past each other. Noah ducks his head; Nick does the same. The detective then fires her gun. Padre is shot and killed. If you remember, Noah teaches Nick that maneuver while watching a movie, even though he thinks it’s impossible.

Noah says pulling the brake and turning the wheel 20 degrees to the right and 60 degrees to the left can accomplish this maneuver.

How do Noah and Nick fall in love?

Noah and Nick fall in love because the abandonment trauma has damaged them. Nick doesn’t know his mother, is abandoned by his stepmother, and still decides to have a relationship with his young stepsister, who has a chronic case of type one diabetes. Of course, Noah had a violent relationship with her father, and she never had a father figure.

You could also argue that Noah is a lot like her father. Noah comments during their fight that she enjoys violence because it unburdens her. Nick’s father does comment that Noah’s father is violent and that some people damage others because violence unburdens them. Based on presexual programming, women are attracted to men like their fathers.

However, when Nick apologizes and tells Noah he’s done with that world, only then does she fall deeply beyond a physical attraction.

What does Noah’s mom say at the end of the film?

At the ending of My Fault , Noah’s mother, Rafaella, says to her husband, “Will, we have to do something.” She says this after we see Nick and Noah spend the night together in Nick’s home, the guest house on his father’s property. We can assume that Rafaella and Noah are upset with this arrangement for a few reasons.

For one, Noah is only 17 years old, and Nick is 22. (It’s important to note that Spain’s statutory rape laws are for anyone under 16 years of age, even though in the film, they talk about her not being eighteen yet). Second, while it is perfectly legal to date or marry your step-sibling, this could also break up Rafaella and Will if the children break up.

Obviously, they didn’t grow up together and form a sibling bond. However, Noah may be worried Nick is a loose cannon like Noah’s father, and he’s not good enough for her.

From Amazon and Director Domingo González comes this Hallmark-esque love story about a young girl falling for her new stepbrother in My Fault. Although the story is far from original it is performed well by the actors who had as much belief as they can into their performances and do even better in keeping us viewers interested to the end. There are some highlights in My Fault with the dialogue between characters but nothing on the level that will have Quentin Tarrantino quaking in his boots or losing any sleep. My Fault is a semi-decent watch that gets you involved in the characters and plot, it will also entertain you whilst touching on the nerves of thought-provocation but it isn't one you'll be rushing to watch again.

My Fault: 8 Spoiler-Free Things To Know About The Prime Video Show Before You Watch

This step-sibling romance may be right up your alley.

Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara in My Fault on Amazon Prime Video

It seems like a common practice to spend time just scrolling through a streaming service looking for anything to watch. This happened to me a few weeks ago when I found My Fault on Amazon Prime Video. My initial thought was that it looked ridiculous, but I wondered if it would be ridiculous in a fun way or an unwatchable way. It heavily leaned towards the fun side of ridiculous.

So, let me tell you more about the movie and why you need to watch it if you’re into a certain type of movie or book...and, yes , I mean forbidden romance YA genre fiction.

Gabriel Guevara and Nicole Wallace in My Fault

My Fault Is A Teen Dramedy

Let’s get down to the basics of My Fault . At its core, it’s a teen drama with a sprinkle of comedy, or a lot of comedy depending on what you find funny. It follows Noah (Nicole Wallace) as she must leave her comfortable life for a very different one when her mother remarries a rich guy, and now Noah is thrown into the world of the elite.

She also has another major problem: her seemingly perfect, do-gooder older step-brother, Nick (Gabriel Guevara). You can probably guess where this is going: forbidden lovers and enemies-to-lovers' land. Nick and Noah are definitely no Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth or other great enemies-to-lovers pairs, but they may be just as young and reckless as Romeo and Juliet and other famous forbidden love couples.

The drama starts with Nick and Noah’s attraction to each other, but it goes beyond that detail. There are a lot of dramatic twists, especially involving Noah’s life before her mother remarried and some of Nick’s secrets. The film focuses heavily on the drama, but there are some playful comedic moments as well, especially involving Nick and Noah’s banter and the ways they try to hide their growing attraction.

Gabriel Guevara and Nicole Wallace in My Fault

It’s Adapted From A Spanish Book Series

My Fault is a Spanish-language movie. For those who don't speak Spanish, Amazon Prime Video offers you the option to view the movie with a dubbed voice-over or subtitles. The film is based on the book series Culpa Mía by Mercedes Ron, which is a trilogy that follows Nick and Noah’s relationship. According to Bloom Books , it has Wattpad origins, and Goodreads notes that the original book series was published from 2017 to 2018.

In June 2023, the first English-language version of the first book was published. The other two books in the series are scheduled to be published in December 2023 and February 2024.

As stated, Noah and Nick are step-siblings. For some, this will make the movie an immediate pass. For others, this may make them at least curious to watch. No judgment to wherever you fall on this forbidden love genre spectrum, but it’s definitely something to note.

Also worth noting is that Noah is 17 in the movie and Nick’s age isn’t disclosed, but he’s definitely older, as he’s studying law and makes a comment about her being only 17. So yeah, the film is checking as many forbidden romance boxes as possible.

Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara as Noah and Nick in My Fault

It’s A Movie That Doesn’t Take Itself Too Seriously

There are some movies that, despite their content, take themselves way too seriously. My Fault is not one of those movies. It doesn’t make fun of the forbidden romance, young-adult genre, but it is also a self-aware movie. For example, one of the characters points out the questionable nature of a romance between step-siblings. He even mentions the incestuous nature of it. There is also a lot of random music played throughout, and this kind of feels like a silly nod to movies like the 365 Days franchise and its excessive use of music.

Maybe I’m misreading some of the content of My Fault, but I feel like it gives self-aware nods to a few of the more ridiculous elements of the movie. It’s not making fun of itself but it also knows that this isn’t one of the best Amazon Prime Video movies or even the sexiest Amazon Prime Video movies , but the filmmakers want you to have fun while you watch.

Nicole Wallace in My Fault

Suspense And Mystery Are A Major Part Of The Story

My Fault has some suspense and mystery throughout. The film also doesn’t feel like it adds these elements just to draw out the story, as the mystery aspects are pretty compelling and give some substance to it that doesn’t just revolve around romance. Noah starts to get threatening letters, but you won’t learn until later in the movie who sends them and why.

I enjoyed the mystery and I thought the reveal added some more drama in a way that gave Noah and Nick’s relationship something beyond the bad boy, good girl romantic trope. It showed a part of Nick that he needs to address and what could cause issues in their romance beyond the forbidden nature of it.

Fans Of The After And Through My Window Series May Enjoy This Film

There are several popular young adult romance franchises, including After (which will have a fifth film released in 2023, and has three of its movies streaming on Netflix) and Through My Window (a Netflix original), with the latter being launched in 2022, and it getting its first sequel in 2023. Both film franchises are based on popular book series and involve some romantic angst.

This commonality may make fans of those books and movies also want to check out My Fault .

My Fault’s Car Racing Scenes Are Some Of The Best Parts Of The Movie

My Fault also just happens to have some car racing elements. Yes, like the Fast and the Furious movies , but it’s not a car racing movie. However, this is a huge part of the plot. Additionally, some of the most fun scenes involve racing. I cannot stress enough how much other stuff is thrown into this teen drama, but it all somehow works.

Nicole Wallace as Noah in My Fault

There Are Currently No Sequels But There Are More Books That Could Be Adapted

As part of a trilogy, My Fault has the potential to be Amazon Prime Video’s own popular teen romance movies series, similar to Netflix’s Through My Window, The Kissing Booth, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before . As of June 2023, the cast and crew have made no official announcement about making a sequel(s) to My Fault , but with its popularity on Amazon and the sales of the first book, it’s definitely a possibility.

This is not a masterpiece of a film, but if forbidden romances, car racing, and a drop of suspense and mystery are your thing, then you should definitely watch it.

My Fault summary and ending explained

My Fault Prime

My Fault  focuses on Noah, a young woman who moves into a mansion with her mother, Rafaella, and her new billionaire husband. Amid this change, she finds herself navigating a potential conflict-fuelled romance with her stepbrother Nick. It is based on the eponymous best-selling novel by Argentine writer, Mercedes Ron.

Plot summary

My Fault  opens with Noah having to leave her town, boyfriend and friends to move in with her mother, Rafaella, and her new billionaire husband, William Leister.

Noah arrives at her lavish new home and isn’t too swayed by the lifestyle, finding it overly pretentious. Finally, she meets William’s son, Nick and they don’t get off on the right foot.

He is quite proud and arrogant and isn’t pleased about having Noah in the house. However, he is attracted to her rebellious demeanour.

During their first dinner together, we find out that Nick is considered to be the perfect son as he is a surfing champion and studying to become a lawyer. When he excuses himself to allegedly work on a case, Noah wants to leave too.

Coincidentally, the folks ask Nick to drop Noah home. We soon discover that Nick isn’t the goody two shoes his parents think he is. He parties profusely, races cars, and uses boxing as a means of coping with nerves.

During their ride home, Nick drops Noah in the middle of nowhere after she brings up the former’s mother. Luckily, she is picked up by Nick’s friend, Mario.

She accompanies him to a party and notices Nick enjoying himself instead of working on a case. Noah threatens to expose his lies to the parents but consumes spiked drinks herself.

Nick helps her get home safely and the two agree to safeguard each other’s secrets.

Soon after, Noah goes to an illegal car race which Nick is a part of. He wins the first race but is visibly flustered when he watches Noah kiss another man.

It is explained that Noah receives pictures of her boyfriend kissing another woman. To get back at him, she kisses a random guy for a picture as well.

In a curious turn of events, Nick proposes that he should be the one for Noah to kiss. However, in return, she has to go back home. She agrees, and they kiss.

As Noah waits in Nick’s car, a crook named Ronnie challenges her to a race. He is supposed to race Nick and Noah tries to get out of the situation.

However, when he insults her, Noah’s pride forces her to teach the man a lesson. She wins the race, but a rude shock awaits.

According to the deal between Nick and Ronnie, the former was supposed to compete in the race, and since he did not, Ronnie asks him to hand over his car, and the race wins.

A scuffle breaks out when Ronnie insults Noah, and Nick punches him in the face. The two escape and show genuine concern towards each other.

My Fault  ending explained in detail:

What is Noah’s traumatic past?

Nick notices that Noah collapsed during the fight and discovers that she experienced childhood trauma due to an abusive father.

He used to torture her mother relentlessly, and when things got out of hand, Rafaella used to hide her in the cupboard. This led to her developing a fear of closed spaces and violence.

He almost killed Noah one day with a knife and was arrested. Her statement was vital in his being declared guilty.

How does Noah’s and Nick’s relationship develop?

Nick starts falling hard for Noah, and she reciprocates the feelings. They kiss once again but decide to maintain their distance since they are step-siblings.

In a comedic twist, Noah’s cheating ex shows up, and she has to hide Noah from him as she sent him a picture of them kissing. Elsewhere, Ronnie finds Nick and beats him up to send a message to Noah.

As the two share a tender moment together, Dan walks in on them. Noah forgives Dan for cheating on her but asks not to spill her secret. He keeps his word and flies out the next day.

Unfortunately, things go sour between them when she sees Nick take part in an underground fistfight. Her trauma acts up, and the two have a falling out.

Who kidnaps Noah?

During a party, Noah is locked inside an enclosed space owing to a prank and panics. Nick saves her and takes her home.

He takes care of her, and the two grow close. The two are extremely in love and decide to spend a night together before parting ways. They don’t want to harm their parents’ reputation

They have sex on a beach and then go to a convenience store to buy more protection. Nick goes inside while Noah waits in the car. Unfortunately, this is when Ronnie shows up and kidnaps her.

Nick is disturbed, and his parents are extremely disappointed. The cops get involved, and it is revealed that Noah’s dad has been released from prison.

Nick checks the security footage and realizes that Ronnie is responsible. Elsewhere, Noah wakes up from sedation and is shocked to see her dad.

It is revealed that he orchestrated the entire plan with Ronnie when the two met in prison. It was her father who had been sending threatening letters to Noah throughout the film.

Now, he demands a ransom from William and Rafaella in exchange for Noah. As they wait for him with the money, he doesn’t show up. Rafaella states that he’s doing it to cause them pain and doesn’t care about the money. This is when Nick realizes something important.

He remembers that the insurance company installed a tracker within his red car, which he had to give away. He uses it and reaches the location. Unfortunately, Noah and her dad escape, and a car chase ensues.

After an intense few moments, the cop sitting next to Nick in his car shoots Noah’s dad. Rafaella is glad to see her daughter safe, and the family heads home.

That night Nick sneaks into Noah’s room, and the two spend the night together. We then see Rafaella and William in the distance, with the former exclaiming that they need to stop this from happening.

‘My Fault’ (2023) Movie Review: We’re Getting Too Old For This

My Fault

My Fault is a Spanish film written and directed by Domingo González and is based on the novel by Mercedes Ron . It stars Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara .

A film that goes beyond film criticism and is beyond neorealism, nouvelle vague and all the pedantry you can think of.

Pure “mischievousness” at the service of testosterone, estrogen, and the hottest youth eager to have a very, very good time.

Movie Review

Just by how it begins you already know that this is what it’s all about: a lot of music that requires pills to be able to enjoy it, car races, bands and a pinch of class struggle to, all mixed with a very badass sauce, come up with this film designed only and exclusively for young people.

Poor quality in the dialogues and situations… good editing, though. Characters that go nowhere, a story that could have been spared… but this movie knows how to take advantage of its charm.

Let me give you an example: after a crazy night out, the two protagonists (stepsiblings) go to the beach and, of course, he changes while joking with his friends about his sculpted abs and, just like that and with all the naturalness in the world, he shows his “ass” to his stepsister, who can’t help but look at it.

Now, you’ll tell me that it’s a tribute to Fellini… well, I don’t know, maybe it is. Or… it’s a film that always seeks to be easy and to please, with lots of partying and skin-deep hormones, an audience that has come to see exactly what you will see here.

And it is also not bad to give the public what they want.

Our opinion

A movie designed exclusively for a young audience that, without much cinematographic interest, threatens to change the lives of our youth forever and become something like the Teen Beat of other times.

The Spanish-language film My Fault — or Culpa mía , in its native tongue — adapted the first instalment of author Mercedes Ron's Culpables trilogy of novels, with the sequels also set to be turned into films from the streamer.

Prime Video is now moving forward with an English-language version called My Fault: London , where Asha Banks and Matthew Broome ( The Buccaneers ) take on the roles of Noah and Nick.

The pair's paths first cross with their parents get married and they all move their newly-blended family into a glitzy London home.

Noah and Nick immediately clash as step-siblings, but an attraction continues to draw them together. At the same time, Noah has no idea her father has recently been released from prison and is tracking her every move.

Adapted from Joshua Safran’s novel, it encapsulates the fervent love shared between privileged Jade and the charismatic David, forging a passionate yet tumultuous relationship. Themes of all-consuming desire, societal divides, and the clash between personal yearnings and familial expectations are expertly woven into the narrative. Echoing the spirit of ‘My Fault,’ both films dive into the profound allure of forbidden affection.

9. Remember Me (2010)

Directed by Allen Coulter and penned by Will Fetters, ‘ Remember Me ‘ is a poignant coming-of-age romantic drama film. Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin star in the lead roles, exploring the transformative journey of young love against a backdrop of life’s complexities. Set in New York, ‘ Remember Me ‘ follows Tyler as he navigates his personal struggles while falling for Ally.

As the duo’s love grows, they confront their own family traumas and societal expectations. Similarly to ‘My Fault,’ the film delves into the complexities of forbidden love and the emotional turmoil that arises when personal desires clash with external pressures, creating a resonating narrative of passionate connection.

8. The Spectacular Now (2013)

movie reviews my fault

Directed by James Ponsoldt, ‘ The Spectacular Now ‘ emerges as a poignant coming-of-age romantic drama film. Adapted from Tim Tharp’s 2008 novel, the film intertwines the lives of high schoolers Sutter and Aimee, portrayed by Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley. In ‘The Spectacular Now,’ Sutter, a charismatic high-schooler with a penchant for living in the moment, forms an unlikely bond with Aimee, an introverted girl with dreams of the future.

As the two navigate their senior year, their growing romance exposes both the beauty and complexities of young love. This narrative, resonant with themes of unexpected connections and personal growth, resembles the heartwarming journey of forbidden romance in ‘My Fault,’ where two individuals similarly find themselves drawn to each other against the odds, setting the stage for transformative emotional exploration.

7. The Summer We Lived (2020)

In a separate narrative set in 1998, a young journalist trainee, Isabel, investigates and reconstructs this intertwined love story with the help of Carlos, the architect’s son. This intricate exploration of forbidden love and rediscovery shares thematic resonance with ‘My Fault,’ delving into the depths of passionate connections that transcend time and societal norms.

6. Palo Alto (2013)

movie reviews my fault

Crafted by Gia Coppola, ‘Palo Alto’ unfolds as a compelling drama film, drawing inspiration from James Franco ‘s eponymous 2010 short story collection. It features a stellar cast led by Franco, Emma Roberts , Jack Kilmer, Nat Wolff, and Zoe Levin, weaving a narrative that delves into the complex lives of its characters. The movie portrays the intertwining lives of several high school students as they navigate the challenges of adolescence, peer pressure, and self-discovery.

‘Palo Alto’ plunges into these teenagers’ relationships, desires, and personal struggles, reflecting the complex journey of youth. My Life in the Brat Pack, Reconsidered

Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy, decades ago.

By Andrew McCarthy

Mr. McCarthy’s forthcoming documentary is “Brats.”

When I was a very young man, I became very successful very quickly in a string of movies. It was the 1980s, and I was in the right place at the right time as a cultural shift was taking place.

It’s difficult to imagine now, but Hollywood was not always as enamored of the young as it is today. But seemingly overnight the focus of films shifted. No longer would the auteurs of the ’70s dictate the type of entertainment we would watch. Hollywood had discovered the purchasing power of a young audience and refocused its moneymaking tractor beam directly on it.

I and a cluster of other young actors were the beneficiaries of this redirection, and our careers quickly flourished — surprising no one more than us. There were some in the old guard who resented this upheaval, and when a disparaging article in New York magazine appeared lumping a group of us young actors together as the Brat Pack, many in Hollywood snickered with satisfaction. We had been put in our place, brought down to size.

People had been eager to get a handle on this cultural realignment, and the catchy turn of phrase caught fire. The nod to the Rat Pack placed us on a historical Hollywood continuum while reducing us by stripping away our individuality. My career and those of a half dozen others were forever branded. As the magazine put it: “This is the Hollywood ‘Brat Pack.’ It is to the 1980s what the Rat Pack was to the 1960s — a roving band of famous young stars on the prowl for parties, women and a good time.”

We hated the tag. We were now members of a club none of us wished to join. I felt that I lost control of the narrative of my career overnight. I tried to shrug off the Brat Pack label, hoping it would fade. But I didn’t understand something.

While I might have felt the term was pejorative and diminishing, the young people of my generation loved it. Being in the Brat Pack meant that I was one of the ultimate cool kids, the ones you wanted to hang out with, to emulate; we were the ones you admired.

There has never been a precise accounting of which actors constituted the Brat Pack, but that is largely beside the point. The Brat Pack was always more of an idea than any fixed reality. And it put a stamp on a generation.

For years, the disconnect between what I experienced and what the public felt made for an uneasy alliance. The Brat Pack label preceded me into every room I entered. I dragged it behind me like the carcass of youth. Then a few years ago, I wrote a book about that time and discovered something had happened while I wasn’t looking. I had grown not only to accept the Brat Pack label but also to regard it with deep affection. It turns out, I had been peering through the wrong end of the telescope, and when I spun it around, the view was expansive.

People approached me on the street for decades to quote lines from those films or to express how much they meant to them. Many people spoke about their own youth in relation to those films. Those are the people who taught me the most. I eventually came to understand that I and the other members of the Brat Pack represented that thrilling transitional time when life was a blank slate to be written on, when possibility was just a step over the horizon. We had become the avatars of youth for a certain generation.

During that heady and confusing time in the ’80s, the great French film director Claude Chabrol said to me, “My dear boy, the truth today is not the truth tomorrow.” For so long I didn’t understand what he meant, but perhaps now I do. Something that had cast such a long shadow over me, that I felt had obscured my identity and even clouded who I had perceived myself to be, had transformed into something like a blessing. It was a gift I could offer others by merely accepting their affection.

I began to wonder about the experience of other Brat Pack members, most of whom I hadn’t seen in decades. Had their perspective on the events of so long ago shifted in a similar fashion? I had the notion that since the Brat Pack came into existence entirely because of its relation to film, I might film the encounters .

A few of the pack were reluctant to participate, but with the majority who did, our reunions were sweet. Gone was the competitive and anxious edge of youth. What remained was a survivor’s recognition and mutual affection.

But something else happened during those meetings: By reviving and sharing experiences of our long-frozen past, so much of the detritus of that time was revealed to be a phantom that fell away, allowing the Brat Pack to be re-experienced in the present. The truth of the past had yielded to the truth of today. No longer an ancient albatross, the Brat Pack had been transformed by time into something to be celebrated by us as the cultural touchstone it was, a thing to be looked on at last with a shared and bemused affection — re-examined and embraced with something akin to wonder.
