Careers across our other sites

Child safety services.

We support families and communities to keep children and young people safe and healthy. Roles include child safety officers, child safety and wellbeing workers, and support workers.

Youth justice

Supporting young people at risk of, or engaging in, offending behaviours. Roles include youth workers, trainers, case management officers, and community youth justice workers.

Our corporate staff support all functions of our department, particularly frontline staff. Roles include policy and projects, human resources, information technology, legal services, facilities, finance, and communications.

We are Tasmania’s statewide publicly-funded library and archives service. Roles include librarians, customer service officers, and corporate staff.

Kate Ettlin

Kathleen is an elected member of Circular Head Council,  committee member of Regional Development Australia (Tasmania), former Chair and current member of the Circular Head Education and Training Consultative Committee, and a driving force behind the Circular Head regional workforce planning study. Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Kathleen has extensive experience in manufacturing, agriculture, nanotechnology measurement and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sectors and is currently undertaking post-doctoral research on ‘The future of work in regions’ through the University of Tasmania.

Vonette Mead

Co-owner and Operations Manager of Mead Con a construction company in Tasmania.  Vonette has over three decades of experience in the construction industry. An ambassador for Women in Construction, Vonette promotes industry awareness, opportunities and career pathways in the industry.  Vonette is board member of Master Builders Tasmania and outgoing board member and deputy chair of Keystone, the Tasmanian Building and Construction Industry Board.

Throughout appointments on boards and committees, Vonette draws on knowledge and experience working in construction across industries throughout Tasmania.  Deputy Mayor with Latrobe Council, Vonette has a lifelong connection to agriculture and a passion for community.  Vonette continues to expand networks and develop skills and knowledge to ensure she is well placed to perform her duties and obligations in board roles and in local government.

Michael is a sixth generation farmer and is providing the Board Committee with his wealth of knowledge gained over many years to help develop new opportunities and make the most of the advantages in the region.

Helen Thomas

Helen has over 28 years work experience across a range of industries, including multinational blue chip corporations, small family businesses, and not-for-profit and charitable organisations. This broad experience has proved valuable for her current role as Growth & Strategy Manager at King Island Council. Within this role, she has responsibility for economic development, brand management, procurement, project management and support for the Island’s tourism industry. This breadth of engagement across industries and communities gives Helen insight into many of the challenges faced and opportunities available to King Islanders, particularly in the realms of employment. She is a passionate advocate for her community and strives to balance growth and increased opportunity for the Island’s residents with protection of its unique environment and community.

Originally from the UK, Helen moved to King Island with her family six years ago to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle. She is thoroughly enjoying the busy realities of life in a small and vibrant community.

A senior business leader with twenty years of experience in managing Fortune 500 corporate divisions across the Asia Pacific region based in Sydney and Shenzhen.  President of the local chamber of commerce, Business Northwest (2017-2023) and was recently elected to the board of TCCI.   Heavily involved in the local veteran community as Vice President of the North West Tasmanian Veteran Welfare Board, Ian is also on the board of several leading regional economic organisations including West North West Working, Regional Economic Development Committee, CBD Reference Group and Youth Pathways. Ian was awarded Burnie City Council Citizen of the Year on Australia Day 2022.

Sarah Jones

Sarah has been living on the Central Coast of Tasmania since 2009. She is currently Director Strategy and Business Development for University College and manages the short course activity across UTAS. Prior to that she has worked in the north west region as Innovative Regions Facilitator with Enterprise Connect and more recently Business Facilitator with AiGroup supporting the Entrepreneurs Programme in Tasmania. This worked focussed on supporting business to collaborate, facilitate cluster development and builds linkages between business, government and the University/research sector. She has a background in advocacy, governance and regional development working in senior management positions with local government in Victoria and the clean/renewable energy sector nationally.

Shane was first elected as a Councillor in 2009 and says he is “very passionate about the West Coast having lived here my entire life, I see the value of what we can offer the rest of the world.”

Shane is a born and bred West Coaster, residing in Queenstown, he attended St Joseph’s Catholic School, Murray High School and did Trade Training at West Coast Community College. Shane has worked on the West Coast for 37 Years, predominantly in the mining industry, he was partner in an Electrical Contracting Business for 25 years and more recently is employed at Bluestone Tin Mine as an Electrical Specialist.

Shane is the Chair of Council’s Education and Training Advisory Committee. He also sit on Council’s Audit Panel Committee and is Council’s Representative to the Cradle Coast Authority.

Shane is active in the community and is Scout Leader Queenstown and has been part of the Scout Group for 32 years. Addtionally, he is President of The Queenstown Club, President of Mountain Heights School Association, Past President and now Public Officer  for Queenstown Anglers Club, Past President and now Public Officer of Queenstown Lions Club, Previous Chair and now Deputy Chair for the Unconformity Board.
