Dr. Osei Kwame Despite is a wealthy Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist. He owns Despite Company Limited, a business firm with Subsidiaries in the media industry.

Osei Despite was born on February 2, 1962, in Wiamose, Ashanti Region. He is 62 years old as of 2024 and hails from Wiamose. The business mogul is married and has nine (9) children from two separate women.

Doctor shares an inspiring rags-to-riches story. His journey to becoming a rich man began with petty trading in a town named Dunkwa-Offinso in the Ashanti Region. He sold feeding bottles, padlocks, boxers, singlets, and other items to survive at a young age because he came from a deprived household.

After many years as a petty trader, Mr. Despite relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, in search of greener pastures. He went to Nigeria with friends, but unfortunately for him, he spent just a few years because, in 1983, he was among the Ghanaians who were deported to Ghana due to rising Political tension in Nigeria. So because of this, Osei Kwame returned to Ghana. He came with just two items: a Chainsaw and a Cassette player to his home country, Ghana.

He started lumbering work with his Chainsaw but was unsuccessful at the job. He then decided to go back to selling musical Cassettes, and after several years of doing this business, he established PEACE FM, his first radio station. This radio station started operations in January 1999 and has years later helped set up other stations like NEAT FM, OKAY FM, and HELLO FM.

Now, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite can boast of many companies in different sectors. He owns ANTONA FOODS Limited, manufacturers of “This Way Products,” NEAT FOODS Limited, producers of ” Neat Fufu, Neat Plantain, Neat Hausa Koko, Neat palm nut, and Neat Cocoyam. He is also the owner of Despite Stores in the Ashanti Region.

There are other companies he co-owns with his good friend Ernest Ofori Sarpong, who many think is a brother to the business mogul. These companies he co-owns are United Television (UTV), a TV station in Ghana, U2 Company Limited, producers of U2 Iodated Salt, and Best Point Savings and Loans Limited, which has branches in different regions in Ghana.

Apart from these companies, Despite has other investments and properties in the Greater Accra Region and Ashanti Region. He owns a big mansion at East Legon in Accra and drives cars like Bugatti Chiron worth about three (3) million dollars, Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Bugatti La Voiture Noire, Rolls-Royce Sweptail, and other expensive vehicles.

Kennedy Asante Osei, the first son of Osei Kwame Despite and General Manager of Despite Media, has tied the knot with his beautiful fiancee, Tracy.

As earlier reported by YEN.com.gh , the wedding came off at the Trassaco Valley near East Legon in Accra on Thursday, February 13, 2020.

While the wedding has been the trending topic of the day, not much is known about her except her first, at least not until now.

Kennedy Osei's beautiful, as she has become now is officially known as Tracy Akosua Gyamfua Ameyaw.

In the video which has just popped up online, the newly married couple could be seen inside a room.

Dancing to a love song which was laying in the background, the two held onto each other by the waist.

Midway through their dance, Kennedy and Tracy decided to lock their lips in a deep kiss which was the first at their wedding.

Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, was born as Osei Kwame at Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region. He grew up in a middle-class home in the village and always yearned for a better life.

Despite was born on the 2nd February 1962. He celebrated his 60th birthday few days ago and brought the nation to a standstill.

Osei Kwame Despite’s education background from elementary is not known but he has an honorary degree from a British university.

He was conferred this title because of his entrepreneurship efforts, philanthropy and contribution to the growth of the economy.

Despite also has a Honorary Doctorate Degree in Human Resource from Canterbury University, Honorary Ambassador of Business Entrepreneur in West Africa (Ambassador) and Honorary man of the moment, Ghana, West Africa.

Despite began hustling at a young age and started trading in anything he could to survive. He sold music cassettes, feeding bottles, padlocks and other goods at Dunkwa-Offinso in the Central Region of Ghana.

Live in the village was not lucrative so Despite migrated to Lagos, Nigeria after many years of struggle to search for greener pastures.

His journey was however cut short in 1983 when he had to flee from Nigeria because of political unrest in the country. He returned to Ghana with a dream and a Chain-saw machine.

He later started selling cassettes until he diversified his business and ventured into broadcasting by establishing an Akan speaking radio station, Peace FM in 1999 at Mile 7 Junction. The radio station became a national favorite because it used the Akan language in broadcasting as opposed to the Queen’s language.

This was the beginning of his media empire and financial breakthrough.

Osei-Kwame is the owner of the Despite Company Ltd which is a trading company and with subsidiaries in the media industry namely, PEACE FM which is the largest and the most popular FM station in the country, OKAY FM station, NEAT FM both in Accra and HELLO FM station in Kumasi.

Dr. Osei-Kwame set-up NEAT FOODS LTD, which processes our local plantain, cocoyam, maize and palm fruits such as Neat Fufu, which is has become a preference to the traditional fufu. He also owns a manufacturing company ANTONA FOODS LTD, producing the ever popular THIS WAY chocolate drink and other flavors including the Motherlac cereal for children. Despite is a co-founder of a Salt mining company, U2 Salt, which is located at Winneba.

Dr. Osei-Kwame with his partner co-founded the United Television (UTV) which is leading TV station in the country.

He is the co-founder and Vice Chairman of Best Point Savings and Loans Ltd, a very renowned financial institution in the country.

Dr. Osei Kwame Despite ranks as one of the millionaires in Ghana. His real net worth is not known but he was placed 3rd in Ghana’s richest men as of 2019.

Photos of Despite’s first wife surfaced on social media in 2020 when his first son, Kennedy Osei tied the knot.

His second wife, Aunty Ewurama , also surfaced on social media few months ago when the business mogul donated a children’s ward at the 37 Military Hospital.

Early life [ edit ]

He was born in Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti region of Ghana . He started life as a trader who sold music cassettes, feeding bottles, padlocks and other goods at Dunkwa - Offinso in the Central Region of Ghana . After many years of struggle to make it in life in the village, he migrated to Lagos , Nigeria with his colleagues to search for greener pastures. [2] [3] [4] [5]

After he returned to Ghana , in 1983, with other Ghanaians, from Nigeria due to the political tension in the country, he came with one chain-saw machine, but the machine was crushed by a falling tree on his first business trip. [1] He later started selling cassettes before he ventured into media company. Peace FM (Ghana) was the first radio and pioneering station which aimed at promoting Ghanaian culture. [1] The radio station used the Akan language which worked, as radio listeners preferred listening to the 104.3 frequency rather than to those who were broadcasting only in the Queen's language. [4]
