250 Words Essay on Unforgettable Day in My Life

The dawn of the unforgettable day.

Life is a succession of moments, each one unique and distinct. However, some days leave an indelible imprint on our minds, shaping our perspectives and lives. One such day in my life was a profound turning point, etched in my memory forever.

The Unanticipated Surprise

It was a seemingly ordinary day, but the postman brought an unexpected letter. The envelope bore the logo of a prestigious university, and my heart pounded as I tore it open. Inside was an acceptance letter for a scholarship to study at this esteemed institution. Overwhelmed with joy and disbelief, I felt the earth shift beneath my feet.

The Epiphany

This wasn’t just an acceptance letter; it was a testament to my hard work, perseverance, and dreams. It was a validation of my capabilities, a beacon of hope amidst uncertainties. This day taught me that dreams do come true if one is willing to strive relentlessly.

The Aftermath

The news spread like wildfire, and soon I was surrounded by family and friends, their faces mirroring my euphoria. The day culminated in a small, intimate celebration, the joy of which was magnified by the shared happiness of my loved ones.

500 Words Essay on Unforgettable Day in My Life

Life is a blend of moments, some memorable, some ordinary, and some unforgettable. An unforgettable day in my life was when I experienced the exhilarating thrill of paragliding for the first time. This day not only brought me an adrenaline rush but also instilled in me a fresh perspective on life.

Anticipation and Uncertainty

The day started with a blend of anticipation and uncertainty. The thought of soaring high in the sky, with the wind against my face, was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I had always been a bit of an adventure junkie, but paragliding was a step beyond my comfort zone. The sheer height at which the activity takes place was enough to make my heart pound. However, I was determined to overcome my fear.

The Leap of Faith

The moment arrived when I had to take the leap of faith. Strapped into the harness, I could see the vast expanse of the sky above and the ground below. The instructor’s words echoed in my ears, “Just run, and don’t stop until you’re in the air.” As I sprinted down the slope, the wind caught the parachute, and within moments, I was airborne. The initial fear was replaced by a sense of exhilaration. The world below seemed miniature, and the sky was a canvas of endless possibilities.

Epiphany in the Sky

The feeling of floating in the air, detached from the world, was an enlightening experience. It was a moment of epiphany where I realized that life is about pushing your boundaries and overcoming fears. The view from the top was breathtaking, and for the first time, I experienced a sense of liberation that I had never felt before. The world, with all its problems, seemed trivial from such great heights. It was a stark reminder of how small we are in this vast universe and how our worries are just a speck in the grand scheme of things.

As my feet touched the ground, I was a different person. The unforgettable day had changed my outlook on life. It taught me that fears are just mental blocks that hold us back from experiencing the true essence of life. The day also reminded me of the importance of living in the moment. The memory of soaring high in the sky, feeling the cool breeze against my face, and witnessing the world from a bird’s eye view is still fresh in my mind. It was indeed an unforgettable day, a day that taught me to live fearlessly and embrace life with open arms.

That’s it! I hope the essay helped you.

Memorable Day of My Life: 120 Words

Last month, our school arranged a trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The beauty of the Taj Mahal seemed to have no parallel.  It is made of white marble on the bank of the river Yamuna. The garden in front of it has tall cypress trees, colourful flowers, and rows of mountains. Many precious gems and stones are seen set on the tomb.

I found in the Taj Mahal the artistic and cultural heritage of India. Every stone of this building tells the story of the true love of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz. The white marble structure unrolled before me a new world of beauty. It is, indeed, matchless in beauty and grandeur. That’s why it is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. I was greatly charmed by its beauty. I felt breathless for a white. It was undoubtedly the most memorable day of my life.

As a kid, I used my toothbrush as the mike and treated my dolls as my audience.

I was enrolled in a vocal training course in an eminent singer’s singing class and from there, based on my performance I was selected to display my skills at the Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Initially, I was a bit nervous, but got over it soon when I heard the tune. My performance was well received and the audience acclaimed me with their applauds and kept yelling “once more”. A moment which is sweet lasts long in our memory. I distinctly remember the day. My H. S. examination was over and I was having a relaxed time. One day, after spending the afternoon with my friends, I returned home.

My parents were waiting for me. Sister also came running. She was carrying a big envelope in her hand. They all seemed to be very excited and their faces bore reflections of animated joy. My sister shouted that there was a good news for me in the envelope and she would not tell unless she got a heavy bakshis.

After much cajoling, I could get the letter. Lo and behold! It was the admission letter from the I.I.T, Kharagpur. My joy then knew no bounds, I did quite well in the joint entrance examination. But to get selected finally in the highly competitive all-India test was something none could be sure of. In fact, I was a little tense to know the result.

Parents blessed me for my success. Neighbours also came. They all congratulated me again and again. I was lost in golden dreams. At last, I was going to join an institution of international fame! It was the happiest and most memorable day in my life because my future career got a definite direction that day. But that happy day taught me a lesson, too. The most unforgettable moment in my life is when one day I was travelling from Jammu to Dehli by train. I was in the first class, so only a few passengers were there with me. At a specific station, all of them got off. I was now in the compartment absolutely alone.

After a moment, a clever lady walked into the compartment and sat next to me. She had an ingenious scheme to rob me. She told me she would report to the railway police that I had robbed her if I did not hand over all the money I had to her. I was totally and utterly perplexed when I heard this horrible voice. I made a plan to save myself from that lady’s wicked plan. Therefore, I pretended to be a deaf and a dumb fellow and asked her to write what she wanted to say on a piece of paper. She wrote her request happily on the piece of paper and handed it over to me. I changed my seat to pick up a piece of writing. The railway policeman came and asked what the matter was. As smart as she was, the women burst into admissions, so she said I had robbed her of a thousand rupees. He seemed to believe in her false story at first, but when I gave the piece of writing to the police, she turned pale. She was caught red-handed, so I saved myself from her evil scheme.

However, my family, teachers, and friends supported me at every step, providing me with the encouragement and resources I needed.

The process taught me the value of perseverance, time management, and the importance of practical application of theoretical knowledge. As I worked on my project, I delved into various scientific principles, learning more about solar and wind energy. I experimented with different models to demonstrate how these clean energy sources could be harnessed efficiently. This hands-on experience not only expanded my understanding of science but also highlighted the potential impact of sustainable practices on our environment.

The day of the exhibition was a flurry of excitement. Students from different classes displayed their projects, ranging from environmental solutions to innovative technological models. Telling Short, Memorable Stories From Your Life: ‘My Secret Pepsi Plot’

An invitation to students to tell a meaningful story in a limited number of words, with an example from The Times’s Lives column to help.

unforgettable day in my life short essay

By Katherine Schulten

Our new Mentor Text series spotlights writing from The Times that students can learn from and emulate.

This entry, like several others we are publishing, focuses on an essay from The Times’s long-running Lives column to consider skills prized in narrative writing. We are starting with this genre to help support students participating in our 2020 Personal Narrative Essay Contest .

Our Personal Narrative Essay Contest is inspired by The New York Times’s Lives column, which ran from 1996 to 2017 and featured “short, powerful stories about meaningful life experiences .”

The editor of the column once posted some advice on “How to Write a Lives Essay” to guide those who submitted to the column annually. Much of that advice applies to our contest as well.

For example, several points boil down to reminders to keep it simple, including tips like:

Don’t try to fit your whole life into one “Lives.”

Don’t try to tell the whole story.

Tell a small story — an evocative, particular moment.

Better to start from something very simple that you think is interesting (an incident, a person) and expand upon it, rather than a large idea that you then have to fit into a short essay. For example, start with “the day the Santa Claus in the mall asked me on a date” rather than “the state of affairs that is dating in an older age bracket.”

This advice is similar to advice often given to high school seniors writing college essays : You have only 650 words to show admissions officers something important, interesting or memorable about who you are and what matters to you. A list of awards you’ve won won’t do it, but an engaging story about making brownies with your stepbrother just might.

As you’ll see when you read the texts below, none of them try to tell the whole story of a life, but, instead, illuminate an important aspect of it through focus on one event or moment. Yet that one focus ripples out, and says so much more.

Before You Read

Use the sentence starter below to write for a few minutes about whatever comes to mind. You will return to this writing in the “Now Try This” section.

A moment I’ll never forget from my childhood is …

Mentor Text: ‘ My Secret Pepsi Plot ,’ a 2014 Essay From the Lives Column, by Boris Fishman

This essay describes a memory from when the writer was 10 years old and his family had just immigrated from the Soviet Union to Brooklyn. “In the Soviet Union, we were secretly wealthy, but we arrived in Brooklyn as paupers,” he writes.

Somehow, his family ends up with 24 Pepsi-Colas in their refrigerator. The story of what happens next is Mr. Fishman’s short, powerful story:

Around this time I learned that American supermarkets gave back 5 cents for every returned empty. (Some states, like Michigan, its very name like a granite monument, gave you 10 cents.) I decided I would return those cans and give the money to my parents. My secret — a surprise.

Read the essay, focusing on how Mr. Fishman anchors the whole story in this one goal he had at age 10 — to return the Pepsi cans and get money for them.

As you read, you might trace the structure of the story. What does each paragraph do? What does each add to the telling of this small story?

Then, consider these questions:

How do the first two paragraphs set the stage for the story and give some necessary background?

How does telling this story allow the writer to show readers a particular time and place through the eyes of a new immigrant?

How does he pull you into the action, minute by minute, in the three paragraphs that begin “On Saturday afternoon …”?

How is money a theme throughout, in both stated and implied ways? What other ideas recur?

What is the role of the last paragraph?

Now Try This: Find Your Own Short, Powerful Stories

Look back at the writing you did before reading the mentor text. What is strongest about it? Could it become a short essay like the one you just read? If so, what would you need to do to shape it?

What other small stories — or “evocative, particular moments” — from your life might make wonderful short essays?

In a 2010 lesson plan, “ Going Beyond Cliché: How to Write a Great College Essay ,” we suggest students first make a timeline of their lives, or of one period in their lives, brainstorming at least 20 events, big and small, that were significant to them for any reason.

You might try that, or you can brainstorm answers to this list of prompts — or both:

-A time I took a risk: -A time I learned something about myself: -A memory from childhood I think about often: -Something that happened to me that still makes me laugh: -Something very few people know about me: -Something I regret: -A time when I felt rejected: -Something I am really proud of: -Something that changed the way I think or look at the world: -How I am different from most people I know: -Some of my fears: -A time I felt truly satisfied: -A time I failed at something: -An object I own that tells a lot about me:

Once you’ve chosen a topic, you might try to free-write for 10 minutes or so, asking yourself as you go: What was most interesting or memorable about this? What images come to mind when you think about this topic? Do you picture a person, a scene, a place? Do you hear a conversation or a bit of music? Do you smell, taste or feel something?

Finally, if you are still stuck, we have a list of prompts from our site that can inspire narrative writing . Take a look and see if any of them spark ideas for you.

More Mentor Texts for Telling Short, Memorable Stories

While the entire Lives column is devoted to “short, powerful stories,” the pieces we chose below are especially student-friendly in terms of both their subject matter and the way the writers focus on “an evocative, particular moment.” Below each title, an excerpt from the piece.

“ How Ramen Got Me Through Adolescence ,” a 2014 Lives essay, by Veronique Greenwood

When I was in fifth grade, I developed an intense dislike of eating around other people. The cafeteria was a place of foul odors, gelatinous spills, horrific mixtures of chocolate pudding, fruit cocktail and ketchup consumed on dares, and I found myself fasting from breakfast, at about 6 in the morning, until 3:35, when I walked home through the woods from the bus stop. Each step up our hill, a narrow ridge in rural California, I fantasized about the big bowl of ramen I would make myself when I reached the top.

“ Charmed ," a 2015 Lives essay, by Laila Lalami

‘‘Wait,’’ I said. From my pocket I pulled out a brown suede pouch bearing the name of a little jeweler in Rabat, the kind of place you send your friends to and say, tell him I sent you. In the pouch was a necklace with a silver khamsa — a charm in the shape of an open palm.

“ Montana Soccer-Mom Moment ,” a 2010 essay from the Lives column, by Laura Munson

I live in northwest Montana, and I have a teenager, and my teenager plays sports. That means a lot of driving — over-the-Rocky-Mountains-and-back-in-one-day kind of driving. I think about Meriwether Lewis every time I cross the Continental Divide, usually with sleeping soccer players wearing headphones in the back of my Suburban. I want to say, “Can you imagine everything depending on your horse and your ability to dream of an ocean past the mountains?” But it isn’t worth the eye-rolling.

“ All the Single Ladies ," a 2014 essay from the Lives column, by Jen Doll

“Single ladies to the dance floor!” came the cry, a masculine voice urging us forward. Wedding guests parted, creating a narrow path for the train of unmarried women to parade through in their finery. But we single ladies no longer looked so fine as we had that morning. We were worn and tired, sweat beading down our necks, sand crunching unpleasantly in our shoes, which were wearing raw the backs of our heels. We should have been lying down in cool rooms elsewhere, but the wedding was not over. We were 28. We knew what was next.

“ Working the Reunion ,” a 2008 essay from the Lives column, by ZZ Packer

My residential college always hosted the 45th reunion, one of the most well attended, I suppose because you just might not be around for the 50th. To my eyes, these guys were the picture of old money. Although they may have mastered physics or appraised the sharp beauty of “King Lear” in school, at reunions they reminisced about football glories and practical jokes. I sometimes felt less like a Yale co-ed who happened to be black than a black waitress who happened to be bringing them an extra fork. But after their dinner we reunion workers would drink up all the leftover bottles of wine while cleaning the dining hall.

What do you learn about the writer and his or her world through this moment or event? How? What lines do this well? What is implied rather than stated?

How is the piece structured? What does each paragraph do? How does each contribute to the story?

Look closely at how the writer tells a complete story in a limited number of words. Where, in terms of time and place, does the story begin? Where does it end? How does the writer weave in necessary background even while keeping the action of the story moving forward?

Paragraph on My Unforgettable Day – by Rajan

unforgettable day in my life short essay

My unforgettable day happened in year 2010.

That day was full of terror, excitement, and thrill; and therefore I cannot forget that day throughout my life.

Many of us come across certain situations that make us laugh in the future. The same thing happened to me on 12, July 2010. I still remember the date and consequently it emphasizes the importance of that day in my life.

What happened?

It was rainy season. My parents needed to go to the near city for attending a marriage function. They decided to keep at home because I too should understand housekeeping in the absence of parents. I agreed on their thought with full confidence. This incidence made me completely alone at the home. Therefore, I got complete freedom to enjoy the cartoon shows on TV, computer, and many other fun activities. I saw outside the window of my house. It was heavily raining outside. Suddenly the electricity supply went off.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

I was scared a little but the words of my parents encouraged me to face the situation. Unexpectedly, I heard someone knocking the door of my house. I went near to the door and peeped through it. No one was there! I opened the door to make sure.

I have the habit of watching horror movies. This incidence created the thoughts of ghosts and evils in my mind. I felt that a ghost might be willing to enter in my house. I was completely shocked. I started praying to the god. I lit the candles in my room.

Again, I heard the knocking sound. But this time, I didn’t dare to open the door. Instead I preferred lying on the bed. I surrounded myself with blankets.

What was that!

The electricity supply started almost after one hour. I speedily turned the TV on and played devotional songs. I switched on the lights of all rooms. I am a little curious person who loves science. My curiosity brought me to check out the incidence. I went near to the door and opened it. I found that a small dog was standing outside the house. The dog was completely wet because of the rain. It was shivering with the cold and looking for the safe place.

I couldn’t stop my laugh initially. I realized my foolish nature. I took the dog inside my house and gave him some biscuits to eat. Besides this, I showered it in warm water. I decided to adopt that dog for my lifetime. Now, that dog is my dearest friend. I call it Tommy with love.

When my parents came back I dictated the whole incidence and they too couldn’t stop laughing. They were happy for my new pet. They accepted it as a family member.

Conclusion:

Thus, 12 July 2010 has become an unforgettable day of my life. This day has taught me a lesson in being courageous. It taught me that we must believe in the power of our Lord. He protects us in every hard situation. Besides this, I have learnt that we must show courage in the hard times.

“I am Running out of gas Mom and I’m late already”, I replied. That was the moment I got a feeling this day was about to get worse. I didn’t find a gas station. I looked at the clock, and it was 3:39 p. m. That was the ninth time I looked at the clock, and I knew that it was something I’d be doing until I got to work. I needed to get gas in my car because I knew I wouldn’t make it to work, and I also had to dropped my mother at my aunt’s home. Luckily, after I dropped my mom, I saw a gas station, and when I looked at the clock again, it was 3:44.

I was about to reach my work place, and I knew that if I

got gas then, I could still make it to work. I stopped and looked at the clock; it was 3:49. It was a race between me and time. I shut the car door very quickly and opened the gas pump. I filled my car’s tank with gas, and I was ready to go; but something had already gone wrong. When I tried to open the door, it wouldn’t open. “Oh! No! It is locked! How stupid of me,” I murmured. I thought the keys were in my pocket. I dug into my pocket, and the keys were not there. “Man! It can’t get any worse! ” I cried. I looked at the watch it was 4:00 p. m.

All of the rushing wasn’t worth it at this moment. That is what came into my mind. At

first, I called work to explain the situation. I dialed the number, and the operator picked up. “Please transfer my call to the manager. ” I said. My manager was on the phone. I explained everything to her. She felt sorry for me and told me, “Don’t worry, get the car unlocked and then come. Don’t rush. ” That was a relief. Now I had to get my car unlocked, but I didn’t know how.

I called my brother because I realized that the same situation happened to him and he might know how to get it unlocked. He came, and mocked me for my stupidity. He said in my own language, “You always do something wrong. ” I had a good comeback because he had been in my position a few months earlier. I replied, “You did the same thing when you too. ” Then he gave me the number of a car towing company who unlock cars as well. Honestly, I didn’t know they do that too. I dialed the number, and they didn’t answer first. I dialed the number again. “Hello”, the answer came from the other side of the phone.

Hey there, I have a situation. I locked my car and the keys are in the car. I am standing by a gas station by Dempster and McCormick,” I explained. “Okay, I’ll be there in 15 minutes and I charge $75. ” he said. Time was not the problem this time, but the amount he told me was way too much, and I am a bargaining person, but I knew it was not a good time to bargain, because

he was the one in the driver’s seat. While waiting for him, my brother said, “Take my car, I’ll get yours unlocked it, and take it to home. ” “No, I’ll take my own. “I refused his offer.

I was afraid because he had just bought a new car, and I just started driving. I don’t want anything bad to happen with his car. My brother was with his friend. He tapped my back and said “Good job man, well done. ” I had no comeback, because I knew everyone was on the driver’s seat except me but tried to say something back. “At least, I can drive and take myself to places, not like you begging everyone for a ride. ” That really shut him up. I looked behind and I saw the tow guy was here. He greeted me, my brother, and his goofy friend, who was still in shock by my reply.

The tow guy just made $75 in three and a half minute. He took my car’s information and my license information and left. I was ready to head to work. I realized that while driving to work the only thing that came into my mind was that I was in a hurry, but what happened at the end was that I was late anyway. My brother’s friend started again. “If I had $75 dollar I would go shopping. ” He said sarcastically. “You won’t shut up. ” I answered and we both started laughing. The lesson that this incident gave me was that being in a rush was not worth it.

I mean, what did I achieve?

I didn’t make it to work on time after all of this trouble. I wasted $75 for nothing. I was rushing and annoyed, didn’t eat anything at all. That day left an impact on my life as the worst day of my life. Now I have an experience to tell people and advise them not to rush; it can hurt you badly. I sometimes even laugh when I think about that day. If anybody wants to race time, no matter how fast they are we all know who will win, obviously time. So, the moral of the story is, “Rushing can only make things worse. ”

His work is a testament to his profound knowledge of the legal system and commitment to upholding ethical writing practices. So, this experienced paper writer is your top-tier pick!

How to write a narrative essay? This task has never been an easy task for students. The fact is that it requires showing off your experiences, life-changing moments, and outstanding events that had an impact on your personality. So, what is the main challenge of a narrative essay, and how to write it?

First, it is difficult to determine the moment you want to describe. Second, the writing process itself requires excellent skills and the ability to convey facts excitingly. Moreover, you need to understand the requirements and choose a suitable format. And all this is just the top of a glacier!

However, there is good news. I’m here to help! So, get ready to find the answers to the crucial questions about effective writing right here.

Let’s begin with identifying the core features of personal narratives. What do most successful academic papers have in common?

  • First-person perspective: The key feature of this type of paper is that it must be written in the first person. You need to write about yourself, not your favorite artists or teachers.
  • Engaging opening: Your essay must grab the readers' attention from its first lines.
  • Detailed descriptions: Each sentence matters. Don’t be afraid to add bright descriptions of the environment, mood, and other aspects that make your story unique.
  • Emotional resonance: Your essay should touch the hearts of the readers. Avoid composing a long monologue with a list of simple facts.
  • Clear goal: According to the narrative format rules, your paper must not be a biography or a story without a clear purpose. Make sure it has an easily recognizable goal.

Logical organization: Looking at most narrative essay examples, you will notice that they all have a logical flow.

When writing a narrative essay, you must follow the main rules of completing this academic assignment. To make your job easier, I developed this guide to cover all the questions and blind spots most students usually face. So, it’s high time to discover all the critical aspects of crafting an excellent paper.

What is a narrative essay: defining the concept

Before you jump into writing and exploring the main rules for this tricky academic paper, it is necessary to have a closer look at the basics. So, what is a narrative essay? The main thing you need to know about it is that it must be a unique story from the writer’s viewpoint. As a rule, it covers topics related to your experiences, events, and memories. However, your writing shouldn’t be a monotonous bunch of facts. Make sure to describe facts easily, interestingly, and engagingly.

Unlike other types of academic papers, a personal narrative puts storytelling first. You can also use the following elements to make your story catchier:

  • Diverse descriptions;
  • Chronological order.

Grasping the Fundamentals of Narrative Essays

You can effortlessly find many narrative essay examples online. However, you need to know that college and high school papers of this kind usually have some differences. Moreover, each one usually has a long list of requirements and unique features. Here is a list of what you should take into account when exploring the needs of narrative writing:

  • Essay structure;
  • Paper length;
  • Style of writing;
  • Rules for creating a thesis statement;
  • Requirements for the introduction;
  • Requirements for the body paragraphs;
  • Requirements for the conclusion.

Even experienced students often feel lost when facing this type of academic assignment. What is more, this challenge makes them ask one crucial question: “Is there anyone who can write my essay for me?”. This issue disturbs even the most talented and skilled students. Fortunately, there are professional writing services that are always ready to help. But if you still want to complete your assignment yourself, it’s time to choose a topic!

Top narrative essay topics for academic success

There are hundreds of narrative essay topics available online. Still, I highly recommend you develop your own. Feel free to use the tips below to identify your only idea.

  • Think of your experiences: This prompt might sound obvious. However, many students often start by looking for ideas online or asking artificial intelligence platforms to generate a list of possible solutions. But what about diving into your own memories?
  • Find out particular lessons: You surely have a particular experience that shaped your character. What about telling about it in your personal narrative?
  • Don’t think only about yourself: Your audience matters, too! Select an intriguing and relevant topic that will not make your readers yawn.
  • Make a list: Sometimes, you might invent a few personal narrative topics that look good. Write all your ideas down. The reason is that a chosen idea might suddenly turn out to be unsuitable when you start writing. For this case, you need a plan B (or even plan C).
  • Choose an uncommon angle: If you select a common topic, you must find a unique approach to describe it. Try to add some fresh ideas to your storytelling.
  • Test: If you can’t choose a topic between several alternatives, try to compare them. You can also draw a small draft for each to define narrative writing that will likely suit all your requirements and expectations.
  • Listen to your gut: Intuition works not only to teach important life lessons. It might help you with choosing a good topic, too.

Narrative essay examples

You may use dozens of literacy narrative topics and other solutions for your paper. Here is a list of some ideas for you:

  • A Moment of Courage: Overcoming a Fear That Changed My Life
  • Lost and Found: A Journey of Self-Discovery during Travel
  • The Day Everything Changed: A Personal Reflection on a Major Life Event
  • Lessons from Failure: How Setbacks Have Shaped My Character
  • An Unforgettable Friendship: The Story of a Lifelong Bond
  • From Dream to Reality: Pursuing a Passion against All Odds
  • The Power of Forgiveness: Healing Wounds and Moving Forward

Crafting an excellent narrative essay structure

After you’ve decided on a topic, it’s time to build a skeleton for your essay. Learners often have issues when creating their first narrative essay structure. Still, if you understand the basic elements of your paper, you will get almost half of the job done:

  • Plot: It is a sequence of events that organically come one after another in your story. Avoid jumping between facts from different parts of your paper.
  • Characters: Of course, you must be your story’s protagonist. However, don’t focus only on your personality. There should be other people, too.
  • Setting: This is a description of the environment where your story takes place. Pay more attention to this part, as it can spice up your narration.
  • Dialogs: Double-check whether all the dialogues add value to your personal narrative and are realistic.
  • Climax: This is the heart of your story. It is better to describe it with the highest tension and feature-rich facts.
  • Final: This is the resolution of your story. After you’ve reached a final thought, you can add a brief summary and end your paper.

Narrative essay outline: top prompts

Now that you know your paper's critical elements, it’s time for a narrative essay outline. As a rule, it must have a chronological order and traditional essay structure:

Introduction

  • Hook: Similar to many other academic papers, your narrative should have a hook and a good-looking opening sentence. Make sure your intro attracts attention and doesn’t look obvious or boring. A good introduction is one of the keys to receiving an excellent grade for your assignment.
  • Background: Here, you are expected to describe some settings, characters, and minor details to allow the readers to imagine your story better.
  • Thesis statement: Your thesis statement must briefly describe the main goal of your narrative writing.
  • Flow of events: Your paragraphs should be organized and chronological. Always follow your story’s timeline.
  • Dialogs: Although the traditional narrative essay format doesn’t require using dialogs, most students add them to their papers. This approach allows them to describe all the events and characters much easier.
  • Reflection: Remember that your essay must demonstrate your feelings and emotions.
  • Summary: Almost any academic paper requires a short and powerful summary. Personal narratives are not an exception to this rule.
  • Reflective end-up: Use your closing to connect with the thesis.
  • Impression: Try to leave an impression on the readers and make them think about your paper a few moments after you’ve finished it.

Types of narratives: learning from examples

There are several types of narratives you need to distinguish:

  • Personal: Focuses on a specific experience or event. It usually shares insights or lessons learned.
  • Descriptive: This one usually describes a scene or event with the help of diverse sensory details.
  • Autobiographical: This solution recounts the author's life story and highlights milestones, challenges, and achievements.
  • Travel: Documents the author's experiences and observations during traveling.
  • Historical: This narrative writing recounts significant historical events or periods from a personal perspective, blending historical facts with reflections.
  • Literary: Explores themes, characters, and motifs of a literary work or genre, offering personal interpretation.
  • Ethnographic: Draws on the author's observations within a cultural or social context, offering insights into individuals or communities.

The narrative essay definition for high school students is not difficult. Moreover, it’s the same for all learners. However, you are expected to tell a story about the most important lessons in your life and share something meaningful for you. It shouldn’t be only funny or entertaining. You may also describe how you’ve made mature choices and the right decisions (regardless of how tough they were.)

If you google “define narrative essay for college students,” you will find out that it is developed to demonstrate your best qualities through the description of a particular life event. Don’t hesitate to put your creativity into practice and use unique writing approaches. A few things most professors value in this type of academic paper created by college learners:

  • Your ability to be flexible and adapt to drastically changing life situations;
  • Your creative problem-solving skills;
  • Your ability to take lessons from the mistakes you’ve made.

How to write a narrative essay: tips to achieve top marks

  • Choose a compelling topic: What is the purpose of narrative writing? Make sure you find the answer and then select a meaningful topic.
  • Create a strong thesis: Develop a clear thesis statement that conveys your narrative's main message or lesson.
  • Use vivid descriptions: Engage the reader by incorporating sensory details and descriptive language to picture the events and characters vividly.
  • Establish a clear structure: When writing a narrative essay, organize it chronologically. Develop a clear beginning, middle, and end.
  • Maintain a consistent point of view: Stick to a consistent narrative perspective throughout the essay.
  • Include dialogue: Dialogs can bring your characters to life and add authenticity to your narrative.
  • Show, don't tell: Instead of simply stating events, you must show them through actions, emotions, and sensory experiences.
  • Reflect on significance: Reflect on the event's significance and share insights when writing a narrative essay.
  • Edit and revise: Don’t forget to revise your essay for clarity, coherence, and impact.
  • Seek feedback: Get feedback from peers, instructors, or mentors to improve your narrative.

And the answer is “Yes!” In this case, you will get a perfectly written, proofread, and original paper crafted according to all your requirements.

L.A. Influential is the story of Los Angeles in 2024

Los angeles is in constant flux. arranged into six categories, l.a. influential presents people of all ages, backgrounds and fields, who are making a difference. come back each sunday for more stories on the moguls, artists, community leaders and others shaping the city now..

It was 4 in the morning on a balmy weekday last summer as I walked toward City Hall to cover a labor strike .

I’ve seen the massive building up close during the day, from the 101 Freeway at night, on film and television numerous times, and it never fails to impress. Thirty-two stories tall, always gleaming, tapered at the peak like one of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World, built with sand from all of California’s 58 counties, and water from the 21 Spanish missions.

L.A. Influential logo

Discover the change-makers who are shaping every cultural corner of Los Angeles. This week we bring you The Creators, who are leaving their mark in film, art, music and more. Come back each Sunday for another installment.

It was erected to show off the “new era of progress and accomplishment” that Los Angeles represented, according to this paper when City Hall was officially dedicated in 1928 with a parade, speeches and all sorts of pomp.

It was also meant as a flex, and a promise: Behold L.A.’s power, and the influence we will soon have over the world.

City Hall shone especially bright in the early hours when I went to cover the one-day work stoppage, a beacon as I walked through the dimly lit streets of downtown. The structure stood as memory and manifestation to the boast city leaders offered to the world 96 years ago. But all around me, L.A.’s influence played out in ways that they would’ve never imagined.

People were sleeping in tents and sleeping bags on the sidewalk and in front of tower doors. I passed the former headquarters of The Times — the longtime tastemaker of the West, now located in El Segundo. A man in a skullcap knelt next to a bench and prayed in Arabic. Police cars drove by; buses rumbled in the distance. Men and women put in their daily runs and bike rides. News vans parked across the City Hall steps next to Gloria Molina Grand Park, named after the late Chicana political powerhouse.

Los Angeles City Hall

City Hall is a gorgeous place, but it’s just granite and concrete without the people who make L.A. happen.

I’ve thought about that day many times since. I saw the city at its best — and at its most vexing. Glamorous and struggling. Fearful. Hopeful. Influential nationally and internationally in every single way, for better and worse.

It’s in that spirit that The Times launches L.A. Influential, in which we profile the people shaping the contours of the city right now. Through photos, essays, stories, videos and more, it’s a roster of who makes L.A. tick, at a moment everyone knows represents a change for the city — even if none of us know exactly where we’re going.

Historically, influence in Los Angeles was an easy proposition: Those who had power used it at the expense of everyone else.

Through conquest and racism, hustle and corruption, brute force and unfair laws, and money above all, the city was a playground for our potentates for over a century, at the expense of too many residents. Surnames such as Chandler and Mulholland, Broad and O’Malley dominated civic and political life to imagine and build an L.A. that now seems like a long-ago dream.

Since the 1992 riots, a new philosophy has taken hold in L.A. as the population diversified and the old guard largely high-tailed it out of here: Influence can come from anywhere, and woe to those who don’t realize that.

That reality is reflected in L.A. Influential.

EL SEGUNDO-CA-DECEMBER 7, 2023: Magic Johnson is photographed at the Los Angeles Times in El Segundo on December 7, 2023. DO NOT PUBLISH. FOR THE POWER LIST PROJECT ONLY. (Christina House / Los Angeles Times)

L.A. Influential is a snapshot of a city at this moment. Among the names on the list are, clockwise from top left, businessman and former Laker Earvin “Magic” Johnson, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and actor Cheech Marin.

What does influence even mean anymore in Los Angeles when anyone with a social media account can amass a following of hundreds of thousands? Is it the people who are in charge of how the city runs — the politicians, the bureaucrats, the nonprofit leaders? Is it the individuals who tell us what to view, read, listen to and eat? The folks who work behind the scenes that few know about but who are legends in their world? Those who have huge influence outside Southern California but wouldn’t even be recognized at the In-N-Out drive-through?

This leveling is a good thing. It forces the multitudinous nodes in this famously fragmented metropolis to work together if anyone wants anything done.

In reporting on these subjects, we met them in boardrooms or at protests, talked over the phone or via Zoom, spent an hour with them or months. Their stories are accompanied with portraits shot in studios or in the field by Times Pulitzer-Prize-winning photographer Christina House. We’ll be publishing these 101 profiles over the course of six Sundays, by category — the Creators, the Connectors, the Money, the Civic Center, the Disruptors and the Establishment.

There are the obvious choices — and many more surprises. You’ll find elected officials and fishmongers. Movie stars alongside social media upstarts. Philanthropic giants whose grants improve life for millions of Angelenos, and tech bros. Sports. Music. Fashion. Quiet influence. Loud. People who you don’t think deserve to be noted here and people you couldn’t imagine Los Angeles without.

Artist Mark Bradford, left, and Zapotec advocate Odilia Romero

Influence can come from anywhere, and woe to those who don’t realize that. Artist Mark Bradford, left, and Zapotec advocate Odilia Romero are two others on The Times’ L.A. Influential list.

We know that there can never be a perfect L.A. Influential. The demographic makeup of this compilation doesn’t even approach how L.A. looks. Forty-seven percent of the people on this list, for instance, are white; 22% identify as Black; 18% are Latino; 16% are Asian. Several individuals are of Middle Eastern descent, and one person is Indigenous.

Criticize, praise or debate this selection — we welcome it all. But these numbers are valuable, too: They reflect how influence has historically worked in the city, the ramifications of that legacy — and where it’s going.

Above all, L.A. Influential is a snapshot of a city at this moment. Because influence changes. When City Hall debuted, the lords of L.A. were concentrated in downtown and were nearly all white. By the 1960s, influence was shifting to the Westside, and an alliance of Black, Latino and Jewish activists was laying the groundwork for the multicultural coalitions — sometimes fraught, sometimes not — that have defined L.A. ever since. Who holds influence changes so much that The Times did a similar project in 2006 , and there is very little crossover between that list and this one. In 15 years, maybe even five, you can expect the same.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass

That’s a good thing. Los Angeles is at its best when the people who shape us make way for the next generation, when there are people who want to right the wrongs of the past as they try to build a better future. The people you’re about to read up on know it’s the only way to live in the city of the eternal future.
