I live in the state of Washington and I was homeschooled, but I did an online program through a school outside of the state of Washington. Am I still eligible to apply?

If you completed an online program outside of Washington, you are eligible to apply if you filed an “intent to homeschool” or “copy of the declaration” with your local Washington state school district. Maine is the most common online program. You will be required to submit a copy of your “intent to homeschool” or “copy of the declaration” in addition to an official copy of your transcript.

Can I apply for this scholarship if I’m not planning to enroll full time?

The intent of the Governors’ Scholarship is to fund students who will be enrolling full time (12+ credits) each term to complete their college degree within five years. If you are selected, we strongly recommend that you enroll full time each term. If you are selected and you do not enroll full time, please contact CSF for options. Students who are enrolled less than full time at the time of application are eligible to apply, as long as they are planning to enroll full time the following term.

Will I still be able to receive the scholarship if I transfer to another college or attend a different college than I originally reported on my application?

Yes. When students are selected in April, they will be asked to verify the colleges or universities they will be attending in fall. You can update your college at that time. If students who have been selected choose to attend a different eligible Washington college or university on a full-time basis and continue to meet all other program requirements, they will be eligible to have future scholarship disbursements sent to their new colleges. Please see the list of eligible Washington state colleges and universities you may attend and still receive the funds if selected.

May I major in more than one degree and still be eligible for the scholarship?

If you are enrolled in two degrees concurrently, you will only receive payment for study in one of your majors.

I lived with my grandparent(s), other family member or family friend, but they did not receive a court order naming them guardian. Can I still apply?

No. You must have been in a court-ordered placement naming your current care provider as official guardian in order to be considered eligible for the Governors’ Scholarship. Please see eligibility criteria for further information.

I was/have been adopted. Am I still eligible to apply?

No. Even if you spent years in court-ordered foster care, once you were adopted, you are no longer eligible to apply for the Governors’ Scholarship.

I don’t have a copy of my most recent court order. How do I prove I am in court ordered foster care/dependency guardianship/guardianship?

In order for your application to be considered, you MUST provide a copy of your most recent court order showing your official placement. If you do not have a copy of this, you can contact your social worker (if you have one), or you may contact the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) for a copy. Please contact DSHS at (800) 723-4831 toll-free. Please note that only official court documents will be accepted. “Dependent/Ward of the Court” Verification Letters from DSHS will NOT be sufficient.

I have been in foster care for x number of years, but I recently was placed back at home with my biological parent(s). Can I still apply?

Applicants are NOT eligible to apply if they have returned to live with their parents before turning 18 (regardless of whether the court continued to remain involved). You are also NOT eligible if your dependency court order has been dismissed.

Application

I am a Running Start student. Should I complete the application as a college or a high school student?

If you are a Running Start student, please complete the application as a high school senior, since you have not yet graduated from high school. When submitting your transcript, please request your unofficial high school transcript, and make sure your Running Start courses are included.

I am not sure what college I will be attending in the fall. What college should I put on the application?

If you have applied to more than one college, you may not know by the application deadline which college you will be attending in the fall. If you are still deciding which college you’ll be attending, please complete the application with your current first choice college. Students who are selected to receive the scholarship will be asked to complete an online scholarship acceptance form in May; at that time, you will be able to confirm the college you will be attending.

I have AP and/or IB courses. Are those courses counted towards my class level?

Once you are in college and your college accepts your AP and/or IB courses as part of your degree program, then you will count those AP and/or IB credits to determine your class level. Generally the college lists the credits they have accepted on your transcript.

How can I update information on my application once it has been submitted?

Once you have submitted your application, you cannot make corrections or provide updates through the online application portal. If you need to update the information you provided, please email the corrections or changes to us . Be sure to include in your email your full name, date of birth, preferred phone number, and school or college you have last attended.

How will recipients be selected?

College Success Foundation (CSF), as program administrator, will make selection decisions based on information provided by students in their applications. Selection decisions may be made using a variety of factors provided in the applications, such as:

Student grade point average (GPA) at the time of application
Scored essay questions
Scored recommender form and letter

I don’t meet all of the criteria to apply this year but think I may next year. Can I re-apply then?

Yes, you may apply next year again.

May I apply for more than one scholarship administered by College Success Foundation (CSF)?

Yes, you may apply for more than one scholarship administered by CSF.

How many years can I receive the scholarship?

The length of time you are eligible to receive scholarship funding will depend on the length and amount stipulated in the Selection Award Notification that is emailed to you. If selected, please retain a copy of this email to refer to. The typical length of time you may receive your scholarship funds is up to 5 years (15 quarters/10 semesters).

How much can I receive from the scholarship each year?

The amount of the scholarship you receive each year will depend on the type of college you attend:

two-year community/technical college: $2,000 per year
four-year public college: $3,000 per year
four-year private college: $4,000 per year

Disbursement

When is my check going to be mailed?

Your check is cut the day listed in the “Payment Information” section of this site. You can also check a customized email sent to you in July confirming your school of attendance, disbursement amounts and disbursement dates of your scholarship.

I don’t see my scholarship check applied to my account. What can I do?

We recommend you give it 10 business days for the check to arrive in the mail at your school and for your school to apply your funds to your account. If after 10 business days from the date published in the “Payment Information” section you contact your financial aid office and they tell you they haven’t received your scholarship, please contact us so that we can cancel that check and issue a new one.

How will my dollar amount award be disbursed?

Awards are divided in equal amounts per academic term based on the number of credits you are enrolled. We assume fulltime enrollment unless you or your school let us know otherwise. We cannot disburse full year awards in just one term.

ALL Governors’ Scholars must complete the end of year form and donor update each spring to let us know whether or not you will be renewing the scholarship for the following academic year.

In the form, you will be able to indicate to us whether:

You have graduated ; OR
You are not renewing the scholarship because you no longer meet the renewal criteria.

If you are graduating or not planning to renew, please complete the end of year form to formally decline the scholarship.

You are not required to enroll summer term. However, if you are considering enrolling in summer and would like to inquire about available funding, please contact the Scholarship Services team . If you have extenuating circumstances that require you to take a term off, please contact us .
You must continue to pursue an associate or bachelor’s degree.
Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policies.
File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) by November 1 every year.
Demonstrate financial need as defined and determined by your financial aid office. CSF reserves the right to review your financial aid needs and your scholarship may be forfeited if that need is fully met through other resources.

Watch for emails from us: You may receive requests to attend events or participate in media activities. If so, we hope you will participate. You can also serve as a role model or mentor to other students. If you miss an email from us, please check your spam settings—be sure to add [email protected] as an approved sender if needed.

How You Will Receive the Scholarship

We will email you in August to confirm that your funding will be sent, the name of your college, and the amount you’ve been awarded per term.

Funds can be used for tuition, fees, housing, food, books, transportation and personal expenses as detailed in the cost of attendance.

Your scholarship check will be sent directly to the financial aid office at your college following this schedule:

Please allow processing time for the college/university to apply the scholarship to your student account and revise your financial aid. In some cases, the funds may not be applied to your account until after the start of the term. Please follow up with your college/university’s financial aid office to determine when the scholarship payment will be applied to your account.

Your scholarship will be divided equally over the number of terms of enrollment at your college/university. To receive the funds, you must be enrolled full-time and meet your college’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.

If you are not enrolled full-time at the start of the term, your scholarship funding will be delayed until the matter has been resolved. Generally, Governors’ Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time each term in order to receive your funding. As a general rule, when students do not enroll full-time, their award is prorated to reflect their enrollment status. However, if you are planning to enroll in less than 12 credits for a term, please contact us .

The Brazilian cerrado comprises a diverse vegetation gradient with soils of different physicochemical properties. Previous studies have reported that these different physicochemical properties influence the responses of soil microbial properties. The pile-dwelling sites around Lake Garda in northern Italy, datable primarily to Early Bronze Age, provide important information regarding the spinning and weaving of linen and other vegetable fibres. In these settlements, not only tools for textile production in clay, bone-antler and wood, but also fragments of fabrics were found. In addition to the Trentino site of Ledro, already known for numerous fragments of linen fabric, the site of Lucone di Polpenazze is taking on considerable importance thanks to the new excavations underway since 2007. Various settlements have been identified in the inframorenic basin of the Lucone. To Lucone A, excavated from 1965 to 1971, which had already yielded various interesting materials, including numerous textile fragments, now has been added Lucone D, where numerous fragments of fabric, a spool with wound thread and various tools for spinning and weaving have been found. This paper summarises the preliminary analysis of spindle whorls, loom weights, some of the linen textile fragments and the thread preserved on a spool, which attests the intermediate stage of splicing at Lucone.

Este breve ensayo confronta los temas existenciales del conocimiento versus la ignorancia, la sed del saber con su contraparte ilusoria, el sujeto pensante frente a las cuestiones de los límites del conocimiento, de las contradicciones que lo gobiernan y de la inmutabilidad de la naturaleza. Para resaltar estos temas he optado poner en comparación un romance filosófico de Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz titulado “Acusa la hidropesía de mucha ciencia, que teme inútil, aun para saber, y nociva para vivir” con un canto, “La retama o la flor del desierto”, de Giacomo Leopardi. Se analizarán estas dos expresiones literarias ricas de temas comunes para demostrar que, a pesar de que se trata de escritores que pertenecen a diferentes periodos y lugares geográficos, es posible establecer puentes en su escritura por medio de los motivos del desengaño universal, el contemptus mundi, el tempus fugit, el memento mori y las vanitas. Based on the information you’ve collected from your research, you can now start writing your LOI. Complete the letterhead by writing essential information about the recipient (i.e., name, position, institution, address, etc.).

Afterward, write a formal salutation to the letter’s addressee. You may use words such as “Dear …”, “Greetings…”, and so on.

Let’s now write the letter’s body. The first paragraph must include your name and current educational attainment. If you’ve graduated recently and are enrolling in a new school, you must state your alma mater.

The most crucial part of the introduction is your statement of intent, so you must clearly state it. However, most institutions offer a variety of scholarship grants, so you need to specify which of those you want to apply for.

In the example above, the sender specified that he wants to apply for the “President Scholarship Fund.” Note that he didn’t just write that he wants to apply for a scholarship (which sounds too broad).

You may also indicate how you’ve learned about this scholarship (although this is optional).

It depends on how many paragraphs you allot for this step. The purpose of this section is to convince the reader that you’re qualified to become their scholar.

However, make this portion concise and straightforward. In the letter above, the sender just provides an overview of his academic qualifications and extra-curricular experiences. In the succeeding paragraph, the sender mentioned his economic conditions, which is another reason he deserves the grant.

For your LOI’s last paragraph, thank the recipient for giving you a chance to apply for their scholarship.

Close your letter by affixing your signature and indicating your contact details.

Make it short and sweet. If possible, keep the letter one page long only. No need to use highfalutin words or lengthy sentences.
Don’t forget to proofread. To avoid delays in the processing of your scholarship application, check the accuracy of the information indicated in the letter, such as the recipient’s name, address, institution, and so on.

FIRST ON FOX : Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, R-Ark., blasted the Biden administration's "unconstitutional" student loan handout and "functionally nonoperational" revisions to the college financial aid application process ahead of a top official's trip to Arkansas.

In a fiery letter sent to Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona Tuesday, the Republican Governor charged that the Biden administration's "gleeful disregard for our nation's highest court should appall every American."

Biden has made various attempts to forgive student loans throughout his presidency, most recently proposing the cancelation of student debt for more than 30 million Americans which Sanders called out in her letter, which was first obtained by Fox News Digital.

"The Biden Administration's forgiveness of certain student loans is unfair, unwise, and unlawful. Not only does it force Arkansans who chose not to attend college to pay for others' education, not only does it offer forgiveness for past loans with no plan to address the future growth of college tuition expenses, but it has also been declared unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court," Sanders wrote. "This administration's gleeful disregard for our nation's highest court should appall every American."

Sanders also expressed being "deeply concerned" by the administration's handling of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), after the department revised the application process for students.

Students have reportedly had issues using the new FAFSA application, and due to delays with the new process, some have even postponed their college decisions as they wait to find out whether they will receive financial aid.

"Students, particularly from low-income families, need answers. State government needs clarity," Sanders said. "Currently, we are ‘conditionally awarding’ scholarships to ensure students know we intend to fund their state scholarship awards. If these issues continue, though, we will be forced to pull state dollars from other sources to ensure scholarships are funded."

US STUDENTS ARE PUTTING OFF COLLEGE DECISIONS DUE TO DELAY IN FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS

Cardona recently said he will work to shut down Grand Canyon University (GCU), the largest Christian university in America, over claims the college failed to accurately disclose its cost to students.

GCU called the comments "disturbing and defamatory," and Sanders highlighted the move as an example of the department being "a constant source of frustration for Americans and Arkansans."

"Your department is a constant source of frustration for Americans and Arkansans. You've promised to shut down the nation's largest Christian university. You oppose education freedom. You attack parents who speak up for their children's education at school board meetings," the Republican governor wrote.

"The botched FAFSA update, the unlawful student debt forgiveness program, and so much more have created a mess," she said. "I hope your visit to Arkansas offers more than just empty words for struggling Arkansans."

When asked about Sanders' letter, a spokesperson from the education department told Fox News Digital that "Secretary Cardona is unapologetically committed to delivering for students and families."

"Today, he will meet with just some of the 7,760 hard working public servants in Arkansas who have had over $541.1 million in loans forgiven under a bipartisan program that was broken before the Biden-Harris Administration acted," the spokesperson said in a statement to Fox.

"And, he will participate in a clinic to encourage high school students to complete and submit the Better FAFSA to help unlock access to as much as $7,395 in federal aid. We would welcome the Governor’s participation in either event so she can see firsthand how this Department is putting people over politics to deliver results," the department added.

Financial aid reform was his legacy. Now, Lamar Alexander calls it ‘a big mess’

In a new interview, the retired senator criticized the rollout of a new federal student aid application.

The turbulent rollout of a new federal financial aid application could mean thousands of low-income students miss out on college this fall.

But one person feels especially perturbed by the botched implementation of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.

Lamar Alexander — former governor of Tennessee, U.S. education secretary and Republican leader of the Senate education committee — thought the FAFSA Simplification Act would be his legacy.

He was so bound up with the quest to streamline the process that he became known for unfurling the 108-question paper form at news conferences.

"There are not many things that happen in Washington, D.C., that really improve the lives of 20 million American families every year," he told The 74 last week. "This did, and once they implement it properly, it will be a great relief to these families."

But the string of delays and errors mean that three months after the rollout, some high school seniors still don't know if they'll be able to afford college.

"I'm very disappointed with it," he said. "If they spent more time figuring out how to implement FAFSA and less time forgiving student loans, they might have done better."

Alexander, 83, served as governor of Tennessee from 1979 to 1987 and then as president of the University of Tennessee until President George H. W. Bush appointed him as education secretary. But he said it wasn't until he was in the Senate that he understood how much of a barrier the form was to some students getting into and completing college.

In a brief interview, Alexander discussed how he would have handled the rollout differently, his ongoing work advocating for higher education in Tennessee and writing his political memoirs.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Q: For readers who don't know the history, why was simplifying the FAFSA so important to you?

A: In 2005, the third year I was a senator, a group of college presidents from Tennessee came to see me and explained that the complexity of the 108-question form was the single biggest obstacle to low-income students going to college. It was difficult to fill out and many low-income students needed to get their grandmother's tax returns. Maybe she didn't have them or didn't want to give them. They talked about the verification process, which means that if you made a mistake on the form you might lose your Pell Grant in the middle of your first semester. I was too junior at that time to do much about it, but 10 years later when I became the ranking Republican on the education committee, I got busy on it.

As time went on, Gov. Bill Haslam in Tennessee signed a law offering two years of free tuition for community colleges. Filling out the FAFSA was the single biggest obstacle to two years of free tuition for Tennesseans going to college. When I had a hearing on it — I can still remember the day — we had witnesses from many different points of view, and I asked four witnesses to write a letter each explaining what they would do. They looked at each other and said, "We don't have to write four letters. We can write one. We all agree."

Q: Did your frustration with the process begin when you were a university president?

A: I didn't pay that much attention. I didn't really see the size of the problem. I didn't know it affected 20 million families every year. What people forget is, you have to fill this out every year, and it's easy to make a mistake. That means it's easy to lose your scholarship.

Q: How much have you paid attention to the chaos that has unfolded over the past few months?

A: I hear about it first hand — the problems it's causing right now with admissions officers who are having a hard time telling families how much financial aid they'll receive and families who are having a hard time deciding what school they can attend. I'm hearing a lot about it, not so much from the news.

There's really no excuse for it. The problem is not the law. The law was thoroughly vetted.

Q: If you were still leading the department, how do you think you would have handled the implementation?

A: If McDonald's has a new hamburger, they don't roll it out to the whole country. They test it in a few markets, sometimes for a long time. This is too important to 20 million families just to throw a big mess out to them. That would have been the wise thing to do, to say, "OK, we're going to gradually begin to implement this, and we're going to test it and make sure it works. And then within a year or two more, we'll make it available to all 20 million families."

I'm very disappointed with it. If they spent more time figuring out how to implement FAFSA and less time forgiving student loans , they might have done better.

Q: Do you miss being in the U.S. Senate?

A: I miss my friends, but I had 18 years. That's long enough, and I've moved on to other things.

When I was in the Senate, I would tell people, "It's hard to get here. It's hard to stay here, and while you're here you might as well try to accomplish something. And you can't accomplish anything in the Senate unless you get 60 votes." I learned how to count in the Maryville City Schools. So you have to work across the aisle if you want to get a result. There's no reason to run if all you want to do is make a speech. You can do that at home.

Q: How are you spending your time now?

A: I'm on the Vanderbilt University Board of Trust . Number two, I'm helping the University of Tennessee create the Howard Baker School of Public Policy , which was just officially dedicated. And number three, I'm helping Maryville College, in my hometown, create a new science center . It will have an environmental education program, which fits. We're right in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, which is one of the most biodiverse places in the world. I've gotten drawn back into higher education without trying.

I'm also writing a memoir. I'm about finished with that. I kept a diary, so there are lots of interesting stories, interesting people, lots of things that I got to work on that didn't make much news — like fixing FAFSA — but helped a lot of people.

Governor says newly signed school scholarship law is about giving ‘choice in education’

G ov. Brian Kemp signed a bill into law Tuesday essentially creating private school scholarships for children in underperforming public schools.

But opponents insist this is just a school voucher law and will ultimately hurt the public schools all across Georgia.

State Republicans have tried for years to get this kind of school voucher bill passed. It did this session with the governor’s help. They’re calling it a win for parents and students.

Opponents are saying tax dollars should be used for public education, not private education.

The Georgia Promise Scholarship Act creates a $6,500 scholarship for children in low-performing public schools who want to get a private school education.

The governor told Channel 2′s Richard Elliot that the new law is about giving parents a choice.

“Really helping our kids in failing schools is what it’s all about, making sure we have choice in education,” Kemp said.

But criticism of the new law came quick.

Georgia Association of Educators president Lisa Morgan told Elliot that she doesn’t believe taxpayer money should be used for private schools.

The short session begins on april 24 and is projected to last until early july.

North Carolina’s legislators will soon be flooding into the state’s capital city for their short session, which will begin on April 24 and is projected to last through July.

During odd years, the General Assembly meets for a full regular session, whereas in even numbered years, they meet for a shorter session.

Although the budget has not yet been solidified and there are no set-in-stone orders of business, a spokesperson for Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Guilford, Rockingham) said the session will “primarily focus on making any necessary adjustments to the two-year state budget passed last year.”

They could also take up the issues of immigration, video lottery terminals and education. The jury is still out on whether any abortion-related legislation will make it to the floor this spring and summer.

Being that it is an election year, legislation may be affected, said House Democratic Leader Robert Reives (D-Chatham, Randolph).

“I think the elections always affect what is done in the short session, unfortunately,” Reives said. “The needs of the people don’t change, but the needs of those who want to get elected do sometimes.”

Here’s a breakdown of what to look out for this session.

1. Education

Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland, Rutherford) said an increase in funding for the Opportunity Scholarship is likely to happen. This year, around 72,000 North Carolinians applied, a number the program was unable to fully fund. To bridge this gap, they would need about a $300 million increase.

Moore said he is unsure if the entirety of that request will be fulfilled, but that the number of applicants this year has shown the demand for it.

Some Democratic legislators are worried that increasing funding for private school vouchers will leave a teacher pay raise on the wayside. Moore disagreed, saying “I think there’s still money there to make sure we take care of our teachers.”

He also noted that an expansion of childcare funding is a priority.

Also on the education front, there is talk about defunding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs. This would primarily be an issue at the university level.

“There’s no big push to immediately do something,” Moore said, hinting that this issue may take more time to flesh out.

2. Immigration

Immigration has become a hot topic this election season with both Joe Biden and Donald Trump making trips to the border. And although North Carolina is not a border state, the General Assembly is looking at enforcing some new immigration-related legislation.

For example, House Bill 10 , which has passed in the House and would require police officers to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), could make its way to the Senate this session.

Many Democratic legislators in the minority party expressed disappointment that immigration will take center stage this session.

3. Video Lottery Terminals

With a recent decrease in corporate taxes, Democratic legislators are concerned about the potential revenue gap that could erupt in the coming years.

“We’ve cut taxes the last several budgets, with plans on continuing to cut personal income taxes and then phasing out the corporate income tax by the end of the decade,” said Rep. Charles Smith (D-Cumberland). "What type of revenue are we going to be looking at moving forward when we don't have those federal dollars?”

Video lottery terminals could be a way to fill that gap.

But Moore insisted that legislation made about video lottery terminals, and similar things, should go through a normal committee process.

"The big complaint last year that folks had with the gaming legislation was the way it was just kind of being jammed in with not much discussion,” Moore said. “And frankly, I think those criticisms were fair. I didn’t like that process.”

4. Abortion

It's still unclear whether further abortion legislation will come up this spring and summer. Some say pushing for a tighter ban during an election year could be risky; others say the Republican party has the numbers to make it happen.

In May 2023, the General Assembly passed a 12-week abortion ban after bypassing the governor’s veto. Some Republicans hope to keep tightening the ban over time.

In remarks to journalists, Moore said it’s unlikely that this would happen in the short session.

5. Medical Marijuana

In the last session, Senate Bill 3, sponsored by Sen. Bill Rabon (R-Brunswick), passed the Senate, but was not taken up by the House. It is unclear whether this bill will resurface, but Democratic Sen. Julie Mayfield (D-Buncombe) said she hopes it does.

From the minority

Rep. Lindsey Prather (D-Buncombe) said she wishes the General Assembly was taking up issues that affected constituents' day-to-day life. Similar sentiments were echoed by several other Democratic legislators.

"I would rather be talking about, you know, how to protect the environment,” Prather said. “I would rather be talking about how to get the word out to people and help people sign up for Medicaid expansion. I would rather be working with community col
