Assessment of Quality management practices in construction projects: the case of AACRA

This study was mainly set out with a general purpose to assess the quality management practices and major quality management challenges in road construction projects at AACRA. To achieve its objective, the study employed both descriptive and explanatory research and both primary and secondary data were used. Questionnaires, interview, and document review were, therefore, used as data collection tools. Furthermore, it employed purposive sampling techniques to draw its samples. The survey questionnaire was designed based on the literature and on the information collected through the document review of the project. The survey questionnaire was distributed to 60 project implementation team members who were selected purposively among them 55 respondents were responded, which represented a response rate of 91.67%. In Malaysia, construction industry plays an important role in benefitting towards the development of country's economy as well as providing the necessary infrastructure and enhanced facilities for social comfort. Despite these contributions, this thriving industry is responsible for generating an excessive amount of construction waste and numerous cases on delaying which then tarnish the reputation of the company. Therefore, this study evaluates the factors affecting the implementation of quality management system practices in construction project through the application of structured questionnaire and case study of high rise construction project to come out with a structured framework that can enhance the quality management system in construction project. The statistical techniques used to evaluate the data obtained are relative importance index (RII) and Average Index (AVI), while cronbach's alpha is used to measure the significant between three different groups of respondents, the reliability and validity of the study.

Quality is one of the critical factors in the success of construction projects. The level of success of construction industry greatly depends on the quality performance. This research is carried out to scrutinize the factors that have adverse effect on the construction projects. A questionnaire was developed based on identified factors that are taken based on literatures to take opinion from construction experts. The construction experts who have given their responses are engineers and the site supervisors. After their feedback a statistical analysis tool has been used to analyse the responses collected from the construction experts.
