ETDs: Virginia Tech Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Virginia Tech has been a world leader in electronic theses and dissertation initiatives for more than 20 years. On January 1, 1997, Virginia Tech was the first university to require electronic submission of theses and dissertations (ETDs). Ever since then, Virginia Tech graduate students have been able to prepare, submit, review, and publish their theses and dissertations online and to append digital media such as images, data, audio, and video.

University Libraries staff are currently digitizing thousands of pre-1997 theses and dissertations and loading them into VTechWorks. Most of these theses and dissertations are fully available to the public, but we will, in general, honor requests by the item's author to restrict access to Virginia Tech only. See our process for Requesting that Material be Amended or Removed .

To search all Virginia Tech print and digital theses and dissertations, use the University Libraries ETD resource guide .

Materials that are restricted to Virginia Tech only may be requested via your own university or public library's Interlibrary Loan program or through the VTechWorks request form that appears when you try to access the item. You might also be able to obtain a copy of the work through ProQuest's database of theses and dissertations. If you are on a Virginia Tech campus but are unable to find the pre-1997 thesis or dissertation you are seeking in VTechWorks, you may also be able to order a physical copy from library storage. Please check the library catalog at http://www.lib.vt.edu/ for physical copies.

• KCET 2024 Seat matrix will be released on Sept 08.  Candidates can pay the caution deposit and rearrange their options till further instructions. Furthermore, the KCET Round 2 Seat Allotment Results will be declared shortly on the official website @cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/ugcet2024. 
• Karnataka PGCET 2024 M.Tech exam date has been announced. KEA will conduct the  Karnataka PGCET on September 18.  The admit card will be available on September 11 on the official website @ cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/pgcet24.
• Karnataka PGCET 2024 MCA exam has concluded successfully on August 4 and the final answer key has been released on August 16. The result is expected shortly to offer MCA Admission 2024 at  Visvesvaraya Technological University - [VTU].

VTU PhD admissions 2023 will be opening soon. The notification is expected to be out by January 2023. The application mode for the program will be online. The opening date for application form is expected to be February 2023. Admission to this program is granted based on the research entrance test which will tentatively be held in March/April 2023. The results of the entrance test will be displayed by June 2023.

VTU offers a full-time PhD program in 9 specializations. The duration of the program is 3-5 years. Candidates need to appear for VTU ULRAT[University Level Research Aptitude Test]/VTU ETR[eligibility test for research] and the interview to be admitted to the program. UGC / UGC-CSIR JRF / SLET / CAT / GATE / NET qualified candidates and M.Phil degree holders are exempted from the entrance test. The PhD program fee is approximately 25k per year.

VTU Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

• The university admission committee considers only those students eligible for PhD who have a master’s degree in technology or engineering from a recognized university in the country.
• The basic eligibility of the applicant will be based on the scores obtained by him/her in post-graduation and the university expects a minimum of 60% aggregate here. Equivalent to this in CGPA system, a 6.5 is required from all students.
• Applicants should also have a bachelors degree in technology or engineering with their scores being minimum 70% or a 7.5 CGPA out of 10.
• Candidates should have obtained patents or published research papers in order to be eligible for the Ph.D. program at VTU.
• All applying students for the Ph.D. program must give the entrance exam conducted by VTU to determine the candidate’s eligibility. The final selection will be based on whether the student has given the eligibility test or not.
• Full time Ph.D. students must have a guide from any of the 130 research centres that VTU has to be eligible for filling in the application form. The required documents for application have to be submitted through the guide only.
• Part time Ph.D. students have to present their employment certificate so they can be eligible for the part time program that the University offers.

VTU Ph.D. Selection Criteria

• A student will only be considered for PhD if he had maintained good grades in his/her graduate and post graduate study. Minimum required aggregates have to be fulfilled by the student in order to be selected.
• Minimum marks have to scored by the applicants in the VTU eligibility test that is conducted for selection of candidates. It is a qualifying exam which further sends students to the interview session when final selection is done.
• A merit list is issued by VTU for candidates who have cleared the eligibility test stage and then the selected students move onto the interview stage. This is where the admission panel has a counselling session with the applicant.
• Selected candidates are then allotted the research centre and guide they had selected previously and their documents are sent for final verification. All these candidates are given provisional admission once the fee is paid.
• Selected students have to now submit a synopsis of their research title through their guide and the assigned research centre. Upon evaluation, the candidate is given a permanent seat in the program.

How to Apply for VTU Ph.D?

Registration:.

• Applicant first has to find a guide of the stream from the research centre of VTU. The research centres that are affiliated to VTU have been listed on the official website for students to check.
• Once the guide is finalised, he/she will upload the application form with required documents on the official VTU website.
• The application fee of 700/- has to be paid next by the candidate and the online payment receipt should also be printed for submission.
• Hard copy of the application form along with the online fee payment proof has to be forwarded to the university with a NOC from student’s institution and his/her signature.
• As soon as the application form reaches the university, the student will be notified about the further application procedure and registration details.

• Certificate of post-graduation
• Valid competitive exam marks certificate
• Recognition certificates for research projects
• Caste certificate, if applicable
• Migration certificate, if from outside the state
• Latest passport size photographs
• Payment receipt of application fee

Honest Review

Faculties are highly knowledgeable and with 100% interest, they put lots of effort to make students understand the concept. Each class has about 55 to 60 students. Monthly internal exams are taken thrice a semester and at the end of each semester, an external exam is there. External exam papers and checking are done by VTU University. If we study the prescribed textbook thoroughly they we can score very decent marks in the final exam. Everything marking, paper setting etc is done fairly since it comes under VTU. Under VTU more than 200 colleges come under so you can imagine how reputed VTU university is and so is the final degree provided also have a lot of value outside the college. Therefore I suggest you join the Don Bosco Institute of Technology.

I choose the computer science course because this course is recommended by my father and the main reason for taking this course is that because this course had a great demand in the future. This college had approximately 40 to 45 students in this course. The teaching method of this college is very good.

Fee structure is very very expensive, in many colleges maximum fees is 20000 but in our college they will take 30000 as college fees for me its very expensive fee structure for this college.
