71+ Research Paper Topics & Ideas for Marketing Students

market thesis topic

As a marketing student, you probably have access to a plethora of resources such as your college library and of course, the internet, to come up with great research paper topics.

However, the thought of writing your research paper can be daunting, especially if you’re still brainstorming and don’t know what to write about.

Just like any other piece of writing, start by keeping your audience in mind. Then, make a list of research paper topics that are more relevant to your interests, or a new under-developed field (for example; augmented reality, or people sentiments towards Artificial Intelligence), or a unique research topic that intrigues your audience.

But if you’re still struggling to pin down one out of the many research paper topics for your program, we’ll suggest a number of them for you to either choose from; or for you to take inspiration from and come up with your own.

Table of Contents

How to Choose the Best Research Paper Topics

Before we dive into the details, you’ll have to familiarize yourself with the basics. For starters, pick up a pen and paper and brainstorm different topics that you’d like to write about.

While personal interest is definitely important, we also suggest you opt for a topic that will intrigue your readers.  Here are a couple of factors you ought to keep in mind while selecting a topic:

Keeping your personal interest in mind

You probably won’t be able to write a stellar research paper if you’re not interested in the topic. Sit down with your peers and advisors to discuss possible ideas. It will be easier for you to discuss different themes once you’ve written down all your ideas in one place. If you’ve decided on a specific keyword for instance “consumer behaviour”, you can look for similar research papers on the internet.

A research paper isn’t a descriptive essay which you can drag aimlessly. Your research paper needs to be based on factual data and that’s only possible if you’ve conducted thorough research. While jotting down points for your first draft, ensure your statements are supported with references or examples citing credible academicals and research work.

Don’t leave it till the last day

A lot of students tend to undermine the writing process and leave for the last few days. Bear in mind that you can’t possibly write your entire research paper overnight. In order to succeed, you’ll have to devote sufficient amount of time to research.

Also, be prepared to schedule meetings with your advisor on a regular basis as you’re bound to require help along the way. At this point, make sure you only rely on credible sources that will support your dissertation.

Examples & List of Research Paper Topics

If you’re still unable to decide a topic of your interest, here is a list of 70 unique marketing research topics that you can use as marketing project topics for your MBA, or any other marketing course:

We've broken it down into digestible sections, so you can dive straight into your area of interest or academic level. Go ahead, check out these marketing research topics for papers and dissertations to make your next project shine!

What Are Marketing Research Topics?

In its simplest form, marketing is all about telling a compelling story to your audience. It's how businesses communicate the value of their products or services to customers, intending to promote and sell them. Yet, it's not just about selling. Marketing also involves understanding customer needs, crafting solutions to meet these needs, and building relationships that result in customer loyalty.

Now, when it comes to marketing research topics, you'll find an expansive universe of possibilities, each as diverse as the next. You might explore how to position your product to maximize impact or delve into the powerful online strategies that can make your brand viral. Or, you could examine the psychology behind consumer behavior, understanding what drives people to buy one product over another.

These are just a handful of the abundant marketing topics you can encounter. Now let’s see what branches they are divided into.

Branches of Marketing Topics

Before you choose any marketing research topic idea, let’s figure out the main branches of this field. Here are the buckets they fall into:

  • Strategic marketing: This is the art of planning with a long-term view. Topics here could cover competitive positioning, market segmentation, or establishing a unique selling proposition.
  • Digital marketing: This direction is all about reaching customers online. You might explore search engine optimization, email marketing campaigns, or the effectiveness of different digital advertising strategies.
  • Social media marketing: This branch leverages social platforms to engage customers. Marketing topics here could revolve around the role of influencers, the power of user-generated content, or the impact of social media on brand perception.
  • Content marketing: This revolves around creating valuable content for customers. Here, you could delve into the importance of storytelling, how to create compelling blog posts, or the effectiveness of video marketing.
  • Consumer behavior: This branch focuses on understanding what drives consumers. You might examine factors influencing buying decisions, the psychology of consumer choice, or trends in consumer behavior.

How to Choose a Marketing Research Topic?

Choosing the right marketing research paper topic is crucial for a couple of reasons. Firstly, a good topic can keep you motivated throughout your study. It can be the difference between seeing your research as a chore or an adventure. Secondly, a well-chosen topic can contribute to the field, spark discussions, or even influence marketing strategies.

So, what makes a marketing research topic good? Most importantly, it should be an area of interest that excites you and piques your curiosity. Researching something you don't care about won't bring out your best work. Also, make sure the topic is relevant – check if it fits into the current research landscape or challenges existing knowledge. Last but not least, ask yourself if the topic is manageable within the scope of your assignment and resources.

With these criteria in mind, let's see how to select the right marketing research topic. Below are some valuable suggestions from our thesis writing service :

  • Begin research Get familiar with the field by reading up on the latest publications and material. Note down all ideas for later reference.
  • Identify your interest area Start by asking yourself what aspect of marketing excites you most. Is it the psychology of consumer behavior, the analytics of digital marketing, or the creative aspects of content marketing?
  • Examine current trends Stay updated with the latest developments in the marketing field. Read industry reports, blogs, or news to identify hot topics or emerging trends.
  • Find a gap Look for questions that haven't been sufficiently answered or areas that need more exploration. This could be a unique perspective on an existing topic or an entirely new question.
  • Consider practicality Make sure your topic is feasible to research. Do you have access to the necessary resources, data, or tools?

Remember, choosing the right topic is a journey, one that requires time, exploration, and sometimes, a bit of trial and error. Don't rush it, savor the process, and you'll end up with a great topic. But in case you are stuck, we developed a list of potential research topics in marketing – all worth attention.

I would like to thank my parents Mr.M.S.Kathiravan and Mrs.K.Vinodha for their constant support through these years. I also thank my family, friends and everyone who hasbeen helpful for the successful completion of this Thesis.

ABSTRACT This thesis, market place looks at reviving the diverse roles of a public market as a public place of socio cultural significance which is keeping them alive in this age of growing online shopping. This thesis attempts to focus on the market’s connection with people and its urban context by using the tool of place making. Hence this thesis relies on the detailed adaptive use of various spaces, flexibility in design and, diversity in activities associated with the market which will empower people and develop a sense of community and its imagery as a landmark.. It also considers the market as a source of resources and a place to connect with nature’s value and its cycles.

THESIS EVOLUTION Being a city grown kid, my craving to interact with the roots of daily resources, their values, cultural identity ,nature, indigenous art, food and architecture, lead me to choose a topic which makes the above a part of daily life. This happens only when its associated with a regular, secular activity like shopping essentials. This was also a result of the monotonous malls being the most common place which generally caters to a particular class of the crowd and compelled into standardization . Open spaces on the other hand merely spaces to bring in light and sir into the dense urban fabric than alive public areas associated with activities. These thoughts were all fused together and ignited into a market place by the government proposal for decentralizing Asia’s largest perishables market. Exploring the diverse roles and significance of markets in urban context fascinated me and lead this thesis to what it is.

BIBILOGRAPHY

INTRODUCTION: A public market is a space of commerce and social ability and a place of regular gathering for certain groups of people and is a place of connection with a larger network. A really public place.(public is, if all people, without any exception can use the same space)

NEED: Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) is one of Asia's largest perishable goods market complex. “Koyambedu market is the only source market for vegetables and fruits in the city. The market is now overcrowded due to wholesale and retailing. As the market was established 25 years ago, the facility is inadequate to meet the present requirements.

Moreover, more than 50,000 persons, including traders, visit the Koyambedu market every day, resulting in the choking of roads with traffic congestion and overcrowding in and around the market area. This is also due to flow of goods from outer Chennai to koyambedu for organisation and then back to the outskirts creating terrible impact on the city traffic

Hence Tamil Nadu Government is planning to build three new markets with modern amenities at Kattankolathur, Kuthambakkam and Mathur along outer ring road . Basically on 3 directional highway routes thereby dropping the goods for outskirts and finally to koyambedu for supply within inner ring road.

This will reduce city traffic, develop the above areas and also decongest koyambedu market. NOTE : The thesis is to design a market in one of these wings though all 3 will come up in future. Since the feasibility study for site and brief is in process by the government this thesis is considered as a part live and part hypothetical project, where Koyambedu market is considered as base reference for the derivation of requirements 1

In the Middle-East, documentary sources suggest that a form of bazaar first developed around 3,000 BCE Moosavi argues that the MiddleEastern bazaar evolved in a linear pattern, whereas the market places of the West were more centralised EGYPT - WOMEN FOLK At Pompeii multiple markets served the population of approximately 12,000 located and organised

Markets generally have featured prominently in artworks, especially amongst the Dutch painters of Antwerp from the middle of the 16th century. Pieter Aertsen was known as the "great painter of the market." Both he and his nephew, Joachim Beuckelaer, painted market scenes, street vendors and merchants

NECESSITY: Now, public realms have lost inherent values as social-mediated spaces. This situation has led the city to lose its existentialistic meaning in such gathering space and the absence of the public realm. Rethinking markets roles in the urban structure as the new type of social area, supporting urban traditions, and exchanging between communities economically and socially while 4 dealing with current sustainability issues is now necessary.

MARKET DESIGN STRATEGIES (stated by the Food and Agricultural Organization of The UN) LOCATION OF SITE: The preferred location for markets is one with good access to a main road system and with compatible adjacent land uses (such as catering and agribusiness industries)

Site Size: The overall site area required to accommodate the covered space should be in the ratio of between 1: 4 and 1: 3. This would mean that for every square metre of covered sales space an additional three to four square metres of site would be required. Exceptionally, this factor can be reduced to 1:2.5 if the site area is very limited and increased to 1: 5 if much of the trading is likely to be undertaken in the open.

The overall site area in square metres can thus be derived by multiplying the gross market area by a factor of 2.5 to 5 to allow for traffic circulation, parking areas and site landscaping

PLACE MAKING WHAT IS PLACEMAKING? Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well-being MAKING MARKET A DYNAMIC COMMUNITY PLACE STRATEGIES FOR PLACE MAKING

General Structure of a Finance Dissertation

Depending on the guidance of your supervisor, the structure may vary. Nonetheless, as a general guide, ensure the following sections are part and parcel of your dissertation:

  • Theoretical and empirical literature, hypotheses development and contribution: It provides the theoretical framework of your study. The hypotheses are based on the literature review.
  • Data and methodology: State the model (i.e. dependent and key independent variables) that you want to use the drawing on theoretical framework or economic argument that you may employ for your analysis. Define all control variables and describe the data used to test the hypothesis.
  • Empirical results: Describe the results and mention whether they are consistent with the hypotheses and relate them with the existing evidence in the literature. You will also describe the statistical and practical/economic significance of your findings.
  • Summary and conclusion: Summarize your research and state the general conclusion with relevant implications.

⭐ What Does a Thesis in Economics Look Like?

A good thesis in economics is a blend between an empirical paper and a theoretical one. One of the essential steps in choosing a topic in economics is to decide which one you will write.

You may write, research, analyze statistical data and other information. Or build and study a specific economic model.

Or why not both!

Here are some questions you can ask when deciding what topic to choose:

  • What has already been written on this topic?
  • What economic variables will my paper study?
  • Where should I look for the data?
  • What econometrics techniques should I use?
  • What type of model will I study?

The best way to understand what type of research you have to do is to write a thesis proposal. You will most probably be required to submit it anyway. Your thesis supervisor will examine your ideas, methods, list of secondary and primary sources. At some universities, the proposal will be graded.

Master’s thesis and Bachelor’s thesis have three main differences.

After you get the initial feedback, you will have a clear idea of what to adjust before writing your thesis. Only then, you’ll be able to start.

📝 How to Select an Economics Thesis Topic

As your academic journey is coming to an end, it’s time to pick the right topic for your thesis. The whole academic life you were preparing to undertake this challenge.

Here is the list of six points that will help you to select an economics thesis topic:

  • Make sure it is something you are genuinely interested in. It is incredibly challenging to write something engaging if you are not interested in the topic. So, choose wisely and chose what excites you.
  • Draw inspiration from the previous student’s projects. A great place to start is by looking at what the previous students wrote. You can find some fresh ideas and a general direction.
  • Ask your thesis advisor for his feedback. Most probably, your thesis advisor supervised many students before. They can be a great help too because they know how to assess papers. Before meeting with your professor, do some basic research, and understand what topic is about.
  • Be original, but not too much. You do not want to spend your time writing about a project that many people wrote about. Your readers will not be interested in reading it, but your professors as well. However, make sure you do not pick anything too obscure. It will leave you with no secondary sources.
  • Choose a narrow and specific topic. Not only will it allow you to be more original, but also to master a topic. When the issue is too broad, there is just too much information to cover in one thesis.
  • Go interdisciplinary. If you find yourself interested in history, philosophy, or any other related topic, it can help you write an exceptional thesis in economics. Most of your peers may work on pure economics. Then, the interdisciplinary approach can help you to stand out among them.

Some universities ask their students to focus on topics from one discipline.

Business/Management Dissertation & Theses

While the ideas we’ve presented above are a decent starting point for finding a business-related research topic, they are fairly generic and non-specific. So, it helps to look at actual dissertations and theses to see how this all comes together.

Below, we’ve included a selection of research projects from various management-related degree programs (e.g., MBAs, DBAs, etc.) to help refine your thinking. These are actual dissertations and theses, written as part of Master’s and PhD-level programs, so they can provide some useful insight as to what a research topic looks like in practice.

Looking at these titles, you can probably pick up that the research topics here are quite specific and narrowly-focused , compared to the generic ones presented earlier. This is an important thing to keep in mind as you develop your own research topic. That is to say, to create a top-notch research topic, you must be precise and target a specific context with specific variables of interest . In other words, you need to identify a clear, well-justified research gap.

Market-based schemes not reducing deforestation, poverty: Report

by Nick Perry

A major global study has found that market-based approaches to conserving forests had achieved little progress in halting deforestation and in some cases worsened economic inequality.

Market-based approaches to forest conservation like carbon offsets and deforestation-free certification schemes have largely failed to protect trees or alleviate poverty, according to a major scientific review published on Monday.

The global study—the most comprehensive of its kind to date—found that trade and finance-driven initiatives had made "limited" progress halting deforestation and in some cases worsened economic inequality .

Drawn from years of academic and field work, the report compiled by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), a group of 15,000 scientists in 120 countries, will be presented at a high-level UN forum starting Monday.

Its authors urged a "radical rethink" of increasingly popular market-based approaches often promoted as effective at saving forests, curbing global warming and raising living standards in developing nations.

"The evidence does not support the claim of win-wins or triple wins for environment, economy and people often made for market mechanisms as a policy response to environmental problems," said contributing author Maria Brockhaus from the University of Helsinki.

"Rather our cases show that poverty and forest loss both are persistent across different regions of the world... where market mechanisms have been the main policy option for decades," she told AFP by email.

No accountability

Since the last IUFRO assessment in 2010, the report noted a rise in complex and overlapping market-based schemes "with financial actors and shareholders more often interested in short-term profits than long-term just and sustainable forest governance".

Its lead author, Constance McDermott from the University of Oxford, said this may not be true of all individual projects "but overall... it's hard to say they've been a rousing success".

The report said a $120 million project in the Democratic Republic of Congo had "reinforced entrenched interests" by restricting local people from forests without addressing logging by powerful extractive businesses.

In Malaysia, indigenous groups promised better livelihoods from a foreign-backed plantation venture on their customary land received no benefit, the report said.

"As both cases show, 'wins' are often gained elsewhere, while the burdens of forest loss, enclosures and forestland conversion are carried locally," said Brockhaus.

In Ghana, deforestation rates had risen despite a slew of sustainable cocoa standards, corporate pledges, and carbon offset projects, while farmers were earning less today than decades ago, said McDermott.

Meanwhile green trade policies imposed by wealthy countries—like the EU's ban on imports linked to deforestation—might look good from Brussels but did not consider the knock-on effects, she added.

"There's no accountability. If this doesn't work—or farmers are pushed off their farm as a result—it's not going to hurt the person eating chocolate in the UK or Germany," she said.

'Radical rethink'

Despite recent turmoil, carbon markets are projected to grow into a multi-billion-dollar industry as corporations increasingly turn to credits to meet their net-zero climate targets.

Credits are purchased from projects, often in developing nations, that reduce or avoid the release of planet-heating emissions, such as protecting CO 2 -absorbing rainforests or peat swamps.

Kenya's President William Ruto has called Africa's carbon sinks an "unparalleled economic goldmine" that could generate billions of dollars every year.

But there are growing concerns about how much of that revenue poor communities might expect to see, with unscrupulous actors accused of exploitation.

Brockhaus said market-based approaches may be appealing to policymakers but would not be a solution without also addressing the broader economic and governance challenges around forest management.

"We advocate for a radical rethink," she said.

DJT stock rebounds since hush money trial low. What to know about Truth Social trading

market thesis topic

The parent company of social media platform Truth Social has continued its volatile journey on the stock market, doubling since a low three weeks ago.

Trump Media & Technology Group went public on the Nasdaq on March 26, 2024. Share prices have swung wildly from more than $70 a share to just under $23 in mid-April as Trump's hush money trial began. They closed at nearly $48 on Tuesday.

"Expect the unexpected," said Jay Ritter, a finance scholar at the University of Florida . Despite the recent upswing, the stock price is likely headed to $1-$2 a share , Ritter said. "Whether it takes six months to get there or three years to get there, nobody knows for sure."

He speculated that the stock's recent rise may be due to the company's efforts to combat short selling − a strategy that involves selling shares in the hopes the price will drop, then buying them back at a lower price, and locking in a profit.

Trump Media posted information online on how investors can prevent their shares from being used by "short sellers," pushing those sellers to buy the stock back at higher prices, which can result in heavy losses.

"That buying pressure is probably the major reason why the stock has doubled in the last three weeks," Ritter said.

Here is what else to know about Trump Media's stock price.

Trump Media stock price

At the close on May 7, Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. shares fell to $47.67, down 3% from the previous close.

How parent company of Truth Social went public

Trump founded his social media company in 2021 after being booted from other major platforms following the  January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump Media went  public on the Nasdaq on March 26, 2024 , through a merger with shell company Digital World Acquisition Corp., a  special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC . The merger was announced in 2021.

Trump's debut on the stock market  was splashy, with Trump Media shares soaring, helped partly by – and to the delight of – his loyal MAGA supporters.

But regulatory filings show the company was operating at a loss in 2023, making approximately $4 million in revenue while losing more than $58 million. Accounting firm BF Borgers CPA PC said in a letter to Trump Media shareholders the operating losses “raise substantial doubt about its ability to continue as a going concern.”

That firm has since been shut down on allegations of "massive fraud," the SEC announced Friday . In a press release, Gurbir S. Grewal, Director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement called BF Borgers CPA PC a "sham audit mill" after finding its audits, included in more than 1,500 SEC filings, did not comply with oversight standards.

Trump's legal cases come with mounting price tag

Despite bouncing back, Trump Media share prices have fallen since their peak of more than $70 per share.

Trump also was ordered to pay a  combined $537 million across two civil cases  earlier this year, both of which he is appealing. Trump has also been ordered to pay $10,000 in fines for gag order violations in his hush money trial, and has the potential to rack up more as the trial continues.

At one point, the Trump Media shares were a potential source of funding to put towards hefty legal fees .

But in April, he posted a reduced bond of  $175 million fronted  by  California billionaire Don Hankey  to prevent his assets from being  seized in a fraud case .
