To be considered for admission to a Macquarie University College pathway program, international students require the completion of either:

  • senior secondary studies equivalent to Australian Year 11 for admission to  Standard Foundation
  • senior secondary studies equivalent to an Australian Year 12 senior secondary qualification (HSC or equivalent) for admission to Intensive Program or Diploma programs

What marks or grades do I need?

The tables below provide the minimum scores required for overseas high school qualifications from over 60 countries, including many globally recognised qualifications such as the GCSE / O-Levels, GCE AS / A-Levels, and the International Baccalaureate (IB):

  • Macquarie University College (Pathway Programs) - International Academic Entry Requirements

Further information on our pathway programs is available through Coursefinder .

Undergraduate Academic Entry Requirements

Academic qualifications.

To apply for an undergraduate program, international students will need to have completed one or more of the following academic qualifications:

  • A recognised senior secondary school qualification or university entrance examination, such as the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (NSW HSC) or other equivalent Australian or overseas high school qualification
  • A recognised university Foundation course
  • A recognised 2 or 3-year Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree
  • At least one year of a university degree from a recognised institution

How do I know if my qualification is 'recognised'?

Macquarie University recognises a wide variety of academic qualifications including:

  • Senior secondary qualifications from Australia and recognised equivalent qualifications from overseas
  • Foundation programs offered by most Australian universities, as well as some approved international programs
  • Diplomas assessed as equivalent to the level of an Australian Diploma (AQF 5) or Advanced Diploma / Associate Degree (AQF 6) qualification
  • Degree programs assessed as equivalent to the level of an Australian Bachelor (AQF 7), Honours Bachelor or Graduate Certificate / Diploma (AQF 8), or Master (AQF 9) degree

If your qualification does not fit into any of the above categories, or if you are unsure, please do not hesitate to submit an application and it will be assessed by our admissions team.

We also accept a broader selection of overseas qualifications for admission into our Foundation and Diploma level courses which can provide a pathway into your preferred undergraduate program - see Macquarie University College Foundation and Diploma entry requirements for details.

Direct entry to our undergraduate programs for international students is determined by an international selection rank or course cut-off score. Each degree has a specific international selection rank which is converted into the minimum score you need to achieve in your overseas qualification to be considered for entry.

The tables below provide international selection rank conversions for qualifications from over 40 countries, including many globally-recognised qualifications such as GCE A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB):

  • Undergraduate (Bachelor Degree) - International Academic Entry Requirements

Worried that you will not meet the minimum score for your program?

Not a problem - please have a look at our International Academic Entry Program where we may be able consider your eligibility based on your English results and academic performance in mathematics and other subjects.

Can't find your score or qualification?

If you cannot find the required score for your qualification, please do not hesitate to submit an application and our admissions team will assess your eligibility.

International Academic Entry Program

Should you not meet the minimum cut-off score for entry into your selected undergraduate course, you may still be able to qualify for admission under our  International Academic Entry Program (IAEP) . Under this entry program, we will consider your overall performance and your individual subject scores that match your strengths to one of our world-class courses.

Listed below are the minimum scores that you would need to achieve in the Higher School Certificate (HSC) Mathematics and other subjects to be considered for entry under this pathway. The HSC is the Year 12 senior high school qualification that is completed by students residing in New South Wales, Australia. Equivalent subjects from other recognised international senior high school qualifications or university entry examinations will also be considered.

Provided you already meet the English requirements for your selected course either via the HSC English subject listed below or via  other accepted evidence of English proficiency , we will consider your overall score and your performance in relevant subjects as an alternative means of entry.

You  do not need to apply for the IAEP. If you do not meet the course cut-off, our Admissions team will automatically assess your eligibility.

How to apply (MD graduate entry)

If you've completed a key degree, or are in your final year of a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and have sat GAMSAT , apply for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) through the Graduate Entry Medical School Admissions System (GEMSAS).

Apply now to GEMSAS

See the GEMSAS website for:

  • information on applications
  • key dates .

What happens next

Selection for interviews.

Once your application has been assessed, GEMSAS will email you to let you know if you've been invited for a multiple mini-interview (MMI) .

Applicants are selected for interviews based on GPA and GAMSAT scores.

Applicants are ranked for invite to interview within the pathways they apply.

If you have indicated that you would like to be considered for the:

  • Central Queensland – Wide Bay Regional Medical Pathway (CQ-WB RMP), or
  • Darling Downs-South West Medical Pathway (DD-SW MP).

You'll be ranked for those pathways first and within each tier (Tier 1 first, followed by Tier 2, then Tier 3).

If you're not ranked for an invite to interview for the CQ-WB RMP or DD-SW MP, you'll be ranked and considered for an invite to interview in the Greater Brisbane pathway.

Applicants to all pathways must meet the same minimum selection criteria however this does not guarantee selection for interview.

Eligible applicants will receive only one invitation to interview from a medical school participating in GEMSAS. Participating medical schools share and accept interview outcomes so applicants will only be interviewed once.

Interview and invitation dates

GEMSAS issue interview invites in late August/early September. If you're selected for interview, you must:

  • accept your invitation in the GEMSAS portal and
  • book an interview time directly with UQ by the booking due date on the invitation.

Interviews will be scheduled for mid-September 2024.

If you've completed a key degree or are in your final year of a bachelor's degree (or equivalent), you can apply online directly to UQ.

You'll need to select the postgraduate MD program (code 5740). You can complete the application yourself or apply through an approved UQ agent near you .

You'll need to pay a fee of A$100 when you submit your application. This fee can't be refunded.

Apply to UQ

Application dates

To apply to start studying in 2025, you'll need to submit your application by:

  • 14 June 2024 to be considered for Round 1 offers .

If you're sitting MCAT on 10, 11 or 16 May 2024, you can still apply for Round 1 . You'll need to provide evidence of your MCAT booking confirmation. We'll consider your application once results are released on 11 and 18 June respectively.

  • 8 August 2024 to be considered for Round 2 offers .

If you're sitting the MCAT on 13 July 2024 you can still apply for  Round 2 . You'll need to provide evidence of your MCAT booking confirmation. We'll consider your application once results are released on 13 August.

We'll assess your application to see if you meet the minimum entry requirements.

Once your application has been assessed, we'll email you to let you know if you've been invited for a multiple mini-interview (MMI) .

Applicants are selected for interviews based on GPA, and GAMSAT or MCAT scores.

We'll email invitations for interviews in the week beginning:

  • 1 July 2024 for Round 1 interviews.
  • 26 August 2024 for Round 2 interviews.

Interviews will be scheduled for the week beginning:

  • 15 July 2024 for Round 1
  • 9 September 2024 for Round 2.

Following the interviews, all applicants are ranked and we'll let you know if you're eligible to receive an offer.

Receiving your invitation

It's your responsibility to provide the correct email address and check all inboxes (including junk and spam folders).

If you experience any issues with your booking, you must contact the Faculty of Medicine during the booking window for assistance ( [email protected] ).

We won't consider requests to accept late bookings for interviews unless there are exceptional circumstances. Interview times are subject to availability.

A lack of knowledge about the booking procedure, the associated timelines or not checking your junk mail folder are not considered to be circumstances beyond your control and would not meet the criteria for a late application to be considered.

Offer dates

Offers will be emailed in the week beginning:

  • 29 July 2024 for Round 1
  • 30 September 2024 for Round 2.

Offers made to applicants in your final year of your first key degree, or currently completing study to meet prerequisites will be conditional upon completing the outstanding entry requirements before 31 December in the year of application.

As there are limited places, if you've received an offer, make sure you respond as soon as possible.

If places have been filled, you'll be added to our waitlist.

You can find more information about admission requirements, interviews, offer selection and deferment in Undergraduate, Doctor of Medicine, Non-Award and CSP Admissions – Schedule 3 .

Selection for offers

Following the interviews, eligible applicants are ranked by tier and merit order in each pathway, with CQ-WB RMP and DD-SW MP offers determined first.

CQ-WB RMP and DD-SW MP applicants who do not receive an offer to those pathways will then be considered for an offer in the Greater Brisbane pathway.

If applicants have the same final score, the MMI score will be used as a tiebreaker.

Applicants from all entry pathways are then ranked in merit order to determine whether they will receive a non-bonded or bonded medical place (BMP). CSP places will be offered first, followed by BMP.

If you receive an offer and you're in the final year of your first key degree, your offer is conditional on completing your key degree and other outstanding entry requirements before 31 December in the year of application.

If you receive an offer and decline it, you will not be eligible to receive any other offers from medical schools that participate in GEMSAS. You may, however, apply again next year.

For more information on admission requirements, interview and offer selection, and deferment see  Undergraduate, Doctor of Medicine, Non-Award and CSP Admissions – Schedule 3 , and the GEMSAS website.

Feedback on your application

Once the relevant admission period has passed, we'll provide feedback on your unweighted average GAMSAT score, grade point average and MMI score in comparison to the cohort (other applicants).

Please note that we’re unable to provide qualitative or quantitative feedback on your individual MMI performance.

Once the relevant admission period has passed, we'll provide feedback on your unweighted average GAMSAT or MCAT score, grade point average and MMI score in comparison to the cohort (other applicants).

Requirements for study

Successfully achieve core learning outcomes.

Inherent requirements are necessary for a student to successfully complete a course or program and graduate.

Students must meet the inherent requirements to complete a Macquarie University course or program and graduate.

Importance of inherent requirements

Macquarie University is committed to providing a learning environment that complements and enhances the University experience for all students.

Inherent requirements ensure students are given the opportunity to make informed decisions:

  • as to whether a course or program is suitable and relevant for them, and
  • the type of reasonable adjustments that could be put in place to allow them to complete the course without compromising the academic integrity of the course.

To help students to make informed choices about their study, we have identified the inherent requirements for courses or programs offered by the University in the Inherent Requirements Statement under the Admissions (Coursework) Policy .

If there are course-specific inherent requirements they will be listed under the award in the Course Handbook .

Compulsory course requirements

In addition to inherent requirements, there are also compulsory course requirements. These are broader and can include both compliance with the policies, procedures and regulations, which are applicable to all students at the University and the mandatory requirements associated with a program of study (eg attendance, completion of assignments).

Reasonable adjustments

Students with a disability or chronic health condition may have reasonable adjustments made to enable them to meet these requirements.

Reasonable adjustments could include:

  • flexibility in assessments
  • changed exam conditions
  • provision of adaptive equipment
  • participation support
  • flexible teaching material

However, these adjustments:

  • must not fundamentally change the nature of the inherent requirement
  • be reasonable
  • and cannot compromise the academic integrity of the course.

Accessibility Service

All students with a disability and/or health condition are encouraged to register with the Accessibility Service via the online Accessibility registration form .

The Accessibility Service allows you to meet with a member of the Accessibility team who can:

  • assess your needs and identify what support you may need at University
  • work with you and your faculty to determine the reasonable adjustments to assist you to meet the inherent requirements
  • provide guidance regarding other study options in the case where it is determined that inherent requirements cannot be met with reasonable adjustments.

Contact the Accessibility Service at Student Wellbeing on +61 (2) 9850 7497 if you have any questions relating to the assessment and implementation of disability supports, reasonable adjustments or inherent requirements.

If you have any other concerns about your ability to participate in aspects of the course, you should contact your course convenor.
