Dress appropriately for the day of your interview.

Avoid language that is too informal and make sure to be respectful. Keep your tone of voice quiet and pleasant throughout the process.

3. Be Factual

If there are issues you want to bring up use facts to illustrate your points. Telling Human Resources that you are underpaid can easily come off as entitled. 4. Be Positive

People, and employers, are more likely to hear your complaints if you have demonstrated that you are on their side. Be on their side.

How Indirect Assessment Shapes Business Education

  When AACSB held its Assessment and AoL Conference in New York City last March, one topic repeatedly emerged as a focal point among participants and presenters: indirect assessment. No doubt the same topic will be a major theme of the next conference , scheduled for May 12–14, 2025, in London.

The concept of indirect measures is not new, but the AACSB requirement for such measures is relatively recent. Standard 5 of AACSB’s 2020 business accreditation standards states, “The school employs well-documented assurance of learning (AoL) processes that include direct and indirect measures for ensuring the quality of all degree programs that are deemed in scope for accreditation purposes.”

By adding the requirement, AACSB is communicating the importance of gathering AoL data through a diverse array of assessment methods, including alumni feedback, learner surveys, and employer/industry focus groups. These indirect measures provide insights into teaching and learning that direct measures may not capture. Therefore, these tools act as valuable complements to traditional assessment practices and ensure that programs promote academic excellence and align with industry needs.

For fifteen years, Peregrine Global Services has equipped schools with customizable assessments designed to meet AoL requirements, including those set out by AACSB . The What and Why of Student Learning

The key difference between direct and indirect measures is that direct assessments reveal the what of student learning, while indirect measures uncover the why behind those outcomes. Together, they form the whole assessment picture.

Direct measures—which might include standardized tests, cumulative exams, portfolios, presentations, research projects, and internships—demonstrate learners’ knowledge, skills, and abilities. By collecting direct measures, institutions can identify a program’s strengths, as well as areas where it might need improvement. This lays the groundwork for schools to make informed, data-driven decisions that impact program quality.

Through small focus groups and interviews with stakeholders, an institution can gather rich, qualitative insights into an academic program’s quality and its alignment with industry demands.

Using indirect measures such as surveys, interviews, and focus groups, schools can capture the nuanced aspects of student experiences, including engagement, confidence in competencies, and perception of learning.

In these conversations, stakeholders will discuss the relevancy of the curriculum, the effectiveness of the school’s teaching methods, and the experiences these stakeholders have had when interacting with students or faculty.

Such discussions frequently reveal the competencies graduates need when entering the job market or progressing through their careers. These conversations also might highlight potential gaps in the school’s curriculum.

Institutions can interview and survey alumni, employers, and the community, as well as current learners. By collecting indirect measures from so many groups, institutions can quantify and set targets related to the perceptions of different stakeholders:

  • By surveying alums, a school can put together a longitudinal review of what students need for career progression and professional development.
  • By surveying employers, an institution can keep its finger on the pulse of changes within the field.
  • By surveying students, an institution can compare indirect and direct assessment measures to gain a comprehensive picture of student learning. The school also can evaluate the results of changes it has made to its programs.

Flexible and Integrated

According to AACSB, direct and indirect measures are required across the entire assessment portfolio. However, programs may vary in how they are evaluated as long as their assessment plans are consistent with the school’s mission and strategic initiatives. Therefore, some programs may be assessed entirely through direct measures, and other programs may be assessed only through indirect measures. This methodology allows a school flexibility while also ensuring that it is accountable to its learners.

Schools also must use the data to identify ways to improve learning and performance.

Despite the flexibility, there’s a compelling argument to be made for adopting an integrated assessment strategy. By combining assessment methods, an institution can cross-validate findings and take a data-informed approach to continuous improvement.

However, as Karen Tarnoff stresses in a recent article in AACSB Insights, assurance of learning is not solely a data collection process. Schools also must use the data to identify ways to improve learning and performance. Following are two examples of times that schools used direct and indirect assessment to identify areas for improvement, make changes, and close the loop.

Boosting Quantitative Skills

In the first instance, when a school reviewed its assessment data results, it found that graduate business learners scored much lower in quantitative research and techniques than they did in other content areas. It is not unusual for learners to face challenges in quantitative subjects, but students at this school also underperformed when compared to the benchmark of the U.S. aggregate.

On the surface, there was no real indication as to why this might be. Therefore, the school added a targeted question to its exit survey, while faculty made minor adjustments to the curriculum. Despite these efforts, the next assessment cycle showed only slight improvements. Fortunately, student survey data revealed the problem: Students felt they didn’t have a strong foundation in quantitative methods before starting the graduate program.

The school considered various ways to improve their learners’ scores, including adding a prerequisite course or further revising the curriculum. Eventually, administrators decided to adopt Peregrine’s Academic Leveling Modules . This modular experience is designed to provide graduate learners with a foundation in specific content areas, including quantitative research and techniques.

Assessing and Enhancing Creativity

In the second case study, a school was evaluating its undergraduate entrepreneurship-focused business program by having learners complete a comprehensive exam and deliver a portfolio assignment during the capstone course.

The students scored well on their comprehensive exams, and their portfolios showed a mastery of technical skills. However, a standardized rubric captured and quantified a noticeable lack of creativity.

To uncover the root cause of this problem, the school conducted exit interviews, which revealed that learners felt the program emphasized memorization and technological proficiency rather than creative thinking. In response, the program revised its curriculum to include more projects that encouraged creativity.

Finally, the program added questions related to creativity to its exit survey. This allowed administrators to monitor progress and effectively close the loop.

Leveraging Indirect Assessment

While the value of indirect assessment is high, so are the hurdles that higher education institutions face when collecting stakeholder feedback. Institutions frequently note that their most significant challenge is securing meaningful response rates. Low participation in surveys and focus groups can yield results that do not accurately reflect the group’s views. This means institutions might make decisions based on incomplete data.

An integrated strategy aims to make the feedback process more engaging and representative, which ultimately provides a school with actionable insights.

Institutions are leveraging technology to ensure more effective data collection and analysis. For example, Peregrine offers an integrated student survey. This led the OKC Thunder to hold their annual exit interviews on Sunday with plenty of learn-about and storylines to track down. Each player on the roster as well as head coach Mark Daigneault will talk with the assembled media for the final time to close the book on the 2023-24 season. This is set to be an all-day affair.

Things started out with Daigneault taking the podium to thank the players, fans and organization for this season before launching the media into pelting him and players with questions one by one. This event is not live-streamed so this tracker will be constantly updated throughout the day as new quotes become available from exit interviews.

The Oklahoma City Thunder started out with head coach Mark Daigneault, then moved on to Mike Muscala, Bismack Biyombo, Gordon Hayward, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lu Dort, Kenrich Williams, Isaiah Joe, Josh Giddey, Aaron Wiggins, Lindy Waters III, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Ousmane Dieng, Jaylin Williams and Cason Wallace. Next Chelsea manager: Boehly to interview No 1 candidate as startling new claims emerge over Pochettino exit

C helsea remain hopeful they will soon have a new manager in place – possibly as soon as this weekend – and plan to hold an interview soon with their top pick in Kieran McKenna and amid extraordinary new claims about two issues Mauricio Pochettino had concerns about at Stamford Bridge.

Regular readers of TEAMtalk will know that a meeting was being held on Monday and over Tuesday between the Chelsea board of directors to discuss the season just gone and on the direction to take going forwards, and in particular the future of Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. And while the announcement of the exit of the 52-year-old came as a shock to many, we had informed you why his exit was always a strong possibility .

And while Pochettino still retained support from many within the Chelsea boardroom, there were others – most notably Behdad Eghbali – who were not convinced by the former Tottenham and PSG coach, believing that despite their revival over the second half of the season which ultimately saw them finish sixth, their inability to claim a Champions League place was actually a huge failure.

We also understand that Pochettino had major disagreements over the club’s plan to sell off some of their homegrown stars – in particular Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah – with it ultimately decided to part ways now on amicable terms, rather than midway through next season which could have been more damaging for the club.

Next Chelsea manager: Blues to hold interviews with pecking order decided 

Now the hunt has quickly turned to whom should replace Pochettino in the Chelsea dug out next season and we have revealed the four names very quicky put on their wishlist: McKenna, Sebastian Hoeness and Thomas Frank.

Now new information from our transfer correspondent, Fraser Gillan – who has a number of close contacts at Stamford Bridge – has shed new light on the hunt for Pochettino’s successor.

We can reveal the Blues are desperate to appoint a young, progressive coach and are using data and analytics to help them make an informed choice.

And Gillan claims that Boehly and his fellow co-owner Eghbali have settled on Ipswich Town boss McKenna as their number one choice to succeed Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

The 38-year-old has led the Tractor Boys from the League One doldrums to the Premier League in two seasons, winning widespread acclaim for his style of football along the way.

But that success is set to come at a price for the Suffolk side, who have seen the likes of Brighton, Manchester United and now Chelsea all cast eyes in the direction of the Northern Irishman.

Ipswich are, understandably, desperate to keep McKenna ahead of their return to the Premier League, trying to open talks on a new contract with him.

However, we have been informed that Ipswich are now expecting their manager to leave, with officials at the club informed of Chelsea’s intentions.

As such, McKenna is waiting for the green light to get permission to be interviewed by Chelsea with sources at Portman Road now expecting him to leave.

The Blues do also still like Enzo Maresca of Leicester, Brentford boss Frank and Hoeness of Stuttgart, though moves for the latter two are considered ‘difficult’ at this stage.

Pochettino exit: worrying new claims on Chelsea exit

Meanwhile, fresh claims over Pochettino’s exit at Chelsea have emerged with their former boss having serious reservations over their two most expensive signings in Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

The pair cost Chelsea a combined £221m while arriving over two separate transfer windows in 2023, with World Cup winner Fernandez arriving from Benfica for £105.9m in January and fellow South American Caicedo from Brighton for a deal ultimately worth £115m over the summer.

However, we understand that Pochettino had serious reservations about the pair’s ability to play together in the middle of the park, also expressing his dissatisfaction at the ‘quality and balance’ within the Chelsea squad.

After an unsettled opening five months of his reign, Pochettino ultimately managed to settle on a balanced side, helping the Blues reach the Carabao Cup final, the FA Cup semi-finals and, ultimately, a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

But in private, we understand Pochettino expressed uncertainty about Fernandez’s ability to play as a creative No 8, feeling the two players together lacked the necessary power and strength to play as a midfield combination in the Premier League.

However, with the manager now a part of Chelsea’s history, he is unlikely to be out of work for long.

We revealed Manchester United have now been alerted by his availability, while Bayern Munich and potentially even the FA – should England lose Gareth Southgate – are also keen on his appointment.

And for those working with text, she says AI can be an invaluable assistant. “Journalists, PR professionals, copywriters and marketers can rewrite texts in different styles, adjust tones and reorganize structures to meet specific needs,” she continues. “By analyzing these modifications, employees can enhance their own writing, nurturing creativity and precision.”

She adds that AI is a valuable tool for brainstorming and feedback, especially in marketing, product development and research. “It can assist in generating new ideas, suggest questions and offer unbiased input on drafts and presentations,” according to the EduBirdie data lead. “This helps professionals refine their work, fostering creativity and continuous improvement.” To assist the younger generation in using this powerful tool, Hubska shared with me by email four essential hacks for boosting creativity with the help of AI.

1. Simulating scenarios

Hubska says if you’re out of ideas, asking AI tools to act out a hypothetical scenario with you can help kick start your creativity and problem-solving. “You can test different ideas, unearth challenges and explore potential outcomes, she posits. “Immersing yourself in role play will allow you to sharpen your presentation skills, hone your critical thinking, and make informed decisions—without any real-world consequences."

She presents these prompt examples:

  • Let’s act out a scenario where I believe [position] and you dispute my opinion.
  • Simulate a scenario where I’m pitching [idea]. What key points should I emphasize to secure support?

Hubska says you can ask ChatGPT to rewrite a text in different styles, improve its tone or reorganize the structure to meet particular needs. She cautions, however, not to copy and paste the results without learning from it. “Read over its work to see what changes it made, and use it to improve your writing style and prompt linguistic creativity,” she explains. “With enough practice, you won’t need AI's help to think of the perfect pun or creative word combinations"

3. Supported brainstorming

Hubska points out that ChatGPT or other AI tools can provide basic insight into market trends and industry happenings, but it falls short when asked to analyze complex ideas or come up with creative solutions. “You can’t expect it to do the hard work for you, but with the right prompt, it can help to get your brain going and creativity flowing,” she notes. “Rather than asking AI to tell you the answers, try asking it to think of questions you should ask yourself."

  • Share some thought-provoking questions or prompts that could help me explore [topic].

4. Detailed feedback

Hubska acknowledges that feedback is critical to evaluating performance, spotting mistake, and improving ourselves, but there isn’t always an expert around to help. “Or there wasn’t, until now,” she adds. “Using ChatGPT, you can seek valuable unbiased feedback on your ideas, projects and presentations at any time. Ask ChatGPT for its input on areas you can improve, alternative perspectives to consider, and how you can refine your work. Additionally, ask it to play the part of your audience and generate questions they might ask in response to your pitch or presentation, ensuring you’re ready for the real thing."

OKC Thunder exit interviews: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander & Co. wrap up 2023-24 season

Nearly 12 hours after the Thunder's season ended in a 117-116 loss to the Mavericks in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals, coach Mark Daigneault and players are back in OKC for exit interviews.

It was a banner season for the Thunder , which went 57-25 in the regular season to earn the top seed in the Western Conference. Mark Daigneault was voted NBA Coach of the Year, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was runner-up for NBA MVP and Chet Holmgren was second in Rookie of the Year voting.

How it got ‘easier’ for Cason Wallace to become comfortable with OKC

Cason Wallace did more observing than talking when he arrived at OKC as a rookie last offseason.

The then-19-year-old guard was in a new city, surrounded by new teammates, and it took time for him to adjust to his surroundings.

“It wasn’t that I was afraid to talk to people,” Wallace said. “I just didn’t have much to talk about. I just got here, and everybody is talking about last year and the people they miss and all this. I was like, ‘I don’t really know them.’ I couldn’t just butt into the conversation.”

But Wallace became more comfortable as the season unfolded, and he also looked comfortable on the floor.

Wallace finished with averages of 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 20.6 minutes. It was a strong rookie season for the Kentucky alum, who has fully integrated himself into the team.

“Time went on, and we started making our own memories,” Wallace said. “It was easier to navigate that. … It was wonderful. I saw the whole team was really close with each other, and nobody got treated differently.”

How Jaylin Williams managed to ‘be myself’ with OKC

When Jaylin Williams cracked the windshield of his car this season, his girlfriend called for someone to come repair it at his home.

Williams’ girlfriend put the request under her name, but the repairman saw Williams when he arrived and instantly reacted.

“He didn't say hello, didn't say anything,” Williams said. “He just started barking at me.”

Williams averaged four points and 3.4 rebounds in 13 minutes this season.

It was a modest role, but it wasn't the only way he impacted the team. Williams helped create a tight-knit culture in OKC with his light-hearted attitude. One where players and fans bark at each other before and after games.

“To me, I don't look at it as a role,” Williams said. “I'm just being myself. I think that a lot of it is because of my teammates, as well. They bring it out of me. They let me be free and be myself around them.

“It's just be out there and having fun. I try to lighten the situation a lot of times, yell at them, joke around.”

Ousmane Dieng made ‘leaps and bounds’ during G League title run

Ousmane Dieng got plenty of valuable experience this season.

The former No. 11 overall pick in 2022 only averaged four points in 11.1 minutes with the Thunder, but he maintained a lead role with the OKC Blue.

Dieng averaged 17.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and six assists in 31.8 minutes per game with the G League affiliate, and he led the Blue to its first-ever title. He even won G League Finals MVP.

“I think the whole process was a great experience,” Dieng said. “Obviously, the G-League was really fun, and the championship was a great experience for me. Especially the playoffs, playing a series, playing important games. That was really good.”

Dieng is still trying to carve out his role with the Thunder, which boasts one of the deepest benches in the league.

But with his second season in the books and more G League experience under his belt, Dieng can see the improvements he has made.

“I feel like I'm a way better player than at the beginning of the season,” Dieng said. “I've grown leaps and bounds. I think the G League playoffs really made me progress.”

Jalen Williams says OKC ‘stuck together’ this season

OKC received plenty of national recognition for its breakout season.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished second in the MVP race. Chet Holmgren finished second in the Rookie of the Year race. Mark Daigneault won Coach of the Year.

But none of those individual accolades distracted the team as it made its first Western Conference semifinals appearance since 2016, according to Jalen Williams.

“We’re really connected,” Williams said. “We have a lot of good dudes on the team that you can’t help but root for and hope for the best.”

Williams has managed to develop within the flow of OKC’s system.

The former No. 12 overall pick in 2022 averaged career highs of 19.1 points and 4.5 assists in his second season.

“For me personally, I want to see everybody else on the team do well, too,” Williams said. “It's just being able to give myself up for them, and hopefully that gets reciprocated. I think it did. Everybody had a really good year through the ups and downs of the season. Regardless I think we all kind of stuck together."

Why the future is ‘pretty exciting’ for Chet Holmgren

Chet Holmgren’s rookie season went as well as anyone could’ve hoped for.

After missing all of last season due to a foot injury, the former No. 2 overall pick in 2022 played all 92 games this time around. He averaged 16.5 points and 7.9 rebounds, and he finished second in voting for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

There’s plenty to be excited about. But as Holmgren talked to the media on Sunday, less than 24 hours removed from OKC’s season-ending loss to Dallas, it was too soon to reflect on his individual play.

"It's too early," Holmgren said. "I haven't even thought about it."

It wasn’t too soon for head coach Mark Daigneault, though, who spoke highly of Holmgren and his future on Sunday.

“Right now this is, in my opinion, the lowest level of Chet Holmgren we're going to see, which is pretty exciting,” Daigneault said. “And the reason I'm so confident saying that is because of his appetite for improvement. He's a guy that is incredibly focused. 

“Basketball is his number one priority. He sleeps in his sneakers. He will have a great summer physically and skill-wise.”

Why Lindy Waters III, OKC carries themselves 'with class'

Lindy Waters III has only been with OKC for three seasons, and yet it feels much longer than that.

The former Norman North and Oklahoma State standout has been around basketball in Oklahoma his whole life. He was around when OKC moved from Seattle in 2008. He was around when Kevin Durant bolted for Golden State in 2016. And he was around as a player when the team went through its rebuild.

Now, Waters is around for the resurgence of Thunder basketball. And his ties to the state only make it more meaningful.

“The pride of Oklahoma, it’s something that we try to express to each other,” Waters said. “We're seeing Oklahoma grow enormously over the past decade. … Now, being a part of this whole organization, it’s just so professional, and we carry ourselves with class.

“I think that speaks to how Oklahoma is in general. We're a very proud community, and we're going to keep encouraging each other.”

Aaron Wiggins says OKC’s youth didn’t play ‘any part’ in playoff exit

OKC’s youth got talked about a ton this season.

The Thunder entered the season as the second-youngest team in the NBA. It became the youngest No. 1 seed in NBA history. It became the youngest team to win a playoff series.

But the only place OKC’s youth wasn’t talked about was in the locker room, according to Aaron Wiggins.

“I don’t think our youth played any part in our success or our playoff play,” Wiggins said. “I think our connectedness, togetherness and understanding of what it takes to be a team that gets better and to be a team that can win games helped us get to where we were.” 

OKC has grown up as a team over the years, but individuals have also made strides.

That includes Wiggins. Despite averaging 6.9 points in a career-low 15.7 minutes this season, the 25-year-old guard shot a career-high 49.2% from deep and provided a spark off the bench.

“I’m just kind of learning the ways of the NBA,” Wiggins said. “I’m learning individual players, how guys play and how teams play. … And then with our team, chemistry, just continuing to grow with all of it. I think I grew a lot in those facets of the game.”

How Josh Giddey became the ‘best teammate’ possible after getting benched in the playoffs

OKC had plenty to celebrate following its Game 1 win over Dallas.

The Thunder earned a dominant 117-95 win in front of a packed home crowd, which created an electric environment from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

But one person who didn’t celebrate as much was Josh Giddey, who only played 17 minutes and struggled to stay on the floor.

“I was probably in my own head, and I wasn’t being a good teammate,” Giddey said. “I just felt bad. ... I was trying to be happy, but I was also so worried internally. I couldn’t fully get around the guys the way I wanted to. 

“From that point on, I made a promise to myself that whether I play five minutes or 40 minutes, I’m going to be the best teammate I can be.”

Giddey continued to struggle on the court throughout the series.

The third-year guard ultimately got benched for the first time of his career in Game 5, and he finished with series averages of 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12.7 minutes.

Still, Giddey put his own interests aside for the good of the team.

“When it comes to the playoffs, it becomes sort of that chess match,” Giddey said when asked about getting benched. “It’s just part of the game, and I took it on the chin. I kept moving forward and tried to be the best teammate I could be from the role I was playing on the bench.”

Why it was a ‘huge honor’ for Isaiah Joe to get playoff starts

Isaiah Joe got inserted into the starting lineup for the final two games of the Western Conference semifinals.

The fourth-year pro only made one start in the regular season, but he welcomed the opportunity. Joe averaged 8.5 points and shot 41.7% from deep during his two playoff starts.

“It’s an opportunity that I’ll never take for granted,” Joe said. “It’s really intense out there. The fan reactions on both sides are always amazing. … It’s just a huge honor to be able to be in those positions.”

Joe continues to carve out a role in the NBA after he got selected by Philadelphia in the second round (No. 49 overall) of the 2020 draft.

The 24-year-old guard averaged 8.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 18.5 minutes this season. And he hasn’t forgotten how far he has come.

“You can never forget where you came from,” Joe said. “The journey. The grind. That’s what it’s about, just knocking down barriers everywhere you go."

Lu Dort looks to ‘sharpen my game’ this offseason

Lu Dort says his game hasn’t changed since he got into the NBA in 2019.

He’s still a hard-nosed guard who prides himself on his defense. He’s still a hustle guy who’s the first one to dive on the floor for a loose ball. None of that changed as he went from an undrafted player to a key contributor for OKC.

"I've been having the same game for the past five seasons," Dort said. "It's going to be the same. I won't turn to Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) in one offseason."

Dort is still the same player at his core, but he did add to his game this season. 

The fifth-year pro solidified himself as a 3-and-D threat by shooting a career-high 39.4% from deep. And even though he won't become Gilgeous-Alexander this offseason, he does hope to become a more polished player.

“Everything,” “Dort said when asked what he wants to improve. “When I'm going in the offseason, I’m just working on everything and just trying to sharpen my game.”

Kenrich Williams is 'grateful' for his journey with OKC

Kenrich Williams still remembers the early years of OKC’s rebuild.

He was on the team in 2020 when it went 22-50. It marked the fewest wins ever for the franchise, which had grown accustomed to being competitive during the days of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

Those were tough times. But they made Williams appreciate OKC’s recent success even more.

“It’s been a journey that I’m extremely grateful for,” Williams said. “Being here in (2020) and going through that, it kind of makes you grateful for where you were. It does make you grateful for where you’re at.”

Williams is also grateful for his role with OKC, no matter how much it varies on a day-to-day basis.

The sixth-year pro only averaged 4.7 points and three rebounds in a career-low 14.9 minutes this season. But he never got discouraged.

“That’s my job as a professional,” Williams said. “You just have to be ready. Your number could be called at any minute.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander says OKC will ‘learn and get better’ from playoff exit

As Shai Gilgeous-Alexander walked off the floor of American Airlines Center on Saturday, fresh off OKC’s season-ending loss to Dallas, he felt a rush of emotions.

Some of that was pain from a heartbreaking defeat. Some of that was frustration with himself for a late foul on P.J. Washington, who then sank the game-winning free throws.

But some of it was clarity.

“I felt like, ‘Wow, we’re here,’” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “We’ve lost. We’ve lost for a reason. All you can do is learn and get better from that. That’s how you ultimately get to where you want to go.”

It’s no secret where OKC wants to go.

The Thunder is still searching for its first championship in franchise history. And even though it fell short of that goal this season, Gilgeous-Alexander and company are dedicated to playing the long game. 

“More often than not, you don’t get (your goals) when you want them,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “You get them when you deserve them. … You just have to put the work in. And if you put the work in and deserve it, you’ll get it."

How OKC reminded Bismack Biyombo to ‘enjoy life’

Bismack Biyombo is a seasoned veteran.

The 31-year-old center has played for six different teams throughout his 14 seasons in the NBA. He has gone through the grind of an 82-game campaign. He has weathered slumps, losing streaks and injuries.

That can take a toll. But when Biyombo signed with OKC on February 10, the young and energetic team reminded him why he plays the game.

“It was great,” Biyombo said. “As a player, you’ve played for so long in the league that you lose sight of things like being kids. I think it was a good reminder to always be kids, be curious and enjoy life a little bit.”

From barking like a dog with fans to celebrating as a group during postgame interviews with Bally Sports Oklahoma’s Nick Gallo , OKC knows how to have fun.

But the young group also knows how to focus on the task at hand, and that level of maturity wasn’t lost on Biyombo.

“Just from watching them and competing against them, I knew they were mature enough,” Biyombo said. “I think the maturity level of each and every one of them in the locker room helps the coach to coach them. Helps the front office to keep adding.”

Gordon Hayward says time, role with OKC was ‘disappointing’

When Gordon Hayward got traded from Charlotte to OKC on February 8, he was viewed as a potential game changer.

The 14-year-pro was expected to provide a veteran presence, especially in the postseason, for a team that was the youngest No. 1 seed in NBA history. But things didn’t go as planned.

Hayward didn’t score in the playoffs, and he only averaged 6.6 minutes in seven appearances.

“Obviously, disappointing with kind of how it all worked out,” Hayward said. “It’s not what I thought it would be, and it’s certainly frustrating. I feel like as a player I have a lot to offer, and I just wasn’t given much of an opportunity to do that.

"I think the minutes were certainly down and sporadic to a point where they were nonexistent. Just when I was out there, it was limited touches, I would say."

Hayward will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. 

When asked what his future holds, the 34-year-old forward didn’t look too far ahead.

“I feel like it’s kind of been one long road trip for me here,” Hayward said. “I’m excited to get back to my family. … I’ll take a deep breath and figure out what’ll be next.”

Why it ‘meant a lot’ for Mike Muscala to return to OKC

Mike Muscala never stopped watching Thunder games.

He kept tabs on OKC even after it traded him to Boston in February 2023, ending a four-year stretch with the franchise. Muscala then bounced around the league, making stops at Washington and Detroit in the span of about 13 months.

But when Muscala signed with OKC on March 2, he returned just in time to be a part of a historic season.

“It was awesome,” Muscala said. “I obviously have a lot of memories here and years spent here. To just be able to come back and be a part of the team, it meant a lot to me.”

Muscala says he was meditating in a park in Detroit when he heard from his agent, who told him a mid-season return to OKC could be in the cards.

It was too good of an opportunity to pass up on. And while Muscala will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, he won’t stop supporting OKC even if he ends up signing with a different team.

“I'll always be a Thunder fan no matter what happens in my life,” Muscala said. 

Mark Daigneault says OKC constructed ‘deliberate build over four years’

For those outside the organization, OKC could appear as an overnight success.

It went 57-25, and it became the youngest No. 1 seed in NBA history for either conference. The Thunder took the league by storm, but its whirlwind of a season has been brewing for quite some time.

“This has been a deliberate build over four years,” head coach Mark Daigneault said. “It’s been incremental. I would say we’ve had a very consistent environment. We’ve had very high standards that our players have met and exceeded. That has put us in positions to grow and continue to progress.”

Daigneault has been around for the entire process.

OKC hired him as his head coach in November 2020, less than a year after the team traded away Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

The Thunder went 46-108 throughout Daigneault’s first two seasons, but it made strides last season when it reached the play-in tournament. OKC then followed that up with a trip to the Western Conference semifinals.

And while the Thunder ultimately fell two wins short of advancing, the playoff run is just one more step in its ongoing build.

“You’ve got to use every single experience for forward momentum,” Daigneault said. “Our team should use being the No. 1 seed in a tough Western Conference, winning however many games we won, as motivation to understand what we’re capable of.”

It takes two to win one million dollars.

In Wednesday’s three-hour finale, Kenzie and Liz worked together to slay “Mamma Bear” Maria, only to wind up facing each other in the Final 4 fire-making challenge. But when Kenzie came out on top, nothing could slow her roll, and the momentum led the social butterfly and hair salon owner to defeat Ben and Charlie at the Final Tribal Council by a vote of 5-3-0. TVLINE | There’s so much to congratulate you on — your pregnancy, winning Survivor ! How are you feeling right now?   KENZIE PETTY | It’s really my year! I’m just so excited, so relieved. I’m so grateful. I’m so proud. It’s just so much joy and I’m happy to be able to share it with the world now that the cat’s out of the bag. 

TVLINE | What was it like having to keep that secret for so long?   It was hard, but I wanted everyone to be excited and go through it with me. When you’ve got a big, old NDA, it makes it a lot easier. [ Laughs ]  

Survivor 46 Finale

TVLINE | Going into Final Tribal, how confident were you feeling?   Going in, I was feeling very comfortable. I was just coming off of making fire, so I was like, “Oh, I got this!” Then we started Final Tribal and Ben and Charlie had such good answers that I was like, “Oh, I gotta step it up.” They were fighting so hard. Every answer I was like, “OK, Charlie!” and then another one and I was like, “OK, Ben!” Then you get in your head, where it’s like, “OK, I’m looking at all these people that I’ve helped vote out and if I say this, it might make that one mad, but if I say this, it might get this one…” It was a lot of balancing that while staying like true to your game and who you are and just owning that. Yeah, in the middle there, I was like, “Uh-oh, the boys are battling!” 

TVLINE | Looking back at the fire-making challenge, were you surprised that you weren’t put up against Charlie instead?   It’s all perspective, right? We were looking at Liz, she’s got four Nami on the jury and she’s saying she’s friends with all of them. Liz told me, “Me and Tevin and Hunter, we’re all together. Me and Venus are close.” So I was like, “OK, well, she’s literally telling me these people are gonna vote for her and was raising her threat level so high. To us, Liz was the biggest threat and Liz was playing an amazing game and she could have sold it at Final Tribal. Actually, I was surprised Ben didn’t put Charlie in because Charlie was making fire all day and I was choking. And our main goal was to get Liz out because Liz was such a big threat, so I was more surprised by that, not me and Charlie going against each other.    I think she was playing hard and I think it’s because her and I just talked strategy a lot and I didn’t talk strategy with a lot of other people. Laying low is a good strategy if you can sell it, and Liz actually can get a point across and is a really level-headed person regardless of what the edit shows. That’s why we were scared of her. 

Survivor 46 Finale

TVLINE | You had a really rough beginning at Yanu. What was the hardest part of those early days?   The constant loss, like that momentum. It really weighs on your psyche. You saw it in Q, you saw it in me, I don’t know if you saw it in Tiff, but I did. The constant getting beat down by losing, it gets in your head. Then on top of that, our shelter was terrible. On top of that, we had no fire. On top of that, we weren’t eating anything because we didn’t even want to open coconuts anymore because it took too much physical exertion. There was a 20-hour period where Q and Tiff and I just laid around and no one talked to each other. It was pretty bleak over there in the beginning. It was tough and I think if we could have gotten some momentum, it would have been a little better. But I am grateful for the start on Yanu because once I got to the merge and saw their camp, I was like, “Did production build this?” It was Hunter. But I was like, “This is the Taj Mahal of Survivor !” My standards were so low that everything else was great. I’d been in the slums the whole time. 

TVLINE | If Jeff comes calling again, would you ever go out for Round 2?  I’m never gonna say never, but I think I’m in my mommy era, my mommy homemaker era. I really got everything I wanted out of the game. I got every Sanctuary reward. I got the letters, I got the million, I got the friends, I got to hug Jeff, I got to wear the necklace. The only thing I didn’t do was find my own idol, which I am so grateful for, being on this season. 

TVLINE | Yeah, that didn’t work out for anyone this season! Yeah, that was the only thing on my bucket list that I didn’t do, but I was with Tiff when she found hers and I helped her find it. So I take like 0.2 of that. It really was all her. I pretty much checked all my boxes and I feel very full from the island right now. Maybe if they call me, I’ll rethink it, but right now, I would love to see one of my friends win.

I really liked Kenzie from the beginning. At one point during the season I wondered if she could win, but I kept thinking that Maria, Hunter, and Charlie had stronger chances. Then Hunter was voted out and Maria aligned with Q (which I’ll never understand), and I thought that maybe Kenzie could pull it off. I still thought Charlie had the stronger case in front of the jury. Kenzie’s positive attitude was infectious and clearly she had the social game figured out. I was happy with Kenzie winning even if I thought Charlie was the better overall player.

I think Maria wanted to bring Q to the end because no one would have voted for him.

Maybe it was the editing but I thought Liz was a self righteous person saying stuff like I would have beat you all and other stuff. She was very whiny! I think she would have gotten zero votes.

And on the last (or next to last) episode she came up with the wrist problem asking for pity because she had a physical impediment to make fire. What a freaking baby!
