This study is an exploration of the contemporary Filipino family interrelationships and dynamics with the objective of proposing a family-oriented counseling program which can be implemented for a better family wellbeing. Nine families from the province of Nueva Ecija were selected and interviewed to assess their overall family functioning. Data gathered were analyzed thematically. The qualitative data’s trustworthiness where squared through triangulation, stability check, and member checking. Yielded themes were then used as a benchmark for the organization of a comprehensive family counseling program. Major themes revolved around family relationships, familial decision making, and societal judgmental attitudes. Hence, it can be assumed that the contemporary Filipino family can be best understood from the viewpoints of these themes. The proposed family-oriented counseling program was designed based on the overall implications of the said themes. This consisted of responsive and exp...

Filipinos are a large, yet invisible, minority at high risk for adolescent behavioral health problems. Limited research describes the family as offering a source of positive support for some Filipino youths and yet for some it is also a source of stress and isolation, leading to struggles with adolescent depression and suicidal behavior. This article describes a qualitative study that investigates the role of family when understanding behavioral health needs among Filipino adolescents. Findings highlight the importance of addressing family cohesion when designing interventions aimed at improving the well-being of Filipino youth.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING THEORIES, TECHNIQUES, AND PRACTICES FOR FILIPINOS: A LITERATURE REVIEW OF FREE AND ACCESSIBLE RESEARCH ARTICLES ONLINE
Gianina Bruno
This paper reports on a systematic review of 12 pieces of educational research relating to the counseling theories, techniques and practices in the Philippines. Despite the few number of local literatures in the field of counseling, the researcher found few studies published in the Philippines that addresses the existence of various counseling theories and practices. The criteria in selecting the studies were that they: 1) must be authored by a Filipino, 2) must be conducted in the Philippines or among Filipino participants, 3) must be discovering theories, techniques or practices in counseling or that they must be employing theories, techniques or practices; and 4) must be accessible through free and open-access journals. The identified studies were divided into two categories which are: Filipino Values-Related Theories, Techniques and Practices and Filipino Trauma-Related Theories, Techniques and Practices.

This paper reviews the current definition of Filipino families, starting from a sociological perspective to the challenge to Filipino psychologists. More recent research of sociologists on families recognize the changing structure and composition of Filipino families brought about by various issues, urban and global migration, changing role of women, and other societal issues. Whereasmany psychologists have done research on Filipino families, few have looked into non-traditional families. Important psychological variables and processes such as family relationships, emotional connection, and communication need to be integrated in the definition ofFilipino families asidefrom family structure and composition. The challenges for the Filipino psychologists are to do more research on different types offamilies, and to take an active role in the reconstruction ofthe definition ofFilipino families that will be more inclusive ofdifferent types offamily and more responsive to the changing societal needs.

Family is the place where one can cherish his or her days of memories with parents, siblings and relatives. It was before decades and before the emergence of industrialization and westernization we came across joint family system and good values among the family members but now as the technology and new systems have stepped in there are diminishing of families. The impact of problems between spouses results in children as victims. The situation in which the children are brought up predicts their future, since they live in a problematic situation it finally ends with children following the same or practicing some Anti Social Habits. The Researcher has done an observation study to find out the major problems for separation of families and the effect of Counseling. This study was done from the Family Counseling Centre (FCC) Tirupattur, run by the Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board. The Researcher used Case Study Method and presented a case to bring out the benefits of counseling among the Families.

Eighty (80) Gen Z mothers, ages 18 to 24, with at least one child, completed a self-administered questionnaire using purposive and snowball sampling. The findings indicated that mothers have highly authoritative parenting styles and have very healthy overall well-being. The mother's completed education level showed weak inverse correlations with parent-child communication (r = -0.432, p = 0.000) and concept of authority (r = -0.283, p = 0.011). The mother's monthly income had a weak inverse relationship with her concept of authority (r = -0.269, p = 0.016).
